Burke is tough..but fair. gives you all the questions before the test. good guy!
You don't do any work except for the night before and you still get a good grade
class is cake like u just want to bake
fun classes, great teacher, but tests are hard
No Comments
love makes the world go round,,,but spending drives the economy......
Funniest class I have ever been in.
Just read the book!
so funny!
Dr. Burke is amazing. He's funny and very intelligent. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
he is funny
You're a fool if you miss out on this professor. One of the best teachers in America, no doubt.
Burke is awesome. Highly recommended to take! He is there to help you, not fail you. Take him!!
cool guy, tells funny stories. tests r hard. he is cool cuz he will only keep u for 20 minutes a class.
easiest/funniest teacher for econ, dont miss out on this guy
good teacher
Dr. Burke is one of those rare Economics professors who knows what he's talking about and can actually teach it. Hilarious guy, and one of the best professors on campus (And, if you need a recommendation, he'll ask your opinion on what to say).
his funny and very nice. make sure you read the books. it's a very easy class
Charming, interesting prof. Has taught the stuff for years, and has a great style in with it. Easy to understand, willing to help those who ask questions.
Very funny.
You could skip every class, only attend the class before the tests, study what he tells you to, get an A+, and have learned a lot. Class is fun. Take him!
teaching was good, tests sucked. You need back tests to do extra well, he tells you what is expected to be on the exam, but his exams are worded differently then what he tells you. Ask for help in class, and he'll prolly make a ass out of you...
He's a real good man, knows his crap, willing to help you after class, funny. Have to study for his class, attendance doesn't matter but I recommend going to class its fun.
Knows what he's talking about, tells you exactly whats on the test, doesn't take attendance. You should definitely try to take him for both micro and macro.

Greatest teacher ever. Easy, clear, and knows what he is talking about. Great sense of humor, class is more entertaining then comedy centrall
The only A i ever got in college was from this class...That should tell you something
Very interesting lectures. Also notable: He wears a 3 piece suit to every class!!
He isn't as easy as everyone makes him out to be, yea he gives you wats on the tests but the are worded totally different, And if you need extra help don't bother asking becuz he blows you off... good luck with him!
Awesome teacher, and funny guy. Great class. Plus, his son helped moderate our final, and his son is HOTTTT!!! Take this class!
his humour doesnt redeem himself as a good teacher. tests are hard, worded completely differently than in the book and most of what hes talking about. tests are hard, doesnt explain things well, and grumpy on every exam day. i wouldnt recommend him
if you good at muiltpy choice test he for you if not avoid.
Def a dry humor-- but hillarious none the less. I had him for class 3 years ago-- and he still smiles when i pass him. need to study, but the tests are not unrealistic at all. TAKE HIM! back tests are usually the same too---
shoots the sh!t too much, his tests are pulled from a manual - too lazy to make his own test. exams are worded diff from the book. don t take him, smells...
not the most interesting class but great teacher; acts just like one of the guys; very friendly and genuinely cares about his students; only bad thing about him is that he went to NOVA
burke is a great teacher, cares about his students and makes the class interesting with his dry sense of humor--tests can be a little difficult bc they get a litle wordy and you need to study a good amount but he does give you a pretty good outline of what the test is on
Takes attendance every time but usually lets u out early by at least 10 or 15 minutes. Tests are worded kinda weird but other than that very straightforward. 4 tests and a final
his tests are hard, but he is the funniest man--the references to harry potter and the stars are highly amusing. plus, he's got the most amazing blue eyes.
He is the funniest man I have ever met, class is always entertaining. He always wears a 3 piece suit to class ... and is really HOT. Tests are a little tricky but its worth it just to hear him and his jokes everyday! Take him might be the best teacher here!
Tests are tricky but his grading scale is very wide. at the end of the semester, if you think u got a C, you'll prob get a B. i know people who thought they would get an F, but ended with a C. very lenient when deciding final grades. very entertaining man, but can be ignorant at times.
Great class, I enjoyed attending. He throws witty entertaining comments in all the time. Class material sucks, but he makes it entertaining and has great stories. One of the best classes I had at SJU. The work wasn't bad at all. Just read all bold crap in the book and you'll get a B at least.
BEST TEACHER AT SJU. He is the man
great teacher. learned a lot - macro really does change the way you look at the world. reminds me of j. peterman from seinfeld, but it makes class interesting
Burke is a really good teacher.
If you do one thing take his class.
Burke is sooo damn funny. I love coming to this class. He rips on certain people and its histerical. 3 tests, drops lowest one. Grade is final, 2 tests, and attendance. Great Class. I hope to take him one more time before the end of my time at SJU...TAKE THIS CLASS
He's really funny but his tests are hard with alotttt of graphs. Takes attendance every single class. I wouldn't take him again.
....THE MAN
very dry humor...you have to laugh. i taperecord the class just so i can go back and listen to his jokes. only bad thing is that he takes attendance every day. he always lets our class out 20 min early though. overall, a pretty sweet prof.
he is so funny and will crack you up when he rips people apart. Very good teacher, only problem is that the final is comprehensive and worth 50% of your total grade....tests are tuff but you really learn alot in his class. Always lets us out early too.
HILARIOUS... calls students jackasses. great class!
j peterman's long lost brother. hilarious guy, rips on his favorites, lets you out early every day. tells you whats on the test the class before. my fav class
Awesome teacher. He rips kids apart which is hysterical. Don't even try to get back at him because he will wittishly demolish you. Tests are multiple choice and very easy. Just pay attention in class and you won't even have to buy the book because he explains everything thoroughly and easily. I would have even taken this as an elective!
Best looking prof ever. Seriously hilarious class. Who knew I'd ever look forward to econ. Makes fun of people who deserve it which is awesome, and doesn't take b.s. Take him now b/c i heard he may be leaving SJU :-( You will remember him and smile.
class material can get pretty boring after awhile, but you don't really have to take notes or pay attention or anything... he puts his notes online and tells you the test questions (essay) days before the test. 4 papers that are just summaries of book chapters and 4 tests. not really easy, but doable with a little work, and burke is always great.
Great guy. Hard material but he's incredibly straightforward. Basically gives you the test to study from. Doesn't want to be in class as much as you do so he lets you out early and cancels class all the time. Take him.
3 tests - statements which you have to classify as true, false, or uncertain with an explanation. can be a little tricky, but he gives you the test a couple days beforehand. also a 10+ page paper on a current topic he picks. don't really need to take notes, just need to skim through the chapters for answers come test time. burke is great, take it.
My favorite teacher at Saint Joes so far. The class is challenging but if you go to all the classes and actually pay attention and take notes, you'll do fine. He gives you a rundown of the tests before hand and pays attention to what you got. Don't sit in the back also unless you want to be called a jackass everyday.
my favorite teacher in the world. seriously, the funniest man ever. i wish i could take every class with him.
he is very clever and is often subtly and not so subtly mocking his students. he is a very easy grader and his grasp of the material for his upper level courses is rather tenuous. if you want comic relief and tips on buying suits, take him. might frustrate the go-getter type.
cancels class and lets out early which is nice. witty guy but challenging class- won't take him again
He is a very good teacher. Lectures are very clear and cover the material well. Pay attention in class and you will get a good grade. Paying attention is easy because he makes class interesting.
Great teacher. Take his class if you can, they usually fill up quick. Tests aren't easy but he covers everything in class.
Takes roll everyday but class is fun. Tests aren't bad and he's good about helping you out during his office hours.
took him last semester, the class was one of the few I didn't mind going to. the class is pretty interesting
class was pretty hard at beginning but he will really help you out. great guy.
one word: awesome. take him if u can, just dont be stupid, read the book and the tests r fine
the man is a living legend, one of the reasons i became an econ major
Dr. Burke is one of the greatest teachers i have ever had. He make the class so interesting with his explanations of how things come about and fit in that you don't wont to cut. If you have to take economics, Burke is the man.
**** but hey, i'm one as well which makes him the don. he is to the point and lectures are fine. suggest you take him for any econ. DON BURKE
Good guy and great teacher. Class is a little difficult but he is funny as hell. I recommend Burke.
Dr. Burke is the man. really funny guy and makes class enjoyable. class gets canceled a lot and he always lets you leave early. tests are a little hard but if you study you'll be fine.
Best teacher at SJU. Seriously, take him. You will get an A unless you are retarded. And classes are actually fun to attend.
AWESOME! reminds me of lewis black. hes really funny. very sarcastic. clearly demonstrates the material, and repeats for the dumb people. this is one class you will really enjoy taking, whether youre econ major or not. i think hes secretly a late night comedian. just read the chapters and pay attention. no homework. just read. and hes FUNNY!
Cool guy, but his class is hard as hell.
very entertaining, offensive to some, actually doing well requires you to study yourself for awhile. easy B, very tough to get an A
Dr. Burke's class is next to impossible. He's a great teacher but tests are unfair. I worked harder in this class than any of my others (I have a 3.6) and had a C- going into the final
Very cool guy and pretty good teacher. A lot of classes off and as long as you read and/or pay attention you will do fine. Class is very enjoyable
sooo hot with his suspenders and 3 piece suits
Dr. Burke is brilliant. Seriously one of the smartest individuals I have ever come across. He knows so much about econ as well as lots of other topics. He tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests and gives great notes. Go to class and pay attention and you have an A no problem. Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Burke treats his Intro classes differently than upper level econs. If you're taking him for intro you just have to show up to class, MAYBE read your book the week before each test, and not be dressed in all sweats and a fitted. If you're dressed like that he's going to call you out and rightfully so. Take Burke, hes easy and the man.
Burke is the man. His class is actually fun to go to and he makes economics interesting and funny. His tests are challenging, however if you listen when he reviews and read the chapters you'll do fine. He usually lets out early, always on days when tests are returned. Take him!
Burke is pretty fun. He makes class enjoyable. your grade depends solely on test performance, but he reads to class everything that's on the test, and if you study the book you'll do fine.
This guy is a champion. Such a boss. Really funny, interesting, and isn't afraid to rip students a new one right in the middle of class. Take him if you can.
Funny, not afraid to speak his mind. Gives no hw, occasionally goes on random rants about stuff. If you read the book and study for the tests youll do fine
Guy is the man it as simple as that.
He the favorite professor of many students. He is extremely entertaining and also puts things in perspective. He is good at getting right to the heart of a topic. Tests are not difficult, and he will usually make very clear exactly what to study. If you take him(for any class) it will be worthwhile. He is the best.
fun class to be in. don't buy the textbook because you really don't need it - get the study guide booklet instead. tells you everything that will be on the test in the exact order it shows up too.. only 4-5 tests throughout the semester and thats all..easy class, very hard to do poorly in
Dr. Burke is a really nice guy, but your grade is compleatly based off tests and how well you study for them, not necessarly how much you pay attention in class. Class would run better if people participate, but other then that I reccommend him. It's a very straightforward class.
The class is entertaining because he's funny, but if you really want to learn about macroeconomics, you might not want to take him. I don't know if it's the case with his upper level courses, but he just rants about topics that are slightly related to what we're learning. He tells you exactly what will be on his tests and they're pretty easy.
Burke is hilarious and actually knows a lot about what he is teaching. If you show interest in the class then he loves to have class discussions but he can get sassy at times and challenge students' intelligence. His tests are fairly easy and doesn't give any quizzes, hw, or papers. If you attend class and study hard for the tests you can get an A.
He is the man, but can have an attitude if you get on his bad side. His lectures are interesting, yet they don't always line up with the chapter material for the test. If you read and study the book, then you will be fine for his tests. He was a great professor to take, and definitely a memorable one.
Burke is the man. Loved showing up to this guys class. If you annoy him, he will call you out. But you probably deserve it. Guy knows his Econ but basically ever one is required to take it so no one really cares. Go to EVERY class the day before the test...answers! Take him
Took him macro and I loved going to his class. It was always entertaining, he is the man. You have at least 5 exams and he drops the lowest. The final is just like any another exam, not comprehensive of the whole semester. Definitely take him again
Burke is the MAN! His classes are very interesting and he has an extreme wealth of knowledge. You have to really pay attention in class because they are pretty much all lectures. The tests are not hard if you STUDY THE BOOK! Also, go to class the day before every test because he practically gives you the questions that will be on the test!
Burke is the best professor I have ever had. Convinced me to be an Econ major, best decision I have ever made. I will be taking every class he teaches. Probably the best professor SJU has. Take him as many times as you can.
One of the best professors I've had. He keeps class interesting and is absolutely hilarious. Just read the text book for exams. Definitely take him.
This was an 8:30 class and I looked forward to it every single time. Burke is always dressed to the nines in his three-piece suits. He is truly a knowledgeable guy and goes out of his way to assist students. Just sit back and listen and you will ace the class. TAKE HIM!
Burke is one of the worst professors I have ever had at SJU. He doesn't actually teach anything, he just sits n class and rambles on about whatever comes to his head. His tests are ridiculously hard because he doesn't teach anything in class. He is not the same teacher everyone used to love at all.
One of the most boring classes I have had. Thinking about his voice makes me cringe. I took his class because of all the great comments on here but I was misled. He must have had to change his teaching habits because he was too easy before. I;m not sure what happened but avoid him!
I have no clue what people are saying about Burke not being the man that everyone used to love. I took his Macro class in the Fall of 2013 and I loved it. 5 exams (including the final), drops the lowest one, all weighed evenly. I thought he was a really interesting guy who presented economics in a manner that made me want to go to class.
Burke is one of my fav professors at SJU. He inspired me double major in Economics and Marketing. Yeah, he can be sarcastic with students, but only to those who don't put effort in. He was always willing to meet before exams and explain things! He tells you everything on exams before exams, just study the topics he gives you!
Worst professor I could have ever imagined taking. He does not care about the students whatsoever. Professor Burke does not want to see you at office hours if you are struggling and he blatantly tells you he does not care what grade you get. He blabs on the entire class and then non of what he said is on the test or final. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Worst professor I've ever had in my life. Do not take this man. He says whatever comes to his head and does not try to help his student whatsoever. Rambles all class and nothing he says is on the test. Avoid at all cost
Dr. Burke is a decent macro professor who knows the material decently well. He's a good option but there's better options. Your grade consists solely of five tests and the final which means you must put a good effort into studying for the test. He does go off on random stories in the middle of teaching.
Burke's class solely depends on the five tests during the semester. There is no homework during the semester. 95% of all test questions come from the textbook. If you know macro, Burke is your guy. Be warned, if you screw up on one test, you are pretty much screwed.
Goes on tangents about stuff that never even appears on the tests but you'll be fine if you come to class the day before tests and read the book. He will call you out, but it's usually in good fun. Not the worst professor I've had here.
I've had Dr. Burke for two classes, an into and an upper division and he's very consistent with both of them. Beneath his grumpiness, he's actually a very smart professor who knows his stuff. Never really had a problem with both of the classes I've had with him.
One of the funniest and easiest professors Ive taken and SJU. He switched to all online tests, so you can look up all the questions online while taking it and not study at all. But if you do want to take the actual test yourself, the questions are straight out of the book. His lectures are long, but he's really funny. Overall would take again.
Long, dry, boring lectures. Would have appreciated visuals, he usually just sat at his desk and rambled without writing on the board or anything which made it hard to follow. He gives you all the questions that will be on the test the day before and it's straight from the book so just bring your laptop & do other work then read the book to study.
Sports Econ. Class was simple. No homework and Burke let you know exactly what was on the exam most of the time. He is a surly older guy that wants you to participate in class. If you don't, Burke will rip on you for it. TALK in this class or it will be unbearable to sit through. Class is not bad at all though.
He's a great guy who tells you every chapter what you need to know from it for the test. Just pay attention to the short list he calls the menu and its pretty much the study guide
Dude misses class all week and gives test on a chapter not covered in class. C'mon man, unfair.
his tests are online and you can find the questions and answers on quizlet verbatim if you copy and paste the question in a search bar. also he doesn't know anyone's names and doesn't look up when doing role, so if you wanna skip get one of your buddies to say "here!"
He is very honest and blunt and he tends call out students who appear to not be paying attention in class. No homework but your grade is based on 4 tests. If you attend the class before the test he tells the class everything that is on the test, which usually consist of multiple choice. Rambles a lot about random stuff. You either love him or him
This is an overall OK class. The class is not too hard. There are 5 tests and he drops the lowest grade. The 4 tests are the only parts of the grade so you can't really afford more than 1 bad one. There was some opportunities for extra credit this semester. The lectures are dry and a bit boring. I recommend his class but it's nothing special.
Burke is one of the better options micro/macro. He comes off as sort of a grouch, but it's kind of just for show. The class before the exam he reviews exactly what is going to be on there, which is really nice and helpful. The tests are all multiple choice, and he drops the worst of the four tests you take. I would definitely recommend him.
Dr. Burke is legendary. Wears a three piece suit every day to our 8am class. Goes off topic a lot and the lectures can be boring but we never had homework and we only had 4 tests. The final grade is the 4 tests plus the final averaged & he drops the lowest test. On the surface he is rough around the edges but is a true sweetie at heart. love him!!
Such a great professor. He's a bit intimidating at first, but his jokes are funny and he's a great guy. You have to pay attention to his lectures & what he draws on the board, but I recommend skimming the textbook also. No homework or quizzes, only 4 tests (lowest test score is dropped) then the final. He also goes over each test the class before.
Such a bad professor. I would not recommend taking. He is very self centered and full of himself. He is the least bit willing to help his students grow and learn on their mistakes. He also told me it wasn't worth coming to his office hours cause he said it wouldn't do anything. Moral of the story DONT take him!!
He is a terrible teacher. He is so self-centered, arrogant, and such an inconsiderate teacher. He literally cannot teach and his lectures are boring and he rambles on about nothing.
Not the best teacher by any means. Subject material is very dry and his teaching does not help make it more interesting. Only graded on 4 tests, no curves, no extra credit, minimal opportunities to succeed in the class. Very interesting guy who has a lot of funny anecdotes and comments but not that great as a teacher.
worst lectures ever, doesn't care about whether the students will pass. your grade is only determined by 3 exams. doesn't teach anything you have to teach yourself all of the material, would never take again
He's an absolute terrible teacher. The tests are so hard and confusing for no reason, even if you study lot. Your grade is only based on tests and nothing else. That would mean attendance wouldn't matter right? No, he takes attendance every class, but no grade. DONT TAKE HIM
