I don't recommend anyone take his course.
Helpful outside of class, if you're sincere. His class may be difficult with what he expects you to know, but you will never forget! Especially good to take Juster if you plan on continuing in geology. I totally would recommend him!
Very enthusiastic about geology. The course was changed to online and that was even better. We just had to do a few activities that required going to the class. And took quizzes on our own, you can take them as many times as you want! I definatly recommend this course!
I took Hazards of the Earth online it was supposed to be very easy instead there was so much busy work you had to complete to get an A Dr. Juster grades very hard- and he wasnt much help with you email him. Classes would have been easy if not for the activities and poster requirements.
Very easy class if you are happy with a 'C' You just have to take the quizzes online, which you can take over until you are satisfied with your grade. Digital Poster does require a lot of research for a 'B'. Must do extra activities for an 'A' I liked the class and would recommend it.
It's listed as a lecture class but the clown makes a point of letting us know that he doesn't lecture anyway. And don't get me started on how boring he is... he must have been out back taking a leak when they were giving out personalities. No wonder so many people have dropped the class.
Dr. Juster does not teach...at all! He gives us crap assignments to do every week...then we have "help sessions" in which he doesnt answer the question... he just BSes it the whole time. The tests are REALLY hard... all short answer...no multiple choise. Whatever you do... do not take this class!
Don't take this class it really sucks
He didn't teach or lecture. You have to do study guides that are around 4 pages long for each chapter. He holds "help sessions" but it doesnt answer any questions. If you are self motivated and dont mind learning the whole book on your own then you would like this class. If not, find another teacher.
This guy chooses against teaching and instead goes over homework and does classwork. The catch is at the end of class he does his little "help sessions" which is us students asking him questions. His test are all short answer, NO MULTIPLE CHOICE WHAT SO EVER. ADVOID THIS CLASS AND OR TEACHER!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS...It was way to hard to just be a freshman level lecture class..all tests were short answer, nearly impossible to pass
No Comments
omg never take this class, theres alot of classwork, and the exams are really hard, nine pages of short answer/long asnwer questions. he also expects you to know all this backround in the subject for new topics. i am so sorry i took this class.
this is a horrible teacher, he gives too much work, I did all of the activities and read the book and went to class and ended up with a D. Most of the class got c's d's and f's.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! did all the work went to every class and failed... out of the 400+ students that were in it about 40 were there for the final... tests are 9-10 pages of short answer and essays, imposible to get anything above a "C"
basically alot of work. he has alot of concern for the students but no one bothers to go see him to ask q's or go to class. how the **** are you about to pass a class if u never go? thats not the teachers fault thats yours. SORRY!
this class is so hard its funny. spring 2005 over 50% fail rate. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. there are activities every class, and if you come in like 3 min late he will not let you turn them in. THE TESTS ARE LONG AND SHORT ANSWER NO MULTIPLE CHOICE AT ALL!!!! impossible to pass somtimes even with the 15 point + curves. i repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS class
dont ever take this class. this teacher is the most ridiculous teacher ive had yet. test are insane, and impossible to pass. and you dont even learn anything during the classes
TERRIBLE! He doesn't know what the purpose of a bridge is and I earned my first "C" ever in this class. There is no clarity and the volume of work is insane for a 3 credit hour class to fufil a basic gen ed requirement. Run away from this man.
this class isnt that hard, and now that there are recitations this year, the T.A.s make it a bit easier... the tests, although difficult, are no longer just short essays, but multiple choice 2... as long as you go to all of you assigned classes, and read the book(it helps)you should pass with a C @ least.it may be a pain, but its possible to pass.
The subject of the course is not hard at all, but he makes it hard simply because he fails to get the class to see what the point of the material. You can study the notes in class, go to recitation, and read the text for days and still won't come out with an A or B. Bottom line, find another professor who teaches this course if you want to pass.
This class was very interesting. A lot of notes, but he is very knowledgable in the field. If you go to class and actually take notes, the tests aren't bad at all. The only kids I know that said it was hard were never in class.
I have never had this much trouble in any class. I went to lecture AND recitation and still could not pass his exams. I would not recommend this class to anyone. Terrible experience all together.
This class sounds like an interesting and easy course but it is definitly not. If you are looking for an easy science class I do NOT recommend this class, unless you are that interested in rocks. I ended up dropping because no matter how much or hard I studied i never got higher than a D. Plus he didn't curve the grades.
I went to class everyday and did the work but I never got anything higher than a D in his class. He expects you to do all of the learning by yourself and does not teach AT ALL! Do not take this class, if you can avoid it. He gets very excited about geology and forgets that the students do not have the same knowledge as he does about the subject.
He's always on vacaction and never there. He probably bust a nut to the geology book every night. He can not explain anything clearly and he is a terrible teacher. He doesn't care about the students learning. He teaches the course like a graduate course and it is INTRO. Never got higher than a D.
Basically, go to recitations and you'll be fine. It's true that his tests are pretty hard. I haven't gotten higher than a C...but he is a great professor. He knows his stuff and tries to help you out the best he can. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Contrary to what others said, he was always in class and will help you any way he can.
Look, the class is NOT easy. But if you read the notes that he types up for you online, go to recitation and be at as many lectures as you can stand, you'll be fine. I got a C on the first test and a B on the second because I knew more his style by the second one. The tests are 25 multiple choice and short answer. You have to work for the grade
I loved this class. Granted the tests were kind-of hard and I got way below average, I still managed to pull off an A. He knows his stuff and will help you as much as he can. There is also a lot of extra credit offered (none of which I did). Go to all recitations, do your homework, and the class will be a lot better for you.
He was a very charismatic professor, however his lectures were boring & not on the exams. If you read his notes (not the powerpoints) you should do okay on the exams. On the first exam I studied from the textbook and got an F. On the second exam I studied from his notes and got a C. He also has his third term exam & final on the same day.
Cool teacher. He grades fairly and offers much extra credit, such as field trips. He also knew a lot about the course and actually showed profound interest in the subject, and questions. I learned a lot, especially about global warming. - RJ
GREAT PROFESSOR! Take his class, you will actually learn something.
Great teacher.
BEAST!!! Juster is a good teacher. He puts enthusiasm into the subject and gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. The tests can be pretty hard, but as long as you consistently show interest or show an improvement he'll leave you with a good grade.
He's a great professor who will actually teach you something and make the class interesting. Tests are pretty tough and studying for them isn't any easier, but he gives a lot of extra credit and as long as you try he'll give you a good grade.
Oceanography is suppose to be an easy online class. Not with this guy. All of the papers are graded by TAs who give you C's for not having enough paragraphs in a 300 word essay. I considered dropping the class because of how difficult it was for being such a useless class for my major (Nursing).
My friend and I took this class online together. We both had different TAs, which was significant to our grades. The essays are ridiculous. I didn't learn about the ocean until the last couple weeks. Too stressful for an elective.
First off there is a paper due every single week and a quiz's are also due every week. expect papers to be single spaced 350-1500 words. you do get 2 extra credits but do not ask for any extensions because he will not give any all. Also computer problems are internet problem are not excuses. you also really dont learn about the ocean at all.
Possibly one of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. His exams are incredibly difficult because of how specific your details need to be but whether you get a D or an A, you will learn more than you ever thought you would. Highly recommended for any engineer. Super helpful professor
I took the class via internet. It was a lot more work than I expected. The class takes a lot more time than expected, especially for an internet class. The professor was actually very helpful when I talked to him. The T.A.'s I could never get a hold of. I have a problem with my grade and it's been over 6 weeks and still have not received an answer.
He is a great professor. You will learn a lot in his class. He get's a bit carried away with the work load though. However, he gives you a study guide for everything. So you can get an A, just how much time you have. However, I took this class, geology for engineers, hoping it would be a break...and it's not. Overall, very helpful and nice
As a speaker/presenter he excels...very informative & has many slides etc. What he absolutely sucks at: determining time needed for his "quizes"/tests, explaining on exactly WHAT he wants as an answer; he only gives points for specific answers but asks broad questions. He uses no book...you will have LOADS of material to read\view. Not recommended.
This class isn't easy at all. It's very tough and challenging. The professor is really good, he knows his subject well and he loves what he is doing. His tests are pretty tough and hard. His grading is also hard, due to how specific he wants students to be. Attendance is mandatory due to in-class work worth up to 35% of the grade.
anyone who thinks Dr. Juster is hard is either not interested in Geology at all or does not want to put in any effort or time. Follow the study guides for the tests and there's no way you should get below a 95. MasteringGeology is a little time consuming but not hard. He gives extra credit on tests plus drops a bunch of stuff.
There are hard portions of the class like the exams, he is always willing to help and aid. You can email any questions from the very similar practice exams, theres online discussion before every exam, and you can even you the people around you after a certain point. It was a time consuming class but ive never seen anyone as passionate about rocks.
Brilliant geologist, knows a lot of engineering related work too. LOTS of participation needed, too much i.m.o. He requires a good understanding of the subject matter, and there is a bunch of subject matter. I'm a senior and I've never had so many different assignments count towards my grade. Borderline ridiculous. Overall, great teacher.
Dr. J is very passionate about geology. He obviously wants people to have a fair understanding of the material covered in his class (and he covers a lot of material). You'll need to study a good amount for this class (there's no such thing as an easy-A here), but it is a 3000 level course. Don't be afraid. Roll your sleeves up and get to work.
This class if by far the most time consuming class i have ever had to take. It is simple and straightforward, you get out of it what you put in it. It is a lot of work though. Mr Juster is a good teacher and is ready to help when ever it is needed. He wants everyone to have high grades, but no one gets them without working hard and deserving them.
Class was not that bad. As long as you go to every class and take notes you should do well. Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives quizzes randomly so you should go so you can take them and get credit The exams are basically some of the questions off the study guide questions he gives. If you find all the answers and memorize them you will pass.
By far the hardest class I've taken at USF so far, not because of the material but the work overload! Professor Juster assigns SHORT online quizzes before each class (twice a week). The only way you can pass is if you've taken your time to thoroughly study and understand his online lectures. Classtime consists of worksheets that take up all class.
You have to work for it. There is a lot of homework every week. Tests are tough.
As far as a person, he is a great guy. But as far as a teacher, he is definitely not the best. He has a flip-classroom style of teaching which I personally find very inefficient. You practically spend 2 hours watching very monotone videos at home and in class all you do is homework, and ask him questions. His 15-20 minute lectures are pointless.
A RIDICULOUS amount of work outside of class hours. Haven't learned much that will help me as an engineer. There is one month to go.... He loves/knows geology, but needs to remember that he is instructing an engineering class. Zero logic, all memorization. I like Geology less now bc of all the busy work which sucks because I actually like him.
Doctor Juster is a great professor and very understanding. He does give tons of homework, but his grading criteria is very fair. He wants his students to learn and succeed rather than just giving them a grade.
I had Juster for intro to earth and space science and he was great. He teaches all the material for the tests in class via lectures. There are 7 quizzes about textbook material taken out of class. He offers extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are activities (worth very little of your grade) given each class. He's very passionate!
This class was an easy B. Very much possible to get an A. He lets you know how class will work and sticks to this: lecture for 45 mins, activity/worksheet for 20-25 mins, 5-10 mins for quiz. Only 3 quizzes will be dropped. There are readings to do before each class but they're mostly videos. It's best if you take notes as needed.
Professor Juster is extremely passionate about this course and wanted to make sure that all of his students also left this class with some knowledge they did not have beforehand. If you take good notes in class and study for the exams with the questions he provides you, along taking notes from the book for online quizzes, you will do great.
Doctor Juster was a really good professor. He is very passionate about what he is teaching, and he'll be glad to answer your question. There is a lot of writing in this class, but that is to be expected, since it is a writing capstone class.
Dr. Juster is a super nice guy and works very hard at what he does. This was a writing capstone so of course there was a fair amount of writing, but instructions are clear and explicit and you have an opportunity to meet with him and revise. Attendance is pretty much a must and there are two presentations. Enjoyed the class!
Professor juster is a real gem! Hes so passionate about what he does and he genuinely wants to educate the students. On exams hes very lenient and gives credit whenever possible. He also posts questions to help you study for the weekly online quizzes over material in the textbook that never really corresponds to the topics we learn in class.
Dr. J is a true expert in his field, you can really tell he enjoys what he his teaching. Attendance wasn't mandatory, however, the exams are all based on what he talks about in the lectures so it is in your best interest to attend (plus his lectures are super interesting!)
Dr. J is really smart, but his class is hard (a lot of work)
Dr. J for Earth Science is great. 60% of your grade is online quizzes that he gives the test bank for. The rest is in class tests and activites.
One of the best profs Ive ever had. Passionate about the material and an engaging teacher. Made it so simple to understand, answered questions throughly in and out of class & gave great studying material for exams. If you show up youll pass. Big stickler for phones but thats about it. Its basically impossible to fail this class. Hes amazing.
It's so apparent to everyone how much Dr. J cares about his students learning science. Your grade is half based on online quizzes where you just have to prove "competency" in order to get a 100 which is great, and the other half is on exams. As long as you attend lectures this class is amazing, coming from an English major who hates science.
Was a very good professor. He truly is passionate about Geology which makes it much more interesting to learn. The class does take a lot of work, and skipping class isn't really an option as he gives in-class activities. The exams are also not bad and are not open book. He really tries his best to make sure you learn. I would advise you to take him
Juster is really enthusiastic about Earth Science, but there are two parts to class. Online (textbook use) you answer 70 questions to then take a quiz that you can use your answers on. In-class (lectures, no textbook), you do class assignments and learn about what is going to be on the super-hard exams. In-class and online learning don't crossover
One of my favorite professors this past semester. Very nice and understanding and I found myself genuinely enjoying the material being taught. Dont skip class, theres lots of in-class activities. Ive only ever seen him get mildly upset when someone has their phone out during class, which is fair. Dont underestimate the first exam.
Completing the 80 question study guides for the chapter quizzes are the most time consuming part. But easy because the answers are right in the TB and you can use that study guide when u take the quiz. There is also 4 exams, This is hardest part of the class because you have to study that material, however, theres lots of space for extra credit!
Terrible professor. The class has nothing to do with engineering, it is not on the FE but you need to spend more time studying than any other course if you want to pass. If you miss classes you will miss in-class assignments and will hurt you but he will also try everything to fail you even manipulate your grades. Compare test scores with others!
I absolutely LOVED doctor Juster. You can tell how much effort he puts into his classes and he genuinely tries to make his lectures interesting (which they are!). Hands down the most interesting class I've ever taken and best professor I've ever had. He's a super fun guy and cares a lot about you and your grades. 10/10 would reccommend!
My main issue with this class is the coursepolicy. Its very easy to fall into the category of cheating. The exams had poor security. It didnt use proctorio, lockdown browser, or had some variety in questions. At one point he allowed us to the internet and YouTube to do the exam. If he suspects cheating he will ruthlessly punish you. (No 2nd chance
worst professor ever. doesn't give partial credit even though he said that he would. doesn't teach at all you have to read a lot of articles that are copy-paste from google. he doesn't bother to do a power point to make it easier for us. It's my third year and I haven't had a professor as bad as him. BE CAREFUL BEFORE YOU TAKE HIM.
Worst professor ever ! This class took me more time to study than dynamics and mechanics of materials together !!! It is ridiculous, it is sooo much material he expects you to complete about 10 quizzes every two days. SO MUCH MATERIAL. He does not explain anything unless you have a specific question. Grades horribly! Avoid him if you can
He is sadly completely disconnected from the class. Im not a geology major, so 90% of his info Ill never see again. He gives unnecessarily complicated tests that have nothing to do with engineering. Frankly, I dont know why the school lets him teach this course. Its unnecessary stress for students who are taking upper-level mathematics.
Ive been in college for a few years and never had such a bad professor. I dont even have words to describe his teaching, all I can say is that he is definitely lazy, disorganized. He expects should to watch so many videos and read articles, so many quizzes and hw, he thinks this is the only class youre taking. Tests are unnecessarily hard! Bigno
I would literally avoid going to that university just to avoid this horrible professor. He is nice but his expectations are above beyond. His tests are ridiculous, you better have this class only if you want to pass it. Unnecessary workload, JUST NO!!!!
You will be teaching the material to yourself in this class with all the readings and videos that he posts on Canvas. He does not specify what he wants on his assignments and the TA can't help because he does not tell him anything about what he expects.
Nice professor, work is about average for most classes, material is interesting and his lectures are not boring. Would take again.
Amazing professor! He makes his lectures super interesting. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches which makes it easy to stay engaged in his material. He wants his students to understand the content so don't be afraid to ask questions. The grade was composed of 3 exams and the labs. 100% would recommend!
He will tell you it is not a memorization class then on the exams requires you to know every single detail he mentioned in all of his videos. This is mainly a memorization class with some conceptual things. You will be introduced to brand new information that you will never need to know again but are required to know for exams.
Well I know many people say beware of feedback on RMP but the only thing I can tell you is stay away from this guy. This evil professor gave the class 6 quiz every 3 days and 4 chapters per test with no notes. Yeah this man like to see you suffer no lie this class will require a lot of time so you been warn.
GEO 3280. Flip-flop class: cant get an 80% on your online quizzes which are due before class? now you cant go to class and receive your classwork. which btw is due at the end of class and is 30% of your grade. sucks bro you're stuck. Save yourself. run.
This is a flipped class and it is important you do the notes or else you will not be able to complete the in-class activity. There is an in-class activity every class so its important to show up. Exams are fairly easy if you study what he tells you to.
This class is interesting but NOT an easy A like i assumed when i registered. Be prepared for many hours a week dedicated to his online quiz's which is where all your study material comes from. passionate professor who is very willing to work with you, do not miss class if you can avoid it.
