Great teacher, dont trip!!!
Easy A
Very good teacher. knows subject very well. Would recommend other students to take his courses.
Wonderful Prof.
Very boring...just stood there and read from his notes. Didn't really try to make students engage. Got an A though but was bored most of the time.
I'm sorry but this guy sucks for Summer Session. He would give the study guide last minute, and gave 50+ terms to memorize, which where he will only ask for about 15 on the tests. If you squeeaze everything in your notecard, you are well on your way.
Very knowledgable teacher but just lectures. Boring class, doesn't involve the students. It's hard to keep up with the reading. The study guide is long and theres 100 questions to know. There's only two tests, midterm and final. It's not an easy class.
Studying is absolutely necessary for passing tests, objective tests are easier. Very big on remembering dates, and class time is spent on 3/4 lecture and sometimes 1/4 video. Offers extra credit.
This class just felt like forever over the summer, but it is easy to memorize everything for the exam the night before. No need to read the book.
All he did was stand in front of class and read off his class notes. I sometimes wanted to fall asleep since it was so boring, but if you are very interested in history and smart you will get a good grade. I wouldn't recommend him but he is the only history teacher in the mornings. I barely passed his class, study for your tests and do extra credit
I had him last spring and he did just read lecture notes from front of class without class participation. If you go to class and take notes, he just goes off the notes for the tests. I started out reading the book, got a bad grade, then for the final I studied the notes and got an A.
I actually find the class very interesting, I have been in session w/ him for about two weeks but so far soo good, and yes it is hard to keep up w/ the lectures especially when history doesn't interest you!
Not easy, but not that difficult of a teacher either. All in all, I learned a lot and that's why I took that class!! I would definitely take another class with him as a prof again.
Says um,uh, and you know alot as he lectures
Class is boring.. he give lectures but it's a pretty easy class if you study once and awhile
HE HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE SIMPSONS!
He made me think alot his class wasn't easy but that is what made it gret, because I still learned and he would challenge us to learn more
THE MOST BORING CLASS EVER... he is very boring... but i guess that is just history... he is pretty easy...
U JUST GOTTA GO & TAKE GOOD NOTES
Take good notes and you will pass the class.
If you are good at essays, deffinately take his essay test. Take good notes and keep track of key phrases as you go (they will help on the mid-term and final).
cool professor. knows his stuff. lectures are clear, informative, but hard to follow cuz he's so cute i can't concentrate on anything but him. if you take notes in lecture you will pass class.
yes, history can be boring but dr. salinas makes it interesting. good stories. midterms are challenging but if you take lecture notes you will pass test. nice ties.
very good and caring professor. gives you second chances if you mess up on exams and class attendance. just took the midterm exam--very fair--all the questions based on lectures and required reading so if you took notes in class and read the book the test is easy. i will take another class from dr. salinas in the future.
muy guapo. that's spanish for very good looking. the history is ok. lots of informtion in lecture but it is a lecture course so he has to talk a lot. he can be funny but not when he's trying to be. take lots of notes if you want to do well on exams.
Great teacher, difficult class. lots of work. come to every class, take notes, pay attention, and you will do alright. i love history and i learned a lot in this class.
He's an ok teacher. History is quite boring and he makes it more boring. It's probably just the subject. Obsessed with dates. True, he gives you a chance to rewrite the tests.
About average as far as difficulty, but he is pretty cool and has a good class. He has a voice that can put you to sleep though!
History was boring, but hearing a lecture about history is a snorefest. He made it easy, though. Reviews before tests & lets you use a notecard. I ended up with a B.

most of the time we watched videos and he gives u extra credit if u submit the notes. his tests are announced and he gives u a review sheet several sessions before. u can have a notecard when u take the test. he also gives u the choice between a multiple choice test with short essay or having a thorugh essay exam. hardly any hw but some are inclass
He can get boring because he only reads from his lectures; overall, he is a nice teacher and passing the class is not hard.
I took Chicano Studies with this guy in spring 2005 and since Im not a history major and have never been interested in History or I have some kind of ADD i would just get lost, but he has actually been one of the best hist professors i have ever had since elementary... His lectures are good and he makes them unique and easy to understand. He's good
Chill, ans easy!
I took this guy a 2nd time, this time for Mexican History. My opinion of him went up since I have more college experience. I think he is a very good prof. He shows lots of videos and his lectures give lots of info and insight.
easy class. failed the midterm (and probably the final) but did extra credit and got an A
I love history, in fact I want to major in History. This teacher however made me dread history class. No amount of Red Bull or love for history kept me awake in his class, and the sad part is I love the subject but one teacher can spoil it for you. I would have to say if you want an easy A take his class because he is just that an easy A
Salinas is a good teacher, only thing I could say is that he needs to make the history he is lecturing on more interesting. The book he choose for the semester of Spring 08 (Out of Many) is a great, great book!
I have to say that Salinas is the most horrible teacher I have ever had!His grading is unfair and he gives unequal opportunities to do make ups.He checks out girls all the time and Im a girl saying all this. His study guides do not help out at all as well as his lectures do not either!I really recommend that he retire soon!
Loved him got an A!!!! Easy if you like HIstory...all it is, is old gossip hahahaha
Everything you'd expect from a history teacher but on the good side. Not boring at all, gets to the point. Makes history feel a little more alive than most teachers I've had. Very fair grader and isn't too hard on you. Definitely would recommend to anyone.
I took his history of Mexican People in the US. The class was very interesting and did not seem that hard. I just think his grading is probably not fair because I had an A for most of the semester and then I wound up with a B. His tests are very specific sometimes and you do have to study for them. Attendance is very important.
deff. re commend you take, i NEVER had interest in history, true History Teacher, should be at UC Level, very clear! i am not a english major but he totally brings you into history, class interesting always! take notes from Power point it really helps, and of course read the Book, (you did pay for)I can sit and listen to him for many hours, the bst
Easiest class ever, horrible teacher though. doesn't explain anything, cancels class all the time, basically doesn't teach you anything. doesn't assign any homework.
On that last comment, if this class is not easy, maybe you dont belong in college. This teacher is extremely clear, i came back to JC from Cal due to price increase, HES the best. but i do notice there are alot of high school students who wont agree, again this is a college course, i feel extremely confident that this is a Great proff or your wrong
Class is quite easy. He misses classes at time, but that doesn't really present a problem. He gives many extra credit oppurtunities in the form of a book report and video notes (each set of notes is worth 5 points max). Overall an easy course.
Overall easy professor. Lectures consist of power points and movies. He misses class a lot to the point that he does not cover all topics. Come on I took a US history class and he did not cover the Civil War. He takes attendance in form of a sign in sheet. Tests are easy he gives you the essay questions and review terms and allows an index card.
Cool & easy class, funny teacher, laid back class
Hating US History, i actually learned better than in high school. He is pretty easy, but he does have good lectures and notes. I didnt read the book at all. With a few background of the topics, i think it was a good class. He does give you alot of chances to do good in his class like the notecard on tests, and study guides.
Basically it was my second time taking his class, the first time I failed because I didn't read and didn't even bother to show up to the final. In order to pass his class read!!!!!! Read the required chapters?!!!!!!! His exams are from the book and the lecture notes so b in class!!!! I passed this class with a b
Mr.Salinas is one of the most boring teachers i've ever had the privelage of knowing. I REALLY liked history before taking his class. he made me lose all interest in it though. I never went to class. or opened the book. and got a C. So what does that show you about his teaching?...
He's a nice teacher but pretty boring at leacturing. He only reads from his power point but it's organized. There's no hw, only tests SO READ! he allows a 4x7 notecard.
The best histoty prof i ever had. He does a great job of explaining everything in detail. U wont need the book if u take good notes. Dont just copy his notes. Takes notes on what he is saying THATS THE KEY. Not a easy A. I got As on his two exams just off the notes i took.My only dislike is that he never returns ur emails. If you have a question
VERY PROFESIONAL I LEARNED ALOT IN HIS CLASS I TOTALLY RECOMEND HIM
extemly good looking....amd very helpful totally learned alot in his class!
(cont)-just look the terms up online. Worked for me. And a note: any past bad review over Dr. Salinas because of little things like cancelling class often, not explaining things in his lectures, etc. are unfounded. Probably didn't care about the class or their future anyway. Dr. Salinas makes the class simple for you to pass. Highly recommended.
Study guides provided give you short essay questions on test & are EXACT ones on test. Also key terms, though not all appear in lectures or videos-some from book and supplemental Nicenet articles, but usually about 10-15% of all terms comes from the latter two sources. Again, he hardly used book in class, so you don't really need it (cont below)
Says he will give more EC if you retype notes vs. just what you write that day video is shown. Also can turn in 1 class-related book report for EC. In lecture, as noted below, copy BOTH notes on Powerpoint & what he says. Book NOT necessary for class unless you want to learn much more on your own-lectures and videos do the job.
If you dread history classes, as I do, Dr. Salinas is the one to take. First, he is nice, engaging, & willing to answer any questions you have. For this class, NO homework NOR papers to do. Grade is simply midterm, final-35% each & attendance-30%. Allows 4x6 notecard for tests. Occasionally shows videos-take notes, & retype them-EC possible here!
Prof. Salinas is a wealth of knowledge. I HAD to take this class to graduate, but I found myself enjoying it. He is open to your questions, and to your opinions on the subject matter. I would highly recommend this instructor for any of his classes
AMAZING PROFESSOR! NO HOMEWORK BUT MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK (HE LIKES CLASS PARTICIPATION) SUPER UNDERSTANDING, VERY FRIENDLY, LETS YOU USE A NOTECARD FOR EXAMS, WE WATCHED LOTS OF EXCITING VIDEOS AND HE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY TO MAKE LECTURES FUN. JUST PLEASE KEEP FROM USING YOUR CELL PHONE IN HIS CLASS, HE LIKES TO HAVE YOUR FULL ATTENTION =)
Took Chicano Studies with Professor Salinas. History is not my favorite subject, but he did try. He lectures with Power Point, shows videos, and has you read from the required text. Grade consists of attendance, midterm and final. Let's you use a cheat-sheet (index card) for both. This class was REALLY boring, but I do recommend if interested.
i think history is one of the most boring subjects out there but Dr Salinas makes history actually kind of interesting bc he's fun! .. and alwys willing to answer all ur questions .. cooL teacher! lets u use an index card w notes for ur midterm oh & gives u No hmwk! .. which is awesome!
awesome teacher, really down to earth. Helps out if your in danger of failing always gives extra credit.
If you want a professor to only lecture and show movies, Professor Salinas is the class you want. He doesn't give homework, and rarely gives quizzes. I did find his class boring and uninspiring. Though I do find Professor Salinas a likable guy. On your exams make sure to include all DATES, PEOPLE, PLACES, and WHYs, for every term and question.
Hes a cool professor but he trys to be funny hahaha hes pretty easy i think!
His class is overall boring but pretty easy. Just show up take notes and luckily most his classes are only an hour. He's helpful for those who seek extra credit and lets students retake an exam if they receive a D/F. Show up, sign in, take movie notes then you'll pass for sure.
If you want easy grade take this class sit next to your friends cheat among each other swap papers sign your friends name role sheet bring a pillow blanket BORING teacher
I am currently taking him for history of the US 1. At first i thought he was cool. Doesnt give HW, had one quiz and the rest is midterm and final. but his midterm and final study guides basically tells you to study EVERYTHING. so it was no help. probably failing. boringgg. hate. it.
Very good and humour teacher. He knows exactly what he wants to teach his students. Easy A!
his class is not hard, but the study guide he gives u is not very helpful, he gives u loys of terms to study rhats it n like 6 essay questions to study,, but he gives u extra credit which helps a lot!! i got an A
he have great way to lecture, he provide with movies which it help me so much because I'am visual learner pass his class with a over all great class and material. make you think!!
Great professor. Our class examinations were simply structured with 2 quizzes in-between the midterm and final. Pretty much the only main tests are the midterm and final, so they are more condensed with course material. It's best for you to have read the book chapters before coming to class, so his lectures can reinforce or clarify the material.
This is a pretty simple class. Just take notes, read the book, and take the tests. Salinas is pretty straight forward, although he covers a lot of information, so read the book. He can sometimes be a little boring, for those who do not enjoy history, but I loved every second of it. He is funny at times, and very friendly.
This professor is simple and clear about the requirements to pass the course, though I believe the class material he presents is elementary at best.On numerous occasions I had lost the desire, at times my entire interest, to pay attention and proceeded to devote my time to other things worth it.
He's very interested in his subject, but I can't say I was engaged to the subject. The class consists of tests, videos, and many many...MANY notes. You will need to study for the tests he gives; I doubt anyone could pass them otherwise. I'm sure he seemed great for others, but it just was not an enjoyable class in my opinion.
Awesome Professor and History class interesting
He's a very good teacher. Just take notes and study study study. I was never interested in history but he made it interesting to me. do the review sheets and you will be successful.
Very easy class to pass. Make sure to show up, take notes, and read the textbook. There are no homework assignments just a couple of quizzes, a midterm and final. He allows you to use as many notecards on midterms and finals. Very nice teacher ask any questions if you have them. Clear and simple. Uses powerpoints for lectures.
Professor Salinas makes the class interesting, but is very tough on grading. There is no homework, but you really need to know the material for the tests. I really believe I should have got a better grade than I did.
This class can be easy or hard if you don't study. TAKE NOTES, READ THE BOOK. Mr. Salinas is very fair when grading.
MONOTONE. Salinas is very vague when it comes to what he expects you to know for the MIDTERM&FINAL. He hands out a study guide, but its pointless. He asked questions that were not in his lecture. The chptrs in the book are too long. He grades on a curve, which is nice. Even though you're allowed notecards, memorize EVERYTHING
the best professor i have ever had. i will take another history class with him again..
Mr. Salinas is more than fair in his grading. Just show up to class, take notes, participate, and read the chapters. He makes it interesting by lecturing and showing videos. I thought I knew Mexican history, but he has taught me much more than I have ever know. Great class to take. VIVA LA RAZA!
He is a great professor. He gives you the needed study material so as long as you do the study guide AND define the vocabulary, you will get an A. Be on time and act like you care about being in his class. He does not like rude and lazy students.
Dr. Salinas is a good professor, but he can expect a lot when it comes to the MIDTERM & FINAL! The class is very interesting only if you're into History. I recommend this professor for this class!
Take notes and you will pass the class. He is a pretty fair professor (:
I took him for Us History in the Fall "14. His lecture is power points. He shows alot of videos. No homework. Maybe 1 or 2 quizzes but you can use your notes. And on the final and midterm he lets you use as many note cards as you want which is really helpful. Pretty much easy class. Just take notes and read the textbook. i would recommend him.
Prof. Salinas is easy if you read the chapters. Please study! the mid term and the final are based on his lecture notes! i learend that the hard way. he wanted dates and details in the answers! he is very nice other then that. as long as yuo read and pey attention itll be fine. you always do a presentation fyi. I took him for world history and mex.
Professor Salinas's class was very easy , it is hard to fail this class ! As long as you show up ready with notes for the midterm and final and do the presentation easy A+ Guaranteed!
Grades on a curve. Uses power-point, never calls on anyone, gives two quizzes only truefalse, a mid term and a final. A book is required though he never checked. I never used it . However, midterm and final I used about 100 index cards (which he allows as many as you want) I had all the info crammed on them with the stuff he said would be on test
Professor Salinas is monotone . He talks all class long otherwise plays videos if he isn't talking but pretty easy and allows index cards for test.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. I was chillaxing the whole time, sometimes I even took short naps during class, and I still got an A. Just make sure you STUDY before tests. For finals, study the vocabulary and use index cards.
class is easy. however, he is a MONOTONE man, goes off topic on irrelevant things and his powerpoints are pointless to review. he gives you the midterm review sheet a week before the midterm with topics that he has never discussed before. you MUST read in this class or you will fail. trust me the readings are not fun to read.
He's easy. Just show to class, take notes, study and you'll be fine.
Yes he is monotone, but he is a very sweet/nice guy. HIs lectures will only be interesting if you have an interest in history otherwise beware of getting sleepy eyes. Tests are rough. Gives a review sheet full of some things not covered. Overall not a hard class.
Great Professor, due the work and you will pass the class. Do not text nor talk because he will not pass you. Pay attention most questions for quizzes/ mid-term/final are in power points and videos. My grade was a (B) because History is not my subject and sometimes I slacked off. However, pay attention and you will pass the class with an (A).
Sudy all the powerpoints from the lectures and ALL of terms and names which can be a lot. Let's you use notes but beware you have no time to go back and look through them on quizzes he puts his quizzes on a powerpoint and only gives you a couple minutes maybe about 2 min it isn't enough to look through your notes.
This professor is very chill, lectures are all based on power points. take notes for sure! take advantage of using notecards on test. a lot of information is given during each lecture so try not to miss class. he made the class interesting. he talks the whole class and shows quite a few videos here and there. you need to put in the effort to pass.
Professor Salinas is very passionate about his job! You can expect to take a lot of notes based of Powerpoint lectures . Take great notes and show up to class ! He allows you to use note cards for the final which helps a lot ! He also requires a book report on a reading of your choice! I will definitely be taking another class from him
I took his 8AM class but this was great. He makes it interesting! Lectures gave you everything you need to know. Everything was on D2L, so you didn't really NEED to go to class but he SAYS a lot of important information. You really don't need the book, but on tests there are some things he doesn't go over at all. 1 project. Cool guy!
