Pretty good teacher. His classes are very clear. He is also very helpful if you have problems.
Amazing teacher! He knows his material very well and he's very passionate with math. Very highly recommended
very great teacher and very funny (if you like nerd humour). exams are easy enough if you've studied the assignments and kept up with the material.
At first I didnt like him. But be prepared to take lots of notes. Most of it is straight from the textbook. Midterms were tough but doable. He is a great marker and is very generous with part marks. Compared to the Shiri class it was worth going to a friday night lecture. I heard Shiri's class average.
Great teacher. Great jokes. What a character.
He doesn't give any homework, good for those who don't have a lot of time to do assignments. Generous grader, final exam has an option of 100% (if you fail your midterm like me you still have a chance to get an A). Highly recommend.
One of the worst teachers I ever had. Doesn`t teach or explain material, just does the homework in class. Would not recommend if you want to learn anything.
Good teacher, very helpful, he will try his best to make you understand, I enjoyed his class
Very good teacher.Clear explanations, good English. Assignements are hard but if you do them, tests are easy.
Dr. Hughes is an extremely nice professor with incredible patience, personality, and knowledge. Although his lectures sometimes could be somewhat dry, he was always there for helping students who had difficulty doing the textbook questions, webwork problems, and quiz practice problems. Clear explanation, perfect English, and great sense of humour!
This course required me to do a lot of work, such as weekly online assignments, recommended questions of each chapter, and also irregular tutorial quizzes. Since I put great efforts into this course, ultimately I got an A+ and I was quite happy with my final grade. This was a great course for practising my math skills. Thanks for your help, Thomas!
He's a great teacher, makes the material easy to understand. His exams are extremely easy compared to other teachers teaching the course
Just take him, he is good one.
Very good teacher! Very funny! He knows his stuff. TAKE HIM!
Really nice guy, approachable, very clear explanations.
Excellent professor, explains things clearly.
just awesome. I've never found it so easy to understand math.
Very intelligent and charismatic , impossible to fail.
Awesome teacher, one of my favorites, would love to take one of his classes again.
Just take the class! You won't regret it. One of my first teachers at Concordia I'm glad I took this course.
Mr. Hughes is a solid professor. He is not robotic and dry like most Concordia math profs. He will often stop in the middle of a lecture to share an anecdote or a piece of trivia related to the material of the day. On the downside, he tends to move quite fast. Nonetheless, he is always happy to answer your questions.
One of the best teachers so far in Concordia, I never rate profs but this one deserves fame! I loved going to his classes, topic was immensely easy! you would love this teacher, has a smile on his face! would defo take this class again, an easy A class
He's an amazing teacher. He teaches new topics by giving you the formula and then a few easy to follow examples. I will always choose him if i have the option.
Really good prof, helped me a lot. He goes through things clearly and provides a lot of examples in detail. Take him you won't regret it!
Doesn't only explain theory, but solves many problems in class. As long as you keep up with the material every week you'll be fine. Make sure you attend the lectures!
He is always solving problems in class, and he is very clear in his explanations. I would take again anytime.
Classes are very interesting and enjoyable. Does many examples and explains everything clearly.
He explains very clearly what you need to know to do well on the exams and prepares you well for subsequent courses. Does not really spend time on proofs, just shows you how do ace the exam. Moves very fast though, you have to be prepared for class, (I.e. review material before lecture) to benefit from his style.
If you like fast and 50% easy. Take him. He explains so fast and do so many examples. But he does not provide past midterms or past finals to study. You have to find them.
He has been the best teacher that I have ever had,so inspirational and trying to tell the joke a lot during the class to not be boring, teaching excellent and if you give him any midterm or final he will solve for all the class for all students' benefit. I got my first A+ in concordia with him not just because he is a good marker bcz I studied well
Mr Hughes is a great teacher overall but he is going very fast on the topics, it's not that easy to follow him sometimes especially when you write your notes he doesn't really let us the time to complete it.
Great professor, He explained everything very well. he's chilled, after i missed 4 assignment deadlines because of personal reasons he unlocked the assignments for me again. his sense of humor is math oriented and somehow funny Check the multimedia tab on mymathlab, in case theres something you dont understand in class, they have it there explained
Example heavy prof. The class bounces from one topic to the next so if you miss class you most likely missed a whole topic that you will need to learn on your own. Assignments make sure you keep up to speed. Prof has a very subtle and quirky way of being hilarious. Not the most involved but definitely good at teaching.
Excellent! Good professor!
This prof is a gem. He explains things clearly, helps you to understand the material very well. He is approachable after class. Whenever students ask questions he is there for you. He helps you to grab the key words in questions and teaches you how to read questions, what are the specific steps for answering. Will take again
Clear explanations and knows how to keep the subject matter from being too boring. Funny guy!
One of the best teachers I have ever had! Approachable and funny, and his lectures are well paced, easy to follow, and not boring. He doesn't really do many proofs, just a ton of examples, which is how math should be taught. If you can take this guy, take him. You won't regret it.
good teacher doesnt waste anytime and is to the point with his lectures
Mr. Hughes is an amazing math professor. He does so many past exam exercises for each chapters and encourage us to find past finals so we can do it in class. He goes so fast, but it's somehow easy to understand and catch up. Although, no matter how hard he tries to help us, the final is always tricky... Anyway, take him. He is better than others.
His lecture pace is lightning quick, meaning if you haven't read ahead you may find class a little tough. However, he will straight up solve passed exams and homework problems in detail to ensure the ball is in the student's court. He makes classic "dad" jokes which was awesome. Math is hard and he can't change that, but he's one of the best.
Loves to randomly stop and tell a joke which can sometimes be alarming when the material he's covering is difficult and you want to focus. His explanations are clear and if you get lucky and he writes your exam and midterm their a little easier than other profs.
a very good professor, he is a little bit fast, but there is no way going out of the class without understanding the material clearly.
Really a great teacher. Thomas is clear, funny and approachable.
THE BEST! He is super sweet and funny. Teaches entire course thoroughly. DO NOT SKIP CLASS! I guarantee you that if you go to class and participate in the practice questions he conducts and do your homework each week you will ace the course.
By far the best Math 209 Professor, he explains very clearly and is extremely caring.
The teacher's always prepared for his lectures and he knows the course's material in detail. He makes it easy to understand and crack a joke here and there to make sure we're not asleep. I recommend taking him for math 208.
I highly recommend taking him for Math 209. He's very clear in his lectures and takes the time to explain and answer questions. Extremely caring and funny as well as he really seems to care about what he teaches. Take this professor!
He's hilarious and the lectures are amazing.
Would definitely take again, one of the best professors. He makes the material very easy to understand. If i can take him for all my courses i wouldnt say no. You miss a class you got a lot to catch up to.
So far, he's the best math teacher I have taken. I attended his evening classes. He explained the material very well, always answered questions and cracked a few math "dad" jokes to lighten up the mood and keep us awake.
He is a very good prof for math , the lectures are a bit heavy but he is detailed
He is by far the best Professor at Concordia. Extremely intelligent makes math seem like a
He is the best professor for math, he goes through material really fast , but he covers every aspect/possibility of question type. Take his class if you get a chance
Thomas is a great math prof. Detailed in his explanations, does many exam-type problems. You go into the midterm and final super prepared. Do the homework, go to class, practice past exams and it's easy to do well. He's funny and knows how to keep his students' attention. Definitely recommend
really good teacher, one of the few good teachers at Concordia, 1 thing I learned from taking classes at Concordia is there is usually 1 good teacher per course, for math 208, this guy is the good teacher, highly reccomend
MY FAV !!!
takes the time to go over a lot of examples while still making theory accessible. Loved it !
Hughes is arguably the sweetest man ever, he loves math so much and it shows. He takes his time with his explanations and makes sure everyone understands him. You should 100% take this class, I can't imagine surviving calculus without him.
Thomas is a great teacher, makes MATH209 which is considered to be a difficult course, a lot less difficult. He's available for questions and is generally helpful. If you attend his class and practice the problems you should have no issues passing this class. Have taken many math classes and can confirm that he is one of the better teachers.
Amazing teacher that knows how to prepare his students for the final. He even manages to amuse the class during his lectures with an interesting repertoire of math jokes.
Attendance is a must; he doesnt post anything online. Hes a very good prof, he explains really clearly & does lots of examples (linear algebra & calculus). He also makes frequent math jokes, it makes the class a little less boring. However, he is tough grader... Be sure to carefully read the problems and answer in a complete sentence.
He is absolutely an extraordinary professor, always explaining the content in a very easy and humous way. In his class, you can get a good command of all without too much acquirement. Lots of students in other sections came to our section because of his reputation. DO NOT HESITATE TO CHOOSE HIM.
Excellent professor, probably the best you could get for Math 204. Always ready to help and solve your problems. Targetted learning is what he is best at, he made us practice problems which had the highest probability to be on the paper. Has clear grading criteria and loves to crack jokes in class. Lectures are not too heavy and are often fun.
Just take his class, this man is an angel, he's down to earth and ready to answer your questions without being condescending. That's how ALL professors should be, but in reality, most Concordia professors are just trash and you'll realize that he's a rarity.
He never or even tries try to reply your email on-time. I had many questions to ask him but he just does not respond to it.
Bad impression at first because I asked him very simple questions and his response was 'if you have difficulty understanding this you shouldn't take this class'. And still didn't respond. My impression now is that adapting to online teaching is difficult and answer math questions via e-mail sucks. Otherwise, organized notes humorous kind loves math
One of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are fun and easy to follow, personally a fan of his jokes XD. Tests are tricky but prepare you well for the final.
Super nice guy, has very good notes, and always loves to tell you little tips and tricks as you go through the course. His jokes are math nerd cheesy but it shows his personality. Definitely take him, he'll help you through the class, and you don't need to read the textbook to do well. His tests are tough but he prepares you well for the final.
Online lectures were very fun. He has a very unique (and hillarious) repertoire of math/science jokes. However, he is prone of making small mistakes and typos during class so you'll need to pay attention. Doing textbook exercises is essential, and I also recommend reading the corresponding chapter before classes (it can be found for free).
HE IS AWESOME WITH HIS JOKES! He is very lovely.
WISH I HAD THIS PROF FIRST! this is my second time taking math 203, hes so amazing I feel like anyone taking this course with another teacher is just wasting their time. He also makes jokes and engages his students. So amazing!
I really loved the class! He was knowledgable, funny, and kind. His notes and teaching style were excellent and he made me excited to learn more math.
My 2 years here at Concordia, never had I ever thought to write a rating for a professors but Thomas Hughes deserves one. He is by far the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He made me love coming to class and shockingly made me love Linear. He is funny, nice & caring of his students. Also, his notes are very identical to the final which is key!!!
You saw his name? Just TAKE him ALREADY!!
THE GREATEST PROF IN THE WORLD!
He cares his students really. He always makes sure that you understand the material.
The lectures were 30min and the rest of the time was dedicated to his anecdotes. Never felt overwhelmed or stressed in this class.
Professor Hughes Is an amazing prof. He's very approachable, tells jokes in class and knows how to explain the material. He writes practice problems compete with step by step answers for each topic in the course. If there's anything you don't understand he has no problem explaining in a different more detailed way, all you have to do is ask.
I totally recommend taking a class with Mr Hughes if you have a chance. He always makes sure that everybody understands the subject and he's always available at the end of the class to have a chat and answers your questions. A genius in Math, totally passionate about it, and the kindest teacher I've ever had !
He is nice but his notes are repetitve and dont cover everything. To understand the notes you have to attend class. Also dont rely on him to know whats on the exams cuz he lies about whats on them. Study more than he tells you. Very rude by email as well.
Decent lectures, I found a good way to review for the midterm and final were by doing past exams. Overall a nice guy, however somtimes notes were a little messy and didnt explain the content well on their own.
Dr. Hughes is a very kind and well spoken professor, who tries his best to make the lectures engaging and informative. Unfortunately, this course is cursed with a dreadful examiner through no fault of Dr. Hughes, making his job of getting students to pass the exams more difficult than it needs to be. Regardless, he is a great choice for Math 204.
THE BEST PROFESSOR in the Math Department. All the notes are posted in Moodle enables you to self-study, but his lecture is definitely an asset that saves you a lot of time. He also provides accurate information for exams and gives us tricks for dealing with the finals to get the highest score as possible.
Don't even bother watching his lecture videos they are too short and simplified in comparison to the Webwork and mid-term questions. Not a hard class and can do well but be prepared to teach the material to yourself through YouTube and practice. Also, the final exam will be in person with no cheat sheet or formula sheet.
Studying with Professor Thomas Hughes will make you one of the fortunate ones. The data's clarity and flow will help you succeed in a subject as complicated as math.
DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take this class with this professors. He is by far one of the WORST professors I've ever had. He never replies to emails and gets annoyed when you ask him for help. Save your money and your gpa. Nothing that he told us to study was on the exam!
Rly great prof, goes through the material quickly but efficiently (like even his jokes r relevant). His notes cover all the webwork/exam material & he includes solved sample problems, didn't even need to open the textbook once. Near exams, a bunch of other students even started listening in to his lectures he's just that good.
