very cool prof, fun projects, hard tests
Nice curves on the tests
No Comments
Great guy, knows his stuff.. gives nice curves and great extra credit if you take advantage of it.
late a lot, gives nice curves on tests, gives easy to understand lectures.
Knows what he's talking about, the exams are pretty tough but he gives a very good curve.
He gives many chances for extra credit. The lectures are easy to understand because of the many real life examples he uses to relate to the topic. Exams are pretty tough but the curves are pretty big so that helps out. He's a pretty good professor.
Lots of E.C. available, challenging, but easy to pass
Not a bad class, but if you are irritated with professors who are late to class...His is not for you. This is not an exaggeration, he was late to every single class. He is a fairly nice guy, and easy to work with, but tardy frequently.
I found him to be an excellent professor. His curves were more than generous and he explained the material in a very easy to understand manner.
he's an okay guy. he is always late to class, but that was the best thing about him. he really made psychology uninteresting, though.
He was a good professor, he wasn't that hard and clarified the information well. I would definitly take him again.
I hate him, he's awful. If you're not interested he inPsych at all, this is NOT the class for you.
grades fairly, really isn't that hard, makes it interesting, very nice person; he's really not all that late, either, just by five min. or less, and he ends on time anyway. gives accurate study guides for tests.
Often late to class, but I had him in the morning, so I didn't really mind. Good guy, knows his stuff. Extra credit opportunities. Tests aren't too hard and he grades on a curve.
He is late, but that means you can be too. Broke things down fairly well. Only had one office visit with him for a funeral, he was very sympathetic.
he's cool. easy to understand, I didnt go to class much and still did ok. take notes is the best advice
Take notes! Going to class is definitely necessary. There is always extra credit opportunites and the tests are easy if you look at the study guides.
Yes, he was always late, but when he got there he always had a good lecture, he's pretty good at expaining the material and the study guides he gives out are always a big help
Awesome teacher, really explains things. Go to class, do the extra credit (which isn't hard at all) and you'll do well. There's only 5 tests, with one dropped. I failed the 3rd test but his curves are really big so I ended up not having to take the final.
Good class, lectures seemed a little repetitive but its okay just take notes, he drops the lowest test score and cruves really big

he is an awesome teacher and explains everything really well. but you have to take good notes, do the readings and study really good before a test. he curves real big so as long as you study hard you will do well. he is real cool and is understanding.
The best teacher I've had so far at EMU. Very clear and knowledgeable. Make sure you do not skip because the tests are mostly based on the notes.
He really knew what he was talking about. Most of the test comes from in class notes. If you go to class, take notes, and study them, you'll do fine.
Very hard class but offered many oppurtunities for extra credit, very very nice teacher
His lectures are very helpful- even more than the book. He clarifies a lot of things in class so it's important to go. Tests are only hard if you don't keep up with the readings. Definitely do the readings- he throws in some questions from the chapters even though he doesn't emphasize them in class.
He is a VERY interesting teacher and also very clear. He answers questions you may have and is willing to talk to you after class. I'm sure he would talk before class too if he wasn't always at least 5 min. late :). But i would definatly recomend him!!!!!
This guy was the worst teacher. They through him into the class because they didnt have anyone to teach it and he had never taught it which was obvious. He was the worst lecturer and gave the worst tests. He was very unorganized and takes forever to grade papers. The class was a waste of time!!
difficult material, but he explained it well. going to class on a regular basis is a must for exam questions. lots of extra credit opportunities and curves. very personable. takes a very long time grading papers, but eventually he gets them done. highly recommended, knows a lot about child psych

He was the best professor i have had in my college experience.
i took 2 yrs of psyc in hs so it seemed easier to me. very funny and clear guy, also kept me interested and grading scale was extremely fair, highly reccommended

very good teacher. 5 test drops lowest. huge curves i got a 83% and this was still an A. Got an A in class and didnt take the final. He makes psychology fun. Offers lots of extra credit. Take this class.
You must sit in the first row on the first day of class to get to get the full experience of this class. His hand gestures will just capture your eye! For real! Awesome teacher! Grades on a curve. Very easy.
He's awesome. Grades on a curve, and gives ALOT of extra credit. But above all that he's very nice and explains everything in a way you can understand. I would recomend any class he teaches.
This class was kind of hard but, if you study a lot before the tests it will pay off. Figurski is really nice and knows his stuff. My class had an SI ,and you got extra credit for going. The best part is each test has a very large curve and he drops your lowest test.
overall good professor. Laid back but tough on exams...very understanding and cool person.
If you go to class and pay attention ... it's hard to fail. He tends to repeat himself a lot for clarity. He invloves the class in discussion ... so be prepared to have things to say!! GREAT CLASS
He's a nice guy. His tests are hard so be prepared. Not a blow off class, has about 8 or 9 essay assignments during the semester and one group final project at the end. STUDY for the tests! You may not agree with what is said in class or in the book. His really cool if you're having trouble.
I remember it being important to show up for class because he asked particular ?s on the exams. He is one of my fav psyc profs, good class and nice guy.
This has to be one of the worst professors at EMU. Don't take him, spare you gpa. He may be a decent teacher in other level psychology courses, but he should stick to teaching higher levels of psychology. His teaching style is too general and too broad to know what exactly to study for. He really knows how to complicate an easy subject.
Energetic and Fun Professor, classes got long and boring some days. Grade based solely on exam scores, so if you don't do well on them you wont do well in the class.
This guy was really cool. As long as you show up to class and write down everything he writes on the blackboard to study you will do great. I got an A and never even opened my book. Grades are only based on tests but he basically tells you whats on the tests in his lectures. Highly recommended
Awesome. Really enjoys his job, and makes you like psych. I would recommend him to anyone.
Class is easy. Based on tests and 5/10 assignements. Always arrived 5 minutes late. He is one of my fav. profs
Dr. Firguski is a very caring man. While I never needed any, he seemed to provide as much help as possible to anyone who needed it. Most people seemed to get the class, though, as it is very easy. Four exams and an optional final, very little to no book use. I showed up every day and got 98%, but I'm sure you could skip a few and still get an A.
I think he's a good professor, he is clear with the material, and presents it well. I know some people are having trouble in my class currently but I'm not sure why. I think he'll sometimes lead us into discussions that take longer than I think they need to, but I think he's a good professor to take.
Professor Figurski was really easy, but really interesting. If you go to class, take notes and pay attention, you barely have to study for the exams. I would recommend him for Psy 101 to anyone. Good Prof.
Loved and enjoyed his class
Lectures are easy to take notes on and interesting. He's fun to listen to. Out of ten homework assignments out of the book you are required to do at least five, but you can do more for extra credit. Exams are straight-forward. I am taking a class with him next semester too because it was a very good experience.
He's definitely funny and never boring. He is ALWAYS 5 minutes late to class. Take him for sure.
The best professor... lecture is never ever boring, he always keeps us interested in the topic at hand.. I recommend his class
Although Figurski's exams can be pretty difficult, he curves very high. He can be a bit dry sometimes but he really knows his stuff. He also offers a few extra credit opportunities and is a very nice guy.
I have taken two classes with Figurski and would recommend him. His exams are rough but he grades on a curve and does not expect too much when it comes to the five required homework essays. He's never boring but always late! He's a great guy.
Took online - he takes awhile to keep up with grading so you don't really know how you're progressing. Tests are rough, but with your discussions and essays it's easy to get an A. Seems to be a nice guy, I'd take him again.
Dr. Figurski is a great teacher and a good guy. Always interesting class discussions (not just lecture), grades on a curve, and really thinks about and responds to what you say in class discussion. He also does a great job of explaining the material and it's very clear what's expected of you and how to get an A. Also had for Chld Psy. GREAT PROF!
Tests are very hard! But he grades on a curve or he would have a failing class. I dont understand why he cant go in order of chapters he skips around book which makes it hard studying. But offers some extra credit. We were supposed to have a couple papers but he was lazy and slow at grading the first one so he decided not to do another one I guess.
Hard to follow, jumps around quite a bit. Got sidetracked in lectures easily. Exams are curved, and he drops lowest exam grade. Makes it relatively easy to do well in the class.
Prof. Figurski was really cool. He really knew his material. The tests were kind of hard, but there was a large curve. Study the study guides and read the book!
He jumps around in the book, his lectures jump around, VERY hard to follow. Yeah he drops your lowest score and curves, if he didn't NO ONE would pass, he drops your lowest score but if you fail the test he still deducts points if its the one he drops. His test questions are written in ways that no one can comprehend. DONT take this guy!
I don't know about any of the classes beyond intro, but take him for psych 101. Its a joke. I don't think I studied for more than 5 minutes and breezed by with an A. Great guy, very very laid back.
One of my favorite professors. You know exactly what is expected of you and how to achieve it. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. To do well on the tests, you should attend lecture. Some book reading, but a fairly trivial amount. He's always willing to spend time speaking with a student with questions or concerns.
Great Teacher! He requires hard effort but he is very willing to help you and wants you to do well. I loved his class and he made it fun.
I've had Dr. Figurski for two classes now, he is a very nice laid back guy! BUT tests are VERY tricky!!! There were 4 tests all with a curve and a dropping of the lowest grade but you will need all the help you can get. If you take Child Psych w/ Figurski might as well take Psych of Adolescence all the same notes!!
Overall Figurski is a wonderful Professor. I've had him for 2 courses and as long as u attend class, take notes, the class is a walk in the park! He grades exams on a curve and usually requires about 3 two-page essays each semester and 3/4 exams. Highly recommended!!
This professor really understands the material and is very interesting. You need to read the assigned readings, but the workload is not overbearing. Four exams and you drop lowest score. Great class!
Firguski is the be professor at EMU. Im the slacker type student, i never opened the book once, did not study for more then 20 mins, and got a solid B. Offered 25 points extra credit and curves the test insanely. Take this guy.
He's not a bad teacher. The class can be really really boring. If you have someone to get notes from then u shouldn't go 2 class. but notes are very important on tests. I never read the book but if i did it probably would have helped me get a better grade. But he gives extra credit and drops your lowest test grade so i managed to pass!
Awesome. Really nice guy and very straight forward. He does have a few questions on his test from the book but I rarely even looked at it.
The material is tedious and sometimes borderline annoying, but he keeps it fresh and makes sure that there is no confusion on any topics. His jokes are cheesy, but keep class interesting. Buy and read the book, and take good notes and it will be an easy "A". If you're taking PSY 101, Figurski is the way to go.
He is one of the coolest dudes you will ever meet. Very down to earth, always willing to work with you, very knowledgeable. Take his class, you'll like it. The tests are a little hard, but know the material and you'll do good.
All lecture towards a test ok teacher but very unprepared almost every class he was 15 min late and he had to mail back our homework in the end because he didn't get around to it, he also didn't stick to the silibi, each week the guidelines for the reflection assignment changed... I felt confused half the time in lecture wed go so far off topic. Ma
i really liked this professor overall. he was well-prepared for class and it was obvious he was very qualified to teach in this subject. he outlines assignments and deadlines clearly and grades fairly. he attempts to make jokes and keep the peace in class discussions. very helpful and willing to answer questions...really nice guy
Pro: He hands out outlines for exams. Deadlines are given clearly and he curves generously. He attempts to make jokes (whether they are funny or not) and helpful with a willingness to answer any questions you may have. All around, he is a nice professor. Cons: There is a large likelihood that he will be late for class even on exam days!
Figurski is a FANTASTIC teacher. I really enjoyed this class and wish I could take more classes that he teaches. You really have no hope of passing this class unless you go to class b/c tests are mostly based on lecture material. He is very fair and you won't be sorry that you took his class. Just study lecture notes and you'll do well on tests.
This class is very boring. It seems like an interesting topic, but he is so monotone its ridiculous. The class is a little difficult. You actually have to study for the exams and read the book because he will put questions from the book on the exam even though he didn't talk about it in class. The exams are multiple choice and he curves every test.
Figurski was great! He really knows his stuff and he gives comprehensive lectures. I did very well in his class but I noticed that he had to curve heavily for some people. My only advice is: attend class and get involved in discussion.
Great guy, classes were pretty boring, but what do you expect for a general lecture? He knew his stuff, but the exams are nearly impossible. Sometimes he forgets to mention things in one class, and they show up on the exam. The book isn't mandatory, but he does pull a few questions on each exam from it. Just go to class and you'll pass.
obviously the best professor ever at EMU. seriously, the coolest guy.. So down to earth.
He gives interesting examples what makes you understand the material. Exams are pretty tough but still strongly recommend him.
A good guy, engaging and enthusiastic. Exams (3) and final are multiple choice and graded on a generous curve. You can drop one of the first 3 (not the final) as long as you score better than an F. In that case a penalty of 50% of the difference is applied. Show up, take notes and this is as easy an A as you will find. Its also an interesting class
I really enjoy him as a teacher, he allows you to understand well and gives examples for everything. He also provides EASY extra credit. He gives 4 exams and grades all on a HUGE curve. I would love to take a class with him again.
I really enjoy him as a professor, however this class is quite boring. I have fallen asleep quite a few times during his lectures. The class as a whole though seems easy enough if you enjoy using flash cards to remember vocabulary as this class is very vocabulary heavy.
Dr. Figurski is amazing! He is so nice, and he makes it very possible to pass the class. If you need any help outside of class (even if its not to do with the class,) he is really helpful. Definitely want to take him again!
Great class and teacher!! He gave great examples for everything and we had some great discussions in class that kept my attention. The tests are easy if you study the material and he drops your lowest score and there is a huge curve on exams that really helps. Great Professor!
late to class every day. way too easy. i want to earn my A. i guess he's good if you want an easy A...
Dr. Figurski is a fantastic prof. One of the best at EMU. Back for my 2nd BS. He cemented my interest in becoming a therapist. I knew that was what I wanted to do, but after taking PSY 101 & getting a solid background in the discipline, I'm CERTAIN. I'm taking Figurski again: PSY 322. I want to work w/kids to help them avoid too many yrs of pain.
Professor Figurski was not bad, though I found it difficult to concentrate in his class. I have trouble taking examples from the media and applying them to my life, which was most of the examples used. Maybe he's better in different subjects, but I would have chosen another professor for Social Psychology.
Dr. Figurski is a great professor! After taking Psy101 with him, I realized I wanted to major is psychology. His classes are straightforward, and the notes from class are critical for exams. Show up, take good notes, and read vocab from the book and you'll pass. He's very approachable, too!
Just show up to class and write exactly what he writes on the board and you'll pass. His grade curves on tests are huge, it's pretty hard to not pass this class!
I also had him for 322. His class is very easy if you attend class, take notes, and study them for the exam. He has a huge curve that is very beneficial. However, he shows up on average 10 minutes late.. and then tries to push the class over because he didn't have enough time... that's frustrating. He's pretty nice and well-educated though.
Had him for 309 too. 4 exams, drops lowest. Never used book, probably missed a couple test questions bcus of it, but got an A so it was good enough. Nice guy, kind of boring but majority of test material comes from class so you have to go. Great test curves and some extra credit. Helpful outside of class too. Papers are graded pretty easy for 309.
I LOVE this professor! I am a psychology minor and he is honestly the best psych professor I have had so far. I have learned more from his class than other psychology classes. He explains everything really well and as long as you take notes and come to class you will do well in the course! You only need a 90% to get an A. Highly recommend!!
His voice is very dull and boring, but he explains everything very thoroughly. He will drop the lowest test score, and all of his test questions he answers in lecture.
This class was completely online and the set up was so confusing. I kept feeling like I was falling behind and nothing was really explained well. It was a 7.5 week course so it was fast, but I was so confused the entire time. This was not my first online class but the organization of it all was horrible. That is my only complaint though.
He is a bit boring, but very nice. He shows up 10 mins late for class every day (he warned us of this the very first day of class, which looks extremely unprofessional). All work is only 4 exams, and he gives a generous curve on all of them. Drops the lowest. Easy A but I was expecting a bit more out of a 300 level psych class
He comes in 10 minutes late every class. You can read the textbook and get all the information. Attendance isn't necessary. His lectures are kind of boring. He's a nice guy and the class is easy, but I wouldn't recommend taking the class.
He's late every day including exam day. Lectures are very dry. Exams are decent if you can take good notes. He drops lowest test grade, but you have to attend and take each exam for that to happen.
Dr. Figurski is awesome! His lectures are interesting and he is very thorough. As long as you attend class, take good notes, and do the ready, easy A. He drops the lowest test grade as long as you pass all four.
He's really nice and helpful if you have any questions. Lectures can be a bit boring. Grade is based on four exams, and he drops the lowest score. Very easy to get an A in his classes if you're a good test taker. Just attend lectures, take notes, and do the readings. There really isn't much reading. Offers extra credit at end of course.
His lectures are all over the place and don't really prepare you for the exams. Get a study group quickly and do all the extra credit you can.
You will pass this class if you show up &take notes. He doesn't give much homework (if any). His exams are difficult but he usually curves the results. Exams are based on class notes & assigned text reading. Get the book!! He's very nice & loves to answer questions & makes it a goal to get you to understand if you're confused.
Great professor, but his lectures can be kind of boring. You need to come to class in order to pass the exams though because a majority of his questions on the exams come from his lectures. Easy class and a very nice professor. I recommend him and would take him again :)
This class is pretty difficult. Testing is based off of the book and lecture but they are tricky o you have to read them carefully an always study the things you don't think will be on the test hard. He's a very boring lecturer. His answers to questions are always long and by the time he finishes you forgot what you asked. He's pretty impersonal.
He's my kind of professor. Show up, shut up, and take notes. If you don't go to class and take notes you won't pass, 50 questions on the exam and only 5 of them will be from the book. He's between 5-10 minutes late to every class but his lectures tend to drag so it works out. He's funny and friendly, I would gladly take him again.
The tests are kinda tough even if you study! You need to come to class and pay attention to do well... but the lectures are boring
Adolescent PSY. GREAT CLASS! Need to be at lectures; 4 exams drop lowerest score; exams based mostly on lectures, and a few questios from book. Need to study but material is common sense and not hard. Prof gives 1-2 extra credit assignments worth 10 pts each in addition to exams. Exams on a curve, which makes fair.
I took this class in the summer as a hybrid- do the readings + pay attention in class and you'll pass easily. Thomas was a really nice guy, he always made himself available to answer questions and made lectures as interesting as possible. I would take his class again.
Tom is a good man, however a bad teacher. He knows his stuff but his lectures are all over the place. He is not organized and comes late to every class. It is an easy class, I could have skipped every class and read the book and done fine.
Good class. There are four test, he drops the lowest one! Also the test are on curves so getting a 90 could be A! Gives extra credit at the end of semester. Lectures can get boring, but if you pay close attention you will be successful in this class. Lectures and textbook reflect test EXACTLY. Take PSY 322 with him.
This was a larger lecture so there wasn't much course work. 4 exams and some extra credit. He drops your lowest exam score. GO TO CLASS, most of the exam is based on lecture material and he does not post copies of his notes. You need to get them from other students if you must miss. He is very helpful and willing to work with you. READ THE TEXT
He genuinely cares about the success of his students and does everything in his power to help you succeed. He provides study guides. He drops your lowest test score and curves every test. Your entire grade is based off the tests and there's quite a bit of reading but if you pay attention in class and read, it's a fairly easy A.
Dr. Figurski gave me an interest in developmental psychology. He wants students to participate in class discussion; this helped me better understand materials. Tests are difficult but he gives you all the information you need to study from in the syllabus and on Canvas. There is an extra credit paper which helps your grade and he curves exams.
Professor Figurski is such a great professor, he offers extra credit if needed ad you can really tell that he cares about teaching.
Dr. Figursky was in of my few favorite professors at EMU. I have taken every single class he taught. He is a very fair grader, and offers extra credit. He is very passionate about the material, and will always offer good feedback on the papers. He is one of the main reasons I became a psych. Major. His study guides are helpful. Awesome Professor!
Taking this prof was the worst decision I made. He would lecture for an hour and a half and only leave 30 minutes to actually do the lab. Other students with different profs in the same course told me they would get to leave class early due to short lectures and their work was graded a lot easier. You will be endlessly annoyed. NEVER TAKE THIS PROF
Taking him two time a week is manageable. Taking him once a week might be lethal. He lectures heavy- and it can be boring sometimes. But, He has an awesome personality he really is a good guy! You have 4 test- If I could do it again- I would read the book and attend the lectures, I probably could of gotten an Solid A. Overall good class & professor
DO NOT TAKE HIM. A lot of homework and lectures heavy for psych LAB. You will be in class for the whole 2 hours never will you leave early. Hard very hard grader. I made a mistake taking him. Boring lectures , youll want to fall asleep
Not great. His "lab lectures" were of simple concepts but he spent seemingly years to explain them. The lectures took the majority of the LAB and we had around 30 minutes to finish the lab once he was done, which just wasn't sufficient. Not worth it in my opinion for a class that should be quick and easy.
He was nice and knew what he was talking about, however he went on tangents quite often. He also doesn't use canvas to it was hard to know what your grade was in class. He does offer extra credit in class, so coming to class is a good idea because they are on random, unassigned dates. He's a nice guy but if you want structure, I don't reccomend him
