Professor Long has the best lectures. His essay assignments are challenging, but fair. He is always accessable and approachable and his grading is really clear. He always has time for students. I really enjoyed his class, recommend him as a professor and will take courses with him again.

Professor Long's lectures are great, he has fun class activities that really help you learn the material and he is incredibly patient. Moderate reading load, keep up on it or you might get frustrated trying to cram. Fast on email too.

Long is a really great professor. His history of the west covers women, Native Americans, national parks and even the wild west and even more. The reading load scared me at first, but it is not that bad. Very nice guy, patient and has a great sense of humor and you learn A LOT.

Professor Long is an incredible teacher. History is not my subject at all. I bombed my first exams in 270 and 142. I went to Long's office and he really helped me on how to prepare and now I am doing really well. His lectures are great and they are on the exams and so is the reading.

Prof. Long's desire is for every student to prosper. If you attend class and do the readings you will pass the class with no problem. He is very charismatic and interesting. The best history professor I've ever had.

Prof Long is really great. I like history but never loved it. Now I can see just how important all this stuff is. I had some issues and went to meet with him solo and was even more impressed. This guy has a big brain but is not arrogant. Long is a must. He challenges you and you really learn.

I really enjoyed this class. As long as you read and do the study guides, you will do good in the class. On tests, he gives 3-4 points extra credit so it is hard not to get A's.

He is very approachable and is always willing to help any student as long as he or she is willing to listen and accept his help.

He is the best, coolest and most seriously concerned about the students professor at cal state. I was totally doing awful on the first midterm and he helped me study, encouraged me, and I went from a F to A! I never had another professor help me like him and he never made it easy just clear and his lecture are the best!

Best class i ever had! Eight books was a bit crazy but each was cool and we actually read about the mob, flappers, wars, and speakeasies in ways I never imagined possible. Long is all about the big deep thoughts but you gotta know your stuff for the exams, papers and presentations as he takes no prisoners. Most interesting cool prof at csusb.

Professor Long was a great professor 2 take in the morning...took him for an 8:00 class and he keeps you awake. cracks corny jokes but still funny. always willing to help students. group project was cool because you can rat out anyone who didn't do work w/ "snitch paper" and he'll partially grade off that so not everyone will get same grade!

This is my third class with long and his is so awesome! I became a history minor because of him after taking hist 270. He is so interesting and great at lecturing. I hate to gush like everyone else but Dr Long really is superb. I first took 270 with him and he really impressed me. Since the I have had four classes with him and he has only impressed me more. Long wants students to think for themselves but you still have to know history. He is the most helpful caring prof on campus. Everyone I know agrees.

Dr. Long is the most stimulating and intellectual professor in the history department. This is the third class of his that I have had and it was simply great. We didnt just watch and write about documentaries. We argued and debated about each one and Long gave us some really great lectures all the way through. He is great!

Long made this class very interesting and intelligent. Exams are fair and he gives a review that covers everything he has on the exam. Long is one of the nicest professors on campus and he always makes time for the students. He does not let the bothersome students bother everyone either and as this is a big class it really helps!

A very challenging professor and his seminar is just that a seminar. Great lectures that cover the readings and the students are expected to participate in the discussions. I had trouble with the book review and Dr. Long gave me lots of help. Interesting and funny professor.

I always hated history but Long made it interesting. Final exam was tough and comprehensive but he gives a study guide. Lectures are great and reading is ok. Overall Long obviously loves his subject and he is accessible and a very nice guy.

Great professor! Class based upon a midterm, five page book review, and final. Attend every class and do the work and it will be an easy A. He reads the final and midterm to you exactly what you will see on the test when you take it. Makes class enjoyable.

I really learned a great deal in this class. The exams were rigorous and had Dr. Long not gone over in class as a review they would have been impossible to do well on. But because he took the time to review they were manageable. Long makes an 8 am summer school class full of energy and interesting and kept me awake and focused.

Dr. Long is amazing. I really did not know what to expect with this class on archives. But it was the best experience of my life and I wish I had taken Long before he is the most helpful and patient professor on campus. He is a very fair grader also. Long and this class really made history real and alive and i am so happy for having done this.

Wasn't interested in archives at all, but he made it where it was actually pretty good. If you have any questions, just visit him and he'll answer your questions. Careful though. He'll go off on a tangent. lol I'm gonna take him again

Long was superb and the class turned out to be much more interesting than I thought possible because Long is great and the material in the course is very interesting. He always is available and never rushes you out of his office and it is clear he really enjoys talking about history with the students and is one of the only profs who is. Great guy!

There is no other prof who is even close to Long. He is the best lecturer and most helpful. He wrote many letters of recommendation and he help me get a great job. Long emailed me job openings and helped me apply and this is something no other prof did. In the end I had 3 job offers and I got a great job. Thank you Dr. Long!

Archives class was great. Dr. Long's lectures were informative and he made you feel really comfortable in class. I wasn't sure about archives but I enjoyed it very much and learned a lot.

This is the best history class I ever took because I got to be and learn about what real historians do. Long is amazing and the best teacher on campus and I am taking him again and i recomened him.

Great class and long is amazing. He uses contemporary documenaries on really interesting history topics and this kept my interest. He really makes you think and knows how to teach. Long is really tough on grading but he is honest and explains everthing. This is the 2 class i had with him and will take him again.

Prof. Long knows what he is talking about to the smallest of details, his class is not easy but you definitely learn alot and laugh alot... His midterms will leave a blister on your finger

I hated the group paper. Our paper was 45 pages long, and a huge pain. Do not agree to be in charge of turning things in and getting everybody on track. The paper sucked. However, if you are there for the study guide notes for midterms and actually study them, you'll be fine. The final had more than he told us to study though.

I really enjoyed this class and Long was interesting, brilliant and funny and is the only one I would take an 8 am class from. Go to the review because he gives everything that is on the exam.

He does not lecture, but rather tells a historical story. The way he teaches makes it easier to study, because the student just needs to know and understand the story. When studying, it is as if the student is reciting a story, not just facts. Midterm=Easier than expected. He has no more than 3 choices. Term Paper/final=easy!! TAKE HIM! :)

material is not the easiest but great professor, you will learn a ton from him, extremely knowledgeable. gives study guides but did not cover everything on the test. one 5 page paper on a boring book. still a fun class, he made it interesting and we watched a lot of movies

Great teacher! Probably the best History teacher @ CSUSB. His lectures R funny so there is no reason 2 miss his class. The class consists of a Midterm, In-class presentation, 2 group activities in class, Final & 4 article reviews (8 pg paper). He is very knowledgable & loves 2 teach otherwise he could B @ a better univesity making a lot more money.

This was the most challenging course. I am a better college student because of it. Long's class is the only one I can say that about & his archive course is a lot of work but he is there 4u. The material's fascinating as .5 of the course we worked at a real archive w real hist documents. I never learned so much about hist & how historians work.

Took this class during the summer. Had a midterm, essay and a final. Essay had to be 5 pgs long. Buy the book he co-wrote! you can use it for the essay. Midterm and final were mc. You don't need to know dates, just people mostly.

Dr. Long is great. He is very informative on so many historical events etc. He will talk your head off if you let him. He is very involved and wants you to speak up. Sometimes he takes attendance and sometimes not. You pay to go to school so I recommend that you make it a priority to take him and learn a ton. Not an easy A. you gotta work for it!

Prof long is brilliant and passionate and these two qualities shine brightly in his classes. You learn so much in his class but you have to really make the effort. I really like how he engages us in every meeting. U can tell he is really prepared n expects students 2 b as well. I will take any course he teaches.

Great man with a lot of knowledge and insight. He expects you to work hard, but he'll help you with whatever problems/difficulties you're having with the course. It's NOT an easy "A", but you'd have to work hard to get an "F" as well. If you're a History or Film major, I highly recommend this class!

All i have to say is BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!

Lectures were really funny and his way of teaching is great. Do some reading, exams aren't that bad because he tells you what to look for, essay was ok and final was mostly recycled questions. Definitely recommend because I actually looked forward to the lectures.

As a guy who wants to work in archives/collections, this class was amazing! We have a couple weeks of lecture in the beginning and student presentations that last couple weeks, but it is very much a DIY type of class. Very great, learned so much!

As a History major, you need to have at least 1 internship course. If you're Public & Oral History and your passion is for archivescollections, Dr. Long is the intern supervisor you want. He's flexible and will work with you. As long as you have the minimum 120 hours and write the Midterm report as well as the Final Field Report, you're golden!

This course worked my rear off but I am really glad I took it. I feel like I learned what it is like to be an archivist and Long's really good at lectures and really is hands on in helping. He is patient and is understanding but his grading is pretty serious.

Professor Long is an absolute must take if you are a Sociology major. He makes life and learning so much easier with his clear and to the point lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are interesting enough to want to attend. Plus, if you show up and take good notes, you will have a complete outline to the two papers that he assigns.

So funny! He is really easy. I went to every lecture but probably didn't have to. There are 4 midterms and he reviews the key terms the lecture prior. Basically I googled the key terms the day before and then got A's on the tests. (it's that easy) Beware he does have a large book report due at the end. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE (at least for the report)

My favorite professor thus far! I love this man!! He made class extremely enjoyable; he is super witty, and I really wish I were related to him, like my favorite uncle or something. I'm actually very sad that he won't be teaching anymore of my classes. Oh and also he teaches the material well & all that other stuff.

Prof. Long is really funny and makes his classes enjoyable. There is a total of 4 midterms and 1 final, but he gives you key terms to study the class before the midterms and finals. We have one paper. It's a book review, but don't procrastinate! He is an easy grader. He requires 3 books, but you really only need the book for the book review.

CA Indian History was based on two essays, book review, group presentation, individual presentation, and peer reviews for both presentations. He's clear on what he wants and is a fairly easy grader. He makes no apologies for himself and he's amazing for it. Blame the liberals for everything wrong with America and he'll love you.

This is my third class with dr. Long and I knew it would be, it is incredible. He makes class not just a great time but he also really makes you think about the big important things in history and in life itself. His grading of papers is really tough so don't think u can skate by with a B without trying. But taking him is 2b challenged and 2 learn.

Funniest Prof. I have ever had! If you pay attention to lecture & study your notes you will pass! He is very honest with the class, understanding and easy to talk to. 4 tests and a book report. He gives extra credit questions embedded in the test meaning the test is 30 questions but he only grades it out of 25 so its possible to get 30/25.

Prof. Long was a great professor! Usually I hate history but he made the class interesting and added alot of funny comments throughout the lecture and I was genuinely interested to learn and go to class. He always reviewed tests and told everyone what will be on the next upcoming test.

Dr. Long is the most inspirational prof I have ever taken. He really cares about his students and works with you to be your best and he sure does try to make you have a passion for history as he clearly does. He is really brilliant but never makes others feel as though they are not. Take good notes in class and you will be in good shape.

I took this class and had no idea that it would be the biggest eye opener ever. I have had Long before and think he is amazing and in this class he really made me think about life itself. Amazing all the way. I recommend his documentary film class. Be serious about writing, talking and thinking.

Profesor Long is so far the best professor I have had. He is hilarious and makes the lectures fun to hear. I personally hate history but the way he lectured stuck through. He has 4 midterms, a 5 page research paper, and final. For the midterms he usually lets us know ahead what terms are going to be on there so make sure to be there.

He shows the importance of documentary films from casino jack to Fahrenheit 9/11 to murderball and street fight all these films have a significant meaning to his class he is a very interesting professor and I would honestly take him again plus he pays two students to voluntary to help in the anthropology museum.

Beware that this course takes some real effort but all you learn is amazing. Long teaches how to be an archivist n u learn that and more. I've taken 6 UD history sems and I learned more about real history in this archives course than any other + I learned so much about archives. My 2nd class with Long and I am in awe of how much I learn from him.

Long is an amazing lecturer who never wastes time cause his lectures always connect to the readings and what's on the exams. Always go to reviews cause he goes over exams 100%. Paper is important to and he explains how to do it. Long always has time for questions to. Great professor!

Professor Long is seriously one of the BEST professors I've ever taken . if I could I would take his class again. Notes are good, go to his reviews. he lets you know whats gonna be on the tests. If you don't have an A or B you're doing something wrong! Don't procrastinate on your paper! And books aren't really necessary besides the book review.

He has really fair midterms and he prepares you for them and the final. Only downside is he has a paper which is pretty long for a ge course but he does go over how to do it a few times in class.

I sure have learned way more than I ever thought was possible in a history class. Long is the best in the classroom and his lectures are spectacular. He makes you laugh and think. There are no surprises on any of his exams and he has extra credit. The paper is too heavy for a GE course and the only downside to this course.

I recommend Long's history 201. I agree with the others that the paper is tough. But if I could take him for all of my GE classes I would. He is always available and gets back to you quick and he always does reviews for his exams and these are golden.

Professor Long literally makes history come to life. History for me personally is one of those interesting, but dull subjects to learn about and he really makes an effort to make it not only relatable, but comical as well. The only thing you really have to put an effort into would be the paper, but he gives you enough notice before it's due.

He is one of those professor's you'll never forget. If you put in the effort he WILL take notice and he will give you guidance if you seek it. Just like the rest of use he doesn't like to waste his time and he won't waste yours!

I have no interest in history but Long always kept my attention and I learned more about my least favorite subject than I thought possible. Go to the reviews, these are essential. Lecures are filled with important exam materials. I agree with others that the paper assignment is a bit too long for a ge course but he does teach how to write it.

This is the 2nd class of Dr Longs that Ive taken and it is the class that made me think and I mean really think about life itself more than any other. My friends said the same thing too. He grades papers hard, be aware of that and you can make your own documentary film or do a third paper for the final. You have to participate in discussions!

I think this was one of the best classes I have ever had. Longs lectures are great and do not have any bias. He is funny and serious and he knows how to teach. Its a lot of work and he does help when you ask. You have to participate and go to class if you want to do well.

Midterm and Final are easy as long as you pay attention and take notes in class. The book review paper is long but it's not hard. I got full credits for the paper. TAKE his class if you want to learn and get an easy A !

One of my favorite professors! I wish I was a history major just so I could take another one of his courses. He makes the information entertaining to learn and class was never dull. Great personality and excellent humor. Easy class - one paper is due at the end of the quarter. Each exam he reviews the whole study guide the class session before.

I finally took a class with Long after hearing so much about him. I thought friends were exaggerating because no professor I ever took was amazing but Long is. He is brilliant and he helps student connect with what they want to learn more about. I wish I took him earlier. Incredible lectures, tough grader, must go to detailed review exam prep!

This is the most unique history course I ever took. Long put together some really interesting films and let us really argue and he always backed everyones right to have their own views. He is such a great professor. Reviews are graded a little too harsh, IMO. He also gives the op of making a short documentary or a term paper. I did the film.

Dr. Long's curation class is great. He splits the course into two halves with the first being readings and discussions and the second on curating an exhibition. Its a little heavy on the readings but its all articles so we don't need to pay for a book. He gets back fast on email and is always available to meet to help out.

Museum Curation was very easy, 2 group presentations and a final paper consisting of 2 paragraphs on the best presentation. We met on zoom every other Wednesday and he was really laid back.

Take THOMAS LONG for history if you can! The easiest class I've ever had. Makes history quick, short, and the point. Only 5 Postings (which only 200-250 words is required) Such a great professor and has a clear grading criteria. Posts two sets of notes weekly. Almost done with the semester and we've had NO tests.

Makes class fun and is easy to talk to. Gives so much info regarding the class subject and stories that relate.

Easy Class! 5 Assignments. There is a book but I only used it for one assignment before using the slides he gave us which answers all the homework questions. Opens the work early and gives us lots of time to do it. Replies back within the hour unless late at night. Grades fast. Due date times are confusing just email and he will give you the answer

This class is very easy as long as you watch the films turn in the 2 film reviews and then just participate in the group discussions about the films.

Took his expository writing course over the summer. 4 essays, 2-3 pages long, clear guidelines and instruction, gives you the topic and you have freedom to write about whatever you want as long as it follows his criteria! He was super caring and gave great feedback.

Took Dr. Long for summer session SSCI3060, and we had to write a few 3-4 page essays that were straightforward and stress-free (can write about any topic you like). It includes a movie review, biography, book review, and research paper. Gives good feedback on your papers. Make sure to follow the word count and apply the feedback he gives you.

Took a summer class so everything was very expedited. There was a total of 4 or 5 essays, it was very easy to find topics. He gave GREAT feedback back on papers. It was only a 5-week course and his turn around time for grading was very quick. If you have the option to take him for the SSCI 3060 do it, he's great.
