the worst teacher at gsu, hard and mean.
He is very hard! If dont take him if you can avoid it. He told us that last semester he only gave one A, and that was for a 89.
He was agood teacher and knows what he's talking about. There were only two test, a midterm and a final. The midterm was really easy, if you jus went to class you could pass it. But the final required a little studying and was a bit more difficult. Overall the class was pretty easy.
I loved this teacher and this class. There is a lot of busy work and he grades like we are grad students (his words not mine) but I enjoyed going to class everyday. He's very helpful and you can go to his office for help whenever. I thought the midterm was harder than the final... but that's because he uses a lot of the same questions.
I actually had Dr. Buckhoff for both Managerial Accounting & Macrofraud Examination. One of my favorite professors at GSU. I highly recommend him. There was nothing particularly hard about either class, granted I had a high interest in the subject matter. Had him in 2005-2006.
He was a visiting professor this semester at BYU in Provo, UT. He's great. He was always willing to help any students out when we had questions or we were stuck spinning our wheels. He's a little intense the first day of class, but as the semester goes on you like him more and more.
One of the my favorite professors at Georgia Southern! Extremely professional and expects the same from his students. Hard class but I learned a lot.
If you care about your GPA, dont take him.. He does not give a lot of A's. But if you just want to learn a lot about forensics... He's your guy! Good teacher, subjective grading methods.
A really likeable guy, but not as a teacher. Goes over the bare minimum of topics in class, and expects you to figure out the hardly reflective homework/tests. The textbook he uses is just as jumbled. I wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you are already very good in the subject matter, and especially if you struggle in math like I do.
I agree w the person below my comment. I made an A in the first accounting and I may not even get a C in this class. He is the absolute worse teacher and expects you to know everything he knows. He would be good for forensic accounting but NOT for managerial. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Dr. Buckhoff was abrasive in the beginning, but once you get used to his style, it's not that bad. Read the book. He gives bonus questions, but likes to make them tricky. Professional and respects/enjoys students that put in the effort
I have really enjoyed his class so far and I will hopefully end with an A. I don't know why there are so many poor reviews because he is one of my favorite professors.
He's an admirable person but a hard professor. Gives quizzes one time a week and if you miss class it's hard to know what will be on the quiz. Gives nothing you dont deserve but takes away nothing that you do.
Loves what he does, as he is a CFE and has his own forensic accounting consulting firm. Class is basically him working through examples and he explains as he goes. Fight the urge to text. Miss a step or two in a problem and you'll be lost. He also gives out TONS of extra credit. I bombed his first two tests and I'm still at a high B.
I would not take him if you don't have to. Simple class but tough material and he expects you to know it especially on test. He does not curve grades but offers extra credit. Open note quizes, homework with answers but again test are hard final is even harder. I made a 79.6 and he would not round me up. Would never take him again.
Probably the WORST professor I've had @ GSU. I'm an A student and made an A in ACCT2101 but I made a C in this class. Wastes so much time talking about his personal lifeReligion that you learn little to nothing in class. Gives quizzes every week which have extra credit but that won't save you in the end. Treats students like they are worthless.
If you're planning to be a forensic accountant, take him as much as possible. It won't be easy, but you will learn so much. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will fail if you don't go.
Dr. Buckhoff is one of my favorite professors. His class isn't easy and you definitely have to work for the grade. He doesn't give grades; you receive what you actually earn. He gives a lot of real life examples that you can apply to the material to aid in understanding. He is very passionate about fraud, and pushes you to be the best you can be.
He's is a good lecturer and is very passionate about his subject. His lectures only teach you the basics of how the problems work and it is up to you to learn on your own how to solve the complex problems on his exams. He loves making trick questions which are worded very carefully to trip you up. Overall he's a gatekeeper professor.
You can tell he loves what he does as a forensic accountant, but this class is just awful. The quizzes were open book but the tests were bad. He can get off track and talk about his personal life instead of lecture so class can be pointless . You will have to work very hard in this class. I made an A in financial and barely passed his class.
Lectures are very dry but also very clear. I never had any problems following along. Theres an open book quiz over every chapter that will really help your grade. There is online homework thats kind of a pain, but not the end of the world and also helps your grade.
I basically had to teach myself accounting using the text book and videos on mcgraw connect. The prof is unresponsive to questions and doesn't know how to use the technology. Beware of incorrect due dates, plan for long and difficult homework, and impossible tests. My dad has been a CPA for 25 years and was stunned by the difficulty level.
Very hard teacher. Thinks that just because he understands acct, that everybody else should too. Spends most of class talking about his other job and random stuff. When he works problems he doesn't make sure everybody understands, just writes down the answers at a fast pace. Tests are impossible with tricky questions. No curve, no formula sheet.
Save your semester by taking another professor. His exams are very very hard. 25 multiple choice so if you miss 3 you are already down to a B for that exam. Please save your semester because I didn't.
Buckhoff is a nice guy, but a tough grader and professor overall. The tests are tough and he definitely makes you work for your grade. He is very proud of what he does and all of his (and his children's) achievement, so unless you are interested in being a Certified Fraud Examiner, take someone else if you can.
Spends class just talking about his own achievements. My father is a CPA, studied with him before tests, still failed every test. Buckhoff isn't there to help you, he's there to test you. Don't take him
He grades you as a forensic expert who is presenting a case in front of a court room. He's unrealistic in his expectations and also forces you to use proctoru even if you are uncomfortable with the invasion of privacy by a company you are not familiar with. One of the worst classes I've taken and most unreasonable professor.
Took him over the summer and had 3-4 page papers due almost everyday. He shouldn't be in education, he doesn't care about helping students and is egotistical. He didn't like that the class got an A avg on the midterm so for the final we had to pay for proctoru, the final had info that was not covered and tricky questions and I even read and studied
DO NOT TAKE!!! I can not stress this enough. I wish I had listened when classmates warned me about him. He does not give out 100's on homework (max of 95), and the homework is just reading a chapter and answering discussion questions. You learn everything from the homework because he is not a teacher. He can't teach. He can just brag about himself.
Fraud fraud fraud. That is all he is going to talk about. Dont take unless interested in fraud.
I think that Dr. Buckhoff is a great professor! So long as you follow along in class, do the homework, and take time to see him when you are confused, you should be able to pass. Does problems at a brisk pace but if you ask him a question he will stop and explain it to you until it is more clear. Not a cake walk but you can't expect classes to be.
Dr. Buckhoff's class is not easy. You have to actually take the time to read the chapter and do the course work. However, Dr. Buckhoff is a really great professor. Lectures are interesting and he is always willing to help you during office hours. He even helped me get a job lined up for me after I graduated! Overall, hes tough, but kind and fair.
Dr. Buckoff really cares about Accounting. He says every day that he loves accounting. Teaching style, however is not great. Although he knows so much about accounting, I've found it easier to learn from Connect. Make sure to really utilize excel in his class and it will help you tremendously.
I enjoyed class with Professor Buckhoff. He talks a lot but he always has an interesting story to tell. Class is easy but a lot of work on connect. Attendance is mandatory.
DO NOT TAKE BUCKHOFF. My biggest mistake of a class in all my years at GSU. He is by far the rudest most self-centered person I have ever met. His class is close to impossible and the first day he told us majority of us would not pass his class. He means it. He needs to be in a courtroom with his love of fraud and away from students. Save yourself.
The class was overall easy, I made an A. However Buckhoff doesn't really teach, he talks alot about himself and his love for Accounting throughout every lecture. I wouldn't advise picking him for a professor unless you're interested in him story telling everyday. You don't really learn that much in this class, everything is online, including tests.
I am not one to dislike professors easy. I am a very hard working student who cares about their grades, but Professor Buckhoff has been the worst professor I have ever had and the only one I have ever disliked so much. This has been my toughest class in all of college. I have not passed a single test at this point. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! SERIOUSLY!
The book is useless. The professor talks mostly about himself. He says on a scale from 0-4 he wouldn't give himself a 4. Do not take it. You can learn about expert witnessing in any other way but through his class.
I got a different answer for a HW ques. I e-mailed him explaining why I arrived at that answer and the criteria that I used, which was diff than what he used. I just wanted an explanation. He replied back to me ALL CAPS saying his answer was correct. So be it, but all caps really, at the Master's level. It was unprofessional, I withdrew from class.
This is by far the worst professor I've ever had in my life. If you have him, drop the class and RUN!!!!
Don't take this professor if you have a choice, better wait and take this class with another teacher. You have nothing to learn from this professor, he only gives you a few power points, the book and that's it. Fraud cases, no examples, no indications just to solve them yourself. Stay away from this teacher as much as you can!
Don't take this teacher, he will ruin your GPA and you won't learn anything from him, plus he has a way of grading the homework that you don't understand, no one gets the highest grade, because no one writes as well he does.
The worst professor ever, don't take this professor is you have a choice. There are 2 exams, one mid and one final, it's from all the modules, you have 120 minutes and 100 questions, but you don't have time to finish everything in 120 minutes. Stay away from this professor.
WOULD NOT ROUND AN 89.65 TO AN "A". Do not take Buckhoff unless you're ready to put in a ton of effort and get a slap in the face. I completed all the extra credit and averaged a 100 on the homework, yet he told me that my 89.65 was "undeserving of an A". He's just one of those professors that is unforgiving and doesn't like to give out A's.
His tests never matched the material in his class because his way of teaching was excel and only excel. Would get mad when we asked if he could teach us the handwritten way even though his tests were like this. Did not learn anything from this man after attending every class and doing every extra credit assignment. Worst professor on this campus.
All he does is click through excel the entire period, which is funny because Excel wasn't available on the exams. He almost seemed to pride himself on being a difficult professor. Avoid at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I did all my assignments and got a 100 on pretty much all of them, but the test were extremely difficult and just about impossible to pass. My overall average was a 69 and he refused to round it to a 70 so I could pass the class. He's very inconsiderate of student grades and only seems to pride himself if his students failure.
He was a tough grader and did not give enough clear instructions on the papers to write. He will set you up for failure.
Nice Guy! His lectures can feel dragged but they always have a point. I found that able to complete school work and still take notes on the side in order to accomplish two birds with one stone. The textbook price is combined with the class which is appreciated. Show up, listen to what he's saying, and do the school work. It's an easy A!
I would not recommend this professor to anyone in the Master's program looking to take some fraudulent accounting classes. He's a very hard grader and doesn't provide good guidance on what to do for any assignment, then complains when the entire class doesn't make above an 82. Avoid him at all costs
Good professor for life lessons. Do the homework and readings should be fine.
If you have a hard time following lectures with professors who go on tangents and don't stick to the presentation, I would not take Dr. Buckhoff. He is really nice majority of the time, but the homework always takes hours and his classes are really hard to sit through.
I would recommend anyone who takes this course to drop or withdraw. Teaches the class through Microsoft excel while the tests are on paper. Barely any extra credit opportunities.
I strongly dislike this professor and would not recommend him to my worst enemy. All he does is tell stories about his accounting business and does not teach the material. He is extremely disrespectful. His class convinced me to change my major out of the business school so that I would never have to have him again. HEED MY WARNING DO NOT TAKE!!!!
Full of interesting stories and great advice.
55% of my grade is made up of 2 tests. There is no reason to go to class as 0 of the material is discussed in class. DO NOT TAKE. He wonders why no one shows up to class. There is 0 incentive. He does a bunch of random stories and when we are doing something else in class(instead of just skipping) he calls us out for not paying attention. L teacher
He's ok... He requires attendance and then proceeds to not discuss anything that has to do with the class. So you could just skip and do all the learning on your own. But he does attendance quizzes with passwords that are only opened for 2 minutes. Sometimes he gave useful advice other times he just aired out personal dirty laundry.
55% of the class is between the midterm and the final. The final is 30% and it is cumulative over the entire book. The other 45% is weekly papers that he grades on a 4 point scale. It is a passable class, but he makes it difficult. If you are not trying to get your fraud examination certificate, i recommend taking another elective.
TBH I don't understand how people can complain so much about Dr. Buckhoff. If you show up to class and complete the modules and final (WHICH ARE ALL ONLINE) its and easy A+. The people that complain about Dr. Buckhoff are either extremely unintelligent or lazy. He was clear about the guidelines and gave plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Attendance is mandatory and there are attendance quizzes that you have to get a password to that he tells you in class. The attendance quizzes are part of your grade. He talks about things we need to know sometimes but mostly its about himself. The classwork is online modules. We do not take any tests the only test is the final.
Dr. Buckhoff is very caring and intelligent, but his lectures mostly involve tangents about his career and beliefs, so you will find that most of what you seek to learn through this course is available to you via Folio. He is a wonderful mentor with years of experience, use him as a resource, he has years' worth of credentials and credibility.
Taking Business 1101 with this professor isn't hard by any means just be prepared for rather dry lectures, to hear how much he makes, in every lecture, and to listen to his religious beliefs.
The only time he ever talked about anything related to the class was when someone asked a question about an assignment. Other than that, all he would ever talk about is his life story. All of the course work was online. He never took attendance and then complained on Folio about how no one showed up anymore. The assignments were really easy though.
Class was really easy. Attendance "quizzes" were randomly given during lectures so attendance is mandatory. Lectures had nothing to do with homework or class material because Professor Buckhoff would usually talk about his life, career, and court cases he's been in but it's all actually really interesting and he's a good story teller and a cool guy
Absolutely Terrible. DO NOT TAKE
He recommended I skip my grandfathers funeral to come to his class for another one of his lectures that had nothing to do with the actual material.
I liked Buckhoff, I took his Intro to Business class. It's really hard to fail this class. All we were graded on were quizzes online that you can take 3 times and attendance. Just be prepared to sit and listen to his beliefs and his family.
attendance is mandatory but he doesn't teach. He will talk about his life the entire semester and talk about how he got sued, and how climate change isn't real. BUT the class is easy so take it ig.
N/A N/A N/A
DO NOT TAKE!!! This guy has one of the biggest egos I have ever seen in my entire time here at Georgia Southern. Dr. Buckoff did not once cover any of the material required for class. When we had guests he spent more time trying to one up the speakers and push his personal agenda, I spent half of the time cringing from second hand embarrassment.
Only reason I can even stay afloat in his class is because of my family full of CPAs. Every single lecture is either just running through excel sheets that aren't helpful for the exams which are on paper or spends the entire hour talking about personal bs in his life. No reason to even show up except for exams. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
All he does is talk about stuff in his own personal life and thinks he is the greatest person to ever exist and is always right. We had 2 connect assignments due every week one taking 30 mins and one taking 2 hours. the LAST week of class RHE WEEK BEFORE FINALS he gives us an assignment that takes 8 hour
Worst professor I have had in my first two years. He never talks about the actual class material - only what is going on in his life or his families life. He thinks he is always in the right, and does not know how to not yell when talking to his students. I learned more in this class by the homework than I did through him. Waste of time.
DO NOT take accounting with this man unless it is your major. He strictly teaches in excel, then is disappointed when the class average is lower than a 50% on the paper exams. I did not pass a single exam in this class nor did anyone that I know. He also assigns seven assignments all due on the same day over something he covers ONE time in class.
He strictly teaches in Excel, and he is proud of it. He'll spend 80% of class time telling you about his life problems. Last day, so I expected him to at least go over the materials, but no, he spent the whole class talking again. I swear he have adhd bc ain't no way he talk that much. Average Score on his exam are always below 55%.
He doesn't teach anything. Wouldn't round me up .5 points in order to pass the class or allow me to redo an assignment that I missed. Would not recommend taking him. He does not care if you fail
Overall a nice professor. I got a B so I can't complain that much. However, his inability to teach his students is just as surprising with the amount of stories he tells. Instead of going over the final he spends half of the class ranting about some bs. He uses excel in all of his lectures which is supposed to help. I learned the subject by myself.
n/a n/a n/a
Spent every lecture talking about himself and his business. I know every member of his family but not the first thing about business. Would not recommend find another professor.
He never does any actual business lectures; it's either a guest speaker or he talks about his personal life. The class is very easy, the only actual grades you get are McGraw-Hill assignments every week and attendance quizzes. If you show up and do homework, you'll do great, but his classes are a pain to sit through.
He is a very nice person, but he does not teach what you need to know for the assignments and the exams.
Almost every class he had a guest speaker come in and talk about their field of business whether it be marketing, economics ,etc. That's not necessarily a bad thing, although whenever he doesn't have a guest speaker be prepared to sit through 1.5 hours of him yapping about his family, lifestyle, etc. The homework is not too hard either.
All of our assignments were online and easy just time consuming. He does random attendance quiz's which is annoying bc his lectures are basically just him rambling about himself. We had a lot of guest speakers throughout the semester. Not an awful class just not interesting at all.
Lectures are so boring, we would have a guest speaker at least once a week, but when he was leading the class he only talks about himself. The only reason I know anything about business is because of the guest speakers. The class is not too hard, McGraw hill assignments and random attendance quiz.
I HATE THIS GUY!!!
The class is not hard and attendance is not mandatory (although crucial for ur grade). However it is beyond boring. All he does is talk about his family and professional career. Everything I learned in this class was from the guest speakers he had not from him. I know more about him and his life than about business.
Attendance is not required, however it's worth 10% of your grade.
You can make a C in the class if you do the work but he will not help at all, i really didn't learn anything, he makes the test impossible to pass
Not a bad teacher himself the lectures were just long and boring
