Goes over things really quickly but a nice guy and decent teacher. Very willing to negotiate (dropping quizzes, etc.) Very energetic, makes the 75 minute class go by fast. Young.
Really young, energetic guy...
pretty young; it seems like he's still learning how to be a teacher, but that's what you should expect from a tech guy turned professor. really likes the technological aspect of 040 and seems like he's still learning about the business aspect himself. but nice guy, fairly easy grader.
This guy talks way too fast. His quizzes suck ass. I would just barely pass. Boring, boring class but he was a nice guy. He'd help you out with anything.
Good Class, Good teacher. WebCT Quizzes are intense but he makes class lectures interesting and lively.
He was a really cool teacher and was really easy to follow. He keeps the class interactive and interesting. I definetly suggest him.
fair and helpful
Lectures were fairly interested. He was extremely corny...you will not fall asleep in this class for sure.
This professor definitely has a problem, if you want to spend all your free time doing his home work assignements and thousands of additional readings this is class is for you.
Chittenden is the man. The class is really interactive and he makes sure that all of the concepts he presents are as clear as possible.
"The Man". FAIR as can get. Clear and precise unlike some in the business. Expect to work, unless your a computer savy business person already. Definitely deserves his name on a Bank and Apple Juice container. Need more like him in BSAD. The business school lacks proper teaching.
Unbelievable. For this class (bsad40), don't hate the player hate the game. It's a lot of busy work and kind of takes up your life, but Chittenden really makes you feel like you're doing it for a reason. He answers e-mails instantly, is really easy to talk to, incredibly up to date on his technology. Kids who didn't have him wish they did.
Professor Chittenden is an entertaining Prfessor. He is always willing to help students and he loves what he does. If you're unsure of something he said in class don't be shy, go to his office hours and he will make it clear. Professor Chittenden is an excellent professor and if you have the chane to take his class don't squander your oppertunity!
You learn alot you never need to know and he throws a ton of curveballs on the exams.
T Chitte is the man. He always tells you exactly how it is. Be ready to work and attend class pretty regularly as there are often in class quizes on the nights reading.
the man
Chitty is a great professor. People who take his class and **** are those who can't operate a PC. Go to class, pay attention and you'll do well. He is very willing to help and is a very smart guy.
Mr. Chittenden is interested in helping students learn the material.
Tom is great. he is one of the best profs i've had. he's really smart and knows his stuff. a computer genious.
chili pepper dood.
Rough class
He's a great gay and funny. His classes are interesting and you get to use your computer the whole time. His tests are kinda hard but if you study, actually study, you will be fine. P.s. call him Prof. Chitty!
Professor Chittenden is a really engaging guy. He is very passionate about the material and keeping it relevant. Aside from a stimulating class, he looks really sharp with his "technophile steeze." His thumb drive necklace just gives you the chills.
great teacher, very passionate. very helpful. makes you work hard and learn the material.
Hard teacher..but you'll learn a LOT
tom was great i learned a lot. i hear he might not be returning to UVM which would be a shame, he will be missed.
tom was great i learned a lot. i hear he might not be returning to UVM which would be a shame, he will be missed.
I wasn't interested in the course material at but he made it apply to us in order to understand it better. It also helps that I've had a crush on him - dorkishly cute & he looks like Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice! I wonder if his wife looks like Keira Knightly. defo a bsad hottie
tough class but very interactive and you will learn a lot. tc is goofy and also a volunteer firefighter which makes him hot in my book!
Really good teacher. Easy to talk to, and very helpful. Need to commit a lot of time to the class, but if you do its clear. He is alwaysa volunteer firefighter!!
Chittenden is a good guy but not a good professor. He is not even a Professor he is only a lecturer. He forgets that this class is an intro to MIS and just goes crazy with it. I learned some stuff but he believes he is the smartest guy to teach business and is sure to flaunt it. Id have beer with the guy because he is nice but never take his class.
great teacher overall. very passionate about what he's teaching and does an excellent job at explaining the material. a lot of work/reading to do but it is perfect preparation for exams. I would recommend this teacher.
Good teacher, real nice guy. Refreshing to find a prof that seems to still be passionate about his material. Not an easy grade, he'll make you work, but he is intent on being as helpful and responsive as possible. Funny, engaging, but can be pretty paranoid at times. Overall a good, solid, interesting teacher to take in the Biz school
Great guy! So cute! Knows so much about business & technology. Wealth of information!
Very nice guy, always willing to help out. On more than one occasion held study/help sessions on Saturday mornings for students. He is VERY demanding (and somewhat paranoid about cheating) but, overall, he is a very good professor. The work load is alot, but it is similar to all other 040 classes.
Ok, I will say right of the bat that professor Chittenden is a very nice guy before I bash him. He has so many great qualities but because his class is so hard I can not recommend this teacher. We had a hard quiz every class. our class average was below 65. he claimed we werent doing the readings and threatened us w/ a hard exam.class is to hard
way to hard for intro class. quiz every day (hard as hell). class had terrible average. The quizzes were based off of huge readings that he thought we memorized by doing. I will say he was a very nice guy that was always willing to help though. Unfortunately, all the help in the world can't get you a good grade in this class.
Tchitte is a great professor...well at times...YOU HAVE TO ATTEND his class!! he has a pop quiz every class..trust me and they are extremely hard soo read..His exams are almost impossible.
Best professor I have had at UVM. Read the textbook chapters to be prepared for daily quizzes and take notes on his class power points. The Excel homework is difficult but he offers help. Practice with your group for the final project and write a perfect paper....it will help your grade in the end.
I attended UVM last year as a freshman, and he was by far the best professor I had. You come out with A LOT of useful knowledge. His class is demanding, and he expects you to put in the effort however it IS possible to get a good grade. I ended up with an A- and the class did not consume my life. Great Professor!!
Great teacher, very enthusiastic and good sense of Humor. Chitty Bang!!
Nice teacher, his 50 min. lecutures can feel SUPER long though. Quizes everyother class are easy if you do the reading he assigns (the quiz average is low because the textbook chapters are long so people don't read often). But if you read and take good notes (he ALWAYS emphasized important exam worthy points from lecture) its not too hard.
Not only quick understanding and labs in the YETI apotheosis, some subjects under review are not covered extensively. Overall the best teacher ever.
Simply the man. Makes lectures worth attending and covers a lot of material. His material is very much applicable outside the classroom. Probably a bit tough for an intro, but he is by far the best prof I've had at UVM (others I've had don't even come close). Study for pop quizzes and take the class seriously, and you'll really enjoy it.
Great professor. Always willing to help and really appreciates if you take interest in what he teaches outside of class. Class is great because you learn a great amount of invaluable information, and it doesn't hurt that he's always in a great mood.
Professor Chittenden is one of the best professors I have had at UVM. He isn't easy, but his teaching style makes the class fun and the work is doable. I would recommend him to any business major who has to take 141.
Go to class! That's the best advise there is. He has quizzes all the time and it will kill you to miss many of them. Start working on the Excel projects ASAP and go to his help sessions. It's a pretty interesting class but the Excel will kill you if you're not that familiar with it.
Great guy, very helpful and cares a lot about his students. Definitely a tough class to teach, but probably the best person to do it. His passion for the material and understanding of it have made it a great class. I learned a lot.
Good teacher. Difficult class.
Knows what he is talking about but beyond that he is a horrible teacher. He can be very rude and is extremely unwilling to work with you if you have missed a few classes due to illness. So basically be 100% perfect in his class in every way and you MIGHT do okay in the class.
Really didn't enjoy this class. Professor moves very fast and does not respond to emails. Do not take unless you have to or really like teaching yourself excel formulas..
Green IT/Virtualization was a fantastic course. Relevant, engaging content for anyone in MIS or Environmental concentrations. Prof Chittenden was passionate, energetic, funny, and informative during lectures. I recommend him for any class in the business school, but take this one if you can.
He is the best teacher I have ever met. The lecture is clear and helpful. A very nice guy himself, very willing to help students.
My favorite teacher I have ever had, keeps you engaged throughout his lectures and really knows his stuff. Tests are hard but really challenge you to work harder so you really know the material. Without a doubt inspired me to stick with business
Although I had heard he was a good teacher, after taking the class I was proven wrong. He definitely knows what he is talking about, but he goes through the material way too fast. He gives way to many pop quizzes. He gives 2-3 hours of work for each class which adds up with all of the other classes you have to take. Also exams are really hard.
I loved this class. Yes, there was about a chapter maybe once every week but it was one of the easiest and useful textbooks I have had to read. 20 minutes a night, tops. If you know the basics of excel and are good with computers there is no reason to get below a B+
The class is great, but very hard. He is always there for support, but he struggles to present the information in a clear manner. The textbook was the worst part of the class hands down!
it was a really good course
Tom clearly cares about his students and wants people to succeed. He puts a lot of work into his courses and would like you to do the same.
Chitty goes quite fast in class. A lot of Microsoft Excel in this course, which I found difficult, but very useful. HOWEVER- if you need help, he is always willing, and will go much more at your pace in office hours. He was great like that. I thought this was such a cool course, def had to work hard though. Very fair grader.
Mr. Chittenden was not only very enthusiastic about this course and the inherent practicality and usefulness of the content, but about his life and his career (inside and outside of UVM) as well. His enthusiasm was instilled in his teaching mannerisms subsequently making the class very enjoyable and interesting.
Gives quizzes for almost every reading but the quizzes are so specific that you get the same grade whether or not you read. The course is highly disorganized and he changes deadlines a lot that make it difficult to stay on top of readings.
Makes lectures worth attending but moves very fast through material, giving 2-3 hours of work for each class. Didn't answer any of of my emails, and exams were extremely difficult. Also gives a lot of pop quizzes which are hard to keep up with.
He is a great prof and all things taught are relevant to class even on his side rants he ties it back into the lecture. He is good with real world application and a very useful class for the real world. If he is an option for a prof, take him. You won't be upset
Chitty is AWESOME! Great guy, great professor, great lecturer. Go to class and pay attention because you will learn a lot and he will keep you engaged. Expects a lot out of his students but you will do well if you do what he asks. He is very good with computers and he knows it. Definitely recommend taking 141 with chitty if you can.
Smart. Works VERY hard for students. Committed to classroom experience. Always available. One of best teachers at UVM. Deserves his chili rating.
amazing guy with an great sense of humor
cool guy
Good guy. The exams mainly draw off of very specific textbook material.
Very punctual - lectures start exactly when scheduled. Quick quizzes each week on the textbook - a must-read, as he also uses Connect with problems only covered in the textbook. Energetic and entertaining in lectures, self-depreciating jokes, tries to make you think and learn. Provided excellent help at office hours. Highly enjoyable, very nice.
Only did this rating to give him the hotness rating
Professor Chittenden is lit. v cute and tries to be funny. his classes are tough but if u do the homework youll be alright.
Professor Chittenden is a great lecturer. He tries to be funny and keep the lectures light and entertaining. Make sure you keep up to date and do the readings because there are a lot of quizzes. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in his lectures then the class is easy. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed.
Adorable man! At first I was like no... but then I was like YASSS BOO!!
Professor Chittenden is awesome and very fair in his grading. It is made clear for you what is fair game for not only every test but every quiz as well. If you feel something was graded unfairly he is more than happy to have a discussion about it and give back points as deemed fair. Attend class and read the text book.
great guy and great classes. he wants to see his students pass
Chitt is great professor. One of the best I've had while in the business school. His classes are entertaining and as long as you study for exams you will be fine.
Great guy, even better Professor. Works himself half-to-death to provide for South Burlington and the school. His character for being a family man has him teaching more like a revered father figure. Take his course. Learn the future. He tries his best to be constantly available - help will be given but you must ask.
Recommended
If anyone says this class is difficult or unfair they weren't even trying. He gives classes once a week on the same day AND REMINDS YOU. If you don't study he gives you the answers in his lecture. Really nice guy. Makes the materials real-life applicable with life anecdotes. If you ask he helps. PS Prof. chill with the evals, use 1+ example please
Show up, listen, do your work, you'll do fine
Professor Chittenden is the absolute man. His stories about current information technology involving his family/personal life are hilarious and bring to life the course concepts. Overall, going to class really helps understanding and determine what concepts he finds important and will result in good grades quizzes, tests, and other assignments.
Chitty is a great guy that will do whatever it takes to ensure you learn the material. He is very transparent. If he says something is a key point there's a very good chance it will be on the exam.
Chitty is an awesome professor. He makes a relevant topic interesting when it should be boring. He also has a great attitude and sense of his students' collective stress level and will do things to lighten their load.
Professor Chittenden presents content-rich lectures full of humor and real-life application. Have had him for 2 courses. Best professor I have had in the Grossman School of Business.
Too few people realize how important the info professor Chittenden shares is. It's rather sad to see a total death of MIS at UVM, especially for the people that came to UVM for the Thomas Chittenden's of this world. I really wish that people realized how important data security and governance is. Professor Chitteden is an amazing professor.
Big fan of big Tom! Nice guy who makes some great dad jokes and keeps the class entertained. Class time seems a little short to cover all the material so make sure you read/outline the textbook outside of class.
As a professor Thomas Chittenden provides students with great feedback and direction. Shows the managerial benefits of database technology.
Take a class with Tom Chittenden before you graduate. His tests are fair, the readings aren't excessive, and I found myself WANTING to go to his lectures. If you skip class sometimes, it's no big deal. Just be prepared for two things: 1) pop quizzes and 2) a very specific sense of humor that doesn't always translate for every class.
Good professor! Always patiently answers our questions and gives extra credits in some way.
Your experience at UVM is incomplete if you don't take a class with professor Thomas. He brings the class to life and is very engaging. One of the smartest faculty at UVM's Business school.
He is a good professor and he can answer all the questions in the office hour. He has quiz in every class. You need review the course every day.
Great Teacher! 147 did have many different readings but most were interesting and not that long. Tests were fair and even with a 3 hour lecture at 8:55am I still enjoyed going to class.
Had very engaging lectures. Talked a little fast but it kept me from getting bored through a 3 hour lecture. He was understanding of student needs. Expectations were clear and not too much.
this guy is a straight up legend
great professor, gives you the opportunity to better yourself if he feels like you're failing.
T Chittenden is arguably one of the best and most enjoyable teachers in Grossman. The class is of moderate difficulty, but if you show up and do your homework you really should have no problem in this class. Chitty will always be willing to admit his mistakes and give credit on tests & quizzes, something many prof. would never have the ego to do.
Chittenden is one of the best professors I've had here at UVM. He is very knowledgable about all of the material he teaches and is always willing to give back points on tests if a student challenges the answer. He is one of the most fair and grounded professors I know, plus he has a great sense of humor. 100% would recommend taking his class.
Great professor! His class is very engaging and if you're not doing so great he gives you the opportunity to fix your grade! funny jokes, great man! I definitely would sit to take his class again if I had to.
Chittenden is great. This class is tough, and he gets that. Extra credit, free points through hw, exam curves. Great lectures, tough exams and quizzes but they're interesting. Class takes work but Chittenden has our best interests in mind. He knows it's hard and wants to help. You should definitely attend class and do hw- could get a good grade.
One of my favorite classes while at UVM. Met one of my best friends in his class and got an internship thanks to him, so I owe Chitty a lot. He is sensible, fair, and easy-going. Don't think that means you can slack off in his class. A great balance of challenging and enjoyable.
Prof. Chittenden is a really funny and great professor, just teaching a fairly boring class. But he somehow manages to make it more interesting. Grade is based on many different things, which makes a good grade very achievable. Multiple extra credit opportunities
He was the best teacher I've had at UVM. He cares about his students and is respected greatly. He knows what he's talking about. If you put the time in by doing the readings and paying attention in class then you'll do fine. I wish more teachers were like him with an understanding teaching process.
A real G. Loves giving points back
Gives a lot of homework on a platform called SimNet but its ultimately really helpful. He's really accessible outside of class and is very willing to help you. He makes a lot of dad jokes and is overall a really great teacher
Super nice and relatable. I feel like hes the dad of the business school. Class is interesting and actually useful which isnt always the case in gsb.
He enjoys what he does and really wants his students to learn and succeed. He does his best to make his lectures interesting since the topic isn't the most fun. Make sure to do all the Simnet reading and homework if you want to do well in the class. He is very approachable and accessible outside of class. He's a solid professor and a great guy.
There is a lot of homework and a lot of quizzes so be prepared for that and make sure you are on time for class. Overall a good professor.
Ahh Chitty. A great man. A better class dad. The material was pretty difficult in my opinion and I honestly really don't like IT but he's funny as hell and made learning tech bearable for sure.
Chittenden is the best. He engages his students and IT enjoyable.
Professor Chittenden has by far been one of my favorite teachers in Grossman. I have taken 3 classes in time as a student at UVM. There are weekly quizzes that engages students into the reading and tests are fair. There are 2 part exams that are application based and written. Highly recommend this Professor!
Understanding simple concepts leads to success, the tests are a bit longer than necessary but this just means the broad range of questions are pretty easy to answer so long as you weren't born in a cave. Class isn't mandatory but I've been told it was useful to go to (I didn't go to a single class). If you're struggling, go to class!
Very entertaining
Very passionate and caring professor who cares dramatically about his teaching abilities and strives to be better for his students. He would make the boring material of technology and excel and somehow made it fun and exciting. He would crack funny jokes to try and lighten the mood and even made class synchronous so we could attend the UVM hockey G
Easy class and easy material. Lots of homework but Professor Chittenden accepts late work, and the material may be dull but he tries his best to make it as interesting as possible. Students that do badly in this class simply just don't go to the lectures. He clearly states key points and details in class so go to class.
There was a lot of dull content to learn, but he made the content as interesting as possible and had great humor. Has lots of opportunities for students to receive good grades and is not strict about late work. Overall, best professor I have taken so far!
This guy is great. i barley passed the class but somehow i still like and respect him. you just have to pay attention to the lectures and go to TA office hours
He's a decent professor but designs the class in a way that is extremely difficult for most students. Very nice guy but does not care about the success of the students.
He is a good professor, and he you can tell he really enjoys teaching. The year I took him, it was a 200 person lecture at night which made the class difficult. He does weekly "pop" quizzes which are easy if you go to class. This class teaches very useful skills but the way it was taught in a big night class was not fun.
Professor Thomas makes a potentially boring subject interesting with humor and passion. The class has useful skills, but can be tricky in a large lecture setting. unstuck AI was a game-changer for studying and prep.
Decent professor but got a little annoyed and sick of him after a while as lectures are kind of hard to pay attention to bc the content is very boring, but he does try to add his humor and light into it. The amount of quizzes are very annoying, and the class is very tempting to skip but missing a lot of quizzes can hurt a lot.
He was chill and a fun guy, bit of a yapper though
Prof. Chittenden is very caring and makes an effort to keep the class engaged in his lectures. Although the material is boring, you have to make sure to pay attention because you can get lost easily. There was a lot of homework for this class, but tests are fairly graded and he gives partial credit.
His lectures are very long and not very helpful. His tests are the same, you need to know the material front and back, and understand Excel and Access.
Professor Chittenden has a talent for making a very boring and unintuitive subject approachable. His expectations are very clear from assignments to exams. He is responsive and understanding no matter the scenario. As long as you put in the effort, you're passing his courses.
Thomas is a great dude. Tries his best to make the content interesting and is extremely understanding and makes the tests very understandable as long as youre keeping up with the content. Make sure you do the readings. The quizzes (Which happen every other class) can tank your final grade if you dont perform well. Regardless, would take him again
The content is really confusing and boring in the homework but he makes it entertaining and come alive during his lectures. He tries to keep everyone engaged by using really bad dad jokes. Overall, he's a great guy and good at teaching; I learned a lot from him.
He is a very fair professor who made Excel something I actually enjoyed learning
Homework was a little heavy but if you do it all and come to class its easy to get an 80+ on the tests and quizzes.
light class, really mostly just common sense stuff, with some stuff thats a little difficult if you don't really understand computers super well. Go to class mostly, he has a quiz every other class and if you just pay a little attention they're easy grade boosters.
Lectures can be boring and some of the projects and homework gets confusing. But, it's pretty manageable. Chittenden is an incredibly smart professor who cares about helping you learn
Mr. Chittenden is a great professor, tests were challenging, but just study and you'll be fine. There were a ton of quizzes, and they were harder than the tests, but my underwhelming scores did not really hurt my grade. For future students I would recommend not relying on AI for the open part of the exams because as of now, it led students astray.
