very helpful but you have to be very specific about asking questions
Good lecturere, really knows math. Is very passionate about teaching, but you must ask questions ask questions!
good guy, really loves his cigs... even during a exam he will leave the class for a smoking break, but over all really good guy, I got an A but most of my class wasn't as fortunate.
I got an A in the class; probably cause it was the 2nd time I had Calculus. HW due on tests. Some quizes. Not that hard when you understand the methods. Plenty of smart Asians. Gotta have that smoke huh.
horrible professor for calculus 3 (not sure of others). i couldnt get what he was talking about for the 1st month, so i decided to not show up for class much at all, and decided to teach myself, and was gettin C's to B's, while before i was gettin D's.
do the homework and study you'll be fine...he's always willing to help. Talk to him after class and such because if he can he'll help you with who to take teacher wise.
Nice guy and great lectures. test come from left field and are hard. the thing is is he curves at the end so stick throught the class. I failed every test and got a C in the class. Little homework and barely any quizzes. No attendance required.
Good teacher... he looks like Neil Young
does not care, makes you do a lot of extra work because he dosn't prepare you
ten quizzes, lowest two is dropped. 3 tests + final (the final can replace lowest test grade). homework counts as extra credit so do them. quizzes are fairly easy, tests are more difficult. although the lectures are somewhat hard to follow and sleep-inducing, he's most willing to help you after class.
scardina REALLY knows his math! excellent preparation for future classes. this was my second time taking it and it was a summer class so i got a B, but the tests were multiple choice on the concepts and there were some written problems at the end. tests really werent hard, quizzes were easy, i never even did the hw i just faked it and still got 5's
great teacher as long as you work at it. a teacher can only make a math class so easy.
Very hard class. If you are not good at math this is not the class for you.
He knows whathe is doing. He will answer all your questions.
He will help you if you don't understand something and u never stay for the whole time.
i took his class in summer, and i got an A. He really knows the stuff, and can answer all the questions. His tests were kinda hard, but if u learn it well, not only full credit, u can even get the extra points. Great class!! && he dismisses class early, and thats really kool 8]
He is a very boring teacher. If you don't know your math then i suggest tnat u sit the front. He always dismiss the class after his lecture which is an hour early.
Mr. Scardina knows his stuff. He is well prepared, clear on explanations, and is usually available for help immediately after lecture... he gives you time to do hw, and ask any questions. Tests were hard, but I thought the subject was hard. No trickery here - he's clear, to the point, and professional.
This guy is kinda mean. His teaching is clear but he assumes you know all your math before coming into his class. His tests aren't super hard but be prepared to write out problems. Fianl is easy all multible choice. Just be careful, he is harder than he sounds!!
Good teacher. His tests are based on concepts and formulas. The study guide helps alot, but make sure to STUDY! He does have a study session available after lecture, but no one really stays. Dont skip class, esp. on quiz days - NO MAKE-UP. Take good notes. Ask questions. Simple.
he is good at wat he talks about. he dismisses class early
Do the homework and u will be fine
not a great teacher unless you already know all of it and you're taking a review. Tests are half multiple choice and ha;f you have to work out. He talks only half the class and you get to go home. He's not mean or anything just not that good at teaching.
THANK THE LORD I PASSED THIS CLASS WITH A "C". THE SUBJECT ITSELF IS REAL HARD BUT WE ALL NEED A MATH TO TRANSFER. HIS GRADING SYSTEM IS REALLY FAIR SO IM GUESSING THATS WHAT HELPS.
good teacher, drops 1 test out of 6 and 2 quizzes of 10, teaches fairly well, tests not to
boring! helpfull! but be aware to get up and go to the bathroom; i got kicked out for the day because i went to the bathroom... get ready for some work its not going to be easy, but the again cal. has never been an easy subject
This class is so boring and hard. Can't even ask a question.
He is VERY PROFESSIONAL IN HIS TEACHINGS, 1st of all. He teaches stuff with real knowledge of the subject. I really needed this class for my transfer.. when i took him, 1st he looked hard. but i was wrong. becasue he is really doing his job, giving notes and review and ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS JUST STUDY GOOD FROM THE study guide.
He is very clear in his lectures. You might want to sit up front. The writing gets a bit messy. Memorize the formulas and always double check your work. Ask lots of questions during the time when he lets you work on the in class assignments. Always ask if you doing it right. Teaching varies from the book a bit so learn it his way or the books.
He is the best Math teacher! Very clear and helpful! He makes Cal easy to understand~ Luv his class! highly recommend!!
doesn't know how to lecture at all. Always confuse you wit higher math that has nothing to do with the problem on the board. Lets u out early b4 class ends. Tests are similar to test sample/review (a little more trickier). Makes error a lot but never admits that its his fault. Say NO 2 most of everything u ask.
Professor is very knowledgeable about the subject. His lectures are well prepared, concise, and usually error free. If you have a serious question then he is more than willing to help, but he does not tolerate stupid questions and can be somewhat intimidating at times. If you are serious about math then he is a good professor.
Frequently skips steps which is confusing when you're trying to learn higher math skills. Examples in class are not like the problems assigned for homework and the problems on the tests/worksheets are similar to lecture examples, but different enough to be confusing. Difficult to do well, unless you understand Calculus already.
I took him for Calc one and he is a really good professor. He explains everything he does and he assigns fun problems. He tells us the applications of math and he always answers questions. I didn't like calc much before his class but he made it a lot of fun. Be sure to take him for math
he dismisses class early and his lectures are quite boring I think if you study well it's not too hard to get an A
Great teacher I ever had. He never cut my exam time like Mr Klaus, and willing to give some 5' more for you to complete your exam. Worksheet and homework are means to get extra credit and easy to get max points. His lectures are very easy to understand, he is generous to evaluate your exam, too. I love every minute in his class. Take him! And LONG LI
Perfect Teacher. LONG LIVE MR SCARDINA!
<3 He's chill. Let's students out way before class time is over. Well organized -- allows students to know what assignments there are, and when exactly the test dates are. Goes over homework problems in class. Fairly decent tests.
teacher was easy, drops lowest test, all you gotta do is study and do all the homework, his test have about 10-20 problems for cal 2. if you have no other choice take this guy he is the best and you can get a B easily
always comes late, goes into room, and switches math teacher mode on. keeps going and going. i found this class quite difficult, though some others seem to be doing ok. 4 tests. one dropped and replaced by duplicate final grade, so do good on final. he's got his perks, he's ok.
I'm going back to school, have not taken Math for over 8 yrs, was nervous at first but Mr Scardina was great, easy going, well organized, I passed with a B though I prayed for a C in the beginning :) He doesn't take roll but you must attend the class, I found it mandatory and helpful.
Meh, he was okay. He shouldn't cancelled classes twice, though, since the class only lasts about an hour and a half which is pretty short for a college class. There was very little communication between the students & and instructor. It's him talking the whole time and there's no break. To be honest, it was quite boring. He's pretty fair, though.
He's lazy. He doesn't give difficult examples, not like what's going to be on the test. He just goes the examples in the book - lame. Makes you feel stupid for asking a question and is not at all helpful. I think his health has a lot to do with it. He's the worst math teacher I've had. He writes on the board and then stands in front of it.
EXTREMELY BORING. His lecture is useless since there's an online program that explains everything.I still had to go to class just to learn how to use a calculator though. Very poor communication verbally and technically. He will answer all your questions, but he could be very sarcastic and makes you feel stupid. I would never ever take him again.
Not approachable at all, but he knows his stuff. Lecture is boring, tests are tough. All quizzes are online : ) All homeworks are online : ) Lowest exam score is dropped (which means you can miss one without having to make it up). Just don't ask any stupid questions!...he'll embarrass you in front of EVERYONE!
His lecture are very boring and he is very mechanical. I had a health scare which resulted in many hours in the hospital and was not able to take the quiz online. I asked him if I can retake it and he said No. I was struggling in his class but he was not at all helpful. Always comes late to class. He reads word for word right out from the book.
his lectures are kind of boring but his tests are pretty easy - all multiple choice and is based on online practice exam. he also gives out homework assignments and some inclass worksheets which help bring up your grade. he dismisses class early almost everyday. overall, he's a great professor.
Had him for math 180 and math 185. Got an A in 180 and a C in 185. The first half of the semester in 185 was pretty easy and I had an A, but the class gets pretty tough once you get to the infinite series section. Don't think you will get an A or B just because you ace the first 2 exams in 185.
A super LAZY, and a BIG LIAR. very IMPOLITE, UNPROFESSIONAL, and UNORGANIZED TEACHER.
he was alright. lectures are boring because it's math. not very lenient on excuses so don't try it. i liked him up until the final. he gives us a review which usually helps but for the final i had the review memorized and the final was nothing like the review so i ended up with a C. quiz online ARE LAMe if you miss a period or comma its markd wrong
I took his class during the summer and got a B, but I could have gotten an A if I tried. Compared to my previous class I took in high school, this one was a lot easier. He tries to explain the subject matter fully, and if you're having trouble, you can ask him. Attendance isn't mandatory unless you want points for classwork.
he's quite helpful if you go ask him.Lectures quite boring, esp at noon.if you want to get an A, try to work hard at the beginning (test1) coz later the tests will be quite quick(in 2 or 3 weeks there's a test). 3 tests(drop 1 lowest) and 1 final. 4 homework due on test dates. The tests are about what he emphasized in class, not hard but not easy.
I love this guy!I had the Hoangster for Calc 1 and got a C.I am getting an A in Calc 2 with this guy and I am border line retarded!I highly, highly recommend this guy for all math courses at GWC!
his notes are similiar to the textbook. might as well not go to class and just read the book. overall not recommended if you struggle with math
Seems to be quite knowledgeable in his subject matter; and provides interesting historical side-stories about math. So far he seems not to deviate from the slides and speeds through material pretty fast?in his defense, I don't ask many questions and it is a summer class, I think he's just memorized the curricula and forgets that we haven't.
All his work seems to be related to the book ( as is most math classes) He breaks down into understandable steps. He always answers my questions after class. This class might seem a bit drawn out, not going to lie, but I'm glad I got mr scardina. He's super easy, he is graded more than fair. I skipped 3 of 15 hw assignments and I got 5/5. Tests are okay, not hard but not simple. Great teacher
Mr scardina is a great teacher. He will answer any questions that are asked. Grades hw packets more than fairly, for I would skip a few assignments in each one. Only 3 tests, not hard but not easy. I already knew most of the material so he wasn't difficult to understand. I would imagine he is great for first time learners but can be dry if you're not patient or interested. Go to every class because most of them require classwork points. Will definitely take him for 185. Recommended !
Boring teacher, has a monotone voice throughout the whole class. Had to teach myself everything through the book and mymathlab. No extra credit offered and doesn't really seem to like to help out with problems.
He's a great teacher for Math 180. His tests are EXACTLY like the practice tests he gives you. It's very reasonable to get at least a B in that class. However, I took 185 with him and failed. Unless you're VERY good at calculus, I don't recommend taking Calc 2 with him. The exams he makes for Calc 2 are extremely difficult, nothing like Calc 1.
If you're planning on taking this teacher, be warned that you may have to teach yourself Calculus. He teaches the concepts in class, and expects you to know how it is applied to the homework problems; but if you don't understand, you can always ask him in class, he will answer your questions. Practice tests are like the tests. He grades fairly tho!
got a B. had to teach myself calculus. mostly slept in class or ditched bcus i couldnt understand his ways. homework comes easy but the problems on the exams get 5x harder. he expects you to know the materials inside-out. however, he does grade fairly easily. he takes off fewer points if he sees you make a simple mistake (as opposed to mr. hoang).
Took his precalc class. Not easy, not hard. Really boring and your probably going to have to teach yourself like i did. Fair guy and he'll make you laugh once every two weeks. Got B
He is pretty fair with grading. He will cancel class twice. He gives you a good study guide for exams. The class is boring but what do you expect its math! He is a good teacher just listen and do the hw and you'll be fine
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had. His lectures do not match up with the Mymathlab he has us use. His test reviews are ALWAYS incorrect (whats the point of having your students study with something that is wrong)? All I can think of is that he does not care about his students learning. In which case I think it is time he was replaced.
I think professor Scardina is very nice and explains concepts really well. You just have to attend lecture and actually pay attention. Do the homework and really understand the concepts because tests are tricky. Half of the test is MC and the other half is written. Many exercises resemble the practice exam. Very nice professor. :)
His tests are hard for this class. Make sure you know ALL the concepts! He is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He does not trick you (the final is super hard) but wants you to be able to solve the entire problem using what you learned in class. Minimal hw, easy grading (extremely lenient), funny guy. I loved him!! :)
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. He rushes the lectures to get out early, he barely goes over a formula's structure and doesn't even explain how to use it. The homework and quiz problems are different then what he talks about in class. Only class I have ever dropped and it's because the teacher can't teach.
The worst teacher I have ever taken. As if Calculus isn't already a hard subject, he goes through each problem quickly just to sit down or leave class early. Reviews in class are POINTLESS and his tests are harder than review and HW. Do yourself a favor and AVOID TAKING HIM!!!
I'm going keep this as honest and precise as possible to give you guys an idea of this professor. Okay so I'm currently enrolled in his math 140. He uses my math lab. 10 quizzes and 4 homework assignments online. He has 3 tests, drops lowest, and a final. Just show up take notes and you will pass. You always do get out early. Not a hard teacher.
Prof. Scardina was great. He was patient with me and he always stayed after class to answer individual questions from the students. Although he doesn't require attendance, I wouldn't miss a class or you could easily fall behind.
Awful. Didn't explain things clearly. Went on long rants about easy subjects, and skimmed over difficult formulas. He was clearly uninterested in being there. He told our class he had been retired and they asked him to come out of retirement to teach this course. Was often rude to the students in class.
They pulled this poor man out of retirement to teach this class. I'm really good at math, but if a professor doesn't break things down for me forget it. He's very brief with his lectures. Quiz's are more like tests. Reviews for exams are not very helpful. Now I have to retake this class at another campus because he's the only that teaches it GW.
I have considered rating a professor before, but I HAD to make an account for this one. He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Not only are his lectures all over the place, but he doesn't explain ANYTHING. He has a hard time lecturing(standingtalking), so he always ends class early. Nothing he does prepares you for the exams. Don't bother
The only thing Scardina actually spends time teaching thoroughly, is how he used to solve problems when he was in college (B.C.) era. AKA (Before Calculators). After explaining it on the board, he will tell the class you wont be using this method. (everyone was taking notes on it). He is THAT professor that has to show the class how smart he is.
This teacher is a joke. We were doing a review for an exam in class, which isn't much of a review I might add, and some guy pointed out that the answer guide had a wrong answer on it. (This was one of many wrong answers on the key) Scardina literally started shaking he was so mad, and said "Whoopty-Do" We have been studying wrong answers for a week
If you want to PASS don't take this class, you'll regret it the second the drop deadline for a W passes. - Doesn't teach anything in class and doesn't go over any homework problems- 3 chances to take each quiz and the tests are horrible, but honestly if he just did some ACTUAL TEACHING we'd be able to get through it. Just don't do it.
He is clear sometimes, then other times makes no sense at all. Doesnt seem to care that he assigns too much work like a quiz, homework, and test all being due the same day. Condescending when answering questions and his practice tests have errors just about every time.. I'm a straight A student and this class is too much. Prepare to teach yourself
Phenomenal teacher. Truly passionate about math and helping others. He challenged me to do my best, to show up, participate, and pushed me for excellence. I found Mr. Scardina to potentially be my favorite professor at GWC. He really prepared me for the future. SHOW UP, WORK HARD, ASK QUESTIONS, APPLY Yourself-you will pass. he loves to help too
Great teacher. Show up, ask question and do your homework. You'll do great! I hated math before but pass this class with an A+. He's there to help you! Would def recommend him to anyone. Don't know why people are so harsh on him here. :)
He literally goes through the material so quickly, its ridiculous to keep up. More then half the class dropped the class after the first test. Long homework assignments, tough tests, terrible lectures. Skip this teacher if you want to pass
He is very hard to understand at often times. Tests are sometimes not straight forward. Do not take him as a professor at all.
He drops one test so that helps you pass the class. I took him for calculus 1 and 2 and he offers great material to help you pass the class. He may not teach that great but the class is easy if you put in some work.
Homework and quizzes were more useful than his lectures, has curved grading for them and ironically still doesn't help (Received a B from online hw/quizzes) (Sets you up for a loss) Tests do not reflect the Pearson online material or his lecture material each test is harder and caused me to fail I DO NOT recommend, your GPA will drop!
Hes an average professor. His lectures only gives you a gist on how to do the homework. His tests aren't too hard because he gives a good study guide before each one. For homework its online and there are about 100-120 problems that you can do at your own pace over a month. quizzes are also online and you get 3 attempts.
Easiest class by far. Students will use MyMathLab to do homework. Tests included multiple choice questions and writing assessment. His tests are long but they're pretty easy.
Currently sitting in his class right now, it's boring. The guy is a lenient instructor, but not very engaging. I have to pretty much teach myself the material. Roughly 100 problems assignments due in 1 month, very manageable. His tests do not reflect was on the homework. But do go over test reviews. Take another course xD trust
Definitely makes you work for his grade, but VERY understanding. Stay after class, ask questions, he tries to help immensely, and is VERY RESPONSIVE TO EMAILS. Email him with questions, stay after, ask for help, its not an easy course. Work hard and earn it.
I hated math all my life, and I still do, but he made it a lot less daunting! His lectures are easy to understand, and weekly quizzes with 3 attempts keep you accountable yet a chance to raise your grade. One of the only classes Ive ever tried in math :) Hes lenient, knowledgeable, and just a nice guy overall.
I took him online and it's super confusing everyone! He gave us 15 quizzes on Pearson for the whole semester and 5 tests ( tests must be including Lockdown browser) If you can't work by yourself with Math, don't take him!!!
