His class isn't too easy, but he's one of the better math teachers I've had in my lifetime. Makes things pretty clear.
I love captain crock!! but for now his math homework is online, which can be difficult because you have to enter it just right. He is hilarious!! i laught the entire class
Good Teacher. Knows Math. Wants everyone to do well as long as they try. Willing to help, but it's still tough
Crock is really easy but crazy. He has people call him Captain Crock. Weird? And he talks funny on purpose. His homework is ridiculous - it's online and it never works. And we get points taken off for the system being down.
Captain Crock was my fav teacher fall semester. he really loved math and loved teaching it. he was all about teaching us math and not about the universitys political crap!! he's awesome take his class!!!
This man is a total trip. He makes math entertaining somehow. However, he assigns TONS of homework and his tests are hard, though he grades them on a huuuuge curve to your advantage.

Biggest jerk I ever met in my life. Doesn't know how to teach and is extremely unfair. Prefers some students over others. NEEDS TO RETIRE!!!SOON

I thought he was awesome. He makes really dry jokes that just cracked me up. If your good at math, take him, if not, find another professor. He's hard to follow if you don't know what's going on.

He is very unclear and gives the old fashion dito's insteed of photo copies for worksheets and you cant read his handwritting also he takes at least 2 weeks to grade a test and he changed the way he say the words plus and caluacter Last and thejoke he tells are not funny and no one laughs but him!!
Horrible teacher. Decided that he wanted to teach differently than what the department asked him to teach, so we had to take his final as well as the math department final. We didnt know anything on the department final. Final started at 4pm lasted until 9:30pm because of 2 finals. UNFAIR and BAD!
I suck at math however the Captain was motivational. The assignments, though lengthy, are helpful in learning. The tests are challenging but graded on a large curve. The Captain makes himself available if you need help. If you are lazy, don't take this class, however if you want to learn and are willing to put in the time, the Captain is the man.
If you don't like homework, don't take this class. I've been in the class for 3 weeks and the homework is killer. He may assign only 30 problems but each has an a,b,c,d, and e. He gives very few examples that really don't relate to the homework. If you don't feel like working hard in a math class definatley do not take this class.
I took his class to fulfill a requirement. Ditos are hard to read, his examples are kind of hard to follow once you try them on your own. If you have him, and aren't all that strong in math, pray that you get a good TA. Also, if you take the night class, you will not get out on time, he always ran over usually 10 - 45 minutes (45 was when we had tests).
I loved Captain Crock!I hate math and am horrible at it but he honestly cared about us passing the class. If you make an effort he will help you and you will at least get a 'C'. Also he is super funny. I laughed at his jokes I thought it made class way more enjoyable. If you need this class take this teacher he was probably my favorite at Pitt.
RULES!
Just an extremely decent person. He went out of his way for any student who tried.
Oh captain, my captain! Capt. Crock is hilarious and totally helpful if you ever need to email him for something. The homework load is astounding though, I've never had so much pile up on me so fast.
Captain Crock is the better of the math teachers at Pitt. Night classes suck but the good grade and minimal work load is preferred!
Never had him for class. TW Crock was my boy scout leader. It is kinda funny when he gets mad
this prob teaches at ccac south on sundays and he is horrible! he showed up 15-25 minutes late every week and didn't fully explain anything. he was never available outside of class to help and he taught his own "style" instead of the book style. i would NEVER recommend him to anyone-- especially if you struggle in math.
Would not recommend. I was in the Sunday class and he was late for EVERY class at least 10-45, yes 45, minutes!! Terrible and he gave ALOT of difficult homework and his tests were VERY HARD!!
This course was hard work for brain candy! The textbook is very engaging. Prof. Crock is demanding but very supportive; just about perfect in patience, giving opportunities to make up or finish work or tests. I am healed of a lifelong aversion to ideas mathematical.
College Algebra could be really hard or you could take Capt Crock and sail away on a ship of delirium during his lectures towards a B, as long as you do your homework.
Capt. Crock cured me of my mathphobia. I loved his dry sense of humor and corny jokes! Definitely the best math professor I've ever had. Would highly recommend to math-averse students looking for an unpretentious, understanding teacher with a good sense of humor. Aye, Aye Captain!
Captain makes math fun. His sense of humor make the class worth going to. But don't go into class thinking that his humor and leniency being means you won't learn anything. I've learned more math in Captains class than I have in 12 years of schooling. And, for the first time, I actually enjoy it.
I made the mistake of taking Beverly Michael's class as a freshman and she made me afraid of math. Capt Crock makes learning fun and interesting and tells jokes throughout class. He's an awesome guy and knows his stuff. The quizzes and tests aren't bad and the work load is fair. Take Capt Crock's class - trust me!
He's a pretty good guy. For non-math majors this class is going to suck, just..always, but he makes the class as painless as possible. There's a fair amount of homework, but it isn't unreasonable, and he makes the tests as decent as possible while still making sure you learn the material. take him!
Captain Crock is the man! I personally don't enjoy math whatsoever, but his class wasn't bad at all. Be ready for LOTS of corny jokes (especially about sailing) but if you just laugh, the class really goes by quickly. Definitely go to lecture so you know what you're doing. Do the homework!! There's a lot of it, but you get a while to do it.
Captain Crock is hands down the greatest professor I have ever had. I really struggled with math and he helped me so much. He's hilarious and a an amazing person. He will do whatever it takes to help his students honestly succeed and understand the material!!
He was approachable and extremely helpful. Crock is a wonderful teacher.
Love his class!! Love the corny jokes!! He is a great guy that seems to love math :) hope i can take his math 090 class next semester!!
He is a very good teacher at ccac, he makes comming to class early in the am interestung
He is such a good teacher! He's a little late ever day but he always comes in with a funny story to why he is late. DEFF take him if ou have a choice!!
Captain Crock is awesome! He's really lenient about quizzes, and helps by grading easy. He does his best to make it easy with the minimal flexibility Beverly Michael's actually gives him. Besides which, he's funny(a bit cheesy, but still). Definitely take him instead of her.
very nice, very funny, very down to earth, and makes the topic comprehensible. grading is fair, if even a little easy. hard to fail with crock, especially if he sees you are trying.
Crocks the best teacher ever, and hes a Buccos Fan!!!!!!!!
He's very helpful. Anything he can do to help you, he will. Great teacher. The very first math class I actually understood and didn't hate my life while I was there.
He is a really good teacher !! :-)
Captain is the best. I am AWFUL at math and squeezed a C out of that class. He is the only math teacher I've ever had that has gotten me anywhere close to understanding the material. He's lenient, understanding, helpful, smart, hilarious. If you're bad at math and have to take it, you HAVE to take Captain. So laid back
I loved taking Capt. Crock's section of 0025. He really tries to help everyone pass and is very understanding. Made math easy for me as a "math anxious" student. Definitely take him if you're just trying to meet the Algebra requirement!!!
Very entertaining lectures even for those who dislike math. Cool guy and a fair grader. Be sure to keep up with the online homework and you'll do fine!
Captain is very easy and entertaining! Most of the homework is online, but it's not difficult. Keep up with the homework and briefly look over the notes before a test and you'll get an easy A.
He is very entertaining, and he is also very helpful. He has a passion for math, and is very good at what he does. His schedule is overloaded, and he is a teacher they should hire on perm at one institution because he is that good, and valuable of an asset. I would prefer to take another one of his classes.
Great Prof. Very funny, Not boring, Loves to teach you about math, and shares a common interest to take care of his students. He will go out of his way to help you. He is very busy due to part time teaching at many colleges, but he is very responsive to communications outside of class. Great guy in all, do the work, pass tests and your good.
Really good professor, understands that students in MATH0025 are only there because the university requires it and teaches accordingly. Ask him for help and he'll do all he can to increase your understanding. Would recommend for students who aren't math-oriented.
Captain Crock is the best! He's really understanding and you can tell he has a passion for teaching. I loved coming to his class because his jokes are so corny you cant help but laugh. If you need a math credit take Captain! just keep up with the online homeworks and attend recitation and you will be fine.
Great guy, great professor. HIGHLY recommended for students who dislike math. He just wants to make sure you pass, also very understanding about missing class, exams, etc. He lets you make up exams.
Captain Crock is the best teacher ever! Made math one of my favorite classes. All the comments about him are correct! As long as you do the wiley, you will be fine. As corny as his jokes were, they still made me laugh. He was one of my favorite teachers and made my first semester at college a great one. Take him if you can!
captain crock is a really nice prof who wants everyone to do well, take this course if you're not confident with math skills-but, it is a college course and it's more difficult than people would think. keep up with online homework and paper homework, he drops lowest quiz, and there are only 2 exams and 1 final. he gets off track a lot/arrives late
The online math homework is so freaking annoying, I'm talking thouands of pointless problems. Crock is simple but kind of annoying. That's life though. It's algebra, so its really not that hard to pass even with minimum effort.
Literally the coolest dude. I hate math with a passion and he made it an enjoyable experience. Super funny dude who knows that no one there really loves math. He really wants everyone to pass and is concerned about your grades. Passionate about teaching and tries to get the class into it. Take Captain Crock!
O Captain my Captain! He's seriously great to have if you, like me, hate math. He loves it and teaches you to at least like it. He can be corny, but he's so good-natured you can't help but smile. As for the previous reviews that mention him being late, it all depends on how packed his schedule is. He teaches a lot of places and runs around.
He was a great prof
Funny guy, very nice, easy class.
There aren't many tests in this class but get ready to do A LOT of homework questions. I'm talking hundreds and hundreds of questions online that take hours to do. If you keep up with the homework it's not a difficult class, but if you fall behind on the online homework, be prepared to get stressed out.
His lectures are easy to understand and not particularly difficult, but missing a class does put you behind as the syllabus moves at a relatively quick pace. He is very willing to answer questions and emails outside of class time, and no question is not worth his time. The online homework is a little ridiculous, but not his fault.
I'm not crazy about math, but Prof Crock put it into terms that I could understand and that I genuinely enjoyed. I think he is hilarious and he is always willing to help, just an excellent guy all around. Take him if you can!
I love this guy. He makes stupid jokes and trails off a lot but I always found it amusing. There was wayyyyyyyyyy too much homework but it gets you prepared for the tests. Honestly, he just wants you to pass and he'll make sure of it if you do the work.
Captain Crock was a fantastic teacher. I am not skilled in math and he made it very easy to understand and it seemed like the class was set up for us to do well. The online homework is a hassle, but if you work hard, you will do well.
He is a nice man and wants you to pass, however gets very off topic and the questions on the exams are harder than the in class examples. He give A TON of online homework (like thousands of problems not exaggerating) which is very stressful and time consuming especially for a class geared towards students who aren't particularly good at math.
He means well and all that but seriously 1100 problems online alone is just too much.
Gave over 1161 homework problems. There's never a time you won't be stressed about the Wiley plus online homework. But in the end he gives lots of extra credit. Very stressful class and tons of work.
This class has A LOT of online homework, but other than that it is fairly easy. Mr. Crock is super nice and caring! He wants everyone to do well, and will help as much as possible. I only went to class once or twice out of the three days a week and am doing fine, but it took this because I'm not a math major. Simple if math isn't your thing.
Online homework is tedious but it helps your grade. He's a very nice guy who knows math isn't your best subject. If you put in the effort, you'll do well in the class. I failed MATH0031 and got a B in this class so if I can do it, you can. Plus he curves so that helps out too
Interesting guy to say the least. He makes so many dad jokes and ship references, as well as calls himself "Captain". But he's honestly a great guy and his tests are not hard. Take him if you just need a math class to take. Homework is tedious but stay on top of it and you'll be fine.
I really liked Dr. Crock. He's really disorganized and gives a ton of homework but means well and is willing to help you whenever you need it. Truly, he goes out of his way. If you keep up with the online homework and go to class, you will get a good grade. If you're taking math 25, he's a good choice
Captain Crock is one of the best math professors you can get. If you never had algebra before, he makes it easy. He cares a lot and loves to tell stories during class. Overall, Crock is one of the best professors I have had. He's always ready to help even though he has about 6 jobs.
wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much homework. made me want to drop out of college. you will regret not doing better on the math act/sat and contemplate your existence if you take this class.
Best math teacher Ive ever had. Would 100% recommend
Captain Croc is a really nice guy. He wants you to pass and he makes sure you do. If people complain about too much homework it just means they didn't keep up. It isn't absurd at all and he extends the deadlines if you just email him (even AFTER homework is due). The tests are incredibly easy. If you fail the class you're not trying. He's great.
Honestly the nicest professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about your grade and will do whatever he can to make sure you don't fail. Yeah theres a lot of homework but it helps you learn
He's one of the most likable people I have ever met. He's super hilarious and manages to make math fun, but I spent my weekend before finals week doing literally 500 math problems instead of studying for tests. But If you HAVE to take algebra like I did, he makes it almost bearable .
Great guy, really cares about your grade and wants you to pass. Get ready for dad jokes, especially ship related ones since he is Captain Crock after all! The amount of online homework is ludicrous so keep up with it! Otherwise if you just need a math class, definitely take Captain.
Ive always struggled with math but Captain made it a breeze! He is enthusiastic which helped. Homework done on WileyPlus which is a pain but at the end of day easy points. Let me emphasize I suck at math and got an F in pre-calc at Pitt so I was nervous for this. Tests are easy and fair if you do homework and pay even half attention to lecture.
Didn't mind him as a professor but geez there is a ridiculous amount of math work, and they all ask the same thing it feels like
Unfortunately I had to take a math class for my major. Captain Crock made it as easy and painless as possible. Theres a lot of homework but it gives you unlimited tries so you can get a 100% on every one, and quizzes have up to 3 tries, just stay on top of them. The exams are fairly easy as long as you review. Highly recommend.
Captain Crock is THE best prof I have ever had. He cares about his students and will re-open any homework and quizzes at any time. He doesn't take attendance so you don't have to go to lecture, but if you simply just show up and pay attention you'll do fine on exams. He gives lots of homework but it just helps you understand the material more.
One of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are hilarious and explains everything clearly. Assigns a lot of homework at the end of lectures but if you start on it early enough, you won't be overloaded. Even extends deadlines for homework if you ask him.
There are tons of online assignments, but in hindsight they're great for practicing the material
Professor Crock, AKA Captain Crock, is everything but ordinary. He is very passionate about teaching and makes sure everyone understands the material before the exam. There is a lot of online homework, but in the end it is a great grade booster. His exams are very straight forward and he is overall a great prof. Would definitely recommend!
Loved Captain Crock's class! A ton of online homework and quizzes but his exams are easier than the online stuff is. He will extend any deadline if you ask, he just wants you to do well. Final is tough compared to the first 2 exams because he doesn't make it, but everything else is straightforward. Going to miss him next semester
So math is not my fav, but Captain Crock honestly made it bearable. He's super funny and also understanding. If you have to take this class - pick Captain Crock for sure.
Captain Crock is by far my favorite math teacher ever. If you have to take College Algebra seriously take it with him. You are dumb if you don't. He is very funny and such a nice guy. You do not have to show up to class but if you do he makes it bearable and you might even laugh while you are there. I don't know why they don't make him full time.
As funny as Captain Crock is, he wasn't the best at explaining the material. Most of what I learned in this course was from my TA or watching YouTube videos on my own. He works 3 jobs so trying to reach him via email could take forever. He was also always late to class by at least 10-15 minutes. Be prepared to endure his pirate jokes every day.
Probably best choice for Algebra. His jokes get annoying, but he is very nice and understanding. The homework is excessive, but it helps you learn the material. The class was pretty easy. I would recommend taking him if you hate math.
I took Math 0031 with Thomas Crock last semester. If you are taking Algebra at Pitt, I highly recommend him!!!! He explains all of the concepts clearly, and genuinely wants the class to do well. It is important to do all of the online homework assignments on MyMath Lab, because they will help boost your grade.
Captain Crock is the most bizarre yet hilarious professor Ive ever had. He does assign a good bit of homework online but its manageable as long as you dont leave it for last minute. 100% recommend him.
I loved Captain! He works many jobs & was 10 min late every class. HILARIOUS. If you did not do well in algebra in high school, this guy is your man. Take this class for the algebra credit if not needed for your major! I was SO bored during lecture with the slowed down material and constant boat jokes but thoroughly enjoyed. LOTS of online work.
Captain Crock is definitely a fun teacher to have, while the algebra might boring, he'll crack a few jokes while he teaches. The amount of homework assigned is kind of overwhelming but if you get behind you can just ask him to reopen it and he will. Tests are hard but as long as you do most of the homework you'll pass.
Captain Crock is a solid choice. He wants you to pass more than anything. There is a lot of online homework though which if you don't do it you straight up won't do well in the class. Also, he just stopped teaching us any material after my class moved online in Spring 2020 so that was interesting. Otherwise, he's a good teacher.
I took Mr. Crock for Math 80 and 90, he was the best math teacher I ever had! I wish I could take him for Math 108 but I don't think he teaches at CCAC anymore. He made Algebra click for me, I highly reccomend.
As somebody who never clicked with algebra, Mr Crock helped flip that switch in my head and all the sudden algebra start making sense. He is a fun teacher and I wish he taught MAT-108 at CCAC still, I would take him in an instant. I took him in Mat-80 and 90
