He teaches a little like a preacher-lots of emphasis and repitition with important points on the white board. Funny and enthusiastic. Approachable and gentlemanly. Not to mention, a classy dresser. Film choices in class were rather boring, though.

This professor is very helpful and I actually wanted to take another history class. We had fun and still learned a ton at the same time. He is really into what he is talking about very enthusiastic. His classes are very fun. He knows what he is talking about

The only minor complaint I have with the gentleman is the fact that he doesnt return students emails. My suggestion to non-returned emails for further students is call him and he normally calls yo

Overall, I would definitely recommend this professor. He is so nice and it is almost impossible to fall asleep in his class because of his very animated lectures. I do agree with the other comment in that he does sort of glaze over some important events... but the class is not that difficult and I definitely learned a lot.

A so-so teacher. He has a good lecture voice, so it's hard to fall asleep(except when watching a movie)in class. He gives lots of extra credit, and he gives notes on the chapters. Tests are not so bad. The only drawback is that he is slow in returning emails.

Mr. Perkins is the absolute best professor at WCC. He keeps u interested, and u cant fall asleep in his class. He does a great job with getting the subject matter across. I had him for African American History, by far one of the best lecturers I've had, be on time and you get plenty of extra credit - Hard not to get an A.

This professor is great, he can make anyone love history. I put history on hold b/c I thought that it would be a boring class. But, Mr. Perkins has away of explaining thing. I would advise anyone that has to take a history class at WCC to choice one of Mr.Perkins classes. I promise you will not regret it.

Great Michigan history class in 2005. Although, I wish we would have had more time to cover the 1960s. Like mentioned here before, there are chances to get extra credit and improve your grade.

Wonderful teacher, keeps you interested. Had him for HST 1877-present. Knowledgable and open to suggestions or ideas for papers.

He is one of the best teachers at WCC!!! He inspires people to learn beyond the textbooks. He genuinely cares about his students and encourages them to take an active role in the classroom. His specialty is African American and African history, but he knows limitless amounts of total US history too! You will be really glad that you chose his classe

One of the most amazing teacher's I have had at WCC. I didn't think I would get so into the subject of African American History, but his passion brought the class to life for me. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend him to ANY student!

The best teacher I've had at WCC. Extremely knowledgeable. Class is set up with a 10 question quiz everyday on previous material (he keeps you thinking of what you learned) as well as exams where he gives you the Q's and A's, as well as an individual research paper. Does a great job of emphasizing the understanding of material and not memorization.

Thornton is very excited about history, and he tries very hard to spread some of his activist passion to his students - I liked that very much. However, I found his class to be far too easy to pose a challenge of any real depth. I definitely got the feeling that he was often trying to 'pep up' an uninterested middle-school audience.

HE IS GREAT! although he is really easy it does not mean you learned any less during the period of the course....im in my 3rd class with MR.P and i wish i wasnt transferring so i could take a 4th!!! He is genuinely interested in you, and he wants you to learn and succeed...i challenge you to take his class and tell me you weren't interested in it!!

PERKINS is amazing.. He's very nice and cares about each and every last one of his students, and you cant say that about every professor.. He's dedicated and knows his stuff, and his humor makes you WANT to go to class.. I would take him a thousand times, if i could..

Humorous and truly groovy professor. Infectiously passionate; knows and loves his material. His extensive experience shows itself to a decided advantage. Uses better textbooks than many other professors, and is thankfully not overly reliant on them. Not a crushing work load, either. Keeps history from being dry; makes it surprising/illuminating.

I took Mr.Perkins for American History and African History he is truly amazing. Never had a bored moment in his class. I thought I would because it was in the morning but he keeps it live....If I was still going to WCC I would take him again. We love you Mr.Perkins

I had him for African American His. He is an amazing teacher! He only gives a few homework assignm. Paper reviews of movies. Also, his exams, he goes over them the day before the exam. Write them down! They're all on the exam. I learned alot from him!

Took history with Mr. Perkins last semester and fell in love with what he taught about as well as the man himself! His interest in what he was teaching was so strong that it made me want to learn everything he had to say. Such a cool dude.

Mr. Perkins does an excellent job giving lectures and in the lecture I learn new facts I never heard of before. This is really important He gives exam reviews before the day of the test. This is a great help if you are not sure whats is going to be on the test. He is very kind and will help explain assignments. I really highly reccomend taking him!

Mr. Perkins has a passion for history, and it shows during his teaching. He has a good sense of humor, and really just wants everyone to have good time while learning something. I recommend anyone take a class with him. His quizzes are extra credit, and before every test he lets you know what you will be facing so there are no surprises.

My favorite teacher I have ever had at WCC. He is the most incredible professor. He knows a lot about the subject and projects it so easily! He has power points for all notes. You can either print them off or write them down. Many opportunities for extra credit. The class before each test, he gives you every question and answer. LOVED THIS CLASS!

Talk about a teacher who is fully immersed in teaching the subject in a style that would have warmed the hearts and minds of scholars of old! Instead of being a rigid example of the authoritative teacher teaching lowly students, he embraces the true spirit of universities - a give and take system of the bidirectional flow of knowledge & experience

He is very clear and it is obvious that he knows much about the topic. He has random quirks that he'll do often that makes class inadvertently funny. He'll assign very little homework, but the homework he does give is large.

He's the best teacher I've ever taken, easy homeworks no matter what he gives u full grade on any of the homework. Easy test he tells you the questions by reviewing. Mr. Perkins is super enthusiastic about history. We only had three tests in the semester and none were cumulative. He helps a lot by going over the material that will be covered on the test a couple days before you take it. Lots of cool stories and really helpful. Didn't use the book really. Gives out outlines for the chapters.

Mr. Perkins is truly one of the best instructors I've ever had. He is incredibly friendly and understanding. His class is not difficult but at the same time it's not boring---his knowledge of history keeps students engaged and stimulated. He gives out quizzes which count only toward extra credit (meaning you can't fail them) and his tests are clear

He had a tendency to get off track during lecture sometimes, but he's a good guy

Awesome Prof. Easy A as long as you attend class. Very neutral without bias which great for history. Makes every lecture seem like an awesome story. No homework but did a research essays that spans out across the semester. No matter what.. DO NOT miss review days. He goes over some of the questions that will be on tbe test. Do not skip review day!

Best teacher I every had! Such as sweet man. Gives out so many extra credit quizzes!! Theres only 4 exams, (which he gives out all the answers during exam review), one history paper, and a couple summarizes. Overall a great class, highly recommend!

Overall had a wonderful experience! Can sometimes get side tracked during lectures. Just stay through the class and you'll be fine. You'll have a higher chance of getting let out early if everything was covered. For the exams he will go over the answers, all you have to do is arrive on time, write them down, and memorize. There will be EC quizzes!

The Class I had with him was pretty decent, all I did was take notes and listen. The teacher also went through every question on the exam so if you attend his review you should be prepared. However he was a little bad at hearing, so if youre trying to ask a question speak up a little bit and raise your hand.

I LOVED him! I had History 150 with his with was African American history in the fall of 2018 I believe. He had a great sense of humor and was a fantastic teacher. If anyone ever sees a class taught by him, TAKE IT.

Professor Perkins is a nice guy. He truly knows what he is talking about and is willing to help you out. HST200 was a relatively easy class and as long as you show up to class and do the assignments, you should get an A. DO NOT MISS REVIEW DAYS!! He gives out the answers for the exams the class before the exam. He also has extra credit on quizzes.

1 hw assignment per chapter, answers are both in book and lecture directy. he gives extra points if you show up/participate but its not mandatory. he's a show effort kinda guy. its clear he loves history and teaching it. 1 5 pg paper but it isn't hard and super lenient with all due dates. clear reviews before all big tests. quizzes are from hw.

Professor Perkins is the best, I love his voice- which is good because he lectures the entire class. He does test reviews the class before and provides all of the answers for your test!! He also goes over assignments during class and accepts late work. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY you will fail as long as you show up!!! Want an easy A? Take his class!!

Mr. Perkins was extremely kind & I thoroughly enjoyed all of the new information I learned about U.S. History. All of my previous history knowledge was very fabricated & not the truth. I'm glad I took his class & I'm sure he's a great professor in a classroom-- but I don't think technology is his forte lol. Definitely an easy A.

Overall a great professor and very helpful, if you have any questions on any assignments. Be prepared to read a lot of chapters.
