The best teacher I have had...ever. He should be teaching freshman English at Vassar or Cornell! Yep, that awesome. We are so so so super lucky to have him here...I just wish he taught upper level classes too so I could have him as a teacher again next semester. I have never been so sad to be sick and miss class before!

This is his first year teaching at MCC. He is the best English teacher that I have had so far, and this is the third English class that I have taken. He just moved up here from the southern states. So his southern quality makes the class even better.

He's a tough grader when it comes to papers, but he makes the course VERY interesting. He's really funny and makes great comparisons between literature and real life. Take him.

He's a very good professor. A semi-tough grader but the class material is very clear and well discussed in class. He engages with his students and makes for a comfortable learning environment.

Blake's class is great. He tells funny stories, he references movies, and he tries to make literature matter. He's a rough grader on papers, but he'll help you if you want it.

Dr Blake is honestly one of the best professors i've ever had. He wants everyone to understand the material so he always stops and reiterates it and puts it into a real world cotext and that always helped and kept my attention. He stays on topic and takes his class seriously but hes always moving around and hes hilarious!

Let me put it this way- for the first few wks of class my head was spinning.This prof. is a live circit full of energy& wisdom. He is a tough grader and most certainly requires lots of reading. His topic for papers take alot of thought & time. I am glad I took his class & hope to take more.He truly is the best pro. I've ever had.

Dr. Blake is great. Very energetic. Do your reading and actively discuss the material in class and you'll do well. Papers are most of your grade but he'll gladly help you with them if you ask. May seem kinda high energy elite at first but VERY down to Earth and accessible.

Extremely rough grader. He is helpful but if you don't want to pay for a class and ruin your GPA then I wouldn't take his class.

He is an excellent Proffesor, quizes are easy as long as you read all those books for his class. Now, for grading papers, he is extremely hard, probably he thinks everyone is majoring in English, and that's not the reality. If you don't wanna ruin ur GPA, don't take it with'im. But if u wanna learn and you don't care about GPAs, then he is thebest!

It seems like it has been said in pretty much every review, Dr. Blake is an amazing professor that keeps you interested at all times, but is no-nonsense when it comes to grading. If you want an easy A and just another english class, dont take it. But if you want your mind opened and for yourself to grow as a person/writer/thinker, take this class!

Very cool teacher!! a little too philisophical for a eng105 class but his reading list is awesome!! NOT AN EASY GRADER ON ESSAYS AT ALL THOUGH! makes you work hard for your grade! 3 essays 4-6 pages each. first essay was a 74 went to him for help and the next two essays were a B and an A. very reasonable and helpful if he knows your trying hard!!!!

Don't know what to say because I don't have much to add really but Dr. Blake is the best teacher I've ever had. He has helped me understand literature better but has also made an impact on the way I view the world and myself. He's the real deal.

ADVCOMP-This class was really great. He chooses content for the class that he is genuinely interested in, which will immediately make you interested. He has A LOT of ideas, so if you do too, make him spit them out! A true rhetorician who likes to contain concepts in metaphors, I enjoyed participating and challenging ideas. He's there to help!

Dr. Blake is one of my favorite as he truely taught and engaged the class. With class discussions which occupy much of the class, it's really interesting to analyze a book or journal so in depth. He demands effort from his students to achieve a good grade. He's a TOUGH grader but gives you the resouces to ask Q's or use class materials to improve.

Love this teacher, very in depth, and although he goes off easily on tangents he keeps things relevant while keeping it relatable and interesting. he's a hard grader at first but if you LEARN from what he tells you to fix you will do just fine. Make sure you've got your materials or he will kick you out.

Great guy. Really loves what he does. Relates the reading in ways my past teachers have never done before. As long as you speak up and do the assigned work your grade will be much higher than the kid that doesn't talk at all. Highly recommended. Bring your materials to class or you will be kicked out.

Took 105 over the summer with him, honestly thought I was gonna drop it after the first week. However Blake kept me interested with his use of rhetorical questions to stimulate discussion amongst the class. Just talk occasionally and you'll be fine.

Solid teacher. Funny and relatable, manages to make the best out of an otherwise boring class. He is a hard grader however and you MUST do all the homework and keep all the papers you do if you want to get an A. Believe me, you're going to need to reuse quotes A LOT for your final paper. Would recommend, just be prepared to work and come to class.

Blake is the best professor you will ever have, everyone loves him and his classes, but a good grade is in no way easy to come by, you have to work for it.

I loved professor Blake. He's hilarious, very good at what he does, and is easy to come to with any questions you have. A good grade is something you definitely have to work for, but I am a better writer and better equipped to study the written word because of his class. 1010 do recommend if you're interested in Literature.

I took this course over the summer and at first I hated it, but going into the second week I started to love this class ! He is a GREAT teacher and responds to email so quickly, so he is good with getting back to students. If you plan on taking ENG 105 make sure you take Blake :)

Not very relational. Lectures are a little boring and most of the class hated all of the books he picked. He's willing to help you if you need it. Even though he's a good professor, if I had to take this class over again I would take it with a different professor.

Blake was an amazing professor. Yes, you have to be willing to read and do assignments, however, this is understandable for an English class. He was helpful with questions and made me WANT to go to class. Take him and you won't regret it!

I've had Blake for 2 classes. He's great. Funny, fair, helpful. He assigns a lot of readings and you have to write a bunch of papers. If you do the work, class is great. He doesn't take late work at all though.

What a great teacher. His class made me want to be an English Professor. I like to read but for those who don't there's lots of reading and writing. He's really helpful if you email him and he he will meet with you in his office. He has a WHOLE lot of interesting things to say and can make you look at the world differently. Take Blake.

Hilarious. His material is very relevant to the real world and truly makes you feel comfortable in class. He is down to earth and also very helpful whenever you ask a question. He does assign a good amount of writing, but they are all useful for the final project at the end of the semester. Would definitely recommend Doctor Blake to any friends.

The best professor I have ever had! Keeps the entire class engaged and talking. He's hilariously cynical and you'll see why. I would defiantly take his class again. Don't miss class though, but if you're a good student and have to miss a class he's not harsh on you. The class is easy if you follow along, he basically gives you your final paper.

Professor Blake an amazing professor. An A is not easy to come by unless you work for it. He is very funny, makes class enjoyable and is always there if you ever need help. My writing definitely improved after taking his class. If you're looking to further your writing skills I definitely recommend Blake!

I took two classes with Prof Blake and loved both of them. Very interesting lectures that made me think and very nice teacher too. Be prepared for a decent amount of reading and a paper every week or every other week. The papers were interesting since he made you put the book to any world event, TV show, movie, etc. Best teacher I've had in school.

Cons He is a tough grader, can be moody, not flexible with late work, poor grades, no extra credit. Doesn't give good feedback and is very short when you ask for advice.

Blake is amazing (although he was initially intimidating). As long as you do the work correctly and show him that you are a critical thinker who is able to process complex societal concepts, you should do well in his class. He likes to joke around with students so you'll enjoy his lectures, too. Also, he's attractive and wears nice sweaters.

I am happy I had the opportunity to learn from Professor Blake. Although he is a tough grader, if you show up, do the work, and listen to his feedback, you will do well. Personally, I find him intimidating, but I chose to take my next English class with him because I learned so much. He knows what he's talking about, and is funny as well.

Fantastic professor! I took two courses w/ him. If you're not a critical thinker before his class, you will be after. He's laid back and the classes are generally discussions based on the literature being read at the current time. He can be a tough grader for some, but if you follow his instructions on how to write the essays, you should do fine.

the BEST professor I've ever had, I really enjoyed going to his class. His class made me a better writer and I took a lot from it. READ the material he gives you, do the assignments, show up, participate & engage in discussions. If you're having trouble, just go to him for help because it will only benefit you. My course so faR! I never expected to enjoy an English lit class ever but he really gets the students to think outside the box & communicate with the rest of the class discussions. Not to mention he is really funny which motivates the students to get more involved in lectures, class discussions & pay attention. Smart, understanding & inspiring.

Great professor! He had a lot of good illustrations to get his point across effectively! He was very funny and took time out of class to answer any questions you may have. However, he handed out a good amount of homework and was a fair grader. I would recommend this professor and definitely take the class again!

When he gives homework, he explains to you what he expects with several examples. I think attendance is mandatory, especially for turning in assignments. He will work with you to pass!

Professor Blake's like no other. I took his creative writing class and the way he connected with everyone in the class through the story and through how we as individuals related to the story was remarkable. From taking his class I feel my imagination really bloomed and I learned more about self-knowledge which is the highest lesson one can bestow.

Prof. Blake was an incredible teacher. He was always so nice and made class more enjoyable. You can tell he likes what he does because he gets into what he is talking about and it makes it easier to pay attention. There is a lot of reading and a bunch of 2 page papers on quotes and sometimes pop quizzes (usually easy). Overall great teacher 10/10.

I took a class with him last semester and I honestly always enjoyed going to his classes. His lectures are always fascinating and meant to make you actually think about the world around you. His expectations for assignments are always very clear and he really cares about helping students. My only complaint is that the class is way too easy.

He's an amazing person, very intelligent and thoroughly cares about his students. He doesn't take crap from anyone, so make sure you know what you're talking about and doing the assigned homework. I walked into the class thinking I was going to hate it, and not like the guy very much. However, he was my favorite professor that semester. He always writes the homework on the board for the week so it is very easy to plan. He also had a solid choice in books assigned for the semester. He also has such a cool personality.

By far the greatest English/writing course I have taken (including classes outside of MCC.) Professor Blake explores topics with the classroom in an interactive setting that really get you thinking. He's incredibly funny and uses creative analogies to drive home the point-or to get you seeing things from different angles. I left his class "woke."

If you are the type of student who cares, then you will do well with him. Thoughtful and engaging discussions, with interesting paper topics.

Philosophical, thought-provoking topics. Challenging, engaging assignments and class discussions. Expects you to put in the work, but fairly easy because the class was structured very well and the topics were so interesting. He sets the class up to help you succeed if you do your best. Two years later, still my favorite class.

This class was fun, many of the other reviews for him are accurate. As you will learn in the class, as most are dying to know from the start, he is from the South, the specific state is up to you to find out. This is only important because his humor is a bit different so sometimes it may seem like he is making fun of you. Great class.

He is awesome! Blake really likes to turn lectures over to group discussion and chimes in sometimes. He has a sense of humor and makes it easy to understand the novels written. He excepts simple few page papers written each week or every few days based on the novels, but grades them lightly. Super easy class and professor Blake is very interesting!

If i'm being completely honest I hate writing! I initially took his class because I needed it and enrolled late ( lmao ) . However the energy he brought to class with him everyday made me want to care about what I was turning in. A great professor and a chill dude. 10/10 for both ENG101 and 105.

Amazing! I was not looking forward to this class initially & felt intimated during the first class, but he is an incredible Prof. Unbiased, philosophical, treats all students with respect. You get so much more out of this class than just learning how to write a good paper. 2 page assignment due every week & participation is a must.

Professor Blake is freaking hilarious, I hate English and he made me literally enjoy coming to class. If youre someone who likes to participate in class and enjoys debates then you will enjoy this class! He gives more HW than most English 101 teachers but he allows rewrites to be turned in a week later.

Professor Blake will assign homework, stay on top of reading and it will be easy. Show up to class you are graded on class participation whether you are involved in class discussions or not. He is funny and laid back. I don't recommend taking the earliest class, he talks a lot so sometimes it was difficult to stay awake.

I'm currently taking Prof. Blake's online Intro to Ethics course as a humanities requirement. At first, I wasn't sure about the class, as I wasn't super interested in the course material. However, after a few weeks, I got pretty into it, and Prof. Blake does good lecture videos summarizing the material. I've learned a lot and he's super nice.

I took PHL 103 as an online class and weekly we had to do a reading, 1 discussion and 2 replies in blackboard, and a 2 page paper. The deadlines and assignment expectations were clear. The assignments were simple and easy to complete. The professor was very accessible and helpful, even when missing deadlines.

One of the best ones! 1 post, 2 responses, 2 page paper - all you need to get an A. Gives you a chance to rewrite a paper.

Easily my favorite thus far. Professor Blake is laid-back and friendly, but he (in my experience) clearly knows how to run his class and always has feedback ready. He even contacted me privately after the semester to recommend me for another course and take my final essay as a sample. You're expected to show effort, but the work is more than fair.

I took Professor Blake's Philosophy 105 technology and ethics class. An amazing experience and i plan on taking more classes with him next semester. He typically assigns a reading, either by printing out essays for you or assigning you a reasonably priced novel ($10-$30). Participation and attendance is vital, semi tough grader on papers, no tests.

While there was a lot of writing involved it was mostly a two-page paper each week about the reading. He provides all reading materials, there is little technology involved, and he prefers assignments in physical form. He enjoys his job and clearly goes over each topic to make sure you actually understand the reading. Overall just amazing.

Dr. Blake has a knack for making a heavy subject both understandable and enjoyable. Mostly a discussion based class, with Dr. Blake expanding on ideas from both the students and the readings. Consistent weekly 2 page papers, but they're graded on ideas more than writing finesse, so they go quickly. Incredibly smart and fun. Highly recommend

You will write a paper every week just about, they are not hard but require reading a lot of material. That is the only homework though, if you like writing essays about readings that can be difficult to read at times, this is the class for you. There are pop quizzes given at his discretion as well, they are simple, as long as you pay attention.

His course is well organized despite being online. You get to know what you have to do right away. 2-page essays (precis) on readings he provides every week and that's it. Very easy to understand and he is not a tough grader.

The course is extremely straightforward, each week you are assigned a reading to make a two-page paper on. Then, you read a class-assigned book and write a couple of quote analyses throughout the story. There's a final paper as well but it is super easy. Prof Blake's lectures are very engaging, entertaining, and funny. He is also very respectful!

Prof. Blake's PHL103 class is well-organized and straightforward, with weekly readings and short essays. While paper-heavy, the assignments are manageable. Unstuck AI has been helpful for study prep. An easy A if you stay on top of the work.

His class is just weekly papers and discussion posts. He is very passionate and doesn't just grade papers he asks thought provoking questions and brings up unique and thoughtful points. Very caring easy to access and willing to work with you.
