a good teacher, easy to get along with, very helpful in class
Tom was a very good instructor. He made everything easy to understand and explained everything in detail. He gave homework problems out of the book after every class and that really helped to understand everything. He even allows a front and back page cheat sheet for every exam and you can put anything you want on it.
Mr. Wells was great! He is a very nice guy and he truly cares about his students. I would recommend his class to anyone who wants to learn and does not want to be bored in doing it. He is humorous and lighthearted. He makes extra time to teach anyone who is struggling and he loves what he does so he is good at it. He helps make learning math fun!
He is a great teacher who cares about you. He is funny and allows you to express yourself so that you're not sitting there bored. He wants to be informed on the things that you are struggling with so that he can clear things up. He goes beyond the call of duty. I highly recommend his class but I suggest you take MTH 097 first. MTH 119 has graphing!
Tom is clear, concise and conscientious. He expects you to know your stuff, but will help in any way possible...best math teacher i've ever had. I actually like math now.
Tom was great....light-hearted and funny with crystal clear explanations. He is hard, but you don't mind, because he has an ability to teach the base theories deeply even to folk who don't like anything but the surfacy explanations. I learned more how to think mathematically from him than any other teacher. I feel ready for Math 162!
Mr. Wells made math interesting. Believe me it is not an easy class but now that I have taken him I am going to take him for 162 and major in MTH at a 4 year. He has opened my world of mth. He is a great guy and awsome teacher. Highly recommend him.
he was a cool guy and really tried to help people learn math.
Tom was the best math teacher I have ever had. He made math really interesting and explained everything really well. Did fun things in class like "math magic" to keep class fun. I would take him again for any math class!!
Excellent teacher...fair, funny, clear, helpful (he even schedules extra help sessions). He cares about students and when asked a question, suspends material to make sure people know what;s going on.
very good
Funny, knows his stuff...cares alot for students, fair...hard but teaches clearly and makes class light-hearted at the same time. There is also alot of time for practice during the class period so that it isn't all lecture. Take this guy...innovative style of humor.
Mr. Wells is a WONDERFUL instructor!!! He has made a major impact in my life that I will remember always. It is because of this teacher that I am 100% convinced that becoming a College Level Math Instructor is my career goal. I took him for Math 097, 119, and I will take him for 151 too. AWESOME GUY!! REALLY CARES ABOUT STUDENTS!! NOT BORING!!!!!!!
Good teacher...explains why knowing stuff can help you with future math courses... gives study tips and explains things well looking out to see if folk look confused or not...highly recommended...not easy, but fair.
Funny and thorough. I had a good time and learned alot of math.
He is the most awesome math teacher I have ever had. Makes math really fun and interesting to learn! Extremely smart and is very very fair at grading, I wish all my professors were like him. Take this teacher if you can!
An amazing teacher. He really know's what he's talking about and lectures with clarity. WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! As long as you do your homework, you'll be fine! Great guy, always willing to help.
great class and entertaining. I really struggled in this class, but after awhile starting to really feel inspired to work harder because of Mr. Wells. The class isn't easy at all, but he does a great job of explaining clearly and clearly cares
Great...
I like this teacher alot. The class period is a marathon 3 hour session, but mr. wells is very clear and really gets excited about math which makes class better. He's fair on tests and shows up early to answer questions.
Made math fun with puzzles and magic stuff, and explained things simply with alot of worksheets to get practice in class...all around great guy and easy on the eyes
Tom is a great teacher! His tests/quizzes may not be super easy, but if you study and do the homework you'll do fine. He holds extra review sessions before class and is good about answering questions. I would definitely take him again, and just might for Calc III.
Tom is an excellent teacher..Class was in the summer and long class periods, but he made it much easier to sit through...fair grader even though tests were tough. Highly recommend him...oh, and he's funny.
Tom cares. His style is unique for sure in a really good way. it keeps you interested. Every time you go to class, you'll get some insight about math that goes farther than normal for a math class. And his stories about his kids are funny.
Really bright guy, funny, does card and dice tricks that are based on algebra, fair tests, clear.
Tom is a great teacher! I don't love math but it was my favorite class because he makes math fun. Does card tricks and math magic to switch things up every now and then. Tests are fair and easy compared to the material in the book. If you do the homework and take good notes you will get a good grade with no problem!! I highly recommend him!
I really like Tom...DO YOUR HOMEWORK though! Daily quizzes are a tad annoying, but they do help you to stay on top of stuff.
if you do your homework you will do just fine in the class. he does do board work, and that I found very helpful
LOVE this guy. hes nice, fun and funny. he is a good teacher but does mover very fast and a little hard to follow at time, thats his personality. i get the foundation in class of what we are doing but really kind of teach it to myself after or before. over all awesome guy
great teacher...funny and gives good lectures. Has everyone up a few times during class all at once to do practice on the board. That really helps you get material down. Take this guy
fun teacher. He gets you up to the boards all at once which gives you good practice. He keeps things laid back. His tests are little too hard, but he grades fairly. I'll try to get him again.
He's a cool guy and has funny stories but I struggled a lot in this math class. I was at the top of my class in high school and after working my butt off in the tutoring center all the time, I still only passed this class by 1%. He wants to help but thinks that math comes as easily to everyone else as it does to him. Optional homework.
Great stories and explains things clear. I like all the work we do in class with other people. It keeps things moving.
Very interactive with the class. Board work everyday. It was scary at first, but ended up making the class easier.
He is good!!!
He keeps you interested and breaks it down to be simpler. He has you work on problems for alot of the class which keeps it more interesting. He cares about students learning.
Very entertaining lectures. Relates math to his real life experiences. Keeps it interesting. Very helpful and encouraging toward everyone. Doesn't hurt that he's funny & easy on the eyes!! Really wish I could get him for Trig!
Very helpful, excellent teacher i would recommend this teacher to anyone. i personally do not have to go any further than 097. however if i did i would for sure take 119 with tom
Tom was a great teacher. He was laid back, did many examples and had us working and doing stuff in class to make it less boring. I would for sure take him again and I might in the fall if I can.
AWESOME.
This was my 2nd time taking this class, but he explained it way more better than the other teacher I had. He will help you with your homework if you need the help. Make sure you do all the homework he assigns because chances are they will be on the exam. I will recommend this teacher to anyone who is taking a Math class.
Great teacher, very helpful. If you have a problem, ask him and he will help you so you understand it.
tells fun stories. very very smart man. knows everything to do with math and helps a lot. homework is all online!
Great teacher...keeps class relaxed and grades fair. Explains stuff simply.
Hilarious...quotable guy..his explanatins are great!
I had Wells as an online teacher for a MTH 097 online. He never replies back to my questions and is not too clear on what he wants. I had to learn everything by myself. For an online course, the least he could do was let us use our calculators for tests!
Great personality and great style of getting ideas across. Class has lots of learning and is also somewhat like a comedy show...take this guy
Tom is a great guy. He gets sidetracked alot but tells very funny stories. His tests are very similar to material covered, and he tries to not over complicate things as much as possible. It's not a real easy class, but he made it fun to go to. Take him if you can.
Does not do enough examples. Does not explain how equations work. Assumes math comes easy to all. Funny guy and relatable but does not teach the material well. Not enough graded work in class to improve a bad score.
oh. my. god. he is not very helpful, talks about himself for at least 20 minutes of class. I am in extended math hours for a reason...he doesn't get that. SAVE YOURSELF! one good thing to say -he is nice sometimes very funny...
Does a lot of examples. but his stories drive me crazy.
Ignore the people who don't like the stories. they help you to see how to get better study habits for math and how to pick about your thoughts on a problem. i liked the stories.
Tom seems to be nice as a person however, he spends way too much time talking about himself and his life. When you ask him a question he is real good at making you feel stupid, to the point most of my class works with each other to figure things out instead of asking him. He is extremely slow giving grades and never answers emails. Don't take him
He is the most conceited person I have ever came across. He is not helpful at all. Do not take this class unless you want to constantly go to the study center.
I liked Tom a lot. He kept class lighthearted and gave us a lot of time to work on stuff in class. Yeah he tells stories and sometimes its off topic but most of the time it is stories about his kids or his coaching to get across different things about working hard at homework each day or how to think. helps some and not others i guess. Take him
His teaching technique is the best I have ever come across. Every math teacher does problems differently, but the way he explains them like I said the best! I will be taking him in every class i possibly can.
He is a very hard instructor. He spends a lot of time talking about his personal life and barely finishes teaching. When you ask him a question he will make you feel stupid and say "this stuff is easy, you seriously don't get this?" He expects you to already know the material. He grades test very slow and hard. I love math but I hated his class.
He explains things really well and his tests are similar to practice tests and fair one of most laid back and funny math teachers I have had. will take him for next class for sure.
Tom was the best math teacher I have had, I have never received a 100% on a test before him. I passed all tests with 100% in his class. If you don't get it he will always help you and he tries to make class fun!
Tom is a great teacher! Some students in class didn't like him because he is hard on people if they don't push to have a high drive to learn or make excuses or complain. I think it is a good thing and thought his stories were encouraging and he explained things really well and gave us practice in class at the boards.
Tom is a very good instructor. He is right to the point with helpful problems and examples, but also allows for a bit of good, HELPFUL conversation in between so it makes the 3 hour class not so dull. He assigns a fair amount of homework and tests are also fair. Overall great instructor!
This guy is awesome!
Mr. Wells is entertining and makes the math seem simpler. he tries to help you be better in school all around not just good at math.
Mr. Wells was an amazing teacher. I highly recommend him to anyone. His class is very easy if you pay attention and do your homework. He is hilarious and is willing to help students in anyway he can.
I thought Tom was a great teacher - when he stayed on topic. Most classes he went off talking about Disney or something else. There were questions on the test that he didn't even teach us. He was a very nice teacher and was helpful if you asked him questions, but his lack of focus was hard to learn new material.
I had Mr. Wells my first semester at Delta. He is my favorite teacher by far. Every class is productive and he not only teaches about math, but about life.
Tom's style is like no one else I have seen. he provokes thought and teaches math. i understood his lectures and he gave us a lot of practice. very funny and gets you to think about math and just life sometimes.
Mr. Wells is more than a teacher. THat's the best I can say. He inspires you to generally become a person who wants to learn and think hard. Some people complain about his off topic stuff but he is just trying to provoke us to be better thinkers which is a key part of math.
He's Dwight from "the office"...'nuff said.
What you need to do: Do all the homework (This saves you a letter grade), go to every class (You won't regret it), DO THE EXAM REVIEWS (THE EXAMS ARE THE SAME AS THE REVIEWS), bug him for extra credit, and go to office hours (he has them for a reason). Nuff Said...
funny, really odd, not into traditional ways of life, wants people to be active thinkers..i didn't do homework very much and it showed but he was good.
Dont take Tom. He lectures so fast its hard to understand the material. In order to pass u will need to teach yourself.
Mr. Wells is a solid teacher. he lets us practice and he keeps class entertaining which is big for a math class
Tom is a great teacher! There is a lot of homework and all of it is online, but it is helpful for the most part. The tests are exactly like the reviews, so do them a few times and you will be sure to get a good grade. He also tells great stories and is really funny!
His lectures are pretty straight-forward and the material is easy to understand. He wants his students to pass and he makes classes fun. He had us go up to the boards to do practice problems, which was very helpful. There are three tests and a bunch of homework, but it's doable. If you show up and work hard, you'll do just fine.
Fantastic and sarcastic! He was a joy to listen to in class, and was delightful to talk to. If you can'd differentiate the difference between sarcasm and people being serious, then he might not be the professor for you; otherwise I implore you to take his class. Pro-tip as well, he loves to play devil's advocate on issues. PS Come to argument club!
Tom Wells was not a terrible teacher. I had him for Trig, but he moved insanely fast through the course. As someone with no background in Trig, i found this stressful. When asking him for help he managed to make you feel stupid for not knowing. Tests were pretty straightforward but you have to teach yourself pretty much all of the coursework.
was an amazing instructor! He has a lot of motivational discussions. He has 4 tests and the final exam. Homework was online, he loves questions. He is very helpful with homework and gives everyday life examples of the math being useful. He is hilarious and makes an overall fantastic classroom experience. Homework is a buffer, textbook is optional.
this was way to hard of a basic math class he made fun of students who couldnt do the work.
He explained the material well and gives lots of examples in his lecture. There is a quiz every week so be ready for that, homework is optional but I would suggest doing it in order to pass the quizzes. He is also a very funny guy, I enjoyed being in his class.
Tom is my favorite math teacher I have ever had. Go to every class and you will pass. Tests are easy and he makes the class fun.
he was okay
Mr. Wells clearly enjoys teaching his subject. As I'm sure he'll tell you if you end up taking his class, he basically went back to school and got a Master's in mathematics for fun. Very intelligent guy, knows his stuff. He does tend to tell stories during class. Great personality, excellent teacher.
Highly recommend. He gives good/entertaining lectures. He tells funny stories. Sometimes he goes a little long with stuff that isn't math but it is not too bad. He is very sarcastic, quirky, and interesting. He accidentally got a degree in math because he kept taking classes for fun. If you pay attention you should do well, at least for Calc 3.
His class is kinda like a "Ted Talk". he tries to shake up your way of thinking and explains why things work in math instead of just how. He goes off on tangents that are about how to think about math and how to gain more discipline as a student. Maybe a bit too much of an emphasis but I was inspired to be a more serious student.
Best way to describe his class is that it is a class not just about Math but about how to think like a math person..i thought this was distracting for a week or so but then I started to see how the math problems and my approach got better by seeing how mr wells actually thinks about it
Mr Wells teaches math way different than how I have seen. Most attractive teacher I've ever had. Funny, fit, and different for sure. Too bad he is married lol.
Mr. Wells is awesome. He is not a normal guy at all and you have to fill in the gaps because he just hits the high points in class but I came away loving math more and wanting to be a way higher level student than before
Class was easy, lectures were sort of pointless. I say class was easy, I pretty much taught myself, which I believe is the most important thing about college level math. He is a tough grader, but just do the hw and learn and you will be fine. Tom tells stories and wastes a lot of time in class. I went to class for quizzes and bc he was interesting.
I had Mr. Wells for MTH 092-096 and I recommend him to anyone! I have always struggled with math and Tom always had different ways to teach us something so all you had to do was pick which way was easier. Do the homework, come to class, and its an easy A. By far the best professor I have had at Delta!
Great Professor. I struggle in math and didn't like the professor I signed up for, so I switched to Tom's class during the first week and am so glad I did. Do the homework assigned and you will do good on the quizzes.
He was clear. He posted notes online for every class. He kept it interesting with being funny and showing little cool math facts and tricks and it was the first math class i have had that i would say was kinda entertaining and i learned the math. He can be harsh but i didn't mind. Some did. Take him for sure.
Talks about and bashes irrelevant pop culture trends constantly. He also tries to convince us he Is the only one who understands religion. It is not appropriate.
Mr Wells explains things very clearly and he has fun lectures which is odd for a math class. Some people in the class complain about his humor but I liked it. Take him. He is odd but good and funny.
Mr Wells was funny and made things easy to understand. He broke down ideas and forced us to think which annoyed me but ended up being good. He also pep talks kinda harsh sometimes but needed for me
He is good thats about it. Pretty unique guy.
I wanted to learn about math, I didnt, I heard about his philosophy for debate and arguing and everything except course content. This was a waste of good hard cash, Tom needs to teach not gab.
Talk, Talk, Talk! He does very little teaching and a lot of talk about how wonderful he, his opinion, about EVERYTHING, and his family are, but not math. I did very well because the class was a joke. He constantly cut down and the social sciences which was uncalled for and he was faculty wrong on most of his opinions.
Mr Wells is out there for sure. You will leave his class everytime thinking differently about something. Some people dont like him because he isnt the kind of guy to spoon feed and he calls us out sometimes for being lazy. I liked it and he was funny about it
Smart guy with hilarious stories. Really makes you think about the material as he teaches it. Teaches you how to think rather than going through the motions of every problem. This helps because he doesn't teach every way to go about a problem and contributes to understanding later, more difficult math. Inversely, still makes material difficult.
Love mr wells. He makes learning math entertaining and he relates to us eben though he is like 45.
I didnt like this professor because he goes off on rants with unrelated topics often, and they are often iffy topics (that might be sensitive).
He is quality. Ignore the haters on here. Yeah, he entertains here and there but we all know why he does it! to keep the class moving and interesting. he gets through all the material and explains things really well and gives us alot of time to practice in class. weekly quizzes keep you on top of everything too
i agree with an earlier comment that class is like a ted talk. i like it. we get really into the math and he mixes up class. does he go off topic? kind of, but it is usually about something related to thinking well and sometimes just cracking a joke. i like it. it makes it way easier for me to show to see what will happen next.
I liked the class. It wasnt normal but I did well and learned alot. Tom is a character
Thomas was for sure one of my favorite teachers. Not only did he keep class entertaining, but he also helped me understand Trig more than any other teacher has. You'll enjoy his personal stories and how quirky his life is as well as his sarcasm. Thomas makes trig bearable and a lot less stressful/complicated.
An amazing teacher, and if you are falling behind he will help you until you get it. You have to work hard to pass, but you won't ever forget the material. Super funny guy, very charismatic, but don't necessarily recommend to someone who has struggled in math before.
Tom does an okay job at communicating the material. I personally think that his notes arent that great. He is hard to approach, so if you are a shy individual I dont recommend his class. He is a nice guy, but comes across quite brash and dry. He does get off topic during class, and expects you to meet with him outside if you dont understand.
Tom spent a lot of time talking about himself, his soccer business, and his daughter. He spent little time teaching calculus. I learned it in my own. If you like stories about Tom, doing board work, and having little to no notes to refer back to later, Tom is your guy. He was a nice enough guy and wasnt boring, I will give him that.
he was solid. he keeps class interesting. my good friend in class didn't like him because he was not a typical math teacher. i understood algebra better than ever. take him, it's a trip!
I like mr wells alot. He is funny and explains well.
Very different than any math class ive had. Mr Wells spends alot of time on how to study and tells good stories. I learned alot of math and study habit.
You struggle with math? Don't waste your time. Test Heavy, for homework he assigns you 100 problems but you don't get credit for it, he just expects it done. He goes off on tangents, and if you don't know something he's ignorant. Class started with 20+ people, down to around 12. I'd be surprised if 7 people pass the class. Pass on this clown.
i liked the class. we did alot of practice in class at the boards and it helped to make it less boring. he gives about 8 tests and drops the worst one so you can have a bad day. he explains things well and has an different way of looking at life
Professor Wells was an amazing teacher an I would definitely take his class again. Homework isn't graded but it is very important to do it anyway just to get better at the subject. He may come across as intimidating to some people but he is really good at explaining things and is willing to help people one-on-one. Pay attention and participate :))
Before taking this class, the reviews on here did scare me. But Mr. Wells is a pretty good teacher. He made his expectations very clear and was always willing to give me extra help if I needed it. He also has a very interesting perspective of life, he can definitely get you thinking.
Test heavy Homework was long Test are main grade
Gives extra credit if you participate often in class. Homework heavy. SO MANY REPETITIVE QUESTIONS. He uses Pearson. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK THERE IS AN ONLINE VERSION PEARSON WILL GIVE YOU AND TESTS ARE NOT LOCKED!!!!
this was a good class. I really liked the guided notes he used in class. It kept me focussed. He gives test reviews and if you master them you will be ready for the tests. he has some memorable quotes and stories in class too. I really enjoyed it.
great class. guided notes format is great. the homework was a lot, but the tests were fair.
Mr. Wells has an interesting way of teaching math that overall made the material easier to understand. However, he has a habit of going on lots of long tangents about rather controversial topics and gets mad at the class for getting off topic. In a purely academic sense, he is a decent professor. I would not extend that praise in any other aspects.
Professor has great notes if you take online course. We used Pearson and it was pretty easy to use.
Wells is a very talkative teacher, I dislike math and his talking made it more bearable the lectures were in person but the homework was online. Pearson (MyMathLab) is touchy so be careful. Wells is understanding even if he may seem intimidating he is a very easy person to talk to. I enjoyed his class even though I am not the best at math.
Very organized and clear online class. His videos were helpful. No book and he had his own notes that he used that had everything you need.
Professor Wells has an engaging teaching style, though he can sometimes veer off topic. The guided notes and test reviews were really helpful. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
This course was very lecture-heavy. But, if you attend classes, you will understand the content easily. He does take quite a bit of time to grade assignments which can be frustrating. Grades were released about 2 weeks after completion. There is no extra credit, and grades are heavily influenced by tests. Put in the heavy work, and you'll be good!
Videos he made were very thorough. You could easily scroll thru them to find the parts you wanted to see. He had guided notes that you filled in that helped. Needs to get grades back sooner but not a huge deal.
Was a great professor as his lectures were very good and very well put together. Clear in grading as well. Learning was super easy with Tom.
Great thorough online class. There are guided notes, full lecture videos, help sessions on campus that are extra. Very well run class
Solid online class. everything is clear. professotr wells is available for help. good videos, notes, in-person tests, clear timeline. take this online class.
the class was organized and clear with fair assignments. the videos were clear and he made notes that went along with the videos.
