Great professor!! Exams are challenging and reading the book is a must if you want to do well. Seems intimidating at first, but is a great guy who is always willing to help. Stick with it and you will do fine. Exams and overall grades are heavily curved as well.

This professor is amazing and he is the real deal. His tests are awesome if you study or read the material. His text book is great. I love economic because of this guy!

I have had Pro. Carroll for ECON 180, 302, and 441. At first I thought he was going to be mediocre after reading some of these comments. I was dead wrong. He is one of the best economics professors at UNLV. He wants his students to succeed! If you put in the necessary effort into his classes you will pass!

He is as bad as his text. There is a reason why his text is free off of his website...it's not worth the paper it would be printed on. Stay away from him and take Chen and/or Malamud for your Econ classes. You'll actually learn Econ and not be forced to listen to his political opinions

Do not take his class unless you are extremely good at econ. Exam1=25%,exam2=35%,final40%, I went to every class and put effort. His test are extremely tricky. You loose a point for every wrong answer,No extra credit. Just exams. What he teaches in class has nothing to do with the test is he is so confusing. First class I failed and I'm a senior.

Thoroughly confused. what he lectures about in class will not be on the test. read the book but it does not help much. dont take this class especially social work majors!! his grading system is +1 correct ans. -1 for wrong. if you know your an avg C student you probably wont make it. you will get the C but the neg answers you pick will give you a F

Yes he is very political and personally I did not like that. As for the class, if you want to be a SW or be in health, THIS IS THE CLASS for you !!! It gives you the ability to be better at your job and justify it with #s so the gov will not cut your job. Also if you don't guess, the curve will bump you from a C to A; that's how I got an A.

Required class for SW majors, and I highly recommend taking it over summer term alone to focus on it & get it over with. Extremely difficult course, but Prof. Carroll is awesome & an asset to UNLV. Over 5wk summer: weekly essay exams(grade is based on exams)& he allows re-writes for half points after first grading except for the final exam.

If you want to pass econ 261 the first time around. I suggest you take another professor. He is not a good teacher and his tests are tricky which makes them hard. He deducts points if you circle the wrong answers on the tests. This class only consisted of 3exams and him talking, I mean "teaching". To make yor life easier don't consider taking him.

Bad professor. He goes on to talk about his career and I would space off a lot. Horrible grading system. I doubt you'll pass his class on the first try. I have to retake it :( I recommend you take another professor.

Most ridiculous grading system ever made. The class average is below a "C" on every exam due his grading technique. The highest grade on the second exam was an 81%. Meaning the person with the best understanding of the material just reached a B. Not an inspiring teacher. Very broad lectures that leave you confused on material.

Terrible teacher. You can get a negative score on exams because if you answer wrong you minus points and his questions have more than one right answer. DON'T TAKE HIM.

His tests were hard because of how he grades. He gives a +1 for every right answer and a -1 for every wrong answer. Do not guess. He also gives Idk's as choices on a few of the questions. The lectures do help somewhat. The homework was easy but he doesn't check it. He will give your highest grade (avg of all tests and hw or just final).
