I wish if I hadn't taken his class;I hated chem. and gave up on Med.school. His tests are so long that no one can finish. and there are alot of calculations involved. He pretends to be nice but he is evreything but nice he is Robot!
Dr. Mucciaro is the best college professor i've ever had. He isnt the easiest, but he definitely does an excellent job making the most difficult subjects easier. He also makes himself readily available for help. I've had him for Chem 130, 220, 225
Dr. Mucciaro is an excellent teacher. He takes time to explain everything thoroughly. I wish I had him for all my chem courses. If you dont do well in his class its your own fault.
If you do not understand something, he will be the first to spend time with you going through everything you don't get. He is one of the greatest instructors I have ever had.
To turn Organic Chem into a more understanding class is not that easy.. but Mucciaro achieves that. The class is not as bad as I thought after I actually put some studyin time into it. Mucciaro's lecture notes def helped out.
one of the best professor's on Campus. With Dr. Mucciaro's lecture style he makes easy for anyone to do well in any course he teaches.
Great teacher, fair tests, kick ass class notes that help alot for studying.
I love his class! He made O-Chem easy to understand and interesting with all his graduate-years stories. A very enjoying class but you need to understand everything he taught in order to do well in his class. His tests are very detail but fair.
I had him at UCI this summer for organic chem, he made the class very understandable; he went out of his way to make sure we would be able to handle the amount of information being taught in the limited timeframe. His tests are quite easy, and fair.
Mr. Mucciaro is helpful only in the beggining, but at the end, if you keep asking questions he will get mad and he will try to push you away. That's discouraging. He is really boring.
Dr. Mucciaro is an excellent teacher who turned boring OChem to something fun. His class notes are very detailed and easy to understand. If you listen to his advice and study your flashcards and at least 1 hr a day, you will definitely do well in his class. I wish I could have had him for all my chem classes.
His Ochem class is one of the best. His notes are detailed and the best resource for study. Tests are not easy but possible to get an A if you study his notes and do all the homework. He is very helpful and the nicest chemistry teacher I have ever had. If you really want to learn chem take his class.
he's awesome, extremely helpful and organized. I love his penmanship. He's a neatfreak. I wish i could take o chem with him but im taking it at ucla
Top notch professor. Great notes, very helpful and not boring! He likes to tie in O-chem with the outside world. He's always prepared. He teaches at UCI in the summer. And best of all, he's a major game freak. He's played all the major MMORPGs, console games, and computer games. I even play World of Warcraft with him! Very cool and down to Earth!
Dr Mucciaro is the best Organic Chemistry in the world. His lectures are well prepared and well presented. He goes out of his way to help you understand Ochem. I can't imagine any ochem professor better than him.
Dr. Mucciaro is woderful professor. This is first chemistry teacher I know how to teach chemistry. if you want to learn chemistry, take him.
one of the best organic chemistry teacher. Teaches you the basics so that you understand the whole concept. Does not rush and his notes are very organized and easy to understand.
There are teachers who know their chemistry but don't know how to teach it. And then there is Dr. Mucciaro. Dr. Mucciaro goes step by step and makes you understand the very basic concept of organic chemistry. You must study his notes word for word. You will learn a lot from his class. Don't slack off at the beginning.
People with high connectivity (ablility to connect one unrelated thing to another) do well in this class. Also, some O-chem 1 stuffs reappear (what do you expect?); there are about 80+ specific rxns that you need to remember/understand (scare yet?). Don't be since most rxns are similar to the other and you have 3 months to learn them. Good Luck
Dr Mucciaro is one of the best organic chemistry teacher I ever had. He will teach you step by step everything you need to know. I took him for the fall and I got an A. He is very helpful and one of the woderful teacher in Occ. If you want to learn chemistry take him. The best teacher.....
Mr. Mucciaro is one of the best professors. He makes the exams and the final as easy as possible even though the material itself is very hard. He is very dedicated, helpful, respecful, and courteous. He is the best!!!!!!!!!!!
Words to describe Dr Mucciaro: Highly intelligent, patient Standford graduate, kind, caring, helpful, easygoing, humble. In my long career as a student, I can wholeheartedly say that Dr. Mucciaro is THE BEST prof. I have ever had. He effectively makes a difficult topic easy to understand with his awesome lectures. A great, outstanding human being also
He is rock. highly recommended.
I took Dr.Laux for 130 and now in UCI and took Dr.Mucc for 51A in summer. If you took Dr.Laxu, their teaching style is very engaging and very easy to understand. ALthough Dr.Laux is way more of a comedian, they are the best chemistry professor I ever had! These are the people that make me want to be a professor like them! 8 more years till phd!
Your grade is proportional to the time you spend studying. I get the feeling he cares about students getting good grades more then some of the students. Dr. M is a fair and practical man; he gives good advice. His lectures are well organized and the same goes for his pre-typed fill-in lecture notes. Read ahead to understand lectures better.
Dr. Mucciaro is an amazing teacher. He is incredibly clear in his teaching and in what he expects from his students. The subject matter is intense but interesting. This class will require a lot of your time but Dr. M is a wealth of knowledge and cares very much about his students. His lectures are fascinating. I highly recommend him!
I love Dr. Mucciaro! My major was not Chem (actually EE), but I heard he was a great teacher, so I thought what the hell:) Well he was sooo good, I would have to say he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I took Chem 220, 221, 225, and 226 (all organic with labs). And I am doing my PhDEE now at USC, so I have seen my share of teachers.
Muccario can be tough at times but you know he does it for your own good. He's extremly helpful and really cares about teaching in a way thats very clear for his students. so far my favorite chem teacher ever
The material is difficult, but Dr. Mucciaro is willing to meet with you and help you understand it. He is very approachable and really cares about the success of his students. I am so happy I was able to take him for both semesters of o chem.
Took 220/221 and 225/226 with him and I definitely recommend him to everyone taking ochem. All the tests are the same format so you know EXACTLY what to expect. Everything is laid out for you in his lecture; you just need to put in the time and effort. Lab is extremely laid back, he emphasizes learning the procedures rather than your results.
OChem wasn't was hard as I'd expected, mainly b/c of Dr. M. His notes are AWESOME!!! He writes down the stuff you needa put in the blanks and he COLORCODES stuff!! when you go to his office hours for help, he takes the time to explain things to you so you'd understand. his exams are very fair, even his final. not too hard. and his daughter's cute!!
canceled class almost every other week which was nice :)
I can not say enough good things about Dr. M. He is the most caring professor you'll ever meet. He's crystal clear during lectures (I love his color coded lecture notes) and his tests are extremely fair. Only tests on stuff he's gone over. The class isn't hard bc he teaches so well. I'm restudying ochem for the DAT and I feel prepared bc of him!
O Chem is hard wherever you take it. In fact this class is not hard at all. It's only hard to get an A. Dr. M is super lenient on everything (hw and test dates) and super helpful! If you put in the hours and do the homework you can do it!
I took this professor from OCHEM 1 through 2. An excellent teacher. Provides notes with fill-ins. Tests are FAIR, with one or two tricky questions thrown in. Homework is mandatory, but not graded on correctness and instead you get points for turning it in. DO the homework. DO the study guides, and you'll be more than fine. Truly an blessing at OCC.
Dr Mucciaro is a very good professor. He is really knowledgeable and likes to talk about real world topics sometimes. He is ridiculously smart when it comes to organic chemistry. He also is really helpful during office hours. He had his 2nd child this semester which affected the class quite a bit but he did his best to make it up to the students.
Dr. Mucciaro is one of the most sincere and caring people I have ever met. He's the best professor I've had at OCC, & the only one to genuinely care about students success not only in his class but in life. His test are fair and his final grading is lenient and considerate. This man's vast knowledge of ochem will change the way you see the world.
I took him for lab. Really kind and sincere professor. He shows that he truly cares for his students, and he makes himself very approachable if you have any questions. I enjoyed his class.
Took lab with him for Chem 130 and Appel for lecture. Very clear, likes to teach you his ways which can be better than Appel's. Will help you and even give you the answers. Also gives you some insight about Appel's class. Nice guy. There are prelabs, but he doesn't always collect them. Not sure what I got in lab, but I got a B in chem 130.
He is fair, clear, and extremely easy. His class is a breeze. But he does NOT prepare you well for standardized exams, such as GRE or MCAT. He skipped most of the spectroscopy stuff, which will show up on those exams. If you won't go any further after undergrad, take him. He is biased, too! He shows enthusiasm in helping students he likes.
Great teacher that loves the subject. He has notes for us that makes it easy to follow along. He also gives homework and practice sheets which normally reflect the tests. None of that "test you on minor useless detail" crap. Anyone who gives him a bad rating is probably expecting something easier. Just don't procrastinate and blame the professor.
Ochem 2 is way easier than ochem 1. He is an easy professor and skips classes a lot due to problems with his children. I still feel like he still babies a lot with his filled in notes and problly wont prepare u very well for upper division classes . Hes very biased to so try to get on his good sides
He is very helpful during office hours and will explain anything as much as you need. His tests are easy in that there are no surprises, but hard in that he is able to cover everything. I suggest taking ochem when you have "lighter" classes to go along with it as it will consume the majority of your time. Great teacher though.
Easy to get a B/C but for an A, you must make a couple sacrifices. Like sleep. His lectures are interesting and easy to grasp. His lab is almost too easy. It's so fun and if you're good with lab, you get to leave early. Tests are not timed but can be tricky. It's easy to get points docked off so REALLY KNOW YOUR STUFF. It's ochem. It's fun, too.
Awesome, great professor; very hard class. Enough said.
You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His tests are extremely fair, nothing that wasn't covered in lecture. He tells you exactly what to study and how to study for it. Do the homework, go to lecture and you'll get an A. HIGHLY recommend going to his office hours and taking CHEM020/025 with CHEM220/CHEM225
Boy he wasn't kidding when he said you just need to show up to class to pass with a C. There are some people in the class who I don't know how they passed. With that being said, a B and C is easily attainable if you just put in effort. For an A you need to make some sacrifices... like a lot of sleep. I got a B. He's very helpful if you have any ?s.
Mucciaro is a godsend. There for his students, always ready to help and explain, and generally one of the most laid back professors you'll ever meet. -Attend his seminar. -Do his homework. If you can do every homework problem an A is not a problem. -Ask for help. He's there for you. -Do the homework/practice again.
He is helpful and alway there to answer your question!!!!
Great professor who always help his students. If you do all the HW and study his notes you will get an A for sure!
Dr.M is such a great teacher! He was so helpful in explaining things and always told funny stories during lecture. I was able to get him for 220 & 225. Do your homework, review homework before test, understand all mechanisms, make your flashcards, do an hour day (this was tough but do it!) and youll do great! :) Also labs I'd get out super early :D
Mucciaro is an incredible teacher, and a real lifesaver for a course as potentially difficult as O. chem. Has an incredible understanding of the life and demands of a science major student, and adjusts the content appropriately. EXTREMELY helpful and will help you work through just about any question, anytime and anywhere. Amazing professor, 10/10.
Hes by far the most understanding, reasonable, organized, caring, patient professor I have ever met. Have questions? Go ask! He makes himself available! Honestly my favorite professor!
Great professor that makes a difficult class understandable. The material can be much harder but he doesn't throw curve balls. All holistic tests that cover everything. Ochem is time-in-time-out. Do everything he assigns you and you'll get a B at least. You can't skip reading. Went into the final with a high 98.2 Grades won't be posted for a week.
He's willing to help and motivate you to get good grades. 3 midterms and 1 final. The final was the hardest one, the average was 65% which is an F. What bothered me about this class was we never started taking the exams on time, we always took them about 8-10 minutes late.
TIME IN IS TIME OUT. Do all the assigned work. Maybe twice if you don't get it. Take his prep course and he'll show you cool tricks and elaborate on everything. If you slice an hour out of everyday for this course you'll get an A. (Got a 97%). Everyone I know who did everything *on time* (not cramming) got an A. Be smart w/ your time. Get an A.
Dr.M you da real mvp. i r8 8/8 would take again! and he plays World of Warcraft, not sure if still though :)
AMAZING. CONSIDERATE. AVAILABLE. COMPASSIONATE. Dr. M is THE best professor. Took him for O chem A &B & could not have asked for anyone better. Not an easy A but if you keep up w/ homework, ask questions & read his notes carefully, an A will be no problem. Took him for lab both semesters & he's amazing there too. You're not graded on being "right"
O-chem is a difficult task and that's probably going to be the case no matter where you take it but Dr. M had a clear grading criteria and you get to drop 1/4 of the exams. His lectures are fairly clear but all work assigned is from the textbook, his review pages are more helpful but extremely limited. You can get an A if you take time to ask quest
What a guy!!! Honestly take this guy for Ochem, his class will make you love chemistry even if you are a Bio major like me. An A is possible if you read the book, study the notes, and do the HW. Tests are based on notes. Great lecture AND lab professor. Really considerate, funny, intellectual, and amazing. Definitely recommend.
Dr. M is by far the best professor I have ever taken. He is genuinely the most caring professor at OCC. He cares about every single student and wants all his students to understand O-chem. If you don't pass the class is because you don't care, you are lazy, or you have too much going on. Nevertheless, this is the professor you want for O-Chem.
Professor Mucciaro makes O-Chem a manageable and fun subject. He is easily one the most funny and caring professors I have ever had. We had three tests and a final (which is worth two tests) and we were allowed to drop one test. Despite him having awesome notes/lectures, the subject is still hard and DO EVERY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. Makes life easier
Dr. M is one of the most caring and fair professors at OCC. He lets you drop the lowest exam and the final counts as two exams. Do all the homework, go to office hours, and don't fall behind. Ochem will be a tough subject no matter what but Dr. M makes it bearable.
BEST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME during my community college career. Extremely sweet and accommodating. But you still have to study hard because his test can be tricky and challenging sometimes. Bonus point is he teaches you how to study effectively too. I really wish more professors would be more like him. I missed this class so much!!!
Amazing professor. I took him for 220/225 and I got an A in both by simply studying the homework (he gives a lot), and then applying that knowledge towards the exams. He gives study guides for all exams, but the HW helps more. There are four exams, drops the lowest, generous grader, study two hours a day to make this class a breeze. BOOK MANDATRY
BEST PROFFESOR EVER. Dr. M has a true gift for teaching. An A is possible if you do all the work. He genuinely cares about his students and their understanding of chemistry. 4 exams and he drops the lowest score. Wish every professor was like him.
Dr. M is an amazing professor, I wish more teachers were like him!!! He is so caring and passionate about chemistry and will make way to answer all students questions. His exams add up to his lectures and homework and if you study the material, there is no reason you can't pass or even get an A. I can't wait to take him for chem 185 too.
This is hands down one of my all time favorite professors. I was horrified of chem, especially Ochem, but he takes an abstract subject and makes it understandable. He is honestly the most kind, caring, and fair professor I have ever had. Not only that, but he is freaking hilarious and is so fun to talk to. I highly recommend this professor!
I seriously idolize him. He is the nicest professor ever, caring for his students and would not mind talking to you for hours about any worries you want to share with him.
Dr. M makes you enjoy Ochem! He wants you to do well in the class and encourages you to ask questions. Seriously will never forget this guy. So sweet and has great stories to tell. He simplifies ochem to make students understand it. BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!
The reviews of Dr. M are very accurate, he truly is the best chemistry if not overall professor at OCC. It's weird to say that given he teaches one of the hardest and most difficult classes but he truly loves what he does and it shows. Not only does he make the material easier to comprehend but he cares about his students immensely. Love the man.
One of th best professors Ive had at OCC. His tests are very reasonable and reflect exactly what you do in class. Do the homework, study guides, and go to problem solving and youll be sure to get an A. A lot more doable than general chemistry.
I LOVED Mucciaro and can't wait to take him again for 225. He's an amazing professor that cares a lot for his students and wants them to succeed. He makes OChem easy, and teach you step by step for everything. Do ALL the HW and go to office hours! he is very accessible. He's extremely funny as well. Extremely knowledgeable and relates chem to life
Honestly one of the best professors in OCC. He truly cares about students and is very helpful when answering our questions. Super knowledgeable. He knows his stuff! Great lectures, he makes organic chemistry easier to understand. I also loved listening to his stories. Very funny. Study hard, do the homework, and you will pass!
Amazing professor, super funny and caring. He will always be there to help if you need it. He's very understanding, especially during the COVID situation. Definitely one of the best professors at OCC and should be your number one choice and option for OCHEM.
He uses Mastering chemistry to give us homework and exams. He is very understandable for due dates of assignments. He tries to listen to every students. He grades by homework and exams. He gave us 3 exams when I took the course. Even though he does not post most of grades on Canvas through the semester, he is kind and nice teacher, so I recommend.
He used Sapling to give us the lab works instead of having the actual labs. He let us submit each labs as many as we wanted, so most of us submitted each labs until we got 100 %. He posted notes and recordings for each lab, so we could read or watch them prior to work on the labs. He had zoom meetings to answer the questions from us for the labs.
Hes the best!! Hes super helpful and his lectures are great. If you attend his lectures and take good notes you will do well in the class.
Dr. M was a great professor. He was very knowledgable and caring. I had a great time with him in O-Chem 1 fall 2021. I am hoping to take him for O-Chem 2, but it seems like the school is forcing students to go in-person despite the spike in covid cases which is scary. If i could safely take him online for O-Chem 2 I totally would. He is amazing!
I took Dr. M for 220 and 225 for both labs and lecture. He is extremely helpful and super sweet. He really cares about the success of students. Do the study guides and watch the lectures. Had this misconception that ochem would be super hard, he makes it really easy to learn. Labs are super easy. He's amazing. Do yourself a favor and take him!!
After taking his class, I can confirm the ratemyprof reviews for Dr. M are correct. He's one of the best professor's I've encountered. Very understanding, caring, and most importantly knows how to teach the material well. Highly recommend taking his class; I'm very glad that I did. But be prepared to put in the work, definitely not an easy A.
Professor Thomas Mucciaro is the best Professor I have ever taken. He is very caring and sweet. I wish I could take him for every Chem class. Prepare well on the study guide, and you will be good for the exam.
Grade is based on the average of exams. Lowest exam gets dropped, final exam is optional. Watch the lecture videos and devote time to do the study guides and you'll be fine. Dr. Mucciaro gives you a new understanding and appreciation to organic chemistry that you will carry on into your future career. He is kind and truly cares about his students.
I did not like the way he teaches.
Dr. Mucciaro is the BEST professor I have ever had. 1) he is very in touch with his students and receptive to feedback. 2) His class structure, lectures, notes, and YouTube videos are all very effective and organized. 3) EVERY test question is fair, was structured just like the study guide, and was covered in the notes. HIGHLY recommend!
He is so secure with his knowledge. Sometimes professors ( in general) can be defensive because what they know is limited. That is not the case for Professor Mucciaro. He is always calm, always listens, and has such a gentle way to talk to students. He is very supportive and understanding to students with colors and empathetic toward them 100/10
one of the best professors you will ever have! do yourself a favor and take Dr M!
The word count is too low to describe how amazing he is! His class is like a breath of fresh air because he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The exams are designed for people to pass--he never wants us to fail and it's clear through his lectures as well. Genuinely the kindest and humble professor I've had at OCC!!
He's an amazing professor! He really wants his students to succeed, and getting A's on his exams is attainable. His class is still difficult to make you work hard for your grade and doesn't make you feel stupid for any question. His tests are based on in class worksheets and study guides, so it's never a surprise.
a really nice guy. You will be relieved to take ochem after genchem at occ. Note: he teaches flipped classroom style. You will do absolutely perfect if you spend even just 30 min every day watching his short lectures and doing the homework. lab is easy but make sure to know the concepts, lab final was no joke. also memorize your mechanisms asap.
I enjoyed Orgo
Took both his lab and lecture course over the summer and really enjoyed it! Watch the lectures on his YT channel (flipped classroom), do the study guide/homework and you'll thrive. Lecture grade is only based on 4 exams (1 dropped) and there is a lab final. Super lenient and understanding so if you love yourself, take him.
Took an 8-week course over summer with him and enjoyed it. Just do your homework and you won't be surprised on the exams. Lecture grade is only based on 4 exams (drops lowest one).
Flipped Classroom I don't really like it bc it makes students responsible for teaching themselves via his online lectures. It's okay but to follow the study schedule thats "optional" is the backbone of the class. OCHEM is a STEM class and chemistry is sometimes hard to follow bc i'm confused on questions. Reviews pract quizes in class thats it.
Uses COVID lectures when the pandemic is over and he refuses to make new videos. The examples he uses are already done, so he's explaining what he did when there's already doodles — I HATE this bc how else would you approach a problem when we have a study guide and practice homework online and we don't know how to approach a problem in OCHEM.
