Awesome Professor!
I learned more from my high school english class
Great teacher, a lot of busy work and homework and group work. No Finals or tests or quizzes in my eng 105 class! Farley easy but the papers are worth a ton of points, do good on those or your screwed.

Everyday in Skeen's class was like serving detention in high school. I hated every second of it. GCU's attendance policy didn't help though, because all I wanted to do was skip his class and I couldn't.
Skeen was straight up the worst professor that I had my freshman year. I hated every second of his class. He treated the student's like we were in elementary school instead of college. most of the work in the class was busy work. On top of that, whenever you actually had a question, he would answer it with another question. I did not learn a thing.
He did alright.

Upside, Dr. Skeen tries to make it fun and helps you along the way to write your paper. Downside, there are only 3 papers for the semester and you have to be at every class and participate.
I enjoyed Dr. Skeen!
Fun professor. Not really helpful on the essays, which are what makes up the class. However, he does make you more comfortable writing. The overall class from day to day is very predictable. Does the same thing all the time.
I will never take this teacher ever again. I felt like I was in first grade again. He has VERY strict requirements for gaining "participation" he holds this participation credit over your head because he knows he doesn't talk about anything important until you write your essay.
I'll just say this: my class was supposed to be 1.75 hours on TTh and he would consistently go over his time limit and take away participation if you left. Do not take his class unless you like 2 hour worthless lectures that leaves you feeling like you've wasted a day.
He will go over topics more than once, but when he does, make sure you remember to do it to your paper. His lectures have a lot of "hidden" meaning and you kind of have to be good at recognizing what he means, and a lot of people do not have that skill. my last 10 page paper: 97.5%, I only missed points because of my APA format, forgot page numbers
Thomas Skeen is the definition of a control freak. He has to be in charge of every discussion, re-iterate everything everyone says, and keep the conversation heading in the direction he wants. If you have an imagination, prepared to be bored to death in his class.
Prof Skeen was an ok. He taught as if it was a high school class, meaning he would go over topics repeatedly. There is a lot of in class participation, pretty much just busy work. The class was fun sometimes. Not clear at all when giving directions but if you ask questions he will help. Overall, not the best teacher but also not the worst.
Gives out 3 papers per semester and practically helps you write them all in class. However, he gives homework daily and is used for random participation points. His class feels like elementary school a lot of the time but he can be helpful if you ask.
Professor Skeen is very kind, however is not very direct with what he wants included in this essays (3 per semester), the class moves slow, and most the time my questions were left unanswered.
Dr Skeen is a good professor overall, I became a better writer and became a more critical thinker. However I feel like he got annoyed by me. Hes cool, but ill really know if i like him when my commentary essay grade comes out. If its an A ill love him.
Dr. Skeen treats you kind of like kindergarteners, it can be really frustrating. He goes through step by step for every essay that is assigned so it's pretty easy. He takes participation every class though, occasionally he takes homework that he assigns for participation.
Dr. Skeen walks you through all the essays, so if you pay attention and do the work, you'll pass with an A. However, classes are boring and some of his habits get annoying quickly
If you have even the slightest technical issues, be prepared to document and screenshot everything before it bites you in the but when you try to explain why you can't turn in your homework due to technical issues with loudcloud that you can't fix on your part as a student.

Assigned seating... In college...
Don't take this class with a friend because there's assigned seating.. be prepared for the most boring class of your life, you'll do the same activities multiple times. He'll say you will have little homework, but you will have a homework assignment every class. Also don't expect him to let you out early, nothing left he will give you useless work
Prof is terrible, he assigns seats, monitors cell phone use, does't progress much in the syllabus, and is overall just a super annoying human being to be around. "lopes up everyone" to get their attention, and is controlling in so many ways. His IA was terrible too, gave me a bad grade and didn't critique my essay, instead repeated instructions.
Skeen's class was the most tedious, prolonged, and dimwitted professor I have taken. Yes, it was an easy A, but the inconsequential class I have attended. If you are enrolled in his English class, be prepared for a fun futile class.
This is the second time I have taken Dr. Skeen's class. Last year was okay but this semester wasn't too great. He is not the most helpful in class. He takes participation daily and assigns homework on the daily even though he said he wouldn't. The homework he assigns is usually not graded. Overall, probably wouldn't recommend the class to anyone.
He is a good guy, but not a good Professor. We do everything over and over again. Participation is a huge part of the grade, so if you skip a class, be prepared to regret it. He is more than willingly to help if you have a problem. Obviously, his IA's will change, but he does not check the grades that the IA gives. If it sucks, you're stuck with it
Skeen is really nice and very understanding. He's always open to helping you with whatever you need help with. However, he tends to treat his students like children and if people are talking he says Lopes up and expects everyone to be quiet, just like how you did in 2nd grade. Very annoying.
I think this professor is a good teacher. He is very nice and is easy to get a hold of if you need help outside of class. He also takes the time to get to know everyone's name in class.
He is a bit of a tougher grader, but overall he is a great teacher. He is kind and helpful, and is very interested in what his students have to say. His lectures are informative and if you go into his office hours he's very helpful. Just do your homework and go to class and you should be fine.
This was the worst class i have ever taken. Skeen assigned too much homework, and classes are completely pointless. He assigns homework and doesn't grade 95% of it, but always takes it when someone doesn't do it. He is a terrible professor, and i am glad this class is over. He is a great person, but not a good professor.
Loved this teacher! He always kept his students engaged throughout the class period! Sometimes it felt pointless to homework that probably wasn't going to be graded, but it was easy to work on other homework during his class period! If you try and do the work, you will get a good grade
He tries to prepare you for the essay with little assignments in class&for homework. This is great at first but confusing later. Still would learn material after draft was due for final essay. He counts participation every day. Easy grader! If you show up to class and attempt essays with correct number of sources and solid content, easy A.
He has a very soothing voice. Homework is assigned usually after class but is graded on completion. No final or midterm (thank god)! I made sure to take ENG 106 with him next semester!
Skeen is a very nice guy but his class takes forever and it feels like we never do anything useful and its just a waste. He gives "fomo" breaks however, everyone is on their phone the whole time anyway. I like him but I would not take his class again.
Long lectures boring class, hes nice though. He gives a lot of homework which i don't agree with in college.
He is an overall nice teacher. His teaching style is very different he wants students to write informally & hardly gives you a template. He gives you time to write portions of your essay during class so you can piece them together later. His "lopes up" is very annoying. No electronics policy. Peer review template is very unhelpful. Very Good Professor Love him and would take him again in a heartbeat. Very clear grading criteria and easy to understand. As writers, we are supposed to conform to different writing styles and he has a writing style which is easy to understand and write as. Love Him ��
Dr. Skeen is an amazing English professor. I had him for 7am and I hated coming to class. But he as a teacher is clear on whats required, you write your papers in class and makes himself available for help. Participation matters at 14% of your grade. I earned A's on all my papers, if you can get him get him!:)
Dr. Skeen is very funny and cares about his students. I had him for a 7 am, and he motivated me to get up and go to class. Be ready for lectures, every class. Do exactly what he asks for papers, and pay attention while he goes over citations. If you don't mind zoning out during class and can write well constructed essay, I suggest taking his class.
I dont understand how Skeen has a 2.9 hes literally the sweetest man I have ever met and he loves teaching English. Yeah, you sit in groups, but its a great way to make friends. All the friends Ive made here, I met in Skeen's class. His class is a breeze and his essays are graded so easily if you just include what he tells you to include. EASYYY A.
I took Professor Skeen my freshman year at GCU. I just graduated a few weeks ago and realized I never got to thank him for how much he helped me. I had no clue how to write a proper essay. With GCU having so many essays, I would have failed out without Skeen's help. He has a desire to help students when they ask for it, he truly cares about you.
He is a very cool easy to talk to professor. Participation is either group work, individual work, name tags, and on occasion homework.
I had Professor Skeen my freshman year, he definitely made a positive impact. He is the kindest professor and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. If you do what is assigned and show up, you will pass.
I had Professor Skeen both first and second semester of my freshman year. Even as a writing major, I can say that I absolutely hated his classes. Skeen himself is nice enough, but as a teacher he is extremely boring and non-engaging. We moved at such a slow pace, and yet were not allowed to move ahead or work ahead on anything. Super frustrating.
His class was both interesting and informative, and I actually really enjoyed it. I had a few essays that I struggled on, but I went into his office hours and spoke to him, and he helped me touch up my essays to the point where I had a high A on every single one. Overall a good human being and a great teacher
Skeen is an amazing person, but a terrible professor. He is not very clear in direction because he is trying to get you to learn on your own, but as a freshman in college this class is a foundation, I believe he should be teaching. We waste a lot of time and he expects your essays to be done extremely well, but he doesn't teach you very well.
Professor Skeen is a very nice guy and his classes are mainly lectures. He doesn't allow electronics in his class. Lectures are long, and fill the entire class period, although he is big on group work. Overall great professor
He is really nice and shows videos from the office to relate with what he is teaching. Just turn in your work and go to class and you will pass.
He is really nice and tries his best to make class fun by playing videos. The class can sometimes be boring and long. He waited too long to tell us what exactly our assignments were on. He gave back great feedback on all papers. I would probably take his class again but online.

I get why people dont like him. He does have a teaching method that makes you feel like youre in 5th grade. There is a lot of group activities and participation does matter alot. However he is one of the nicest people ever and truly cares about his students. If you show up to class and try on your essays youll get an A
Skeen's class was easy because he is VERY clear on what he expects in the paper. It can get boring and seemingly repetitive, but that's what made it so easy. Working in groups was fun, and Skeen is very caring. He would personally get to know our team and everybody in class. Great professor, great class. I got over a 96% on every paper.
Dr Skeen answers any questions you may have. Lots of writing but that's basically the entire class.
He is a nice guy, gives feedback and answers any questions you have. He wasn't clear about the assignments. I did a paper and he lowered the word count, so I slimmed my paper down reasonably. He then CHANGED the word count again to 1,250 after saying we only needed 750 the same week the paper was due. Overall, I got a B show up & pass
Dr. Skeen is one of the best and known English professors at GCU. He makes himself available to students and helps them enthusiastically with anything they need. Yet, his class is not the easy; he gives very detailed instruction and makes them clear in his lectures. I highly promote him as one of the most valuable and effective english professors.
It's an easy class but I felt like I didn't learn anything. He doesn't collect the homework a lot of the time so make sure you get your name on the group work for participation points, because he'll collect that instead.
Dr. Skeen was a very caring and goofy teacher. He does his best to connect with students. He seems to be all over the place but everything he talks about ties into the lesson. Usually I don't like group work but the fact that he put us in groups really helped me to gain a better understanding of the content from my peer's perspective. Love Skeen!

I loved Dr. Skeen!! He was very kind, always showed us funny videos in class, and personally learned each and every one of his student's names. He had 3 sections of my course, each about 100 kids, and he could name all of us. He was very clear with instructions for assignments, even though we only had to write 3 papers in total for his class.
Dr. Skeen had homework almost every night, but it was very simple. Participation points are taken everyday but you are allowed to make them up. He shows lots of videos and really tries to make the class fun. He also makes sure everyone understand the content before he moves on. Great professor!
He will lecture on about nonsense instead of letting the class out 5 minutes early. He has the most monotone voice in the world. Wastes our time when he is not prepared with a PowerPoint by making us constantly write the most basic writing practice. Will make you rip your notes out of your notebook and collect them as "participation."

Dr. Skeen is a really great professor! Some of his assignments seem unnecessary because he repeats things a bunch, but in the end, it's all very helpful for when you write your papers, and even other essay assignments past ENG 105. He makes class really fun and interesting, and there's a bunch of group participation work.
Professor Skeen was not very well organized during lecture and would get distracted by other, non-related topics. Sometimes it felt like a kindergarten class with a seating chart and various in-class activities. He would often write his lecture slides while we were in class. He also over-complicated simple topics, which caused a lot of confusion.
During the semester, Skeen really frustrated me and everyone else I talked to in my class. He is sensitive to criticism, his lectures were tedious and criteria for assignments was never very clear. That being said, as I look back on the semester, I am glad I had him. You do so much writing practice in class, your writing will tremendously improve.
Class is mandatory so you have to attend because a good chunk of your grade is attendance. Rarely have homework. Professor talks about random information in order to fill his entire class time instead of early release. Essay instructions were unclear and confusing.
Mr. Skeen will post exactly 21 PowerPoint presentations, all with multiple mandatory participation activities, before you even turn in your first essay. The participation is useless, (i.e makes you watch episodes of Peppa pig, the office, and friends for no reason). Every time he posts homework i consider dropping out of college out of frustration.

Professor Skeen basically reads off of the PowerPoints given and doesn't really teach much. He has you doing participation throughout the entire class period. It is very tedious and annoying. If you like writing about 700 words per class, then you will probably enjoy this class with Prof. Skeen. Overall, I have not enjoyed it at all.
This class was very difficult as materials were not organized well. Professor jumped from topic to topic randomly, making the class confusing. Participation is required daily with a great deal of work required.

Dr. Skeen is a nice guy. However, his entire class is made up of repetitive busy work that rarely has anything to do with what we are learning/assignments. I have yet to learn anything new in this class. He tends to show random videos of The Office, Peppa Pig, and Star Trek. He tries to compare them to English, but it is confusing.
Skeen was a genuine guy and talked about his family and memorizes all of his students names. I have a few funny videos of him dancing around and trying to make his students laugh. Skeen is funny and understanding. However, his class was primarily PowerPoint reading and practice and was not engaging or interesting. Skeen allows more freedom when writing essays, and is a generally easy grader if you hit all of the points on the rubric. I would recommend Skeen for the easy A, but only if you can overcome the boredom.
Dr. Skeen teaches similar material almost every day, so it gets pretty boring. It seems as if we are given busy work a lot, and for the most part, class feels like a waste of my time. However, Dr. Skeen does care about his students, that is plain to see. He is super nice, but I would not recommend him as a professor.

Easy class, but gets boring because he teaches the same thing over and over again. I had him for both ENG105 and ENG106 and I learned the same things but just wrote different essays. Go to office hours or IA hours to get feedback on your essays and you will get an A. Overall, 7.5/10
Dr. Skeen cares for his students, but he teaches common topics constantly. Participation is required, whether it is your individual notes, group work, or homework. It's one or the other. Attendance is also required, I wouldn't miss his class. Nonetheless, his class is easy, but it is quite boring (and cold). He also assigns homework everyday.
It is so obvious and clear that Mr. Skeen takes his teaching seriously. He is a smart professor and cares deeply about his job! He does do a lot of lectures, however, he makes them super interested and incorporates funny relevant videos! In ENG-105 we only had to do 3 papers throughout the semester and it was not super difficult.
Dr. Skeen is a kind person, but he can be very boring at times, and most of his lectures are repetitive. He also wouldn't clearly give us answers to our questions, and would tell us to "use our tools." I don't think id take him again just because I didn't feel like I learned anything new, and it was easy to space out during lectures.

He was a kind teacher and man, but did not carry out his lessons well. Myself and other students around me were often confused as to how anything he was talking about related to class or what we were supposed to be learning. You also take cornell notes for an hour and a half every class, and they get boring.
Professor Skeen will never fail to make you laugh in the hour and thirty minute lecture. He's very caring and willing to work with you as long as you communicate what you need help with. I would definitely take this course again with him as he was excellent at providing a great education.
I liked him the beginning but then he never gives a straight answer to what is needed in papers. You do Cornell style notes which is apart of his lectures and you turn in to get participation and then you'll have what's needed for your papers, but I never knew the actual right order. Other than that only 3 papers and apa quizzes were online.
