A decent teacher constrained by a predetermined curriculum, allowing little room for improvisation. Powerpoints for lecture, lab study guides, and exams are the same for all sections and not set up by the teacher. More than happy to answer questions and review lab material item by item. Enjoyed lecture, which was somewhat comical, but relevant.

This class is very interactive with Lord Buettnershire (my nickname for him), and he tries to help people out a lot. Such intelligence in this godlike man is sometimes hard to perceive, but it most definitely is there.

My friends and I really liked him. Though he scatters around on the topic, he explains things in a way you can understand. Thought the tests are a little more advanced than the way he explains it in class,if you read your text book, or just make note cards, getting an A in the class really isn't hard.He's pretty funny, have to get use to him.

This professor doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. He is very knowledgeable about the subject. You can't just memorize the outlines, you have to actually understand what is going on to pass the tests. The tests come from the lecture outlines BUT he does NOT put questions word for word from them on the exams. Overall, he taught me a lot.

If you read his notes and in class hints and you are good to get 100 on your exams. He is hilarious and no one get board in class even with tough material that he teaches, he makes it look super easy even for student with no background in biology. He always gives hints about what is gonna be in exam. Just take the course with him and you will be A.

This was a super easy class . You get to drop a couple quizes and a test which is cool. The quizes are taken as homework so they are extra extra easy. He also does extra credit quizes randomly in class every now and then. His tests were a breeze too since he curves the grade. Its a prety easy A since i never studied and know nothing about bio.

I loved this professor. As long as you show up for class you should do good on test. He's goes through lectures fast but he tells you everything ytjata going to be on test. He gives take home quizzes and he drops your lowest grades. The test are reasonable. He is very sacastic and some people didn't like it but it didn't bother me.

He is very straight forward. Print out lecture notes for class but Do Not Skip Class because there is always information that is put on the board or talked about that will be on the test. He will hint towards things that need to be studied for tests. Accomplish take home quizzes early when they get posted to blackboard.

It was a hard class and I had a 69 before the final but he raised it because I had turned in every quiz and improved on my last test. If you put in the work, you'll get a good grade.

This was a difficult class but he makes it pretty easy to pass. There were 4 exams with an optional final that could replace your lowest test score and we had 12 take home quizzes, of which he took your top 9 scores. As long as you go to class and copy down the diagrams he draws on the board you should be good!

This class was extremely difficult for me because I didnt always attend class. Attendance wasnt mandatory, but he would do random activities that were worth 5 points. He bumped my 67.75 up to a 70 because I improved on the final exam. Overall, he is a great teacher, but he is tough.

Tests came from powerpoint material. No need to read the book. Multiple guess exams. For lecture, he emphasizes material he puts on exams. For my course, all exams were curved reflecting material that was not presented well enough for students to retain. Little critical thinking needed in the course I took but good foundational knowledge.

This was my first biology class in years and I was nervous that I wouldn't pass but my professor made biology easy to learn. Lectures are very important to attend. Professor Buettner is a WONDERFUL teacher. He truly cares about you as a student and as a person. If you are having trouble, his office hours are very helpful. He works with you if you need more explaining of the topic or if you need help with biology in general. One of my absolute favorite teachers.

The class is definitely your run of the mill university classes when it comes to graded material. There are 4 semester scantron exams (scantron not provided though he usually has a couple extras just in case) and a final exam. He issues a quiz every other week or so that needs to be printed, filled out, and turned in on the due date.

I was dreading BIO 111. I hadnt done well with some science professors in the past, and I was nervous. Professor Buettner completely exceeded my expectations. He took so much of his own time to formulate amazing powerpoints for each chapter. He dropped our lowest exams. He made us feel involved in the material. I would 100% take Buettner again.

Buettner genuinely cares about the subject and his students, and it is obvious to see. He lays out the course so as long as you study the powerpoints he places on blackboard, theres no reason you wont get an A. Its so aggravating to see so many comments stating that you need to go to class for Buettner to pass. Its college. Youre paying for this, so the least you should do is show up. Buettner was great for my first year at SIUE. He makes presentation and even outlines for people to print out and use. Id recommend going to his office hours if you have ant questions on his lecture. Teaching about 30 chapters in one semester is hard for any teacher. He was very knowledgeable over the material and didnt skip a detail in anything. My name is Nate Fisher. This professor is engaging and cares about the student's intellectual progress. This class was online because of COVID-19 and was formatted so students could work at their own pace. The professor made it a very easy transition from in-class to an online format without sacrificing the quality of the information.

Ive taken his class twice, this time being with an 8 week summer schedule due to university changes out of his control. because of this, i feel his lectures were very informational and even though we covered a lot in a small time, they definitely aided in learning. hes wirky but makes understanding the material easier.
