love the incorporation of rock n' roll
Very easy to follow, great sense of humor

Examples and explanations are always clear- he really strives to make class interesting, and truly cares about students performance and comprehension
Won me over by playing classic rock before class!
Great guy and has a good appreciationg for Rock n Roll
Makes chem fun, teaches well

Very knowledgable about chemistry, but moves through first-time demos and problems very quickly.
I hate chemistry, but still enjoyed going to class cuz professor greenbowe is such a cool guy. Go to his study sessions before the exams! they're very helpful!
Makes lecture entertaining sometimes. Class is not very difficult.
He is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. He always is willing to help and doesn't make you feel like an idiot. He uses Led Zeppelin, Star Wars, and Harry potter to teach chemistry. When combined with vodka and liquid nitrogen, GREAT class
Breaks chemistry down into fun analogies. This was my most entertaining class--- the demos are great. You can definitely tell that Greenbowe loves his job! The material is difficult, but I'm glad I had this prof to lead me through it.
Could never get help. This man pointed me to a TA who in turn pointed me to the chem help room. Both men did the my time is too important to help you act. Really, really disappointing.
The gradin curve was fun. 15% curve I can't argue with that
His lectures are very entertaining. He is an excellent professor and knows a lot about chemistry.
I love his analogies, but hate the godzilla. He is a very clear, precise, easy to hear professor and I was lucky enough to have a TA who could explain things that I didn't fully understand. if you go to lecture and actually pay attention you should have no problems learning the material.
Professor Greenbowe's lectures were very entertaining and effective. He also made the effort to visit our lab, helping me work through a concept. He's values learning by doing.
He is the best teacher that I have had at Iowa State.
I hate chemistry, but he is a good prof, funny too
Does a great job at explaining the concepts.
One of the best Chem. teachers I have ever had. Great sense of humor!
I have experienced several bad experiences with Dr. G. He was not understanding or helpful when my dad died. My roommate was raped while taking Chem 177 and he told her that he needed proof b/c it was one of those stories that can just girls make up. What a ass.

one of the hardest classes I've ever taken
his lectures are very effective, even though i have a hard time with chemistry, i like how he teaches...i learned a lot. hes also funny, he keeps things interesting. he doesnt ramble on like other professors...he is very cool guy

his lectures are entertaining but u must work hard to earn good grade.
He was the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. It's always been my worst subject and I've basically hated it in the other chem classes I've taken, but he made it so much more understandable. He's a great teacher. In my opinion, you want him for chemistry no matter what if you can get him.
Dr. Greenbowe is pretty much amazing - between blowing stuff up and the rock and roll analogies that he uses in class, he keeps lecture fun and interested. He keeps the students involved and explains things very well - he even holds review sessions before tests. Uber cool professor - take chem with him if you can!
Very good teacher, keeps you listening
Greenbowe is a good instructor. he tries to keep you interested, and does his best to make sure you understand the info. sometimes he goes too fast but recitation usually helped. tests aren't comparable in difficulty, so study hard for all of them or you might be unpleasantly surprised.
greenbowe didnt seem to be that helpful, he is an overall good professor. I didnt have a very good chemistry background and i kind of struggled through the class
Greenbowe was an amazing lecturer. He was very entertaining and kept the class interesting. He gave helpful review sessions and was good at teaching what you need to know. Thought the class was very easy too.
he rocked my socks
Very fun professor. Had him for 163 and waited until the summer to take 231 so I could have him. He understands not everyone is a chemist. Shows passion for what he does. A little bit quarky. His graduate student for 231, Jake, is awesome too.
Always keeps class interesting, and you can tell he loves his job and wants to make sure the students learn.
Sweat teacher. Went to the study sections and asked what was going to be on the test and Aced the test.
Awewsome
I honestly used to HATE chemistry with a passion. Then I took 177 with Greenbowe and I'm considering major/minoring in chemistry! He's a fantastic teacher, relates very well with students, he makes you look forward to going to class.
Greenbowe is hilarious. He makes morning lectures really fun and hey - even I can stay awake. His review sessions are awesome. This class takes hard work, but Greenbowe's the man.
Biggest **** i have ever met
He is hilarious! I do not like Chemistry in the slightest, but he makes it a little more fun, and a bit understandable. Tells lame jokes that somewhat relate to Chemistry, but they're pretty funny :-) I would definately recommend him over the other teachers from what I've heard.
The class is easy if you remember high school chemistry. I probably wouldn't have gone to class if I didn't have him-he made class a lot of fun and everything was very clear
Greenbowe actually made chemistry fun for the first time in my experience
Greenbow is a fun and helpful teacher. He's a great transition from Highschool to College level for he not only knows the material he keeps class interesting and interactive even though it is a large lecture. If you keep up with the homework and take notes, you are sure to do well in the class.
greenbowe is very funny in a woody allen kinda way. the only reason i didnt scoop my own eyeballs out with a spoon is because he is funny. i didnt learn much from him, but that might be my fault because chemistry is not my strong suit.
A little to enthusiastic about a subject that is really dull. Makes too many Star Trek references. Always chooses bad songs to play in the beginning of class. Needs to open his eyes and stop pecking the board. If you are smart, the class is easy. If not, you will fail. Be prepared to work.
I enjoyed having Dr. Greenbowe as my professor. He is very enthusiastic about chemistry and genuinely wants his students to do well. He uses humor to help explain chemistry, making the class much more enjoyable. Overall a pretty good professor
he keeps things interesting and he's pretty funny
He is Hilarious. Show up for class, pay attention, and do homework and you will be fine. Also, reading the book helps alot too if you don't understand.
My friend Aaron Schroder is absolutely in LOVE with him!
GREAT....easiest way to put it. He makes the subject interesting and tests are not too easy and not to hard. The SI secessions are very helpful and anytime that I wasn't quite getting something after class I would go down and talk to him and he would be able to explain it. If you have a chance to take class with this guy do it!!!
He is a great teacher! Always keeps it fun, and has a great way of teaching!
he's really into teaching and is understanding and will help you with anything you need help with
He is a wonderful professor. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I was in a huge lecture and never found myself bored. Would recommend him in a heartbeat.
this guy is awesome. his lectures were never a dull moment, and he was very clear about the point he wanted to convey to class. i would recommend him in a heartbeat.
He seems very nice and considerate in lecture, but when you meet with him, he makes you feel stupid and isn't genuinely interested in helping you achieve.
when ever I go to his class, that will be it for my day. I love attending his class.
He rushes through every lecture and makes confusing comments. He seems unfocused because he's always trying to be funny.
Very intelligent, you can tell he has been doing this for a long time. Can rush through lecture at time but there is a lot of material to cover. Overall a quality professor.
it is a good pro, that is my opinion. But actually, I think that masteringchem helps me a lot. Not the pro.
hes and awsome teacher. he really cares about the class and have a great sense of humor. hes probably my favorite professor. class is real hard and need to study for exams
Greenbowe is really passionate about chemistry and he makes lecture flow smoothly most of the time. He is very understandable and makes a lot of dorky jokes, puns, and comments! He interacts with students more than other professors in class.
Greenbowe is fully prepared for lecture. He tries to teach the concepts to a level that will be understood by the students. He likes to liven the lecture up with lots of jokes and also interacts with us to make sure we are understanding the concepts. Take CHEM177 with Dr. Greenbowe
Greenbowe was very humorous, and always prepared for lecture. It isn't the most interesting of subjects.. but he does a pretty good job. Tests aren't that easy, but they aren't terrible
He is humourous at times, has helpful, funny hints to remember topics. Occasionally isnt there to teach, so the head TA teaches. He is god awful; might as well not go. The tests are fairly easy if you know how to study.
Really funny, class is easy if you have background chem, but as my last chem was as sophomore in high school I died a little...but still loved the professor!
He makes funny jokes but is hard to follow and goes out of order when teaching topics in class. Haven't had chem for 3 years so it was hard to keep up, if you take AP Chem you will be fine otherwise you're going to have to study!! Oh and NEVER used my textbook I wouldn't buy one!
Greenbowe is hilarious. He was always cracking jokes but he also did a good job of teaching. I loved going to chemistry because of him. I highly recommend him! The class isn't hard if you pay attention during the lectures.
Great Professor. Relatively entertaining lectures that taught the material well. As long as you paid attention in class (there are easy clicker pts) and did the online homework you could get a decent grade. There are also plenty of resources to study from such as SI and the book problems listed. I did neither, which is probably why I got a B.
Greenbowe was hilarious and he usually kept me interested. His class was tough for me because my high school did not prepare me well at all for college level chemistry. My friends who took AP Chem in high school were fine. I had to work my butt off to get an A. I had a tutor and went to every SI session. Just make sure you study and work hard.
He was an excellent teacher in 1993.
I can say with confidence that Greenbowe was by far the best professor I've ever had at Iowa State. He keeps his lectures entertaining yet still relevant to everything that we need to know. He makes topics easy to remember by relating them to real life situations, & puts all of his lectures on BlackBoard which is great for reviewing before exams.
Greenbowe was a great teacher, class was normally pretty interesting and to the point. He is a funny guy and knows his stuff, would highly recommend him as a professor.
good teacher but moves really fast
One of the best teachers I have had at Iowa State. He explains the topics very well and tells jokes to make the class interesting. It isn't too hard if you pay attention and complete the homework assignments.
decent
Amazing lecturer but, he will make you work like crazies for your score, numerous quizzes and homeworks a,d tests. If you take his class you will understand everything about chemistry but will need to detach from your social life
I'm very glad I had Greenbowe for my first semester, he really does care and it blows that this was his last semester.
You may not have enough individual attention since this is a big class. However, the lectures are very clear, and if you need any help - they are always there. He gives so much extra credits, my final course percentage went over 100%, so yeah! Great professor!
He is an amazing and entertaining person! Such a sweet guy, but his teaching skills are not the best they could be. Lectures are really important to attend. He is confusing at some points, but also the material is super confusing as well.
Greenbowe has to be one of the best professors I have ever taken a class with. All of my friends who took organic chemistry with another professor constantly complained how hard the course was or how difficult their professor made the class, but I never felt that way with Greenbowe. He really makes sure you understand the fundamentals
invested in student success. great musician and chemistry teacher
Made the tests very easy as long as you made sure to look at what would be on them. Lots of chances for extra credit and the homework can be done easily at the help center. Ended up with over 100% in the class.
As a person who has taken honors chem in high school, and has little to no interest in chemistry this was probably the most difficult class to take. Be prepared to learn a bit on your own. The professor goes through the lectures fast and glosses over important stuff. Keep a tab with the slide notes open so you can keep up. Nice professor, hard class
