gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit

The fact that he calls you my loves shows he cares!
teaches a class about drugs, many of which he takes before class...entertaining
Fair grader, very amusing, he'll shock your socks off
No Comments
Expert in the field. Funny, great videos.
Good professor and you know he has done all the drugs he talks about.
he's awesome!!
Knew a little TOO MUCH about what he was talking about
Entertaining professor; do not have to go to class to get a good grade
i dont doubt that the man knows what hes talking about he just doesnt express it well and then yells at us when we do badly and yells at us when we do well...you cant win with him
No Comments
he's cool!
palfai rocks! the honors section of the class is even better, because there's no way you can't pull of an A. he gives you extra credit if he knows your name by the end of the semester (so go introduce yourself)...he'll shock your socks off!
Prof. Palfai is such a funny and adorable professor. When he starts class, he always says, Ok, my loves... He's such a funny guy and there's no BS about him.
This man truly is amazing. He shocks my socks off every time!
he's hilarious, but the course lags after the first test.
A great professor, and Drugs and Human Behavior is a really interesting class.
very good class. If you take any psychology class at Syracuse, you should take this class!
impossible tests
bad teacher... wicked hard tests, and won't help you when you ask him for it.
Not gonna lie....I had a crush on him all year because he's so adorable...great teacher...hard ass tests, but it's worth it just to listen to that man speak.
Very good class. Exams are not that easy but he gives lots of extra credits. Stuff he talks about it very helpful and interesting so try not to miss any of them.
Palfai totally rocks! He tells you everything you need to know. Yea his tests are hard, but at least he makes me WANT to learn what he's talking about.
Class is a ball. Palfai is exceptionally entertaining. If you can, take the honors version of the class. It's a little extra work, but it'll bump up your grade a lot.
Best class I ever took in my 5 years here!
Palfai really shocks my socks off.

Good class, i enjoyed learning about different drugs,... still trying to find where he said he found the magic mushrooms in cuse....
Dont leave SU without taking this course, its great!
He was incredibly interesting, beyond knowledgable. His class was great, very enjoyable. Yes, his tests were hard - but if you listened and paid attention it wasn't really that bad.
he is a nice and amazing giuy...wiling to help when u need it.
"So you whip your child with a belt...a 4-by-4, whatever, and he stops going for the candy bar. But the next thing you know you've got some poison in your coffee cup." -Palfai

this prof is amazing. he's really funny. "so really, heroin- in the right dosage- is the best drug for your body. except that it is highly addictive." omg, the lectures. everything else sucks but the lectures. wow.
oh baby palfai is the man, haggard old dirty man, his lectures shock my socks off, take anything he teaches it'll be good
If you are interested in PSY take the class. He is a very very good Professor!!!!!! Plus he gives tons of extra credit assignments.
This guy was awesome. When he said 'Okay my loves' and 'this will shock your socks off' you just can't help but laugh. This was an awesome class, I recommend it.
Tibor was an AMAZING professor. He was hilarious and always called us his "loves". His silly catch phrases made his class easy to get into ("lets get ready to rumble", "this will shock your socks off", etc.). I tried to get into his other class but it was full. Id recommend palfai to anyone!
The lectures are boring at times. He is a funny guy though and knows what he is talking about. He likes to show his weird videos
no comment.
Professor Palfai is just one of those professors who stick with you because of his outrageous personality (and mystery accent). If you have to take PSY 205, definitely grab up Palfai's class!
Very interesting professor. Knows a lot about the field, and displays material in a very clear and precise manner. Lots of visuals and videos during class, making the lecture more exciting. Tests are difficult, but overall, he is a good teacher.
This is an awesome an interesting guy. If you pay attention in class and attend the review session before the tests its not that bad.
Teaches well, but powerpoints are very unclear. Difficult to go back and study from them. I suggest printing out the slides and then taking notes on what he says beyond the notes.
This will knock your socks of loves! Oh Tibor!
Great Professor.. Very smart and teaches so well. Keeps you interested in coming to class.. tries to relate to students.. just do the work, and u'll get an A. Gives you lots of chances to get extra points in recitations.. i had 30 points more than u needed to get an A. Just do the work, and U will get an A
Good Professor but a challenging class. Section meets only once a week. Most of the learning is done in the Discussions so get to know your TA. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. You'll need it after the tests.
Amazing Professor and class!
lectures arent too helpful but u should still go becuz he gives tips on what to expect on exams..do the extra credit!!! all of it cuz its easy..as long as u read the book before the exams u should be fine..go to the reviews before the test cuz it will save u..go to ur TA for help cuz u will never see palfai really
This class was pretty hard, esp the exams. Palfai is a good teacher, funny and good at explaining stuff but most exam questions came from the book. Go to your TA for help because the lecture is huge (about 400 people in each section)
he's great when you see him privately, but his lectures are sometimes pretty boring :(
He'll "shock your socks off." He keeps class interesting and knows how to keep students' attention. 4 hours of research participation are required for this course.
This guy is awesome. The first exam is a bit tough, but after that eveything is cake. There is also a lot of extra credit, so it is really hard to screw up. Also, the material is fun to learn.
Palfai is great, very funny. Absolutely come to lectures because he gives half the exam questions away. theres a ton of extra credit so its easy to get an A. defenetly listen to his advise and get noticed because he gives extra credit if he knows your name.
if you go to lectures and the review sessions (where they basically tell you what is going to be on the test), then you'll be fine. the class is easy to get a good grade in. lots of extra credit. it helps to have read the chapter in the book before going to lecture because he can go quickly, but his power points are posted on blackboard every fri.
GREAT!!!
His classes are captivating and I'm willing to say that they were the best classes here in Syracuse University.
I took PSY205 and 315 with Palfai. He is the most amazing professor that I have had, and his classes are informative and absolutely enthralling. Take the class seriously and do the reading, getting an A is VERY easy.
sometimes the material was dry and very "science-y" but it was interesting. palfai is always joking around in class and telling stories. you have to study hard because the tests can be tricky sometimes even with all the extra credit he offers but i definitely recommend this class. palfai is one of the best profs on campus
He is a great professor. I recommend taking him 100%. There are so many ways you can get an A in this class. He gives you so much extra credit opportunities. There are also review sessions before the exam and tells you exactly what will be there. Its a great class!!!
Very interesting, somewhat eccentric guy. Lectures can be somewhat monotonous but he does a good job trying to hold students' interests for the most part. Very fair grader, and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities
Best professor I ever had at 'cuse. Keep your pen handy because the quotes this guys has in class are gold. "Alright my loves we ready to rumble? Alright, first I'm gonna teach you to be beautiful. Next, I'm gonna teach you to be sexy. Is there anything else you could want from a 9am class?" 205 is a breeze, 315 takes some work but it's worth it.
Good Professor. Palfai is cool, he gives you so much extra credit that theres no way you can get less than a B.
This is definitely and professor worth taking. He is very enthusiastic about the subject and keeps class interesting by using a lot of videos. He offers so many extra credit opportunities that it is almost impossible to not get at least a B. The tests are very easy if you attend the review session and study a little bit.
Your grade turns out pretty good i took him for 205/315 and I enjoyed the topics but he is very firm on his policies so don't mess around but as far as the topics a lot of fun in 315 tons of fun facts! Tests are hard in this class!!!!
I liked this class.. the tests can be pretty hard, a lot of different drug names and body things to remember, but i'd say it's worth it to take this class. you learn a lot of interesting things about drugs and how they work in your body. and i think palfai is more interesting in this class than 205, lectures weren't as boring.
Great professor. He is really funny and interested. Do all the hw, extra credits and go to review sessions. It's hard to not get at least B.
Don't let people fool you- this class is not hard. He curves big time and there's plenty of bonus points. Pailfai is the man, hilarious and amusing. He is hard to understand sometimes and his slides lack clarity but read the book and you'll be fine. I really recommend this class to psych lovers!
Class is super easy. Pay attention in the discussion classes and you'll do fine in the class. I barely opened my book and got an A in both the class and on my tests. If you can, try to get Laura Miller as a TA. She's super nice and very helpful. She's really funny too.
Very easy class. Go to the review sessions. Doesn't require that much work, just make sure you go to the review session. If you attend and pay attention in every class (and they are interesting!) and the review sessions, you will without a doubt get an A.
AMAZING. Take this class. Just do it. He's hilarious, and the class is really fun and interesting. And it's an easy A. What more could you want? Don't miss lectures a.) because he tests you on stuff that are just in lectures (for example, do you know where he's from?) and b.) they're just too funny.
PSY205 is probably the worst class I've taken at SU. There is so much b/s that is required that doesn't help you on the exams/quizzes that I cannot possibly list here. The lectures are interesting and informative but you can't miss a single one. There are many extra credit opportunities, but still, don't take this course if it's not required.
Don't take this class if you need to get a good GPA (I.E. for transferring into Newhouse). The tests are impossible, but most of the other work is easy. The tests can kill your grade though. Seriously, they are so hard. Don't take this unless required.
"Easy" in the sense that you simply memorize material with no critical thinking. Difficult in the sense that you could make 100+ flashcards for an exam and not be prepared. Impossible to get an A without doing extra credit. Stay away from this class, I'm a senior econ major and did more work for this class around finals week than any other class
Whoever said this class was an "easy A" spoke way too soon. Grades are based on 3 exams and 3 quizzes which are difficult to study for, even with the review sessions and practice test. There's also a 2-page paper, 2 homework assignments and extra credit options (worth 40 points). If you do bad on the exams, do well on the rest and you can get a B.
Exams are difficult
An incredibly frustrating class. Don't waste your time reading the textbook, all exams are based upon random asides Palfai decides to share during lectures. Do not miss any, because he will ask specific questions about obscure, boring videos from twenty years ago that cannot be found online. I am not impressed with this prof or class. Avoid it.
Palfai is hilarious. Tests can be hard, the book sounds like its written for high school students. The videos are interesting most of the time. Don't miss class. Do the extra credit... I think I got an A- in the class. You'll get to here him say "Truly amazing" just about every class ahahhahah
Everyone who's saying that "this is the toughest class ever!" or that "the tests are impossible!" are lying to themselves...kids who do poorly are kids who dont study or dont show up to class. Yeah, you have to study. Yeah, you have to go to lecture. But hey- theres SO MUCH extra credit. Overall, great class. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
The exams are really hard. Friend told me that they format the class that way on purpose. I've gotten a 75 on first 2 exams, however am on pace for at least an A- due to extra credit and other sections of the course. Everything counts equally so attend class and do good in every other aspect and do all extra credit and will get good grade
Hard Class!! IF you do extra credit you will probably still do well, but the exams are SUPER hard
Very big class so talking to the professor is very difficult to do...everything is done through the TAs
NOT HARD if you study. He's hilarious in lecture. 3 tests, 3 quizzes, they are not cumulative. No final or midterm. 2 easy homeworks, 1 2-page paper. So much extra credit that even if you're lazy and do badly on the tests (that's the only way you'll do that badly) you'll still do well. the textbook comes w/a summarized booklet of key points.
I HATED THIS CLASS WITH A PASSION!! Powerpoints really boring, exams and quizzes really difficult, and random questions about his life are on the test. TAs basically run the show. I don't recommend this course.
His tests really aren't that difficult, and there are so many extra credit opportunities. He keeps the class interesting, that's for sure. I loved this class, and hope to take another course with him.
tests are multiple choice but very difficult, palfai is funny and helpful
One of the best classes I've taken so far
Hes the man, material is hard but you have 46 bonus points up for grabs, take advantage of every one of em. Try to get Kelsey Kreuger for a TA, shes very helpful and extremely good looking.
I couldn't disagree more with the last rater. I had Palfai for 205 and liked him so much that I took 315 from him too. He is insightful, entertaining and funny in lectures. He gives exam answers in lectures and gives a good idea of what every exam question will be in the reviews and fairly easy chances for bonus points. Grading is generous too
go to class and stay awake if you want to do well and study hard for the test and make sure you do all the extra credit you can and if you do all that than this class would a A- the very least
Palfai has a good teaching method that he's developed over the years, but what makes the course difficult is the amount of information that you need to know. Be sure to complete as much extra credit as possible because they will determine whether you get a B+ or a C+. Attendance at lecture is vital to understanding the material.
Very science oriented... Lots of chemical/drug names to memorize. Very hard tests.. Just 30 mulch choice but nearly impossible content.. The way he grades though, a 70 on a test is like a B+ so whatever. I pulled off an 89 so if I can do it, you can deff do it.
Pilfai is the best psych teacher. 205 contains a lot of information, and exams are hard, but with all the extra credit he offers, you are guaranteed at least a B, even with poor exam grades. Just make sure you try and get as much extra credit points as possible!
easy class, great teacher. just do the extra credits and ur set. ull never open the textbook, just get someone's notes from a prior semester and use those- he reuses the same exact notes/powerpoints. his tests are multiple choice with short response essays in recitation, but u have the questions prior to the "quiz"
Awesome professor, make sure to attend lecture because most of the information from tests come from that. Do the extra credit and you're almost guaranteed a B at the least
Palfai is a riot! The class is very easy, the tests are reasonable (50 MC and quiz in recitation) and he knows what he's talking about! The info he covers is very similar to the textbook reading so textbook isn't exactly necessary. Do the extra credit!
He seems like an interesting person to get to know. In other words, I feel as if he would be better set in a smaller class than a 400 person lecture. The exams can be very difficult with his love for tricky wording, but there is ample extra credit opportunity that all but guarantees you at least a decent grade in his class.
Palfai will "Knock your socks off!" Such a fun class. He's hilarious and makes the lectures entertaining.
Easy A due to the extra credit. Lectures are interesting because he's quite funny, make sure you listen to what he says because a lot of it isnt on powerpoints and is important. The tests are difficult even if you study but other assignments are easy. Having a good helpful TA is also important.
This class is really hard! You need to study and have good study habits to get a good grade! Don't take it the spring of senior year like I did.
He wrote the textbook so exam questions come from it. Puts all of the power points online but tells you in class what topics are questions on exams. Do the extra credit
HUGE class, exams are difficult and cover a lot of information. Attending review sessions before the exams are helpful but do not study only what is on the study guide. Palfai is very knowledgable about psych but the class size is so big that it's hard to fully understand some topics that are taught
I took PSY205 last semester, absolutely loved it. Palfai keeps his lectures entertaining, and it's obvious he cares. Didn't crack the book for 205, earned an A. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT AND ATTEND REVIEWS FOR 205. Currently taking PSY315, that's a different story. Class is harder. Studying is a must.
Professor Palfai is super interesting, I personally really enjoyed his class. He makes it really easy to get an A in his class even if you don't do well on the exams. I love this class and I'm definitely taking more psychology classes.
Did not think I would enjoy this class as much as I did. You definitely need to do the reading and workbook assignments, going to lecture helps a lot but he does not take attendance. SUPER smart man with funny stories. Extra credit opportunities. He also tells you exactly what each question on the exam will be about. Do the work and its easy. Take!
Palfai is a good professor very knowledgable and his class is interesting. He gives a bunch of extra credit and his exams are easy if you go to class and take notes and listen to what he says. He tells you what will come on the exams. Thanks to this class I'm doing a minor in Psy.
He was cool
Although the tests are over a large chunk of material and are therefore pretty difficult, he gives you A LOT of opportunities for extra credit. If you do poorly on the tests you can make up for it with extra credit and still get an A. Although he posts the lecture slides online, he tells you during the lectures what exact topics will be on the exam
Palfai is the man. If you like learning about pot, heroin, crack, alcohol, coke etc. in class then take this. Palfai is incredibly knowledgeable in this field. But one warning, there is a lot of nuerobiology in this class which can be hard. Basically, you get out what you put it.
I got mostly B's on the tests, but with ALL the extra credit that was possible, I ended up getting an A. There's one short research paper that isn't difficult, and participation in recitation matters a little. You don't really have to read the textbook. GO TO THE TEST REVIEWS! They tell you every topic that's going to be on the test.
I LOVED PSY 205. Palfai is one of the smartest professors I've had, and he knows the subject very well. It is the easiest class to get an A in due to all of the extra credit (98%). Because of this class, I'm now changing my major to Psych.
Lot of test questions come from the student guide, those assignments help a TON. He mumblesis hard to understand sometimes so sit near the front. He goes over test questions the class period before the test and really does everything to make sure you know what to study. He uses a point system so you can tell pretty early on what your grade will be
He's awesome! Would take again, 1010 times.
Great professor, really funny! Seems cuddly
This class should be an easy A. The hardest part by far are the tests, but he gives so much extra credit that you can fail every test and still get an A. The lectures can be kind of long, but Professor Palfai is absolutely adorable in a kind of grandfatherly way.
People hear terrible things about this course but its really not that hard. Provided fill out the outlines in the student manual before each test you'll do fine. There is a lot of reading for this class though cause he asks way more specific things on his tests than he goes over in class. Should've gotten a C but with his grading scale I got an A-
This class is not hard to pass. The most difficult part would be the tests, so you need the textbook. However, extra credits saves you a great deal.
The class was very interesting but his lectures got pretty confusing and felt rushed. And his tests were absolutely impossible. There is no final, which is bittersweet because you need to do well on the 3 tests given during the semester. But there was a TON of extra credit available which boosted my grade from a deserving C+/B- to an A-.
Great professor. Really enthusiastic about subject. Well respected and willing to help if you really need it. Makes class very easy and clear to understand.
Psych with Palfai is great. He is so passionate about the subject so lectures aren't too terrible, but tests are GOD AWFUL. I had to study for hours just to get a B. If you like psych definitely take it because you'll do well but if you're just interested in checking out a psych class or fulfilling a requirement, find another professor.
He literally speaks gibberish in class. I cannot understand anything but that is me not understanding science. It is very science base. He gives "exam questions" day before exam but its not helpful. You have to buy the $250 textbook. Dropped this class and I am definitely less stressed.
He can be pretty funny during lectures. His tests are really hard and even if you study a lot, it can be tough to do super well on the tests. The questions are worded super weirdly.
Seriously if you do not have some foundation in neurobiology and/or dont want a hard class.. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! This class was so hard, I was interested by the title of the course, but I was rudely awakened. The ONLY reason I stayed in the course was because I paid for a $250 book out of pocket. Palfai talks fast and skims over hard concepts
You need to study for his exams using both the textbook and lecture notes because they can be hard. In class, he is funny but you can't use a laptop and he has a habit of picking people out to answer questions. He also gives a lot of extra credit which is helpful
Dr. Palfai is a hilarious, adorable old man. Attend lecture because class is pretty notes heavy, but he still does takes information from the book to put on the exam. Also, EXTRA CREDIT, DO IT! He offers 48 extra credit points. That never happens so take advantage of it. I got B's and B- on most tests and got an A because of it.
Love Palfai, but not going to lie, this class was hard. You need to buy the textbook & actually study because you wont do well on the test. The day before the exam, he will tell you the questions that will be on the test which is somewhat helpful so you can narrow down what to study. Do the extra credit. Got B- and C's on exam & ended up with an A-
There are so many options for extra credit. The exams are relatively hard but with the extra credit you could get an A or a B.
His classes are very interesting. He shows many videos and uses lots of examples to help students understand. Study the textbook and do his extra credits then you will find the exams easier! His classes are hard but it is worth it!!
Palfai is really passionate about this course, He knows and can explain everything well. The tests are the most important part of this course and they can be tricky.
Textbook is crazy expensive which is why I didn't buy it. No final, no midterm, and no HW. Your grade is pretty much based off of exams. EC are practice test questions and readings, offered through the student manual. I hated this class and wish I dropped it. Seriously, just avoid this class!
Class is literally only 4 tests. He is hard to understand and very old! I would not recommend this class to anyone.
This was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. To get an A, you need 180 points and there are 256 points available throughout the course. There are 4 exams and you can get 60 points on each exam (10 of the questions are extra credit on each exam). There are also easy 4 extra credit assignments each worth 4 points (16 points total).
Excessively strict grader.
