Read the text, get an A. Easy class, but no one cares.Wing it by studying just vocab to get a B
He's very smart yet understandable at the same time. Gives good examples to help understand lessons. Tests are fair, you can study only the notes and make an A on all tests. Whoever said "no one cares" needs to come out of the bubble they're living in.
Easy professor, only had 4 tests all multiple choice with 40-45 questions. Final was not cumulative. Would take any of this professors classes.
3 Tests all worth 33.33%. If you miss a debate, you lose 2 points from your test grade (unless he 'forgets' to take attendance that day - not fair to students who were penalized for other days.) If you dont do good on the first test, your final grade is screwed. Good Prof, but would not recommend based on unfair grading scale.
Hes a pretty interesting teacher, makes really good points. His lectures are pretty good, they are not hard to sit through. The tests are clear, he'll tell you whats on them if you ask the right questions.
Great Prof. Highly recommended would do any class this guy teaches. He keeps your interest.
Dr Nisley's lectures are easy to sit through, and he is very informative. He makes advanced political science, "International Relations," fun, learnable, and interesting. I would take any of his classes.
tests are extremely tricky. I wouldn't take him again for anything. Tells you what chapters to study. 4 tests - 25% each.
This is a class you need to read the textbook in! There are 3 tests, no curve, no extra credit, so if you screw up on one it is very hard to bring up your grade, other than that he is an awesome teacher and is very knowledgable about the topic and the lectures are very very good! I took alot away from this class and would highly reccomend it !
Awesome class. Only 3 tests, no daily work. Goes beyond basic material. Get "Taking sides," the other book isnt important.
Brilliant guy, really learned a lot from him. He is very balanced on his topic discussions. I would take more of his classes. Although, don't screw around and not study for his tests, you'll regret it. Just learn the vocab in the chapters your on and everything will be good.
He required the book for class, but we never really used it. Only thng tht we needed to turn in was 3 papers and 1 presentation. Used book for papers, but can use websites or other materials. Save money and dont buy books. Did not really need to come to class, as his notes were not used in my papers. NO TESTS/EXAMS! Great class though, informative.
Very knowledgeable, and helpful. Very fair grading the first essay, and was helpful enough to teach some english lessons of improvement, by clearly showing mistakes. Great teacher.
If your a lazy guy like me, this class is for you. He only assigns 4 tests throughout the semester, and maybe an extra credit assignment. attendance not mandatory but u better get the notes from someone. Tests are kinda hard, so you gotta study. No curves. But I would recommend him to anyone because there is not a big work load.
Interesting Class. Study for the tests but if you look at notes and vocab you'll do fine
Excellent teacher--knows this subject inside and out & his lectures make this somewhat hard subject very understandable. He only gives 4 tests, doesn't take attendance, but you will want to attend and take lots of notes to do well on tests. There were also extra credit opportunities with writing short reports on int'l films attended at the school.
Good teacher
he speaks proper english!!!! rare at this school. lectures were simple and well put together. if i wasnt an arch major i prolly would have gotten an A.
Great teacher, knows this subject extremely well. Interesting lectures, makes you rethink your positions on world affairs. I highly recommend him.
Great teacher! Interesting class and won't bore you to death with powerpoint. Before this class, I had zero interest in Political Science but this turned out to be my favorite class. 4 tests, no other assignments. The tests are average, all multiple choice. I'd take any of his classes.
used the text book for each chapter, all notes on power point, but does not read from them. Test are average hardness.
Great teacher, i would take him again if given the chance. hes not the easiest but his class is interesting and he gives extra credit and bonus points
great professor. if you dont want to study or attend class dont bother to register for the class.
He is the best teacher in this department. Go to every class and pay attention and you will do good.
This professor rocks. He's publishing and a great teacher.
Dr. Nisley is a great professor. He has a genuine enthusiasm for the political science field. As for this class, make sure you attend all the lectures and read all assignments, or you'll have no idea which way is up. My class had 4 multiple choice tests, all around 40 questions, some of which based on current news events.
Professor knows his material but tests are tough because they are worded differently than lectures or in the book. I have taken advanced mathematical and programming courses that were easier.
Don't take global issues with him. He'll tell the class that he isn't a history teacher but he is. Gave only 3 test with 50 multiple choice questions on each test which included specific names and dates. All he does in class is read words from his power points. No extra credit. Don't waste time reading the book. Memorize his power points to get a B
I took Global Issues with this professor and I really feel like this class changed my life in how I see the world. I expected to hate it because I have never been a big fan of world politics or history, but I found myself excited to go to his class and found a true interest for world politics. He grades fairly and is an amazing teacher.
Great professor. Negative feedback must be from lazy students who took advantage of non mandatory attendance. Look, take notes, study KEY TERMS FROM THE BOOK, and ask questions and you'll be solid. There are only four grades, and the class average for each test hasn't been below a 70 meaning quite a few kids make A's. Not too boring either!
4 grades, so come to class and follow the notes he gives you. Tests are straight from the notes, so it is an easy B if you bother to try. So many people cutt class and they rank low.
Im taking him now and he is a very engaging professor. doesn't put you to sleeep like other political science professors. Like a high school class and quite easy to me.
This is a good professor. There are 4 tests. In order to do well you MUST attend EVERY class. Study the textbook as well. He will make test questions out of things that easily can be missed if you aren't paying attention. Tests are not easy by any means and there are 5 choices (a-e). Don't be afraid to take him if you will pay attention.
Good class. Be up to date on your politics before every class because he randomly selects students to tell the class about them almost every class. Show effort, participate, and show up to class and you could get your grade bumped from an 89 to a 90 like I did!
You end up taking five tests. not cumulative what so ever. Five sections of two topics. Pay attention in class and read your slides and you will EXCEL I PROMISE! Extremely nice guy and wonderful educator!
4 tests throughout the semester. No quizzes or homework. I hate government classes but I came out with a fairly easy A! He's a really nice guy. Sometimes calls on random people for current events, but you could always pretend like you're not there lol Lectures are boring, but he makes it easy to understand. Would recommend if gov isn't your thing!
Great Professor, clear grading criteria. 4 test all questions taken from the lectures. Puts the power points on d2l but would highly recommend not skipping. overall great class
great professor
10/10 would recommend Nisley. He takes a boring class and gives you a good laugh out of it. Lectures are fairly interesting. You have 4 tests the entire semester and that's your grade. Tests are easy as long as you do the reading.
He was a great professor. Lectures were fairly straight-forward and most of the time they were interesting. Be sure to keep up to date with the news because he will randomly call on people to share about something they read in the news. 4 tests that are based off of the lectures and the reading. would take again!
I would recommend taking him, he's awesome. Tests are okay, it's only 4 the entire semester and thats your grade. If you study, you should at least pass but questions are a little tricky. All material is posted on D2L, book isn't really needed, keep up with current news for bonus points
Take this class if you are good at taking tests because there are 4 and tests are the only grades you get. He's a good professor because he is somewhat neutral in politics. I suggest going to class every day because the notes you take will help on the test and also just make sure you know the key terms from the chapters per test.
TAKE HIM! The only grades for the class are the 4 tests. There is no cumulative final, the 4th test is given on the final date. Study his in class notes and key terms out of the book, and you will do GREAT!
Take this class!! There are only 4 tests & the last test is actually the final. His lectures aren't boring and he makes the class interesting. I may end up with a B, but that is only because I didn't take him serious when he said that we should read the book.
WONDERFUL!!! His class is not a "show up and pass"type deal. You gotta study and read, but he is very clear what information he expects you to know for the tests! He emphasizes those things in his lectures, and tells you key terms in the text book. I have done well on all the tests so far doing that. I plan on taking his Global Issues class too!
Wow, you have to work for your grade. Tests consisted of multiple choice and four short answer essay questions. There are four exams. Two of them the essays were in class and the other two exams the other essay questions were out of class. The last assignment is a book review essay due on the day of the final. Got an A though!
Dr. Nissley is a great professor. He gives 4 tests, and they are directly off of the powerpoints he gives in class. He says you have to read the book, but if you just go over the key terms, you will be good. He gives extra credit questions on the tests about current events. tests are 50 questions multiple choice. easy A if you go and take notes
There are only four tests in the class. Professor Nisley was a good professor with interesting lectures, but the answer choices and wording on the tests were confusing. Because of the this, I ended up getting a B in a class that should've been an easy A.
Well, there's only four tests, and he doesn't really tell you what to study for the first test, so nobody does very well on the first test, then you all freakout, and everything ends okay. Just memorise the vocabulary and the court cases and you'll be fine.
Knows what he's talking about and cares that his students leave having learned about American government. His tests are hard. I had the highest grade in the class, but that was because I studied the entire weekend and never missed class. If you don't want to work, don't take his class. I'm taking him again, but I like learning so keep that in mind
Prof Nisley is honestly one of the best professors I've had at KSU. His lectures are incredibly interesting and engaging, he has a great sense of humor, and he gives you honest, objective answers. He has 4 tests throughout the year and each one is an easy A as long as you come to class and study the vocab words from the book. I loved him.
If you want an easy A this is not the teacher to go for, but if you want interesting lectures that make you suprisingly interested in politics then this is the guy for the job. You are only graded on 4 tests, all multiple choice. Take them seriously because these are not the easy multiple choice tests you take in high school. They are college level
4 tests and they were hard. Said he would not test us on specific things, then he did. He was not the nicest professor to discuss things with. He is a nice guy, really prepares you for life, the world will not just hand you things you really have to work for stuff.
Professor Nisley is great! I did well in his class. I was scared to take this class considering he only gives 4 tests and THAT'S IT! He does NOT allow extra credit either. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, Nisley goes over power points every class and provides more detail as well. His power points and tests are very similar! Take him!
He is cool and you can tell he cares about his work but he I wish he would care more about his students.
He is very good at producing easy-to-follow, interesting lectures that do a nice job of teaching the material. Though attendance is optional, it is in the student's best interest to show up to most classes unless a C or lower is the goal. He assigns a lot of reading and the entire class grade is based off 4 tests; it is tough but doable.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
He is intelligent and knows how to teach. You can tell he is passionate about political science and that makes the class interesting. He makes you work for an A but it is attainable as long as you go to class and take notes. 4 detail focused, multiple choice tests. Miss class? Get the notes from someone else. You also have to read a short book.
Hes a nice guy but even when I studied I didnt do well on his tests. Theres only four the whole semester so if you dont do well youre out of luck. He gives no extra credit or study guides. He posts the PowerPoints on D2L but theyre super short and dont explain anything. His tests are worded super weird like hes trying to trick you.
Only four tests. Tests are fine but they are worded in an odd and confusing way sometimes. Take solid notes in class. If you go to class and study you will pass. Getting an A is challenging but he does a good job in his lectures, you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching. Government is not my strong spot but I did fine.
Good teacher, but only graded on 4 tests
Nisley really cares about his students not only understanding the material but applying it to the outside world. CAUTION: only graded by 3 exams. Exams: 90% on powerpoints/lectured material, 10% terms/definitions from each chapter. He does not provide study guides. You have the opportunity for extra credit with knowing/sharing recent news events.
Nisley is really helpful and gives you a run-down of what will be on each test. Your whole grade is based on 4 tests. No final. Take notes in class and look at key terms in text-book which he has on reserve in the library and I used that instead of paying fro it. "Is the american century?" book is on the online database free at Sturgis library.
Graded on four tests, but they each have extra 'Current Events' questions that you can get if you pay attention. Enjoyable lectures. I highly recommend him.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE A BAD TEST TAKER . He is a really good teacher that is passionate about the subject but only gives 4 tests. If youre not good at American government or memorizing things you will fail. I took this class because I thought that I would be interested if my prof was passionate about the subject and I was wrong.
Nisley is awesome! know your key terms, show up to class, study the power points and you will do great. The class only has 4 tests so make sure you study not just the day of. However, 5 bonus pts are offered every test for current events discussed in class. Take him if you can, not only a wonderful teacher but he is always there if you need help.
Really good professor gets straight to the point in the lectures. As long as you show up to class and read the textbook this class is really fun and easy.
Loved his class! 4 tests are your only grades. 4th test is the final-IT'S NONCUMULATIVE. He puts ppts on D2l,but go to class for current event bonus points on the test. his lectures were amazing, and he's a very nice guy. Print the notes, write what he says in lecture, study that and you'll be fine! Wish i could take another class with him!
Great guy with amazing lectures, Only 4 tests, study! If you aren't a good test taker, don't take him. As long as you read textbook and power points (he posts them) then you'll do fine.
One of my favorite professors I've had. Very knowledgeable about the subject. Lectures were interesting and useful. I took a summer course and there were 3 tests only. Show up to class, read the book, take notes and you will pass. Tests are 50 questions multiple choice with 3 bonus questions.
I loved his class. The lectures were interesting and he was very knowledgable. There are only 4 tests and two papers. As long as you read the text and pay attention in class you will do fine. I would definitely take him again if given the option.
Professor Nisley is a very nice man and he is pretty clear in his lectures. If you just take notes in class of his powerpoints/lectures, you should do fine. I made quizlets for the tests from my notes and made an A on every test. No tricky questions & offers extra credit questions at the end of the test about current events so stay up to date!
Dr. Nisley is really knowledgable in this subject and really cares about it. His test are mainly what he goes over in class and some of the things are in the book. His tests also have extra credit for current events that are talked about in class which helps. This is a gen ed so if you show up and give somewhat of an effort, you'll get an A
Dr. Nisley is a very knowledgeable and he cares about teaching. His lectures are extremely organized and gives you clear instructions on what you need to study. Make sure you listen to his lectures and read the textbook, since he pulls test questions from both. 4 tests and weekly homework assignments but very manageable.
Dr. Nisley was excellent at explaining how political science works. This was an easy A for me as long as you listen to the lectures and read through the material you'll do great. Always ask questions if you don't understand.
His format was clear and to the point with only discussion posts and few tests. As long as you take good notes from the lectures and know the key terms, you'll do well on the tests. The questions are taken straight from there.
Had to take the course online due to the pandemic. Very clear on assignments and doesnt hesitate to clear anything up. 4 test, a review essay, and 5 discussion posts. He doesnt use Lockdown Browser and I found the tests doable. Not an easy A but isnt hard to obtain one.
Professor Nisley was not a BAD professor. I do however think he was a little biased and kinda went off course one too many times referring to the election instead of what would be on the test. The tests were also very biased in his opinion about certain people. I do however like how his lectures are set up and how there is not a lot go homework.
Wonderful professor! I have learned a lot from the lectures and book. Clear cut checklist each week, straightforward, and very swift with kind feedback! His appreciation of his students is inspirational and makes you want to do a great job! Very humble and even took classes himself to prepare for online classes! Thanks professor!
I took an asynchronous class with Dr. Nisley and he was an excellent teacher. His tests were all multiple choice and it was not difficult to get an A, but I still learned a lot. As long as you watch the lectures, take notes, and read the very short book at the end of the class, you should not have any trouble getting an A.
Prof. Nisley isn't a bad professor, the class was just a little slow and too lecture-heavy for my taste. He often asked the class questions about obscure political events from way before we were born and would expect us to know the answer, and wouldn't move on until someone said the right answer, so there was a lot of silence.
Entire grade consisted of 4 tests so if you're not a good tester take a different prof. I always went to class but rarely took notes and I never read the textbook readings and still got a B in the class. I'm sure if you read and took notes it would be an easy A.
Show up and take notes. Do the readings if you want an A
I honestly did love Prof. Nisley, but I would not recommend his class. He is a really good teacher, but your grade consists of 4, 40 question, tests. I barely went to any of the lectures which was probably the root of my grade in the class. If you're a good test taker then the class is for you, if not then find a different prof.
very easy class. consists of 4 test and a syllabus quiz. All he does is lecture from powerpoints, and he uploads them to D2L. tests are online on D2L. attendence isnt required but it is helpful to be there
Class is based on 4 tests (at-home tests) and is 100% lecture. I attended all lectures, took detailed notes, and read each chapter of book to get an A. Test questions come from in-class chats, current events, notes, and textbook. Super chill professor, very knowledgeable, actually a very interesting class.
Only grades are 4 40-question tests, some have which have subjective or unclear questions. Overall an easy class, but it wasn't anything special.
I recommend going to class even though it is not mandatory. I would have gotten a better grade if I did not stop going. You are graded on 4 exams. His lectures were not too bad and he was caring. I forgot the test was due in the AM and not PM and I explained and he reopened it for me. Definitely cares about his students. (Dont recommend forgetting)
I took an 8-week summer course with him and found him well respected. Despite a 3 hour class, I learned more in his lectures than any other class before and always felt engaged. We were given 3 tests that were 50 multiple choice with a couple bonus questions, each over 3-4 units. I would rate him as a true independent leaning left on some issues.
This class is pretty much basic. You will learn then take a test. Nothing complicated. Just follow what he says. I took this class over the summer. It would have been great if he around grades because I would have at least passed with a B. Tests are all multiple choices and very easy questions but they are so easy you be overthinking.
Dr. Nisley is a great professor. He gives concise lectures, explains the material effectively, and thoroughly. There is no homework, which is great on one end, but it also means that you must do well on the tests. He made me excited about politics, and the political process. Would 100% take his class again.
One of my favorite professors. I go out of my way to register for his classes
his class is super easy and super interesting. he is a great professor who is very engaged with the class and encourages participation (although it does not affect your grade if you come to class or not). grades are based on a few tests, no homework or quizzes or projects. honestly just going to his lectures you should make an A.
Dr.Nisley has been one of the best professors I have had so far. His teaching methods are very interesting and he keeps you engaged. We have five tests that define your whole grade, so there are no extra assignments. As long as you read the week's chapter before class, and pay attention to the lectures you will do good.
I was actually excited and took it upon myself to get out of bed for this professor. Personable, funny, engaging. No stress, just learning. Quite a rare thing to find yourself actually excited about going to class
If you prepare and read the textbook its an easy A+! Participation is key especially when during presentation time. Presentations are easy, just talk about an article that YOU pick and are available to you at the beginning of the semester on a certain day.
Professor Nisley was great. Attendance was not mandatory and we were only graded on four unit exams. No final exam and no lockdown browser. Powerpoints are very useful to study for the test, the majority of test material is on the lecture powerpoints. Although attendance is not mandatory, I highly recommend consistently going to class. TAKE HIM! :)
He's a great professor and you can really tell that he is passionate about what he does. He definitely enjoys having others get involved in the lectures during class, and all of his test questions are from the lectures or textbook, so use it to your advantage!
While he is good during lectures and the tests are fairly easy to pass, he assigns two books at the end of the semester that are fairly boring reads and only gives you about a week or two to read both of them, and theyre the only thing on the final with it being two essay questions.
LOVED his class, he was so engaging with lectures and made political science fun! The 3 tests were the only grades, and he worked very hard to make sure you were prepared for each one. No lockdown browser, and was very easy to talk to and get feedback from. One of my favorite professors to date, I will always recommend him! 10/10
Overall enjoyed this class and Professor Nisley. Your grade is made up of 5 exam grades with the final being on 2 books he gives you about a month to read. Very caring and wise professor, would take again.
POLS3350 - The class is boring but Nisley tries his best. Very lecture heavy with 5 tests and a final book review essay. Lecture heavy class - Do not take if you are bad at test taking. There is a lot of info but he does his best to break it down. I studied A LOT for tests, and had to go to class or I would not have down well. Overall a good class.
Dr. Nisley's class is engaging and fun. While the 4 tests are the only grades, going to lectures and using the textbook can help you succeed. I found unstuck study a great study tool alongside the course material.
3 exams, one presentation, and one questioning to someone else's presentation is all there is. Attendance is graded but you're only allowed to miss two classes or he will deduct 5 points off of your final grade.Textbook is mandatory!! That's where every class discussion stems from. Not a hard class but participation is REQUIRED!!!!!
