An AWESOME class and a great prof! IMHO you either love him or you hate him because of his humor. Besides his jokes however, I think Sovik is a great prof simple because he explains things well and defines well what you really need to know most. He also doesn't mind cutting up as long as you put forth some effort in his class. True, you can't really be late or absent, but he gives loads of extra credit. And if you get to go with him to Europe, I guarantee it will be the trip of a lifetime.

Dr. Sovik is a character. When I had him for 3020 he wore a cowboy hat. A Way to pass this class? Pay attention! There are no essays, tests are online so he's not watching (hint hint), no quizzes, all he asks of his students is to participate. His jokes are bad, but who cares?! I give him two thumbs up. Enjoy!

I do not recommend taking this class. It has almost nothing to do with music despite the title of the class. The entire class is based off of his own opinion and has said many things that I know for a fact are wrong. Almost everything he says is irrelevant. He is a hard guy to work with and does not care. Despite this it is a pretty easy class.

Dr. Sovik is the most stubborn professor I have had. There's no wiggle room for any grade disputes and he will make fun of your questions in class eluding to you not listening/following directions/wanting to be spoon fed. Half of what he says in class is irrelevant. 90% of the grade is participation, even if you are taking it online.

This class is pretty terrible. He has controversial opinions just for the sake of being controversial. He is very rude and thinks he is the coolest guy in the world. The class should be easy, but it is more of a commitment than a class of its kind should be. Also, it has nothing to do with what you might think it is. It's a history class.

First day of class he lays down the law. He gave us a simple 'follow the directions' type assignment to do that only took a few minutes, and people STILL didn't do it and got dropped. He is EASY. Just participate. He is a interesting person, with interesting stories. I don't think there was a time when I actually was dreading going to his class.

Definitely more effort than an online course usually bargains for, but gaining points is rather easy if you take advantage of all the opportunities and do all right on the tests. (Although, fair warning, if something happens during a test, he won't reset it for you. You'll just have to rely on the final.) Be ready to watch videos and do some work.

Oh my, where do I begin? The Maymester course is only 3 exams, a pre-test, and a sample test and 95% of your answers on the exams come from the online text, not the videos. Sovik is loud, obnoxious, rude, judgmental, and plain annoying. Don't take him unless you have to. If you take Tylenol, he's an easy A, but beware, he is strict.

Watch videos in their ENTIRETY to find exam questions AND attendance calls. You're better off just taking notes from the videos but you will need the tear-out which is in NEW BOOKS ONLY. Videos are posted same day as face2face. DO NOT WAIT more than a week to watch videos because of attendance calls
