Really nice guy but grades hard and picks really hard books to read and write about.

his class isn't hard at all.picks an array of novels that are interesting.you can just get cliff notes exceot for the last novel. his class consists of 4 essays, midterm & final essay & quizzes.his class is easy unless your too dumb to write.

His a good teacher and he means well, but damn his grading system really sucks. His novels are confusing sometimes, but he trys his best to explain them. Oh yeh, and his class is extremely boring most of the time.

He is interesting, good books, are though some are too hard and the class gets lost. Very energetic. Highly recommended!

It was a hard class but he is a really cool prof. He knows what he is talking about and he makes sure that you know what he is talking about. Which is good considering the hard books he picks.

He's a really great teacher. He taught me a lot. I took two english classes with him and he has been a great mentor.

not too hard if you just pay attention and try.. the only bad part about his class were the damn quizzes the books about mariners. but we got him to realize not everyone likes boat stories at least.

Anyone who complains this class is too hard needs to go back to highschool. Im not even sure if i spelled highschool right, and i'm getting an A in his class. He completely explains every book that you read, and makes sure you understand it before you write your essay. I'll try to get him next tri.

Prof Cody is so awesome. I loved his class.. it was my favorite. He explains exactly what he expects from you.. he even walks u through the essays!! how easy is that! he is great & understanding. Even though I screwed up with him, he still cut me a break and for that i am sooo thankful to him!! :)

One of the best English teachers i have ever had without his class i would be unable to get through the classes needed to become a English major. Take him and you wil actually learn how to interpret and write about literature easily. He was also very funny.

He is ok but the only thing i dont like about him is that he always gives a test on the same day an essay is due :< , Im already up all night doing the essay and then I have to worry about a test the same day. But other than thad he is cool.

Great teacher. He's extremely enthusiastic, and picks books with a theme that he ties together throughout the semester. The papers are really easy because he tells you exactly what he wants, but lets you give whatever analysis you want. I loved him.

Fun, intelligent, very approachable. Lays out the course criteria clearly and gives great tips on writing good papers. If you like English at all, you'll love him. If not (like most of you), at least try to get some reading done ahead of time because you'll be hard pressed towards the end (extra book for hons). But that's just how it is. Good luck.

I LOVED CODY!!!! he was the best. he really taught me how to write more concise. He also revealed the "secret" to writing an A paper..which i found to be GOLD. I loved the books that we read in this class. They all have a separate theme that tie together at the end of the semester. This truly is a critical thinking class, however Cody does most of the thinking for you. It's hard to get used to how he wants the essays but once you do its easy to get an A with the regurgitation of what he says in class.

Comes off as a very professional teacher. I thought he was very interesting to listen to. Don't miss any work though. One missed assignment can kill your grade with the scale he uses.

Professor Cody is the best english teacher I have ever had. He will help anyone with their papers, and gives extremely helpful comments on each paper. The classes are relatively easy- he tells you exactly what to write. I don't understand why anyone would hate his class. As long as you have the ability to read, you should be fine.

Very energetic. Funny. Essays are not hard at all. Gives interesting books to read. He swears alot, but it didn't bother me. I recommend this guy, he's great. His lectures are what you make of it, I recommend participating in class, it's how you'll get the most out of the lectures and you wouldn't feel like falling asleep

Cody is very funny, helpful, and straight forward. However his lectures can get a bit boring, so participate! YOU MUST READ THE BOOKS HE ASSIGNS, otherwise you WON'T PASS- GUARANTEED. Quizzes are VERY important- they make or break your grade. Teaches you more than just the material, but things about life too. Definitely take him :]

Cody is nice, and cool. However his essays and books can become a pain in the ass!. The reading quizes will screw you over. don't take unless you are a good reader and open minded to boring novels. other than that he is a good teacher and passionate about English. He also swears sometimes.

Honestly the best english teacher i have ever had. The class discussions are fun and you learn SO MUCH. If you are an english major or want to actually learn and get better at writing....take his class. absolutely incredible teacher! The essays aren't bad at all and he is always willing to help. Seriously, just TAKE HIM.

I would not suggest taking Cody. He does not want you to think and only gives grades based on what he wants you to say. His reading quizzes screw your grade over and I did better reading spark notes than listen to him.

He's a great guy, but the class wasn't all that great. He tells you exactly what to put in the essays and if you make the slightest change he lowers your grade. The quizzes are extremely difficult. The good thing is you really don't need to show up to class. I feel most class time was wasted going over the same information every day.

Very nice guy and decent teacher. HOWEVER, the class does not require critical thinking because he thinks for you. The essays are easy, IF you do and think exactly what he wants you to think. IF NOT then you get a lower grade. Reading quizzes are extremely important, do not use sparks notes. I LIKED HIM BUT CANT HONESTLY SAY ID RECOMMEND HIM.

This professor is one of the best professors I've had in my time at EC. Contrary to what people say, he does not tell you how to think. If your opinion is different from his then have the courage to challenge it and discuss it with him before your paper is due. Don't wait until the night before the paper is due. That's what office hours are for!

Pr. Cody is one of the best teachers I've had during my time at El Camino. I can definately say I learned to write better after taking his class b/c we have a template for our essays b/c we can repeat what he said in class in our essay..saying that, I would recommend taking him when we're first learning to become a better essay writer.

He is a fantastic teacher and should be a professor at a university. It's alot of work, and alot of analyzing--but it's super interesting and i learned actual life lessons. Be careful though he's super atheist and pushes that on you alot

Cody is an awesome prof. He is very clear about what you should include in the essays but this does not mean you are limited to only his opinions. If you have a dif. pont of view voice it out. Great class discussions. Quizzes are only hard if you dont read. Very helpful. Great teacher, you will have fun in this class.

Great Pro. I have taken his 1A and 1C* classes and look forward to taking 1B over the summer followed by American Lit in the fall. He obviously enjoys what he teaches which easy to follow and participate in. Cody is very helpful inside/outside of class. You must be present for class or you will not pass.

INTERESTING CLASS...READING IS A MUST..ESSAY TOPICS ARE SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO WRITE ABOUT..DEF NOT YOUR TYPICAL EASY WRITING CLASS..HOWEVER, IT IS NOT EASY TO GET AN 'A' IN THE CLASS.

Pretty good teacher, although essays topics are a little hard to write about at times but as long as you attend class every meeting, you'll understand what he expects you to write about it. He also requires students to read a few books since that's what the essays are about. I'd recommend him if you're up for a bit of a challenge and a good writer.

This guy is awesome. Highly recommended for English majors. He really engages you in the material, and he is very enthusiastic about literature. Easy enough class, as long as you READ. The quizzes on reading are what determines your grade the most, so again, just make sure you read. Enjoyable class though.

A really nice guy and crystal clear in what you have to do so it's basically your fault if you fail. This is coming from an English major too because I don't want to seem bias. His questions on quizzes and the mid-term/final aren't obscure or only for the student more inclined to interpretation of literature. Very good professor.

Prof. Cody is simply phenomenal and v.helpful!I'm an engineering major and did not know if I would do well (I am always in doubt of my essay writing skills-especially literature!)He made learning a breeze and I got a high A and enjoyed the class! Quizzes based on READING make up a LARGE PART of the grade.The rest is 1 midterm,Final and a few essays

Best teacher at El Camino. All you have to do is read the books (we read 8 in 40B, and 5 in 1C), and follow directions; he basically tells you how to write the essay and what to write about. He makes you want to come to class. He teaches from an atheist perspective, so be prepared if you're religious. I'm religious, and I still liked his class, even though I disagree with almost everything he teaches. He prepares you for university level writing, so be ready to actually learn in this class. You should get an 'A' or 'B' if you read the books and write what he tells you to write on the essays.

He is my all time favorite professor. His classes are really fun and he has a great sense of humor. He will help you if you don't understand the books and his class is fairly easy. Make sure to read the books and do well on the quizzes. His essay assignments are kind of hard, but he seriously helps you become a better writer. TAKE HIM!

You need to stay on top of the reading to do well in the class, no question about it. But Professor Cody is also very helpful and clear about what he wants on your papers. If you write well in general, this professor is for you.

A very good teacher, who makes it clear what he expects from you ahead of time. Walks you through the papers ahead of time, and if you follow these ideas you will get a high grade. From my experience as long as you express your opinions well and support your arguments, he won't detract from your grade. Good for improving your essay writing skills.

Just remember that you are signing up for a thorough professor. This guy moves quick, but does an excellent job moving through the content covered. Come to class every day and take notes (just like any other class) and pay close attention to what he wants on the essays. You will need to read the books since he gives quizzes

Took him for 1C, he's a cool person but this class is boring!! Also you must read! Books are long and boring which is typical..He's a hard grader on essays too. Prepare to work hard if you take him!

This man is an intellectual mind master. I remember this class long after- 23 years ago. I still have my paper comparing the movie blade runner to 1984. You have to be vocally involved and read. English is about reading! This class tought me free-thought, critical thinking and logic where you wouldn't think it existed. Excellent course!

Hands down best professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking a class from. This class is no joke, if you are not a strong writer do not take this course. I received an A, but, worked extremely hard to earn it! Professor Cody should be teaching at UCLA or Berkeley!

Cody's a nice guy. He's happy to answer questions and his lectures aren't boring. Class discussions often involve what students are interested in. There's quite a bit of reading and writing. On the bad side, much of his personal grading criteria is inapplicable elsewhere, so your comprehensive writing skills won't get a big boost from his class.

My decision to take Professor Cody was a sound one. He hand picks the material so that it all ties together to form a theme. He does tend to jump around quite a bit, but it is all in an effort to get his point across. Like I said, the material is great and it is imperative you read it as he assigns it, preferably even before. Stay in the loop!

His curriculum for English 1A and Enligsh 1C is tailored to perfection so everything you've learned from each book you've read all comes together and makes sense/reinforces the theme of the course. Cody is super cool.

Prof Cody is the best professor I've had throughout my entire college experience. His lectures are inspirational and enlightening, and he teaches the novels in a way that applies their messages to real life, but not in a corny way. It's seriously eye-opening. His lesson plans all flow and each book leads into another. Super smart, super awesome.

Hands down one of the best professors I've had at El Camino. He is a great lecturer and is very passionate about what he is teaching. Overall a really caring professor. You have a total of 6 papers for the semester. 2 of which are in-class essays. Those 2 essays are the mid-term and final. He grades tougher on the typed papers. Also, do the READING

Cody is an amazing professor. You must read the books for the quiz's. The quiz's are really easy though as long as you read the books. He tells you what he expects from your essay and he also tells you what quotes to use. Very helpful .

Professor Cody is funny and really cares for his students ! He will support you if you really struggle in English ! He is very understanding and a easy grader ! You just know the basic grammar lessons in order to pass

Professor Cody is THE BEST. He is such a great teacher and is passionate about what he does. Took the online class and he was very specific about his expectations. Do the reading assignments ( easy reads) and you'll do just fine. If you have questions, he's more than happy to help. He basically gives you the outline to your papers.

Cody has made me reflect on CC and I'm delighted to have chosen this path. He is passionate about his class and truly cares for the subject. With remote learning, Cody has proven to be adaptive and is organized and clear on homework, exercises, and papers. He provides his time, feedback and is very kind & flexible with assignments at times. 10/10!

Cody is a great professor. He makes his lectures super light-hearted and engaging. Make sure to read the books to do well on the quizzes. As for the essays, he gives you an exact outline for what he wants you to write. As long as you follow his instructions, it's an easy A! If you have the option, take his class :)

I had Professor Cody for ENG1C H and he taught it wonderfully. We began in person however went online. I found his in person lectures and discussions wonderful, they really help you understand the assigned texts. Papers weren't that tough, but you do need to know your stuff. He was a funny guy, I'd love to take another course taught by him.

Super accessible and excited to answer questions, he's in love with this job and it shows. Be prepared to read a lot, and pay attention to the lectures. Most of your grade is based on essays and he goes over the outline and some quotes during class. He likes discussion, too.

This man could not have made this class any easier. He would literally give us all the information we ever needed for almost all the homework and assignments. He also talked about his personal life from time to time to keep us entertained. He wanted us to really enjoy the class and always gave us second chances for homework as well.

Cody is the GOAT! A lot of reading and writing, but that may have been amplified by the fact that I was in an honors course. His lectures are engaging, easy to understand, and very helpful for writing your essays. He's friendly, informative, and passionate about his content and his students' success. I seriously can't recommend him enough.

His lectures are anything BUT boring, he is really entertaining. But, don't think you can skip readings - there aren't that many, but every part of the class is based on a couple books & readings. Not much homework, grades are just reading and essays, with a few quizzes.

Gives amazing feedback on all essays, and grades fair. Lectures are SO ENTERTAINING. Just make sure you participate. Skip class and you won't know how to write the papers. He literally tells you what he wants in class versus Canvas. For an honors class, it was pretty low stress than my other regular classes. 10/10 recommend for an honors course.

Professor Cody is an amazing professor. He's caring about his students and gives helpful feedback. He's a bit of a talker during lectures but it's never boring. He's a fair grader and is more than happy to help when needed. If you're thinking about taking this class then be ready to participate, its more engaging for him and he'll love it.

I want to say this firstly professor talks a lot! So get ready for lectures, weekly quizzes make up most of your grade. There are 5 questions, however, you can't see what you got wrong and some questions are broad; making it confusing after all each reading is long and winding. Most of the time he won't even go over the quiz, so good luck.

Veru fun in lectures and entertaining. There are no textbooks everything is on canvas, but it is a lot of reading. He tells you the structure and topics for each paragraph for essays. Very helpful, ASK if you need help. Go to class, you will miss out on many small details for assignments. Overall not very hard, just do the assignments!!

Professor Cody's lectures are engaging and his guidance on essay writing is super helpful. The class has a lot of reading, but using unstuckstudy and keeping up with the textbook makes it manageable. Overall, a great course with a passionate professor.
