Great teacher, wish i studied more
Thuy is great, very nice and very helpful/useful in labs. she's able to explain things in a different light if you don't understand. She wants all her students to do well. Tests are tough (thinking questions-not mult.choice)so study hard!
Thuy is an amazingly smart and gifted teacher. She pushes hard, but is extremely helpful, encouraging and motivating. Take the time to dedicate yourself to her class and u'll come out feeling like u've really learned and accomplished something.
Her notes are very ineffective. She gives skeleton notes e-mailed to students with blanks in them. The class consists of her filling in the blanks on an overhead. It is difficult to remember info this way!
I really like the structure of Thuy's classes. Somehow she finds the time to go over everything 3 or 4 times in one class. You sit and listen (actually she makes you participate) the first few times which really helps you grasp the concepts. I have always
Thuy is a demanding teacher but she wants her students to learn the material. If you want to learn biology take this course. If you want to float through life and biology you will die in this course. Thuy is an amazing teacher and is very helpful.
This girl is terrible!!! I do not understand what the people above and what the hell they are talking about. If you want to live a life like a hell! CHOOSE HER. When your were in her class, her hand writing is terrible, and her picture is not very clear. You are gonna have a quiz every single week!
IF YOU ARE WISE ENOUGH.DO NOT CHOOSE HER! DO NOT BELIEVE IN THOSE JERKS CHOOSING HER AS THEIR FAVORITE!!!
For those that need to be nursed through post secondary education, don't pick Thuy as your prof. She's one of the only teachers who shows a true dedication to her field. Weekly quizes were the only reason most people passed this course. Great Teacher, cares about her students.
Thuy is an amazing person. She is truly an inspiration and example of someone who loves what she is studying. She is dedicated to her students and teaches in a creative and fun way. Do not expect her to hold you hand, you have to work hard in her class. She is one of the best profs I have ever had!
Thuy is an amazing teacher very innovative in teaching techniques. So all forms of learning are utilized. If you want to learn take a course being taught by Thuy.
Clear ,concise, makes the class fun!
Thuy almost certainly doesn't get paid enough. (btw for all you winers who think she's too tough and doesn't have clear notes...good luck in Uni. cause ur bumb attitudes aren't going to do you any favors).
Great Visual Teacher
Thuy is a very hard marker, and her test questions can be a bit tricky. On the other hand, there's always a chance to get bonus marks. She teaches the material very clearly and she is always available for help. She is an awesome teacher!
Thuy really makes you want to learn! She is visual when she teaches which really helps you grasp the concept! Her weekly quizes definately don't let you fall behind and prepare you for the final exam! I am excited to take Bio 151 with her!
Great teacher. Very organized and great notes!
i think thuy is a great teacher, but her tests are way too hard and she is a very hard marker.
very clear on expectations...alot to memorize, but she makes it understandable and interesting.
Thuy was a great prof, extremely helpful and knowledgable. Her weekly tests were very helpful to stay on top of the sections, and the weekly tutorials were perfect to clarify any issues with the lectures.
toattaly hard. hard marker, hard tests, alot of work. not very understanding either. good luck.
She is an extremely hard marker, with extremely hard tests and if your taking her class expect to have a lower average then all the other anatomy classes. her class averages are by far the lowest.
Thuy is an amazing teacher!!! She is a hard marker and her weekly tests force you to study which in the end helps a great deal with the exam. She really cares about her students and works hard to help everyone understand the concepts! She is great!
if you get her in Bio just find another section! She is doing the best she can to make you hate or fail the course.
Thuy is the best biology teacher I've ever had. She clearly loves her subject and wants you to love it too and do well in it. She incorporates different teaching methods into her courses and really engages the class. She pushes you to do your best but it pays off in the end- you learn your stuff!
She knows the subject really well, and does activities and demonstrations in class to help you learn and remember. Found her tutorials really helpful.
She really knows how to teach and gives you all the information that you need to know. You will need to study and make sure you know the material. She is EXTREMELY helpful during tutorials and office hours.
Thuy was by far one of the best instructors I have had. She is inspirational in her teaching and truly wants her students to do well. She will not hold your hand so you need to work for it, but if you do it will pay off. She is all about APPLICATION, don't just memorize, know how to apply content!! PS. Attend tutorials they will save you.
Amazing teacher! Best I've ever had. Tough marker, but you come out of this class knowing your stuff. Don't skip class, hard to catch up if you do! Sad I don't get her again next semester.
She enjoys making students feel stupid, especially those struggling with the course content. Good luck passing Biology with this "teacher".
She is a tough marker, hard to get help and she's a little intimidating. You have to work hard in this class. Review Review Review and you will succeed.
Thuy is an amazing teacher who prepares you for every exam extremely well. If you attend lecture and follow her tips for studying, you will do great. This is a hard class, but the clarity of Thuys' notes and lectures really helped me out. Don't expect any handouts or bonus marks. Work hard and you'll do fine :)
Had her for 1st semester & transfered sections to have her again 2nd sem, is a hard marker but is willing to help you if review notes. This is a class that you do need to read the lecture notes but she supplies them for you to have. Go to every class and ask her after class if you don't understand. Review lecture notes every week & you'll do fine.
If you are a student that excels in her class your golden but if you struggle good luck. She is rude and has no sympathy for outside circumstances. If you can avoid her at all cost
Thuy really cares about all her students, she wants them to succeed and she also challenges them to understand all aspects of important concepts. It may seem overwhelming by how much information there is. However, after finishing the exams I can say it is possible to succeed if you put the work in. REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW and you will succeed.
Anyone who is reading this. If you are amazing at memorizing a paper/booklet from start to end, and like when a teacher is overly interactive, and if you enjoy friendships with teachers who like you for your memorization skills and see that as "hardwork", then this is the class for you. If you are not, get ready to be marginalized:')
Go to tutorials, some people say that they are not mandatory, but those same people attend them and achieve high grades. In my opinion, the tutorials are mandatory. And, in my opinion, she tries harder to help her students learn the extensive content than any other bio prof. This prof goes over labs in great detail. Not the nicest, but tries hard.
Attending lecture and retaining everything she says is necessary to succeed. Unfortunately if you arent a visual or kinaesthetic learner, her teaching style will definitely not be of your best interest. Had to self teach and comprise own note packages in order to understand her diagram heavy lecture packages. Best of luck taking Bio with Thuy. :/
Loves to ask for the next step but when given just that she doesnt give full marks because she really wanted the next few steps. Prefers answers written how she would word them and not how you personally word it. No room for error in regards to spelling and no room for misunderstanding in her lengthy multiple choice questions.
Thuy is a great instructor! Her lectures are entertaining and contain everything that is testable, and then some. I never had to touch the textbook in her class - just study off the notes. Her class can be difficult if you don't have the time or energy to put the work in; but if you do, you'll have a much easier time and will greatly enjoy it.
Very organized, has clear notes and expectations. The class is dense with so much material, but she gives you a clear idea of what you really need to know. I found labs a but hectic, so ideally do as much ahead of time as possible. She always goes over answers which is amazing!
This course had a ton of information packed into it, which Thuy goes through extremely thoroughly. Attending class every single day is crucial to even passing the course. Thuy doesn't seem to like people who don't participate in class, attend her tutorials, or make an effort - so I would recommend all of the above.
Thuy wants her students to succeed but the course is just very content heavy. Plan on reviewing after every class and rewriting your notes. Make sure to attend every class, tutorials and do the practice assignments she provides on D2L for you. Her exams are quite hard so STUDY STUDY STUDY! But she provides good notes and is very organized!
Get ready for group projects, and no sympathy if you're sick or don't understand the work. If you're doing well, she's nice! if you need help, she pushes you aside and makes you feel dumb. The notes and labs are heavy with information, and good luck knowing what to study because she won't tell you.
I am an A student and have dropped 2 letter grades in this class while studying the exact same way in all my other classes!?! Her exams seem straight forward but If you don't give her the exact answer she is looking for you will never get full marks for it. She's an incredibly hard marker and is looking for very specific answers
Some positives: Thuy is a good lecturer, I think between Peggy and Thuy, Thuy is better at explaining concepts. She is also very available outside of class, and willing to help you learn new study habits .However, she is a very hard marker and expects verbatim answers from the notes packages, even on single lines that you don't add information to.
What Thuy expects her students to know for tests, assignments and quizzes is so unclear and she really lacks empathy. When I went to office hours to ask questions for clarification (which I do for all my classes) she acted like I was dense even though her answers are usually convoluted and can't really be derived from the information given.
Thuy is very caring towards her students, it definitely shows that she wants her students to succeed. However, she is extremely specific with grading her tests and assignments, if you don't give super specific answers don't expect full marks. If you pay attention in lectures and participate, she will love you!
Thuy is a tough grader, gives lots of weekly assignments individually and in groups. Though it is a heavy course load, doing the assignments and attending all the lectures is worthwhile for the exams. Thuys lectures are fast paced, but her notes are very thorough and organized, and if you ask for help she will make sure you get it!
Thuy has really adapted to the online format well. Biol 104 is not an easy class and is by no means an "easy A" however, if you ask she will teach you the most effective ways of studying and will also spend extra time ensuring you understand all the content. She is one of the most caring profs I've ever had!
I took bio 104 in 2019, Thuy had very engaging lectures, it was never just sitting listening to her reading off slides. There was always some hands-on project, group discussion, or topic retentive game. I was impressed with the teaching method, all of the lectures had something to keep them memorable. Also, do the pre-class readings.
This is a hard class, and Thuy is certainly a stickler for detail. But she is an absolute top notch professor. So intelligent, funny, caring, and engaging. Couldn't think of a person better for the job. If you have her and show up and ask questions and stay curious you will do just fine.
Thuy is very enthusiastic and lively which is great. She likes details but you have to be succinct with your answers on tests and assignments. She likes answers to be almost word-for-word and won't understand what you are trying to say if you don't use her descriptions. Sometimes she will take more time for demos than explaining the topic in detail
taking this course was very hard. if you are struggling she will just brush you off. never have i done so terrible in a course. i dont recommend this instructor. try to switch sections if you can.
The best professor I've encountered at Camosun. BIOL104 is a bit of a hard class, but definitely introductory biology. Teaches you a lot of fascinating things, she baked us cookies for class once, and the way she handled the pandemic potentially affecting class was 10/10. Thuy in one word is PREPARED. Will say, group assignment heavy.
Thuy is honestly one of the best profs Ive had at Camosun, she gives really good feedback on all of our assignments and makes lectures worth coming to! She is always available outside of class, and added tutoring classes every week that were open to anyone who needed help! I highly recommend this professor! She is an intelligent and hilarious
I was lucky to be one of Thuy's students. She made microbiology so easy and interesting to learn. All her classes were interesting and sometimes funny. She has constructed the course very well including a wide variety of assignment types. She also engages the whole class in learning, so that some of the hard concepts become easy. Thank you Thuy.
Thuy is a fantastic teacher! You can tell she cares about the material she teaches, and she makes the classes engaging. My course with her was the best-taught course of the semester by far. Each lecture and activity builds on the last, bolstering your understanding of the course. I would not hesitate to take another course with her!
Thuy is a phenomenal instructor. Her lectures are interesting, informative, and engaging, and the assignments do a great job of helping retain and comprehend the concepts learned in class. Thuy really does want you to succeed and she sets you up for that success. The only reason I didn't get an A+ was because I coasted at the end of the semester.
Thuy is so sweet and a joy to have as a teacher. She really tries to make things simple to understand. Because it's a bio class you have to be IN class to learn what she's talking about (because it can be pretty complex sometimes- immune system I'm looking at you) but if you attend and do the homework you'll do fine.
Thuy was a wonderful BIO153 instructor. She puts in so much extra effort to help her students succeed. She is a very picky marker but goes over the material enough that it is justified. We will all miss her engaging lectures :)
Thuy taught me my two most content-heavy courses. She put so much time into her lectures, tutorial, and in providing lots of opportunities to speak in office hours to help her students understand the material. Not only is she brilliant, but she really cares about her students and will help them understand material.
Thuy is an incredible teacher! She is available to her students and really cares about them. Her subjects are content heavy but her lectures are interesting and engaging, so I looked forward to her classes. Thuy is a firm but fair marker, she lays out her expectations clearly and wants you to succeed.
Thuy is very passionate and wants her students to succeed. She is easy to communicate with and is easily accessible for extra help. This class is very dense but she made it enjoyable!
She's amazing that she can make you like and really learn the course even it was the heaviest and hardest one in the program. Great teacher!
Thuy is an amazing teacher, she is so compassionate, supportive and she really wants you to learn and succeed! wonderful lectures and tutorials. One of the best teacher I've ever had. Exams are difficult so it is helpful to put work into your assignments.
I had Thuy for two 2nd year bio classes. She is one of the best sciences teachers i've ever had. she is creative, efficient and driven. her delivery is excellent, focused and relevant. she strives to teach & serve her students well and it shows. She writes her notes live with you and records lectures so you won't fall behind. hard work - worth it.
Thuy is a very kind and knowledgeable teacher. Attending class is very beneficial. I thought not having a textbook would make it difficult to not have more information but Thuy provides lots of information in her lectures and notes.
I love Thuy's lectures and labs very much. She is extremely passionate, inspirational, caring and professional. I consider myself very lucky to meet this amazing professor. Thank you Thuy for everything.
Thuy was an amazing prof she did everything possible for you do do well in the classes and always marked fairly.
Thuy is an excellent instructor. She takes the extra steps to be available to her students if they need clarification - a tough marker but is available to you if you reach out in advance. She incorporates and encourages discussion opportunities in her lectures and adds interactive demonstrations to help supplement the course material during class.
Thuy is amazing! Her interactive lectures supplemented with demos made learning tough concepts very straight forward. She is so passionate and cares immensely about her students.
Thuy is so caring and is always giving a very informative and interesting lecture! she is very easy to talk to and understanding and is a tough but fair marker. She always greets you with a smile! would 100% take a class with her again
Not sure what these other ratings are based on but for bio153, I found Thuy extremely difficult and intolerant. She was a tough marker often making you lose marks for things as simple as the spelling of a word. Not receptive to student's time often going overtime in her lectures to recount her own stories. Would not recommend her at all.
Try to switch sections if you can. Way too much group work and Thuy expects very specific answers. You must do assignments exactly the way she wants you to or you will lose marks. She will call specific people out on spot in lecture and if you say you are unsure what the answer is she will make you feel stupid in front of the class.
Engaging lectures and keeps things interesting with some examples that require student volunteers moving about the room to visualize biochemical events. She seemed to get a bit impatient when explaining to me one-on-one when I wasn't understanding right away. I can tell that she loves what she does.
Thuy is Amazing! I learnt soooooo much in her class, if your looking for a easy A go somewhere else, but if your looking to learn she's the one.
Get ready to quit your full time job to just study biology all day long! With weekly quizzes/lab assignments and 5 exams, this course is not for the faint of heart! If you're naturally inclined towards biology or aren't afraid of a little hard work, you'll do fine. Remember, Thuy wants you to thrive! If you're looking for an easy A look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed this class with Thuy the group projects were tough but it was very helpful because it was a great way to study and helped you to think about the topics so when exams came around I felt totally prepared and confident going in. She spent a lot of time make sure we understood things and keeping the lectures very interactive.
Thuy is an amazing teacher. If you are a visual learner, Thuy is the prof for you. I would say attendance is really important for Thuy's lectures and we did a lot of partner work that was actually very helpful. 10/10 recommend Thuy!
There is a reason why Thuy is rated 5/5 in difficulty AND quality. Yes, she is a tough (but fair) marker... and she is also a FANTASTIC teacher! Thuy really cares and makes herself super available to her students. She LOVES biology and her passion truly translates as her lectures are engaging and fun with lots of hands on demos. Take her class!
Thuy is a good professor, she gives good lecture and very caring. If you want to actually learn, then her class is for you. I took it for credits. She gives SO MUCH homework, since I don't enjoy biology, it does not worth my time to put so much effort in. If you LOVE biology, pick her.
She is so awesome teacher
Thuy is an amazing teacher. Good explanations in class, assignments were helpful. The material themselves are hard, but Thuy did her best to explain it as clearly and simple as possible. She is always supportive to her students. Her lecture was very valuable, definitely learnt a lot from her class. 100% recommended!
While she explains things clearly, and her lectures are engaging- her tests are extremely difficult. Class averages for midterms was in the 60's. This has been hardest first year class I have taken at camosun- it has been harder for me than most second year classes as well. Her lecture notes are extremely detailed and intense.
This class was very difficult and so many concepts to learn but Thuy was so passionate and invested in what she taught it made you want to be at the same level. She was always fair and made everything as clear as she could and there wasn't a question she couldn't answer if you had one. She really wants you to succeed and is such a great teacher !!
Thuy is incredibly knowledgable and does so good with explaining the really complicated bits. However the tests were really nasty. Questions that felt like tricks on her lecture quizzes as well as ones with wrong answers that she wouldn't address when you spoke to her about them. Tests were also overly complicated compared to class material.
Thuy is an incredible teacher and person. She really cares about her students, and she does everything she can to help with understanding the content. She is very fair with her grading, and even if testing is not your strong suit, you are still able to achieve a good grade in her class.
Thuy gives thorough and well spoken lectures that go in depth with great visuals so that you can learn the content fully without becoming confused. She cares a lot about her students and the content she is teaching. If you would like to take a class that is fun, while also learning a lot of cool stuff, BIO 104 with Thuy is perfect for you.
Thuy is one of the smartest, most passionate instructors! She always keeps lectures interesting with her humour & enthusiasm. She makes time for those who want extra help to thoroughly explain concepts & help prepare her students for tests. The exams are tough but 45% of the grade is assignments. She's an amazing instructor. I will miss having her!
Thuy is an excellent professor. She is knowledgeable and approachable.
Thuy is very passionate about biology. She cares a lot about seeing her students succeed and actively encourages learning. Her examples were helpful. She wants you to show up to lecture, but does not require lecture attendance. This class is very information-dense, but the notes she provides help with understanding, and thus memorizing material.
She's truly exceptional, and her classes are definitely worth attending. However, be prepared to put in some serious study time as the exams can be challenging.
The lectures were clear and informational. They were recorded which helped a lot in studying. A LOT of group work assignments. Tests were hard but also fair.
She is probably a lovely person but not what I experienced this last semester, she is not helpful and very a critical person; when it comes to exams/ tests she wants the anwser she would write and wont explain the correct answer if you got it wrong. Many people drop out of this course. Her infectious disease course isn't what you expect beware!
I loved this class! Lectures are super easy to follow along using the fill-in slides, and there were amazing in class exercises. Thuy cares greatly about making sure the course material is understood, and if you ask questions she always has answers!
Thuy is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about biology. Her lectures are engaging, with hands-on demos that really help solidify the complex material. While the workload is heavy, using resources like Unstuck study alongside the provided notes can make a big difference. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Thuy is amazing! She cares about student success and is both extremely knowledgable and passionate about Biology and teaching. She records her lectures incase students can't make it and provides many demo's in class so concepts are easier to understand. Super sweet lady! Tests are very hard though so study study study!
Thuy really cares about her students. Her course material is very heavy so be prepared to put in a lot of extra studying to do well on her tests. Her tutorials are very helpful and she goes above and beyond to help you if you are struggling. I will miss having class with Thuy!
Thuy is an amazing teacher and is very passionate about biology. She can be tough, but only because she cares for your success!
Thuy is an amazing instructor, I would even say she is one of my favourite instructors at Camosun. Her lectures are very interesting and she puts in a lot of effort to make them fun and interactive. The tests are very hard but if you study and go to her tutorials you'll do well, and you'll really feel like you earned your grade because of it!
Thuy is such a great instructor and really cares about her students. Tests are very hard, but she puts a lot of time into her students to make sure they understand the material and her lectures are super interesting. I'll miss having Thuy as an instructor!
Thuy is the best teacher I ever had, she is always prepared, organized and approachable. She is so smart and her way of teaching is so unique and inspirational. I learned how to be on the top of my game from her:) Thuy, thank you so much for all your hardwork!
Thuy is great professor, she is passionate about the material she is teaching and provides many resources in order for students to succeed (recorded lectures, organized note packages). Her exams are challenging, I wish there was focus given on what can be expected to be examined, as its easy to get caught up in the details. BUT, I will miss her!
Thuy is passionate, caring, and funny! Lecture attendance is encouraged, and in my opinion an awesome experience. Mix of individual and group work! She is open to help always and provides clear feedback. She does grade "tough" but not maliciously, it's to correct misunderstandings of the material. A free digital copy of the textbook was provided.
Thuy is one of the best professors I've had during my time at Camosun. She's so passionate about teaching, her lecture notes are great and the way she teaches is interactive, which makes it a little easier to understand the heavy material. Just get ready to put an extra effort in studying.
Thuy is wonderful! The only thing stopping me from rating her a 5/5, though, is that there was a student who consistently (and almost perpetually) interrupted and derailed the class (every class) to talk about their own opinions of the material, and unfortunately thuy did not shut it down, which i feel wasted valuable lecture time.
Thuy is such a sweetheart. I had her for BIO104 and it was definitely the most engaging and interesting of all my bio classes. She was very clear on criteria of group assignments, gave great feedback on assignments and tests and was generally very engaging in labs and lectures. I would retake this class a million times with her!!
Thuy is seriously the best teacher I have ever had!!! Hands down, specially for such a hard class, she delivered it sooo well. I learned everything I needed to know, she is passionate and engaging. Take her class if you'd like to be successful and understand the material fully.
Thuy put 100% enthusiasm in teaching and made sure that everyone was engaged to participate in class activities. The final lecture exam seems scary as it was the only lecture exam for the course. But if you did all activities and assignments, it was not bad. Also, if you understand the learning outcomes for each chapter, you will be successful.
