Linneman is so cool! He has an interesting sense of humor that keeps the class alive. Very organized lectures and doesn't ask too much of you... (ie reading isn't too bad and neither is work)
Linneman is a good guy. Funny, very organized, and interesting.
Excellent teacher! Really cares about his classes and students. Interesting, good discussions, interesting reading.
A really awesome professor. He's funny and interesting. the work load is pretty low. class is very interesting. a lot of class discussion and he makes the effort to know each individual student's name and he is always willing to help
Linneman is definitely my all time favorite professor. Class is very interesting, he shows many video clips, he knows each student's name, he seems open to all opinions, and he's a funny guy. take this class!!
great class. took it pass/fail, but wish Id taken it for a grade.... soooo interesting, hardly ever looked at my watch. would love to take more classes by him. projects arent too hard - and hes a fair grader. plus he has a cool dog :)
great professor, funny and interesting. i didn't mind going to class and it was at 9 am. a good amount of work, but the reading is semi-interesting. fair/easy grader and willing to help whenever u need it
He made stats manageable. Very helpful and pretty funny. Great prof.
really cool guy. young. humorous. the work is light and the discussions are fun. take his class!!!
great prof, better guy, take any of his classes
Smart, entertaining professor who actually gives a crap about his students.
I LOVE Prof. Linneman! The reading was usually interesting, and overall he is an organized and funny lecturer. Actually cares about his students and knew all of our names in a class of 60. Plus he wears cool ties and brings his dog to class. I can't wait to take another class with him!
He is a good teacher and puts a lot of effort into knowing his students. And even though sociology does not interest me at all, I did enjoy the readings that he assigned and the lectures he gave. Not a bad class for GER 3.
Linneman is the best professor I've had so far; his lectures are entertaining and so is he. He gives a fair amount of reading but makes up for it by giving you an unusually good grasp of the concepts.
He is an amazing professor. Very interested in his work as well as his students. Clear and helpful. Challenging but fair. Great literature and class discussions.
Deadpan humor, Sunshine, Guitar-playing and sing-along silliness. But all with a point. MANY notes. Very fair and honest, will call you on a bluff. Heavy reading, but with a solid reason. Strong class, could be Exceptional.
Linneman was my thesis advisor. He is da bomb!
Entertaining and educational. Studying for exams is easier if you do the reading questions he provides! Definitely recommended. If you only take one soc class take it with linneman
Professor Linneman's so great! I took Principles with him as a for-fun class, and it was far more work that I would have guessed from a 200-level/intro. class. BUT HE'S SO GREAT! No really. He's a treasure.
Probably best professor I've taken; very organized lectures and interesting material; dry humor and sweet dog -- decided to major after taking his course
He is an amazing professor! He uses different techniques in class and is really excited about the topics. He is sure to give various perspectives. I learned a lot. He is really interested in student input and his class is very interactive. I would take his class in a heartbeat! Great guy.
His first time teaching this revised seminar as a capstone. Possibly the most reading and writing intensive class i've had. 5 books and 7 articles in 5 weeks--then 2 presentations, 3 papers and a project. great and hilarious guy, but as a seminar it gets very hard.
Linneman is AWESOME! Even though this was a 200-person class, he made it seem like he was talking directly to you. He is funny and helpful. His tests can be tricky but overall he is a great professor!
Loved the material, not a fan of the professor. He was pretty unhelpful overall. Not sure I'd recommend taking him.
Linneman is a nice guy and well meaning. There's a lot of extra reading on top of the textbook and he barely goes over text readings in class, so you're on your own for that. His lectures are really engaging and interesting. He tries hard to be personal and accessible for students.
Professor Linneman is a great professor. He managed to make a large class interactive for everyone, both by his clarity and the use of clickers to poll the class and answer "quiz questions" (which are pretty easy if you did the reading). He knew everyone by name and it was a 175 person class! Tests aren't easy, but manageable. Good class.
I really love this professor. He keeps things light and still lectures really well. You REALLY have to study for midterms. You have 2 midterms and one final. The rest of your grade is reading questions and participation. you have to be there and you should read the readings for sure. Overall, it's a great class. He's awesome. Be ready for the work.
P. Linneman is a very nice guy. He keeps class interesting and discusses sociology with a passion. However, the class was WAY harder than it should be for an intro course. First test was a killer and was WAY trickier than expected. This actually discouraged me from pursuing sociology as a major. Be ready to work up your butt and still not get an A.
He's a great teacher, he really got me interested in Sociology. I don't recommend this class for a GER because his tests were very hard and his lectures can sometimes be irrelevant to the majority of the test material. There are clicker questions every class so the readings (there's a lot) have to be done on time and class is mandatory.
Definitely a very hard intro class... I ended up with an A- and I studied like CRAZY for the midterms. However, Linneman makes the class and the work worth it. I went into this class because it was the only class that worked with my schedule and I needed 12 credits and now I'm considering sociology as a major. He's funny and engaging.
Severely overrated. His lectures are disconnected, and he spends a lot of time covering his own research. Appealing because he is funny, but his tests are tedious and based entirely off of fact recall of papers and textbook definitions. I learned too much about obscure, inapplicable research and hardly anything about legitimate social issues.
Definitely a tough intro class. The readings are long and you have to do them. You will study a lot. That being said, Linneman is an entertaining and engaging lecturer. He's readily available to students outside of class. Will definitely take another class with him.
This guy is awesome. For a guy who sucks at math and already struggled to pass the stats class in the math department, he made statistics as painless as humanly possible. Seriously, take stats with this guy because you'll actually learn what you're doing. I would highly recommend him to anyone and would take any math class he was teaching.
Professor Linneman is a friendly and funny guy. This class was a 1 credit passfail and mostly we were just having open discussion. I can't say I learned all that much, but it was a fun way to get another credit, especially because the topic was of interest to me and I got to meet other students with the same interest. Also Linneman brings snacks!
I'm not a soc major, but his lectures were super interesting. We did a variety of activities, watched videos, and had guest speakers in addition to regular lectures. You definitely have to read the book and the tests are nit-picky, but he listened to us when we asked him to take off a certain type of question. He respects his students.
Linneman is a wonderful lecturer. He's funny and engaging and quirky. Class is really fun. That being said, it's A LOT of work. 3 projects, a midterm, a cumulative final. That all on top of a very reading heavy class.
He's an amazing professor and a great guy. His lectures are fun and engaging, and he memorizes 175 people's faces in two weeks just to know everyone's names. But his finals and midterms are the hardest tests I've ever had for an intro course. Be prepared to memorize tons of tiny details like author names and specific numbers.
Linneman is GREAT. His office hours are a life saver - I went to office hours before exams (heads up, only two midterms and a final) and he gave me very, very comprehensive reviews. The exams are hard, but Linneman was always available outside of class as a resource. Lectures are funny, involve many video clips from Parks & Rec, and interactive.
He is the best professor I've ever had! He doesn't teach the principles of sociology very often so I feel lucky to have been able to take it from him. Give interesting readings outside of the textbook. Is super nice and approachable gives any help you asks for and you can give rebuttals to exams if you think you deserved more points!
Linneman is very enthusiastic and friendly. He knew all 180+ students by name. Do not get behind with your reading! There are daily reading-based questions, and playing catch-up in this class is difficult. Fast-paced lectures made taking notes difficult. While tests aren't easy, Linneman clearly states his expectations and grades fairly.
I loved his intro socl class. I thought that the tests were not difficult if you kept up with the readings and understood his lectures. It was easy to study if you had been keeping up along the way. He makes sure students participate by using Poll Everywhere in class to check up on comprehension - do the readings! Cool guy!
Linneman is a great professor. He is really funny and is great at keeping class time enjoyable and light. He always has funny videos to show us that are always relevant to the coursework! His teaching techniques helps you stay engaged and learn better. He has high expectations for your work but they are fair! He pushes you to be your best!
Unfortunately I am not a fan of Linneman. Not because he isn't interesting or engaging in his lectures, but for an intro class it's much more work than it's worth. Just let me sit in class and take notes! I don't want to do group activities every class or answer polls every 10 minutes. That being said, really interesting content. Cool guy.
I feel that there was more reading than I could absorb. I don't think he realizes that when students are taking 4-5 other classes, he shouldn't be assigning 3-4 articles and a 30 page chapter of small text per night. I feel like he just wanted to cram as much information as possible in our heads every class period. That's not the point of education
Likable, fun lectures, but his tests make common-sense material arcane. Asks weirdly detail-oriented questions, pulling from a LOT of material. If you have a good memory you'll be fine, but if you're forgetful you're screwed, no matter how well you study or understand the material. Also, more math than you'd think. Not an easy A, yet nothing new.
Prof Linneman is the best! His lectures are never boring and the material is really interesting. There is a lot of reading but he covers it all pretty well. He is really accessible and helpful outside of class. The tests can be hard but aren't too bad if you study. He really is the greatest, made me want to be a sociology major!
The class is super reading intensive and very time consuming, but the information isn't difficult at all. You cannot miss any classes. He's a great lecturer. Type up very THOROUGH notes on everything you read starting the first day of class, and studying for tests will be a breeze--you can easily get an A this way.
He was really nice and the class was interesting, but the tests were ridiculously specific. He often asked about points that were mentioned briefly in one reading that we never even talked about in class. He's pretty good about curving tests, but it was still my hardest class this semester. Make sure to go to class and study.
Great professor. Linneman makes stats acessible and easy to understand. He covers more content than many basic stats classes, and does it better than most stats classes too. I took his clsss years ago and it is still so useful. Take this class. Take it if you hate math or if you love it. Take it. You won't regret it.
Great professor, great person. His lectures make my day. You have to be in class, every class to pass. Expectations were not clear on what you actually need to know for the course. MEMORIZE EVERYTHING you ever read in class or for homework. This is not a "big concept" class and he will ask VERY specific questions about anything and everything.
Such a funny professor and his lectures are so so funny and interesting, but this is probably one of the hardest classes i've taken. It involves lots of reading, and like all other reviews, the tests truly are impossible. SUPER specific and you basically have to memorize every single little thing. Basically impossible tests, but really funny class
Excellent lecturer. Hyper-specific tests (NOT AN EXAGGERATION) (mean gpa was 2.59 on first test AFTER CURVING). If you don't come to class, you lose a lot of points for in-class work. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE SPECIFICITY OF HIS TESTS; this is not a "big ideas" class, but an extremely specific and extremely hard course to take as a freshman.
The lectures and readings are very interesting, but not enough to make up for the extreme difficulty and nit-picky super detailed exam questions. He is unclear and vague about what information you need to know for exams. If you want an A, you basically just have to memorize every single thing that you read or encountered in lecture for the exams.
I took this class as a freshman and I don't recommend following my footsteps. Professor Linneman is a great professor and he really cares, the class it self is just a hard adjustment. It is reading intensive and the tests are super specific. I definitely do recommend this class, just get ready to work your butt off.
Professor Linneman is a very engaging lecturer and the class is pretty interesting. That being said, he is extremely scrupulous with his exams and expects you to memorize any and all details from the entire course. This is an introductory class for a relatively easy subject. No reason for the tests to be as hard as my organic chemistry exams.
The class and information is mostly enjoyable but lectures can get boring. Linneman is an excellent professor and a very fair grader on exams with regrades being very helpful; he wants his students to do well. Multiple choice questions on exams were sometimes poorly written. DO THE READING and study hard and you'll receive a decent grade at least.
Linneman is interesting, but it's a lot of reading. Read about 6 hours/week for him and I'm not a slowww reader. Exams are memorization (esp names), curved. Highly suggest using your COMPUTER to take notes... can't imagine doing it by hand and being comprehensive enough to get an A. Got an A. Final is noncumulative.
Professor Linneman is fantastic! There was a lot of reading for the class, but all of it was very interesting. He's very passionate and it shows in his lectures. This was the first Sociology class I've ever taken and I'm now considering it for my major because of him. I highly recommend his classes!
He really doesn't get that more reading doesn't help overworked students learn more. Cramming it in doesn't do anything because. He always goes for quantity over quality which is so frustrating because that's not how people learn. Really interesting material but horrible relaying of info.
Very tough grader, use of specific vocabulary and concepts are expected. The textbook is actually very helpful
Prof. Linneman made learning statistics so entertaining. If math isn't your strong suit (like me), you'll probably have to work for a good grade, but his lectures make perfect sense and reading the textbook helps a lot. He is super accessible outside of class and is incredibly helpful. I genuinely loved this class.
He seems great until right after add drop ends ~50 pages a day of reading w/ quizzes daily. Unclear criteria and high expectations for projects/exams (class average 79). Incohesive lectures which are not related back to the text. Expects you to have extensive knowledge on a variety of social movements. Loves to test on terms not discussed in class
Want to hate life? Take this class. Lots of reading with daily reading quizzes. Assignments have little guidance and he gives little feedback. Mean grade on first essay 79, second 84. Gives no guidance for midterm or final. He seems super nice the first week of classes but don't be fooled, he will make you regret taking his course.
Professor Linneman is easily the worst professor I've had at WM. SOCL 361 is mainly busy-work that he quizzes on EVERY class. The projects encourage bad methodological practices and are harshly graded. Lectures are not engaging, and repeat the reading without clarifying anything. Exams are arduous and difficult to study for. Books are expensive.
His class is the reason I will not take another sociology class! His exams were so specific to most of the readings (which is like 100 pages per week), contexts, and lectures! He is the type of professor that makes his class extremely difficult, tries so hard, and acts nice to make you successful. DON'T TAKE A SINGLE CLASS WITH HIM!
Professor Linneman was a great professor for SOC 250. His lectures were fun and presented very complicated issues in an easy to understand way. My only complaint is that he assigned many readings and his exams were very difficult to adequately prepare for.
The 1 star ratings are just... wrong. The daily "quizzes" are just a 3-question summary of the topics of the readings (~12 pages usually). He is extremely clear about the content that will be on the exams, and he has generous office hours and weekly AMAs for any clarifications. While we didn't go super deep on any one topic, no class felt wasted.
I wouldn't say Professor Linneman deserves a 1 rating, but 5 is ambitious in my eyes. If you are planning on majoring in sociology, this is your guy. He is super passionate about the topic and has published papers on it! He also can be challenging in terms of what he wants us to take from the readings, but he became more clear over time. He's rad!
Do not enter into this class thinking it will be easy. Lots of reading and detailed exams, but to be fair, he curves. Prof. Linneman sometimes tries to approach controversial topics in class in a light-hearted way and it just comes off as inappropriate, so prepare to be slightly uncomfortable.
His bad ratings are undeserved. "Quizzes every day" are just simple open-note polls to make sure you did the readings. Readings are a lot and can range from 18-50 pages a day, but as long as you do them and take detailed notes on your own time you'll be fine for class and exams. He's passionate, funny, accessible, and not afraid to triple curve.
I just took this for pre med stuff, but is was a nice introduction to sociology. Linneman was a good teacher and his lectures were fun; it's just that the readings are somewhat long and the tests are VERY specific. The curve helps, but you need to study a lot for this class. Also, he memorizes everyone's names and faces despite the large class lol.
I love Prof. Linneman!! Exams were challenging but he asked for and took students' feedback after each one, curved exams, etc - you can tell he really wanted us to improve and do well in the course. He posts slides and records lectures but does PollEv for attendance - take notes in lecture to save yourself time on exam prep!
Hilarious, super accessible outside of class, and very open to feedback. He posts all his lectures online for review later. Definitely do the readings as that makes up the bulk of the tests. Brought his dog to class several times, and has an extensive tie collection. 10/10 recommend to anyone interested in sociology.
Honestly, I hated this class. I just took it for credits outside my major. Completely useless and pushes a fake and irrational agenda. Exams were unnecessarily hard with questions referring to minute, unimportant details. Material isn't hard (in theory), but Prof. Linneman overcomplicated it.
Professor Linneman is great. He's funny, keeps lectures entertaining, & will sometimes bring his dog to class. However, this class requires a lot of reading. Context pieces would make up an unnecessary amount of the exams & you would have to know frivolous information such as the author's names & other obscure info. Loved him but not the content.
As a graduated student, I can easily say that this course was maybe harder than orgo II. This is an intro level course, yet it was super hard. I was maybe one of 6 seniors in a majority freshman course and I could tell this was a weed out class. There were graded poll Evs, lots of readings, and unfair exams. I do have to say that I learned alot tho
Prof. Linneman is one of the sweetest guys I have ever met! You can tell he loves what he does and makes an effort to make a large lecture class feel small. However, do not go into this class expecting an easy A. In fact, I would only recommend this class if you are going to pass/fail it. I loved this class so much but it is a gpa drainer!
This class is difficult, but frustratingly so. The material itself is not difficult, but the class is graded on midterms mainly on memorizing specific details on Context article readings (hope you remembered what the Lindner piece was). Linneman is surely enjoyable and the lectures were great, but the execution of the tests falls flat for me.
Prof Linneman is a nice guy and entertaining, but do not take this class unless you want to study sociology. The exams are so much more difficult and tedious than they need to be, and there is an in-class quiz every day to monitor attendance. Way too much goes into this for an intro, lecture hall class. Would not take again.
Ok yes, this class has a lot of reading, but I don't understand the hate he gets. The exams (about 30 multiple choice, and 6 short answers) are hard, but as long as you study you'll be fine. Generally, this is a great intro-level class for people interested in the topic!
Professor L. is a super engaging lecturer, and cares deeply about his students (he memorized all of our 200 names). Lots of textbook and other readings, and lots of memorization. The content isn't too difficult, there's just a lot of it. Daily (reading) quizzes for attendance/participation. He is hilarious, accessible, and extremely knowledgable.
Super sweet, funny, and engaging, this class is seriously not that difficult. Show up for an hour, do the readings (sometimes it's a lot, but they're enjoyable and you can pace yourself over a couple days!), and study the details for the tests and you'll have a blast. No papers, group projects, or homework outside of decently-written readings.
There was a wild amount of reading material for this class. There was Conley (the textbook) and Context pieces (sociological papers), both are on exams. A study guide for said exams was provided (this was extremely helpful). However, KNOW the material before you take the tests. Don't skip, there are mini quizzes every class to check attendance.
Professor Linneman is a fun professor to have and with him, there is never a dull class. The only issue with this class is his tests. He's very picky and specific with grading and he doesn't always give the most clear study guides to prepare you for the tests.
Professor Linneman was honestly an amazing professor. I took SOCL250 with him and I really enjoyed the class. His lectures are super engaging and interesting, he is clearly passionate about what he teaches. The overall content of the course is not hard, however, the tests are very specific and detailed. There is a lot of reading involved.
Honestly Linneman had amazing lectures in my opinion. He is very funny and is clearly well versed in all aspects of Sociology. Super friendly professor and is easy to reach outside of class. The only downside is the exams. The subject material on the exams is hype specific at times, so make sure to really pay attention during his lectures.
Linneman was an amazing prof. His lectures were entertaining/funny and he was very helpful and receptive to any constructive criticism. He made a constant effort to interact with the students and listen to any concerns.
Prof Linneman is a really nice guy. He does his best to keep lectures engaging. LOTS of reading which at times was too much. Exams are quite difficult as he is really nitpicky with obscure details from the texts (which since there are so many it is hard to keep track). Overall enjoyed the class but definitely way harder than it needed to be.
Professor Linneman assigns readings as his effective way of teaching so he can use the class time as his half-hour comedy special, while it's amusing at times, he shouldn't make it his full-time career. I can't say I learned very much; his class is run based on memorizing readings rather than learning from them. avoid this class
The lectures are pretty engaging, but there's way too much reading and the tests are too memorization-heavy for a sociology class.
I loved this class. It was certainly not easy, and there is a lot of reading that you can't get away with skipping. But it was easily my most interesting and engaging class. He clearly cares a lot about students, and he wants you to do well. He tried to keep the lectures fun, and brought in his dog
Great lectures that are always pretty engaging. Hilarious professor. Class starts slow and kinda boring, but gets more exciting as time goes on. Tests are kinda bs tbh, info that was touched on for 2 seconds becomes a question. If you go to office hours though he gives hints of what will be on exam and a better relationship=better grades imo.
Linneman is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sociology. His lectures go very in-depth and there is quite a lot of reading, as well as difficult tests that require deep thinking but he makes the difficulty pretty clear and provides good study guides. Funny and cares about students; will make time to accommodate circumstances
Professor Linneman gives entertaining lectures, allows opportunities to argue for points back, and knows every person's name in a large class. That being said, the tests are extremely difficult, and there is no homework to balance it out. PollEVs are used every class, so you must be there every day without fail. This class requires lots of effort.
Super interesting class! A lot of reading for daily little quizzes, but they are interesting and skimmable. Tests were difficult despite studying, but I'm not sure what I would do diffierently because there is just a lot of content and specific contexts. Still, the actual enjoyment of going to class was enough to cancel out the mediocre grades imo.
The topic appears to be easy, but beware it is more challenging than you think! I didn't end up needing to take this class, but nonetheless it was interesting and he is funny!
Phenomenal lecturer and the class material is fairly interesting. That said, this class is a lot of work. Difficult exams and a ton of reading that you're briefly (3-4 MCQ questions) quizzed on everyday via PollEV. Wouldn't recommended this class if you're not super passionate about sociology. Great professor, just a difficult class.
Love love LOVE Professor Linneman. His lectures were interesting and engaging, and he has a great sense of humor. He consistently asks for feedback and genuinely addresses that feedback. This class isn't hard as long as you pay attention in lectures and do the readings, which isn't difficult to do considering how the info is presented.
Once you learn his testing style from the first exam, use that to study. The exams are difficult, but if you study and are engaged in both class and homework you will do well. He is an AMAZING lecturer. He learns the name of every student, even in our large lecture.
Professor was amazing and engaging. Lectures were boring but prof made it interesting. Tests were pretty difficult, so make sure to take thorough notes (tests are curved). Homework would vary from less than 20 pages of reading to 60 pages per night.
Very charismatic and practiced lecturer, solid amounts of reading, but the content was consistently engaging. This class takes lots of work, but you get so much out of it. Strongly recommend.
Professor Linneman is hilarious and his lectures are really engaging. There is a lot of reading though and you are tested on the readings directly. His tests are very specific and difficult. If you don't want to have to take detailed notes on readings (articles and textbook) this class may not be for you!
Linneman is the most engaging, passionate professor. Even though there's a lot of content (SOCL250 covers all the basics), he makes it interesting & exciting in lectures. Tests big on memorization but very manageable if you attend class. I barely read textbook, but would recommend it for a better grade. PollEv weighted as a nice grade booster too.
I thought the class was SUPER fun and his lectures were very engaging. Unfortunately, I didn't do very well on basically all of the exams because I didn't really understand the beginning topics that he built on throughout the course. So make sure you attend lecture and understand the beginning concepts!
I thought the class was SUPER fun and his lectures were very engaging. Unfortunately, I didn't do very well on basically all of the exams because I didn't really understand the beginning topics that he built on throughout the course. So make sure you attend lecture and understand the concepts taught at the beginning of the course!!
I took both SOCL150 and SOCL353 with Linneman and loved it!!! He is an amazing and engaging lecturer who is very accessible outside of class. His tests are hard, but he makes all of the material available ahead of time (including panopto recordings of every lecture), which makes it easier to study. If you can take a class with Linneman, do it!!!
Linneman is easily one of the kindest and most entertaining professors on campus. He puts great care into his students, learning all 200 of our names, and keeping class engaging and fun. Making me consider sociology as a major!
Linneman is an expert in his field, which is evident from his interesting & thorough lectures. He makes class fun, cares for his students, and will always try to help every student do well. It's a hard class with a lot of reading, so be prepared to work for your grade, but the content & professor are so great it makes the work well worth it!
Linneman is a fantastic lecturer, and obviously cares a lot about the subject and his students. However, don't be fooled by the fact that this is typically a large class. There is a LOT of reading, and the exams are very dependent on the knowledge from the readings. Attendance is mandatory but tbh I'd reccomend going to class even if it wasn't.
Professor Linneman is great! He really cares about his students. I've had professors for similar topics who just regurgitated the readings, but he adds new content and engages us to make sure we understand as much as possible. If you make a study guide with his guidance, vocab, and crowdsourcing, and know it well, you'll do fine on the tests.
SOOOO FUNNY! tests are impossible, so much reading, way too hard for Intro sociology class...
Far harder than it should be for an intro sociology class, but you will learn a lot. He seems very into it and lectures are super engaging and the homework isn't too bad.
Amazing lectures and an incredibly engaging environment that he fosters. The class can be eye-opening if you lean into certain ideas (conflict theory). Wonderful class, however, it's reading-heavy & fairly challenging. The textbook itself (GDAC) at times has information that is entirely false or does a mediocre job explaining certain concepts.
Love Linneman so much! Such a knowledgeable, caring, and funny professor. Very organized class structure, he definitely knows what he's doing. Helpful during exam prep, and wants you to do well! However, for exams, you really need to know your stuff. Would love to take another course of his in the future (and he brings his dog to class sometimes!)
Professor Linneman made this class interesting and fun. Very reading heavy so be prepared for that. Tests were difficult and made harder than an intro class is expected to be. Grade is made up 85% of test grades/final and 15% class participation/attendance. Very accessible outside of class.
I love Professor Linneman as a person. His classes were funny and engaging. He is a tough grader and there is a lot of reading assigned. I personally would not take this class again because of the difficulty I had with it. If you are able to understand sociology with no struggle this class is for you. It was not for me but I did like the professor.
Really enjoyed him as a professor, but the class is difficult if you don't do every single reading. Exams focus on very specific examples from readings rather than broader class content. Don't take the class if you don't have to unless you're prepared to work hard for an A.
Engaging professor that really cares about all of the students in his class. However, theres 67 articles and hundreds of pages of textbook readings that are required, and you genuinely need to read to do the tests at all. His multiple choice compnents of tests are really hard and overly specific, but the short answer free response is easy enough.
Very engaging lecturer and made the topics we learned really interesting and applicable. He is very caring and willing to meet with you outside of class to help you understand anything you might be confused about. Exams are very difficult and detailed, but if you stay on top of the readings and pay attention during lectures, you should be fine.
Prof Linneman is an exceedingly good lecturer with a fun sense of humor, and is very passionate about the course material. However, for an intro sociology class, this class is very, very, difficult. His grading system is also confusing and unclear. Readings are also very long and tedious.
Amazing lecturer and my favorite class/teacher. There is quite a bit of reading, so if you're not prepared for that, it will be hard. The readings were helpful, relevant, and interesting. Exams are difficult but not impossible. Planning to take two more classes with him next semester because he is that great of a teacher. To do well, READ.
Honestly a great guy and good lectures, but the course gets tedious and the tests are weirdly specific and hard.
