Assignments seem to be busy work. only collects a few assignments. He is not pationate

This professor grades hard,his expectations are high on papers,its not your typical 150 class, i have had a lot of stress with this class, get a different professor if you can.

He is a realy bad teacher. I would recommend to take a different teacher. He told me to go to the Wirting Center, tell them an bilingual and for them to correct all my language errors. Yes, am mexican but I have know english all my life. I dont speak spanish often. So, I don't know what he was thinking.

This Professor was terrible. He doesn't seem to care what grade you get @ all. He tells you one thing and does another. Take another Professor in my opinion. Good Luck if you do have him though.

He was horrible. His essay topics were hard to understand and would not clarify much. He gave a lot of homework assignments out of the book and they were due within a short amount of time. He would give them when there was an essay to be worked on as well. The best thing about the class was reading week, when you did not have to attend class.

Very unclear. Does not explain instuctions for the essays well. Some of the essay questions were stupid.I got an A- in the class but I should have gotten an A, I went to many of his office hours it was useless. If you are a good writer he strips your uniquness away.PLEASE LISTEN DONT TAKE STOEFFER!Horrible Proffessor!!!

Very arrogant professor, his critques on your papers make you feel inferior. The assignments are out of the book other than the three major papers, but he is very unclear with what he expects from you and it is never good enough. I don't recomend his class online or lecture.

Horrible teacher. picky. rude. he commented on one of my papers poorly written on a poor topic that i didn't approve. i got all A's in high school and in AP english. no help what so ever and difficult unless you're his favorite. total crap

By far the worst professor I have ever had. It seems he when he gives you an assignment he changes it then when you work your assignment into what he changes he grades you on what he originally assigned.

By far one of the worst professors I have EVER had. He changes assignments after you have already turned them in and is absolutely no help when it comes to questions. Will tell you that you are on the right track on your research paper but when you get it back he doesn't like anything that you did regardless if you followed his advice.

Awful professor! Very unclear on assignments, and gives very negative feedback. He criticizes you on every little thing you do wrong and will mark you down many points for it. I ended up with a B in his class but I worked my butt off for it. He is no help at all, and only just tells you to read the book (even if you did and still need help)

WORST TEACHER ON FERRIS STATE CAMPUS. HE IS RUDE, AND SPEAKS TO OTHERS WITH NO RESPECT. I HAVE REPORTED HIM MILLIONS OF TIMES WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN THE 4 YEARS OF MY STUDIES.

Save yourself the stress and do not take him! He is unclear on everything, and the only thing he makes clear is that everything has to be perfect. No matter how hard I tired on assignments he would only give me low C's. If you can, take someone else or be ready to rip your hair out.

Tough grader, very unclear what it is he expects, which makes getting a decent grade difficult. Very late returning grades and feedback, doesn't leave much time to learn what he expects before the next assignment comes due. Avoid if possible!!

If taken online, the only teaching the instructor does is directing you to read the entire textbook. Ask a question and the professor's answer will always be, " consult the textbook." The professor is not clear regarding what he expects and grades very harshly. Typos will get you a failing grade. Avoid, avoid, avoid if possible.

Horrible teacher. He doesn't even teach. He lets to book teach for him, read it carefully and memorize it. This is supposed to be a class that you learn, he is a horrible grader. If you write an A paper expect to get a C. Would never take a class with him again.

This class is a very general english class, but taking his class online is awful. He doesn't clarify ANY of his assignments you have to figure it all out on your own. He doesn't teach ever, his required text book does. He is a VERY tough graders. If you are not completely confident with your writing ability don't take his class, you will struggle.

He is very unclear in all of his directions, which are scattered all over the place online. He grades ridiculously hard on small things that should only drop you a few points, and he is very rudely blunt. For a student who's never gotten below an A-, I am struggling in this class (below a 70 on every assignment) Avoid this prof at all costs.

Stoffer is a tough teacher, thinks highly of himself and his educational background. He teaches a class about business writing, tone, etc, yet his emails and FAQ posts scream at you with ALL CAPS and a bit of a nasty tone.

This class was only difficult because of the professor. He grades very harshly and it's almost impossible to get a perfect score on anything. His instructions are never clear, and if you have a question, he will direct you to the book. Avoid taking English 325 with Stoffer if you can.

Stoffer grades his papers way to hard for the very little direction he gives you. He tells you everything that you cannot write in your papers, but never actually says what you are supposed to write. In his comments on my last paper, he said he liked how I wrote the report but it was missing some data. So he knocked me down to 76/100 for the report

It was difficult. Very hard grader and doesn't give much detail on what he wants on each paper. My grades varied from a 30/100 to 99/100. Unpredictable. I ended with a c+ in the class. Do not reccomend. I think he means well but his comments are neither helpful nor constructive and actually hurt my feelings once ):

Easily one of the worst professors I've ever had. He's a self-proclaimed "fussy" professor who tells you exactly what not to do, but nothing else. He makes a class that could be very informative and helpful essentially useless. Avoid this professor at all costs!

He's the type of professor who gets off by not handing out A's- this means if you follow the guidelines, read the book, and spend hours on his assignments, you still better not expect to get the grade you earned. And don't ask for advice, he will only tell you to "read Kolin" (the book). You will learn nothing & ruin a good GPA. Take someone else.

Stoffer is a real gem. Like everyone here has said, I agree he grades very hard. He will tell you to consult Colin (the text) each time you ask for guidance on something and mostly that is on structure and format that he fails to make clear on what he wants. I mean I am a solid writer and I barely made it through this class with a C. Avoid him!

Awful. Learned nothing the textbook is ancient

Unless you are a PERFECT writer dont take this class. No real guide is given. You are just told to look over your work and refer the text book. Very rude.

I have carried a 3.8 GPA all throughout college. I am in my last semester and I am BARELY passing this class. I thought I was a good writer until I took this course. He grades very harsh and gives no actual description as to why. Like everyone else has mentioned, you can work hours on an assignment and not know what to expect for a grade.

He is a difficult grader, comments are incredibly condescending and degrading. He grades incredibly difficult, and marks you down for silly things. If your work doesnt incorporate material from the textbook, zero. He also does not work with students, just says read the book or google it. With I would've read reviews before taking him.

He grades so HARD. I work hard hoping to get an A, and I have yet to receive one. He loves to change the instructions or rubric a day before the assignment is due. He is not fair at all. I am an A student and he is HORRIBLE. Will tell you, you did the assignment all good but then grade you down. Only plus side to him is there are no discussions!

He is the worst teacher for English. I am an all A student and he gave me a C- overall. I would never take this teacher ever again. He ruined my GPA. He also doesn't allow rewrites and if you don't get the book, good luck trying to pass the class.

I usually don't trust input on ratemyprofessors, but this time I definitely should've looked before taking the class. As everyone else has stated, the grading criteria is almost non-existent. You get marked down for not including information you weren't instructed to provide in the first place. Have to feel important somehow I guess...

He is terrible gives vague descriptions than hand s it to you like your an idiot! I did not pay.1200 to get talked down to! Shut up and grade the assignment in a timely manner! Get it over with. Why is this a 16 week class in the summer? Tell me that because he needs two weeks to grade an assignment? This is the same things I wrote in Business Comm

One of the worst professors I've had at school. Grades super hard and major assignments every other week. Assignment descriptions are awful and provides little feedback when asking questions. I worked hard and asked questions and felt almost bad or rude because of the responses I would get back. Most frustrating part was bad explanations.

I had straight As until this professor. Seriously, read these reviews. Worst professor I have ever had, and I cant believe I had to pay for this class. His assignment instructions are confusing, and takes 3-4 weeks to grade things. He will also NOT tell you what you exactly did incorrectly on a paper, just that he found errors. What a joke.

Rude. Not informative. And if you ask for guidance, they will only tell you to refer back to the textbook by Kolins. Expect this professor to completely butcher your GPA. I currently have a C in this class. Hoping it won't drop anymore :(

grading is incredibly unclear, knocks points off for random reasons, confusing feedback. assignments are confusing and don't relate to the class. our final paper was about Michigan birds, this is a professional business writing class. emails back fast but doesn't help clarify. this class was genuinely painful to take.

The reviews are all true. 4 major projects and you will fail if you do not do them all,you NEED the textbook, its really the one that teaches you. No lectures, no videos, no guidance but all the rules. You are expected to read a 200 word document of your assignment and magically understand what it means with only that as refrence.

This professor is the toughest grader I've encountered while attending college. She is very unclear in her feedback and will knock off points without fully explaining why. She will give you a 100 but with rude feedback. For someone who is EXTREMELY picky with grammar, number of words, format, etc...her instructions are unclear and full of typos.

Just a terrible professor overall, his assignment are unclear and he grades terribly. Do not take a class w him, that should be last resort.

Unclear directions yet tough grading. Marks citations wrong even when using citation generators - did not explain how the citation was wrong but threatens giving zeroes. Zero education from professor, only gives and grades assignments. Everyone did so bad on the first assignment extra credit was given in the first week of class.

This professor is an extremely tough grader and for someone who teaches English, their assignments are filled with mistakes. They give you an extremely short description of the assignment and then just expects you to know exactly what to do. I reached out and asked for help and they told me to contact IT or a librarian. You have to teach yourself.
