Sucks, really really bad prof.

Zeller is a very good teacher, but makes you work hard. He hates it when students are not punctual. Tests are somewhat difficult; half is mult choice but the other half is blank page analysis. Can not slack off in his class to do well.
I thought this was a good class..going to class will make it easier to understand when the test comes. Professor seems to care about his students. you have to do work to get a good grade. overall, i thought it was a good class
Very hard.if ur acct major take him and make sure he knows u.Never miss class.Never be late.He fails people regularly - 2 of my roomates failed.he is a good prof and def knows what hes talking about.
yes, Zeller was evil in 202. but in 308 he was totally different, the assignments were easy, and he'd allow us to argue for points on the tests. total blow off class. truly in his element

Awesome!!! None of that stupid in depth equations, just basic Accounting common sense. Exams are not bad at all, and project takes a lot of time, but easy!!!
HIS CLASS WAS VERY EASY. HE MAKES SURE THAT YOU KNOW THE MATERIAL BEFORE GOING ON TO THE NEXT SUBJECT. GIVES PLENTY OF EXAMPLES. TESTS ARE ALSO EASY. IF YOU DON'T DO GOOD ITS BC YOU DON'T GO TO CLASS.
Zeller is a great teacher. If you go to class and take notes, you'll do fine on the tests and get an A in the class!
Dr. Zeller is wonderful, very sarcastic and fun in class. Knows his accounting and is very concerned with students well-being. Striving for students to be value-added. Go to class and pay attention and you'll be ok.
Excellent. Need to go to class to do well. Usually has questions on exams like ones that he does in class. SO pay attention to them.
Great professor! Goes over everything in class, and makes sure that students know how to do all problems that will be on the test. It is extremely important to go to class, but he tries to make it fun (as much fun as accounting can be).
Zeller is a really good teacher. The tests are pretty hard so you have to study. Also you have to attend class for a better chance to score well. There are extra analytical skills developed in-class. Overall Zeller is awesome.
Prof. Zeller breaks everything down for you to understand and make it look so simple. i love his class, could get boring sometimes but overall this is the ONE professor you need to take if you want to learn accounting.
Very good, helps link accounting to how it is used after school. I Dont like accounting but I liked his class
Great Teacher! Just remember to turn your annual report project in on time.
Professor Zeller is wonderful!!! recommend him to anyone. The class is not easy, but you learn so much!:) He makes accounting as interesting as possible.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR, REALLY HAS A PASSION FOR TEACHING, HE NEVER HAS A BAD DAY, ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO HIM THAT EVERYONE SUCCEEDS, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO TRY AND SHO EFFORT, AND HELL SHOW INTEREST IN YOU, RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO ANYONE
Be careful when you take this class. Zeller is cool but He's not easy when comes to test and grading.
Not too demanding. 2 exams 1 final 1 written project. Good prof; he teaches the material well. A is attainable if you come to class and pay attention. Don't be late and don't get on his bad side; he plays favorites. Being an attractive girl helps apparently
Not a bad class. 3 tests and a long and tedious project that is easy to do well on. Does a good job explaining homework. Big on class participation. Sometimes can be a little full of himself. 1st test was easy but dont be fooled 2nd test was much harder. dont know about the final. i would reccomend
I hate accounting and struggled with 201, and I ended up with A in class. Great teacher and is very helpful, will give great help in office. Go to class! Put forth the time and effort and he will reward you. Can be nitpicky, great sense of humor.
Best professor at Loyola. Hard but fair.
Awesome prof. He is the reason I switched my major to accounting, which I had no interest in beforehand. Somehow he makes something so seemingly boring seem interesting. Willing to help always. Take him for whatever you can
Excellent professor! Gets the class involved and actually does care about each individual. When you get beyond the intro courses such as 201 and 202 he bases his classes on the real world. Once at the higher level he does not baby his students or puts them
what a hillarious guy, his lecture examples which would not help you to open to the real world at all. His exams are crucially hard!. and extremely picky. A cautious word!! he can't balance when gives grades. Do not recommended
His exams are way too hard and he never goes over the homework assignments that he assigns. He DOESNT CURVE at all. His exams are tricky as hell and it seems he doesnt care if you do well, he cares more about screwing yoiur grade over. I would not recommend him, he makes it impossible to get an A, and very hard to get a B. Oh and he is a jerk too.
He screwed me over in my final grade. I go ask for an explanation and he says we'll talk over break. How can one with his CPA not have the ability to calculate final grade accurately?
Worst teacher I ever came across. His instruction can only confuse and discourage a student. I know a person who took his class and then switched majors. He tests on material not covered in the book or lecture. He is a liar and a jerk, and I personally hate his guts. If you take this guy, good luck because you'll need it.
Terrible professor, extremely unclear during lectures, takes up an entire class period (1:15hrs) to go over one problem but never get the solution, exams are really nit-picky... hard to study for. Might not be able to aviod taking him but if you do... be prepared to teach yourself the material!
horrrible professor! Hate him! He is not understanding of any situation outside of the classroom is a huge jerk and seems to get pleasure off of being one! HATE THIS MAN! this class SHOULD be easy but he makes it way harder than it is. cant explain anything for the life of himand when you ask him a ques still doesnt explain. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!
Clearly the MORON below me mustve written like 5 messages because he/she was too dumb to understand accounting. I hate when acct majors complain that they cant pass a test with simple journal entries, did you ever consider that you are a moron? Zeller is great, take him, dont listen to the idiot.
Very enthusiastic. He is difficult, but makes the course interesting by applying real life cases. Enjoyed his course.
I have taken many classes at Loyola and never had I had such a cold, rigid and stuck up teacher like Zeller. He was by far one of the worst teachers I know. I got a B and I am a B student, but he was a very poor teacher. I would advise those that want to take his class to be prepared to have a difficult experience.
okay the moron who wrote the message above me doesnt know what hes talking about. I am an A student, about to graduate with a bachelors in accouting and on my way to get my MSA, and i hated Zeller, his tests were ridiculous, and he was an bad teacher. He never worked as an accountant in his life, for god sake hes not even cpa certified!!
I thought I liked this class in the beg.! I waas wrong. im an acct major and this class made me feel like i was incompetent.. but zeller CANNOT teach and CANNOT grade himself out of a box. you prob cant avoid but teach it to yourself or go to past prof.
Probably one of the worst acct profs at Loyola. Very stuck up and constantly makes errors when explaining problems. It took him 20 minutes and 4 sheets of paper to do 1 of his Mulitlple choice test questions. hmm makes you wonder if he even knows the material. hes pretty nice and helpful outside of class though.
this class wasn't difficult. in the beg you knew what he expected on the hw. after that it went downhill. said he expected professional spreadsheets. don't know what that means since i never got my hw back to see my errors. good luck is all i can say. exams and hw decide your grade. exams are okay, same as in class examples pretty much
He curved the first exam due to high percentage of people failing the first exam. After that the avg. grade for the first exam was 34/50
I've only been to one class so far, and this guy already seems like one of the biggest snobs in the business. Completely confused in class, homework is time-consuming because he wants everything done on the computer, and he doesn't seem to really care about students. I pray I get through this without having to drop.
Guy is 100% boring. Treats the class like it's the most important thing on Earth and expects you to do the same. Two semi-hard tests and then you're stuck listening to people do really long and dull projects for a while. He also gets mad if you don't show up or leave at the break.
This class is hard. There is no way around it. Zeller is a cool guy and cracks some jokes in class but he does make a lot of mistakes on the board which can be frustrating. The exams can be tough but he does offer some extra credit, and the hw helps your overall grade a ton. Good prof. just super hard subject.
Zeller is the hardest profesor ever at Loyola. The mc part of his tests is extrimely difficult, but the problem part are problems done in class. He goes on and on with a problem and you never get the theoretical point of it.
I only semi-agree with other people. His questions are hard on multiple choice, nearly immpossible. But he's willing to help if needed. Understanding yet tough grader.Take him only if you truly know or want to learn accounting.
Most of the people who have reviewed this professor thus far will not be successful accountants. Professor Zeller has devoted his life to instruction and will spend any amount of time with a student to help them along. I missed several classes, went to his office with no excuse, and he helped me through step by step. Just apply yourself and go SLO
Very interested in his getting his point across. Very into his area of study. He may come across as a bit odd, but don't let it fool you. He is a top notch professor. A star in Loyola's Acctg area. Glad I took him.
All around class. Focuses on practical business applications. I learned more practical business knowledge from this course than any other business course. Good guy, encourages open ideas and discussion. Great class, interactive environment. Highly recommend him.
...and 202. Here's the thing, if you want your hand held or someone to put your pacifier back, well, Zellar isn't for you. He is demanding, doesn't spoon-feed and yes can get ahead of himself in class but, you will know what it feels like to actually be faced with an accounting problem. I've read some of the comments on here and I think to myself "
Zeller tries harder than any other accounting professor to make a pretty dry topic interesting. Every class he uses real world examples. This class isn't easy, but you will learn something, and it's not nearly as boring as most accounting classes! I would take him again, if I was forced into another accounting class!
I try to let people form their own opinions of their professors, rather than becoming biased based on something I say, but with this guy I just don't care. He's a jerk.
worst accounting professor I have ever had at Loyola. Has no idea what he's doing on the board and is unable to answer student questions in class. He doesn't even understand the material himself!
Good prof. Alot of sports analogies but very helpful and friendly
People who write negative comments about this professor are wrong - nothing comes easy in life, college is for people who are willing to work hard! Mr. Zeller makes the topic really interesting & enthusiastic just read and understand the material he goes over in class, paperless tests!
Those who don't like Zeller are ppl who get annoyed when they have to follow specific instructions bc he penalizes if you don't, or people who just want probs/info fed with no theory. Zeller is BIG on theory and logic behind acct. He clearly loves teaching and is dedicated to presenting material in a way. If you work hard you will get along great.
Yes, he is knowledgeable and yes, he does care about teaching. BUT, you must follow his method if you want to do well in the class.
Cool guy, but frustrating class. While tests mostly based on the homework and practice exams, still finds a way to make them extremely difficult.
Great teacher ! You need to do the work, there is no free lunch in Zellers class. Many people tha't dont like Zeller are too lazy to do the work. Zeller is the best accounting teacher I ever had !
Prepare to work hard. Do not memorize material. He places the study guide before exams for you to practice, lock down the methods and practice. This class will widen your scope on managerial accounting, and is very interesting. Get a group asap, meet once or twice a week to do the assigned homework, it really helps. Overall, amazing professor.
I could have gotten an A if I did the hw and didn't slack off. So keep up with hw, read the book, understand concepts and you SHOULD do well. As with any other acct class, you need to study to get an A. Do practice exams as well. Attendance not mandatory, sometimes he makes concepts harder to understand but he tries.
Ok, so you should always read ahead by at least 1 chapter, and do all the homework and thinkthrough the material so when you read it, read slowly and carefully. Have a small dedicated group to attack the material and do the practice exam and still leave sometime to rethink the material. If you do this you will get above B, possibly A. I had B+
You are going to have to work harder than most accounting courses, but you will learn a lot. Dont freak out when you fail an exam, you can recover it later. Got an A- when I thought I had a C+ so I want to say he curves the whole class.
He's like your grandpa, really wants you to succeed and gives a lot of real world advice. That said, he was poor at times at explaining the material (i.e, book was better resource) and he made multiple mistakes on many exams. All exams were on blackboard in class too, which can get annoying. Curves heavily though; if you work hard, not a bad class.
I thought his class could have been a lot better than it should. His lectures do not cover all the material that you need for the exam. Don't worry if you don't pass his exam because you will make up for it later. Do the homework and understand it and read up on terms. Don't depend on a curve, he does do it but he didn't for my class.
dr. z. was extremely helpful. he really cares about students and wants to help them. one of the best professors i've had so far at loyola.
Took Prof Z last year and I liked his style of teaching. His passion for both the subject matter and for his imparting of knowledge was palpable. Do your homework and see him if you need help. Great guy. I recommend him.
Its often hard to cross over what he teaches in class with the online homework. You're better off teaching yourself and just doing online problems repeatedly to assure you do well on the test and even then you probably won't. Class isn't worth the time anyway as he feels the need to discuss his elitist view
Extremely arrogant, condescending, does not reply to emails. This course was based entirely on an online system and he offered no help whatsoever. Lectures were pointless seeing as what he taught in class did not align with what we were required to know for the online assignments and exams. Did not curve the class by 10% like he said he would.
I respect professor Zeller a lot, however, I ended up teaching myself almost all of the material. His classes consist of showing you a problem in the texbook, then having you do the problem without showing you how to do it in the first place. I attended every class for the first half of the semester, then stopped going as it wasn't beneficial.
Don't understand why people complain about this class. Using Excel in class is a very efficient and effective way to present the logic. Professor Zeller has done a great job. He even offers exam correction points for students. Moreover, the exam is not difficult if you spend some time to understand it and do your homework.
Prof Zeller is nice and caringbut his teaching style is chaotic and didnt work for me. His input into making me understand the material was minimal. We went over problems in class without much explanation on his end. I didnt mind the use of Excel as it was pretty efficient. Extra credit opportunity given.
Zeller is a nice guy, his lectures can be dry but the information is important. He does not really talk about anything that he would not test you on. He gives clear hints on what might show up on an exam. The class is only exams and online homework, so if you do not do well on exams you will not do well in the class. Uses Excel heavily.
He's an okay guy. The one thing about him is that he's very unclear and his teaching technique is very difficult to follow. Also he has like a hatred for phones, so if you're on it during class he'll kick you out in front of everybody. He is also very unapproachable and has no empathy at all.
Accounting is a subject you either get or don't get. Thomas Zeller is the type to take the time to explain things for those of us who aren't in the major. With COVID-19 the course was online for the summer, but he made it worth the time and money. Always made time for questions, tests were just like the homework, and homework was always reviewed.
Unclear and busy work
His teaching style is all over the place and often uses a different method from the book. He doesn't update grades. Has deep industry experience, but is VERY condescending. I recommend reading the chapters before lectures. His exams can vary but pay close attention to problems done in class.
Thomas is an incompetent professor, plain and simple. He is extremely condescending and refuses to give constructive feedback despite (presumably) being paid very well. I cannot in any good conscious recommend anybody take any of his courses.
Very old schooled, he uses outdated software which he doesn't even know how to use and if you cannot complete it due to technical difficulties he will tell you to move on, and then he will fail you. A lot of assignments and projects. Windows computer should be required for this course with apple you will struggle. Overall did not learn anything...
I have learned so much valuable information in my classes with Prof. Zeller. Instead of just reading from a textbook, Prof. Zeller's teaching style is hands-on and engaging. He is clear and straightforward. His classes are challenging, but not overwhelming. Do not leave your homework for the last minute and you will succeed with his guidance.
Pretty much the class is concentrated heavily on excel (very confusing to follow), pretty old schooled , absolutely cannot use phones, work done in class does not reflect exams, gotta read all the chapters and complete pre-homework before each class + homework assignments. Does not curve, it is easy to fall asleep during class
Professor Zeller doesn't come off as approachable at first but if you go to office hours he will help you understand anything that's not clear so don't be afraid to go talk to him! He's a genuinely nice guy, plus if he sees that you care about your grade, he is way nicer. He just wants his students to be successful
Despite what I see in previous reviews, he has definitely changed the structure of his class and improved upon it tremendously. He tells us what to focus on for hw and goes through many examples in class which makes the exam easier as well. I thoroughly enjoy his class as an accounting major.
100% online asynchronous course, all on Quickbooks Online which had so many problems. He was always willing to help, but it was frustrating doing everything alone when it rarely worked as intended. 9 HW's that could take up to 5 hours. This should have been in person or at least have a zoom class.
Tests were so hard, but you are able to check your work once on worked out problems which helped a lot. I learned a lot from him in class and he brought real world examples daily. HW load was fine, MC test problems always stumped me though.
Grab a coffee before class. Lectures are very conceptual but very helpful to learn the content of this class. If you listen and participate in class with his examples, the homework and tests are a breeze. Makes it one of the easiest classes in the accounting department if you put the work in while in class, if not you will struggle.
He's a nice professor, and the class isn't too bad but to do well in class you have to show up to class. The exams are difficult, but it lets you check your work once. DO NOT FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS.
Great professor. Seems tough, but is super good at what he does. Teaches well, lectures good. Classes are lecture heavy so try not to miss. Weekly homework assignments and 3 tests (can check work once per problem which is super helpful). Ties it into the real world so it doesn't seem pointless. Definitely recommend.
I don't recommend taking this professor; he doesn't give extra credit and his quizzes count for the majority of the grade over the homework. He is also strict about you having your phone on the desk.
