WORST CLASS I'VE TAKEN AT RIC! Terrible. BORING. Incomprehensable. The guy is a nut-job, thinks he's great and really needs to go back to Connecticut where he lives. Truly the biggest loser on the RIC campus. Nothing good to say about this guy. Sorry. Don't take him.
Very into himself. Avoid him if you can, he's a liberal nut job. He has some strange ideas about humans.
Hes terrible at explaining things, thinks hes a mathmatician and can barely add, hes a liberal tree hugger, his exams are completely randon, and his class has poor structure
lectures not structured,exams are irrelevent
Dr. Malloy is the best Prof. to take the last class in Psych. degree (375) with. He is a Deadhead, but he is a cool dude. He keeps it interesting and has a great understanding of research methods. If you are serious about learning Psych. methods he is the best. He is passionate about teaching and you can survive the class, which is a requirement
The best psychology professor at RIC, makes it fun and has a good time with it! I learned so much from this class, he is my favorite profesor!!!
honestly, had i not already taken this class at a different school i would have been SO lost, he goes too fast for an intro class and gets pi$$ed off if u tell him to put his notes back up cuz no one had time to write them down.
easy, helpful, nice. He is serious about his work so no talking in class and fooling around. Very reasonable tests, if you go to class you will be fine....

Dr. Malloy is a great teeacher, he is very knowledgable about what he teaches and makes the material very understandable.
The David Funder book we used for our class was really bad when used as a textbook and the pride in his lectures and work borders on arrogance. His lectures are like a big puzzle which really helps put everything together for the exams but unfortunately, too many people in his class are only able to take notes off an overhead so the flow is ruined.
I think he's got a couple of screws loose but its ok... he really wants everyone to understand what he's saying and he really likes research methods. He'de probably be better to take in 375 though. If you had him for 221, then you should take 375 with him. No homework sides 2 assignments. Gotta go to class. knows what he is talkin about.
Malloy's mad cool, especially like his hippy attitude about life! Good teacher who knows what hes talking about, gives great study examples. Take him if you want to learn.

so this is a fairly easy class... a lot of material but only 3 exams no other grades. just show up take notes and know everyhting on the study guides... you'll get an A.
Wasnt really into teaching Intro to psy, so took an 'experimental psy' twist on it. Kinda scattered when lecturing. 3 exams, fairly easy if you pay attention. Good teacher
As long as you come to class and take good notes you will pass the class!
Fair and clear cut teacher. No games. If you show up and do the work you'll do just fine. Plus he's a hysterical hippie.
He is a really nice guy...very much a hippy. BUT, his class is so unorganized and he goes way too fast. He doesn't really like to take the time to go over stuff. I think he gets confused on which class he is teaching because he thinks we should already know some concepts that we have never heard of. Hard to keep up with...hard tests...no reviewing.
He's seemingly a good researcher, but professor he's not. His lecture is rambling and unfocused, his study guides border on useless, and his tests alternate between detailed and difficult to cursory and simple. He tries to answer questions and frequently fails. He also showed insultingly little interest in the class at times. Not recommended.

not bad, but not great. During lecture he seemed so distant from his students, and was soo boring. I cant count the number of times i fell asleep in class. would give list of terms and words and a study guide which helped. the 3 tests were easy if you studied. our grade was based on those 3 tests. I didnt like that. not my kind of class at all!!!!!
I'm taking him right now and he is so boring. He doesn't know how to interact with his students and in a lecture of 200 students it is really hard to get individual help. He talks way to fast and then gets mad when you can't keep up with him. You only have 3 tests and thats all your grade is based upon. Dont take it with him.
Dr. Malloy is dry, but really knows his stuff. He tries to teach about a bunch of different stuff but often forgets that the reason the lecture seats 200 students is that many of us take the course for a Gen. Ed. requirement and will never take Psych again. Nevertheless he is personal but watch out for how he pronounces the word "Exaahhmmm"! :)
Hes very knowledgeable but he expects you to write at the pace of his voice as in really fast. He can be rude at times because he doesnt realize it. Other than that its a pretty easy class. Oh yeah and he only gives three tests so that is what your grade is based on.
I wouldn't have passed this course without previous knowledge in the summer plus the extra credit he gives.
He may know psyc. but not how to teach it. very fast speaking good luck getting notes. Classes too large for him to handle or for students to learn. Definately not my money's worth!! I think I would have better instruction online.
A very smart/educated professor but lacks interpersonal skills. Openly admits that he dislikes his new position as chair and prefers to not have to deal with students. Doesn't think much of RIC either. Teaches at a level far beyond undergraduate level and obviously annoyed when not understood. Quite full of himself and very condescending.
if i had known what i was in for, i would have waited until next semester to take this class with somebody else (and i'm a senior). admits he teaches at a master's level. his stuff is way too abstract and gets mad and yells when you are confused. don't bother to go to him for extra help. he even told our class that he hates students!!!
Dr. Malloy Is a very intelligent man who has lots of knowledge around this subject matter. You will be challenged but Dr Malloy is very fair and will bring you closer to the place you want to be in the end. This class is not for slackers of wishy washy folks. Dont skip, study hard, take notes, make friends to help you out.
Malloy is a brillian man and knows his stuff but is unable to teach it. His lectures were incomprehensive and he is unclear on what he wants exactly for assignments. We never used the book and you cannot miss one class or you will be very confused. Review statistics before you take his class.
Professor Malloy is really intelligent but sometimes distant. He's fair and straightforward; if you go to class, take detailed notes, and study for your exams, you'll do just fine. If you want a professor who spoon-feeds everything to you, this isn't your guy.
i find him to be very interesting! i hate psychology but i am actually learning from his lectures. i literally studied a half an hour before his test an got a B. he talks faster then you can copy his notes during his lectures....but if you ask him to back up he will. his test are easy as long as you follow his study guides!
Has some very interesting and thought provoking lectures. If you attend class and take notes the exams will be easy, but with such a large class size this is an not an intensive course. Repeatedly asks if the class understands the concepts, and if you pose a question he will explain the concept in a different way, a sign of a good professor.
Amazing professor,
This guy is amazing! I absolutely loved his class. It was a very large class but he is very clear about what you are learning. There's no tricks on the exams they're very clear and easy. He's a very nice guy and an Awesome teacher! This was the first Psych class I've taken and now I'm considering a minor because of this guy. HE'S AWESOME.
He seems like a nice guy, don't get me wrong, but to me...he's SO into himself. Always talking about his articles, publications, etc. I had taken a psych class prior to his and LOVED IT! I hated this class so much I dropped it. He moves way too fast for you to take notes and is usually too deaf to hear you when you ask him to go back to the notes.
Has some very interesting and thought provoking lectures. If you attend class and take notes the exams will be easy. Repeatedly asks if the class understands the concepts, and if you ask a question he will try his best to explain the concept in a different way.
I took two of his classes and loved them both. He thoroughly held my interest!
Took research methods with him. Class is taught at basically a graduate level and can be difficult but he makes the exams very easy to pass. Always willing to help and explain. Great guy and I ended up working as a research assistant for him. Cant say I understood EVERYTHING, but I did receive an A.
I would definitely recommend him! He makes sure everything is perfectly clear before he moves on. There are no tricks on his exams at all, and he sends out study guides a few weeks prior. Very interesting, and attendance is not mandatory!
I am not a big fan of Professor Malloy. He is arrogant and puts his students down. He puts people on the spot and mocks them if they don't know the answer to his question.
Very nice man! He is always looking out for the best interest of the students. If you come to class and study you will do perfectly fine. He does give bonus work.
This class was very hard but yet very interesting. Dr. Malloy is very nice and wants the best for his students. He will help you out in any way he can. He doesn't make you buy a textbook which is good. Take Psych 475 with him and you will be feeling like a genius after is done. Only advice is to not miss any classes or else you will fall behind.
Really great teacher. If you attend every class and take good notes you will pass this class. Also he shows videos to help you remember certain topics.
This class is pretty easy. I would highly suggest going to class but you don't have to. He emails out a study guide so you could really just look all the answers up. Really easy A. Buggest complaint is that he is very full of himself. He makes it very clear to you that he is much more superior than you are. Other than that he is a good professor.
I don't understand why people say he's full of himself. I thought he was a pretty fair and good professor. He provides study guides of what is on the exam. Study every term on that list and you'll get a good grade! A lot of notes in class, but there's a lot of material to cover. Deff recommend ! He encouraged me to minor in psych
He is not that bad as others have proclaimed. His lectures are very boring but the videos he shows are very helpful on explaining the material. For being a large lecture, he moves around a lot. All of the materials and deadlines are posted on blackboard so you really could skip every class and go for the exams. Overall, not too bad.
People are too harsh on him. This ended up being my favorite class. Lectures are decent, powerpoint but he puts them online for you to use. I recommend printing them out and bringing it to class. Answers and definitions on power points. Gives study guides, exams are what you expect. Would take him again! (Tells you to buy textbook, DONT)
Lectures are boring, but exams are easy
Enjoyed this Professor compared to other professors in this course. Did enjoy the class. Textbook really helps with the test. Showing up is a good idea to hear what he says.
Really great professor. If you attend the lectures and actually listen to what he has to say, along with a little studying, you will do well. I'm not sure why some people think he's a bad professor. I really enjoyed the class. Take psych with Malloy!
Only three exams, each exam has bonus questions so if you really know your stuff, you can get a really good grade. If you don't show up to class, then some of the slides may seem confusing. Didn't use textbook. Professor was decent, he explained everything as much as he could and helped if needed. Found material boring. It's passable
This course is not easy but is far easier than any of the biology classes I have taken. If you actually pay attention, read the notes and study you are sure to pass this class with a good grade.
Professor Malloy is good. He's not fantastic, but he's definitely not terrible. His lectures are very long and if you're not interested in the subject matter, they can get boring. It may be tempting to skip class, but don't. You will miss a lot of notes. Show up and pay attention and you'll do great. Also, don't buy the book, you don't need it.
lectures were sometimes confusion and his powerpoint did not go in order with the book, study hard on what he talks about in class if you want a good grade on his exam. was not my favorite teacher but wasn't horrible
Professor Malloy was an overall good professor but as the course goes on it seems as though he made the tests harder and harder.
Dr. Malloy was one of the best professors I have ever had. If you are a serious student and actually take the time to go to class you will pass with flying colors. I showed up to every single lecture, he was very enjoyable to listen to. I took notes and made flashcards off the study guides he provided. Very easy A. Excellent professor!
This was by far the best professor I had this semester. Show up for class, read the text book, take his notes, I promise you an A. I wouldnt say he's an easy A, you have to put in your end of the work . But exams come right out of the book and lectures.
Very hard to stay awake but fairly easy class if you can keep your eyes open. He keeps his study guides online so what I did to keep myself awake and learning was printing out a copy and bringing it to class. Whenever he said a key word from the study guide, I wrote it down. Good Luck!!
Professor Thomas Malloy Respect everyone and he is very helpful after class. He is very tough because you need to study a lot and read the book a lot to get ready for 3 exams that count for 90% of your class grade. there are 2 research papers that count for 10% of your grade.
He tends to go on unrelated rants (about his life, etc.--there was a lot of talk about tofo recipes in my class) his lectures are long, but he gives breaks and posts powerpoints online. Over all good teacher. I really enjoyed his class. You don't really need the book unless you want to clarify anything (no need for it). Pretty straight forward.
I am in his class this semester and we already had the first exam. Honestly everything was from his lecture PowerPoint. It was really easy if you studied. no need to buy the book. Just trying to save you money. His exams are all multiple choice so that makes it easier and it is very straight forward. Just go to his lectures and pay attention!!
Very kind and relaxed man. Puts lecture slides online so if you miss a couple classes you do not fall behind. Exams are easy if you take notes during class.
He is one of my favorite professors at RIC. He wants to help you and will not move on until you understand the material. His exams are very straight forward if you go to class and take notes and study them. You don't need the book. So far I have an A- in the class. I highly recommend him. He is awesome and wants to see you pass. Take him!!
Dr. Malloy is a great professor, his exams are based right off of his powerpoint lectures. He makes sure you know the material, and will clarify at any point if it is not clear. There are only 3 exams, not cumulative which is nice. If you need a psych 110 professor definitely take him!! You will not regret it, just study.
Professor Malloy is an amazing professor, very willing to make sure everyone understands his lecture. Only thing I wish was different was that he had more than just our exams to give us grades from, coming from a student who is horrible at test taking I wish he gave us homework or something to help out a little bit more to level out. Overall great!
He honestly was awesome. His lectures were always interesting and always had a story to back up the info he shared. I personally used the book & printed the powerpoints to write notes on and it helped a lot. He's easy to reach through email. He joked around and to me the tests were simple & right from the study guide, & only 3 tests, not cumulative
Second class with him, this class is hybrid. Notes are all on blackboard in PowerPoints, gives links to materials to help understand more. Grading is fair, only see him on exam dates; three exams all together. Had him for psych 110 and loved him, good at explaining and willing to help one to understand a topic more.
I took his hybrid social psych class, which was more like an online class. The only time you come to class is to take the 3 exams. He posts his lectures online, and has study guides for exams. He answers emails quickly if you have questions. Need to work for your grade since it is online, but overall good course. Would take a class with him again.
the material is heavy, but if you follow the study guidelines, you will do just fine.
This class I took was hybrid. I show up 3 different time for the exam itself. You need to stay on top of everything. You cant fall behind. So many material, video and online lecture. There is a study guide to go with it. If you study your stuff you will pass.
Dr. Malloy is very smart, its obvious that he is very passionate about his work I found the classes quite boring and I never showed up. All the lecture notes are online and study guides mirror the exams. Very easy course, just be ready to study!
He is not helpful, he told me I had test anxiety and get help elsewhere... He does not stay focused. It is hard to learn in his lecture. I also feel as if he tries to reach way too much information. He needs a better timeline and change his study guides to reflect the tests better.
This class was the hardest one I took. I was very interested at first, but as the semester went on, it got harder because he doesn't do a good job explaining. its a lecture class so you're on your own. I would suggest taking Psychology with another professor.
Not a fan of this professor. Very lecture heavy and just read straight from the powerpoint slides. Seems to be always talking about himself too. If you don't study hard enough for tests you won't pass. Just save yourself the struggle and take it with a different professor.
Dr. Malloy was not a bad professor. However, he was very confusing at times and the material was very heavy. If you do not study, you won't pass!
Class is based on three exams so if you do poorly on one exam, you won't get the best overall grade. His exams are all multiple choice. Study guides are provided but they are not very helpful. His powerpoints are also on BlackBoard and the book isn't mandatory but I found it best to read the chapters to better understand the topic.
This class was alright. I really only showed up three times to class since the powerpoint lectures were already posted on Blackboard. If you keep up with the powerpoints at home, you'll be able to get a good grade. The final grade depended on three multiple-choice tests and a required participation in a research project.
I found Dr. Malloy's teaching style condescending. I wish he approached students with more esteem for our intellectual curiosity and capacities. He also came off as self-involved ... I wouldn't mind if he included fewer pictures of his swanky vacations. If you study the powerpoints, you should do just fine.
Professor Malloy is not a bad guy his tests are just more difficult than they should be. After studying for hours on end it should be easy to ace and exam but its not in his class the way his exams are makes it difficult.
Class is very simple if you follow the syllabus and go to lectures. Grade is only based on exam scores, so going to lecture is pretty important. He puts no trick questions, as long as you study and go to lecture you'll be fine. I passed with an A. Lectures were interesting and genuinely enjoyed the class.
professor Malloy is excellent. A lots of people say you don't need to go to the class but I can tell you going to the class makes studying for the test so easy, makes sure to make questions if you have any doubts. There are no tricky questions in the test, straight from the power points, read the book it helps(final), pay attention EASY A!!!
Dr. Malloy made the material very interesting and is great at teaching. He provides comprehensive study guides that match exactly what is expected to know for the tests. I got above a 100 on all 3 exams. For those who say "if you don't study, you won't pass" -- this is the case with most of college and not inherently a negative thing. I recommend.
Malloy was the hardest professor I have ever taken. He uses a lot of vocabulary that no first year college student would know, especially if their first time taking a Psychology class was this one. Malloy does not give out study guides, anymore, and is not specific on what will be on the exams.
Dr. Malloy is very smart and very good at his job. DEFINITELY likes to show off how superior he is over you, but is very good at his lectures. The class is graded on only 3 exams with a two weeks notice before, so definitely study for those two weeks. As long as you study the power points, you'll at a B at least. Read the book too, you'll get an A.
This professor made me want to minor is psychology! If you pay attention, read the book, and go to lecture youll get an A! Its not a hard class just a lot of studying (class is based on 3 exams). However, I found the exams SOOO easy. Everything on the exam is based off his slides and some of the book. Just study and youll be fine.
I thought Prof Malloy was a great teacher, you can tell how much he cares about the subject. There were 3 exams, if you went to class and studied the power points you are literally set up for an A. I didnt get anything below a 92 on all of my exams because they were that straightforward. No homework at all, gives out extra credit. Take his class!
Took him for a hybrid class. He know what he's talking about, but forgets that his students don't have his level of education yet, and can come across a bit "high and mighty." One of the main assignments wasn't explained well, and I tried to get a bit more info didn't get much in return. Good guy, and good prof though. Not overly difficult.
Malloy is caring and wants his students to pass. He is amazing with his lectures, grading criteria is clear. Everything is straight from his lectures/powerpoints and during class he will state questions and their answers to know for the exam! Extra Credit is given per each 3 exams (short 1 pg summary) there is honestly no way to fail this class.
Really great professor! Super clear and very open to all questions from his students. I really enjoyed this class.
Malloy is a good teacher and he gets straight to the point. As long as you study the powerpoints, the book, and pay attention in class youll pass. He wont teach something that isnt on the study guide or on the exam. Always pay attention when you go to class!!!
If you are not good at remembering a lot of information for exam do not take his class. Based on 3 exams, the exams are not that hard but it takes a lot of studying to pass, as a first year student I would not recommend because its too much atleast for me it was. Study is no help, just study his slides.
I honestly learned a lot and enjoyed it, in order to really understand the information you HAVE to pay attention to his lectures AND do yourself a favor and read the book it explains everything perfectly! He tends to sometimes over complicate things, but I personally understood him fine. Your grade is based off 3 exams so keep that in mind.
Lectures and exams are intense but not impossible. 3 exams and 6 homeworks. The professor knows the material is difficult but he will work with you, I have never met anyone so patient. He will not make you feel dumb for asking questions and he is willing to work with you. I would advice to show up to class, it will make it easier to understand
Professor Malloy is truly one of the best professors I have ever had. He is caring, empathetic, and is always up to meet one-on-one with students over zoom if you have any questions about how to complete homework. Exams are all open book. Listen to the lectures on 2x speed when he posts recordings -- it helps a lot because the material is dense!!
He only gives out 3 exams with no assignments. Show up to his class and try to pay attention to his lecture. He is very boring and terrible at explaining things. If you do bad on one exam that will mess up your grade overall. Do his extra credit it helps a lot on the exam. Read his lecture notes and take notes on it.
He is a really caring and a respectful professor. All of his exams are open notes but I do recommend studying because there are about 70-80 questions each exam. Lectures drag sometimes but take notes while hes talking because some of the stuff he says that are not on the power points will be on the exams. If you take him do the extra credit!!!
Dr Malloy was amazing. I took research methods II with him. I was incredibly anxious about this course but he was very patient and thorough. The expectations were very direct and clear. The content was very intimidating but he made me feel comfortable and confident. Hands down will absolutely take another class of his.
Attendance isn't mandatory but your grade will definitely reflect if you don't go. Your final grade is the average of the three exams he administers. Take advantage of the extra credit he gives he adds it to the exam grades. Exams aren't difficult and answers are directly from lectures not necessarily the PowerPoint.
His lectures are a must since they are directly towards the 3 exams he gives. Extra credit is given and valuable towards his exams. He may drag on a certain topic in his lectures, but overall is interesting. Please respond when he gives you a question or a statement, it will drag on the lecture if not enough people respond.
He is a great teacher not boring explains things has great power points class has three exams they make up your grade. He also allows you to do extra credit if you want to as well.
the lectures get kind of boring and you take the three exams that make up your grade at home and use w.e. sources, you don't necessarily have to go to class but I would recommend going an if you don't want to stay any longer leave when he gives a break, he can drag certain topics but is overall great, he also responds quickly over email
Dr. Malloy is a really kind and caring professor. His lectures are long and he tends to get off topic but they are important to attend because he goes over what is going to be on the exams. Grade is based off three exams but he provides extra credit for each one so do them!! Also use the study guides provided as well!
Professor Malloy was such a great professor. Lectures are long and the grades are only based on exams, but trust me he makes it so you pass. Exams are taken alone and can be taken with notes and book. The extra credit assigned are interesting, you watch videos and write one paper on it for 5 points added to your exam, very worth it. The best!
This professor is one of the best professors I've ever had! I took Social Psych 215 during the summer, and professor Malloy made it so enjoyable. we were given two papers to write, and professor Malloy was very generous with the time frame given to complete the papers, and also with the feedback/grades I strongly recommend this professor!
The material used for the course was painfully outdated especially given the subject matter. The exams are open book but incredibly difficult so make sure you study. Professor Malloy will not give students higher than a 98% even if he cannot find anything wrong with your work. Horribly, stressful experience with this class.
Honestly I loved professor Malloy. You can clearly tell he is passionate about what he teaches. This course is VERY lecture heavy! There are only 3 exams, study guides are provided, and no homework.
This class was overall not difficult to me, if you're taking intro to psych you'll basically only have 3 exams to do and they're all open note. Attendance isn't mandatory however they include lots of information so it's not smart to miss too much. His lectures were interesting, and I would definitely take him again
overall a great teacher and very passionate about what he does, your graded on 3 exams and he offers lots of extra credit, topics are very interesting. if you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine
One of my favorite professors! Mr. Malloy is caring, seems to be very passionate about what he teaches, and he also doesn't give much homework. He would provide 3 exams with study guides to help you study, and rarely gave homework assignments. As long as you show up for class and do the readings, you are guaranteed a good grade!
Although he gives 3 exams throughout the semester, they are very easy if you study and read the book he assigns. I loved my online course experience with Prof. Malloy and would take another class with him. He is understanding and willing to help outside of class. One of the best online teachers!
I had him for Intro to Psych, it was a good class. It is very lecture heavy, but to be honest, you don't really even need to pay attention. He gives you three extra credit for each of the three big tests you have this semester. He gives you a lot of hints of what's on the tests and he posts all the lectures online, free textbook, use notes on test.
Professor Malloy is engaging, but the course is lecture-heavy. Three exams and no homework, but studying the slides is crucial. unstuck AI and ChatGPT helped with prep.
The lectures were heavy loaded with information but he is good at explaining the material. He did not take attendance and exams were online take homes...just saying. He did give extra credit opportunities as well which were writing assignments but overall easy class.
This professor was excellent clear, approachable, and supportive. She explained material in a way that was easy to understand and always welcomed questions. Expectations were fair, assignments were meaningful, and she encouraged different learning styles. I highly recommend his class. Doctor Malloy is very understanding just do your work !!
Such a good prof. he is always talking about something new in the funniest ways. Lecture heavy class, I'd recommend taking notes before the lecture and listening when there. Attendance isn't mandatory but I'd still go here and there, also tests are open notes and not in the class; do with that info as you will.
Malloy is very brilliant and also pretty funny. The class is definitely lecture-heavy, but the tests are open-note and online, which makes it fairly easy to pass. His lectures are engaging, and since it's a fairly long class, he even gives a short break in between. I really enjoyed having him!
