great professor, very easy to understand

Prof. Whalen was the best teacher I had at Suffolk. He was clear, concise and he really wants the students to learn. He is also great about giving extra help and makes a boring subject fun. An all around swell guy. Study Lord of the Rings (all his EC)

in suffolk sawyer school of management, there is a limited number of professors that are really good and he is the best i've had among them. His class is fun and if u really want to learn he is really helpful.

professor whalen is a great teacher. he truly wants all his students to do well, and as long as you want to learn he will be very helpful. if accounting is your major i highly recommend him. he is a great guy, and is very helpful.

Class is a good take, if you are willing to put in the time & effort. Slackers need not apply!! You will learn the basics required for a major in Accounting, but also enough "language" to succeed in the business curriculum with any major course.

Whalen is great, as long as you do what he tells you, you will be fine. Bringing him a vanilla coolata from dunkin donuts doesn't hurt.

very nice. He helps any student on any subject, or life concerning issue. Accounting is hard subject so the class is a lot of work. It has nothign to to with the teacher. Good guy

Slackers definitely need not apply! Alot of work, nothing is spoon fed. As an accounting major, I was serious about the class, and enjoyed learning. Whalen is great for accounting, but also life lessons.

Came out of the class feeling as though I got my moneys worth, tough but if your here to learn then he's your guy.

Awesome professor. As long as you do your work and go to class you will be fine. Is very easy going and an all around nice guy. Definately enjoyed this class.

One of the best professors I've had at Suffolk. Go to class, do the work, and pay attention and you'll get a better grade than you had anticipated. It is a lot of work, but you learn a lot about accounting and life in general.

he is a great guy! he wont move forward with the material if you dont understand it. he is willing to help, and practically tells you everything that is on the exam. You can't slack off though. If you put in the time for the class, he will put time in for you in return.

He is a typical Bostonian guy. If you are not from this city you will find his jokes uninteresting. He speaks too fast and always get carried away with his own stories which are unrelated to accounting.He also seems to be unapproachable and never reply to emails even he promised he will.If you take his class you have to work your way up.

He's the best prof. If you followed what he told you to do, it would be easy A!!!

Awesome!! tells you everything that u need to know for an exam, gives extra credit, goes at the right pace, very FAIR with everything. I'd recommend him definately!

Whalen is perhaps the best Accounting professor at Suffolk. I learned a lot from him. I took Sergenian last semester and I struggled to keep myself awake in her class, and I basically have to learn everything through the book myself...she can't teach. Switching from Sergenian to Whalen is a world of difference. Take Whalen.

This man is a god amongst men. If you go through your Suffolk career without taking him at least once your better off dead. Show some sort of effort, you cannot fail his class, he is way to helpful. Show up each day on time and blessed you shall be. Remember....there are 5 P's to success. Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.

Very nice guy and very helpful. He cares for his students. The tests are a bit hard, but he makes every effort to make them easier or finds ways to improve your grade. You can't fail his class, because he won't allow it. There's not much HW. Definately recommend him as a professor for ACCT.

Whalen's the man! He's one of the professors who truly care about your future. He gives a lot of advice and tells you the right steps to take, but not just in accounting. Accounting-wise though, he's the best one out there too. A bit boring sometimes, but he's definately better than the other accounting professors at Suffolk.

he's nice, speaks a little fast but that's because he expects you to have already read the chapter before coming to class. If you do what he says, you will pass. He tells you what will be on the test also he posts practice tests before each test.

One of the few professors who actually cares about his students. All you have to do is show up to class and listen to what he has to say and you will do well.

One of the best teachers at suffolk. He really knows how to teach this boring subject, also gives other helpful advise. To help boost up your grade make sure to attend all his classes and go to his office hours at least once during the semester. Gives out a lot of EC. I took him again for ACCT202.

Probably the best professor on campus. he will turn you into a good student and give you good habits. you are lightyears ahead of other acct students if your lucky enought to get this guy. you will learn way more than accounting from him if you are willing. cant stress enuf how good this guy is.

Good prof. Tries to help you out with getting a good grade as much as possible and gives you other advice too. Not hard to do well if you do what he says.

Whalen is the best professor at suffolk. He'll make the time meaningful and will teach more than you could imagine. He wants his students to do well and won't settle for anything less. He's a teacher who actually cares about his kids. Must do the work and take the time, but it's definitely worth it even if you hate accounting! I'll miss him!

If you are going to major in Accounting, definitely take whalen. If you're not majoring in accounting, do NOT TAKE WHALEN! whalen only make sense for the accounting majors--that's why there are negative comments here; he's a tough professor tho, he expects a lot from his students!

Whalen is a great! He's got a great sense of humour. I've had him for two semesters and he's taught me alot. You REALLY have to pay attention to him in class though and sometimes self-teach yourself. The tests are wicked easy just study practice exams and do your homework. Be sure to show up and participate Those are worth a lot % pts for grade

I've had him for both 201 and 202. By far the best professor I've had at Suffolk. He knows what he's talking about. He goes a little fast sometimes, so if you have questions and doubts, ask/email him. He's always willing to help you. Homework comes from the book and solutions are online, he tells you whats on the exam plus his tests are all 120+pts

It looks like he is more of an undergraduate type of guy, and it showed with the way he did stuff. Not to say that he made the quizzes and tests easier, but he definitely didn't do much in form of creativity and switching up the questions. Do well on quizzes and the tests should be more breezy

Great professor! Would without a doubt take every class with him if given the oppurtunity. Really knows what hes talking about and offers great insight into real world experiences and what you can do to better your oppurtunities. A lot of homework online, but if you complete it for class you'll get an A.

Prepare to put some time into his accounting class, lots of work. Very dry subject, he tries to make it interesting. Don't pretend you know that material, ask questions and he'll review. He goes at a fast pace so ask him lots of questions, which he's happy to answer. Overall, a pretty good teacher.

Very nice guy. I would highly recommend him if you are planning on choosing an Account major. Accounting is by far not the easiest subjects to teach, but he does a great job. I changed my major to Accounting after taking both of his introductory classes. You must work hard in his class, but it's well worth it in the end.

Whalen is THE MAN. He is definitely not easy. You get what you put in. Put in the work and you will learn a lot. I am thankful I had him as a professor. He teaches you how to succeed. Highly recommend taking him.

Amazing Professor. Explains everything clearly and helps a ton when you have questions. **WARNING** Lots of work is involve, so if your not up to doing plenty of accting exercises, dont go to his class. This class is for actual learning, not a walk in the park.

Prof. Whalen will not give you a grade, but will explain what you need to do to earn a good grade in this class. He has high expectations, you need to do more than spend 3 hours a week in class. The class was very rewarding. Highly recommend.

Fantastic professor especially if you plan on going into accounting. Expect him to move fast and read the book. You will not be handed the grade. Quite frankly, I think he is the professor most kids at suffolk need as a sort of wakeup call.

One of the best professors I've taken at Suffolk. You're not guaranteed an A, you have to work for it. And he somehow makes financial accounting interesting with his tales from the "old days". As time goes on, you will think back to his class because of how much you learned. Highly recommend!

This class is hard! however you will learn a lot. This guy will make your work but in the end it will help you stand above the rest of the kids who had laid back professors. If you are a finance or accounting major def. takes this guy. For such an important class you want the best not easiest. Like he says seek progress not perfection

The people who hate Whalen are the ones who either didn't do the homework, or didn't get the necessary help. You leaner a lot from him, he was one of my favorite professors.

Whalen is the man. He does not only teach you account, he teaches about how to succeed in life. If you pay attention in class and do the reading you will not have a problem. He gives a good amount of homework but, its all online and easy if you understand the material. You'l have to earn the grade but, if you put in the time you'll get the A.

Take Whalen and you will be challenged the entire time. I took his ACCT202 class for the summer and it was TOUGH. It wasn't impossible but you had to keep up with the hw assignments (and he assigns it regularly every day) and lectures. His expectations are high but he will prepare you for the real stuff. Totally would take his class again.

Professor Whalen is awesome! He assigns a lot of homework but if you take the time to do the homework, it makes the class much easier. He also has great stories to share. Prepare to be prepared.

Great guy, however the class is very fast paced. A lot of the work and learning you do will be done alone, so be prepared more that. He is very open to questions or whatever you need to understand the material. Definitely have to work for your grade.

Professor Whalen isn't for everyone because he doesn't believe in hand holding and handouts. Anyone can do good in this class if you put in the work. He knows a lot about accounting and provides great career advice.
