Mr. Heeney is professional and willing to work with students. I needed extra help and he went out of his way to make sure I received a good grade.
good professor. Helpful
This guy is great. Always willing to explain the subject. He works with the class and makes subject easy to understand. No quiz in class.
All of his quizzes are online and the only homework is to watch a video and write a summary once a week. He will tell you in class what is going to be on the quiz and he genuinely cares about your grade in his class
he is such a great teacher very helpful and super nice sometimes he gets confused with himself but everyone can laugh about it. he cares about what you get in his class and will help you if needed. the class involves a lot of writing but you get use to it.
Great teacher. Easy class, you should get an A if you at least pay attention. Great for your social life as you don't have to do lots of work. Class is mandatory. HW and Quizzes online. Need books for summaries, but you could essentially do without if you have a friend or know someone with the book.
He just became my favorite teacher. He wants everybody to pass his class and will do whatever he can to make sure you do. He is awesome!
Mr. Heeney is the best teacher I have had this semester, just a really good person who makes everything easy. There is no reason you shouldn't get a A or B in his class.
By far my favorite professor. I hate government but he made it manageable. He loves what he does and is willing to help you understand anything. The work can seem tedious, but it is very simple so just do it. Be friendly with him and follow his requirements and you'll pass easily. Do the extra credit assignment that he gives!!!
When I took this class as a freshman I never considered myself a politically minded person. Now I'm a junior and a political science major. Talk to Heeney after class or during his office hours. He will literally remember you for life, and help you out with your grade.
Heeney is awesome! The work for this class may seem like a lot, but it is manageable. Exams are online but they are timed. Study guide for final was extremely helpful. If you find yourself with a grade you don't want, do the extra credit! It seems like a lot, but if you put in the time necessary, you'll get full credit.
Heeney seems a little strict but he's a softie on the inside. He's really cool and nice. The material is hard but he helps you out for exams. Don't cut corners. I would still recommend him.
My favorite this semester! He really wants everyone to pass and succeed. Might be a little too generous with his grading but hey I can't complain. The final is a big part of the end grade but he gives plenty of extra credit assignments to help boost your grade. He's funny, caring, and very smart. Take him! You won't regret it.
Prof. Heeney is an amazing Prof. I actually failed his class, but only because of my own laziness and not doing the work. Even when I did not try Prof Heeney tried his hardest to let me make up work and get my grade back up. I plan on taking him again this semester for the same class. I would recommend him to anyone he is awesome!!!!
Great Professor! He's funny and can be mean at times but he clearly goes over what he wants on papers & quick reviews before quizzes are extremely helpful! Stay on top of the chapter readings & its an easy A.
Not the easiest class out there but you'll defiantly learn a lot. Be ready to read though! His lectures are more discussions and he will randomly call on you for an answer. Stay on the readings and take the time on papers and you'll do fine.
In the beginning I hated his class, especially his quizzes. In the end, I'm really glad I took his class. I learned a lot about politics, and now I can actually explain some legal processes to others. Heeney is a funny guy, and he'll call you out randomly. But he's also helpful, if you don't understand something just stay after class and ask him.
Heeney is a really nice guy and he wants you to succeed in his class. If you are ever struggling, go to office hours and he will help you for as long as you need. Lectures can be a bit boring, but he tends to joke around a bit which makes them easier to get through. He grades pretty leniently and gives A LOT of extra credit points!
This guy is wild. When it comes to formatting your essay, he's pretty laid back. But the meat of your paper, the correlations, he grades tough. He really wants his students to do good and will make you stay after class to talk about whatever low grade you have. He doesn't take any bull
I took this as a hybrid class. Mr. Heeney cares about his students and wants them to do well, but he is a very tough grader! You need to be extremely specific in your papers and go far above his minimum requirements to get full credit. His online quizzes are really difficult and some questions are really confusing.
Heeney is hysterical !!! He calls anyone out & he really makes me laugh throughout his lectures! Love him! He is very passionate about politics and I learned so much ! His quizzes are confusing but he really helps you succeed!
Professor Heeny is an outstanding professor and he truly cares for his students. He is eager to learn everyone's names and make a connection with everyone. He sincerely wants every student to get an A. I was extremely impressed and satisfied with his course and would take him for any class he would offer. I highly recommend him!
Amazing teacher!! The most organized class I've ever taken. There are 450 word summary a bit they are so easy he doesn't give lower than an A on them. He wants you to know the material! Highly recomend. If you try & do the extra credit you'll get an A.
Professor Heeney is okay. He's an extremely tough grader and will take points off for small things. You can turn in what you think was a great A+ well written paper and he still won't give you anything above a B. Not a fair grader and I feel as though he may favor students. Other than that the class was not as bad as I thought it would be.
If you have thick skin and at least somewhat of a passion for American government, you will do fine in this class. Taking this class during election season was a little rough because Heeney was very biased toward one side, even though he claimed not to be. ***You must read the textbook. He will call you out and ask you a question about the reading.
First time I took a government class. Really not my thing. The professor was provided lecture PowerPoints, and gave brief reviews for Quizzes. He encouraged the students to voice their opinion and was always respectful. I found that he would help if I needed assistance to obtain a better grade. He is the best and I would recommend him to anyone
Professor Heeney is very knowledgeable, and presents material so I could understand how government works in real life. He lectures for about 5 minutes and then asks the class their opinions or views on the material just discussed. Grading is reasonable, course paper 450 to 550 words easy grade. quizzes, you must read the chapters and the notes.
Heeney was the best professor I have had in a long time. If you do your assignments you get an easy B+ to an A. He is understanding and considers your issues first. I would recommend him to any first time student.
Mr. Heeney was truly a great professor. You can approach him and he would take time to acknowledge your concerns. He seems tough but he's actually very fexible. Essays-Fair grading and accepts late papers. He gives extra credit so take advantege if you like. Test&final exam-We went over most of it before taking them. He would call on you for sure.
Felt compelled to write a this after thinking back on my time in Heeney's class (2014). He's probably the most caring professor I've ever had. A truly good man with a good heart. I'll be forever grateful to him for his kindness in a rough time. He knows a lot about his subject, and will not hesitate to help you learn as much as you want to learn.
If you can take direct criticism and are willing to work tirelessly for a good grade in this course, then take it with Professor Heeney. His lectures are dry and he tries to lecture based on the quizzes that you have to take, however, the test questions have no correlation to what he taught. I wouldn't recommend, but you do USE HIS STUDY GUIDES!
Professor is very fair and his lectures are very good and to the point. His papers are light summaries and grading is good. If you do your work you will receive an A to a B- . He ask questions in class and respects everyone's opinion. I like how he will take the time to help you during office hours or after class. Great guy
Knows little about the subject, if you ask him something that isn't in his boring powerpoints he won't know the answer. Claims to give extra credit yet if you ask him about it he'll get mad. There's quizzes every few weeks and if there isn't a quiz that week there's an essay. The quizzes and papers are easy but he is very difficult to work with.
Took him for US National Gov't. Class is easy and he cares a lot about his students. Really flexible if you need to miss class as long as you tell him in advance. Intelligent guy who keeps it real. There's 5 papers in this class. 3 would've been too many, but 5 was unnecessary for this class's purpose. Show an interest and you'll pass.
He is a great professor and knows the subject. we were encouraged to read the textbook, and view several video for papers. He explains the material, reviews for test. I asked for assistance after class and was welcomed. He would always ask the students opinions on the subject that were discussed in the lectures and respected our view. take him
I had him of an online class. It was fairly easy. Clear assignments. All his work is on line. Some quizzes, a few short easy summary papers , NO midterm, and fifty question final. (multiple choice. If I emailed the professor with a question, I obtained a very quick clear answer. I would recommend Mr. Heeney to any student.
Mr. Heeney is a great professor. I had him in the spring of 2018. I recommend him to anyone.
This class is great! You have either a quiz or a paper due at the end of each week, but theyre not bad, and you do them at home. He always post the PowerPoints on canvas, so if you miss something, they are there. Super funny and knows A LOT about government. All you have to do is do the work and youll get an A! He also offers extra credit!
Professor Heeney is a great option for American National Government. Very nice guy, appreciates participation. Provides very clear rubrics; As long as you follow them exactly you can get an A on all of his papers. Quizzes include both textbook info and lecture info, make sure to take good notes. He is very easy to get in touch with.
Prof. Heeney is a great choice for Government. He is very knowledgable about the subject and even though lectures are sometimes long and tedious, most of the info on the quizzes are in there. The papers are an easy A as long as you do ALL of the suggested topics. He offered us extra credit once but it was a large amount of points. Highly reccomend.
There are multiple papers but they're only 550 words each. Some online quizzes. Lectures are "mandatory". He does post the power point notes on Canvas after each lecture. Final exam is online in the school Library.
There's 5 papers during the whole semester, roughly every other week, and about 5 quizzes on the lecture notes and textbook chapters. Lowers your grade for missing class and writes "see me after class" next to your name on the attendance sheet. Super specific criteria for the papers, but they're only 550-word summaries so I think he should relax.
YOU CAN ONLY SKIP 3 LECTURES! be wary of the quizzes and tests, if you don't study you will not pass.
Extra credit options. Graded by points not by percentage. Miss more than 3 UNEXCUSED classes and you drop a letter grade, email him ahead of time, quiz and paper due most weeks. Follow the paper rubric EXACTLY how he gives it to you and you'll get full points. He gives a study guide for the final and goes over it in class. Super understanding
I was worried at first considering he yelled at me the first day for trying to sit in back, but it got a lot better as time went on. Professor Heeney is the best! He's funny, he's respectful, he responds to emails and is just overall just a great teacher. Sit in front, ask questions, answer questions, do your work and you'll pass just fine.
Lectures were not too bad, just boring. Overall, the class is an easy A if you do the extra credit, follow the papers word-for-word, and study for the quizzes. Quizzes are mostly on definitions and class lectures (pay attention/take notes and you'll pass). Very understand professor so email him if you are struggling and he will assist you properly.
Several papers and quizzes which are easy to do. For papers just read the rubric and literally answer the questions he gives you, follow his paper format. For quizzes, its taken online at home, just use your notes or book. Final exam is easy, he gives you a study guide, just compete it and read it, and youll have an A for the exam.
Very rude and not professional. When grading papers uses ALL CAPS to denote a point like he is yelling at the student? The grading criteria is reasonable but is responses back to submissions is critical and just mean. POINTS OFF is never a good way to get a point across to a student. Skip this guy.
Professor very knowledge. Respect students views.I took the courses on line . Subject was clear and well explained
If you do not read the book you will not pass his test. He uses a lockdown browser for all of his tests so you can't cheat. He provides powerpoints but your just better of not reading them and just reading the book and taking good notes. Do well on his papers it will save your grade. He also offers extra credit so take advantage of it.
Okay so, textbook necessary for all papers, rubric is very specific follow it well and you will do fine. 900 points 300 for quizzes 300 for papers 300 for final. he gave extra credit which helped since the first few quizzes and papers weren't perfect. Attendance is mandatory but he's pretty understanding if you let him know you cant make it.
Heeney took the time to address my questions in office visits and often engaged the class in the lectures to get our views. He was always open to different views on the subjects.
So rude when asking for help. Grades so tough, took my paper to get revised by a writing center twice and got a C when i was told it was an A paper. Lectures are a total snooze fest. You dont need anything in his dumb powerpoints, thay are pointless. He tests on the book only. Talks so monotone he sounds like siri, if you need a nap, come here!
Heeney was one of my better professors. He is a professional, who whats all students to achieve a high grade. He is always available by email or in person meeting. Classes are mandatory. Gives extra credit. You must read the text and study the PowerPoints. I did not devote enough time to the course and got an easy B.
Professor Heeney is an ok guy, sometimes he will provide study guides for quizzes and the occasional extra credit assignment. Attendance is mandatory but if you email him he usually understands if you have to miss class.
The professor is respectful when anyone voices opinions. Provides additional study guides and encourages us to participate during class session. No midterm. He was always polite to the students. He was knowledgeable about the subject. I would recommend him to anyone. Great guy.
I would definitely recommend taking his class. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. He does take attendance every class so you won't pass if you don't show up. His essays are really easy to do well on and he gives good feedback. His lectures are interesting and likes to interact with the class.
Some weeks you don't even have an assignment to complete. Papers are 850 word summaries and they are easy. He gives you a rubric for each paper and all you have to do is answers the questions in your paper. Tests are 20 questions proctored on lockdown browser. He gives extra credit. His classes are interactive but you have to show up to pass.
Professor Heeney is great if you want to sit and get some homework done. His only lecture classes with zero interaction make it easy to focus on anything but him. This man likes to spontaneously call people out on their opinions. If it is not his it is wrong. The class is hard to pass and I'm usually a straight-A student.
Dropped this class after going for a week because immediately from day one he did not know how to spell words properly on the board. He is very opinionated and very strange. Reminds me of an old and senile Joe Biden.
Professor Heeney was a decent instructor, the summary essays are easy A's as long as you answer the questions contained within the summary specific rubric. The quizzes are a bit of a challenge, as you need to do the readings leading up. Textbook necessary. Don't buy the kindle version, page numbers don't match up which is annoying. Quick responses.
Professor Heeney is respectful and doesn't try to push his opinions onto the students. He sometimes provides study guides for the exams and they typically have all the information needed on them. You'll absolutely have to read the textbook if you want a good grade. He offers a lot of extra credit and the extra credit is a great way to study.
I was always tired in his class. All he did was read off a powerpoint. 5 "summaries" and 5 quizzes. If you want to pass READ THE TEXTBOOK. His quizzes are based off the textbook and the quizzes you record yourself with a webcam and lockdown browser. There was a decent amount of extra credit. The summaries are 850 words each with questions
There are loads of extra credit in this class. He is a funny guy and definitely tries to get to know his students. Tests can be a little confusing without doing your readings
Professor care less about whether you learn the subject but rather how well you can regurgitate the textbook back at him. He's knowledgeable in lecture but whatever is learned in class he pushes from the book. You could miss class and it would have no effect on your performance homework wise as long as you read the book. Wouldn't recommend.
I don't recommend taking this online maybe it's different from his in-person courses. he does not care for his students. He grades so hard. There were times I thought I nailed an essay, then he knocked points off. I felt like he enjoyed failing us or scoring us low. I even emailed other kids and they had the same exact complaints & low grades.
I feel like professor Heeney did care about how I did in the class especially for an online course however I wish things were done in a more understandable format. I was confused by his grading scales, entering of information into canvas, and felt like this was a very high course load even compared to my in person classes of similar credit value.
Class was organized and not confusing at all. There are tests and essays every other week. If you are planning to take this class online, you would have to buy an external webcam to use for the exams since they will require lockdown browser+webcam. If you do the study guides and take notes on the powerpoint slides the exams will be easy.
Professor Heeney's class was very enjoyable. We did have a decent amount of assignments like papers and tests that require lockdown browser + camera. He gave a ton of extra credit though that was super simple. I looked forward to his class each week and would recommend taking his class for sure.
This course includes: Lockdown Browser quizzes, a new essay on a topic every other week, a textbook and inquizative (required for said Lockdown Browser quizzes and essays), and an old man who loves the sound of his own voice. Please do not waste your time taking this class, it isn't worth the mental turmoil you will go through.
Professor is very knowledgeable. He combines his lectures, and assignment information in the test and papers. During his lectures he often request the class opinion on issues on political issues of the day. I liked that he treated everybody with respect. I learned a lot and would recommend Heeney as a professor.
Professor was very knowledgeable, gave clear concise lectors and instruction. Papers short summaries and quizzes multiple choice. If you follow the syllabus, read the handouts the course is reasonable. If you want to learn about Government, I recommend him. He was always easy to email and received answers right away 1 day max.
hes so mean don't even waste you time. first day of class 5 different students got yelled at infront of everyone for little things like phone use, talking quietly, walking infront of him?!?! warning: you can only walk behind him or he'll call you out infront of everyone and have a temper tantrum.he likes to hear his own voice.likes to act powerful
The class itself is not hard, but he makes it difficult. I have his completely online class, so I don't have to see him face to face, but he was extremely rude when giving feedback on my papers. I understand constructive criticism, but his execution was poor. I did well in the class, but he did not make it easy thats for sure.
this class was horrible. the workload compared to any other Gov class was insane. We had. a paper almost every week and if there wasn't a paper there was an exam. the final is 75 questions. he does give a lot of opportunity for extra credit and I think in order to do well in the class you need to read the chapters which are about 40-60 pages each.
I took this class online and it wasn't as much as a breeze as I wanted it to be. I spent many hours reading the textbook and taking notes. He isn't very helpful over email either. The tests aren't that bad though and he provides decent study guides. Be prepared to write many papers (follow the rubric almost exactly!).
The professor is very knowledgeable and delivers material well. He is a reasonable grader and course is well organized. I highly recommend this professor to any student. Do your work and you will get a great grade.
Compared to other POS2041 classes the work load was a lot. There are 5 essays throughout the semester and reading through the textbook is essentially required to pass any of the tests. The instructor was usually pretty vague in his rubrics and his feedback usually wasn't clear either. Save yourself the trouble and take this course in person.
Took American government as a core course. It was well presented and my questions professionally addressed. The professor was always available by email and Zoom. He explained politics in a way that was easy to understand. I recommend Professor Heeney to anyone who is a freshman or second year student who's major is not political science.
He's very strict with papers (4 in total); lockdown quizzes are difficult and worded oddly; aggressive comments when you do something incorrect on a paper; overall lots of crying and I just started the class.
Heeney wants us to get a great grade. He insist that you do all your assignments. Grades fairly, classes are mandatory but he gives easy excused absences. If you want to learn about the government he is the guy.
I took this as an in person class. On the first day, he told us it would become online for the next 3 months. I struggle to stay focused in an online class and did terrible. I ended up having to drop out
Heeney wants you to succeed. Understanding if you need an extension on a paper, and has opportunities for extra credit. Is VERY DIRECT in his speech and commentary. InQuizitive questions aren't on the tests - you have to read the textbook and module materials. Is very strict on his guidelines for the conclusion paragraph of all papers.
Not too difficult. You do have to prepare yourself to read, but the reading is manageable. You are graded on weekly inquizitives, papers and tests. He is not too strict on grading and provides a format for your papers as well as feed back. Offers good extra credit and allows you to turn things in late. He is a nice professor and I recommend.
He grades very harshly on papers and doesn't like extra information in essays even when it is correct information just adding to the paper.
If you want a good fair professor take Heeney's courses
Professor Heeney was very good and I would recommend him to anyone for this course.
Overall a very good professor. His lectures were hard to sit through.
Lectures were tough to sit through, very very boring. All work is done online and is pretty easy. I had to write about 7 essays for the class all around 650 words. He likes to engage with the class and see how students feel about topics. Will explain if you need him to, but often makes you feel silly for not fully understanding something.
Quizzes are tough very particular about final exam time.
I was in tutoring online and in person. I read every single page of the textbook and I did the study guide but I still failed every single test he ever gave. I am a decently good test taker but everything that was on his study guide was not on the test so it was hard to study for a test I didn't what it was on. I ended up dropping the class.
This guy does not care about his students. His grading makes no sense, you need a 95.8% to get an A. Constant essays, 1000+ words with unclear rubric and grading. Homework every week, 5 quizzes throughout the semester. He does have some extra point opportunities after every quizz/ final. He is very inconsiderate though, can't count on him.
