Did not know how to teach the material. Screwed up more calculations than any other Chemistry teacher I've ever had...but he curves the grade like 30%, but take this class with someone else

A little different in style of teaching and manner when it comes to talking with others BUT - I went to the review sessions and went to class and got an A. Just do what you're supposed to and you won't even have to go and talk to him.
doesn't know how to teach material effectively, bad lecture skills and he has problems with math equations
He was my lab teacher, very very very helpful though. Always gave me answers to the lab questions!
For the most part he seems to be sincear in his effort to teach. He is a little jumpy with the material, but if you go to lass and do the rare assigned readings you will do well in his course, also his review sessions are extreamly helpful as his questions on tests usually come right from there.
EASIEST Chem class I have ever taken! As long as you're not a science major you have nothing to worry about at all. I couldn't even get a C in HS chem, but I barely tried in this class and got an A! Hugely ridiculous curves on all the tests, including the final. Don't believe the other people!
I was doing really bad all semester long..then he curved my final grade from a high D to a B!!Take the online quizzes with someone else,b/c you have multiple chances to take it, then youll get 100% every time.It seems bad in the beginning, but youll come out with a good grade.
Fairly easy class. Very little homework, just online quizzes, and you can look at the online notes while you take them. Tests were taken straight from the quizzes. Labs were simple but long. Just show up, do he quizzes and labs, get an A.
Very helpful and thorough with the lab. Can tell he is very intelligent. Made a great effort to learn everyone's name within 3 weeks!
He was a very good teacher, and fun too! I enjoyed being in his class
Not too hard of a class. Straight forward on what is expected. Teacher himself? Rude and doesn't try to help or clarify. Straight to the point and not very personable.
In my opinion the online quizzes were easy. He assumed that you knew what he was talking about half the time. I do not reccommend him
He's a horrible teacher, the only good thing is that he curved our tests, otherwise everyone would have failed because he can't explain things.
Hardest class I have ever taken simply because he is not good at explaining anything! He expects you to know everything like he does so even though it's basic chem, it's hard. I would recommend not having him if at all possible especially if you hate math and don't have an interest in chemistry.
All you really have to do is put a bunch of examples from the quizzes on your cheat sheet for the tests, and it's a breeze... and maybe go to class every once in a while. I'm happy to be done with all science classes, but at least this one was easy. It was pretty easy to get an A+.
Zona is not as bad as some are saying. Going to review sessions is KEY! They help a lot and so will he if you go to him. Just put examples on your cheat sheet and make sure you GO TO CLASS!
Everybody complains about him but those are usually the people that don't put any effort into it. This is college, most of its a self teaching kind of thing anyway. I hate chemistry but I went to class and did the homework and I ended up getting over a 100% in that class. You get out of every class what you put into it.
alright here's the deal. dude is crazy. he gets really frustrated when kids don't understand material, but he sucks at teaching. bottom line, cheat on quizzes. he curves all the tests and allows cheat sheets. take examples from the quizzes, make sure you can do all problems on the quiz! go to class and you'll be fine! i did no work and got a c!
never went still got a C
He would yell at our lecture when people did not understand. I got a B, but I hated the class. It is easy to cheat on the webCT quizzes, DO IT TO HELP YOUR GRADE. The tests are hard, but not unbearable. I hated him as a person.
Keys to success: 1.) Go to class! 2.) Print out the powerpoint notes beforehand 3.) ALWAYS write down the examples! (they will help you on the quizzes!) 4.) Share answers on the WebCT quizzes with your classmates and friends! 5.) GO TO STUDY SESSIONS!!! He will answer ANY questions...including those on the webCt quizzes!!! Those are my top 5 recommendations..if u follow those, u'll do fine in the class :)
This was the easiest class I have taken at ISU. Zona's class is very helpful for those who are not science majors. He takes the questions right off the quizzes and you get to use cheat sheets. So, if you can't take questions off quizzes and put them on to cheat sheets then you are going to be in trouble.

Ummm yea the only reason that I enjoy his class is for his hair. You'll never know what it looks like from day to day!
He's creepy.
At first you may not understand him and his lectures are boring, but his tests are exactly like the quizes. You get to take the quizes 3 times, the tests are curved, the labs are easy, I'm saying this and i go to class every other day! Take your time on the quizes and copy the answers to a note sheet. If you do them w/ some1 else they're a breeze!!
he was very unclear about the material and seemed to be unhelpful when asked questions
he is a cutie.
Gave pertinent information durring labs. Always answered questions with good answers.
He is a very cute teacher and a rare beast. Just go to class, print out the notes online. Go to study sessions do the online quizzes you should be find in the class. He goes over the quiz problems in study sessions and you got to use your cheat sheet on the tests it is easy.
awful teacher.. take otis instead if you can.. do NOT take zona!!!
i think that this guy is very unclear and If i would have known how he tught before i took this class i wouldn't have. he trys to explain it in a way were we all can understand but he fails miserably. Don't take him if you want to learn anything about chemistry. It won't work out for you. I give him and F. but he's nice. if you're independently s
Any one who complains that this class is hard is seriously just stupid.I'm not a smart guy.I have a 2.5 and got an A in that class.Literally, never went to class, showed up for the review sessions and made a bad ass cheat sheet from the online quizzes. My roommate has the same GPA as I do, has Otis, and is got a C.Heard Otis is good tho, so whichever.
Zona's not a bad teacher...he just makes you work. Hello people this is college, get used to it! If you do the quizzes, go to review sessions, make a good cheat sheet with quiz answers and actually Study--you'll do fine. No class required. Zona doesnt just give you the answers, he requires you to work for them. And he curves the tests--alot!
He's very unclear on just about every topic he teaches and goes WAY too fast. One bonus is that he puts the notes online though so you barely have to go to class. If you do though, look at his hair...it's the only thing that kept me awake.
I did not like this class. When you are in his class you are likely to get confused if you dont understand the material prior to comming to class. One good thing about the class is that he allows you to make a cheat sheet but i still would have rather taken Otis....
very helpful if you go to the review sessions, which i did not go to.. nor did i go to a single class. make a good cheatsheet and you'll be fine. i pulled off a B by only using me cheat sheet and doing quizzes. i'm not a chemistry person at all and got a B
Zona is very intelligent, unfortunately he doesn't always do a good job explaining things so we can understand. He gets sidetracked on unrelated science topics often and then isn't able to make it through that day's lecture. He's slow to put quizzes and notes up on webCT. Go to all his Review sessions. Take all online quizzes/tests for practice.
He was absolutely horrible. He doesn't know how to teach at all. The review sessions are only remotely helpful. I got D's on all the tests and I went to almost all of the classes and review sessions. He is a horrible teacher and I would recommend not taking him. He's very unorganized and irresponsible too.
Unorganized. I went to almost every class in the beginning and even when I was in class I couldn't understand anything he was saying. So then I just went to the review sessions because I got more out of them than I did class. Don't recommend him.
doesn't explain things very well..
tests are hard but he uses a big curve which helps a lot. Easy to get an A or B in if you use a good cheat sheet during tests. Don't miss the WebCT quizzes!
easy class if you make a good cheat sheet and go to the review sessions
Really bad. Boring
For the kind of class that was taught (auditorium) I found him helpful and presented dull info in a way that was palatable.
everyone who says they got bad grades in this class didnt get bad grades b/c hes a bad or difficult teacher but because they are STUPID people.the notes are all online(i never went to class), you get multiple tries to take online quizes and can bring a cheat sheet front and back for tests. also he is the funniest prof at ISU!!!
awesome teacher. i went into his class knowing a little bit about chem, but it was not enough. I didnt understand much he taught but ended up with a b in the class bc the online quizzes and review sessions helped. You get an entire sheet of paper with notes on it for the test, and all tests are mutiple choice with a huge curve. great guy too!
very easy class if you put the time into it. a lot of the questions on tests are very similar to the online quizzes. i never went to class because it was pointless and he posted notes online, but i got an A by going to review sessions. zona is funny and a nice guy. definitely recommend him as a teacher.
Mr. Zona is awesome! I highly reccomend him! I went to every class, mainly because he is entertaining and says the most random, hilerious things, but a lot of people didn't do that. He posts all the notes online and had weekly review sessions where he gives you answers to the online quizzes. He is awesome!
Awesome teacher. I never understood chemistry until him! His tests are all mutiple choice and you can use a cheat sheet. Great class-
The actual lectures are somewhat confusing/pointless unless you're really into chem. He's a really good teacher though in that he curves the test 15 points and let's you use cheat sheets which are lifesavers. The way to do well in this class is review sessions GO TO THEM. I never went to class, brought quiz questions to review and got over 100%
He's crazy, but all science teachers are. More importantly, he's very clear and concise on most things. The grading is very easy- with all the online quizzes and such you'd have to try not to pass. He uses powerpoints the whole time, which encourages people not to attend class, but you really have to or you'll be lost. Overall, a pretty good prof.
I never went to class because it never really helped me. I just printed out the notes that were online and taught myself from them. As long as you make a good cheat sheet from the notes you'll be all good. I got an A pretty easy. All the quizzes are online which made them really easy to do too.
He is entertaining in personaltity, but I found most lectures very confusing and found little help in attending them. Try to go, print out the powerpoints ahead of time, try to review and teach yourself. Also, I highly recommend going to the review sessions and attempting the review problems he sets up. On the cheat sheets, include online test q's.
easy A. you dont need to go to class, all the notes are posted online, review sessions are held every week. you even get a full page, front and back, cheat sheet for exams.
he's nice
Zona came off as a nice guy, but he is very difficult to understand. It was very difficult to achieve an A in his class. The girl teacher, Mrs. Swanson (I think), is a much better teacher, because she has more clarity and gives out study guides. Unless if you're already a Chem Wiz do not take this class.
He is an entertaining teacher. He does put his notes up online but I still went to class because he explains everything really well and he offers review sessions once a week. Easy class and i recommend taking it.
All notes are online...attendance is not mandatory... and u dont need to go to class at all...just go to the review sessions and ull be perfectly fine...all the quizzes are online are very easy...the labs are a joke...teacher is very entertaining....great guy...easy A if u put any effort into it at all...NEVER USE TEXTBOOK...DONT BUY IT ITS A WASTE
this guy is crazy! he's really nice and all that jazz, but he really doesn't explain any of the material very well. all of his online tests are simple, and all of the notes are online, but his in-class exams blow my mind every time i take them. go to the study sessions. they helped me immensely.
I was scared to take chemistry because i did so bad in highschool, but if you study AND GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS you can get an A. I got an A and i didnt go to most of the labs, the quizes are online, you can get the answers from friends... and you get three tries for each quiz.
Good teacher. Tests are a little difficult but all quizes are online and if you go to the review sessions he gives you everything you need to know for the test. You get a cheat sheet for each test. You dont have to go to class because he puts his notes online. Very helpful if you approach him
A very unique professor that makes class fun. Class can be a little tough but it is not to bad if you go to lectures and review sessions.
Good teacher. This class is so incredibly easy! You get a cheat sheet AND a 15 point curve. Guaranteed A! I have a new-found appreciation for this class after being in BSC 101 with Bettendorf! What a horrible teacher she is. TAKE ZONA IF YOU CAN!
He's AWESOME! You get a cheat sheet on EVERY test, plus take online quizzes, plus he goes over the test in review sessions! It's so easy to get an A in this class as long as you show up!
I LOVED this class!! I didnt like Chemistry in high school at all!! He related everything to the enviroment and how it related to our lives now. I am really interested in enviromental science! Which made me LOVE LOVE LOVE this class! Also- get answers to online quizzes with others- or do them together! labs and quizzes really boost your grade!
He is an interesting teacher. Its pretty easy to pass the class. I hate chemistry and though I was going to fail and ended up getting a B! Review Sessions are good. The only thing i didn't like was that he randomly calls on people in class!
This guy is crazy!! Very unorganized and tests were pretty hard!! Oh and you DO NOT need the book
Can't think of an easier class. You have to work for an A, but with online quizes, a FULL cheat sheet on tests, and weekly review sessions there is NO reason you shouldn't have a B. Anyone who gives Zona a bad score obviously didn't take advantage of the TONS of opportunities he gives you to succeed.
I hate chemistry but this class is pretty easy. I never go to lectures and am still getting an A. The notes and quizzes are all online and you get a cheat sheet for every test. He's a goofy guy which makes his class entertaining. He makes it pretty impossible to even get a D in his class.
Zona is crazy! I hate chemistry and I hated this class but he made it entertaining. Talks a million miles a minute during lectures, so try to keep up or just read the lecture notes online. Go to the review sessions, they help. Tries to make it easy for you to pass but the class is hard.
He is a very funny guy. Holds office hours as well as weekly evening review sessions. There are online quizzes which you can take three times and at the review sessions, he'll go ver each question and give the right answer. Cheat sheet both sides for tests, just copied quiz questions onto the sheet, test questions are a lot like the quiz questions.
He can't teach chemistry worth anyhting. Hes very smart, he just can't teach. He does give alot of extra points with online quizes and such, but his exams are hard. He doesn't round grades up. I was like .01 points away from a B and he didn't give it to me. I would definitely try to get the other chem teacher, shes much better.
never went to class... but somehow got an A in the class. Which is possible with some really good cheat sheets and nailing every online quiz and lab. basically... i got a 35% on a test and still mangaed ot get and A thanks to curves, extra credit, cheat sheets, word of mouth, and quizes and labs.
The class was pretty easy. You have to pay attention in class because sometimes he'll call on you to answer a question. A lot of note taking unless you print out the powerpoint slides. Test are short, but will test you. Good overall professor and class.
I loved Zona as a professor. The man is crazy but you can tell he loves what he's teaching. As long as you go to class and print out the notes ahead of time you'll be fine. For your cheat sheet just put on all the quiz questions and how to do them and you'll easily pass. Also, go to the review sessions. They are very helpful!
Apart from possibly being insane, this guy is the man. Extremely funny, he's able to make chem pretty interesting. The class is also really easy.
This class is SO easy. Puts all the notes online and lets you use a full sheet of paper (front and back) as a cheat sheet for every test. Put all the tables and equations from his powerpoints on your sheet. And put on the lecture quiz questions and how to do them! Take this guy if you can. He's hilarious and probably high 50% of the time. Easy!
class is easy if you understand everything, otherwise your completely clueless! online lecture quizes are easy if you go to weekly review nights he gives all the answers.. labs are pointless and easy A's. hes funny/on drugs probably! kinda sparadic too
his pretty entertaining !!! use blackboard post any info you know about all quizzes and lab answers and other people will too so its like a online study group, put all like definitions on the lecture quizes on your cheet sheet theres always alot of questions about those so with that youll get at least a 60
During class i never knew what he was talking about, but i did the online quizes and use those as a cheat sheet during the test and got A's everytime.
Entertaining teacher, but goes over things way to fast and isn't very clear. Find someone who understands things and have them explain it to you. The labs are useless and so is the $70 textbook he tells you to buy. Blackboard is very helpful, since you get the notes from there and don't actually need to attend the lecture.
the only good thing was you could easily cheat for all of his online quizes and redo it 3 times so there is no way to not get 100% on those.. labs were soo easy... however, i hated lectures and didn't go very often b/c when i wenti felt like i learned nothing... he is the defenition of mad scientist... very smart. makes no sense in explaining
The class was boring but easy. You get to use a cheat sheet for every test including the final and you can put anything on there; front and back of a normal piece of paper!I did not enjoy the class, and didn't go half the time, and still got an A.I did go to the review sessions before each test cause he goes over how to do everything from the quizzes
He is a good lecturer, but has difficulties actually being in his office during office hours. He tries to help you-but it has to be on his terms. He comes across nice, probably a nice person, but has difficulties explaining things further. His tests only have 20 questions and are shoved into 50 minutes-so know your stuff and make a good cheat sheet
He is a nice teacher. However the class is so hard. If you are not REALLY good at chem do not take this class. He is very confusing and flys through the math problems and how to actually figure them out. test are pretty hard. Quiz and lab are easy A's but they wont make up for the hard tests. I would suggest taking a different science!
Anyone who can't pass this class is seriously dense. You don't even need to go to class! He puts up his slides online. Read them. Don't read the book. Actually, don't even buy the book. Seriously. You can use a cheat sheet for every test (front and back of a piece of paper) so put everything from his slides onto your sheet. This guy is the man.
He allows cheat sheets which I recommend you put on all the practice problems and quiz questions. The practice problems are the key to this class because the test can be full of them. DO NOT BUY BOOK! a waste of money. all you need is to look at the notes and attend class.
This class sucked. Make sure you do the pre-lab, lab, and lecture quizzes. Those are easy As. Never went to lectures cuz I didnt understand what he was talking about anyway. Tests are very difficult but you get a cheat sheet. He does drop your three lowest lab or quiz scores which is nice. Overall really hard class and you should take something else
COOL DUDE. 15 point curve is a plus. Dont buy the book. He's off the walls attimes and expects you to know everthing. but i like him
I would never EVER take another class with him again. He tells you himself not to buy the book unless you are having trouble. He doesn't make any sense, flies through the material, and doesn;t care if you are doing badly or need help. He just puts a 15 point curve on the test to shut you up.
Funny teacher
Professor Zona is a very fun professor. He makes a lot of interesting references for materials that are not very easy. You have many opportunities to improve your grade. Having over a 100% at the end of the year is entirely possible. Highly recommended for CHE 102
NOT GOOD AT ALLL
If you took Chem in high school and did mildly well you will be fine in this class. I have not gone to class since the first lecture other than for tests and I have an A in the class. Just study the lecture quizzes, remember blackboard is your bff, get a tutor and i guarantee you will get an A too!
Hardest class ever. Never take chem with this man. He's a great guy in person, but doen't know how to teach at all. You have to learn every single thing by yourself. Exams are impossible unless chem is your major. Rambles, gets off topic, and doesn't update grades often. Take my advice and STAY AWAY FROM ZONA! I MEAN IT! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
This class is terrible. I got an A in high school chem, but Zona has no idea how to teach. He makes up his own ways to teach things and is not helpful whatsoever. He's funny and he's smart, but he's not a good professor. At all.
these people are crazy, theyre probably just mad cause you might actually have to go to class to understand it. i took chem last year with erika swanson and i failed it. retook it with zona and my semester grade is a 104%. each one of his tests was curved 15% and there was a 10% extra credit opportunity. plus hes funny as hell. id take it!
He is a great teacher really crazy, but a lot of fun with current events presented throughout class. Be sure to do all extra credit offered and for tests make sure you know all the online quiz answers and the study guide answers, if you know how to do that your good to go! Plus you get one cheat sheet for every test!
This can be extremely easy as long as you learn the material by attending lectures (like I did) or printing out the notes yourself. Zona ia highly entertaing so it's worth it to go to lectures. You never know what crazy thing he's going to say next. All lecture quiz answers are posted online = A's! Cheat sheets for tests so put examples of problems
He is not a very good teacher. he assumes that most people already know a lot about chemistry. jumps around in his lessons, hard to follow. he's very smart but is very complicated. offers review sessions that don't help much. only positive is that he curves the tests a lot because so many people fail them. avoid teacher if possible.
Hes a really funny guy, very smart as well. To get a good grade you actually have to study and go to review sessions, they help a lot. He isn't a bad teacher also.
Funny professor, gave out a web quiz a week but was super easy beacause you got three tries. Easy class as I took chem in high school, would recommend him as a professor! Also has study sessions the day before the exam to help you cram in case you need it!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Zona is hilarious! I went into the final with a 98.6 and garenteed A. All lecture quiz answers are posted &tests are easy if you figure out how to the math on the lecture quizzes before the tests. You get a wholesheet of paper for a cheatsheet! 15 point curve on every test! Just spend time on your cheat sheet and math and get an A!
Chemistry is a tough subject, and this guy didn't make it any easier. He assumes you remember how to do everything from chem in high school and doesnt spend adequate time teaching certain things. He does give a 15 point curve on every test though...probably would have gotten a C or a D in the class otherwise.
hilarious guy! there is so much material that he has 2 cover he goes super fast. Bring your laptop & download the powerpoint & take notes in the powerpoint bc w/pen & paper u will get nothing written. Go to the review sessions or get a tutor. u will need extra help outside of class 2 understand the material. go 2 the labs bc u get all the points
Take him. He is a really cool guy and is a lot easier to listen to than a lot of other professors I have had. All quizzes are online and you get multiple chances to take them so it's hard not to get a 100. Also for his tests you get a full page front and back cheatsheet and all tests are curved.
He knows what he's talking about, but can't teach it. He expects us to know stuff. The tests are very hard, and the material on the daily powerpoints is rarely on tests.
stopped going to class after about a month. lectures are confusing and hard to understand. tests are almost impossible but you get a cheat sheet everytime. quizzes are online and you get three tries. labs are every other week and super easy. zona himself is a wack job. i got a C in the class. curves every test
Great guy, hilarious. Hard to understand the concepts he teaches and the math espeacially. Quizes and labs were really easy to get A+ in but the class exams were difficult, i recomend studying mostly from the online quizes. got a B in the class but would take it with a different professor if i had to do it all over again.
Zona is an alright professor. The tests are kind of difficult, but he curves them a lot! He is pretty helpful and I would recommend going to the review sessions. As long as you look over the lecture quizzes before the tests it isn't too bad.
While he's a very smart guy, he can not teach AT ALL. The things that were talked about in class were rarely on the test. The tests are hard, but he curves them a lot. If you can take it with another teacher I highly recommend it!
zona is a trip. i got a c with out studying or going to class because he curves tests & everyone posts the answers to the online quizzes..
Honestly, if you do the work its an easy class. I recommend you try to do the online quizzes before everyone posts the answers. The only reason people struggle is because they never do anything. Just go to the review session before the test and put whatever is on the lecture quiz on your cheat sheets and you'll be fine. I got an A and never went
Zona is a nice guy and cares about you but he is not good at teaching his material. go to the review sessions before every test and put the equations on your cheat sheet(he allows it) plus he curves every test. so a good grade is manageable if you can keep up because he goes through material extremely fast
Great teacher! Didn't go to class except for tests and almost got an A. Do the labs, lecture quizzes, and HW and your golden
Zona is willing to offer tons of help and as long as you ask for help or go to the help sessions, you'll do fine in this class. Notes can be confusing. Over all though super nice guy, lots of fun as a teacher. I highly recommend him if your willing to do the help sessions!
Zona was a hysterical awesome teacher. I loved going to class because he made it so fun. Its a pretty easy class and if you ask, he will help you out a ton! I would definitely recommend him.
Zona is awesome! He is hilarious and crazy. lectures can be confusing and make you lost but he will explain anything you want and it very helpful. the best thing to do before a test is to go to the review session because he tells you what will be on the test and it is very helpful.
Zona is one of the funniest teachers. He is crazy/all over the place I enjoy him as a person but the material is pretty difficult if you dont recall much from high school chem. Tests are very difficult, all multiple choice, but he usually has a 15-17% curve which helps so much. You really have to study and go to the review sessions before tests.
He would teach of things that were completely irrelevant to the exam. And then when I took the exam it was all math and he hadn't really gone over that. I personally really struggled with him as a teacher.
Zona is the man, he runs a very fun lecture, and is extremely entertaining throughout the year. The tests are very difficult but they are each curved by at least 15% each. The final is not very hard and is curved by roughly 20%. If you are looking to easily pass by with a C or B take Zona
Zona is a fantastic teacher, we all know science isn't to interesting but he just crazy and makes it enjoyable. His tests are somewhat hard but are curved so it makes up for it, he has practice problems all over blackboard and has some extra credit. Not a hard class at all and idk why people are bagging on him
Zona is an awesome teacher. I hated chemistry in high school but having him in college made the course soo much more funn. He is FULL of knowledge and know everything about anything! There is no attendance taken but i encourage you to go if you want an easy A. He is very patient with his students and answers any question asked even if its stupid.
Horrible. I dreaded going to this class. I couldn't understand him when he talked, and he talked really fast. I've never been good at Chemistry, and this just sent me downhill.
Doesn't take attendance, but I'd recommend going. Everything is pretty much online. I've tried emailing him before & he doesn't always reply. Go to review sessions-they're really helpful. You get 3 tries to do the hw/quizzes. Should get A's on them. Notes are online-which makes going to class hard. Overall, it's an OK class.
Mr. Zona is an excellent teacher and knows what he is talking about. The only reason people don't like this class is because they don't understand chemistry at all. If you ever had any experience with chemistry, he should be a great teacher for you.
easiest A ever. everything is online he drops the lowest test and 3 homeworks or whatever. tests are 20 questionsish and he curves them. got 100 on every test because of that. go to the review.
I only took chem because no other science would fit into my schedule and let me tell you- I am more than happy to be in it. He makes the lectures interesting and the class is easy. If you ever get confused with math/formulas use the online textbook. It's saved me before. Tests, quizzes, and homeworks are all easy
I only took this class because it was the only one that fit in my schedule. I do not comprehend Chemistry at all. We are like mortal enemies. He is a good professor. He does what he can to explain everything and make sure you understand, but you also have to make an effort as well. He curves everything, doesn't take attendance, but tries to help!
I rarely went to class because I did not learn anything from him. I had to teach myself pretty much everything. He confuses me but he does try to help. Luckily he curves everything.
Dr Z is a great guy! This class will demand that you work for it, but with a decent amount of work it is difficult to not pass this class. Homework and Lab/Lecture Quizes are online, and he drops the lowest 3. While attendance isn't mandatory, it is highly reccomended if you don't understand chem to show up. He offers weekly study review sessions.
Dr Z is a great guy! This class is easily passable with some work. Offers weekly study sessions at night as well as drops lowest 3 lab/lecture quiz and hw grades. Of all the work, most is done online where you're offered 3 chances to get a perfect score.Overall he is willing to work with you if you are willing to work with him. Overall a great guy.
Dr. Zona is awesome. Lectures aren't mandatory, but recommended to go to. He posts all of the powerpoints online as well. Tests were very short and right to the point and lets you use a cheat sheet. I received a high A without any problems.
He is a really cool guy and knows what he is talking about. However his class was boring. I had teach myself. Is an easy B, all you have have to go to the class and review sessions. Good Luck!
Lectures can be very boring. Download the power points before hand and take notes on the power point. Make sure you are keeping up with assignments online as well as pre-lab quizzes. And then use those lecture quizzes and homework quizzes online to help you study. If you are struggling early, just get a tutor, but I had no problem.
Lectures were pretty boring but he put notes online before class so it made note taking easy. Lecture and homework quizzes online, get three tries.. easy points. First two exams were basically review of high school chemistry, third one little difficult. Get full sheet of paper cheat sheet on every exam. Got an A easily.
He is a great guy and great professor. He wrote his own textbook, he uploads all power points the morning before each class. He is very understanding and strives to help his students. He also is entertaining with his occasional funny statements and sometimes he'll bring his cool dog Django. The labs are simple & straight forward. A+ teacher
got over 100% in this class and almost never went. do the extra credit and review for the tests a bit and youll be fine.
He is a really good teacher and funny guy. The only problem I had with him is that he expected you to already have prior knowledge about chemistry. He reminded everyone everyday that they should have already learned this in high school.
Difficult, you have to be willing to get tutoring and teach yourself.
Different presentations than what I was used to, eventually got used to his teaching style.
He takes forever to post test grades, sometimes up to two weeks. Tests are not too bad, plus he always curves them so my low grades always moved up. I could not understand what he was saying in lecture so it was basically pointless to go to class. An A or B is easy to get in this class as long as you have some idea what you are doing. GOODLUCK
This Chemistry class is difficult. Prof. Zona has a Very confusing system for grading. Very difficult tests mostly Math. Curves every test. You MUST STUDY HARD.
We were herded like cattle because there were 200 of us, times 3 sections. Tests are basically cross-multiplying proportions. I liked the e-textbook. Labs were interesting although Zona never handled lab stuff. Test scores wouldn't get posted for at least a week and his grading system was bizarre. All assignments were online.
Zona is a great teacher and he has a lot of passion towards Chemistry. However sometimes it seems that he is too smart to be teaching this class. The content can get difficult and although I'm a straight A student I struggled in this class. You definitely have to study the online quizzes in order to do well on the tests.
He was a good teacher, it was just a hard class. He also gives a lot of work. Brings his dog to class sometime which is funny.
he does not respond to emails, he is hardly there for office hours, he rambles during lectures, go get a tutor like I did and you will do okay!
really nice guy, very eccentric but not a good teacher. doesn't explain things well and expects you to know things beforehand even though it's an intro class. doesn't ever respond to emails. you can take online quizzes and tests 3 times.
This class was super easy! He posts the power point lecture online. There are online homework assignments and quizzes, but you have multiple submissions and can work with people. Also, the exams are exactly like the online hw! You have to attend a minimum of 3 labs, but they are super easy. Should be decent at math too.
Zona is the man! I suggest going to lecture because you can grasp some of the material, more than you would trying to teach yourself. The people that don't do good in the class do not go to his REVIEW that he has every week. Exams are curved by 12-15 points. This class is an Easy A over BSC 101! A lot of my friends complained about BSC 101.
Zona's a nut. He's hilarious. If you know chemistry you'll be fine. All the exams are off the lecture quizzes and if you join the fb page/study blue all the answers for those are on there. Labs are easy all you have to do is show up
Great teacher! My favorite teacher that I have had at ISU. Makes class fun to go to. If you have a small grasp on chemistry you should be fine. Weights every test. There's online homework, which you get 3 chances to do. Pretty simple!
such a cool guy, but too smart for his own good & doesn't know how to communicate with college students who aren't as smart as him. very fair, curves all tests and offers extra credit as well as drops 3 lowest grades. really funny guy tho & great teacher to have for a lecture. to keep your interest
I loved Zona!! I am not a chem person at all but this class was so basic that you didn't need much background. Exams are all curved and online assignments are almost impossible not to get 100 on. I usually could get away with not attending lecture and just going to the review session and looking over powerpoints before the exams.
He is very rude and unwilling to help students. My first homework assignment and lecture quiz did not appear on ReggieNet and he wouldn't fix it. He calls on random students in lecture so pay attention! The labs were the easiest portion of the class, but the tests were the hardest because they were almost always all math problems.
Not a very good teacher, he goes really quickly and expects students to know exactly what he's talking about. Calls on random students all the time during class and makes you look dumb. Labs are easy, only reason i passed this class was study blue. Didnt even attend the last 3 weeks of lecture
He is a really helpful teacher, has weekly review sessions and let's you use a cheat sheet for every test. Also drops a certain number of your lowest grades on homework and labs. However if you don't want to randomly be called on you have to wear gray and hide during class because he calls on anyone who stands out.
Went to class a total of 3 times for the exams online, all you have to do is fill out a cheat sheet for each test which is allowed and its the easiest A at ISU.
Do you enjoy failing? Then you will love Chem 102 with Zona! His lectures have almost no relevance to the course material, and is incredibly unclear. He never answers email. The in class exams are nearly impossible. The only reason I got a decent grade in this class was because of the online homework. Avoid this class.
By far the easiest class I've taken. If you can absorb knowledge by reading the powerpoints and not listening to his seemingly meth-fueled lectures then you'll be fine. Got 100+'s on all 3 exams and never studied more than an hour per exam. All the online stuff is online so easy 100's. In my opinion easy A but terrible professor.
Wouldn't recommend him. He's enthusiastic about Chemistry and knowledgeable about it, but he's a poor teacher. The only reason I did well is because everything he assigns online is easy. I took AP Chem in high school and I struggled with this. The material is so irrelevant to "chemistry and society". I would not recommend him for this class.
WORST teacher in the world. Doesn't respond to emails, is not clear about what will be on exams. The only reason I ended up with a B is because of the curve and all the online homework. I had anxiety the whole semester about this class as you can't really predict your grade until the end of the semester. He needs to get his life together.
Zona didn't respond to my emails even a week later. He is nice though. Even though the lectures are long and boring, you should go because it is harder to teach yourself the information. Use StudyBlue for the online assignments. Almost all of the answers are on there. Study for the tests, even though you can have a help sheet.
I would not recommend this class at all. He talks quite fast during lectures so it is hard absorb any material. And he hardly covers what's going to be on the tests in lectures so studying is a nightmare. Overall, most students struggle in this class so I would advise not to take it.
He is a really nice guy and super nice. Doesn't respond to e-mails barely ever. Lectures are long and pointless. All his notes are online and he doesn't take attendance. All quizzes and homework's are online and easy to get an A+, you get 3 tries to submit each of your tests or assignments.
He calls on people who catch his eye--wear grey. He talks really fast, but if you follow along you can understand. He posts all of the powerpoints on Reggienet. He goes over all the material at the review session, and you can always ask questions.
This is class is easy if you go to the weekly review sessions, study all the lecture quizzes and homework, and make a really good cheat sheet. Zona is a different type of teacher... don't wear bright colors or anything that sticks out because he will call on you randomly
Zona is hilarious, and very cool. HOWEVER, he is extremely hard to follow and has invented his own "branch" of chem. This class won't be easy. Personally, if i could go back. I wouldn't take it again
He assumes you already know everything and barely spends anytime explaining the concepts. Yes, you can attend review sessions or get help but this is a gen ed class and is WAY harder than it needs to be. Labs are easy but the lecture part of the class was a struggle. Definitely not a blow off class.
Zona's test weren't extremely hard, just go to the review sessions and pay attention in class. I got a tutor before hand anyway to help me understand more clearly. If you fail a test, its no big deal. 1) He curves them and 2) there are so many online homework quizzes and lecture quizzes to take that you get three chances to do that will help grade.
hardest class I've ever taken and i went to class every single day. everything he said would go in one ear and out the other. you don't really have to go to class because all the notes are on line but its already confusing enough if you do attend i can't imagine how hard it would be if you didn't show up. he also calls out random people. good luck!
I skipped most of his classes due to how boring the lectures were. I showed up to all of my labs and since he allowed us to fill out one piece of paper with all of the notes to use for the test, I passed the class with an A. Very easy class.
Zona is the best. He makes class entertaining and as long as you participate and come to class, you'll do great. Just don't wear any distinct clothes to class.
You probably notice that the ratings for Zona are all over the spectrum. Many say "It's so easy" some say "Hardest thing I've ever done".... Well.... I fall into the second category. But don't be scared off. I struggled because I'm awful at chem. Others are good at it. If you like chem, it'll be easy. But i struggled beyond imagination. Very hard.
Unless you really understand chem, this class is going to be difficult to follow. Zona speaks scientific mumbo jumbo making it hard to understand his lectures. On the bright side, all of the assignments are online and the answers are on studyblue. He also allows you to use a cheat sheet on all exams including the final.
Pay attention because its easy to doze off in his lectures. Do not do this class by yourself. Make sure you have people to work with for the online hw, lecture quizzes, and exam reference sheets. Do those 2 things and you will finish with an A. Personally, I took over a 100% in the class.
If you do the work, you get an A. Easily. All the assignments and quizzes are online, they aren't that long. He makes jokes often, and will call on random people in the lecture. He lets you create and cheat sheet for every exam so take advantage of it and you will glide right on through.
Really don't have to go to lectures. DO NOT make eye contact with him when he is about to ask a question. HE WILL call on you. If you don't get at least a B in this class then you really didn't try. Would recommend him for this class.
Zona is a funny crazy guy. Im almost positive he does coke but he is the best Chem teacher you could ask for. You have homework every week and a lecture quiz every week, all online. The quiz's get hard but the answers are online so you can just look them up. I never went to class and got C's on all my test so I got a C in the class.
Zona has to be the funniest person. I never went to class. He gave homework and test online every week and there is no way you can't get an A on those. I bombed every test in his class and still ended with a B in his class. I only went to class on test days honestly.
Zona is a great teacher. If you didn't take chem in high school, be sure to study hard. He tries to explain everything as best he can and holds review sessions to help prepare you for the tests. Zona is too smart for what he is doing and should be teaching grad students. I enjoyed going to lecture as he made it entertaining and worthwhile.
Professor Zona was a good teacher but the class really confused me. He went very quick through problems and was hard to grasp concepts at the speed he was going at. The tests were personally difficult but with the online quizzes and homework and labs even if you do poorly on the tests you be fine in the class.
Coolest dude ever. The equations and mathematical problems are what will probably give you the most trouble on his tests because moves through the material pretty quick during lectures. Although he does move quick, he gives his class numerous opportunities to get help and really just wants everyone to pass.
Hated this class and he made it very unclear. I've been scraping by all semester. He can be funny at times but doesn't really know how to clearly teach Chem. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Ok so zona is like so pumped about chemistry and loves what he does but sometimes he just assumes you know all of the terms he uses so ASK QUESTIONS if you dont! I hate science so much but as long as you do the homework and go to class you will pass. He gives an extra credit quiz at the end of the year, AND he curves the tests by like 20 points!
Zona is extremely smart when it comes to chemistry. Probably too smart to be teaching an entry level gen ed course. I was totally lost in lecture all semester, but if you do the homeworks (which are usually the same amount of points as the tests), you could pull an A. Definitely go to his review session and definitely get all the homework points!
Zona is a good teacher, even though he rambles on at some points. You get a full piece of paper as a cheat sheet for the tests, make sure you go back through the lecture and homework quizzes to help you fill that out. Overall it's an easy science gen ed. With the curve, the lowest test grade I got was 100% and I ended up with 103% overall.
He's literally a genius! Zona is hilarious & makes sure the course isn't boring! He has a wiener dog (& brings it to class on occasion.) Tests are hard as well as the lecturehomework quizzes. Study with others, go to the review sessions before tests, & ask for help! He's a really down to earth guy, & is so knowledgeable on the subject matter.
Go to the labs & lectures. Do the pre-lablab & lecture quizzes & STUDY for tests - they are super hard! Zona is really funny & ask for help if you need it. He'll give it to you!
He'll call you out in front of the entire lecture to answer questions.
Great teacher! You don't really need to show up -- although I did -- because every Wednesday he hosts a review session were you can get homework questions and lecture quiz questions answered, and those questions are almost exactly what you will see on the tests. Tommy boy is a good teacher and its HARD not to get at least a B in his class.
Super easy class almost all the answers to lecture quizzes and homework are online. He posts all powerpoint notes online which helps if you miss class, attendance isn't mandatory but it definitely helps. Also has review sessions every week, you get a cheat sheet for exams, drops a few of your lowest lab, quiz or hw grades. Overall great professor
Zona is very passionate about Chemistry. Will definitely help you if you need it, but if you come to class and pay attention, the course isn't very hard. Has review sessions before every exam.
Zona isn't put together. Check your grades almost every day because something will always be wrong. He is a nice guy and does crack jokes. But I find him pretty condescending to students who aren't well advanced in math.
A little bit tough, but if you try and have someone to study with, you will do well. He was always open for questions. During class, you may get confused at times, but after he explains a concept he asks if anyone needs him to clarify anything a little more - speak up. He does move very fast through his slides. Has review sessions every week.
He's actually a pretty bad teacher. He doesn't teach you really, just reads off the powerpoint and you'll be screwed for the test. He likes to randomly call on people. Barely anyone goes to the class because the lectures are online, and its super boring to sit in there when you have no clue what you're doing. I learned nothing from the class.
I was worried about Chemistry 102 before I took the class, but it turns out there is nothing to be worried about IF you do the work. Actually do the problems on the online quizzes and homework, and go to the review sessions! Zona curves the test so much (once 18 points!), so I found it easy to get over a 100. I would recommend.
This class was pretty awesome. It's pretty hard to get lower than a B. He allows you to have a standard piece of paper for a cheat sheet, and has study sessions every week. I think the sessions were really beneficial. Go to class, because it helps when you are confused. Labs were easy. Only used the online book to take prelab quizzes. Awesome guy
Zona is pretty cool. I went to almost all of the classes, but I didn't pay any attention. I was scared for my grade for a little bit but the curves he gives, the extra credit, and the dropped grades saved me.
He offers "labs" where you can take your homework or lecture notes and ask questions. He makes himself accessible to students who are struggling in the course.
Honestly, lectures didn't help me at all. He calls people out in class, and he's pretty confusing, but he's a great guy. He's really funny, and it's obvious he's passionate about the subject. He offers a ton of help; it is almost too easy to receive an A in this class, you just have to use your resources and work for it.
For non major students and those who have only briefly touched upon Chemistry, I would avoid taking this class so you don't end up lost mid-semester. You can see he loves his job and he loves Chemistry which is good for those who empower that energy, but lectures are confusing and intimidating when calling students out.
He seems a bit everywhere at once, but the class will probably be the easiest you will get in chemistry.
I think Zona is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is really passionate about chemistry and actually kept me very interested during lectures. GO TO THE LECTURES!! You will be lost if you don't. I went to every single one and I still thought the tests were hard. However, I recommend Zona to everyone. Great professor.
Zona is a very intelligent guy. He understands that we are only taking this class to fulfill a gen-ed requirement so he adjusts the classes grading scale to accommodate this. He drops 3 of the lab grades and lets you use a full page cheat sheet on every test. Also, he has huge curves on every test. There are review sessions before every test.
Zona is a pretty great professor. Although chemistry isnt that exciting, he trys to be funny during lectures. Beware, because he calls on random people during class to answer questions, so pay attention! 3 tests are only 20 questions and we get a whole sheet of paper for a cheat sheet (front and back side!). Helpful review sessions on lecture quizs
Little unorganized at times. You get a cheat sheet for every test that is a whole piece of paper. Huge curve on tests. All the homework/lecture quiz answers are online.
Zona is so passionate about Chemistry and really wants to help his students succeed. Each test you can use a full front and back piece of paper as a cheat sheet. He holds weekly study sessions. Go to class and the tests will be so easy. The online assignments are the study tools. Tests are curved extremely. Required final.
Zona is a easy teacher. If you go to lectures material is not hard at all. the hardest math is cross multiplying and dividing. 3 very easy tests with a full cheat sheet and huge curve (hint: use homework and lecture quiz q&a's).Hw and lecture quizzes were easy, 3 tries on each. Only need to go to three labs all semester. This class helps your GPA.
Zona was a great teacher! The rating here are bad for no reason. He is very clear and always wants to help but students just dont seek it. Great guy. Funny as hell. The lectures can be boring but its nothing too hard from High School.
Zona is a great professor! Show up to lecture, follow along in the notes and do the examples provided during them, and do the online homework and lecture quizzes. He allows a full page cheat sheet, front and back, for each test. Also, you only go to lab once every other week. He explains things thoroughly, so just pay attention and you'll be fine!
He is a good teacher and has study sessions each week to make sure you know what you are talking about. All the homework and quizzes and lecture tests are online. Chapter tests are in class and you are able to use a cheat sheet for each test
He's not the greatest teacher but the way he scores exams and quizzes makes the course significantly easier to pass.
Here's the deal... Chem sucks, but it's not really Zona's fault that it sucks. He's probably one of the more enthusiastic teachers I've had. Go to class and the review nights and you'll pass. Also, don't forget the prelab quizzes that are inconveniently on a completely separate website which you will likely never use otherwise.
He's an average professor. Not great, but not horrible either. He does want his students to succeed. Test are extremely hard, but if you do the homework assignments and lecture quizzes it's kind of hard to fail.
Thou shalt take Chem 102. Being a non-chemistry major, I was worried about how hard this class would be. I admit, it was difficult. As long as you pay attention and take advantage of his review sessions (one of the best ideas) you should be well off. His accent and expressiveness is enough to keep your attention while the lectures take hold!
Overall an easy class. I skipped all the lectures so I'm not sure how he is as a teacher. Lots of quizzes on reggienet + lab grades + 3 tests + final. He's pretty generous with his grades and theres a lot of wiggle room, and he curves his exams. A decent choice!
He's a super chill dude, he curves grades like mad. I made it with a bunch C's on my exams only because the curve. Without, I would have gotten D's. Lecture notes are online, so if you skip class it's not a big deal (but you should still go). He has review sessions every week that are helpful.
Honestly only went to class on test days. He allows a full page front and back cheat sheet for all of his tests, use that to your advantage. Put lots of examples of math problems on there. Go to his reviews and write everything down- that's where you'll get some good examples. Online homework weekly. I pulled off an A, it's very possible.
Nice guy who cares about students doing well in the class. He always makes himself available and holds review sessions every week that can really help.
Go to class and take good notes. You'll find that the tests are similar to the online homework and quizzes. Great for your cheat sheet. Funny guy and likes to call out the people who aren't paying attention. It's easy to get an A if you are intelligent enough to actually do the work. You can get a C on at least one exam the way he grades...
Professor Zona is an example of an educator who cares about his work, yet also has realistic expectations for his students. All the homework and quizzes are online and has optional attendance for his lectures. He has a very light hearted and comical personality that makes him a charismatic instructor.
Awesome teacher! He is very lenient and makes sure you will pass. He has a good sense of humor and made class as fun as it could be. I attended every lecture and I am earning an A. I suggest going to class and not just using answers to homework from people. He knows what he is talking about and is an overall good guy and teacher.
Literal greatest professor at isu. Tries his hardest to make sure everyone passes by curving the heck out of every test. Don't take this class with any other professor. Very funny and caring guy as well.
The class is an easy B if you don't try, but with a little effort you can get the A. Zona actually cares about all his students and holds review sessions. Your final grade is made up of many online homework assignments(all very easy),labs(again so easy all you have to do is show up with the completed prelab), and about 3 exams which aren't too hard
He clearly cares about science and tries to make the lectures engaging and fun. It's sad watching him teach students who don't care (general education requirement). The class should be an easy A if you just listen in class. Out of class work is heavy. He allows a full page of notes going into each exam and drops a bunch of your lowest grades.
Funny guy, tries to get students excited about the material.
Zona is honestly the best professor I have ever had. He is passionate about his lectures despite knowing that over half the class doesn't give a rat's ass. He tries to make everything interesting to everyone. His lectures aren't mandatory due to their size but they are very helpful. GO TO THE LABS! EASY POINTS!
Dr. Zona is a charismatic professor. He really cares about his subject, and it was nice to have an actual professor instead of a grad student. It's mandatory to buy the textbook to access labs, but if you come to all the lectures, you shouldn't need to use it except for some review, and vice versa
I did not like the way he lectured, but all the lecture powerpoint were online. There are a lot of homework assignments, but they are all online. The tests are tough, but the way he calculates the grades makes it extremely easy to get an A or a B.
Class is an easy A. Anyone getting a bad grade decided to go out drinking the night before class all semester and only made it to 2 class periods. The material is simple equations that you can write down on a cheat sheet. Anyone saying this is difficult is at fault.
Stay on top of the work, find the facebook page for the course. You will want that!
This class is easy if you put in the effort. He is a good professor and tries to make the lectures interesting. A lot of students dont show up or copy from the FB page and wonder why they fail exams (which are similar to the homework and quizzes he assigns online.) Not only do you get a cheat sheet for every exam, he drops some low scores. Easy A
You get graded on labs, online homework, online lecture quizzes, and exams. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. The textbook is online, and no required reading, but definitely recommend him if you're taking chem. I suck at chem but he's an enjoyable professor and extremely helpful. Also drops a lot of your lowest scores, it's hard to do bad.
Everything is online which is nice but he terrible at explaining things.
The class itself isn't bad because of the facebook page but he is horrible at explaining concepts. The tests are 20 questions and not that bad with the cheat sheet and you don't ever really have to go to class. When you do go be prepared to get called on.. and he doesn't let you go easy. He drills you with questions until you say the right answer.
I attended every lecture and still struggled a lot on the tests and quizzes. Zona means well but he was really hard to follow, if you're taking his class and aren't that good at chem I would suggest getting outside tutoring. Thankfully though he rounded every test including the final, without that I would have probably gotten a C in the class.
He is kind of crazy kind of funny, I ended up having to see a tutor to just understand what he was saying in his lectures, the only reason a lot of my classmates passed is because of the facebook group that has answers, I never looked at the group but everyone was aware of it. The course itself is easy when you filter through the nonsense
If you fall behind in this class it is super difficult to catch up. Zona does host review sessions once a week and those can be helpful. If you go to class pay attention, he likes to call random people out and won't stop until he gets the answer he is looking for.
Zona is actually a great professor. I just hate chem and had no motivation to do well in his class. He hosts review sessions, gives cheat sheets for exams, and answers questions if you have any. He truly does care about his students, even when they don't care about his class. Join the facebook group, you'll pass.
One of the hardest classes I took this semester. I went to class and still had no idea what was going on. Your better off skipping and teaching yourself. If you do the hw your fine he gives extra credit at the end of the semester.
You have to put the work in to pass. Use the Facebook page for help (has answers to online quizzes) but learn how to do everything (otherwise you're screwed). Not mandatory to attend class but it helps and go to the review sessions when you need help. He wants you to succeed but it can be challenging
Zona is absolutely crazy and its great. His classes aren't mandatory, though the lab was. There is homework that helps with the grade. He allows you (at least when I went) to have a cheat sheet on tests and the final was literally the final study guide in a different order.
Great guy really nice, would practice multiple problems to make sure you understood how to do it. Lowest lab grade and lowest test grade are dropped for an easy grade boost. Extra credit opportunity given at the end of the semester. For lecture make sure you put your phone away its really easy to get distracted.
Zona is totally crazy, but in the best way. He cares a lot about chemistry and loves his job. If you put in at least a little work it is impossible to fail. He is a little confusing but will explain if asked to. He will randomly call on you in lecture, so beware of that, he will make you answer even if you have absolutely no idea what's going on!
Dr. Zona does not seem to care much that his students understand the material. He has the "I don't know what to tell you" attitude if you don't understand it and even ask questions. He does have review sessions GO TO THEM. He teaches more in the review session than the actual lecture. Also there are quizlets for almost all of the reggienet quizzes
Zona is a great professor and makes the class easy to pass. If you go to every lecture, take notes, and do the online homework you will pass. The homework problems closely match what will be asked on the tests which is helpful.
He's a very funny professor, that knows what he's talking about. It's benefitial to go to his optional review session(they really help!). You can find most of the homework and lecture quizzes online. It's not a stressful class if you do the work/bring your cheat sheet to tests.
Overall terrible class. He's bad at teaching and gives way too many homework assignments and quizzes. One of the worst experiences I've had. I have never regretted taking a class more in my life.
Dont waste time in lecture. Show up to labs and join the facebook group. You'll be fine as long as you have four braincells
Hes funny and he knows what hes talking about. Attendance isnt required in lectures but if you dont go you definitely wont know whats going on. Although its kinda hard to follow him in lectures, go to the review sessions he holds because things will make more sense. Sometimes he doesnt reply to emails if it regards your grade.
A very funny cool guy but when it came down to lectures... he just rambles which makes you not want to come. when you dont come you do bad on test. You are allowed cheat sheets but they barely help. Take it only if you are good at science and math.
Use your resources to your advantage. This class for me was very easy. All homework assignments are online but make sure you know how to do them for tests. Zona is a funny guy but picks students at random to answer questions in class so beware.
Kind of a goofy guy but he has a good heart. He is completely unreachable outside of lab so that sucked. His TA was the most unhelpful person, not really Zona's fault.
If you have anxiety being called on in class, DO NOT take him. He will call on people randomly, and if you have the wrong answer, he will not let you off the hook and will gradually spoon feed you the correct answer, which can be embarrassing. Alot of stuff is online. Get 100 on labs and homework (easy) and you're almost guaranteed at least a B.
Personally, I didn't like him as a teacher, but thats because I have social anxiety and he randomly calls on people to answer during lecture, which I don't like. So I never went to class. I googled all the answers to homeworks/quizzes, then studied hard for the exams and passed with a B. Join the FB group, they post sample exams which are similar.
Go to lecture (he randomly calls on people, so beware) and lab, actually understand the online assignments, and create a thorough cheat sheet and this is an easy A. He drops some grades and curves the tests by at least 10%. People make this class way harder than it needs to be.
Zona is a good guy and he's pretty funny but his lectures are hard to follow and I don't learn much. The homework and quizzes are super easy but the test are hard!!! You get a cheat sheet but even with that I did awful on the test! The labs are super easy and are counted for participation. Go to his review sessions they help a lot.
He always calls on people and sometimes makes fun of them. He doesn't explain problems clearly. You will only get good grades on the online quizzes answers are online. Take another teacher who will actually help you.
He's such a funny and nice guy, but it's hard to understand his lectures sometimes. He tends to sometimes gets off topic, and calls on people randomly. If you don't know the answer he tries explaining it in different ways until you get it. His test are a little hard, so be careful.
If you aren't good with science I would recommend going to class.
He randomly calls on people in and often makes fun of students if they give a poor answer to what he's asking. Some girl cried when he roasted her the first week of class. The tests are pretty difficult, so go to the review sessions all semester if you want to pass. Don't skip any homework or labs. Would recommend taking another prof if possible.
Just look online for all the answers every homework assignment and lecture quiz is online ! But he dont respond to email at all ! Going to lectures wont help you unless you go to office hours
He cold calls people in class which made me anxious (I managed to never get called on the whole semester). He curves the tests and the final which was really helpful, he also lets you have a reference sheet for these. All of the answers to the homework and lecture quizzes are online. Go to the review sessions because they are extremely helpful.
Show up to lectures and take notes and it is an easy A. Great professor, super funny and very knowledgeable. He lets you have a cheat sheet (front and back) for every test. He does quizzes online and you get 3 attempts for every quiz. Literally cannot get easier than this.
He actually made chemistry enjoyable. Very funny and easy going. Beware he does call out on people for questions.
Zona is a great professor and it's clear he is passionate about Chemistry. I struggled with this class because I had no chemistry background whatsoever and his lectures can be long, which made it difficult to stay focused. If I had a dollar for every time I said "I have no clue what's going on" I could pay off my student loans.
You have to buy an access code to do some of the assignments. Also, you'll have to print a fair bit of stuff off for the labs. However, each exam is curved AT LEAST 10% and I found them all extremely easy because the problems are all from the homework and you can bring a sheet of notes for each exam. I just wrote a ton of examples on mine.
Class was fine until COVID. A bit better in-person, but Zona dumps difficult assingments online and expects you to know how to solve complex equations through bad PPT slides. Wouldn't have taken this course if I didn't have to (I'm a comp. sys. major, not a chem major); strongly advise you don't take it with Zona unless you like difficult chem.
Calls randomly on students but I just sat in the back and never got called on. Labs are easy. Lets you use a cheat sheet on the test and curves them. Go to the review sessions.
this man is a legend he pulled out a foot long tube, filled it with water, and did an experiment with it. this got the class's attention then he pulls out a 10 foot tube and does it again and the class went wild class with zona is exciting and he's very enthusiastic, and you don't need a clicker either
Online classes are hard enough but this professor has zeros for things I've done, done, and due dates for lectures don't line up with tests and labs. I was doing a lecture assessment for a lecture due that day and apparently that meant I was 3 lectures behind for the lab we were doing. It's not a hard class, it's him that is destroying my grades.
So I have only had Zona for the online portion of his class. So far he provides lecture videos and then after the videos you take a lecture quiz. Then every other week there is a Lab with a Lab video and then a prelab quiz in between. Everything is fairly simple, just stay on top of your assignments and it's an easy A. He is also very entertaining.
mr zona is very interesting. I have him for online classes and he never answers emails or gives you a straight answer on anything but I have the say the class is surprisingly easy.
Zona's online class is easy. Each week there are lecture videos that have a corresponding lecture quiz that has 3 tries with instant feedback. There are pre-lab quizzes that must be taken in the ebook. There are a few exams, but answers come directly from lecture videos and ebook chapters. Also a few simple labs. Easy! Just watch his videos!!!
He was really laid back and understanding. He struggled a bit with online teaching but did ok. Willing to give help and is very passionate about the topic!
Awful professor. Will not work to help you if you are struggling in class. Don't bother emailing him because he'll give you a two-word response. All lectures were pre-recorded. Quizzed on material he didn't lecture on. If you can choose a different professor, choose a different professor.
Every lecture has an attached assignment. The zoom lectures never taught us anything. Outside help helped me get through this semester
He didnt really care about the students at all but was laid back and didnt overload to much homework. All assignments besides pre labs are easily accessible and this class should be easy to pass
Professor Zona does a good job of explaining the material. Its really up to you to be a good student- attend class, take good notes, pay attention, and ask for help when needed. I wouldnt say Im a strong science student, but I managed to get an A and its because I attended office hours when I needed and I made sure I understood the concepts.
He was an amazing professor. He was always fun during the lectures even though they were online and they weren't mandatory. There was a facebook page where everyone helped each other on the assignments and the exams.
Chemistry was fun with Zona. He always gave us loads of opportunities to pass with late night review session, office hours and multiple attempts at homework. Labs were straightforward and overall, well structured and balanced. Lecture assessments are key for passing those tests and he makes sure to keep everything similar and no surprises.
Standard lecture class. Only 2 tests, midterm & final. He does quizzes on Reggie after every lecture though. Worst thing about him is that he calls on random people during his lectures & gets upset when you dont know the answer.
If you're looking for science gen eds at ISU, I would not recommend this one. It seemed like Zona was always in a bad mood and would take it out on students when they didn't know what was going on. This class is easy if you feel like paying attention, but there are better classes to pay attention to.
He calls on random people in class and it sucks. He called on me 3 separate times and the third time I didnt know the answer. He embarrassed me in front of the class and took his anger out on me.
Dr. Zona is a great professor. super funny and lovable guy. Hes an amazing lecturer and understands what the student mindset is like. Beware of his assessments as theres one every day of lecture due in a weeks time. However, most are found on quizlet and easily done. Prepare for the final(s) as it will heavily weigh into your grade.
This class isnt too bad if you show up and take good notes. He randomly calls on people, so make sure youre paying attention- sometimes he gets frustrated if no ones following along. Overall, Zonas a great guy. He has weekly review sessions, drops your lowest lab & quiz grades, and gave an extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester.
He goes on tangents but is willing to circle back and repeat material that the class finds challenging. The homework is hard but really helps prepare you for the test. Test are difficult so go to the review lesson before the test!
Zona's a great guy. His cold callouts made the class difficult for kids with anxiety. He uses a lot of humor and makes the class laugh often, and his lectures are always important. Try to attend class as much as you can- if you skip, he has online lectures posted to make sure you're caught up. Weekly quizzes, but he drops the lowest ones.
Zona lectures a lot, so if you aren't planning on going to class, make sure to still go through the notes. The content is easy if you keep up with it, and the book helps clarify certain topics. Overall, the class was easy and he drops many of the lowest grades, so as long as you do everything you should be fine.
It was ok, it was not the best for me I am more of an anxious person and when he calls on you out of no where it can be extremely stressful. The quizzes and labs were super easy but the Midterm and final were not. He is a nice guy but overall the class was just stressful.
At all cost do not take chem 102 with zona... He is the absolute worst. I had above 100% in high school chemistry and thought this would be an easy A. News flash it was not. Ended up at a B because he gives 2 test that nobody does well on due to the fact we all cheat on the lecture assessments. The work would be fine if it wasn't 3 credit hours
Singled me out on the first day of class and I did not return to a lecture after, but on exam days and labs. Had him two weeks online prior to our return to campus and he constantly cold called people and seemed to get frustrated when no one got to the point he was trying to make. He expects students to have a previous understanding of chemistry.
Requires a 145$ access code, labs are easy (mandatory) honestly i went to one class the whole semester and got 100s on all quizzes (2/week online) the answers are on quizlet or someone in a chem groupchat will send answers so join! Only two exams. He is annoying tho, but class is passable if you cheat. Finished with an 82% w/ a 60 and 54 on exams.
The quizzes are online and you have 3 attempts. The majority of the class grade is on the midterm and final which are extremely difficult. The class average for the midterm was like a 50-60 after the curve. The lectures provide nothing, not to mention he cold calls on you so wear black or grey clothing. would not recommend this class at all.
Eh, it was just ok. While the lecture assessments and quizzes weren't too hard, the exams are. There are only two, a midterm and a final. You have the buy the textbook in order to access the prelab quizzes, but we were never assigned to read the book. As long as you study the lecture assessments and go to review sessions you'll pass.
This class was kinda eh. I regret taking it in my first semester. Lectures start out easy enough but then the pace sped up and the content became a lot more difficult. He calls on people all the time in class which made many feel uncomfortable. Homework was decently difficult there are 2 lecture quizzes a week and labs got old after a while.
