One of my favorite professors. He teaches now at UCI so I'm not sure if he'll be coming back anytime soon. There are many interesting topics brought up in class. He's down to earth, funny, and makes the material very interesting. He shows lots of films.

Okay here's the deal.He writes all lecture on the board which makes stuff much easier to understand.You get to watch clips of movies/videos.Don't really need to fully read articles to do well on exams. I took it at night and he let us go early almost always.He gives loads of info so don't miss a lecture.

He is one of the nicest people I've ever met. You have 2 midterms, one paper, and a final. As long as you show up to class and take good notes, you'll do fine. I received an A and I didn't work extremely hard. Highly recommend him!

Easy...all lectures are on written on board. Don't really need to do the readings or pay attention during movies. Just listen to what he is saying while writing on the board. Simple class. Good teacher. he knows what he's talking about.

Easy class. Make sure to show up everyday and take notes, and you'll do fine. Readings were sometimes long, but pay attention in class and study for exams. Not a lot of homework, and videos were cool (Madonna music videos made the class fun). Large class size, but cool teacher.

Just about the sweetest guy you will ever meet. And he knows how to keep a three-hour class interesting! Very clear and energetic lectures, spliced with amusing videos, decent breaks, and an overall sense of relaxation and comfort in his classroom. For all who must take 314, or are just looking for a fun class, you *must* take him.

Douglas is a very good professor. He is very inspiring and he really is a kind person. I think he is very fair and he really does keep you awake in class. I definitely recommend him.

I loved this class. I have never had any interest in Anthropology and now I am considering looking at it as a minor. He makes the class SO easy. He actually writes the notes down and doesnt do them on power point so you can follow him instead of scrambling to write everything on the powerpoint down. THis guy is GREAT! TAKE HIM!!

He puts together a packet of articles for you that you don't really even have to read. Very easy and nice 1 paper and 3 tests. Gives good clear notes but no way to get them other than going to lecture. He understands you are just taking it for GE credit and treats it that way. i reccommend him

I got an 83% in his class by just taking notes and sitting up front. The videos he provides are interesting (and there are alot). He grades very easy on the 6-8 page essay. (I got an A+ (300/300) on my essay (an interview of senior citizen or immigrant) which I did the final draft the morning before it was due. 2 midterms 1 final. I recommend.

i loved this class. he makes the class interesting and doesnt make the tests hard at all. but u have to study forthem then youll be fine. he writes all the notes on the overhead and hives a study guide for the 2 midterms and the final only one paper and the topics to choose from are intereting. you dont need to buy the book. attendance not a must.

Prof. Douglas made my class far more interesting than I thought it could be. Not only is he a nice guy, but he's also an extremely helpful teacher who genuinely cares about what his students take away from the class. As long as you pay attention to lectures, you should do well.

Best teacher EVER! I had no interest what soever in anth but douglas made me double major in it. His notes are simple & straight to the point. The tests were straight from the book. There were only like 3 out of 40 ?'s on the test that came from the book. You dont need to buy the book. The paper, tests & class were easy. He is passionate bout anth.

Extremely easy class. The only bad part is that you have to spend $68 on a pamphlet. However, 3 tests, and one super-easy "research paper." Easy A. He even tells you that you don't need to attend class everyday.

There are some movies.He rights on the white board so there no way to get the notes unless your there or you have a friend. highly recommend!

Loved this professor! made this class interesting. NO textbook (all readings are posted on Beachboard), film watching and lecture notes. He makes the class! Anthropology is extremely fun! If you take notes, then you will do fantastic on the tests, heck if you just listen to him you will do fantastic. There is only one paper and it is fun to complete! Final is easy, very light reading, (we didnt even need a book, just articles) definitely take another class if he teaches it!

Very fun and informative professor! Just take notes and skim through the readings and you'll get an A. He doesn't require a textbook and provides all the readings online, so that's a plus for your wallet. Exams are easy multiple choice questions with an essay portion. One term essay which is also easy to make.

VERY straight forward class. Copy everything he writes on the board and that's literally the answers for the test. The paper is also very easy and simple. Laid back type of guy. If you miss class make sure you get notes from someone because you pretty much missed part of a test question.

Professor Douglas is a sweetheart and knows how to teach a class. Attendance is mandatory because his exams are based solely on notes. His only downfall is that he tends to be quite vague making his study somewhat useless. I hardly ever studied for any tests and yet pulled out with a C or above on each one.

Professor Douglas is straight forward, clear, etc. Even if you miss a lecture, you will easily get caught up because he basically repeats the important points of his lectures. He gave a lot of extra credit throughout the semester when half of the students didn't attend, so make sure you go to class! Would recommend Douglas to everyone!!

Prof. Douglas is an outstanding professor. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are very repetitive, it helped me retain a lot of the information he talked about. I literally studied 20 mins before the exam and I still got an A in the class. He gives 20+ pts on extra credit on exams and even on the final! TAKE HIM!

Pretty interesting class! Douglas is a great teacher and really knows his stuff. He is actually really funny and makes the information interesting. His tests were some what difficult, but if you attend class and study you should be fine! I would for sure recommend him to anyone who is interesting in Anthro!

Tom Douglas is a saint when it comes to Anthropology at CSULB. He is an excellent lecturer. He provides great notes. His papers are relevant and I learned from writing them. He gives good commentary. He also brings food to class, which is awesome. What's not to like?

Id highly recommend his class. He also doesnt allow laptops which I love because there arent all those annoying people on laptops in class. :)

He is so nice! He really explains his lectures to the fullest, and he tells it like a story so its super easy to understand and remember. There are a ton of articles to read, but I never read them and I still got 100% on a midterm and 98% on the other. Douglas is really great! He is very clear with the lectures and pretty much everything he says & writes on the board would be on the test. I really recommend taking him. Be aware that laptops and cellphones are not allowed though. Better to go everyday in his class because note taking is really precious if you want a good grade.

Douglas is so rad. I had his MWF class this semester and I didn't even mind going on Fridays, that's how much I enjoyed it. The course itself is based on two midterms, a course paper, and the final. Good prof but lots of names. Hard for me to pay attention first half of the semester but to be fair it was also a morning class. it's a very easy class,2 reading summaries aren't so bad. Only reason why I didnt get a higher grade was because I never showed up. No textbook needed, just show up, review study guides &you'll pass w/an A for sure.

Attendance is 15% of the grade, so kind of mandatory. If you don't attend class the best you can do is 85% if you score perfectly on everything else. Two papers (write them beforehand), midterm and final. There's a lot of content to learn but it's a great course! Very interesting and Dr. Douglas is awesome, you can tell he loves his job.

Lectures were very interesting to learn. You will be really into it. The class consists of 2 tests (around 70-80 questions each), a final exam (95 questions), and a research paper (MINIMUM of 1800 words - around 5 pages). If you study hard, you will no doubt get an A easily. If you don't take this professor, your missing out at CSULB. Good luck! :)

Amazing professor! Very reasonable, gives extra credit on each exam, 1 small presentation, 1 paper due and 3 tests. He's pretty flexible which is awesome for any college student. Prof. Douglas is such a kind soul. He just radiates a calming and likable aura. His lectures are interesting and clear, and his tests aren't too difficult. No textbook required, all his readings he posts on BB.

EASY A. I didn't read most of his assign readings from BB and still got an A. Lectures are very interesting, he is calm and super nice. One midterm, a final, and a paper. It's very do-able and there are study guides. He writes his notes on the board so most of your studying will be from your notes which you copy it down from the board.

He has been the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are crystal-clear, he explains everything and writes it on the board for you to follow. He has only 1 major paper, but after all his lectures it becomes pretty easy to write. There is no textbook needed; he provides pdf files for you. Overall, he is the total professor package.

Thomas is an amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and understandable, he will do his ultimate best to answer questions. He is funny and very sweet, there are reading assignments that are pretty long but you can make your way around then and still do fine in the exams. I really loved this class. It was an easy A but I also learned a lot. There are a lot of books but he only assigned specific chapters to read. You dont really have to read all of them but the tests have pretty specific questions that arent answered in the lecture so I highly suggest doing the reading. Thomas was one of the few professors that I loved because this course was the best thing that happened to my gpa for spring semester. Every class is a lecture and if you don't take notes you won't be prepare for tests. Only 4 major graded items towards overall grade (two midterms, one course paper, and the final). Study guides are exactly like test

His class was really intriguing, learning about the various indigenous cultures. All the assigned readings are up on Beachboard, so you don't need to buy a textbook. There's only 2 tests and the final, but he gives you study guides. He assigns 1 essay, but it's really interesting, easy, and fun to do because it was an interview on someone you know.

I would highly recommend this professor for this course. It is mainly lecture-based, but don't let that dissuade you from taking this course. He makes the lectures interesting and sometimes throws in a video here and there

Easy and somewhat interesting class. Your grade is based on two midterms and a (all multiple choice) and an easy interview paper. I never did the readings, he gives you a study guide for each test just study that and you will do great. My class made a group google doc of his study guides before each class which helped a lot, they're also on quizlet

This class was surprisingly very interesting. There are 3 exams and one paper, all of which are extremely simple. To be honest I didn't even read the readings, which were very long and tedious, rather I just looked up summaries. Come to class, take notes, study them and you will definitely do well. Overall, I highly recommend this class and him.

The tests were very easy and theres even extra credit on the tests, so I ended up with a 101% in the class. There was supposed to be a course paper, but he cancelled it due to COVID-19. Took this course because I need some type of humanities class, it is has by far been the easiest, least stressful class I've taken. Tests matched his study guides and lectures exactly. If you read over your notes and take at least a couple hours to review the study guide and content, you will pass. I got an A on every exam.

There is 1 essay and if you fulfill all the requirements in the prompt you will get the full points (Trust me, I haven't wrote an essay in years and I was surprised I got the full points).
