The best religion class I have taken. Brother Chapman is HILARIOUS and so fun. His insights are deep and really get you thinking. I honestly think that Brother Chapman is one of the bestthe best religion teacher in the department. He will always take the time to answer questions and to explain things clearly for his students to understand.
He is very intelligent, having a PhD in religion & philosophy, taught in HS & College levels, & serving in wards & stakes. Very funny& easygoing. expected to read before class, & discusses the underground spiritual meanings in the BOM. 1 test(final), explains quizzes beforehand: "Open note, open scripture, open heavens! No open neighbor!" love him
The best class I have EVER taken. I couldn't say enough good things, I have never enjoyed going to class so much before for anything, or loved listening to lectures. But I did for his class and the only homework we ever had was to read the BOM chapters before coming to class, so it was wonderful and none stressful. Loved it in every possible way.
The most amazing teacher!! Super funny and you can tell he really loves the gospel. He tells personal stories and really grabs your attention so that class is not boring. Homework is just your reading assignment and then the exam at the end of the semester is easy.
Brother Chapman is an amazing teacher! He gives inspirational lectures and gives you all the answers to the tests. The midterm and final consist of a few essay question and are almost impossible to fail. Show up to class, do the reading and you will get an A
LOVED HIM! He is such a great inspirational teacher who cares about you increasing your testimony rather than make it a burden to associate educational homework. Just show up everyday and do the readings and you'll get an easy A. Definitely a great experience!
Taking Book of Mormon from Bro. Chapman was an amazing experience. The man is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to mormon doctrine. If you show up, do the readings, and remember the answers for the quizzes (he gives them to you the class period before), then there is no reason why you shouldn't pass. Great man, great class, and great experience.
Brother Chapman is a very knowledgable and fun man! Highly recommend him for any religion class.
You will learn and laugh more than you ever have in a religion class. Show up, engage, and get an A.
LOVE him!!! He is very knowledgeable and makes you want to learn! TAKE HIM!!!!!! Class is not rough but at the same time you learn a lot!!!!
Brother Chapman probably knows the scriptures better than anyone at BYU-I. His lectures are amazing and you always leave class with your mind blown. There's a midterm and a final but they're a few questions and he gives you all of the questions before you take them so it's super easy. There's one research paper due at the end of the semester.
Extremely knowledgeable. Prepare to learn a lot and increase your testimony. There have been many days when he has inspired me to become better and more serious about my devotion to the gospel. I have never laughed so much in my life! Very easy class, but you still learn a ton. Would love to take religion from him every semester.
All you need to know is this: He is funny and knows a lot but goes way way into detail about things that are informational but do not necessarily pertain to your salvation. It's interesting though. Always long lectures, a final paper, a 3 question midterm and a 6 question final. Readings before each class and attendance is graded.
I loved this teacher!! Took him twice! You can feel the Spirit in the classroom.
If you just want to get Eternal Family over with, take Br. Chapman. He doesn't make you memorize the Family Proclamation, which is super nice. He also has a VERY dry sense of humor, but he really tries to make the class as easy as possible for you. Just show up and do the readings.
Church History. Bro Chapman jokes a ton, pretty funny. Class is kinda like story-time, where he just tells you really interesting stories. He gets into all the interesting controversial stuff. Easy A if you show up
He is super smart, but not arrogant. He is also funny, and makes every lecture enjoyable. I loved that he gave very clear instructions as to what our assignments were, and when they were due. The assignments were just simple readings that were uplifting and enriching. If you stay on top of the readings, and come to class you will get an A.
Brother Chapman is awesome! If you are ready to graduate from the elementary religion classes and learn deeper doctrine, meanings, and explanations of the gospel then take his class. He assigns very little homework. Pretty much just assigns readings with no assignments tied to them. He is hilarious! Very chill and laid back. He knows his stuff!
I thought some of his lectures were interesting, but he teaches a lot of personal doctrine and his theatrical personality distracts from being able to feel the spirit. Most of your grade is dependent on showing up and signing a piece of paper.
Brother Chapman lectures on and on. There is little interaction with students, but he is a great, semi-enjoyable teacher. one quiz every two weeks that are always super easy as long as you pay attention. Easy A if you just go to class and pay attention. Exams are "robust paragraphs."
Chapman is one of the best professors I have had in a long time. He does really great lectures and knows his stuff. He cracks the best jokes. Really helped me understand things I had never even thought of before.
Brother Chapman thinks he's hilarious but he literally uses the same 3 jokes over and over. Very easy class, but I don't feel like I actually learned very much. Your grade is based on attendance and doing the reading. Easy midterm and final that you can take at home. If you do the research paper, you'll get an A on it.
You have to hand in a 6 page research paper at the of the semester. That was a lot. Other than that you just have to read before you go to class. Easy A.
Brother Chapman knows about everything about the Church. He has worked in the Church History Department and has a very robust resume for teaching religion classes. If you have a question, he will answer it. He has a very dry sense of humor that can seem prideful if you don't know him. But he is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Great religion teacher, knows his stuff. Pretty hilarious too.
I love this class so much! Brother Chapman is the best and you learn so much! You have reading and one large research paper, but it's super easy to do well just do your reading and show up!
Brother Chapman is AWESOME!! He's the most knowledgable religion teacher at BYUI & his humor is super dry! The readings are easy & attendance is important (He Legit!! So why skip? Seriously!). The Midterm is 2 Q's and it took me about 5 mins & the Final is 6 Q's. Besides that the only thing we have to do is write a paper at the end of the semester.
There is a reading for every class but it is no problem at all. There are no quizzes on them. It is just to prepare you for the lecture. You take a midterm and final which is pretty much just write a couple essays and you'll get a 100%. One research paper. Just do it. Really funny and knowledgeable about the gospel. recommend him!
Professor Chapman is perhaps the best religion teacher. I have taken 3 classes from him and I have enjoyed every single one of them. He always has great lectures and the work load is perfect.
He's awesome! He really teaches to the needs of the class, and he has a different midterm and final for each class, personalized for what he taught that particular class, so you need to attend! Don't be afraid to ask whatever question, he loves tangents. There's one assignment the whole semester - a 6 page paper that you start at the beginning.
Brother Chapman is the man in the religious department. He uses the spirit a lot and asks very inspiring questions to the class. does not like using I-Learn so he does other ways to make the class very fun and exciting. He is always acceptable to know what you are wanting out of this class. He always takes time to help you out with love and dignity
I didn't enjoy this class at all. He lectured on random tangents and would encourage the class to talk about deep deep doctrine or speculation on doctrine. It was an easy A but it wasn't worth how bored I was sitting in class.
Brother Chapman is an excellent religion professor. He knows a lot about church doctrine and history and shares it with his students. There are readings before class but they aren't bad to tackle the night before or the morning of the class.
I love brother C! He teaches doctrine and will help you learn a lot about the gospel if you listen and participate. It is an easy A and you can get as much out of it spiritually as you want to. He is always helping his students understand different concepts and making us laugh! I highly recommend!!
Brother Chapman goes above and beyond in teaching the material, adding personal experiences and getting really deep into what we are learning. I never want to learn from another teacher again because they will not go nearly as deep as Brother Chapman does. The Great Chapinzi is truly a feast no one can miss at this campus.
Brother Chapman teaches to your understanding and instills a desire to better learn the Gospel. His class was incredible.
He was great
Bro. Chapman is a great man. However, it was a struggle to not fall asleep. His voice is very monotoned. He's funny in the dry-humor sense. He does care about his students and he cracks jokes a lot. I personally like my religion profs to be a bit more animated or else I have to fight my eyes to stay open. The research paper is easy. Easy A.
This teacher cares for his class. He is always cracking jokes and having fun as well as getting spiriitual too.
Loved his class!
He is my favorite teacher I've had! He knows his church doctrine very well, in fact he even taught at Harvard I believe. I respect him and look up to his example. He is excellent at teaching the Gospel in a spiritual way while still cracking jokes. All hail General Glug Glug (take his class to understand)!
While he does know the doctrine, it was impossible for me to find the line between when he was being sarcastic and when he wasn't. I do not do well with sarcasm and it definitely does not belong in a religion class. I found myself doubting basic principle I thought I understood. I was so confused by the time the class was over.
I honestly did not like him at all. I had him for FDREL225. I ended dropping his class because even though he is very qualified and knowledgeable, he was so arrogant it hurt. I am a really good student and always stay on top of the work that every teacher gives me, but his class was not good. Taught opinions as doctrines. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
One of the best religion professors I have ever had. Prepare to get your mind blown about basic gospel principles. There are two tests and a big essay but besides that the work load is normal scripture reading.
Bro. Chapman is a really funny teacher, but he would often branch out of the lecture, and sometimes we wouldn't even touch on what we should've studied for the day! I took D&C because I love it, and I did learn some very interesting things because he is very knowledgeable, but I wish we could've gone more in depth in the doctrine
Brother Chapman is a funny teacher. Take notes on the lectures to help on the tests. He does teach in depth doctrine, but its in the interest of helping us achieve salvation. The 13 Articles and their principles are taught. Just show up and do the readings to pass. A final research paper ties everything together. Paper scriptures!
100% brother chapman is one of the 3 Nephites. He's an amazing professor and is absolutely hilarious. He always makes you smile and laugh in his class. You will love having him as a professor.
Phenomenal teacher! He was a blast in a religion class. Very wise and knows what he's talking about. If you want to know where he got a certain point from he will send or show you the material or quotes. He is funny and makes class worth going to. Very clear grading and worthwhile assignments. Never felt like there was busy work at any point.
Brother Chapman is the best professor I've ever had! He's amazing, hilarious, and knows how to get a 7:45 am class engaging. 100% recommend.
Brother Chapman does a great deal to make his lectures hilarious and very deep. He introduces very heavy concepts and he points out the answers to the tests- just make sure to take notes on each lecture. There is quite a bit of before class reading but all the information is in class.
The Great Chapazini. He is awesome. You write a 6 page paper for the final and he gives you all semester to do it. All you have to do is show up and read his assignments beforehand. He is really funny and teaches straight lectures. No participation required. Don't even have to discuss with neighbors. Sometimes he teaches opinion as doctrine.
Very informative professor. He is very experienced and knows the scriptures very well. He is very inspirational and his lectures are impressive. I laughed so hard in many classes. His expectations for midterms and finals are very clear and his pre-exam reviews are comprehensive.
Super nice professor who knows the scriptures very well. He is willing to help wherever he can!
There is a crap ton of reading in this class. Brother Chapman is so funny and really brings church history to life. The lectures are funny and I learned so much. He knows his stuff. The midterm and final are short answer and you have to put thought and effort but if he sees that you really tried then you will easily pass the class. He values effort
Brother Chapman is amazing. He is super knowledgable and will answer, also loves, answering questions about any doctrinal questions you may have. The class is laid back but really thought provoking and inspiring. You only have one main assignment, which is a 6 paged paper - that he tells you about day one. Super easy class and great teacher.
Brother Chapman is so knowledgeable and caring. He wants to make sure his students get something out of his class. As a convert and a member from Africa, I learned so much about the restoration and the history and life of the Prophet Joseph Smith from Brother Chapman. He knows his staff real well.
He is a great teacher. He is understanding and wants to help you pass. You have a reading every week which isn't much since a lot is pre-recorded videos. Then you just need to do a quiz that says you did it. Attendance matters. He was easy to get a hold of when I had internet problems and gave me credit. I would take him again.
He was a nice guy and really intelligent, but I found him preaching speculation a lot of times and I didn't really like that. He also requires a 7 page research page paper. You have the whole semester to do it but I found it to be kind of tedious. Again, really nice guy and gives you candy, but didn't love him as a professor.
Brother Chapman is one of my favorite religion professors at BYUI now after taking his class. Brother Chapman is extremely intelligent. He is honestly one of the kindest people ever and he really cares for his students. I would take his class again in a heartbeat.
Brother chapman is the best! I look forward to my classes, I've learned a lot in his classes and they are honestly my favorite part of the day.
Bro Chapmans classes are very lecture heavy, but he fills them with such fun and interesting doctrine I dont even mind. He is such a sweet and funny guy you can really tell he knows what hes talking about and he constantly checks up to make sure we understand the material. Top notch religion teacher!!
Brother Chapman is a spicy teacher! Believes religion class should be religious, not academic. Has the right and loving attitude.
I loved taking Brother Chapman's class! He is a real gem and has inspired me to go beyond the bar! He has amazing insight and one can tell that he really loves his job!
He is so funny!!! Super awesome lectures!!!! Like go take him Now! He has a research paper due but thats it and he breaks it up for you throughout the semester. He is so knowledgeful!!!
absolutely loved this class and this professor-- he is a mix of Elder Holland and Brad Wilcox and even a 7:45 am class in person was something I looked forward to-- you do have to write a 6 page(well 8 if you include proposal and outline) paper but it is the only assignment besides reading, so it is completely manageable and not overwhelming at all
Brother Chapman is a great religion professor. He cares a lot about the students and makes class fun. Attendance is required like all religion classes. Minimal assignments. Easy A class. DO NOT BE ON YOUR PHONE, you will loose points and it is kind of rude to the professor.
Brother Chapman is probably one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. I was in his teachings of the Book of Mormon class and he made it very clear what we need to do to get a good grade. Show up to class with the readings done, and turn in your research paper on time. You choose your own topic for the six-page research paper. Easiest test!
brother chapman is amazing! He has such amazing lectures, and the midterms and finals are super easy! You have to show up if you want credit, and bring a paper copy of the scriptures, but that's super easy!
He is an amazing Professor who really cares for his students. He wants you to learn but doesn't give a lot of homework its mostly just come to class and participate plus a little reading outside of class. He is awesome 10 out of 10 would recommend to everyone.
Brother Chapman is awesome and I would 10/10 take a class from him again! If you go to class and do the assignments (there are very few) he is happy to give you an A. Great teacher, and His lectures are awesome!
Brother Chapman is really funny with his lectures. His quizzes are based off notes in class and he gives the questions and answers for each one a few days before. Be sure to show up to class! There's a reading assignment due each day of class and is marked as well as attendance. 9AM classes aren't my favorite though, so I'd choose a later time.
I looked forward to this class each week. I had a nice front-row seat. His final testimony in class literally made me cry. He opened my eyes to a lot of scripture I never considered.
Brother Chapman is a great professor. He truly cares about each one of his students. He make each day in class fun with his hilarious and sarcastic ways. I would take his class again.
I liked being in Brother Chapman's class, he really invited the spirit. But he would have us read one thing, then talk about something else for class. It was kinda confusing, but I still enjoyed having him as my teacher.
I LOVE this class! Brother Chapman is SOOOO funny. I look forward to going to this class every week. If you didn't want to pay attention you can still get an A... but as you will learn in class, it is best to learn as much as you can.
Bro. Chapman is great because he doesn't require lots of homework; has informative, inspirational, and understandable lectures; and because he is caring and accessible outside of class. He said he doesn't accept late work, but let me take the final after it closed when I had no excuse for missing it. He gives everyone high grades too.
I've really enjoyed Brother Chapman's class. It has been one of the highlights of my time at BYUI. I've learned so much and most of all I've been inspired to learn more of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on my own. He is an excellent example of putting the Gospel first. He is hilarious and kind. I highly recommend.
Brother Chapman is a funny and nice person. He is a great teacher and learned a lot from his class.
Teaches a fun class and is very kind to all of his students. Very inspiring, no complaints. The paper that you write is extremely easy.
He does not allow any electronics in class. You MUST have a pair of physical scriptures. I didn't want to buy physical scriptures; I've used my phone my whole college career here. I've been able to avoid the paper back required professors because usually it's displayed that they require physical scriptures as you choose to sign up for courses.
Brother Chapman is super funny, and he definitely knows his stuff. I took his class at 9am and I found myself falling asleep a lot because he just lectures. There's also a pretty big paper due at the end of the semester so get ready for that of you have a pretty full course load.
Brother Chapman is awesome. He always brings a great spirit and has a lot of knowledge to share. He always makes sure you know what you need to know in order to find success in his class.
Brother Chapman is one of the best teachers at BYU-I. He genuinely loves the gospel and his students! He jokes a lot and is more than willing to go off on a side-subject to answer a question or make a point. He openly says he will not ask more from us than he does of himself. His discussions are always so powerful and very interesting. Participate!
Not my favorite religion professor, but he was pretty good for this class. Every day is a lecture day, so be prepared for that, but the assignments are really easy and don't take that much time. Just come to class prepared and ready to be lectured the whole hour
Brother Chapman was so fun. Show up to class and read your chapters but overall very easy. If you miss an assignment and turn it in late he is very understanding. He is fun and his lectures are not a bore.
Taking a class from Brother Chapman is like being taught by you're grandpa (assuming you like yours). He is super funny but it never distracts from the lesson. Easy class and great teacher.
Brother Chapman is hands down my favorite professor. His class is centered around our own desire to learn. If you want an A you will get an A. Whether that be an honest A or a dishonest A will be up to you. You can tell he has a wealth of knowledge and is overqualified for this position. Great guy who loves both the Lord and his students.
Brother Chapman Is Amazing. I grew up in the church but he taught many things that most bishops cant answer. He knows his stuff. You will have to read before each class but its not bad. There is a paper that you will have to study for and write but its spread out throughout the semester. He has a midterm and final but he gives questions beforehand.
Professor Chapman was on of the best professors that I have had. He was the class that I would look forward to going to. His class is based off your questions and what he has to say. He is really funny and you will laugh throughout all the lesson. He is the professor that would help if you ask, and someone comfortable and easy to ask for help.
What a religion class should be. Focused on the spiritual aspect instead of the school part.
reading before each class. then attendance quiz, you just mark you were there. He gives you the answers for the midterm and final, very easy. There is a 6-page research assignment you work on throughout the whole semester. It seems scary but he doesn't care about the execution, just what you have to say. Awesome teacher but does make you sleepy.
Incredible teacher I would take again
Brother Chapman is an amazing professor! I loved feeling the spirit each day in his class.
Bro. Chapman is a hilarious teacher. He teaches differently from others, he teaches us by the book and with cool stories. Attendance matters, but you can talk to him if you're gonna be absent. Prepare to write a paper for the whole semester, it's not tough but a wonderful experience to get your A. I would definitely take his class again.
Brother Chapman is an incredible teacher. I was very sad when the class was over. He is so scripturally intelligent. He knows so much about the scriptures. If you ask him about a topic, he will give you multiple scripture references just off the top of his head. And he is hilarious. He has kind of a dry sense of humor but it's really funny.
There is nothing foundational about this restoration class and I wouldn't have it any other way! I have learned so much about the gospel and I have felt the spirit so strongly in this class. The great Chapazini is absolutely hilarious and I can't recommend his class enough!
Great teacher, fun and enlightening class. As long as you get the paper in and show up to class it should be a piece of cake.
I don't really know the class codes I took from him tbh. Although I took 3 classes from him. Foundations of the restoration, Teaching of the Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants part 2 (325). He will teach you so much about the gospel! He is extremely wise and qualified. He has you write a paper but its for your benefit.
Brother Chapman tells some amazing stories! Get started on your research paper right away and divide your time properly and the class will be no problem. Very lecture heavy but it's interesting if you're paying attention and listening to what he has to say. He will answer off topic questions and take the time to make sure you understand everything!
He's the best! His sense of humor is hit or miss but it don't bother me. He tells the most amazing stories and dives DEEP into the doctrine. I've learned so much. He's the best.
Bro Chapman is one of the best religion professors I've had! He is hilarious and will tell the class funny stories or jokes. It made showing up early worth it. You do have to write a paper, but it's not hard.
Brother Chapman is honestly one of the best professors on this campus. I recommend him to anyone that really cares about our religion and wants to know more. He dives into the deep doctrine and often leaves me in tears with his powerful lectures. You can tell he's only a teacher here because he wants to be. I love this man. He gives me chocolate.
Bro. Chapman made getting up at 7:00am worth it. INCREDIBLY knowledgeable in gospel doctrine. The Spirit is tangible when Bro. Chapman teaches. He's hilarious and entertaining with his lectures, and he is genuinely caring about his students. Bro. Chapman clearly loves the gospel and loves to teach it.
Excellent professor, very funny. His classes are not very international student-friendly, with very little visual representation, so it's difficult to understand what he is talking about when you had the church in another language. You will have to do a big paper and research but you will work on it during the whole semester, so keep that in mind.
Brother Chapman is by FAR the best religion teacher I have ever had. He is so fun to listen to and always brings the spirit. He is so funny and so knowledgeable about the gospel. He isn't boring at all and I always looked forward to his class. He is a pretty easy grader, and understanding if you need to turn in late. I can't recommend him enough!
The class was fine. The only big assignment you have to do is write and 8 page essay. Brother Chapman was a nice guy, just very confusing in his lectures. He knew what he was talking about, but he would often go on random tangents.
Very few assignments, but he grades very generously. You have an attendance quiz daily, midterm, final, and the other few assignments are all for the paper. He gives you the questions for the test during the review, and where you can find scripture references. He is a generous grader with the paper, as long as you meet the basic requirements.
The best religion teacher I have had, he knows the gospel inside and out and can show connections and explain the more complicated things so that we could have a greater understanding. 10/10 class will be looking for other classes he teaches.
Chapman is amazing. His lectures are very interesting as long as you ask the right questions. He is willing to talk about anything you ask in class religion related. He knows his stuff.
If you want to learn about the restoration and grow your testimony in that area, do not take from Brother Chapman. He is insanely knowledgable about the gospel and tells you cool things you've never heard before, but does not focus on simple truths. He's very funny and I liked listening to him, but this class was not what I had hoped for.
Such an inspirational teacher! He really knows the gospel well and it shows! 10/10 would take again. I've already taken multiple of his classes.
He's a great guy who knows just about everything in the gospel, but he also loves to make that known. Dripping in sarcasm, the great Chapazine will still wow you with spiritually profound statements and tai-kwon-do noises. He also told us we ought to write that he is a "Cilli Pepper" in both score and hotness. If you want a deep dive take his class
I loved having him as a professor! He is so funny and has a great testimony of the Savior. He is very caring and you can tell he genuinely wants the best for his students.
He is genuinely one of the best religion professors I have ever had, loved his class. And I was amazed by how much did I learn.
Brother Chapman is so funny and very intelligent. He does not give busy work or long assignments and this makes it easy to actually focus and learn about the gospel. Other professors give so much homework you can't even focus on growing your testimony.
super condescending and black and white thinker. random tangents and irrelevant topics. I love the Gospel, but i hated this class.
Super awesome! Especially first thing in the morning. His energy and humor are infectious, and if we are having a rough time, he is not afraid to make everyone stand up and sing "Do as I'm doing." Every class, I leave feeling uplifted and have learned so much.
Brother Chapman is one of the best religion professors I've had! Very knowledgeable, spiritual, and charming. He is experienced and cites the scriptures and prophets in an incredible manner! Grades on attendance, midterm, essay, and final. Treats everyone with respect whilst not mincing doctrinal truths! I felt the Holy Spirit in his class :D
Professor Chapman is a knowledgeable and engaging instructor. His lectures are packed with fascinating insights, though he can be quite sarcastic at times. Definitely take notes and utilize resources like unstuck AI to stay on top of the workload.
Bro Chapman focused primarily on secondary aspects of the gospel and shared his own spiritual revelations paired with documents outside the standard works and relevant prophetic counsel. Super funny and nice guy all things considered but would not recommend this class if you are wanting to focus on the foundations of this gospel.
He's very knowledgable about the gospel, but it felt like there were almost too many things bouncing around in his mind. There were many class periods where we hardly touched on the assigned reading in favor of following a long-winded tangent. He wants to share and teach, but I often felt more confused/lost than I did spiritually enlightened.
Bro Chapman is an excellent teacher. In his class you'll dive a little deeper into the doctrine rather than just surface level stuff often focused on by other teachers. I took his class about 3 years ago and there's a few lessons that I still remember and try to apply into my life.
It's obvious that Bro Chapman is incredibly well versed in scripture, but rather than use that to teach us, he seemed to just want to show off his own knowledge. He tells a lot of rambling stories and doesn't really have a lesson plan- there were weeks we didn't even open the Pearl of Great Price. Zero opportunities to participate or to engage.
He goes into a lot of deep doc and puts his own opinions and thoughts in place in the timelines. I left his class feeling confused and wondering where he got his info from. If you like going into deep doc and getting your teachers interpertation of the scriptures, then take this class. I felt like he didn't talk about the restoration at all.
Knowledgable, sensitive, will answer your doctrinal/controversial Qs. Lecture-based. Req paper scriptures but does not shame people for not having them, I bring BoM & use phone for Bible. Funny, prep reading is simple/doable. Midterm & final Qs are covered in class & only req genuine thought. 6-page paper is broken down so you cant procrastinate.🤩
I liked Brother Chapman for who he is: he's an old guy who likes to tell jokes and teach the Gospel. Sure, his humor can get boring to a point but there's no harm to what he does. There are classes where a question can derail him and lead to a 30 minute rant on things that are not related to the class. But, he does know the Gospel.
He's a really smart guy and you can tell deep down that he cares for our salvation. However the doctrine he teaches is something I have never heard of. He doesn't cite his sources so I didn't have any idea if what he was teaching was true or not. If you like deep doc then this class is for you. If you like basic truth don't take this class
Brother Chapman has studied the gospel his entire life and it shows. He goes into very deep doctrine but always has sources to back it up. He keeps his lectures focused on doctrine, yet slips in stories and jokes to keep you engaged. You can tell he genuinely cares about you and wants you to know what you believe in. I would absolutely recommend!
Brother Chapman is such a GOAT. His jokes adhered to my dry humor and always caught my attention when I zoned out in class. He had good insights, and I enjoyed his curriculum and teaching style. If you forget to do the after-class quiz saying you attended class and did the readings your grade however got slightly cooked.
Bro Chapman is amazing! He likes to teach a lot of deep doctrine so be aware of that if you are wanting a class that's more focused on the fundamentals. He truly loves his students and he likes to engage with them. I learned a lot about the gospel from him that I did not know before. The biggest (and only assignment) for FDREL is a research paper.
He cares about every student, teaches in a way that makes you understand everything and connects all the dots back to previous learning, and will make you laugh every single day.
