He is the BEST professor I have had in all of my years of college. He's hilarious and always full of energy. I remember everything I learned in that class two years later. His tests are extremeley straight forward, and he just radiates excitement!

This guy's off the hook. When he's not running up and down the stairs, he's throwing chalk at things. If you've got to fill GE reqs, THIS is the class to take!

I'm an animal science major, and Prof. Famula confirmed my desire to go on with it. He really could be a comedian if he ever quit teaching, but he's also like a funnier Mr. Feeney, because he incorporates ANS stuff into real life.

I loved this class, and I don't even like sciences. I always had some new fact to tell peopel at dinner after Famula's lectures. It was a really good class and I would recommend it to anyone, no matter their major.

I took a seminar with him (less than 20 students) and I think he's awesome. I plan on taking Animal Science 1 just because I know he'll make it really cool. Get to know him if you can -- go to office hours, etc. because he's really a good guy.

Famula was great. I'm a third year student and am always looking for classes to take from him. If you are enrolled for ANS 1 watch how is ties change with the topics. When I took it, he would wear a tie related to the topic (if possible).

Dr. Famula is absolutely amazing. He is always easy to understand, always helpful, and funny (watch out for flying chalk) He looks pretty good in jeans, too.

Shows that a teacher can be entertaining while getting his lecture across to students. Front row is a danger area since he tends to throw chalk. The labs were cool. Only taught in Fall. I can see why Dr. Famula won the Senate Distinguish Teaching Award.

Dr. Famula is a great teacher. I didn't even miss one lecture. But it's his T.A.'s you have to watch out for. Don't get LOgan Smith..he doesn't even know what he's talking about during the labs. Oh yeah,the class isn't easy as people make it to be. Study

Chalk thrower! Great fun, and funny stories. Watch out for TAs though, they can mess you up (papers and lab final). Loads a fun, though you need to work for your grade. Don't sit near girls gushing about their crush on him, they're distracting.

Famula is so nice and funny! It was definitely my favorite class to go too. Midterms can be a little random because there is a lot of information, but I LOVE the class.

He is an amazing professor who, both in class and out of class, will respect you as a student and talk to you as if he knows you personally (which in most cases--teachers don't). He makes you want to get up in the morning and learn!!!

LOVED him, he made class so interesting. All the chalk jokes got a little old, but he's great nonetheless. Tests are pretty tough, he'll try to catch you with math so read the questions very carefully.

This was the only class I had that made getting up worth it. I LOVED him! and he's really cool during office hours. He gets really animate and into the subject. He does great lectures. Go to class, its worth it.

I've NEVER HAD such a fun class before. this is a must take class. labs are VERY FUN. the best TA is is ELIZABETH LaBONTY, if u get her u're LUCKY. she's SO NICE. and knos about all the animals except bunnies cuz of allergic reasons

Best teacher! Funny and clearly a really good teacher. fun hands on stuff for labs. Some questions are on the handouts and questions are fun scenarios. I highly recommend this class for GE- such a nice guy. You also learn a lot and its not even tedious. Papers are not longer than 3 pages.

He is the best teacher EVER! It was so interesting listening to him lecture, that learning was easy. As long as you try hard, you will get an A. The tests are difficult, but it is all memorization. The labs are awsome! I have never had so many interesting stories to tell me friends!

BEST PROFESSOR IN DAVIS!! i don't care what your major is, TAKE THIS CLASS! it's like going to an educational comedy show. labs are really hands on (wrestling sheep to milking cows) and extremely fun! lots of interesting things to learn.

Famula is AMAZING! SO funny and interesting to listen to. His lectures were interesting and went by quickly. The papers werent hard, but you have to be interested in the subject. Tests were kind of hard, but if you study everyday you'll be fine. Lab was mostly long and boring, but interesting. Easy class, but you have to study and attend!

I had this class for my fall quarter of freshman year. OMG, he freaking rocks! It really is like watching a live entertainment show. He is sooo funny, and he makes the material really really interesting. I ALWAYS went to class! Loooved him! Still my favorite professor at Davis. Tests were easy if you went to lecture and knew the material.

Alright, its already been said...Famula rocks. His lectures are hilarious and filled with random interesting facts. I'm pretty sure he needs a 3 hour nap after lecture from all the running around! Pay attention and write down the random crap he says...it will definitely be on the test. Side note...lab portion is a little juvenile.

famula is a really good teacher, he is a good lecturer. good class interesting, fun. take it if you can. but word of caution. his exams can be a bit difficult in the sense that you're expected to know specific numbers. sometimes it seemed like there was too much info to memorize. other than that, easy class!

he is a wonderful professor and its impossible to fall asleep in his class with all of his engery and enthusiasm for the subject. attending lecture does help because any question a student asks will 99% of the time be on the midterms! but you can still not attend and get a B+ or an A

Famula is great professor. The midterms and final are easy enough if you study well (even though he sometimes puts things on the test that I thought were way to specific or of little importance). Having a good T.A. is a good grade boost because about half the class is based off lab. Fun labs, but not "an easy A". I would reccommend.

Famula is a GREAT teacher! He is funny and thorough! There are 2 midterms and 1 final, but the final is NOT cumulative, basically making it a "third" midterm. The labs are fun but tiring...there is a lot of information to learn for the class but if you are interested in animals then it should not be very hard... Fun and interesting class!

Lab/papers are the hardest part, and that's all dependent on your TA. Definitely take a class with Dr. Famula if you get a chance!

Very Hot, Very funny man. Everything he says is hilarious and he gives out answers all the time. Pretty easy class if you PAY ATTENTION, but then again its hard not to. You'll love his class even if you hate animals.

Awesome teacher. Definitely is, and will remain, one of my favorite teachers at Davis. Go to class, he gives out answers to tests and even though the records the lectures he will turn off the mic to give answers. Plus, it's worth going just because he is soo funny. If you work hard, you will probably do pretty well. Labs are also fun!

best class and professor ever! learned a lot and still had fun, especially in lab. no textbook, just online notes. some test questions come from lecture, so go. great class for majors and non-majors. weekly quizes in lab, two papers, two midterms, and final. final was noncumulative and pretty easy.

Professor Famula is one of the coolest animal scientists you will ever meet. Just hearing him describe artificial insemination in class is inspiring. He's funny without even trying. There's a reason the front row of Chem194 fills up so fast...and there's a reason that mainly females sit in the front....to take good notes of course!

Ah, good memories with this professor. Lab is required (and it's super fun), two papers and two midterms (not cumulative). The final for me was a lot easier than the lab final because the lab final was cumulative. Go to his office hours and get to know the guy; he's wonderful.

Best professor I have ever had, bar none. Lectures are both full of information and trivia, and are extremely entertaining. Lab is long, but mandatory. Tests are hard. Well worth taking no matter what the workload just for the professor. Would recommend to anyone whether or not the like animal science, not just those who need it.

Professor Famula has been my favorite teacher so far at UCD! I'm a sophomore and have had my fair share, and he is really a great guy and an amazing teacher. He is hilarious, and very easy/interesting to listen to. He makes you want to major in ANS. He's also affiliated with the DHC so if you can, take his ANS 1 DHC class. You won't regret it!!

Great professor. Attendance was high; people still sat in the staircase at chem194 even towards the end of the quarter. With good reason too. He's a very interesting lecturer and has a huge passion for this subject. My TA, Chris Howerton, was really awesome and chill too. Of course, the lab was the best part and should be taken by any davis student

Good guy. Runs a straightforward class and lectures are interesting. Did not care for lab b/c of TA but overall a good class. Not as easy as everyone seems to think- you must study and take good notes.

His lectures are entertaining. You don't NEED to go to class, however, you should. He podcasts, but sometimes it doesn't work and he likes to sneak in questions for people skipping class, on the exams. His exams are multiple choice, fairly easy, but read the questions carefully. Overall, a good easy, starter class.

Like everyone else said, a wonderful teacher. Also very sympathetic of illnesses and such issues. I got H1N1 and he waived the whole lab final for me and also gave me a healthy extension on a paper. All without even asking for a Dr's note. Very sound guy, I'd like to have a beer with him!

really really really really reallyyyy good class. hands-on animal lab. TA Leslie made lab really fun and enjoyable. Famula is very enthusiastic when lecturing. You could listen to his lecture podcasts online, but i recommend attending lecture because he gives some test answers away. Grading is really fair.

Midterms and the Final was pretty easy, you should listen to podcasts if you miss lecture bc they are more detailed than the online handouts. Dr. Famula is hilarious!! His class is very entertaining and at the same time educational. TAs skill level varies, but you don't really have any control over that. Make sure you always get to class on time though because sometimes he gives hints for the test before turning on the podcast.

I look forward to this class each week and it gets me through my others! He's entertaining and really knows what he is talking about, he also answers questions often. He really wants you to succeed and seems to care for his students. He is very clear on what he expects on his exams. By far my favorite teacher and class; just an awesome professor!

The hype is true. Famula's lectures are incredible. The class is tougher than you'd think if you have zero ANS experience, but you should be fine. It's not an easy A, but if you try in lab and go to class you should at least get a B. I want to go sit in on a lecture 2 years later, just for fun.

I'm in love with this teacher; he's great at what he teaches, loves doing it, and is just honestly amazing at it. Everything on the tests comes from his handouts, which he puts on the website for you. Just start to look at them a few days beforehand, I didn't start to study them until the day before but I got a C in the class, with little effort.

Dr. Famula is sooooooo cool! I am so enjoying his lecture! There are 2 midterms and 2 papers. Midterms are quite easy if you go lecture every time, lots of information about questions come from that. He authorizes TAs to grade your papers, and TAs are so strict with your punctuation and grammar than contents, so not easy to get high score.

Famula is great! GO TO CLASS and write down everything he says. He tests exactly on what he says and on his handouts. Midterms are easy and labs are great. TAs are really bad and not consistent in grading papers. Can not call yourself an Aggie unless you take this class.

Absolutely fantastic professor! Attend all his lectures- they're interesting and sometimes he goes over things that aren't on them but will be on the exams! Take this class if you can- it's worth it!

1 of the best professors i've taken so far!!! he's so full of energy and it makes you want to learn the material, which is rare nowadays. I'm surprised he didn't get a 5 here haha. there are many numbers to memorize but hey, midterms and final were not cumulative which was great! flashcards helped me a lot with the memorizing.

BEST professor I will probably ever have. Although he can be a little unorganized, he podcasts which makes it easy to go back. Acquired so much knowledge from this class that I use in my day-to-day life.

Famula is an awesome professor. His class is extremely fun and interesting and he is great at giving lectures. He is very informative regarding all his assignments and exams.

Excellent professor; tests were clear/were off of his lectures and labs were simple. Papers were not a surprise-just follow directions. Class is meant for non-animal science majors and freshman so it's a fairly straight forward introductory course. Would definitely take him again!

This class was great! If you have basic genetics and statistics down, then it will be no problem. Famula is one of the most entertaining professors I've had, and I would recommend this class to anyone interested!

Dr. Famula is so passionate about the course it has inspired me to continue pursuing animal science as a major. He presents the material in a clear yet entertaining way that makes it easy to comprehend. My interest with in the material never diminished. Wish I could take it again!

Great prof, very clear, if you study its a pretty easy A - just make sure to writetype everything he says during lectures. No book! It's also just a fun class in general, I'm not an animal science major and I enjoyed it a lot.

It's impossible to say anything negative about Famula. His classes were in the morning, but you don't even want to ditch. He makes the learning fun, interesting, and will make you laugh every lecture without effort. You'll come out knowing the material and smiling, I guarantee it! He was the one who made my first quarter survivable. Thankyou Famula

Possibly the best class that you will ever take at UC Davis!

Famula is an amazing professor. He makes lectures fun and the material easy to understand. The papers were ridiculously long and complicated and the tests were challenging but it is completely worth it if you want an amazing professor. I'm just sad I wont be able to take another class with him. Highly recommend!

The profile pic really doesn't do him any justice,he is way hotter in person. He is funny and I really enjoyed his lectures. The labs are a bit harder than lectures but are still pretty easy.

He's fantastic. So, so fantastic. Enthusiastic, inspiring, funny, awesome. I wish he taught every class. So fun to interact with during office hours. Easy class for me because I'm quite well educated in animal science prior college, but I can see how it's hard.

Great lecturer and made my 10 am lectures bearable because of his great humor! Expect to take notes; ANS 1 does cover quite a bit of material. Luckily, he posts the podcasts so you can always listen to the lecture at home. His tests are not very tough (MCQ), though you definitely won't score well if you don't study. Oh and labs are super fun!

He's a good professor. He will reply to your emails in a timely manner. His lectures are clear and concise. I appreciate that he writes on the board and talks at a good pace. Numbers matter. Every little fact that seems like a side fact can be tested on.

So his tests aren't actually tough as much as just crammer with TONs of info. The two papers he assigns are actually really cool. He's well renowned in his field and respected for it. He talks alot. What he writes on the board ends up on the test. Offers podcasts of class, but they don't always take so don't rely on them

If you don't take this class, you're missing out. Whether it's for a GE or for your major, Famula is worth your time. He's funny, straightforward, and engaging. You really won't ever want to miss his class! It's also not hard and his tests are straight from his notes online and lectures. I've learned more applicable info than in any other class.

Famula is a very engaging professor and the class was very worthwhile. I have learned the most in the class out of all the classes I have taken. Famula is always open to helping and his office hours are full of interesting information. There is quite a bit of memorization, but it is all about animals and other interesting topics.

Dr. Famula is a really AWESOME professor. The way he gives lecture is just unbelievably amazing and can make you have a laughter while actually learning something. Also, he is a really great and nice guy.

I was so happy I got Famula for his last year! It was a lot of information to be thrown at you but it was interesting so I didn't mind. Review the podcasts, if they turn out, and a lot of his questions are from the lectures so pay attention!

Professor Famula has probably been my favorite professor so far. He is clear about what information you are going to be tested on and he's really energetic about what he's teaching which makes it so much easier to come to class. Making flashcards really helped me learn the material. Do not skip class! Sometimes the podcasts don't work.

Amazing professor. Had genuine care for his students. Went the extra mile to visit the various locations for the final and always made sure to be available to the student. Went and saw him years after taking his class and he made time to see me, set me up with an internship, and shared his oreos. Best professor ever.
