This guy is an awesome instructor. He's very explicit in what he wants you to know for tests, and very helpful. If you have to take genetics, this guy is the way to go.
Very helpful and prepared for class! Make sure you do read his lecture notes and do the questions at the end of the chapters.
Kidd is awesome. 'nuff said.

Very difficult professor for difficult course. Lectures put everyone to sleep. Test's are outrageous!! Do not take this professor if you are taking any other tough courses. He told class himself that there is a 50% failure rate. Don't think he is doing his job. That is ridiculous.
A good class with some difficult conceptual material. Just like O-Chem or Physics, a short sit-down every week to do chapter problems ensures a B or higher. students are love/hate with Kidd, but those who hate Kidd usually have very little interest in learning the material. If you do have an interest in genetics, the class and the Prof are great.
One of the best Biology teachers at UNR. Knows his material very well and is excellent in presenting it to his students. His exams are very fair, and with enough effort/studying, you will succeed in his class with both the grade you want as well as retaining conceptual information that will be useful for your future Biology-related career.
He's a fabulous teacher for a challenging subject. If you go to lecture and just listen you'll understand when you read the book and do well on tests.
Very genial, approachable, and nice guy. Made material relevant and understandable. This is a lab section so the TA did most of the teaching but he did teach me a lot during his office hours and down time while talking. Great prof who knows what he is talking about.
ohh, I just love that guy, his class is so fun. he explains everything very well, and he make us lough, very lovely person, i would love to take every course he gives
Amazing Teacher. I wish I could take all of my bio classes with him. Very clear in what is expected, and always willing to help explain something you don't understand. GREAT sense of humor. He REALLY does care how you are doing in the class, and in general!
Ofcourse the TA was there n' all, but he was nice enough to show up to every class. He's very helpful and throws in some jokes. He has a cute accent. As for the class, it's pretty much graded by the TA. Make sure you turn in a draft, and don't procrastinate. You can get a really good grade if you get things done early, bcuz people usually get stuck
I'm not gonna lie, this class takes effort. The first half of the class was relatively easy because you already know the stuff from previous classes. The last part requires extensive reading, though. You really need to understand the concepts to do well on his tests. Overall, I read the entire book and got an A.
Dr. Kidd is a great professor! In fact, I'd suggest taking him whenever he is offered for genetics. I've heard sketchy reviews of other genetics professors but Dr. Kidd exceeded my expectations as a professor. He is extremely helpful and extremely clear. The course was interesting and applicable! Highly recommended.
Dr. Kidd is a very smart man and he has a lot of experience in genetics; however, he expects way too much from students. His exams were hard and you really had to study fortunately he gives you sample exams. The final is very difficult- take caution.
Great, friendly teacher.
Tests seem tricky while you're taking them, but turns out OK. He is witty when you aren't expecting it, which keeps things interesting. He gives a break in the middle of class to wake you up.
Kidd is a nice guy and an effective teacher. His tests are really not that hard, but they do require a respectable amount of mastery over the subject material. He posts like 10 practice tests that are very similar to his actual tests. Do his practice tests, and you'll be fine. PS: the subject matter is extremely boring and will make you fall asleep
Dr. Kidd is a great teacher. I felt that his curves on tests were too generous. Besides that, I have no complaints. Definitely take him if you can!
Dr. Kidd knows his material, but the class is really boring especially when he reads the PowerPoints. It was hard to motivate myself with the material. The TA I had a hard time remembering the material so going to the extra SI sessions were pointless. Do the problems at the end of the book and keep with the material. Idk if Sandstrom is better.
Professor Kidd was very clear in what he wanted students to learn. His lectures are very interesting and very clear. Lots of guest lecturers that are for the most part interesting. Would definitely like to have Professor Kidd as a lecturer in the future
Professor Kidd was a great lecturer. His lectures are interesting and informative and he has a good sense of humor. I really enjoyed his class and would take more classes with him.
Boring lectures, class was disorganized.
I loved Professor Kidd. He's witty and funny and keeps class interesting. There's three tests, which aren't hard if you study. He drops your lowest score at the end of the semester. He gave back 112 points to help students out at the end of this semester. He really wants you to pass. Random quizzes though so I would attend class every day
He is a good Professor! This class interesting and engaging. You will need to get Learning Technologies Clicker and that is how he takes attendance. His exams are are short like 15-30 questions. The lectures also include students and professors on campus doing research related to Neuroscience.
Study guide outlines exactly what you need to know for his exams. At the end of the course he just gave out extra credit for no reason (like 5% of my grade). Study and you'll succeed
Dr. Kidd has dry humor that people have a difficult time reading through, which makes him come off as boring at times (when he reads off the slides). The class is designed to get you interested in Neuroscience so it is suupppeerrrr easy. Don't forget to do the "hw" (literally just write one sentence once a week so he knows you went to class).
Great class, easy to understand.
He tries to be funny but often times comes off to strong. The study guides are just like the tests. It's an interesting class and pretty easy if you study and go to review sessions.
Mr. Kidd is a hilariously satirical British man, who provides just as much humor in his lectures as he does facts. This course was an adequate intro to neuroscience, and should be a cake walk if you've taken Bio 190. He really wants the class to succeed, adding extra credit all the time if grades start to fall. Attendance is not mandatory, but go!
Dr. Kidd is by far one of my favorite professors. I personally really like his dry humor, it makes things interesting and enjoyable. He cares about his students and is willing to talk/advise and was just appointed for being a mentor. I hope to see him lecture future courses.
Hands down my favorite UNR professor. Very clear in lectures, covers material repeatedly according to student feedback. Makes sure students are on track to do well if they study, very fair grader. Tests have curves and are very learnable. Thomas is passionate and very smart, but very clearly explains the material. Favorite class ever.
Dr. Kidd tries to encourage students to pursue careers in neuroscience that aren't exactly medical, so he often invites many guest lectures in hopes of inspiring the class. Although he is a bit monotone in voice, he has a dry sense of humor and provides great study guides and review sessions.
Dr. Kidd is phenomenal! I took his easy 105 class and I am now in his difficult 466. You MUST read the book to pass the tests. His dry British humor is amazing, and he loves the subject. I went to his office to ask a simple non-related question (interest) and he spent 30 minutes researching it for me! Great guy with a great heart. Take his class.
This class was probably the hardest class I have ever taken. If I knew before I would never it. Tests are close to impossible and theres barely a curve on any of them. Although kidd was a very nice and helpful professor the overall class was nearly impossible.
I found the class to be difficult, but it is a 400 level class. Dr. Kidd is passionate and hilarious. He always incorporates modern-medicine and the twisted game of God that researchers play into his lectures. This class is so interesting! Favorite material thus far in college. VERY FAIR grader takes a long time to grade tests because of it.
Kidd is a really great professor BUT THIS CLASS WAS CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE! The material in the class was very heavy and not very interesting because there was so much you are required to memorize to understand one small concept. Tests were very challenging even though I spent AT LEAST 5 hours a day studying for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!
Kidd is a really awesome professor. He explains in detail about the material presented and always answers questions. Don't be afraid to ask him to explain something better because he's always apt to help. He gave a few extra credit opportunities which boosted my grade 3% and he drops the lowest test grade from the first three which is awesome.
He is a great professor, however, he is a bit monotone. His lectures are pretty good and he gives study guides. If you attend class and do the study guide, you will do well on the test. He is a really nice guy who cares about science and us as students.
I loved Professor Kidd, he is so passionate and really wants you to succeed. He makes it very hard for you to fail his class if you participate and show up. He makes it so easy to the point where he creates a study guide for you. Engage and get on his good side, he loves when people go to his office hours. So educated and helpful.
He is super nice and interesting. He gives study guides for tests and if you study that your guaranteed an A.
He's mean. As a human being he's the worst, but as a professor he is good.
I love professor kidd, I had him for biol 105 and thought he was great and got an A. Then a took biol 466 and it was a different ball game. It is a very tough subject. I think professor kidd knows its difficult and tries to curve and give guidance. he is a great professor, but I am fighting tooth and nail for a B, which I think im going to get a C
Dr. Kidd is amazing. This was easily my favorite class I've taken and I'm a senior. It is definitely not easy but I'm pretty sure I ended with a very high A because of curves. Tests are some MC and free response. If you make quizlets from the slides and read the textbook for clarification then the class isn't that difficult.
Best prof. for this class. Definitely take him. Very easy to get an A if you put in the work.
Dr. Kidd was awesome. I only had him for an intro class, but it's been a great semester! The content of his lectures is very clear and goes directly on the tests, he doesn't give much homework, both textbooks you need are free and online. Overall he just wants to help!
There are 4 test, he drops the lowest test score. The class is mostly memorization. There are in class assignments sometimes as a way to check attendance. They are super easy. He also has homework assignments but they are few and far between. Those assignments are easy as well and are meant to give you extra points.
Lectures are very interesting and study guides set you up for success on tests.
Dr Kidd was a phenomenal professor. His lectures are entertaining and he brings guest lecturers every once in a while. Just complete the few homework assignments and you will pass with an easy A, as long as you study for the exams as well. He gives study guides and the study guides are extremely helpful with the exam. 100% recommend! Amazing prof!
Dr. Kidd was a fantastic professor. His lectures were interesting and I loved going to his class. His tests are easy as long as you look over his study guide, the powerpoint slides, and readings he assigned. His guest lecturers were amazing and always worth showing up for. Dr. Kidd is incredibly nice and super approachable. I will miss his class
Dr. Kidd was a very knowledgeable and thorough professor. Your grade is dependent on three midterms and a final, but he drops the lowest midterm. There are occasional homework assignments, usually accompanying a guest speaker lecture. Make sure to go to class because he has a few in-class assignments that can quickly add up. Overall, an easy A!
He was great. His lectures were interesting and made neuroscience exciting. The tests were straightforward, and he dropped a test. He also curves a lot. I needed a 95 on the final to get an A, he curved it and I got 106 on the final in the end. He made the Na/K channel easy to understand and gave us ways of remembering different concepts.
Prof, Kidd is honestly one of the best teacher I have ever had in my life. His class is relatively easy as long as you go to class and pay attention and read a bit, which isn't hard because he makes his lectures interesting. He does some times assign pop quizzes if he notices people are not attending. But they are exceedingly easy.
Nice guy with occasional fun lectures, but the majority of the time he just reads the info on the slides. Felt like I had no reason to show up.
Dr. Kidd was an interesting professor, he's very blunt. His slides are all online so if you skip class, just make sure to check if there are assignments. He has in class assignments once in a while and whenever there are guest lecturers. Make sure to study and read, and you'll be fine for tests. Go to office hours for clarification on anything.
Took him for intro to neuroscience and he made the class incredibly easy. There are 3 exams and a cumulative final but he drops one exam. He has guest lectures once a week and has a simple assignment after each one to make sure you were there. Dad humor and a bit awkward but a really good teacher. Definitely take him.
He is a super good professor and knows exactly what he is talking about. You should show up to class and take notes in order to pass. He doesn't make attendance mandatory but does give in class assignments that can only be turned in that day.
He's a great guy, just very difficult material. With the 3 exams, knowing all material is very hard so I'd suggest keeping up with the reading. Project, homework, quizzes, and extra credit immensely help out your grade. Attend class, do the reading, and study well in advance and you should be alright!
Prof Kidd is an awesome professor. I loved his class. He is great at adding in additional real-world application to his lectures, which makes it way more interesting! He's also so interested in student's success and works hard to make sure everyone feels understood. I will say that reading the assigned reading sections makes the exams way easier!
I wanted to come on here and leave a review for Dr. Kidd. I switched majors halfway through the semester and no longer needed his class, so I decided to drop it. Dr. Kidd was kind and caring and reached out to me to ensure I was okay. He's one of the good ones. Thank you, Dr. Kidd!
Professor Kidd made me laugh in every single class. He is a super cool guy and very intelligent. You do not need to worry about buying the required textbooks, as he makes sure he provides PDF versions. As long as you show up to class, whether it be in-person or on Zoom (HUGE BONUS!!) you will do just fine. :)
Such a great professor! Lectures are always entertaining! Attendance is not mandatory as he offers his lectures on zoom and record them if you miss class. Definitely make sure to keep up on your notes though, as the tests are pretty information heavy (study guides have like 100 terms to memorize).
He's an amazing professor, definitely recommend! You can tell he genuinely cares for his student's success. Plenty of chances for extra credit. The exams aren't too difficult if you attend lecture. The lectures are overall entertaining seeing as he adds a good amount humor. If you turn in the assignments and attend lecture, its an easy class!
Professor Kidd was brilliant! He gave his complete attention to students inside and out of class, and gave MULTIPLE extra credit opportunities ! The ready was not heavy , and he made sure to go over and over any topic that may be in the slightest bit confusing.
Dr Kidd is super understanding and flexible; he genuinely cares about his students. He offers extra credit and drops one of the three midterms. The only downside I have is that it is difficult to study from the slides, and since the textbook doesn't really sync up with what we are learning, it was hard to prepare for exams.
Kidd is the ideal professor. He really cares about his students and makes sure everything is clear. Really enjoyed the class and I really enjoyed Kidd. Only thing tho was the study guide was very hard to actually use for studying. Exams killed me but honestly still loved the class
I really like Professor Kidd and he cares about his students. He offers a lot of extra credit but his class is test heavy so studying is important. The material is pretty hard but if you pay attention you will be fine.
Prof Kidd is a fun guy. Minimal assignments but xtra credit provided. Study guides also provided, but was difficult to study off of. Difficult to understand information if not attending lectures. Exams are curved. Lots of guest lectures. Can be boring from time to time but overall an interesting person and class! Textbook also provided free online.
Professor Kidd was amazing !! i really liked him and i would take him again, he cares about us understanding the material and provided us with zoom if we couldn't make it to class. He also gave us lots of extra credit :) The exams were pretty simple, just understand the basics and memorize Everything
Professor Kid is great! He gives out a lot of extra credit and explains the material great. He's also easy to go to office hours. Just read over the material and take notes, it's not to difficult. He try's to make the lectures fun so that the students are engaged. Great professor!
dr. kidd is so sweet and very funny and his lectures were pretty interesting. he made it clear that he only wants to get people interested in neuro so he tries to keep the science minimal. the study guide are kind of difficult to study off of but he makes the important things clear. if you have to take this class, i would really recommend him.
Dr.Kidd is an amazing professor. He tries to cater lectures towards class interests but still gives you a good foundation. If you attend the lectures, the exams are pretty straight forward.
I really enjoy this Professor and he makes class enjoyable the class is just very information heavy.
Thanks to his neurosci intro class, I was confident in majoring in neurosci. His lectures were engaging & his tests were pretty easy, especially since he provided study guides. He also invited many guest speakers, which provided research opportunities & allowed me explore many neurosci-adjacent fields. Easily avail right after class & thru email
Kidd is an exceptional professor. His lectures were very interesting and he himself was funny. You can tell he is very knowledgeable about neuroscience. Very good at offering extra credit and shows that he cares for his students. Very little homework and only has three tests besides the final. He drops your lowest test. Definitely recommend.
Excellent professor, will make you passionate about Neuroscience even if you're not. You can technically miss most of the lectures - there are in-class assignments, but they are usually only when guest speakers are in. I don't know why you would though, they are more entertaining than some shows I've been to and cover everything on the tests.
Kidd was a great professor, lectures were up to date and actually interesting to listen to. Participation matters in this class especially when there is guest lecturers. There is a textbook for this class that he assigns to read sometimes but its honestly not necessary. I didn't end up getting it and I was fine. Adds a small curve to exams.
Good professor. Tests were easy as long as you look at the notes. Biggest thing that brought my grade down were the random assignments that only served as attendance checks. Even though attendance technically isn't mandatory, he gives unannounced in-class assignments that make up a decent portion of your grade. Apart from those, class was good.
Great professor that got me excited to take Neuroscience. We took four exams including the final, but he dropped one of our first three exams with the lowest grade. He offers test prep before exams, and most of the test material is taken out of lecture.
Dr. Kidd was great, tests were only moderately difficult, his class did not require a ton of study. Good lecturer, very little reading, kept classes interesting. Only thing to say is that Intro to Neuroscience felt very front loaded: the first two months were much more time intensive than the last two
Dr. Kidd is amazing, will explain neuroscience very well and clearly has a passion for it. Exams are not that bad and attendance is not required unless there is a guest speaker. Great man and I hope to get him for higher courses like genetics.
Overall, a good professor. This was his first time teaching this course. Attendance wasn't mandatory, as lectures were recorded; however, the audio wasn't always provided, and after a few weeks, the recordings would become inaccessible. 2 exams & final, a couple of easy assignments, and a presentation (mandatory attendance) & extra credit offered.
Dr. Kidd is a fantastic professor, yet his lectures hold so much information that can be hard to take in all at once. Attendance isn't necessary, except the thing that brought my grade down was that he does have random unannounced assignments in class that cannot be made up, and are weighted heavily because the only other grade is exams.
