Mr. Birney is very clear and easy to understand. However, if you are math disabled choose another teacher.The tests are harder than the homework.He is clear and good at step by step explainations.

Awesome teacher - very clear - very helpful. The best math teacher I've had so far. Unfortunantly he's part time and only teaches weekends which makes the class difficult because it's 5 hours long.

this guy ROCKS! he gives hw, but rarely checks it! his tests are all out of hw questions! hes so cool and easy to talk to. hes not anal about coming to class. I got an A!

I took a mini semester not fast at all explain thing in a way that was very understandable for every one. Test are not hard but diffiact they test every thing. Also he trys hard to help everyone.

Best professor I've had in over 2 years of school. His method of explaining and covering material is clear. His tests are difficult but really let you know how much you know. He is VERY FAIR. If you don't like math, take him- you'll appreciate it like never before. THE BEST!!

Reasonable, Clear, Concise. Tests are extremely hard! During the semester you would be so stressed but you begin to gather the concept and your thoughts. You also begin to understand his style on teaching and tests.

Good teacher...knows his math...but wouldn't recommend his calc saturday class, very rough.

Birney is expectant and understanding. He will not reteach fundamentals, but will make more advanced concepts understandable: he expects you to know high school algebra coming into the class. I enjoyed the class.

He is very clear in explaining and teaching. He makes it easy to understand, but he does not offer a study guide review before tests-quizzes. So your prob. going to study too much or too little on a certain part of the chpt-hurts grade on test. i am barely making an A. I might get an A-final will determine it's a half term class-he is very nice tho

I got an A. You have to work for it, but he is so easy to understand... He is funny too, uses a lot of metaphores which brings mathematics to a new perspective. I'm taking him all the way to calc 3 (i am sure he will give me the skills to get there) I can be a Doctor now thanks to his great teaching style. Mr.B rocks.......

Mr birney is an awesome teacher. highly reccomended. he is very easy and very very helpful. he loves showing you shortcuts, and his main goal is to get you ready for the next level. i took it in a half semester class, it was alot of work, but worth it because he was very helpful. i would definitely reccomend him.

Very challenging teacher. I wouldn't reccomend him if you struggle with math, or are looking for an easy A. If you are moving on to higher math classes, I would STRONGLY reccomend taking him. He made me think alot and I learned a ton of stuff in his class. I feel very well prepared for Calculus and beyond after his class.

He is absolutely smart. He helps you bring your grade up by giving extra credit or bonus questions. He is very sweet, and he really cares about his students understandig the materials not just memorizing it.

Mr. Birney is an Angel. Don't take his half-semester classes with a full load- I struggled a lot and made my first B ever. My GPA dropped to a 3.9-ouch!!! I have never been good at math so it's ok b/c I did not even finish 9th grade. My mistake was in taking 17 credits...

I'm taking him for a summer session, and it's pretty good so far. Just take good notes, and do your homework! Even thought he doesn't check the homework till the day of the test, do it, bc he'll go over it in class and that will be a big help when you don't understand. The quizzes/test are alright, just study everything so you know how to do it.

He is a very good teacher. He stays after class to help any students who are having trouble. HOWEVER, his tests were very hard and the quizzes and tests had no multiple chioce. overall, if you can pay attention and do your work, he will help you out! Take him, he's great!

I think he is very cool teacher. Always answer the questions if you have any. Very funny. His tests weren't the easiest to me but you'll get it if you do your homework and practice. I would definetely recommended him!!!!

I took Mr, Birney like 3 times. He is a really excellent teacher. If I needed to take anymore math classes I would most def. take him. He is very helpful. He is willing to explain anything as many times as possible for the student to understand. Plus he very nice. And you can tell he really enjoys his hob.

Took him for 2 half semester classes and math is not my forte. He is a very good, reasonable teacher. Gives homework, which helps to LEARN the material and takes the time to go over it the next class. He reviews for the tests many times before its actually given to u. Show up to class everyday and put forth effort and u should do good!

Mr. Birney can teach! He makes math very interesting. Sometimes the class can seem intense, exspecially if you take a summer course. But if you do most of your homework and study a little then you can most definatly get an A or B. I took his college algabra class and got an A. The precal class was alittle tougher though.

Can seem intimidating at first but he's really not. Has a unique way of explaining things and a dorky sense of humor lol. He is strict but also gives opportunities to make a grade. Attendance isn't required but really necessary for math anyway. He might give you bonus if you attend perfectly ((hint)). Grades on a curve. Not easy but math isn't.

After a disappointing semester with Dr. Umoh I took Mr. Birney and expected another difficult time. I was pleasantly surprised. Mr. Birney explains things clearly, has a great personality. He drew a smiley face on the wall by mistake (thought he was writing on the board), it was lots of fun. I HATE math & highly recommend this teacher!

Mr. Birney taught me that math is not a painful as I had previously thought! He is very funny and made me want to go to math class. I looked forward to class with him. Attendance is not mandatory, he is pretty laid back. I highly reccommend him. He is also full of knowledge, math and many other subjects. I learned a lot about life in his class.

Mr. Birney was a great teacher. He helps those who help themselves. If you come to class on time & attempt to do work, you are fine. He broke everything down well. He also began to teach trig in the beginning of the semester a little bit at a time so when we reach to trig we were not totally lost. He is great and whith fair test and curves.

He is a great professor, willing to stay late, homework is mandetory. He cares more if you show up for class but doesnt care if you step out for any reason. He has taught so many things that you arent supposed to know to solve a problem more efficiently.

This man is perhaps the best professor I've had at GPC. By no means is his class easy, but he cares a lot about his students, and he's good at his job. The few times I had trouble understanding what he was saying, he was more than happy to elaborate. If you're planning to screw off, don't take this class. Else wise he's the best.

This has been one of my favorite classes at GPC.It has been challenging but all the work I put in has paid off,I have learned so much this semester from Professor Birney. Strongly recomended

you need to know college algebra concepts before coming into his class. he will not review. if you are good then take this man! he is extremely helpful with a great sense of humor. he really cares about his students and you don't see that anymore in teachers. just study hard and you should do fine in his class. i definately recommend this guy!

Mr. Birney is a great teacher. I will admit that this class was very stressfull, and his test were exteremely hard, but I learned lot in his class and feel that I am prepared calculus. An A is possible, but you will work for it! If you really want to learn and are prepared to work your butt off, take his class. If not I would not recomend it.

This was the hardest class I have ever taken. My head hurt most nights after this class. Test are ridiculously hard. Test are above and beyond the textbook. He does teach well, and I feel like I am ready for Calculus afterward.

I LOVE this teacher. I read the previous comments and still decided to "brave" him. A lot of work but its all 4 u & doesn't grade HW! Tests r intense but u feel ready 4 CALC. Best advice I can give..ASK QUESTIONS! Those that had the hardest time were quietest inclass - he will answer every1! Got "A" during summer w/ 2 other classes. Its Possible.

I was a transient student from UGA in the summer class. (Business Major) Even though I earned a B and Mr. Birney was very helpful, I have to say this was one of the hardest classes I've taken. Tests are insane and long. Study HARD and do ALL of your homework if you want a decent grade.

I took Mr.Birney high school as well as college and he is in no way an easy professor but he is a good teacher and will explain the info if you dont under stand he also does have a good sense of humor! i would still recommend his class!

Excellent teacher, he cares about the people that show interest on the class, helps a lot, answers ALL questions, and explains well. Being that said, this was a very DIFFICULT class. His tests are HARD but he motivates you A LOT and curves/offers extra credit. TAKE HIM!

I took him for PreCalculus and Calculus. If you never have to take another math class after Calculus I, then you might want an easier professor. But, if you want to be prepared for higher level math, he is awesome and one of the best teachers I have had in any subject. I had to put in at least an hour a day to get an A, but it was worth it.

Professor Birney is an excellent teacher. I took him for pre-cal over the summer and earned a B and I hadn't taken college level math in over ten years! His test are difficult but he curves and offers extra credit. Come to class and pay attention you will make it through.

Great Professor! Not easy, but fair. Grades on a scale. Show effort and study and you will pass. Be careful with the Saturday class, it very moves fast (about three sections per class on Sat) and you can fall behind easily.

Warning,strong math students only apply. He is a nice guy but there are better options. The class is disorganized,as a result his course is way more difficult than it should be. Lectures are confusing and sped through at a blink of an eye. He provides no study guides...test questions are random with obscure problems selected.u willself teach.

i study for the test, do home work and fail the test badly. I thought I really good at math until I met this guy. He is nice and explain well though.

Birney is really hard, compared to the other calc teachers. He is also better than the other calc teachers. Apply yourself and you can get any grade you want, show genuine effort. Oh, and he gives extra credit.

I have enjoyed math for the first time in a long time. Mr. Birney treats his students like adults and he has a great sense of humor. If you want to learn calculus take him.

A lot of homework, but do it to prepare 4 tests; tests are much harder than homework. He curves the tests and final grades, so focus less on grades and more on learning & pushing your limits (calc pun?). recommend if you have good/strong bg in math . He could be more organized or more clear/ methodological in his teaching though.

This class has alot of work but stick with it and it will all work out. Birney is more concerned with you learning the material than just receiving a passing grade. Great preparation for CalcII

to say that he is a life-savior is just like saying nothing... a lot of extra credits. I am not sure what I got, most likely A+ or A, but I've seen students that are very bad at math in his class pass as well as learning their math concepts.

Mr. Birney is very, very good at teaching you the concepts of calculus in a way that you really understand how it works and how everything relates. He is most interested in helping you understand, so even though tests are difficult, he gives extra credit if you show him you put in effort and do the homework. Do the homework! and you will pass.

He is awesome professor. It was fun to be with him. He was very clear about the grading scheme and criteria. He curves the grades, gives extra credit opportuinity, open book quizzes. I would take him again and reccomend him to other students as well. His tests are a bit though, however, you can survive them if you know the concept.

he was pretty good at teaching the subjects but went really fast like we would have already finished all the information for the second test before we even take the first test. the test are really hard though he does give curves on them. the homework isn't graded but if you don't do it your very likely to fail. there are no study guides. have fun
