I have always been TERRIBLE at math. I saved my finite course for my final semester (stupid, I know) and was so scared to start it. Professor Whitt made it bearable. If I can pass this class with a B ANYONE can. Just do the homework, SHOW UP (quizzes). Whoever says he's difficult just doesn't try hard enough. I barely studied. You'll be fine.

Pretty average entry-level science course. Lectures aren't super helpful for the test, but attendance is mandatory. I advise reading through the chapters during class since that is where you will find most of the test material. Overall not a terrible class but if you're looking for an easy A, I would probably take a different professor.

Whitts tests are awful. He makes everything the hardest possible version it could be. The actual calculus isn't bad, but makes the algebra extremely difficult to do in your head. This guy blows. Yaps all class in a tone that simply echos across the room so you can't understand him. This is a beginning science class that your friends will say is an absolute cake walk yet you will find your self studying hours for a test for the CLASS AVERAGE to be in the low 70s. Take this class but use ANY other professor imaginable for a A

Thomas Whitt was a horrible professor. He spoke very quietly and didn't use the microphone even after being told we couldn't hear him. I studied and attended every class and still struggled on the tests. The tests were ridiculously hard with the averages for every test being a C or D

This class was impossible to crack. You can barely hear anything he says, even at the front. The one time I emailed him about a test, he never answered. All is based on exams, so be ready to have to study hard every two weeks for a C+< tests. He says that lectures won't help on the exam, and you have to read the textbook, but class is mandatory.

I hated this class and did not put that much effort in and still passed. Lectures are a little hard to understand at times but he gives you a lot of resources to study on your own.

The test questions are so random; they have nothing to do with content in lectures and little to do with the textbook. Study guide is vague and not reflective of test content very much at all. Do not take this class; find a different teacher.

By far the worst math teacher I have ever had. He assigns pretty difficult tests that he doesn't prepare you for at all. If you've taken calculus before, you will fare better but this class will still probably be difficult. Also, there's no calculators allowed in this course so if you actually wanted to apply your learning then think again.

He knows his stuff but he expects you to be a master a concepts that you've only known for 2 weeks. His tests are unreasonably hard. I understand that you should be able to know the core concepts but he punishes you for not knowing every possible combination. Would not recommend him but if you have to take him, be prepared to study on your own.

Whitt is somewhat underrated imo. He requires a high level of mastery from previous coursework (think obscure trig identities etc.), and his lecture style is pages of writing, which can be frustrating. But, if you practice a lot of problems and try to understand, you can succeed and gain a strong mastery. Also, he is helpful in office hours.

The class itself is not hard, but he is not the best teacher. Be prepared to read the textbook for every test, bc the lectures are not helpful at all. Attendance is mandatory, but I would do the iClicker and leave. Study the reading checks bc a lot of those questions are on the tests. Lab is SO easy. No final exam + lowest test grade dropped!

The lectures are iclicker attendance. I would check in and leave. He has his lectures on canvas and notes. Tests make up most of your grade and are unreasonably hard. He expects you to understand the concepts to the fullest extent, the test reviews he puts out don't help, you need to study the more difficult problems from the textbook.

He is honestly not as bad as a lot of people say he is. Coming into his class, I was unsure because of his rating, but it really isn't that difficult. His lectures can feel long and boring, but he knows what hes talking about, so approach the class with an open mind. Attendance somewhat mandatory. Go to your Recitation and SI, very helpful!!!!

he was not as bad as everyone says, the class moves pretty fast and it could definitely be a lot more challenging if you dont have any background in calculus. i wouldnt bother going to lectures, do the iclicker and then leave, i learned most of the content through my recitation class and looking at his posted lecures. hw is sooo long and unhelpful

I think Whitt is a very smart guy, but he doesn't teach the best. I had to learn a lot of the material outside of class because he talks so extremely quiet and his “notes” are just paragraphs, which is not how I learn math. However, I don't think this class was super hard and he drops lowest test grade, lowest homework, and 4 quiz grades.

Dr Whitt is one of those professors that makes students hate math by making his class so much harder than it has to be. Tests are obnoxiously difficult compared to the homework and almost always have curveballs you haven't seen before. Lectures were dull and confusing, and filled with “you should know this from pre cal already.” Take anyone else.

He taught me absolutely nothing. His lectures would focus on how not to do the problems. I did not learn anything in the lectures. I learned ALL the material from the Organic Chemistry Tutor and my TA. Tests were very difficult and relied very heavily on knowing trigonometry. Watch YouTube videos, do practice problems, and dont care about lectures.
