THe professor is a very polite and kind man. Sometimes his explanations are not very clear, but he aslways gives what is needed to know on the quiz or exam. Preparations for exam and quizes are completely the same as quizes and exams themselves. Eazy A if you have a good memory:)
He is a very polite and kind prof. hw, 4 quezes, 2 midterms and Final. He didn't let us use calculator for quizes and midterms. if u don't know basic math, it'll b hard. I was ok w/o calculator. His tests are a lot of problems, but not hard. if u come to class and study preparation for tests, you are all set.
Not a fan of multiple choice exams at the Master's level but otherwise he made the textbook much easier to comprehend when going through the chapters
Totally agree with comment from classmate, IMO - MC exam is not suitable for anything that focuses on the big picture (like Int Eco) But the prof was nice and open for feedbacks - format for the final was changed back to short answers. He also recommended an excellent book to accompany the class material. Def. recommended.
one of the more useless classes that i have taken. teacher tries hard but adheres to the book too tightly. tests were relatively easy because he told the class what to study.
If you're ECO major, you might want to pass, the material covered is not difficult, you might walk out without getting much. But if you're other majors, you will find his class quite easy to understand. A very polite gentleman who is dedicated and tries his best. I also agree that the recommended readings were useful.
He tries to cover all chapters of the thick text book. His pace of teaching is too fast that most of students cannot understand the materials. In addition to the textbook and work book, there are two more books that you have to read and write book reports for every class.
He is a very nice professor who tries his best. His tests are not that hard. The only hard thing about this class is that exams cover many chapters (over 7 chapters per exam); the final is cumulative (around 17 chapters) and they are 40% mid and 50 final. you need to spend a lot of time studying to get a good grade
As other guys said, he covered all chapter really fast, but tests were not painful at all. You had to read additional book and write a report that was not graded and not a big deal. The only problem is that you should teach yourself. Good luck.
There were 2 additional reading books which are good but you need to complete a report weekly, plus the text book and workbook; too much reading material. For a student who is taking 3 classes or more I don’t recommend it because you will not have time for the other subjects. He expects too much from you but nice guy always available for you.
It's an interesting class, but the prof. writes on the board directly from his notes and cannot explain the lecture clearly. He just reads his notes&rushes the material. If you want to get a good grade you are on your own, study ahead, read the chapters and do the questions from the practice book. 2midterms and cumulative final. It's a lot of material.
Professor cannot teach and expects you to basically memorize literally 1000 questions from assigned workbook. final is 50 out of those 1000 questions and cumulative(20chapters). Learned absolutely nothing. what a waste of time & money
Only gave students with perfect exams As 3-6 out of 61 got an A or A-. Curves everyone down.
Econometrics is not an easy class,You need to practice a lot to understand the material. Prof. Piskula gives a practice exam which is very helpful. Explains all the necessary material well.
He is a very monotone professor. He goes over a ton of material! 20 chapters. He is a nice guy. He moves very quickly. Overall didn't get a good grasp on much because he moved too quickly, he just isn't great at teaching the stuff, he is real smart though. Go over the chapters before his lectures, do the practice problems and you should be fine.
This class is not very hard. Attend the class and give prepare for the midterm and final, you will be fine. Although the lecture is boring, you can learn something from him.
Brush up on Stats101 because that will take up a huge chunk of the course and tests. You might get thrown off because he won't really re-teach you everything that he thinks you should've learned already. HW due every class. You better be prepared to memorize formulas. No calculators during exams. If you want to get a good grade, memorize formulas!
Excellent Professor. The subject content is tough, so prepare a bit beforehand and you will be fine. He takes a lot of effort in helping you 'up' your grade by giving quizzes and easy assignments. Couldn't have asked for a better professor to explain the concepts. He gives a lot of weight (relative to other professors) to participation.
You have to brush up on your stat skills. He will not re-teach you what you should've learned from stats 101. Do not get frustrated with him because of this. This is a level 4000 course. You can't use calculators for exams but the numbers are relatively easy. He wants you to really memorize and understand stat concepts and formulas.
Can only catch up on what he's talking if you know the basics from before. Lose him once, you lose him the entire semester.
This is a 4000 level class. If you complain about him not re-teaching you the basics of statistics, you probably should re-take stats 101 and try to actually pay attention. This course boils down to mastering Regression Analysis. Again, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE SOLID STAT SKILLS! You will get frustrated. Other than that, all is fair.
The materials seem difficult; however, if you really pay attention and study, you will understand. Prof. Piskula is a great professor. Strong Recommended.
Excellent professor. Extremely underrated, because he teaches a tough subject. Prepare well, and you will have a great time!
He is a nice prof. Tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. He tries to cover everything in the textbook. Don't get frutrated when you dont get what hes talking about, because the midterm and final are a lot easier than what he teaches. Just do the practice midterm and final you will be fine. They are nearly identical to the test. Study!
I believe he is the nicest professor at Baruch but lectures are so confusing. He doesnt give any example in the class. Only focuses on conceptual part of econometric which doesnt help to understand without the numbers. Take him if you just want to keep your GPA high but dont expect to learn anything.
He has the knowledge but does not know how to clarify it! He is not a good teacher!
lectures will put you to sleep tests will make you to lose sleep
Very nice professor but classes are confusing. You are expected to do most of the work on your own. Unfortunately the book is not as good either. Tests, on the other hand are no surprise as review tests are similar to the actual ones. If you try you can get a good grade. To the professor I would suggest to give more in class calculation examples.
worst professor ever. his class is pure memorization, feed him back his word and move on. Ecolab is easy just fail to get the right answer. quizzes are easy just memorize like a monkey everything, use this: write down countless time the formulas until you make no mistakes. he wants participation, if he feel you do not deserve A he will give you B-.
Class is not going to be easy. You definitely need to put in a lot of effort if you want an A, but it's doable. Prof is not the best at explaining concepts in class but he's very nice and available outside of class if you need extra help. Quizzes and a midterm but he always gives a practice one before which is almost identical to the actual one.
I would reiterate what most people have said. We have a quiz every two weeks which was good because it kept me up to date on whatever we were doing. Midterm and final are very similar to the review, but he will throw a big surprise on the finals, completely threw me off. Overall I thought he was a great guy and seemed to really care about us.
Econometrics is not an easy class especially if you are not good at mathematics You need to practice a lot to understand the material. Prof. Piskula gives a practice exam which is very helpful. Explains all the necessary material well. this is class was easy for me since I'm taking math as a minor. if you do all the work believe me you will pass
It's not a hard class, but he makes it hard to understand, textbook is even worst. Quizzes and midterm are very similar to practice ones; final was hard, brought my grade down. He doesn't explain what he asks on tests to avoid too many A's. Google and youtube are your saviors; they were mine. But he is definitely much better than most other prof!
he is a medium professor. He does not explain things very well...... his midterm is fair but his final is super hard. Do not expect to be an easy A, but you can put some efforts to get B or B plus. Not too bad professor! but i will not recommend him so much!
He's an intellectual prof. but he doesn't really know how to explain himself. He puts every effort into helping students. HWs will help you directly with your tests. Practice/sample tests are all you need to focus on but expect a question or two from outside them. If you want to learn the subject, you need to read textbooks and ask him questions.
The test is heavy on memorization,so I only remember formulas but dont know wht is going on. He says u don't need to know just remember. He explains easy thinges like conditional probability worksheet for an hour and then skips the whole explanation of how to use z score, only describes FEATURES of concept. Useless hw,no flexibility
Disregard the textbook- it's too wordy and half of it isn't covered in the course. Keep up with MEL and HW he assigns. Keep up with the excel project and actually absorb that. he gives identical review sheets for midterm and final. take those sheets to the tutoring center and do it with them and then memorize. You'll b more than fine if you do this
He's the best professor I've ever had at Baruch. He cares so much about his students! Like What professor comes on Sunday when there's no class to help you out with your work?! I dropped this class last semester took it with him an got an A. STUDYING IS THE KEY, GO OVER THE PRACTICE/FINAL and MEMORIZE you'll be fine.
You cannot listen to his classes. Very Very boring. I've learnt absolutely nothing from this class. Group project gives you a perspective into what the class is about but the groups are too big so you'll not have a chance to do a lot of work. Lot's of home works. Tests aren't too bad. Just skip this if you are in it to learn something.
He really cares about the students. The exam questions are very similar to what he goes over in class. You need to do the readings and homework every week since those go into your final grade. He grades for attendance and participation too. The material is not difficult but there is a lot to cover and if you fall behind, it's hard to catch up.
I really like this professor, his class very helpful to understand the bond market. It helped me a lot for my new job. Not hard if you keep doing your homework and go to the class.
3quizzes, 1 lowest grade will be dropped, hw&excell every week, midterm&final very similar to practice ones, plenty of office hours, its a shame to not get at least a B in his class. very much recommend, but not an easy subject or don't miss the important excel work because it doesn't end till the end of the semester and read the article)
I am a senior and this is the most hw i've ever received. The class is once a week, and he assigns a list of at least 7 items that is due the following week that you have to both submit online on pearson and different assignments you email him. You also have to read complicated chapters. If you have a full class load like me, don't take this class.
Agree with the below poster. Long list of homework thats due weekly and no late credit. Quiz every other week thats really like a test - ex. need to memorize 16 formulas for 1 quiz question. All fill in blank with no calculator. Midterm and final. Has to realize we take other classes besides his. Regretting I took this required course with him.
Partial credit? not in this class. Had a question with 6 parts. got 5/6 correct and he marked the entire problem wrong. TOUGH grader. I'm a senior and this is the MOST homework ive ever received, so i also agree with the person below me. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
had a midterm Friday and a project and loads of homework due Saturday. A mandatory project thats required to pass the course. I just don't understand. Don't take him unless you aren't taking any other courses
Literally the most inconsiderate and awful professor ever. If you get 4/5 parts of a homework question right, he marks the ENTIRE QUESTION WRONG. And there's SO MUCH homework thats all super obscure and hard to do and he doesnt even do a good job at reviewing it. Totally overwhelming class with an underwhelming professor.
There are a lot of terrible professors at Baruch. But this guy takes the cake. He really cannot teach. He gives no leniency with memorization heavy quizzes, and wants you to do 5 pages worth of homework every week. Never met a professor so clueless. And he's planning to run for the Board of Education, which is hilarious.
Nice guy, not the greatest lecturer (tends to confuse people) but this topic isn't easy to explain. His tests are very similar to the review sheets so no surprises there. He shows you exactly how to do excel projects in class. There are a few assignments due every week so you have to keep track. Not as bad as everyone says.
Avoid at any cost! This class will ruin your GPA. Very tough grader professor. He is very confusing. If you take his class, be ready to spend 24/7 doing the homeworks and reading the textbook.
Hall of Famer for the worst professor of all time. Gives loads of assignment every week. Learn how to copy and paste your excel assignments with fancy methods and you will just find a little peace. He thinks every student is a microsoft computer, he makes you do all the excel regression by hand.
This is one of the best and kindest professor I have ever seen in Baruch. I have very much enjoyed the class. I don't know why everyone said very bad things about him. After every class he emails and gives suggested readings and if you don'd do those yes the class will be very confusing to you. He gives homework every weak but solves them in class.
Be prepared to do nothing but hw and still be lost in class. He is inconsiderate of students time. He assigns hw through my econ lab with a certain level to reach (high 90's) and if you don't hit the level then all your work is for nothing. The professor is clueless on how to teach. Students come to learn not be pounded by a heavy workload. Avoid..
If you're a student who doesn't enjoy self-studying, please avoid this professor. He will make you read multiple chapters a week and assign you hours of homework every week. His lectures are pretty much useless as he speeds through them just for the sake of covering the material, rather than making sure the students are comprehending the material.
Do you enjoy having awful slides prepared by the book publisher speed read to you? Do you enjoy absolutely useless HW that tests whether or not you can transform a formula rather than demonstrate working knowledge of the subject matter? How about having more assigned HW than three other GRAD classes combined. Don't miss ECO9723 with Piskula!
I don usually rate professors but this professor gives me a headache. He's a nice gentleman but he doesn't know how to teach at all. Just really bad test and homework arrangement. Regardless of the grade, you won't learn anything from his class.
He is the worst professor known to man kind. Expects you to understand coding with python and R and doesn't attempt to teach it. Gives a rocket science paper and expects you to use coding on it as well. Avoid at all costs
Hands down worst instructor I've ever had. Didn't learn a thing and he assigns work like his class is a full time job. Wake up! Most grad students work full time and take atleast 1 other class. Shame on him honestly for putting students through such mental suffering especially during a pandemic. Take this class and I promise you won't have a life.
Lectures are very boring, reads straight from the publisher's PowerPoints. Assigns a lot of reading every week and expects you to speed through it. Grade is composed of homework, 2 midterms (1 dropped) 1 final paper (involves coding but he doesn't bother to teach it), and 1 final exam. All the tests had a coding portion but again, doesn't teach it.
I never rate professors, but this class was ridiculous. There was an insane amount of homework, sometimes up to 10 hours a week early on, tests with too many questions given the time limit, and a final paper on top of all. The professor is a very nice man, but his lectures consist of him purely reading off textbook slides.
I see that there's been a myriad of negative things said about this professor & instead of bashing everyone's head for sharing their personal experience on this medium, we must be respectful of others' opinions.. I happen to be one of fortunate students who rather luxuriated in being part of this class. Here's to the next one! Thank you, professor.
The material is hard, he can be dry at times. Text is hard to digest but his slides are incomprehensible without reading. He's fair, he's straightforward with the grading, he's responsive to emails, and patient with repetitive questions. The final paper is a doozy so just get something you can find data on. Don't try to reinvent the wheel.
The material for this class is hard, but professor Piskula is very patient with students and will always try to answer questions as best he can. He gives 2 midterms (the lower of which is dropped) a final, a paper, and a TON of homework. If you actually do the work, you most likely will not fail.
He is strict but good. Lots of Hws but he do care about the students. Once he knows you are attentive and serious about studies, he will make it a point to help and support you
Prof.Piskula is giving a lot of assignments, but for the R and python parts, he is showing us step-by-step how to do it. As well as his exams, his exams are not that hard if you do each assignment carefully. I think he is a very nice professor.
Classes follow formulas in ppt, too much to cover in a semester. There is little applicability of concepts, the use of samples would help more, even if pre-recorded and available on the web. Too much HW 100+ combined probls weekly which you end copying answers from web, not time left for learning doing exercises at a slow pace.Nice final paper.
Professor Piskula gives a lot of hw but he always curves and he is very nice person that you can ask for advice He has a great work ethics and he is very knowledgable
The professor has accent, so very difficult to understand for international students. He is too theoretical in teaching and assumes everyone sitting next to him are already masters of stats. Simple concepts of probability, he tries to make them complex by only talking in jargons language. So many assigments, but no support.
I have no idea what is going on in this class. It gives me nightmares (seriously, I can't sleep). The fact that we need to memorize formulas is insane and unrealistic. In what situation would we need to use these formulas and not have internet access to look up the formulas or plug them into excel? And, too much homework to even learn concepts.
This professor is such a nice person! I have a newborn and cannot keep up with the time it takes to read two chapters a week of math text and do 3-to 4 homework assignments per week without sleep. Remember, after reading math, you have to spend the same amount of time practicing it's not a one-and-done situation.
The homework is overwhelming and a lot of the concepts are difficult to grasp. The midterm and final are intense with not enough time. The curve is generous at the end of the semester.
It's already two weeks into the course, and the professor is already giving a ridiculous amount of work, even though he mentioned that he understands that most people are working full-time or attending other courses. In addition, he expects everyone to know the formulas and how to solve them when there are clearly people new to whole math concept.
He's a good professor, but way too theoretical. The format of the course should be geared towards application. His final was really theoretical and hard. Everything else seemed easy, BCS he gave you the answers to homework. Curve was generous, and he tried to be helpful. It's more of a course design flaw, than an issue with him. Too much work tho!
Yes, this class is very challenging and quite rigorous. The quantity of work required feels overwhelming at times. There are assignments where you ask yourself "why am I doing this?" That said, there is a method to the madness. If you can keep pace, you'll have these "eureka!" moments where it all comes together and it's cool when that happens.
He doesn't care about whether students learn or not, he cares only about HW. A lot of HW in a limited time will make you overwhelmed and care about your grade more than to learn. He assumes that all students know everything about the course although it is preliminary. He is available to answer questions but you will not learn from him.
The professor is outstanding and committed to student success. Homework is manageable with solutions on Brightspace, and in-class demos make it easy to follow. Past exams are provided for study, and grades are curved when necessary. The math is simple, and with effort as expected in a master's program, you'll do well in the class.
This professor is the worst I've ever had. He knows nothing about pedagogy. If you ask him questions in class, he either doesn't answer what you're asking, doesn't know the answer, or simply doesn't answer it. He is very inaccessible outside of class and doesn't care when you bring up concerns. He joked about our concerns... report him, I did.
It would have been beneficial if he had indicated in the first class this course is self-taught. While he is well-intentioned, he compresses too much into a semester, such that it is unclear to the student what material is important. Moreover, he covered 2 chapters per class which is excessive and too rushed. It shortchanged the learning process.
What an awful experience. The workload for this class is exceptionally high considering Zicklin is a school for working professionals, many of which are pursuing degrees while working full time. The class methodology is not appropriate. Professor asks if ppl understood the content, nobody answers, and then he says 'good enough'. He doesn't care.
A lot of people thinks that he gives too much homework, but I put in the effort and I was able to finish almost each homework 2 weeks earlier. So if you have the heart to learn, he's good.
Too much homework. Difficult material. Too much theory and zero application. No time to practice. So much homework it's laughable. Good luck if you have a job. Please go to a different class. I am writing this mid assignment because people need to know. DO NOT take this class. Go somewhere else and get the pre-req. He is the only professor.
Prof Piskula knows his subject and I recommend you read the chapters prior to class. This class is hard not because of the math but rather understanding the subject itself. He knows that and even in the beginning of the class will tell you to just try. HW is 3 to 6 hours to do but he gives most answers so consider that with time/course load.
Structure poorly organized, too much contents condensed in one semester. LectureS almost useless, since he only reads ppt slides, which are snapshots from textbook publishers Cannot really answer thoughtful or tough questions, only easy and basic ones. Way too much homework, especially if you are taking other courses or working at the same time
If you have premium knowledge of this course, you can take it, but be prepared for lots of homework. If you don't have much knowledge of this course, strongly recommend you choose other available professors.
A nice person, and tries to be helpful, do curves, but to be honest, doesn't make him a recommended professor. Make easy things complicated, struggle to identify key points, and lack the ability to explain concepts in a clear and accessible way. People good at different things, teaching doesn't seem to be his strong suit.
Tests are very similar to practice tests and HWs. Need to reread concepts outside of class. He does not ground the topics we learn to reality. During a lecture, you can very quickly get lost in all the numbers and variables. Overall, this is a required course and I believe he is the only professor that teaches it, so good luck!
You should take any class with Professor Piskula. What sets him apart is how kind and supportive he is. His office hours are invaluable - he's patient, understanding, and genuinely invested in helping students succeed. He's not just a great professor, but a great person.
