So awesome, funny and really interesting. HOT
Super laid back and easy going. He tends to drone off during lectures but it's out of interest. He's also kind of awkward, but it's funny awkward. Easy course. Attendance isn't absolutely mandatory but it's worthwhile going to, class discussions can be pretty funny. Worth taking overall. Great prof.
Awesome Prof. Highly recommended, just take his class- you won't be disappointed.
Awesome Prof. Don't pass the chance to take a PHL course with him- you won't be disappointed!
Awesome Prof.- very passionate about subject matter and it shows! If you get a class with him or have the chance to- simply take it, you won't regret it!
Great professor! Take any of his classes if you can. The content of this course is kind of difficult, but he breaks down the important arguments well. Gives exam questions before the exams and is a fair marker on the essay. Overall, one of the best professors I've had.
Amazing Professor. I had him at Ryerson for Philosophy of Love & Sex. Even though classes ended late on Thursday nights, I still really enjoyed going and participating. The material does get a little tricky at times, but he is very good if you ask for extra help. One of my favourite classes & professors in 4 years at Ryerson.
Great professor!, makes the class so much fun and he's very helpful and makes this class an ease to understand
Professor Thomas made things more interesting, the course was pretty dry. He was a fair marker, but for participation marks make sure he knows your name and more importantly your face in order to get the highest mark. Participation is 10% of your mark.
Really enjoyable class. Explains material well--some of the perspectives and content discussed will remain with me for a long time. For group presentationsassignments, there is no marking rubric, so it's difficult to know exactly what he expects and there isn't any feedback. However, it's still easy to do well in class.
Great prof, great marker, however for those who do not like to study long... go to lectures and get involved or listen good if you can and you will pop out with a B no problem. Group project was nice. textbook not needed
Brad combined humorous dialogue while teaching which was refreshing.
This was probably one of the best classes I have taken in my four years at ryerson. Brad is a perfect example of how a university professor should be. Brad is engaging, fun and challenges you to think. Yet, he is very smart and knowledgeable. If i could, I would instantly enroll in another class that has Brad as a professor
Bradley Richards is an absolutely terrific professor. His teaching style is very effective & casual. He is able to break down even the most difficult concepts effectively and clearly to students. His lectures are interactive & really engaging. I came to each class excited and ready to learn. This class really changes your perspective on the world!
I usually hate liberal studies classes, but Dr. Richards philosophy class was highly interesting. His classes were never boring and very engaging. His lecture approach is different from other professors as it is more of a conversation rather than him teaching. I would highly recommend this class to anyone in need of an upper liberal.
Great Prof, very fun and engaging course. Would definitely take another class with him!
Class was pretty good, interesting topics and discussions, essay was only 750 words, exam questions were given prior to exam, and presentation was marked pretty easy, overall great class, and funny guy. Would take another class with him.
Actually engages in discussion that expands your own philosophical development. Tries to challenging your thinking and reasoning which can be confusing. Respects others opinions and is open to understand other people's reasoning.
Richards is a very passionate teacher who really makes the class fun. Very helpful and approachable. There are no rubrics which made it difficult to understand what he expected, but when asked he would clarify again and again. Would definitely take another course with him if possible. 1 Essay, 1Group Presentation, 1Final. 3textbooks.
Overall A great class. I would recommend it.
I thought Professor Richards created a fun, teachable, and interesting learning experience. He is laid-back, has a good sense of humor, and makes Philosophy (a very tough subject at times) fun. He encourages participation which I think is very important and does not judge opinions. Genuine good guy, I recommend any who are interested in Philosophy.
Brad was such a cool guy!! definitely enjoyed his classes!
Super nice guy! Take his class!
Awesome lectures, gets the class involved and makes it easier to learn!!
Dr. Richards is a nice prof, that I can say. He is indeed chill and laid back. However, he often takes this laxness way too far, to the point that I don't feel he comes to his own classes prepared. He frequently reads off his slides, talks in a monotone and quiet voice, and his D2L site is very disorganized. He also gets distracted easily in class.
The most boring class and professor ever. Very monotone and quiet. Also is too relaxed and reads off the powerpoint. Just reads his slides and gets notes from it and you'll pass. Also expects participation and group projects. Honestly, this class is a waste of time with this professor.
Great guy, makes the content interesting, relaxed environment.
Professor's an absolute mess. Too chill, spends 2 hours on lecture that can be done in half an hour. Broken participation system, tests are easy but you still gotta go to class to earn a big chunk of your marks. Unprepared - first exam, man brought insufficient copies of the test for everyone. Still easy marks, if youre willing to be bored.
He's a really fair grader!
Very organised and approachable Always made sure that the class understood the lecture. Was available to answer questions after the class too. I took the class for self learning it was not a degree requirement. I definitely will take another class too
Very interest material taught in class. Very thorough and the prof seemed pretty knowable about all concepts covered in class.
Boring class, NOT ORGANIZED, WOULD NOT TAKE THIS AGAIN. DO Yourself a favor and avoid
Good guy, easy marker tries his best to connect course themes to things in the real world.
Don't even take him, not a good lecture giver and pointless class when taught by him. Worst professor in my university career. Would not recommend.
Bradley is a super cool guy and the philosophy course that he taught was super laid back and it was easy to get good marks in that class. He's a funny guy and he's HOT
Great guy, very funny and makes you understand the material. Would definitely take another class with him!
He's an intelligent person and can be funny but he's also very monotone and seems unprepared/uninterested sometimes. The class is boring if students don't participate especially since his calm voice is perfect to fall asleep to . The course itself was interesting and he made it interesting with the debates. His exam review was very helpful as well
really vague, not helpful, barely any feedback, does not give any 80's. nothing makes sense in the way he grades or teaches.
He's a super chill professor and extremely straight forward with assignments. When it came to the content of the course he knew what he was talking about and by the end of the semester he wasn't even using the slides. It's was less of a lecture and more of a conversation, making sure we all understood. It's been my favourite elective to date.
no feedback, messy lecture notes and slides. all over the place. disorganized. uploads grades VERY SLOWLY. talks about random subjects, not sure what the point of course was?
Dr. Richards really knows his stuff about philosophy and goes over the assigned readings during class which is very helpful. It's important to take notes as you might have to write journals based on the classes. He gives you many opportunities to do well. One good tip is to make sure to come to the first class! Do not skip his classes.
Solid class. Not the most exciting lecturer.
Very good course if you have always been interested in philosophy but need help knowing how to situate yourself before embarking on studying that field; and also great for general knowledge. Not overly demanding course, but it is important to be engaged. Free thinking/speaking is accepted there.
Took this class as an easy upper liberal and enjoyed it a lot! He likes to discuss material in depth as well as giving good examples! Pay attention in class and make sure to write some notes in order to finish journals! Amazing teacher with a chill personality!
teaches very interesting concepts and encourages discussion. this course is what you make of it. if you're interested in philosophy, this is a good place to explore that thinking. if you're taking the course because you need a credit, it's a pretty straightforward course and there is only 1 main essay, 4 short "journals", 1 exam
Professor Richards is laid back and very kind. This course is simple as long as you come to class and participate. The only downside is that he doesn't allow you to see your midterms, but he does take up the harder questions in his exam review sessions.
Really nice Professor! He is very understanding, well informed on the material and willing to go over content during office hours.
Dr. Richards is a good teacher however this course is not for everyone. This course is based around concepts and if you don't understand the concepts then the midterm and final will be hard. The textbook does not help and just makes things harder.
PHL214 itself was kinda hard but this prof tried his hardest to explain concepts to us. He is a little laid back and expects dialogue in class (understandable). One thing I missed out on was asking for help, clarify concepts for critical thinking because sometimes you can get them reversed. Wish he would let us see where we went wrong on tests.
Textbooks were expensive and BARELY used, Lectures were droning and disorganized, would get off topic and struggled to explain key concepts. Easy Marker? but it takes forever to get grades back. Would not take again He's kinda hot tho in that like, Draco Malfoys dad kinda way.
He is very unorganized in every way. Lectures go on off track a lot, seems very uninterested being there, and never responds to emails. Textbooks are expensive and hard to read through. Only 5 assignments during whole semester, but each are challenging. Course material on its own is interesting and otherwise good, just not with this prof.
Bradley is a laid back kinda guy. He seems like the type that never stresses about anything in life, however I believe that he's able to get the most important concepts of the course into your brain. The course is very interesting and your participation is graded. He will spoon-feed you to succeed in his course with hints about the essay and final
This guy is so extremely un organized. He really does nothing and doesn't say much in class either... the amount of anxiety his disorganization gives me.
One of the best profs I've had!! Very nice and respectful, has clear grading criteria and is an easy marker. Also gives great feedback!!
awesome class, awesome prof. he talks a bit slow and doesnt really post slides up online so its good to have a friend in class. hes straightforward with assignments and is an easy marker, and the topics he mentions in class are really interesting.
His lectures are sometimes very difficult to understand only because the material itself is dense but he tries to answer all questions as simply as possible. He grades clearly and easily and I would definitely recommend him.
Be prepared to be in a class with mainly engineers. Most of the work is within groups yet the only grades you get are based on midterm and final. Really wish we had some other assignments for marks. Classes were boring and painful to get through. Not what I would consider an easy elective. Be prepared.
Good prof. Hard marker, as in every other philosophy class. He is very intelligent as he knows what he is talking about and makes sure he simplifies hard concepts as much as possible. Not a class you should go into expecting an easy A. Must work for it. Takes long to return grades.
Really funny prof, course content itself is boring but lectures are bearable. Marking is tough and the course is NOT an easy A, you must put in the work and clearly understand the concepts. The philosophy department does not easily grant A's and the marking is quite arbitrary, but if you work hard enough you can attain an 80.
started this course wanting to minor in philosophy. a few weeks later, i hate philosophy and never want to read about it again. he talks in such a monotone voice and has vague descriptions about EVERYTHING. no criteria to follow, bad ppts, still uses the syllabus dates from last semester, and overall really confusing. would not take again. :(
The class is confusing to understand as he just goes on and on about the pictures. He doesn't post the powerpoint online, and shows no interest in teaching the class. he still has the dates from 2017 on the assignments and doesn't post anything properly. you have to be checking announcements. I would drop this class if I had the chance but its late
Please dont take this course. The professor rarely gives back grades and when he does give them back, he offers no feedback or steps for improvement. The professor is unorganized and doesnt respond to emails. The material is hard to understand, textbooks are expensive, and course content doesnt relate to course description.
Professor Richards is an easy marker. He wants everyone to do their best and seems interested in what he's teaching but he also is very disorganized. It took him the entire semester to give us some of our marks back and the way that the course is organized seems confused. The content is interesting but the management of it could be better.
Easy marker. Truly wants everyone to do well & succeed. His lectures are very informative - he is really knowledgeable about the topics. With that being said, I found it impossible to pay attentions to his lectures because he is very monotone and quite (very nice to look at though). Exam is really easy. Do all the assignments & you'll do fine.
Cons - Lectures can be difficult to hear at times. He is very monotone making it easy to zone out. The readings are horrible & take away joy (but that's just academic philosophy readings for ya) Pros - easy marker, wants you to succeed and does what he can to help, very knowledgeable, hot prof, good at explaining/ simplifying difficult concepts
his voice is so monotoned and annoying do not take his class. His lectures take forever , you will not enjoy this class with him
As long as you show up, participate and/or take some notes you'll do just fine. He defiantly knows his stuff, and if you can get past his monotoned voice his lectures are enjoyable. If you like philosophy I feel like he' a great teacher, but if youre just in it for an easy credit, it might make his class harder to sit through. He is late sometimes.
An unorganized professor, with little care into his powerpoints and handouts. Our syllabus was posted on the announcement board, instead of an actual Word document, with readings unspecified or uncited properly so students could find them (unless they were his own). His powerpoint slides make no sense, and he posts questions in them with no answer.
Horrible professor. Unable to teach. Gives back assignments super late. The lecture is off tangents. Beware of his corrupted quizzes which make no sense what-so-ever. Not related to lecture content that much. Get ready to read a lot. He does not respond to his emails back as well. I don't like phl anymore because of how he teaches, so pointless.
Very chill prof. If you're thinking of taking PHL365 and you would consider yourself a critical thinker, it's definitely a bird course. A bit boring at times but if you understand the readings you're set.
The D2L was a mess, all the content made no sense, and on top of that he didnt give much assistance (took a VERY long time to reply to emails) He was pretty lenient on extensions and was definitely a fair marker so he gets points for that. If youre able to work by yourself id recommend this class.
I found the class to be disorganized & attending zoom meetings often just made me more confused than I already was. Lots of readings (you can find all required texts online for free) however, if you just skim through it you can probably get the gist of the content. You can definitely do the bare minimum & still get an A.
I had obligations outside of school that really clashed with some of the class deadlines. Brad was really understanding and gave me an extension on a paper ! Really nice guy.
Course was largely asynchronous; he provides all the readings which you do in your own time for the 3 quizzes, 10 discussion posts, 1 essay and the final exam. Found him to be chill, easy going and someone who clearly does not know what stress is however, he is a tough marker. Would recommend him for all critical thinkers.
With 10 discussion posts, 3 quizzes, 1 essay, and 1 final, it isn't hard to do well in this class. Essay was marked fairly but hard and I wouldn't recommend this class if heavy reading isn't your strong suit. Lectures can be skipped though. All content is in the readings. My advice: drop this class if it's not for you after the first two weeks.
Not very engaged in the content matter and talked in a monotone the entire semester. The grading rationale was questionable. Few assignments, but getting back grades on a reasonable timeline was a struggle (d2l grades for three assignments were not given back until 1-2 weeks after the semester ended (about 50% of your grade).
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A STRONG PHILOSOPHY BACKGROUND. THIS COURSE SHOULDNT BE TAKEN AS AN ELECTIVE. HE SHOULD HE TEACHING SOLELY TO PHILOSOPHY STUDENTS. HIS TA MARKS RIDICULOUSLY HARD AS WELL!
This prof gave very little context or explanation throughout the whole semester. He gives 1-4 readings a week, makes a low-effort "lecture" (essentially just re-stating what is in the reading by reading off his slides with no new info) and that's about it. I do not suggest this class or professor if you have not previously taken philosophy courses
Excellent professor. Always available for consultation. Easy course. Very knowledgeable. Lots of interesting reading.
Great professor. Knowledgeable. The course itself is interesting but Dr Richards makes it rven ore interesting. He always provides useful help if you assist to his online classes and ask.
Dr. Richards is knowledgeable and capable of facilitating some really interesting discussions. HOWEVER Expectations were unclear and feedback was non-existent. The material was interesting, but it felt like the course was getting in the way of learning it. I could see him being great for grad student classes, but don't take him in undergrad
He definitely cares about what he's teaching and wants engaging conversations, which I loved. His instructions for assignments were sometimes confusing, but he's also not very strict, so it balances out. He wants students to know how to develop a philosophical argument, and so he has a strong anti-AI stance (for obvious reasons).
The class was really fascinating but you could tell this was the 1st time this class was offered. Prof. Richards was extremely knowledgable in everything AI, so it was great having him give a breadth in scope of information regarding historical and modern AI. There needs some refinement in the syllabus but would take a course with him again.
I love this prof! he's amazing and funny, i loved going to the lectures. 2 quizzes, an essay, and exam, discussion posts and participation. So you can definitely pull yourself up if you mess up. He quizzes and exams were honestly so easy, you don't have to study that much for it. one downside, is he doesn't follow the syblus dates multiple times.
Overall this class was good. Lectures were detailed and there was lots of discussion in class about the subject. It's not too difficult to pass this class since exam and quiz are quite easy if you do the readings and remember them. However, I feel the grades awarded for participating were extremely low compared to the actual participation I did.
DO NOT fall for the 5.0 ratings on this professor because I did. I have previous experience with philosophy courses and his marking was not it. The textbook was impossible to find online. The format of the quizzes and exam were not really explained during class but they are doable (must be done with a lockdown browser).
Doesn't respond to emails. He said himself that he doesn't check it. Does not mark reasonably. He doesn't take attendance and does not make an effort to know who anyone is. Gave me a super low grade for participation and I engaged in a lot of discussions. You must write 4 D2L posts per week. The course seems fine until he starts giving final marks.
The professor is excellent. The students are not. Instead of cheating, study.
