such a good chem 103 prof! he writes all of the notes on the blackboard, so you can guarantee you have everything copied the exact way he wants it copied. goes at a fast pace but never overwhelming, and he has an adorable swiss accent (not hard to understand, just a little one)

He teaches the basics decently. However when it gets to anything beyond the basics he doesnt teach it yet expects you to know it for the exam. It isnt stuff that even makes the homework. Hence there is no way to prepare for his exams. He sends emails telling us to not complain about the exam when he purposely makes it 10X harder than practice exams

People complain that his tests are impossible, but they neglect to mention his amazing curve. Over 65% of the class gets a B or higher. He makes the tests really hard so that it clearly separates the students who know the material best from those who only know the basics. You can know only the basics and still get a great grade though!

His lectures are boring. Very hard to pay attention. He talks to quiet, slow and mumbles. Only puts basics on board, doesn't explain anything else. Who cares if he is funny, I'm there to learn, not laugh. Yes his curve is great, but the tests are not fair either way. Would not recommend him if you want to actually learn Chemistry well.

Brunold was a good professor, but had pretty tough exams, which were even harder due to the time constraint. If you averaged a 70% on the exams and did equally well on the quizzes (which were easier than the exams) in your discussion class and did okay on your labs you should be walking out with an AB or an A. The curve is generous.

Professor Brunold is a very impressive person in many aspects, teaching included. He teaches at his own pace, making sure to cover everything and answer all questions. He is incredibly responsive and very encouraging. He even shifted our entire class average up because he wanted more people to get an A or AB. Overall, try hard and it will pay off.

Prof. Burned was a fantastic teacher for CHEM 103 (I wish I could have him for CHEM 104). He definitely knows what he is talking about, he will give you an extension if necessary, and he seems to genuinely care about your success in the course and understanding the material. Overall my favorite teacher from the semester.

Professor Brunold was such a nice professor and really tried to give you the best chance at succeeding in his class. he would stay late after class for questions and offered study sessions before exams (though the exams were difficult). Eager to teach, and understanding. The problem with this course is that like any other course in chem at UW-Madison, it is specified for students who are doing inorganic/mat inside this department. Otherwise, this course is less than useless. This, along with many TA duties inside chem for grad students, makes life miserable and you might get sick.

Brunold was a great lecturer and cares about his students. However, for being a 100-level course, even being 4 credits, the course was very work-heavy. I was not a fan of the grading style, due to the way the course was curved it was hard to tell where you were at for a grade. I was very anxious thinking I had around a C/D and ended with a B.

Brunold was a good lecturer and cares about his students. Though for being a 100-level course, even being 4 credits, it was very work-heavy. I didn't enjoy the grading style as well, as it made me anxious with all exams graded based on your peer's scores. Due to the curve and Canvas, I thought I was going to end with a C or D, but got a B.
