Along with a confusing accent, he doesn't make good lesson plans and doesn't really go the extra distance to make sure the sstudents know the material. Makes unrealistic demands for homework and isn't too helpful when you have questions.
If you want an easy A, this class is ABSOLUTELLY NOT for you. He is a very good instructor if you are up to a CHALLENGE. While his classes are very hard, he always seek ways of helping his students succeed, like extra credits. A lot of homework, however.
LOTS of homework, LONG and HARD tests. However, he's a really nice guy and willing to compromise with students on homework due dates, and even some take home tests. Do NOT take him if you think you'll get an easy passing grade.
cant understand him has a thick accent

Nice guy but very difficult. Gives lots of homework but is helpful. Not a class to take if wanting easy A.
Math is a difficult subject for me and after 25 years of since my last math class, this has been a good class, and the teacher has been a very good instructor, the only draw back is an accent, but it is easy to get used to and understand. The instructor has a great sense of humor.
Thick accent, copies the notes from text to board, doesn't give examples nor does he explain the material. Hard to approach. Tests and HW overwhelming because of lack of explanation. 3 people were left in class at end of semester and everyone had been serious about this class.
Thick accent. Hard to understand. Unwilling to compromise. Doens't explain things very well. I wouldn't choose to have him for any other classes.
Has high expectations, but is willing to go out of his way to help students meet them. It is a tough class, but not unfairly so. Occasionally he cracked an unexpected, surprisingly funny joke. He does seem to call on the women in the class more often than the men.

An obvious college professor (very hard!) Expects a lot out of you, which is good, is very helpful if you are willing to ask. Assigns a lot of homework, sometimes too much. This class in itself is a full work load. Has accent, but easy to get used to. 30 people sign up 4 class & it ends w/10.haha!
I like his class. He's very knowledgeable in math materials overall; gives a lot of homework but only for students's own good. Also giving you many extra credit opportunities through homework presentation. Exams are not that heavy. He can be funny sometimes.
Thomas is one of the smartest professors at ARC. His IQ is in the 150 range. I am not joking. He really knows his math. He teaches some of the most difficult classes at ARC. He is not easy though. Gives a lot of homework. All math majors need to take him. Really likes to call on girls.
Rude guy! Did not like his teaching or grading!
is a very difficult teacher. can hardly understand what he says or writes on the board. will not compromise at all. expects everyone to know how to use the shortcuts with out even teaching them first.
Does not do much teaching, simply copies/paste from the textbook to white board. Extreme homework workload (average of 4+ hours/night for MTWTh class), tough, tough grading policies with no flexibility.
Wow, worst teacher ever! Doesn't know how to explain things very well, only goes by the definitions in the book. He is rude and dismissive if someone has a question, and he was never available for extra help. The homework is repetitive and TOO LONG. Definitely avoid at all costs. Unless you kiss up, he won't like you.
Yes he gives a lot of homework which takes about 3+hrs, but ther are lot's of extra credit which helps a lot if you start doing it from the begining of the semmester even if you don't need it right away. Willing to help if you go to his office hours. If you take him don't slack off, othervise tings will get difficult fast.

first off, the class is very boring...very boring. but its good that there's a lot of homework, otherwise wouldn't remember anything for the tests. thick african accent. if you can get past that, its not that tough. says "isn't it?" a lot
He may may be hard but he is a great teacher...
knows his math, but doesn't really know how to teach it in a helpful way. good luck getting understandable answers to your questions. better for a fall class than a summer one.
Very smart guy but not the best teacher. He knows math well, but doesnt teach it in the best way. I got through the class by reading the text A LOT! His lectures did not help at all. I got a good grade...but had to put in a ton of effort for it. Not good to have your 1st semester in college!
Be on the lookout for his repetitive funny phrases, like "Isn't it"? and "I thought you were my friend".Knows his stuff, but the class moves along dreadfully fast.He has little patience for those who fall behind,or don't understand a concept.Explains concepts one way, and one way only. His THICK accent makes comprehension difficult at times.
Lectures were unclear, almost everyone in my class was failing after the first month. Worst math teacher I've ever had.
He's tough, and very smart. He has a great personality, and he is willing to help during his office hours. If you're not willing to do your homework or study hard for his class, you should drop it.
If you need to pass stats, I would not would look elsewhere. He is extremely difficult to understand, thick accent, not clear on answering questions and offers very little time to get anything done. Consider yourself warned! And oh, I told you so.
knows math but is hard to understand. some terminology is confusing and his accent can be confusig
let me tell you...no help, discouraging, rude, would not give a break. very frustrating, test were very hard and hard to understand.has a nice personality but has bad teaching skills and no empathy or heart when it comes to difficult times or questions. would not recommend unless you are incredably a genius
took his course as a refresher since I hadn't done math in 5 yrs. very friendly but expects a lot from you. fond of catchphrases and has a thick african accents. Will not let you live down that you don't have the metric sys. down. I passed without a prob but a lot of people didn't. Be willing to do lots of homework every night and over breaks!
Nice guy, very determined to help his students succeed but his lectures are quite confusing, TONS OF HOMEWORK!..I'm not sure if its his teachings or my math skills, I ended up dropping the summer class anyways. If you want to take him, I suggest you not take it during the summer time otherwise you will fail.
Nice guy but very intense course! I took a first 6 week class during summer school and wouldnt advise it. All of his homework is submitted online via math lab which is kind of a pain but other than that he was a pretty good professor!
He was a really nice professor he was always helpful. There was a lot of homework online but it wasnt as bad it was good practice. He has a strong accent but not as bad where you cant understand a word he is saying but its ok. I got a B in that class.
Good teacher, very helpfull, have to do a lot of homework. If taking his class I would recomend doing chapter review, he uses many review exersises on the test. If you are willing to work hard in his class you will do great in his class.
The kindest man you will ever meet. It requires a great deal of work but, he works harder than anyone. You must put your time in. 5 tests, pop quizzes, comprehensive final worth 25% of total grade, 2/3 homework online 1/3 paper & pencil. He goes out of his way to help his students.
Very nice person. Always willing to help and wants his students to succeed. 3+ hours of homework a night & grueling exams, but work hard and you will do fine. He can be funny at times too. All-in-all, a great college learning experience.
I can't stand him. I find him very annoying and he creeps me out!!!!!!
horrible teacher.i dont know how he can be a teacher, many people get either a C,D or F.his thick accent makes it hard2undrstand him,"ISN'T IT?"he expects2do 3 sections a day so dont bother askin him a question about somethin u dont understand cuz he will get frustrated n wont answer ur question.i had2drop him.i took kinoshita, shes a great teacher.
Not a good teacher. Gives way too much work and is unsympathetic if you have a life outside of school. Expects your life to revolve around his class!
He covers the material over and over and over. I have no idea how people fail his class. He even dummies down simple arithmetic for the slow. Yes, he has a bit of an accent, but is easy to understand. Yes, he expects you to do some homework. Some of it is extra credit...do it! This is college, kids!
I had Math 120 with him 2 semesters ago He's good at explaining the matieral I did absolutely fine on homework-and there was a lot of homework but on the exams most of us in the class got Ds or Fs, I ended up dropping after the 1st half of the semester Expect a quiz at least every other class if you take him He'd be ok 4 u if ur really good at math
If you want to pass stats, don't take this teacher! Copies textbook onto the board, tests are impossible, and likes to give quizzes after class time is over as punishment for boredom (from copying down textbook from board). Should NOT be in the teaching profession - no patience for questions either. If you can, take Deckert, he's great.
He is a really nice guy but not on tests. He took points off my test for silly things like the square root sign not being quite long enough and for not erasing some numbers. Very tedious work, but be careful, he takes points off pop quizzes and exams for trivial things. Show all your work, leaving out one tiny number will lower your grade.
this guy changes his agenda just about every day. He doesn't know how to plan ahead, so you end up doing too much work toward the end of the semester. I took the class, because it said it wasn't online, but you do most of the work online.
Late to class everyday. Took breaks away. Let class out late. No patience to answer students' questions. No final exam review day. Didn't keep control over the class. Didn't follow his own rules. He doesn't curve grades. Worst online program ever. Answers must be exact or else it is marked wrong.
Very confusing.
No curves, but a very tiny bit of extra credit. All homework and some quizzes were online, which I liked, but the website we used was so slow/stupid. He doesn't explain things well at all, and he has a lot of pop quizzes. He uses a lot of questions from the book in his tests. Not an easy teacher, but it is possible to pass.
he is the worst math teacher EVER. can't understand anything!!! pop quizes everyother class. just over all horrble teacher should even be teaching.
I took his class my first semester and ended up transferring out in the middle when I still had an F, along with more than half the class. He does to much in to little a time. If he just took his time and slowed down it would be fine. His excuse for speeding us up is that he was going to get fired for being a chapter behind. Yeah right.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take his class. You will regret it.
Very difficult class! Dr. Rutaganira is very intelligent and he expects a lot of his students, you will need to work hard in the class. On the plus side he does lighten up towards the end of the semester. The online homework software is very time consuming and there were a number of times when it was incorrect and/or ambiguous. The tests and quizze
MR. RUTA IS AWESOME!!! HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL! IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS JUST GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. THERE'S A LOT OF HOMEWORK, BUT IF YOU COMPLETE IT, YOU'RE GOING TO DO GREAT ON THE TESTS AND GREAT IN THE CLASS! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASS!
Pretty nice guy. He gives lots of homework, and insisted on doing every section of the book, even when we fell more and more behind. Instead of explaining concepts, he did example problems from the book. Some of the other students seemed to get it. I didn't. I dropped the class 6 weeks in, but I hate math in the first place.
He is good teacher, Funny some times,I recommend him!!!
he was very easy and easy to follow.
I found easy, heavy accent, but helpful. I ended up help other students with his class. Don't take him if you want light work cause he hands out a lot of homework.
If you want to pass this class then DONT CHOOSE HIM!He doesn't teach right! We will have a test of 2 chapters on Wednesday but the teacher didn't even teach the whole things! What is the different between home school and have a teacher? It's worthless to go to his class. All he did just copied the same thing from the book and wasted time.
NO! NO! NO! This instructor teaches directly from the book and his notes are found word for word in the text, he has very little ability to break down the text so that you can understand the subject. Really does not seem to care if you pass or fail. Is not student oriented, seems he just needs the job.
helpa me guys...be cautious
Heavy African accent, difficult to understand. Taught straight from the book, and rarely had one-on-one contact with students who needed help. Lots of homework from book, and in MyMathLab(online). Do not recommend.
Awful class. His notes were seriously straight from the book; I could've taught that to myself. He assigns online homework, on-paper homework, online quizzes, and has pop-quizzes ALL the time so don't miss class! We would fall behind and then play "catch-up" and not thoroughly go through some sections. Awfulawfulawful.
good professor
Great Teacher. If you pay attention you'll understand him really welll
He teaches straight from the book. He doesn't explain problems very well. I didn't like this class at all. I'm really good at math and had already taken pre-cal and calculus before. Even with that, this I still struggled to keep a C. We started out with 30 people in the classes and ended with 8. If you have the choice, don't take him.
Stay away from this class! I have received good grades my entire life until this class. Worst teacher I've ever had. He even tells the class he tries to trick us. The whole class hates him. Even the smartest people in our class cannot get even a c on tests. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get an A. Highly unlikely you will receive a B or c
He really is as awful as it seems.Inconsiderate, unfair, and his "popup" quizzes kill you!i took this class with him in the summer and i had never been so stressed out and exhausted from sleep deprivation and so much work.Just consider yourself warned,if you take his class, you will not have a life for that given time period.im so glad to be done!
Has an accent, but still a good professor. Tests are not hard if you take time to learn the concepts. Took this class during summer session, which is probably the main factor why it was harder since we only met once a week. Offered a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I took this class during summer. Hard to understand.Gives pop quizzes and clash a lot of chapters together. PLus, you don't necessarily need the text because you have to do online hw and so you can buy an access # and use the text book from online. Also, all notes are directly from the text which he has it all memorized. GOOD LUCK!
I decided to take his pre-algebra in fears of not being prepared for algerba one, thinking easy A..WRONG!!! He teaches straight from the book, tends to not be very clear on assignments, not good at explaining the material. I'm currently failing, because he sucks as a teacher. DO NOT CHOOSE HIM AS A TEACHER, unless you WANT to fail.
Has a thick accent that takes a while to get used to. Reads straight from book and assigns a lot of homework, a full 1/3 of the problems in the book. Test questions are harder than quizzes/anything covered in class; I think he chooses the hardest problem from the book. If you take this class teach the material to yourself.
He is a teacher who copies definitions from the book then reviews the easiest questions out of it. If he is running behind he will not assist questions who have questions. On one test 7 people passed out of 35 taking the test. Test questions are not in homework, and never reviewed in class.
He's an alright teacher, but plan on hard tests. He tells you to study from the quizzes but really study from lecture notes because you will miss questions if you only study from quizzes. He does have accent but pretty easy to understand. Assigns A LOT of HW.
TERRIBLE!! I've taken this class in high school so I thought this class would be pretty easy. Boy was I wrong! He doesn't answer homework questions properly and he isn't easily understood. Only 3 people have an A so I highly recommend not taking his class if you want an A. He also gives out A TON of homework.
Assigns a lot of homework, but gives extra credit for doing more than the required material. Doesn't have much time to answer questions in class, but if you take the time to drop by during his office hours, he'll answer any problem step by step AND give you participation.
e sucks.. cant understand him... unwilling to work with you on his timeline of when the course work should be done.. 3 sections a day??? he expects you to live breathe sleep and eat math..
Warning! Do not take this class for summer. Three hours for class (4 day/week)and freakin 5-6 hours of homework! On tests and quizzes, you must show all work for every problem and points are deducted for ANYTHING wrong. He has a heavy accent, difficult to understand. Goes strictly by the book (only one student had).
one of the worst teachers ive ever had. his accent is thick, but not difficult to understand. he reads word for word from the book and does easy example problems. doesnt xplain multiple ways of doing something, and its just not a well structured class. he also requires online hw, so thats an extra $80.
This guy was AWFUL. I got an A, but that's only b/c I learned early on not to pay attention to what he said in lecture b/c he just confuses ppl. The textbook is your only hope. He gets very agitated when there is a student who needs an alternate example for a problem. His quizzes are unclear and he couldnt stick to the syllabus. Two thumbs down.
Mr. Ruta is not simple nor cheap. He gives his student what they work for. He has no control over your grades.
If you are looking for an easy grade with no work than not your guy. If you actually want to learn something, great teacher and personable. Had a full and complete command of the material. Was thorough. Hard to imagine how someone who showed up to class, paid attention, and actually tried to do HW couldn't pass. Do the the extra credit homework
If you cannot read mathematics at a glance, this is not your guy. If you do not want a lot of homework, look for another professor. He knows his stuff. A great professor.
Mr. Ruta is a good professor. He is willing to help. Caution: A hybrid class is not for those who prefers play before work. If you are not a mathematician please consider a traditional class. Thumbs up professor Ruta. For me he is one of the best professors.
Professor Ruta is a sweet heart. He made statistics bearable only and only if you show interest in what he is saying. If you are anticipating an easy A am sorry. He is not that cheap. Again if long formulas are not your way of life, think again and again before sitting in his class. I enjoyed his class.
If you suffer from a disease called laziness please do not attempt to be in Mr. Ruta's class. He will give you a wake up call.
He assigns too much HW. I had no problem with the HW tho, I'm a student and expect to learn and be worked. The first month went by slow while he waited for everyone to get books. by the time he realized we were behind he was rushed thru material, w/o any time to explain material in depth for those confused, class average grades were extremely LOW!
If you are lazy and don't want to learn DO NOT take this class. If you are ready to learn trig and know it like the back of your hand then by all means, take this class. Be prepared to spend hours EVERY SINGLE DAY on homework and to STUDY VERY HARD for exams. You will be smarter for your efforts.
Prof. Ruta is such a sweetheart! Be ready to work really hard in his class, though. He starts off very strict but after he gets to know the class you can talk him into giving you a page of notes for tests.
Professor Ruta is so sweet!!! If you come to class regularly, pay attention to his lectures, and do the quizzes, then his mid-terms are easy. He really likes to help his students. He has an accent, but you will get used to it and it's understandable
His class was like watching concrete harden. He's probably the pickiest grader I've ever had. I realize it's a math class, but some of the stuff he took points off for was ridiculous. DON'T buy the textbook he recommends. It's like $110, but you can buy the earlier edition for $10 with the same material. You only need the passcode which is $85.
he is very, dry and doesnt take time to fully expain his answers. his grading is out of hand, seriously needs to cool it. i think he just likes the color red. if your not top 5 in his class you are completey irrevant to him.
Boring class but if your textbook savvy then you will have no problem in this class. The text book takes you step by step and so does mymathlab. A lot oh homework in this class 50% online and 50% in class. His tests are LONG and most students do not finish them. The secret to his test is knowing how to use your calculator. If you know it you will be done way faster.
His accent isnt too bad. The textbook is very easy to follow. 50% online exams and 50% in class exams. it is not a hybrid class. Know your calculator and you will pass the class no problem. He is very helpful and wants his students to ask questions. Also offers office hours and is willing to help. Make sure you take mymathlab seriously!
Manages to make an easy class difficult. Uses MML (which is awful) for homework, requires GROUP work OUTSIDE of class, and on multiple occasions, he said something during lecture, then I read the book and found out what he said was completely wrong. He also REQUIRES that you ask questions during class (you get points for not understanding him)
While he does have an accent that is not at all what makes him a bad teacher. He lectures directly out of the book and then while doing problems on the board stands in the way so you cannot copy or follow what he is doing. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, especially over summer, he is always behind and still expects you to finish all the homework in time.
7 Exams: 4 Online, 3 On Campus. 1 Final. Wasn't informed about all online exams being mandatory if u decided to do 1 to improve grade until the day before the final. Resulting in me having to do 3 exams in a 2 day period for this one class. 8 week class, total of 8 exams. Hours a day of homework. LITERALLY HOURS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!
Tests and quizes where very unfair. No amount of hard work is going to get you through his class. Taught with only letters and did very few examples out of the book. He would fill up three whiteboards and the only number on it was the section number your where doing. He would show you how to derive and equation but never show you how to use it.
He gives waaaay to much homework and his grading system makes it very hard to do well. I took this class over the summer and nearly all I did for 8 weeks was go to class and do homework, that is not an exaggeration. I would not recommend him.
Should expect 5+ hours each HW assignment(summer). HW is online. Tests were fair. Just didn't study well enough. Very considerate of entire class' grade. Gave online exams as a way to curve exam scores. Online test averaged with in-class tests. Allows sheet of notes for final. About 3A's 6Bs maybe 10Cs then the rest were Ds or Fs. About 35 students
He is really good teacher. i wish if he ganna teach Math 401 next semester. just study hard and do good in the exams. his office hours are very helpful, go ask him anything about HW or lecture. Matti
Very frustrating to deal with. Moves at a snail's pace. Insists on quizzes being done in groups, which consists of four clueless people writing their names on my work and getting free A's. Graded work is never returned promptly. Not helpful in answering questions.
Avoid this professor. He teaches slowly and erratically. He will not keep on par with the syllabus. The online homework he issues is at times overwhelming. He teaches right out of the book and lumps you into groups for quizzes which (I believe) discourages individual understanding of the content. You have been warned.
Avoid Mr. R! His online MATH 120 course was overwhelming. Rutaganira basically throws the book at the class and expects students to figure it out. Difficult to work with others for quizzes. Some quiz questions were way off from the homework and tests. The homework is very time-consuming--he's one of those profs. who give out way too much homework!
This professors tests have nothing to do with the notes (that he copies straight out of the book) nor do the tests have anything to do with the tedious online homework. The in class tests were horrible. The only good thing about this class is that he curved the in class tests and had an easy online test to balance out the bad grade on the in class
He is a great teacher. He does not just give procedures, but actually explains the concepts and why we do what we do. Very thorough and rigorous. He is an excellent teacher for those who really want to learn.
Dr. R is a nice guy but an ineffective teacher. His in class lectures are straight from the book, showing students simple problems but testing us on insanely difficult applications of principals. Every exam has proofs and difficult applications. On several occasions I've sought help from tutors, and multiple tutors couldn't answer his problems
Mr. R is super nice, but he lectures straight from the book. He gives easy problems as examples in class and homework and then blasts you with really difficult test questions. There is always a proof on his tests. ALWAYS. Go to office hours if you can. He's much better in a one-on-one setting. I think about 70% of the class failed or dropped...
GIVES WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. Most students dropped or failed. Doesn't teach, just goes over problems you had difficulty with. Drags out explanations. Tests are WAY harder than the homework you do. I will repeat - GIVES WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. You will not have time to study for other classes.
Don't take this from him. An excessive amount of homework, quizzes, tests and exams all at a breakneck speed. Marks people down for not using the word "the." There is a reason that his classes are always open. "Instruction" consists of writing a definition on the board from the book & giving an example from the book & moving on. You've been warned.
Nice guy but very horrible at getting you to understand his lecture Lots of homework and the tests are very difficult The tutors could not help me with his written exams He teaches straight out of the book and never allows notes he makes you do quizzes in a group at your own time which is crazy because everyone schedule is different NEVER AGAIN
Amazing teacher! He is very intereinterested in helping you understand. He gets behind because he spends so much time making sure everyone understands. Major homework! Would definetly take his classes again!
Super nice Professor, teaches you what life is like - critical thinking and also thinking out of the box. He is not definitely tailored for lazy students. He prepares student for Graduate school work.
He is an awesome math professor and really gets you to learn linear algebra. If you want to learn take his class.
He lectures directly out of the book with the same simple examples but then gives really hard tests. He also goes really slowly so we were not able to finish all of the material for the class. Overall he is just not a good math teacher.
I took this class during the summer and it was a TON OF WORK! Non-stop homework. Takes me several hours a day just for homework. Really makes you work for your grade. Lectures straight from book. Can be helpful when you ask questions one-on-one. Curves all his tests and grades at the end. Intense class but if you put in the work, it is worth it!
Professor as a person is good, he's amiable, can be funny, and will help you when you need it. However, as a professor, he really falls short. First, whenever you ask a question, he seems frustrated and disgruntled by it. Secondly, he's not very clear - sometimes his answer is as confusing as the question. Lastly, incredible amounts of work needed.
As a person he has a great personality. He is friendly and he helps you when you need it. But when it comes to hw and tests. . . There is tons of hw you have to do and most of the times he is behind the schedule which is annoying bc he will pack everything up the last day. and his exams are sometimes really hard. but overall he isn't that bad.
Professor Ruth is a nice guy with his kind personality. He really want student to get a good grade by providing extra credit questions, group quizzes and many more. He is very nice in his grading criteria. His exams are not that much tough but he give partial credit. If a student study for sure he/she will get a good grade. Recommend to everyone.
He ended up subbing my class. As a person, that alone says how kind he was in agreeing to sub because the class would have ended up cancelled and we had 4 more weeks left. However, he was tough and took over the class the way he does with his regular classes, as he informed us. Generally a nice person but extremely difficult to work with.
The professor is kind and generous when you ask for help. He gives extra credit for HW; complete HW with some extra credit is a must do because it will raise your grade and help you on exams and quizzes. Some problems on quizzes and Exams are derived from HW. Exams are difficult and material requires that you understand the concept and step process
About the teacher I expected for college level pre-algebra. Pretty much just writes all the lectures on the board, all straight out of the book. The most annoying trait he had was that he would sometimes keep the class up to 5 minutes over just to finish doing one last problem. HW is all online and there's lots, so stay up to date
An accomplished student with a perfect 4.0 GPA in math, I hold both a BA and an MA. I taught high school math for many years. This professor crushed me under his foot and destroyed me. This man needs to leave academics.
I will say this briefly bc of word limit. Make sure that you do all your hw and group quizzes correctly bc the midterm is made up of the 1st 5 ch. group quizzes, it was made up of 13 long/medium ?'s. As for the final, God help you bc you will see problems that you've never seen before. If you do not have too much free time, do not take.
He is the worst professor I've never seen. He is really slow that he cannot follow the syllabus. Every class, he just read the book and copy everything on the board, and he does not connect with students, just do it by himself. It is hard to understand what his saying. He always starts class earlier and ends class late.
He is one of the worst professors I've ever had and will not recommend taking his class EVER! You have to take an exam on the same damn chapter multiple times online and in class which is very time consuming and stressful. He has a very noticeable accent that is very hard to understand.
If math does not come easily to you and you cannot devote time outside of class to study, then do not take statistics from Rutaganira. While he is very kind and has a sweet sense of humor, he's very textbook-dependent when it comes to teaching. Because of this, you really only understand the material by doing the homework, which is all online.
One time I asked for help with a homework problem and he said I should have come during office hours which was impossible because the homework was given over the weekend. He does not take time to communicate with students. Lectures are him writing definitions on the board without actually explaining anything.
I don't recommend taking this class. This professor creates tests and quizzes that are different from what you learn on My Math Lab. He also assigns online group quizzes that turn into where one person is doing all of the work and taking on all of the stress. I dropped this class because the teacher was a bad communicator with unclear due dates.
I took Thomas for precalculus and he was by far the worst teacher I have ever had for a math, he reads straight from the books definitions which are extremely confusing and not helpful in my opinion. He assigns homework which he does not go over, and the tests and quiz are exponentially harder than the homework he assigns.
This class was incredibly difficult. Group quizzes every wk. Half of the time the people in your group don't contribute at all and by the end of the semester my group consisted of me and 1 other person. The quizzes and exams are also MUCH harder than what you learn on mathlab. Constantly pushed deadlines bc everyone was so behind. Skip this prof.
Took him for Precalculus. Get ready to WORK if you Absolutely have to take him. He reads straight from the book, goes Super slow over a few a examples: He literally writes definitions on the board., and then gives you homework, and you have to figure out how to do the really hard stuff. His tests are really hard. Really nice guy, rigorous grader
I feel an obligation to come on here and warn people about this instructor. He literally spends the entire class writing on the board like he's making a second copy of the textbook. Secondly, he has no idea how much homework he assigns. He turned my 3 unit class into a 7 unit class just by time spent doing homework (not exaggerating).
Never again. You are not allowed to ask your classmates for help at all. No talking, no eating, no being disruptive of any type. I have a 2 hour and 20 minute class, talks the ENTIRE TIME, not an exaggeration. Expects group quizzes but you have to find your assigned group online yourself. Must solve tests his way or you lose major points!
Just get the audio text book and save your time. This Professor embody s everything that is wrong with the education system, no exploring subjects, no explanation , and literally upwards of 250+ equations for home work each week. so enjoy !!!
wow the pits
skip it.
His lectures are straight out of the book followed by hard tests. Small class but most of us couldnt make it.
Save yourself some time and do not take this "professor". He knows his stuff but is poor at presenting his thoughts in a way that is understandable to us. Harsh grader and has an accent which at some times can be difficult to understand. Take any other professor, save yourself
He is a very bad professor and he does not explain anything on the class and the exams very hard. I don't recommend to take it he is the worst teacher ever.
Lectures will put you to sleep and homework will keep you up all night and still not be able to finish it. He does not explain anything clearly and just reads straight from the book. Worst professor I have ever encountered. Soooo much homework quit your day job you will need the time for homework.
Mundane lectures that cause more confusion than clarity. He doesn't follow the syllabus, so every test acts as a pop quiz. Plus, the amount of homework given to make up for what he doesn't teach in class is astounding! I ended up self-teaching myself Math120 and struggled for a B, even though I'm a straight-A student.
Had to take this class because of last minute enrollement, assigns lots of hw to the point where you'll need to quit your day job to have time, super hard grader on work, almost unnecessarily strict with showing work, and will not drop a test or give any extra credit, and just reads off the book and copies it off the book. 3 units? More like 7
Absolutely the worst teacher i have ever had!!!you can barely understand him, and he literally reads out of the text book. like word for word. if anything you can teach yourself outta the book instead of going to class, the material will make more sense. he expects you to already know the material, even though you go to class for them to teach you.
Heavy grader. Heavy accent. Wont take again.
The most challenging class I took. Lectures are straight out from the book even the examples he provided for the course were out of the book. H/w has A LOT OF SOLUTIONS each chapter will have 35+, plus reviews about 60+. I do not recommend him as already said his lack of teaching skill affects the performance of all the class.
This guy is terrible at managing an online class. take a different professor.
Don't take him guys! The worst profesor I ever had.
Way too many homework, where it feel like you are doing EVERY SINGLE problems in the book. Every quiz feel like Im taking an exam, and every exam are unreasonable difficult for what is being taught in class (which by the way his notes are word by word from the textbook, also got an heavy accent). Also 3 to 4 in class exam and 3 to 4 online exam.
You will see most of the comments made about him is his accent. His accent is heavy but is not the major problem. He likes to read straight out the book word for word (no exaggeration). His online quizzes are difficult to manage because his instructions are really unclear. You will find at least one person in your class complaining about him.
This professor has a heavy accent but not difficult to understand. The first quiz is taken by yourself but the rest are group quizzes. There are 4 exams. 3 of them require written work except for the final which is multiple choice. All the other work is done online with Pearson, having enough work to make it feel like a 5 unit class.
Buddy scheduled his midterm for his Math 120 summer class for the night of July 3rd. So, all of his students had to stay in Sacramento for the 4th of July to take a midterm. We all show up ready to take the test and the professor never comes. Ruined my holiday for a test he decided to not even show up for.
Taking his class during the summer-time, what I can say you will need to spend a lot of time on it; I even worked overnight. Onsite Exams based on the chapter quizzes. Strong accents and graded harder.
I had him for a summer class and like the other comments he is definitely a hard grader. He will mark down points for very small mistakes. Do not miss class because missing one day means missing 2 or 3 sections; maybe a whole entire chapter. GOOD LUCK and get ready to sleep at late, and DO NOT procrastinate on any of the h.w.
This class is so hard over the summer, super fast pace, online work and class is so unorganized on person, over 100 question chapter review work plus section work a quiz and an online test. Grades super hard literally takes off points for very minor mistake. Doesnt really elaborate during lectures he kind just reads the book word for word.
The work is a lot. I hate that there are in person exams for an online class but it's a los Rios policy. Can't stand group quizzes but it the professor does care about his students. If you talk to him, ask for help and participate he is there for you. He lets you do extra credit and any online work you can keep trying to bring up your grade.
I would not recommend his online course to anyone. The grading scale is really rough and the professor written quizzes and tests do NOT line up well with the online homework and test material. Only about 25-30% of the class made it to exam 2.
The hardest class I have ever taken and I have over 4 years of college under my belt. I'm a 4.0 student and this was terrible. He grades VERY hard, he does not teach you, I took him online and he just posted the modules, provided no content to learn the topic, so I had to live on Youtube and Chegg for teaching. DO NOT TAKE! I REPEAT! DO NOT TAKE!
I would recommend AVOIDING Professor Rutaganira classes at all costs! He does not teach but rather assigns massive amounts of homework and expects you to learn that way. I took his class online and outside of the book there were zero resources. My class started out with around 35 students and by the second Exam down to 4 students. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!
YOU'LL DROWN IN HOMEWORK. Was required to complete 300 problems a week, along with a weekly GROUP quiz. My friend helped me each week to get everything turned in on time. Incorrect answers heavily affected my grade. This class is quantity over quality. Half the class dropped cause of the amount of work. Avoid this professor at all costs, SERIOUSLY
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Being I signed up for an 8 week, I expected a heavy workload. What I experienced was flat out excessive. Homework alone can range anywhere from 50 - 300 problems per chapter, plus an additional 100 review problems that are required. All this + a quiz and test after every chapter are due every 3-4 days. I regret not dropping.
Avoid this professor at all cost! The professor does not properly teach in a classroom setting, he literally copy and paste every word on the required textbook and the textbook is already confusing. Doesn't inform students of any deadlines, I've done everything that I could and barely survive. He told the class that we are just lazy students.
By far the most difficult class I have ever taken. I spent upwards of 300 hours working on the home work alone! Take this class if you have nothing but time and like banging your head against the wall. He does not teach or offer any lecture material. He simply assigns hundreds of difficult problems every week. out of 30 students + 3 remained at end
first, i emailed the teacher a week before the semester started trying to get my head start in the math class i had already completed transferred over once i seen the mathlab had added his class to the site. he didnt respond. i got an F in my math class because the dude wouldnt respond and i needed a password to gain access to the exam online.
I took his class fall of 2020 online. We had to explain what a curve was to him for one of our exams. We used my pearson online for homework and when I went to his office hours bringing up grading errors from the website in the homework (with screenshots of proof) he replied with the computer is always right. Worst class ever. Would never take.
ignores you when you have concerns will respond really fast to turn down help but after that will never respond. doesn't actually teach he has a computer program do it. one of those professors who dosent care about the outcome of students should never ever been an educator
In my async Math 410 class, there are absolutely zero lecture videos. His homework assignments are long, excruciatingly difficult, and repetitive. He writes "2,4,6,8... 26" and expects you do to every multiple of 2 between 2 and 26, not just those 5 problems. He never says this anywhere, and offers no extentions on homework. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
There are no lectures or help provided making this course essentially self taught. Lots of homework is given and no explanations for the questions you got wrong, just minus points. Not sure how the college can consider this teaching or why I would want to pay to teach myself. Avoid if possible, Shame on you ARC
I literally made an account just to review this teacher. For lack of a better word this teacher has no positive qualities. No lectures are provided, you are expected to learn from the book and through tons of homework. The teacher does not provide any follow up on announcements or guidance. Lastly the grading curve is broken 40%-Hw/quiz 60%-Exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, Please don't if you can. I don't understand how a professor can be so lazy yet grade you so hard. As the other comments say no lectures, no explanations, no nothing, just the book, and here are some problems good luck. also, a very strict grader will deduct points anytime he can no matter how small the mistake.
This guy does not teach you anything, if you have trouble understanding a concept you may as well drop the class cause you will fail. Professor will not help you at all and provides no note, lectures, or resources. School admin was made aware by several students and nothing changed. Unless you have a tutor on hand you will fail AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
DON'T DO IT. He is beyond awful and nonexistent. A ridiculous amount of homework, no help, all online, no lectures. I got a tutor outside and help which is the only way I passed this class. Tests are super hard and badly timed - must print, take test, then scan/upload before time runs out or 0 credit. The reviews are real - he's bad.
Avoid this class please take any other professor or class that you can. He just doesnt teach, you cant self teach this level of material. And he is the toughest grader I've ever had and doesn't even explain why you're wrong. Spoke to the math department admin and little changed. Just please please please dont take this class.
Almost no teacher participation at all. Please have access to study groups and tutors. He does not do ANY lectures. You pay for the online Cengage course and your on your own. We are put into groups with no idea why and the communication is non existant.. There are no guidelines for the discussions. You are gifted if you passed on your own.
Literally do not take this class. He will mark you off for the smallest things. I never was able to get more than 24/50(or 60). Everyone in his class was failing. Half the class dropped it in the first week bc of how bad he was. He gives so much homework by the midterm, there was at least 100 assignments. Don't even attempt to get your grade up.
The only reason I passed this class was because it was the second time taking it and I still had the notes and lectures from that class. Professor Rutaganira did not teach us anything, all he did was tell us when things were due. I wouldn't take any of his classes if it's the first time taking that subject.
Extremely lazy and unprofessional. Communication and instruction is practically nonexistent, there isn't any teaching material from him whatsoever. He does the absolute bare minimum, to the point he barely even qualifies as a professor.
By the way I had bad time in his class because I did all of my homework in each assignments when i turn in, I got 0/10, 5/10, or sometime 7/10 just because I did 1,2 question wrong, He supposed to not give me that point.
Don't take this class if you can help it. Overall throughout the 3/4 of the class we've had so far, he has released next to no unique or self-made items, and in addition to that, your entire grade relies on a randomly selected group basis. All his homework is done through MyLab, and does not give any additional explanation.
No learning materials are provided from him at all, expected only to learn through reading the online textbook, super unclear, inconsistent grading criteria will take points off tests while not explaining why, unreachable through email most of the time, like others have said he does the absolute bare minimum
This class was extremely challenging, with the professor providing little to no support or guidance. However, using resources like the textbook, Unstuck AI, and study groups helped me manage the heavy workload and difficult exams. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you're prepared for a tough, self-directed experience.
He is quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. Unreachable, inconsiderate, surprise exam that was only on canvas for three hours without any prior announcement, overall terrible teacher, very very hard grader, no feedback on tests or quizzes, does the absolute bair minimum. I regret taking him I really wish I looked at the reviews first
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Nothing I'm the class was very clear, and not helpful. I believe I could've had a different experience with another professor. I would recommend transferring out of his class if you need extra help, or if you are new to stats.
Terrible professor, has none of his own lectures for students to use. Only way of learning is through the textbook which is little help. I had to use exclusively outside resources to keep myself at a C. Exams and group quizzes are graded harshly with no useful feedback. If you take him be prepared to teach yourself. Do not take him if you can!
terrible professor straight cengage class, extremely hard on paper exams graded ever so harshly
This was an online Algebra class, so I had minimal contact with the professor. Course tutorials were done online, no lectures. He was flexible about office hours when I needed it. This course is very homework heavy and he has fairly strict deadlines. He will accept late work for a penalty. Possible A but prepare to do the work.
This dude had zero lectures, taught nothing. It's crazy he gets paid to do nothing. It should be mandatory that professors post their own material. I paid to be taught the material but got nothing for $500. The real teacher was Pearson not this dude.
This professor needs to be fired, if you pay for something and you don't get anything then that would be fraud. This is not a professor. He provides nothing educational. A tutor is more of a professor than him. A tutor will actually teach you. When I say he does nothing, I mean it. Read all the reviews.
This professor has been reported multiple occasions and nothing has been done about his terrible work ethics as a professor. Do not become one of his victims. Do not pay to have him as your professor, you'll be burning money if you do. He does nothing, no lectures. No response.
4 unit class. Each unit cost about $46, the book is $115, the calculator is also expensive. Basically $400 for this "professor" to do nothing. Paying for his class is a scam. Even a mlm would educate you compared to him.
Can't even call him a professor. You self-teach basically. Provides basically zero useful feedback on group quizzes and exams
Don't take over the summer. If I could write this in blood I would.
Do not take this dushbag. He marks off points on all exams if you don't do it “his way” but the funny thing is that he never teaches his way since the whole class is just a textbook that he himslef doesn't even know about. Like at least explain or post a announcement on how you want students to do the exam problems if you are going to dock points.
Very bad professor would not recommend to my worst enemy he made me go through so much trauma. I took him for calculus 2 online course at ARC as a summer class. Whole class is a whole cengage class. Too much homework no lectures very picky grader. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!
Didn't have any lecture of his own, the class was 3 hours long and just him reading from the textbook. All the online work was through pearson and you had to pay to do it through pearson separate from the textbook. I dropped after the first day.
Honestly one of the most difficult professors I've come across. I couldn't reach him at all. I would message him and he wouldn't respond in days but I would see him annotating our tests. Get ready to do a bunch of test questions and only have a short period of time to complete them. He also marks your answers wrong even if they are right.
No lectures at all. This professor is horrible, please avoid him, for your own mental sanity, you will be spending 80 hours plus trying to explain and understand all the topics doing crazy amounts of problems per week and all that for him to give you a D at best because he did not like how you answered a question. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
So I live on house 1522 on the street norden way in woodland ca and this dude was pretty chill over there
After a whole semseter with this prof, I can understand the reviews. Beware and only take if you absolutely have to. 0/10.
