Easy class. Many students so he can't tell whether your present or not. Only 2-3 tests given. Barely any notes. Extra credit work can be done by seeing plays/musicals and writing a short critical analysis.
He is a good teacher, you have to memorize a lot of stuff. I had to make out with this kid I never met, for one of my scenes and I hated that!
I took him for tha 100, 110, and 210. Great teacher. He is awesome and very helpful. Scenes he picked were fun. We played tape ball in the beginning of each class period for tha 110, tha 210
EASY class. Nice guy, no ego. Easy tests, notes aren't required, humorous...really has a love for theatre.
Awesome professor. Very easy to talk to and helpful. He adds humor to the class and does skits too. The nice thing is he talks about what he wants to and lets you go, he doesn't just babble to keep his class going to the end. Very fast on responding to his students out of class.
He makes this sound every time he talks. It's kinda like an "EGHHHH". He does it after every few words. It gets very irritating and makes it hard to pay attention to what he's saying. I don't know if any one else in the class notices but I sure do!
If you want an easy A, take him for THA 100. He made class interesting, despite his tangents about his own experiences. The final exam is a group project, a 10 minute skit. SO easy. Take him for your gen ed, you won't regret it.
He is a good teacher. He has a passion for what he does, and absolutely loves it.
Great Professor for serious acting students. He is, along with Karen Sheridan, the best acting teacher in the detroit area. If you really want to learn the basics or if you are already experienced and would like to build on your ability then take Mahard's course. Learn life long Creativity skills.
Very good teacher, very encouraging--especially when you make progress. But seriously, not everything has to be about sex!
SO EASY!!! hes really nice and his tests are simple...the final project is a scene for each group in the class and its actually really fun...it seems like its gonna be hard but its good...hes simple and fun...nice guy
I loved this class!! He is a very knowledgable and helpful teacher who takes the time to get to know you. If you participate in class and work on your scenes and monolouges seriously you will do just fine. He covers the basics of acting very well and will help you to become a better actor. Show up!
This class was interesting and VERY EASY, the teacher is an actor himselt. You really don't have to show up for class except at the end of the semester when you are in groups. Final Project is really fun.2 tests in the semester and a few easy papers. Good class easy and fun!! Good teacher reccomend
He is a great teacher! I have already recommended him to family and friends. His class is really fun and easy.
good guy...helpful...
Easy!
I chose to take this class with him because what people said on here and they are right. He's easy u take 2 tests that R really easy all multiple choice. We DO have to see 3 plays on own but u can pick 2 and u have to write a 3 page paper about it no big deal but u seriously have to see the plays cause hes an actor and he knows all about the plays.
Professor Mahard is awesome! This class was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to get their Gen Ed requirement out of the way. The final exam is putting on a play. Can't get much better than that! Plus, he gives you a "behind the scenes" look at how actors prepare for roles...stuff you don't get from textbooks!
If you take this class...make sure you work hard with your partner....all of mine never wanted to meet. Your grade depends on them too! You should have an open mind because the material isn't for the sheltered.
Very easy. That pretty much sums it up. You don't really do too much in class...at least when I took him, since he was rehearsing for a part and apparently paid little attention to preparing for our class. He's a really nice guy, and helpful...but honestly, I didn't see him as an excellent TEACHER. But my class might have been more of an exception.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
FUN! his classes are a blast. Attendance is a part of the grade. Projects and assignments are great in educating students on what theatre is. Plenty of time is given to complete assignments, and most are easy. If you show up, and do the work, its not hard to get a 4.0.
I loved this class. I was not looking forward to taking a theatre class but he made it very fun and he is a very nice guy! Attendance is mandatory but it really is a great class so you don't mind going.
Just amazing! Him and the class. He loves what he does teaching and acting. Two Exams- very easy. 4 one-page papers- even easier. Final is a play and so much fun to do. See him act at the theatre at Meadow Brook on Campus- He's awesome. I wish I could take the class again. :)
AWESOME Professor! I loved his class! I would recommend this class to anyone. TAKE IT!
LOVED HIM!He made the class so much fun, and the assignments were a breeze. The Final is a play that you have to do in front of the class, its fun to watch as well as preform! DEFINITLY take him!
Amazing guy, he is so helpful. Every assignment is a check mark. There are two tests and he gives out an extreme amount of extra credit. The final is a play produced by you and a group. He is very understanding and always accepts late work if you have a good reason. Great guy!
very easy class. little book work.
Easiest class ever as long as you see the required plays and write the papers assigned. Final is a scene put on in groups, no written final here! Great for an easy gen-ed credit.
Super easy class there is not much work at ALL! Most days your not even there the full time! He is more focused on his theater career then his teaching career. Really nice guy and such a wonderful actor! You have a few test but really easy and you have to go see his plays which is part of the class! If you want an easy 4.0 take this class!
Great professor! Just show up and do the little bit of work that's required and you'll pass with flying colors!
He's a great teacher. Just show up to class and you'll do fine. Not a whole lot of work, and the final is a group play. It's a lot of fun and an easy A!
Really enjoyed this class. He is very interesting when he talks about his career as an actor. Barely even use the book. Take his class.
Professor Mahard was a great teacher! I enjoyed his class very much and he was also very friendly to everyone! His class is relatively easy just do good on the tests and do all of the assignments, and you have yourself an A.
Professor Mahard was amazing. Plain and simple. He was fun, extremely helpful, and good at his craft. He does not use the book much, but if you want to be an actor, i reccomened getting it. Take this teacher!
Mahard is interesting and really interested in the class he's teaching. He's a great actor and just wants to see you take an interest - I'd recommend talking to him outside of class, too. He's amazing to listen to. Only used the textbook once for the midterm, so if you don't plan to study for it, don't buy the textbook.
Really, really nice guy, but he wasn't there a lot and left us messages on the board...yet YOU need to show up and it counts towards your grade...Easy class...but no structure..you don't know when stuff is due or where your grade is throughout the semester...
This class was fun, and Mahard truly does act, in cinema and theater. His class is easy but it is not very hands on, and he does use the book, but you can get by without it. I would certainly recommend him.
If your looking to get an easy 4.0 this is the class to take. Mr. Mahard is a good teacher but cares more about his acting career than his teaching career. He missed about half our classes due to a movie he is making however his classes were fun. It's extremely simple and you meet a lot of new people. Hes a great guy and this class is a easy 4.0
So easy. Just go to class. Attendance is part of the grade. You have to go to a few plays, but there are ways around it. I would suggest against buying the book. I haven't opened it.
He's a really awesome professor. He's always willing to help and loves questions; he just loves talking about theater. He's really passionate so it makes it interesting. a few plays to go to, 2 tests, then you put on a play for the final. For tests stay the day he gives you the study guide, he will give out every answer. Definitely recommend.
He was a very good teacher. He made his note clear and interesting to students, project at the end was fun to do, and required that students go to plays for homework which was also fun. Great experience
The best! This class was both fun and easy. Take him anytime you get a chance. Seriously the best prof ever
This class was great. I had no interest in the class when I had to sign up for it, but Prof. Mahard made it so interesting. He is so passionate about acting so the lectures aren't boring. Take him! It's so easy! He even cancelled the 2nd test, so we only had one! TAKE HIM!
Prof. Mahard is so passionate about theatre, so it makes the class alot more interesting. Hate working in groups but it beats taking a test.
if you are looking for an easy A take theater 100.
Great Professor! Wonderful! He is the best!
Easiest Professor ever I highly recommend taking his class, Loves what he teaches. Easy 4.0
GREAT GUY, GREAT TEACHER. He gives you every chance to do well in his class. Attendance is for points so go to class...you always get out early. DONT GET THE BOOK..waste of money. TAKE HIM you wont regret it!
He is the best professor I have ever had at Oakland. Very helpful and he loves this class. Recommend taking his class for a gen ed credit.
I love this professor; one of the best professors I've ever had at OU. As a non-theate major, I loved this class. Easy A. I HIGHLY recommend him. :)
fun class, very easy! Great, funny professor, recommend this professor to everyone. 1 test and a a few easy writing assinments. final was performing a play and mandatory to watch 4 plays all together
This professor almost made me change my major to theater because he was so awesome! I took him from THA 104 as well just because he was THAT awesome..I didn't even need the class.
Took it last fall, the class is easy. 4 easy essays, 4 plays to go to- which was fun. Recommend this class, besides the group project at the end. Wasn't fun like everyone claims. It was more of a pain than anything.
Easy and fun class. Simple papers- a few of which involve going to see play. Took it at 8 am, but it was worth going in early for. Group projects at the end are fun and better than they sound. Mahard is a nice guy and you can see he had a passion for theatre. Awesome class.
He is an awesome professor if you want to take theater as a general requirement he is the BEST! We didn't really use the theater book but the other book was only $1. The test and papers weren't hard at all. The group projects were really fun also. He's an overall great professor!
The class is very easy and was never as long as the full class period was supposed to be. Tests are easy, essays are graded easy and seeing required plays is a must but they are not awful. Group projects are fun and better then taking tests so I would not complain about them. Very nice and funny. One setback is he is not there often.
Super easy class! You have to go to 4 plays sometime during the semester, write two easy papers, and two group performances. Easy A class! He lets you out early pretty much every day. Take this class!
Prof. Mahard was awesome! He really enjoys what he does and is really chill. This class is SUPER easy. Two exams, two papers, and a group project. This class was a lot of fun and I would take a class from Mahard again for sure!
This class was the best way to get my Arts Gen Ed out of the way. I cannot think of any class that was easier than this one, this class was by far the easiest class i have every taken!! Only one test, you watch a couple plays, and write two essays! THIS CLASS WAS THE BEST TAKE IT WITH MAHARD
Take THA with Mahard. You wont regret it.
My favorite professor at OU. I wish he was there more often, but he's busy performing plays in the OU Meadowbrooke Theatre. This class is fun if you make it. You get to act (stupid) and have fun and get a 4.0. What else do you want?
save ur money and dont buy the theater book please! i didnt use it at all and cant find anyone to buy it from me. but i loved this class so much <3 the funnest class ever. get to act silly and do very little work <3 please take this class! you'll love it! got a 4.0 for having fun.
I never thought that I would like a theatre class, but this class is my favorite one of this semester. He's very laid back and you can tell he has a passion for this subject. I didn't buy the textbook and didn't have an issue. You won't regret taking THA 100 with him!
Very fun class. Recommend highly for the art class you'd have to take (liberal arts college). 1 exam, several papers, and two plays done as a group. Some of the papers involve evaluating a play you have seen at the university. You also must attend two additional plays. By far my favorite class of Freshman year.
My favorite college class so far. His class is so fun and the plays that we were required to see were phenomenal. Easy grader on papers and we only had 1 exam which he gave a study guide for. He prepared us really well for that exam. I would reccomend this professor.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! Extremely fair, passionate, and fun!! I am a premed major and this was my favorite class to attend bc it was so easy going. Final is a play you put together with a group and you don't have to act if you dont want to. SUPER EASY FUN CLASS! One of the best professors i've had at OU. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This was one of the easiest classes i took this semester and it was really fun. He's a really laid back and passionate guy who's very into his craft. After the first month of class he stops taking attendance so if you don't show up it doesn't really harm your grade as long as you get your work in. Super fun, highly recommended!
I took this class just for fun, and he's been fantastic. Half of the semester has been spent with a group of kids (half of them don't show- if you hate groups, don't take this class) acting for a Christmas Carol and a play of our choice. He doesn't grade on performance; he really just grades on if you show up and attempt to perform. Def recommend.
This guy is awesome. One of the most laid back professors I've ever had. I recommend this course to someone who isn't sure what art course to take. Worth it!
Professor Mahard is hilarious and I greatly enjoyed his class. It was not difficult at all.
If you take this class, be willing to spend time with your scene partners! That's the worst part of this class is the scene works. He is hilarious and really knows what he is talking about. He gives great feedback and pushes students to do their best.
Prof. Mahard is a great professor, gives 2 exams, easy as long as you study. You have to see 4 plays. Prepare to work with others. Papers are ridiculously easy, although you have to write 4 of them. Final is just a play you have to act out with a group of 10-20 people. Class was super easy, extremely hard to fail.
I would highly suggest taking this professor for this class! You do have a main group project but you are given lots of time to work with it. You see 4 plays and there are only two tests which are simple as long as you know the terms from the book and pay attention in class
He's one of the coolest teachers I have ever met. He has such a passion for acting and is just trying to share that with his students. Wish I had more free elective credits to take him again.
Professor Mahard was GREAT! I am not a theatre major, but if you need an art credit, take it with Mahard.
There was one exam and other than that it was group projects. Easy 4.0 for credit! Don't take another prof for this class, I had friends with another theater prof and they had tons of homework! Mahard rarely gave homework and you received credit for turning in what was assigned. You're required to see four plays all semester.
Love this lecturer. He is amazing and hilarious. Easy going lecturer, not much of assignment just 2 critical analysis from OU play. Exams are very direct, all from his lecture.
Awesome, funny, caring prof. who gives great feedback
Professor Mahard is the best!! I am in his Acting for Non-Majors class, and I absolutely love it. He is hilarious and a fair, caring professor. Expect to spend some time outside class on memorizing lines and group projects; but it's a very enjoyable class.
Great Professor! Its a theatre class with lots of group projects so you have to show up and participate. you'll only need the book for like the 1st 2 weeks. Mahard is hilarious, and give amazing feed back! I'm taking him for another course in the fall because he's a great professor!
Mahard is my all time favorite person and professor. He is hilarious and really cares about his students. Even after taking his class I still talk to him and say hi almost every week. Hes the best!
Professor Mahard was pretty great! This class was a relaxing break from my other classes that I've taken this past Fall semester. He doesn't post grades on moodle, because I think he just wants you to show up and work hard. There's a lot of group assignments and projects and papers, but if you turn everything in you should get an A.
He is an easy going person, and an understanding person. You need the book for definitions, but could easily take pictures of other people's book or go online. A lot of creating involved, and participating as a group. Super fun class.
He is an easy going person, and an understanding person. You need the book for definitions, but could easily take pictures of other people's book or go online. A lot of creating involved, and participating as a group. Super fun class. :-)
He's pretty chill, has good acting experience to hear about. The class is super easy just papers about plays you see over the semester and group acting projects. The midterm was totally unexpected none of the stuff was covered but also had a low impact on grade and was easy to guess stuff. It's a chill class and I liked him as a professor.
I love this man! He is an actor on the side and extremely knowledgeable! We only had one test (that none of the material was covered) but it had 0 impacts on my grade and I graduated with a 4.0. All the class is seeing plays, writing about them, and creating a couple small plays with your class. Easy 4.0!
Such an easy 4.0. As long as you look like you did the work, you'll do well. Your grade is primarily based off group plays that you create, and plays you see and analyze in short papers. He's a really nice guy and definitely loves seeing students participate in the plays.
BEST PROF EVER! if u need an art get ed pls take THA1000 with him u wont regret it. easiest 4.0 Ive ever had he is such a nice guy who really loves acting even if u dont like acting youll enjoy this class 2 exams (look up def online no book)final group project which is fun and plays to see he does take attendance so show up and get on his good side
Professor Mahard loves what he does and it shows. He's extremely nice and reasonable. His goal is to truly share the joys of the theater and inspire students to appreciate the arts more. I recommend this class to anyone needing to fill their arts requirement (especially if you have a heavy course load otherwise). Go to class and you'll pass.
Easy professor, show up and get into your groups and you will pass. Go to two shows and there you have a 4.0
No Moodle page for his course, it's blank all semester. Waiting for my grade was like a mystery I was trying to solve; at least I got an A-. While this class is easy, it bothered me how unorganized it was. I'd still take him again as he was a pretty nice professor and it was fun seeing him perform plays at the theatre.
Very fun. As long as you show up and participate he will like you. Very nice guy.
Tom is so incredibly inspirational. He is so knowledgeable about acting and he cares about each and every student. He has made me want to take many more theatre classes and pursue acting. He is accepting and funny. Class was always interesting and I hope to work with him again in the future.
He is very passionate about his class. He is adorable and his class is very easy to pass as long as you particpate.
Professor Mahard is very passionate about what he teaches, but his teaching style is not my favorite. He will put nothing online so if you lose your syllabus you wont know what to do. He also is never clear on his expectations for assignments as he does not give rubrics, nor is it explained in the syllabus.
Professor Mahard is so sweet! I took him as a freshman for a theatre gen ed, and he really leads a fun class! A few papers, a fun group acting assignment, and a very chill environment. He's an actor himself and very involved with Meadowbrook Theatre- and he requires you to attend a few plays throughout the semester. Kind and caring gentleman!
Professor Mahard is the easiest and nicest professor. If you show up to class and complete the very small amount of work he gives you during the semester, you will very likely get an A in his course.
I really enjoyed his class, he is a great professor and he fair on grades. TAKE HIM !!!
Best professor! Great guy!
Great guy, fun class
Professor Mahard was a very good professor. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him if you have the opportunity. He advertised the textbook, though I rented it and never used it. He doesn't really put grades on Moodle, but is very willing to discuss your grade if you ask. Overall very enjoyable professor and class.
If group projects aren't your thing, this might not be the class for you. We were expect to collectively write and produce our own play with very little supervision, and we were graded on our final product. Although the professor was flexible and an easy grader, he often wasn't in class and expected the students to take attendance.
Thomas absolutely loves what he does and he loves to share it with his students. They were a lot of good projects, but they were a lot of fun. Only problem I had with him is that he would not post grades but you could always just ask.
In the beginning there's a lot of writing, you have to write essays on a film you watch in class and any three plays that you have to watch on your own time that also requires you to turn in a ticket stub to prove you went. There was only one exam,it was pretty simple. The book is required but I only used it once for the exam,(try to find it for free)
