Took his class in a fall 2006 8-week session. Not hard at all, just had to write a few essays and take a few tests. Very funny guy, gives great notes. Tests are right from the notes, but at the same time if you don't study them, you'll probably get a B or a C on the test. Not a hard grader. Take him, and if you try, you'll get at least a B.

he's an extremely easy professor. although the class is usually completely lecture, he makes the materials fun and is dedicated to making sure you pass the class. he hands out study guides of exactly what is on the tests, and there are five essays. it is extremely difficult to fail his class.

Very Interesting and Pationate about his subject. enthusiastic and clear in his lectures. The first teacher I've had to use powerpoints but not as a crutch. actually knew what he was talking about. Papers were straight forward and exams not difficult if you study. Is not out to get you and will grade fairly. If you show effort he won't fail you

He's an excellent professor, very easy going. Lectures a lot but does so quickly and in a manner that keeps your attention. Only complaint would be the readings he assigns are a bore unless you like HIS, otherwise a great professor and would surely attend another class he teaches w/o objection.

Mr. Demarter did an excellent job. Since it was a Summer Class it was hard to get through all of the material. He worked at making the information interesting and relevant to today. I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I highly recommend this professor.

Demharter is definitely an interesting professor to say the least. My only problem was that he's just so hott I couldn't concentrate on the material. So if you can ignore that then he is THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! and i would strongly suggest taking his class, even if its just to look at him.

Fun lectures he will keep it interesting by adding his own comments, does not give A's away you actually have to work a little for it, but is worth the effort. There is a quiz every class, and midterms are not hard if you read and do the vocabulary in the study guide. I would recommend this history class

Haven't gotten a professor that encouraged and motivated me to study this way at NOVA yet...The reality is that when the education curb is going downward, we need more professors like Thomas Demharter to turn this thing around. He is very open minded person he makes history fun. He is OK looking guy, but rather his personality that makes you think he is hot. do your readings and quizzes and you will do fine in his class. He is not easy on the gradings and you have to work hard to get A or B.

This is a good professor, he is scary, but in a good way. The first couple of weeks he scared the hell out of me. One thing is for sure, he knows his History, and he really cares about people. Lord help Nova if he ever leaves. Take his class you will learn a lot and he really does give good advice about how to make it beyond a 2yr level college.

Professor is very knowledgeable! Knows alot about US History and history in general. He will keep you interested in subject being taught. His tests were hard according to several students. Reading is mandatory as well as studying for tests and exams. No slacking in his class or you will fail.

Great Professor, if you want to pass and you show up, show some effort he will do the rest. I didn't find his lectures boring at all I took an accelerated course with him (8 weeks) and he kept me entertained at all times and made me think in different aspects. Prof T.D. Is GREAT!. It felt like he was turning me into an historian with all the reading and quizzes. :-) A word of caution to those that are lazy and like to make up excuses, be prepared to work your tails off, and make sure you are organize. That's the key. Take his class if your truly want to learn history, because he's the man!

Such an easy class, the quizzes are on the chapters but they are easy. Just take your time when doing them because they are not timed. Yet again, won't take you longer than half hour. Professor Demharter is teacher, and a damn good one. Read the book, follow along in class, and enjoy. He makes the class exciting for what it is. Hell, I would pay to see this guy do stand-up comedy. Seriously, though, he is a great teacher that is straight forward and FAIR.

I signed up for this class with professor Demharter thinking it was going to be boring. I was wrong! Prof Demharter made classes fun and interesting with sports topics (football) and some politics. Have to read the book; power point slides, lectures and study guides are very helpful for tests. Overall very pleased and got a B.

I have had Professor Demharter for two history classes. He is an AMAZING professor. He truly knows and loves his history. He is very fair with grading and tests, and gives plenty of opportunities for students to perform their best. He is hilarious in class, it was never a dull moment, and he was well liked by all the students.

I took Professor Demharter's class 2 years ago and still remember the lectures and stories he would provide in class regarding history. I find myself repeating pieces of his lectures to my high schooler, and just wish I could find his PowerPoints! He is an excellent teacher and is able to deliver a lesson that draws the class in.

2nd class. He's a good teacher but unorganized. Get the book: anybody who says you don't need the book is an underachiever and don't understand the concept of higher education. You are not going to college for an easy grade: you're going to learn and do so effectively. Do the reading and you're GUARANTEED an A. Grade curved for attendance.

His lectures are funny, not boring, and very interesting, his class is 3 hours but it isn't even bad because he keeps you focused and gives you breaks when you need it. Professor Demharter is basically what you want in a teacher. He loves the subject he teaches, makes his lectures interesting, and cares about his students. He is a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to grading, but he also takes in late work, so it balances out. Great semester overall. Keep up with the book and you will do well.

This was my 2nd time around taking Professor Demharter. If I had not taken 101 & 102 with this professor I would have NEVER passed history. I thank the Lord I went with my instincts & took him for 101 and not Mr. Howes. However, he makes his exams extremely long, but I guess he has to balance it out since they are online. Very easy class, you expected to read the chapters each week and take a small quiz before class. There are two midterms and one final exam. Each exam includes multiple choice, true, and two essays which were my least favorite part but it is what its is. Over all its a very easy class, no homework and he's very nice and easy going.

All in all, Mr. Demharter is a great man and teacher. He is quite blunt, especially when students are disrespectful, but it emphasizes how much educating us means to him. He's really fit and fetching, so it's not at all difficult to pay attention during class.

Lectures are long but he truly makes them interesting with a few jokes here and there. Do the work he gives you and you'll do great ! Very good professor. He teaches by PowerPoint (yeah I know) but he makes it fun. The tests are little long but if you pay attention and read you should be good. There's 1 online quiz every week but you have plenty of time to do it and they're not long at all. If you don't pay attention or skip a day, you will have problems in my opinion.

Appreciated his attention to both "political sides" of history--compared to the common core liberal beat down. Lots of lectures, but keeps it interesting. Great Guy! Lectures were funny and he would always let us out early but we would still always finish the material in time. He is also always willing to help out if you're ever struggling in this class(Which I highly doubt you would). However, he sometimes takes a while to grade certain quizzes and tests but it isn't anything to worried about!

Prof. Demharter is a gem. He is funny, caring, inspirational. Lectures are always very simple, do reading at home, take a quiz based on the reading and then he will explain the chapter. Reading quizzes were always on canvas which made them very easy. He slacked at the end when he stopped giving quizzes and I was not motivated to do the reading.

Let's face it I took this course to satisfy a requirement. I like history but, I'm not a real fan of history so, I was hoping to get by and move on. What I found was a professor who is passionate about the subject, was really well informed and knows how to lecture to his audience. That is a rare talent these days. I would take another class.

This was the one class this semester I genuinely looked forward attending. (soon-to-be) Dr. Demharter was such an amazing professor. Not a single lecture was boring, was usually funny, and you can tell he's genuinely passionate for history. All of his tests were online, not locked down either. For sure gonna try to get him the semester after next!

Funny professor, understands if you have an emergency, cares more about quality of the work rather than quantity. Is a hybrid course, have to read every chapter you have a short quiz, 3 writing assignments.

Mr. Demharter is one of the most concerned and caring professors! He truly would like to help you learn about history, has fun teaching it, and even adds in additional factoids of information. The teacher is fair and teaches very organically. He makes every lecture enjoyable and makes you feel like you've learned something by the end of it. I loved him, I actually learned from him and was very easy with work also understanding.

Professor Demharter is a phenomenal teacher. I genuinely enjoyed attending his class. He is incredibly understanding and loves what he does. The exams are long, but he provides you with a study guide. Overall he is fantastic; I give him five stars and highly recommend him!!

Simply a phenomenal teacher. I have never enjoyed or understood a history class so much before. Highly, highly recommend for anyone who doesn't want to drown in homework and still learn a ton.

Demharter is probably the best teacher I've ever had, he's super understanding, and always keeps us engaged. Whether or not your passionate about history, you'll definitely enjoy him. His quizzes are hard but as long as you read you're good. It's impossible to get below a C imo!

Professor Demharter gives a whole bunch and simple resources for homework, short quizzes, projects, and exams. If you're a person who does the assignment and turns them in on time then you're good. If not (like me well sometimes), then just talk to Professor Demharter and explain it to him and you'll lose a few bit points on your assignment.

I took his seven-week course, he is an amazing professor. He cares about us and is chill. We had 7 discussions but we were allowed to do 4, and 5 for extra credit. A midterm and final which were 7 writing questions, pretty easy because he gives you a study guide. He also has a final project which is fun to do. Definitely would take him again.

Professor Demharter is engaging and fair. While his lectures can get dry at times, he keeps things lively with humor. The class is manageable, and Unstuckstudy proved a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid choice.

I had to drive an hour to and from class, but didn't care because the guy was such an amazing professor. Made learning about history fun.

At the time I took his course, I had a lot going on that prevented me from being able to focus on all my classes. When I talked to him about this he was extremely understanding and let me know that as long as the work is DONE at one point or another it'd be okay and graded without penalty. The lectures themselves were very engaging and interesting!

Ive honestly been terrible with attendance this year but I'm trying now, work and life is just too busy. But whenever i go to his class I don't feel like I'm in school but maybe a history museum. Where the presenter actually has personality and humor. For a 50 year old he's like a 23 year old classmate. His lectures are genuine and informative.

I always loved learning and wanted to be a teacher. The way this guy talked about how much he loved teaching, how much he loved US really solidified it for me. He'd talk about how much he loved being a father and it really made me want to make him proud and try as hard as I could. Such an inspiring guy and really applied the content to real world

The most enjoyable class to attend. He really cares about his students. He's mindful of his students having work and other classes to attend to. If you're gonna take history take his class.

Professor Demharter was an excellent instructor for History 101. He is incredibly understanding, easygoing, and genuinely supportive of his students. He explains material clearly, thoroughly, and what really sets him apart is how well his study guides prepare you. Everything on the midterms and finals comes straight from them. TAKE HIS CLASS!

HE IS THE BEST! if you want a passionate and a professor that really cares this is the person to take. Very straight forward, gives study guides, do the homework and attend class and you will walk away with a good grade and with so much more. he is easy to communicate with and honestly i would take any class he teaches. im grateful for sure!

Thomas Demharter was an excellent History 101 professor. He is extremely engaging, understanding, and inspiring. He knows the topics he teaches front to back. If you're unable to go to every lecture, the course work is available outside of class. If he was available to teach all my other Gen Eds, I'd be happy to take each one.

Mr. Demharter was an excellent professor; his lectures were on point, and he assigned minimal homework. If you pay attention in class and review his notes, it's an easy A.

I love Mr.Demharters class, I wish I could take him for every class. He's not a tough grader and really cares for his students and their grade. Tests were all taken online at home, not many assignments given. If you're looking for an easy A while still participating, TAKE HIM! You won't regret it, he's also hilarious which made lectures fun.

Thomas Demharter is an amazing professor. He had me laughing at every lecture, and when I had gotten Emergency surgery, he gave me time to complete my assignments without a grade depletion. Literally ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IVE EVER HAD. He is such a kind and understanding person. His class is so easy. Just show up, do you work, and your good. He is very funny too. If you need to take this class GO WITH HIM!!!!
