Great prof! Tien makes class fun and is really interested in the topic and makes you interested. Young guy, funny, buff and easy to get along with. You want him as your prof.

LUV IT!! best class ever!! yes, waking up on friday at 8am is hard.. but playing sports and a guaranteed A just for showing up to every class made it worth it.. would also much much much recommend taking his class instead of marcia cooper for nutrition!!! go T!!

The guys a proffessor but if he sat down beside me, you wouldn't know. He smart helpful, shows amazing You-Tube videos and if you workout you'll probably see him around the gyms!! This was Tien's first time teaching the course; at the start it was honnestly pretty easy, but as it went on.. ouch. He asks a lot of questions that require intensive knowledge of the material; although he does make the class interesting, it's hard to study at the level of detail necessary to get an A+ (especially later on :S). Good prof though :)

He loves to talk about health and is clearly passionate about being in good health in every aspect. Attending class is pretty useless however because the tests are all straight from the textbook. HSS1101 was extremely easy.

Course was two assignments and a final exam. Personal reflective assignment was marked pretty hard by the TA Dana Riley...blarg. But the group project: easy 15% peer eval and pretty fair mark. The exam was very straightforward and there wan't too much material. Bird course. His pecs and biceps are quite distracting though LOL

Hes so funny and the course is easy but dont underestimate it and not attend class or not listen because it will backfire. Hes awesome and communicate info well..and good looks. If you are lucky, he will show you body building poses in class ;) dont miss out and take his class!

Really awesome prof! Was surprised how interesting he was able to make fairly dry material. Shows interesting youtube videos to accompany his lectures. Is very knowledgeable and good at answering questions. Midterms and exams are very fair, and he will tell you what you need to know. Really enjoyed my semester in this class!

Mostly the TA's ran the session but the lectures were performed by the professor. Humorous and delivers material well.

the one thing i really enjoyed about the class was the comedy. He had a great sense of humor which make the course a lot more easier and felt more like a relief. awesome professor with good teaching skills.

Unreal professor, always enlightening the class with jokes and stories. Relies heavily on the textbook, readings are very required in order to succeed. If you do the readings, guaranteed success in his class. Not bad to look at either.

Really nice guy who loves his job. Only problem was that the course is 99% out of the textbook, and the 1% that isn't is straight off his slides. Very possible to get an A+ in the course without attending a single lecture.

He's very helpful, kind, and fair. He makes sure we understand what he's talking about. His evaluations are easy and fair, but include several tricks to see who's really paying attention in class. The course itself is SO EASY. I recommend Prof Nguyen for any HSS course.

Started off very basic, but got more interesting and relevant. He is clear and helpful and his guest lectures are very interesting. I found him a little cocky, and he isn't very punctual, but he's got a great sense of humour and really cares for his students. The interview assignment was unique interesting. I would take another course with him.

Great class, all of his classes you kind of just have to read the text that he assigns you and know it well. The class itself isn't too necessary to go to but it is interesting and Tien Nguyen is a great guy.

Tien is a very compassionate professor, he genuinely cares that his students understand the material. He has fair and clear expectations and during lectures tries to keep you engaged even if the content is dull at times. Would take any class Tien teaches.

Professor Nguyen is absolutely amazing! Course was very easy, and with an 8:30am lecture found it very easy to teach myself the information at home. Regardless, Nguyen gives interesting and funny lectures and is all around an amazing guy.

i've had tien for 3 classes. he really cares about his students and if you introduce yourself to him he'll remember your name. while the content seems like common sense (especially 2012 & 1101) don't make the mistake of not studying hard. he takes questions directly from his slides so memorize everything on them if you can

great guy and great prof. The material is very straightforward but boring. I skipped a lot of classes but I did read his ppt notes and the textbook and still did okay. He'll answer all your questions if you can catch him during his office hours.

I liked the no text booking option, all the reading were posted by the prof on BB, the assignment wasn't that clear for me, but the exams were fair a little bit hard as I didn't study as much as I wanted but overall i recommend taking the class :)

Loved the fact that the reading material were available online no need to buy anything, somewhat easy midterm but tough final exam depend on your understanding of the whole thing, which wasn't easy, I felt the assignment instructions weren't clear enough, but plenty of time to work on.

The course material is straight forward. I love how he supplies the PDFs and there is no textbook. The midterm was fair but the final was tough but manageable if you studied. Arrive early to office hours because theres usually a line up! Sometimes when I had questions, i felt like he wasn't great at clarifying them. I just used google instead.

HE IS THE BEST If you like to learn about you general health then take this course. He is so helpful and really cares about how you're doing. Not the most interesting class ever but he makes you want to listen.

As a person who suffers from depression, I was extremely hesitant about attending his lectures because they were late in the afternoon and was told HSS 1101 is easy. After attending the first few lectures I found myself to be extremely absorbed in the lecture. Furthermore, his lecture slides are extremely clear so you don't even need to take notes

Tien is clear in what he expects from students, exam questions are taken directly from his lecture notes. There is no textbook so study off of the ppt. MC exams are fair, short answer portions aren't hard. It's a super interesting class tbqh.

He is a really nice professor, but he says the midterm is really easy when it's not. the final had many questions that had more than one correct answer! but at least it was easier than the midterm. No use of the textbook in 2111 and the assignment is good 5 marks to have. one midterm makes the grade distribution kinda unfair :(

The assignment is almost a guaranteed 5/5% and only takes max 5 hours of work. The midterm is fairly easy because it's based on 1/4 of the course. The exam has a lot more material and is much more difficult than the midterm. There is a lot of information in this course and it's hard to know what to memorize. Tien is a great guy and good professor.

He is so nice, funny, and helpful. May even give you an answer or two on the exams if you've shown up to class and he knows your face. Content was straight forward and although his lectures were a little long, he's one of my favourite profs I've had so far.

I had this prof for HSS 1101. He's a very nice person and tries to make the content interesting - it's not his fault that the subject matter is dull for the most part (it's just curriculum. His midterms are easy AS LONG AS YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK. It's an easy A+ if you just read and retain the key info since all the exams are simple multiple choice.

Really interesting material. If you pay attention you won't need to do a crazy amount of review for the exams which is nice. Just re read your slides with the examples he gives and you're golden. Easy A. easy grade booster if you try. There is no textbook, he gives pdf files with readings but i didn't read any and I was fine. They were extra info.

Tien made this class very interesting and conveyed the information in an effective and interactive manner. Assignment is an easy 100%. Although, the diffuculty on the exam was ridiculously higher than the midterm. Memorize the slides and don't bother with the pdf files.

Awesome prof. His PowerPoint slides are only some of the material covered on the midterms and exam so you really need the textbook to get a clear understanding of what he's talking about. Very entertaining, extremely kind. You don't need to go to class at all, pretty much a bird course.

Amazing Professor! One of my favourite so far at Uottawa! His lectures are really interesting! The only thing is for his midterm he says to focus on the power points slides, however I advice you to read the textbook as well

Best professor that i have had so far in first year. He is adorable. The only unfortunate thing is he left 10 chapters for us to study for the final. Although it is not cumulative, it is alot. But other than that, you do not have to go to his lectures at all. Everything on the exams are in the textbook, and like 3 questions from his slides. Lovehim

Prof. Tien overall made the material more engaging. The exams are based on content discussed in class, as well as info from the textbook. The slideshows are just basic outlines of the most important points. The exams include specific details from the readings and relying solely on the slideshows will not be helpful if you're aiming for an A.

While I found his lectures dry Tien is the most adorable and caring prof you will ever have. Funny and endearing and engaged in what he does. I didn't go to class AT ALL (literally attended 2 classes all year) and I studied the night before exams and still got 90s, I kid you not. Super easy class but dry, most likely a prereq so it is what it is

Tien is so funny!!! His class is super easy, but his slides are really useless. For his exams just read the book. He will say not to but you have to because he takes exact situations from the text. His exams are easy. Just read and you'll do great. I would for sure take a class with him again.

This is the 3rd class I've had with Tien and he is absolutely one of the best profs in the Faculty of Health Science. His lectures are essentially a run down/summary of what's in your textbook with you 100% need. Midterm and final is completely based off the textbook and he includes some questions on there that you may not have covered in class.

Tien's class is a wonderful class to attend. His lectures are very straight forward and he really builds off of them. However, he can get off track quite often but his stories are great! This course is fairly simple and the information taught was very easy to comprehend. There were no assignments just midterms and a final exam. His lectures specifically are very broad. I would recommend to read the textbook along side the lectures. Overall Tien's class was enjoyable!

Great personality and provides an excellent learning environment with lots of personal experience and stories to help with learning. As an older student find his jokes just a riot, those just coming into the university life may find them outdated and not get them.... still a great guy though. Didn't need the textbook, but I did attend all classes

Had this professor first semester of my first year and it was a breeze. The class basically tests you on your common sense or just basic common knowledge that you have been learning since elementary school. All material is available on slide show and the final exam was non-cumulative so that was a plus. You dont have to come to class to pass. EasyA

Funny guy, the material is mostly common sense (like super basic). Follow the slides and listen to the lectures and you'll pass with flying colours. Sometimes gets emotional when tells stories, but super sweet and really wants the class to do well. Very clear with his exam formats and loves to provide hints.

Professor Nguyen is easily my favorite teacher at UofO. His classes are very straight forward, no tricks involved. His teaching methods are very clear, and he really cares about the students learning rather than getting through material. He makes valuable connections to other classes, and gives personal insight to topics covered. Easy A, take him!!

Unlike communication and dets of health, I didn't use the textbook for this course and still got an A+ (but I attended every lecture). Tien is so incredibly fair and empathetic that even a 7-10 PM was enjoyable (we got out early every class). He really picked the important stuff and didn't stress us with the nitty gritty. Take nutrition with him!!!

Very straight forward and to the point! I don't enjoy lectures in general so I combined his powerpoints (headings, topics, titles) with the readings (a lot, but easy to understand and filled with examples/descriptions/definitions) midterm25%, midterm 25%, final 50% (not cumulative) don't be scared by the size of that final, he gives SO many hints

We didnt need to buy no textbook, everything was on the powerpoints slides. Easy A in that class. We need more professors like him.

Tien Nguyen has been one of my favourite profs so far. I attend all of the recorded lectures and he truly keeps you engaged with all his jokes. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed and get good marks. His lectures are also very easy to watch and are relatable. Definitely recommend; it does not get much better than Tien Nguyen.

hands down the best prof at uottawa. he is HILARIOUS and will drop at least 10 dad jokes per class. amazing online teacher as he posts his lectures as videos and does live lectures to review them. FAIR exams, but there are only two exams the entire class (40% midterm & 60% final) so if you screw up those, you're toast. "but i digress" count: 352

Dr. Nguyen made my first semester at UOttawa a memorable and bearable experience. He is so beyond kind. There were only two assessments: one worth 40% and the other worth 60%. Super easy class. I only read the textbook and did extremely well on both the midterm and the final exam. The exam was very straightforward, hes definitely the kind of teacher that wants you to succeed.

Probably the best Prof i've ever had. Gives you CLEAR grading criteria, & how many questions there are per chapter for exams. If you want to learn but also enjoy a little bit of comedy please take him! Made me smile & laugh listening to all of his lectures, and doing the multiple choice exams. Easy content to grasp, lot of it is general knowledge.

Uncle T was my favorite prof first term! He is extremely caring and is really there for his students. 10/10 recommend watching his recorded lectures and taking notes on those because he adds stuff in there. Then just go to his live lectures to go over content and relax a little. Easy class and really amazing prof. Take him if you can! #idigress

60 Final 40 Midterm, a little scary but not the end of the world. Absolutely hilarious guy. LONG lectures because he spends half of them digressing which isn't a bad thing unless you are in a rush. I got the optional textbook (cheap on amazon LLF) and I felt it assisted me in the class and on the exams.

He was amazing! The first live lecture I was freaked out by the terms, but just watch the recorded ones & it'll help & that's all you need! Such a great guy & super easy to talk to although only one mid term & one exam, but trust it's hard to screw up! If you have him, it's a real treat :)

Prof Tien was an amazing prof who cared about the wellbeing of his students. While you can achieve a high mark through the recorded lectures and powerpoints alone, I found myself attending his live lectures for more clarification and the discussions at the end. Overall, amazing prof

Prof T is a real gem, he cares about his students health. He's always making classes more enjoyable to be in and tries to explain all the concepts really well so that there isn't any misunderstandings. Despite the 1 midterm (40%) and 1 final (60%) evaluation, he really does not try to make any tricks and tries to make it easy to end up doing well.

THE MOST AMAZING PROF OUT THERE. Extremely kind and caring and does not try and trick his students with his exams. Shares funny anecdotes and has iconic phrases that you won't forget. Class is worth going to because he really makes your day, and his exams are among the fairest I've ever taken. + the textbook is not necessary!

Nguyen is the best prof I had first year. He truly cares about his students and makes very clear what kind of material will be on exams. His lectures are very engaging and he makes an effort not to make an almost three-hour-long lecture boring. If you attend his lectures or even just watch his recorded ones there's no way you won't get an A.

Overall, best professor at Uottawa, in all aspects. Cares about students and listens to their needs and learning styles. Very funny and makes class fun.

Prof Nguyen is honestly one of the best profs I've had. Very simple and straightforward guy. As long as you go to class, or watch the pre-recorded lectures, you will do very well. Most of his exam questions are simple and staightforward, and if you study you will get an A. Content is also pretty interesting.

Professor Tien was a phenomenal professor. The grading scheme was very straightforward with a 40% midterm and 60% exam. This seems scary but they were very straightforward with no tricks. He also supplies any extra readings so the textbook is not necessary. Definitely recommend taking him!! "But I digress"

He's great what can I say! The asynchronous lectures are a bit of a pain to get through as they're long and monotone and pretty self-explanatory, but we all adore this man

Dr. Tien Nguyen was absolutely awesome! There was a midterm and an exam, both worth 50% each I believe. The content on the midterm + exam were exactly from the slides and readings, so I did not really attend the lectures as much and still did great. Highly recommend him!

Professor Nguyen is very kind and wants the best for everyone. There's only two exams but if you go to class and take notes, you'll do well. Textbook isn't necessary.

Graded by 1 midterm and 1 final. Exams were all multiple choice. Dr. Nguyen's lectures are very rambly and you only need what's on the slides and in the textbook. He also tells lots of dad jokes in the lectures as well if you're a fan of that.

This prof is a gem to our faculty. HSS2105 is a new course, but he's structured it really well. The amount of material to learn is reasonable & before exams, he makes his expectations extremely clear. The weight of everything (40% midterm, 60% final) might worry you, but don't stress it. Review your notes and attend class. Do that and easy A.

I was lucky to have him for 2 classes and didn't regret it one bit. His evaluations are very fair and simple, no tricks. If you pay attention and understand the material (which is easy to do because his explanations are very good and the lectures are not heavy or complicated at all), you can easily get an A+. I highly recommend him!

I was fortunate enough to have 3 classes with Prof. Nguyen and received an A+ in each one. His YT lectures are clear with great explanations and there are 0 tricks on the exams. Every class was split 40% midterm 60% final but it was nothing to worry about because the content itself is easy to understand. Be prepared for dad jokes and laughs :)

"Uncle T" is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is passionate about his student's success and what he teaches and cracks jokes all the time, making the lectures enjoyable. Overall a great guy and has an easy A+ to boost your GPA. If you have the chance to take him, go for it. You won't regret it. I couldn't recommend him any more.

Only one midterm worth 40% and one final worth 60%, but don't worry if these numbers are daunting, because every test he has is really fair, and he forms each question straight from the slides.

The best prof I have had so far in University. His evaluations and expectations are clear and easy to understand. 100% would take again. His humour is helpful in understanding and remembering various concepts in the course. Evaluations are fair and resemble the course slides.

I didn't study for any exam of his and got an A+. Just go to the lecture, listen, and you are good.

Simple course, simple prof. Understands that grades aren't everything and really encouraged us to think about and understand the material rather than simply memorize it. If you're looking for an easy mark you'll find it here, but that's not all you'll get with Ngyuen. He's also rlly caring and funny. Don't pass him up!

exams are straight off the slides. he literally tells you that his goal is to make sure students score extremely high grades. you don't have to go to lectures, but you'll want to go anyways because he's genuinely such a good lecturer and a very funny and caring person. his classes brought some joy into my days during a very difficult semester.

He loves talking to students and genuinely just wants to help his students. Always eager to chat outside of class and really just someone you want to learn from. Easy top 3 HSS profs.

Uncle T is a great, funny teacher. I loved going to his classes, even though they were at 8:30, because he was like a stand-up comedian. His class is also a mark booster if you are taking Determinants of Health, because the content on his exams are exactly like his slides. 10/10 would recommend.

This is my second time taking a course with uncle T! He's genuinely one of my favourite professors throughout my entire 3 years at uni so far. He ensures we never have to worry about our grades, and brings in guest lecturers who make the class even more interesting and interactive. He's the BEST!!!!!

Uncle T is 100% one of the best professor at uOttawa! I am so thankful for his course as it was very light, but also that you learn a lot in his classes stress free. Even with a class average of A+ because exams are straightforward, people still go to class and listen to the lectures because they are great. He brings guest speakers and makes jokes.

I absolutely cannot believe some people gave him anything below a 5. He's extremely funny, cares for his students, knowledgable & teaches well, makes exams extremely fair. What more could you want in a prof?!!! What a gem. Even if he taught courses that I have no interest in, I'll still take them. Best prof ever.

I was super scared for the exams, but the exams were actually super fair. All the questions were already discussed in his lectures. If you read the textbook and listen in class, there is almost no way you can not do well. On top of that, I honestly really enjoy his lectures; he's super caring. A fantastic speaker and a super dope person!

He is a great teacher very chill. The course was very easy and very much common sense. If you are looking for an easy elective this is one. He is not going to tell you not to get the textbook but I will don't get it it is not needed at all.

Uncle T is the light of my life, apple of my eye, etc, etc. He's so kind, understanding, and fun! Exams are so blessedly common sense, and he records his lectures so you don't have to be on zoom for 3 hrs! He cares about his nieces and nephews, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. I'd be surprised if you don't get an 80 AT LEAST!
