A lot of students will say he's hard,he's not. If you take good notes,go to class, and actually pay attention, you can make an A/B.Plus,go in his office and ask to see previous tests,he will let you copy the questions/answers for the final. Half the final is from old tests and a little new stuff.
Lectures a lot! NEED to be there everyday & take good notes. NEED to read a lot (BOTH BOOKS). Mainly tested out of the main history book & notes. TALKS the whole time, does not pause.
Dr. Stephens rules. Lectures constantly with JOKES. Dang. History actually wakes me up in the morning. Be sure to do Essays (25% of grade on tests). Enjoy this class! I sure did.
This guy makes History Interesting! He is an awesome teacher! People like him make you want to learn! Thank you Dr. Stephens, you're the best!
He is an enthusiastic teacher. You can tell he enjoys his job. His flaws are that his tests are very unrelated to his lectures. In our class the average point curve on a test was 20 points. You can take that for what its worth. To sum it up: he is very knowledgeable and a good story teller but not the best lesson planner.
He lectures the whole class period so make sure you can take good notes. His lectures also usually never matched up to the tests, however if you do your readings it will probably help out. History has always come easy to me but this class was actually a challenge. Over half of my class dropped out spring semester '08.
This is not a class to skip or sleep through! Don't miss class, and take GOOD NOTES, because he tests over lectures. You need the books, but they're basically background info to help you understand the lectures. Papers are only a page long; he assigns 3. He tests to see that you understood concepts, relationships between events, not dates. good!
If you can survive until the final, there will be a real shocking twist! READ the two books! He will give 3 small essays from one book, and the other will keep you on top during lecture. There will be a major essay paper over another book, and when he tells you what to write, begin immediately! Tough grader on papers, avg. of 60!
PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS.
Very interesting lectures. Lectures on extra information not in the books, and expects students to have read class material prior to class. Makes history interesting, and actually tells it like it is. Read the material before class. Tests are not easy.
He is a good teacher.. His tests come from his lectures, but he talks very fast and he is very scattered. its tough getting every thing he says down on paper. his test are not easy and his essays are pretty tough. its a lot of reading and a lot of note writing. if you want a challenge take him.
Good Teacher, Explains everything very well. He lectures and just gives test. If you write down the notes you will be fine. You have to write three small essays from a short story in a book. They are easy if you read. good Teacher, he is funny and down to earth. I would recommend taking him.
Very harsh, he'll try to make you look like an idiot when asking questions. He gave me a zero on a major paper because I 1.5 spaced instead of 2.0 spaced, even after visiting him in his office and explaining that I had gotten a new laptop and wasn't used to it, and bringing a NEW copy with the correct spacing. His exams are hard and he grades hard!
I loved doctor Stephens class. He's funny & tries to make the class fun. He's very knowledgeable so ask questions. Take notes. He lectures straight from the book. Reading helps to clarify sometimes but isn't necessary if you take good notes. The books for the papers were kind of slow reads, but still good. He gives quizzes over a few of the ch.
He lectures all class long but sometimes it can be interesting. You have to keep up with him while taking notes because he goes fast. Test are pretty hard if you don't have all the material down. He is a great guy and makes it really interesting. Take him for a challenge!
He is very intimidating at first and you need to write down as much as you can of what he says. Quizzes are very easy. Tests are hard if you dont study. He helped me out ALOT during office hours so if you struggling to keep up make sure he knows who you are and that your trying. overall he is a good professor
This professor is a complete menace. He makes you feel stupid when asking questions, he gives you a quiz's with 1 minute to answer each question and after you place an answer you can not change it. I wrote a paper for him which I had checked by two english profs who said it was perfect mla format and he failed it saying it was not mla.
DO NOT sit up front, you will get sweated on. And don't ask questions...unless is something that is not stupid in his eyes. He thinks that History is your life and you have no other classes to take. He is horrible!! I will never take a history course with a "Dr."
Awesome Teacher, Frekin love this guy. The most interesting teacher ever. His lectures make me want to be a history proffesor. His big tests are over lectures so pay attention in class and you should be fine and weekly quizes online over a book=simple. Essays were a little difficult. This guy changed my life.
I really enjoyed his lectures. Cool guy but his tests are hard. Only made a B because there was a 10 point curve on every exam and I studied like crazy. Challenging but I enjoyed the class.
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. He said as long as you show up to everyclass and listen to my lectures you will pass. His test are so off from his lecture Do Not take his class very hard to much reading and he sweats everywhere!
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. He said as long as you show up to everyclass and listen to my lectures you will pass. His test are so off from his lecture Do Not take his class very hard to much reading and he sweats everywhere!
He was a pretty good teacher. As long as you take thorough notes and pay attention. The quizzed come from the book not from lecture but the tests are 90% notes!
dnt take him!!!!!! worst teacher ever... class too hard n boring
I can't recommend Dr. Stephens highly enough unless you plan to skip class, sleep or ignore the lectures. Take decent notes & do his review sheets-you'll have a B with little effort. He has specific, clear format requirements for papers; variations get 0 (he's upfront about this too). Save MLA for English & follow his instructions.
His tests are pretty hard, you really have to study. but he gives alot of extra credit and he curves your final grade. Do all the extra credit you can.
Do not take this professor! His lectures are really long and he doesn't pause or tell you what is and isn't important. He says his tests are based on lectures but even if you pay really close attention you still don't know stuff on the test. Also don't go to him for help it's a huge waste of time, he doesn't help you at all!
Take this class if you are very good at taking notes, also this class has a lot of reading and he has many papers.
He's really entertaining. Sit in the first couple rows and he'll like you a lot better. Atendance is a must. He picks favorites. He'll help you out a lot if you go talk to him during his office hours. Make sure you follow ALL his directions.
I don't highly recommend Dr.Stephens. He is funny at times but the class can get VERY boring and he does not prepare you for the test at all. You have no idea what to study. If you're not good at taking notes, don't take him.
If you go to class, follow his instructions on homework, take notes, and study for your tests you'll get a good grade. He's super funny. Really enjoied his class. He offers pretty decent extra credit oppurtunities so don't stress if you get lower test grades.
Dr.Stephens is a little tough and doesn't have power points with his lectures. However, he's pretty animated & offers A LOT of extra credit that is very helpful. His tests are somewhat difficult, but the amount you study really reflects the grade you receive. You have weekly quizzes over the textbook and three essays, which are major grade boosters
Very good teacher, offers alot of extra credit, take hold of this oppurtunity and will help your grade alot! quizzes weekly but not to hard. Tests come directly from lecture, so take good notes. Overall, good teacher.
He is a very nice person, but his tests are hard! I recommend doing the extra credit...I didn't and I am regretting it a lot! He has weekely quizzes over what chapter you read in the book that week. They are online quizzes. I thought this class was tough, but I am not a good with classes that are straight lectures.
Dr. Stephens is an excellent History teacher. He knows his information, and it's apparent that he appreciates History. Weekly quizzes on eCampus, 45 minutes to answer 10 questions. Tests are challenging, but related. Plenty of extra credit (it's worth doing it too). Lots of reading involved though.
Funny and is animated during his lectures. Doesn't use powerpoints, so it is important to listen to the lectures and take good notes. Do all of the extra credit. Weekly quizzes and a few easy essays. Very helpful during his office hours. His tests are based on his lectures.
Dr. Stephens class is VERY tough. You have to do ALOT of reading! There are weekly quizzes online though which are pretty simple and he does offer extra credit for the tests. But his test questions don't really relate to his lectures or the book. I'd suggest finding a different professor
Every SUNDAY you have a quiz, if you dont read out of the book you will fail, lectures every class, not real clean on the lectures ether and test are over things out of the book... MY suggest is if it you last choice take him........
Whole class, EVERYDAY, is lecture. Lectures are informative, but he makes them interesting. Unless you remember everything, take notes and never miss class. If you do the work, but hardly study expect a C. Studying hard and taking good notes will give you a B. An A would be quite an achievement. Maybe his FIRST!
Terrible teacher. Has quizzes assigned every Sunday. Offers limited xc. Every class is lecture. Our tests barely cover the study guide, we are just now learning something that was on last tests study guide 2 weeks ago. First test avg was a 41,& the second was a 55. I'm just hoping for a C. I go to every class, take notes, do xc and study very hard.
Great teacher. Just do the work and pay attention. The only way you can do bad in this class is by not going to class or not doing the work. Every test is curved if he sees that you put effort into it. Quizzes every Sunday but they aren't due until Tuesday and its basically open-book.
This is a really hard class. If you miss a class it is extremely hard to get caught up. The tests are almost impossible to study for. He gives limited extra credit. He really knows his stuff and is really good at lecturing.
He scares the crap out of me, but hes a good prof. You do need to pay attention and go to class everyday. Tests are hard, weekly quizzes are straight from the book. He's keep class interesting. Offers a lot of extra credit, that's why I passed. You need to study a lot for every test, not an east A class
Dr. Stephens is a professor I appreciate. Well informed, he not only knows his history cold but he is passionate about it. Lectures are entertaining but non-stop. He can be lured off onto tangents which serve as unofficial breaks. As much as I liked him however, he can be misunderstood if you don't look past his somewhat course way of interacting.
Initially comes off as an angry man, but this is mostly to scare off students looking to slack through the class. Loves the topic of History and so is very excited in class. Is also very open to discussion. Exams are based off the lectures, and so long as you pay attention, you'll be fine in the class.
Class is very HARD!! Class lectures are interesting he is very good at telling the story but test and quizzes don't match anything from lecture. Love him as a person but the class was to hard for me
one of the hardest classes i've taken so far. I've spent more time reading for this class more than all my other classes. that includes every page of the textbook and extra readings and studying the online quizzes. Only way to pass is to do that and do all the extra credit and ace every single quiz. test averages are low 50's and are ridiculous
Great guy, he goes off on side stories to make it fun, cool to talk to outside of class, if you have a problem he'll help you, exams are from lectures, prepare to read A LOT. Seems intimidating the first week but that's to scare off the slackers, he's actually pretty funny once the semester is in full swing. Take if you like lecture based class.
HARDEST class ever. i thought that since it was history class, any prof that I got I would make an A. When a test does roll around, noting on the test is what he covers. He usually covers what was on the test after the test. It was a constant struggle and he was actually kind of scary too:( I never rate profs, but i really wanted warn you.
I LOVED Dr. Stephens, the first day of class he makes it a point to let you know that he is not there to be your friend. He is very tough, but he gives extra credit options for every test, quizzes are open book, and he gives a study guide. I did not read much for this class and pulled a high B.
WORST TEACHER EVER! Seriously, this man is so rude! He sucks at his job and if you go to ask him for help or clarification he is very rude and calls you out in class. I WISH I COULD GET HIM FIRED! If you only make one smart decision in your life, choose to not take this professor!
the professor makes his lectures interesting so class is never boring. His tests are straight from his lectures. However, he is the rudest teacher I've ever met. His online assignments contradict them selves in the directions, and he WONT explain something to you if he believes its a stupid question; every question is a stupid question.
The students on here that are complaining about the difficulty of the tests and the rudeness of the teacher were very obviously the 75% of the class that slept and didn't pay a hoot of attention. GREAT Prof. All you have to do is pay attention in lecture and remember to do the simple weekly quizzes and you can pull an easy A+.
I do not recommend this teacher to anybody. You had reading to do every night. He didn't follow what you were reading at home. I don't even know what his tests were over, seriously. Don't take him.
Literally the worst history class I've ever taken. I would never recommend this teacher to anybody. He doesn't follow anything and this is coming from someone who read every single night, did every quiz, and every extra credit.
He can be rude sometimes but he's very funny and makes class entertaining. You have the opportunity to 10 pts extra credit every test, only a few 1 paged essays, and a quiz every week that can be answered using the book. He doesn't ask for much. Make sure you show up to class or get notes from someone else. Tests are kind of hard, make sure study
He really makes you work for your grade. Defiantly not an easy A.
He's very wise and funny! I like going to his class to here his outlook. He is all lecture though no power point and he doesn't go over what he is talking about. The reviews are rarely like the yes HOWEVER if you actually pay attention and keep up with the books its not that hard. Essays are EASY. The test he sometimes gives curves up to 20%!
Dr. Stephens is a great professor. He really cares about what he's teaching and will you give pointers, especially when asked. You can't fall asleep in his lectures because they are that good.
all he does is lecture every class. there are no power points to follow along with so it makes it a little more difficult. the essays are pretty easy and he gives a 20-30% curve on every test which has saved me big time. oh and there's an online quiz every week which you can find the answers to on quizlet.
I took his 1301 class my first semester in college and I absolutely loved him. If you are easily offended I would steer clear of him, but he is very passionate about what he teaches. I liked him so much that I took him for 1302 as well. He was a naval history professor at A&M so a lot of his material is geared towards that. My favorite professor.
Use the study guide he provides on ecampus so you can follow his class lecture or else you will lost, he expects you to do the out of class readings but I never did, took him for History 1301 &1302. Just pay attention in class and go over your notes for test. And the online quizzes you can find them on quizlet, easy 100s.
Interesting and passionate lectures, if you pay attention. Take notes and read the material and you will pass this class, the papers that are assigned are short and as long as you follow the instructions you will pass. If you need his help just show up to his office hours and he will help on anything. Not a rude person, just passionate.
He is very arrogant (he's a Dr.) so expect him to make jabs about students being dumb and what not. DON'T be late, he will call you out in front of the entire class and make sure you are embarrassed. His lectures are long and boring, most kids fall asleep, but make sure you stay awake and take notes because his tests come straight from those!
I knew straight up that this would be a long semester with this guy. His weekly quizzes are easy, you can find them all on Quizlet. During class the man just runs his mouth for an hour and however many minutes, and that is ALL he does. If you have a question you're better off looking it up because he will make you look stupid in front of everyone.
I hate hate hate this class. Dr. Stephens is a good guy but I cannot stand his lectures. Literally talks for the whole hour and 15 minutes. It's strictly note taking from his lectures. Easy quizzes every week that are on quizlet, essays from one of the readings, but the tests are hard. If you're a visual learner I would not take his class.
Don't take the class, even if it is a last resort. The only reason people make A's on the tests is because they have the answers. Class average on tests has never been above a 70. He is a very strict grader on the extra credit & it's very hard to get full point on the EC. Lecture content does not correlate to the tests. Tests are hard.
This class is super hard and not fun to be in at all unless you are truly in love with the subject. He is a great guy, funny, and all but that doesn't make up for his test being ridiculously hard. He does offer a whole letter grade of extra credit, however it's hard to make perfect scores on those. I do not recommend at all. No visuals, just notes
Dr. Stephens is a very fun guy and tries to make the class as entertaining as possible, but if you really don't love the subject the class gets pretty dull. His tests are hard and studying for them is rough, but he curves very generously because no one passes his tests. He does off a whole ton of extra credit. Expect a B or C
His online quizzes can all be found on Quizlet. He assigns 3 short papers which aren't bad. You will need to do good and these in order to have a decent grade. His lectures are long and are not consistent with the test. He is extremely condescending and rude. Sit towards the back if you don't want him in your face. I would avoid taking him.
Can be cool but can also be very rude. Test are hard but all quizzes are online. 3 short papers that are fairly easy. Lectures don't correlate with test
Dr. Stephens is a really good professor. There's quizzes that are all online, a lot of extra credit, 3 short papers, and exams over his lectures that are easy to follow with the study guide he gives. He is extremely passionate about the topic and is quite funny as well. He curves the tests. There is a book to read but it's an easy letter grade.
Dr. Stephens is one of the worst professor I've ever had. He is passionate about history and that is very clear, but the lectures are long and he does not give test reviews. He just expects you to memorize everything, won't even give a hint about what to expect. Avoid if at all possible.
Although it is tough to get past his condescending demeanor, he is quite fair. Once you get the hang of his lectures and how you like to take notes for him (I recorded him and listened back if I thought I missed something) then his tests are pretty straight forward and from the lectures. But that's it. No power points, no study guides.
Once I got past the first few weeks of Dr. Stephens class, I began to really enjoy him. It's evident that he loves history, and as someone who hates the subject, I feel as though he presents the material in a way that makes one enjoy it.
Lectures are long and boring, lectures just off of his words so you don't know what to write and what's irrelevant. Tests are hard but EC is offered each time and 3 EC quizzes at the end. Weekly quizzes can be found on quizlet. He's very condescending and not helpful if you have questions. 1 research paper w/ strict directions and tough grading.
Only class I ever dropped, had a 4.0 when I dropped him. He does really boring lectures, lots of stuff he says is never on the test. He made one project worth 15% of the class grade and the best grade on it was a 70. He is rude. His scantron screwed up once and he gave us a curve to make up for it, but even with it, I lost points that I deserved.
You HAVE to show up to class and you HAVE to take notes. He lectures the entire hour and 15 minutes, but is interesting and isn't boring. Do the quizzes online since they're all on Quizlet, STUDY for the exams or you will not pass them. I got a 36% the first exam and then got a 98% on the second, so it takes some time to transition to his exams.
My first day with Dr. Stephens, I hated the guy. He seemed very rude and intimidating. After a couple of weeks he softened up and i grew to like him a lot! He is a very tough grader on tests, but he also gives a lot of quizzes and they are all o quizlet.
He is a solid choice for a first history. He does not allow computers, therefore all notes must be taken by hand. He is very condescending and sarcastic while telling history which I found extremely funny. His exams are everything on review, study that you should make good grades. Has one paper that you just have to follow the format and do good.
Professor Stephens is pretty sarcastic and can be pretty rude at times. There are multiple quizzes online, which the answers are on quizlet. The tests are really hard and they don't really follow his lectures. However he does give a lot of extra credit/curves.
Quizlet is your new best friend.. hes a great prof and you can tell he really loves what he teaches. Lectures really arent that bad in my opinion, they go by fast because he is such a cool guy.
He tests exactly what he teaches but he teaches well. I learned a lot about boating and ship building along the way. Quizlet will help you, and you just need to take notes. 1 paper, the format is the hardest part.
His lectures are interesting and even though he talks the whole time he catches your attention but once you get the test, his lecture has nothing to do with the actual questions so you might as well read and do your own notes. He was very sarcastic which was fun at first until you ask him something and he ends up being rude and bored with your ?'s.
Many students might not find him appealing, since he's a lecture-heavy professor who doesn't use Powerpoints. Additionally, he's a rather loud and aggressive teacher/rule enforcer, almost akin to a military man, which may scare others off. I, however, appreciated the extra challenge posed by having to listen carefully to the lectures.
This was the hardest A I have ever had to earn. I studied for over a week for the final and still made an 89. However, he did bump me. With that being said, he is a fair grader, and his lectures aren't to dull. I recommend making flashcards over the material. There is also extra credit for every test. If you have good study habits you'll do fine.
He can be really funny during his lectures. Would be nice if he had power point to follow along, but he only uses his notes. Papers are extremely standardized, offers extra credit on tests and usually curves if there is a bad test average. Overall he is okay.
I'll admit, he can be funny at times, however, his tests are EXTREMELY hard. He takes the most useless information about the topic and puts it on the test making it very difficult to study. He offers extra credit and only curves when he has to. His papers will make any student die. Attendance is required and does not waiver it. Don't take him.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! He does not care about his students and does not care if you fail his class. Tests are extremely hard and it is impossible to get A's on his essays. He stands at the front lecturing for 1.5 hours and he does not give you visuals. Just don't put yourself through the pain I went through.
very rude, talks about stuff not even on the test, dont take this class
Don't count on a curve because if someone makes a 100 there won't be one. Offers up to 10pt extra credit for each exam, DO IT! There's also 1 essay which is kinda hard so definitely ask questions. Final is cumulative but its all questions from previous exams so go to office hours and see exam. I made an A but had to work for it.
I regret taking his class. It's too easy to fall asleep during lectures; sitting close to the front doesn't help. Also, his instructions for an essay were unclear to me, and to make things worse, I forgot about it until the week it was due. My stress turned to serious burnout which affected my other classes. Sorry, but I may drop him for my sanity.
Dr Stephens is highly intimidating and blunt. He has high expectations and does not tolerate anything less. The class is test heavy and reading heavy. There are weekly quizzes based on specific trivia points from the text. The exams are easier but still challenging.
Very fun class- took hi for 1301 and 1302 and sat front row. He's always willing to answer questions and help you out. Just put in the effort and you'll be okay. (Tests are on quizlet, too)
I'm currently taking this class right now and am REALLY struggling. He lectures for an hour + with no visuals (powerpoints, notes, etc.) to go off of. He is extremely blunt and doesn't care if he hurts your feelings. His tests often don't pertain to what he lectured. Please save yourselves and don't take this class with this professor.
If you like history and reading then maybe you will like this class. His tests are extremely hard and the questions are specific so studying only helps a little bit. He doesn't use powerpoints or anything visual. He does give extra credit which is a must do. If you show him that you care and are trying then he is willing to work with you.
very difficult prof. take a different instructor if possible. expect the exams to not have anything to do with the textbook. write down everything he says and study your notes well. he doesn't allow you to type notes so hope you can write quickly. his reviews don't help. quizzes are online apparently. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I would say dont take this class but if you have to then dont worry about it. This class is tough but if you read the book you should do fine on the tests. Quizzes are on quizlet! The Historical Methods paper is gonna be an L, accept it. READ THE BOOK!!
good professor not difficult if you study, you have to read one book and write one paper and there are 3 tests and a final. Tests are not difficult and if you do the essays format correctly you will make a good grade. Ecampus quizzes are all on quizlets
Weekly online quizzes. Answers on Quizlet. Easy 100% 2 Major Projects. Did them both 2-3 days before with an A. Lecture heavy. You can't avoid this. It's history. Take good notes and read the book. You'll get a B or C on his tests. He curves heavily. If you don't study you'll fail but he curved between 12-25 points each test this semester.
There are 3 tests plus the final, and they are all so specific to what he says in lecture. I stopped reading the textbook after the 1st test when I realized all of the questions were based on his own words. PAY ATTENTION. Start on the 1 essay as soon as its assigned. Don't plan on asking about the directions because he will say read them again.
worst professor ever very hard very strict and boring don't take this class
Dr. Stephens means well, but it seems he absolutely hates his job and his students as a whole. No powerpoints, no handouts, or visual aid at all. Reviews are vague, test are over what he says in class and NOT THE BOOK so listen carefully and take adequate notes. Test are the hardest I've ever taken. May God be with you in this endeavor.
Im not sure why everyone complains about this prof. Tests are word for word on quizlet and youll get a good grade on the paper if you make a solid attempt at it. In my opinion this is an easy A class. He can rude and unapproachable but only to people who do not show effort.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Historical methods paper VERY unclear. He is also very rude! When you have a problem he doesnt give you an answer and even is sarcastic and demeaning about it.
LOTS of easy extra credit (10 points on each test). He gives a study guide for each test - pay close attention to the terms there, nothing else matters. Easy tests. DON'T miss class, he will not give you the notes. Lecture based - no slides. Textbook not really necessary, quizzes are online & on quizlet. The paper is HUGE but he grades kindly.
He's great! If you come to class and pay attention, you will make an A. The only issue is when people do not try and skip class. He will call you out but thats your own fault. His quizzes are easy and his exams are easy if you pay attention and review. He only has bad reviews because some people are lazy.
Making lecturer and amazing guy! This man simply does his job and does it right. Any bad rating for him is more about the student than the teacher. He is an excellent instructor. I learned more taking him for 1301 and 1302 than I did in all of public school history. Id often be grateful excited to attend his class!
All the Tests are on quizlet. When you do the Puritan Dilemma assignment you dont even need to read the whole books. Everything you need to know is in the lectures dont get the textbook. . He says alot of unnecessary information and says anything thats important too fast enough for anyone to write down
If you sit farther than 5 rows back, you wont hear half of his lecture. He reads important information thats on the test so fast that you dont have time to write it down, and then talks about unrelated things for 5-10 min at a time. His directions are very demanding and if you dont follow them 100%, you are failing that assignment... not a joke
He stands at the front of the room and reads from notes or textbook, he does NOT use a powerpoint, pictures, or, video for reference.
This professor teaches at a university level for a junior college, if you do not have 3-5 hours available after class to devote every day for this class, do not take. Death by lecture with zero interaction with class, no questions asked nor answered. Lacks professionalism, human interaction, very unorganized, he should be a tour guide at a museum.
This professor only had 15 min online classes twice a week and then had 8 hours of lecture per week. never spoke about any of the material during the class periods. super tough grader. there is a lot of extra credit available. The lectures are the only way to know what is on the tests and they are brutal.
Prof wasn't helpful & loves to hear himself talk. He talks all period about random things in history w/no visual aids & gets off topic often. His lectures r all online & almost 2 hrs long & you have to watch 4-5 a wk. If you dont watch the lectures you wont pass the tests- ppl barely pass the tests b/c his study guides are unspecific and useless.
Be ready to hear him talk all the time. In person and online lectures that are time consuming. Tough grader and full of himself. I am majoring in History, this is the worst professor I have ever had.
you do all work outside of class all he does during class is talk and doesn't use any visuals like PowerPoint. Online quizzes are easy but the test not so much. makes you watch 3-5 lectures outside of class every week, 2 quizzes a week, 3 tests, essay, and final. He's not the nicest and a little bit scary. I barely passed
Dr. Stephens is one of those professors that is prideful in his doctorate degree. He does not want students to do well in his class because he is already smarter than all. He will not answer emails over the weekend or late at night because he "has a life too". I ended up with a 69 in his class and retook it with a diff prof and made an A.
he's not kidding when he says his class is another job. i spent about 4 hours every night doing hw for his class (daily lectures are an hour long but you have to take notes in order to pass the exams so it takes about 3 hours to get through a lecture). start the reading assignment early and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
Ignore the good reviews. If you want a life outside of this class, don't take it. He is extremely unclear, and a lot of his study guides are not accurate with the information tested. He rambles a lot. Thinks he is the coolest person ever and you should feel blessed to be listening to him. Good Luck if you're looking for simple terms.
By far the worst professor I have taken at Blinn. By the end of the 8 weeks maybe 1/3 of the class remained. He takes his class way too seriously and treated his class terribly. There is at least 10+ hours of videos outside of class a week. I retook the class with a different professor for 1301 and 1302 and got A's. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I personally loved Stephens as a prof. He was very funny but this 8-week blended class is online lecture heavy. These were absolutely brutal (4 per week on average, ~50mins each). In-class time was pointless, bring questions. Take good notes on the lectures, use his study guides. Lots of extra credit (whole letter grade). Tough paper grader.
The worst professor I have ever had. This is my second year at Blinn, and I have never experienced a professor so unprofessional. He is rude and makes his class unnecessarily hard. If you are required to take a history class, and he is the only professor available, you are better off waiting for another professor next semester.
This class is no walk in the park - expect to spend a lot of time on the lectures and readings. However, the professor offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Using unstuck study along with the provided study guides can really help ace the exams.
Literally such a hard professor, USE HIS STUDY GUIDES. Only way you will do well on exams, as well as use your textbook. This class was very time consuming and you have to work for the A. He is very helpful in office hours. Very forward.
he is extremely difficult, he tells you at the beginning that you'll have to do 12 hours a week outside class to work on his stuff and he's not lying, I would spend almost every day studying and taking notes for at least three hours. I ended up with a 79 and I have never been so upset at a grade. don't take him.
You have to rely on what he tells you for the exams, but even he is not sure what to stick to when talking. He doesn't have a clear plan of what he's going to lecture about he just talks. When asked if we could find definitions in the text book, he said no. He doesn't post instructions on line for assignments and paper so beware.
He is a big talker not a lot of discussion going on in class but the only things graded are quizzes, tests, and one essay (all not honor locked) he has extra credit for everything and probably the most knowledgeable prof ive had in history. TAKE HIM!!
He comes off as mean at first, but as you keep going to class, you'll realize he's just very invested in his job. I was scared of him in the beginning, but towards the end,I enjoyed going to his class. When he lectures,he uses humor to make it interesting. He scares you by saying he grades tough, but from what I experienced, he isn't so bad.
You have to listen to every word he says because he does not post power-points or his lectures online. I literally had no idea what he was talking about the entire time in class. He does have extra credit opportunities but it is so much work for such a little boost in your grade. He's also rude and makes you feel dumb for asking questions.
