When she gives you notes, she doesn't present them in PowerPoint form or even typed, she just gives the notes verbally and expects you to write as fast as she speaks. I wouldn't take this class, but its required for my major.
She doesn't take questions till it's too late and is too random with homework. You'll easily forget it. It's hard to retain her lectures but she has no tests, just a couple quizzes and a fair exam. All the lessons are basic, however, which helps more to retain it.
She is hard but fair. If you ask her for help she is there for you. Pay attention in her class, take notes, and do your homework and you will be fine. I have been out of school for 20 years and I passed her class with a "B".
She is fair and very strict, do not be late. Only opened my book for homework. Received an A.
Not very clear with instructions for papers.Grades off her opinion that is not necessarily true. text book is only used for a few 10 minute exercises like 3 times. Papers are usually assigned homework. There are no quizzes or tests. One exam at the end of the course. helpful during office hours. Occasionally rude. Not recommended.
She lays it down what she expects from you from day one. Her class was hard but I got a lot from it. She's super nice during office hours and very helpful. One of those professors you can talk to one on one and not feel stupid.
in the beginning i started off wrong by not following the directions for the length of the paper. after i met with her she helped me out tremendously! i am very excited to be taking her again for 1102! All you have to do is see her in office hours a few times. show that you care about her class and shell care to help you get that A.
ENC1101 is by design meant to challenge you, but the instructor does an excellent job of facilitating the material. Very helpful and gives great directions.
she will tell students to write their research papers based on something challenging for them but will not accept proposal for that paper if it seems challenging for her to grade. expects students to learn most of her lessons from the class's online course. what's the point in teaching college that bases on 1-on-1 if she will teach like that?
RUDE, AND RIDICULOUS! MAKES THE CLASS WAYYYY HARDER THEN IT HAS TO BE.
Class is somewhat challenging, she is hard on grammar. Very helpful when you put forth an effort to see her on your own time. you can't fail if you ask for help every week.
Awesome prof. Best class ever. If you like graphic novels this is IT. You wont be BORED.
Nice lady but she makes the class way harder than it has to be, gives way too work online. Most of the stuff she wants you to learn is online. Why teach a face to face class if almost everything is online? The in class writing assignments are brutal too. Write about Star Wars if you want her to like you.
Clear & concise about classroom procedure, requirements, and grading policy on day 1. All her assignments and helpful hints and ppt available in PAL. EXTREMELY helpful, and makes herself available to you often. Online book is great! Follow the rules and you will do great!
i absolutely hated this class . very rude with feedback and makes things so much harder than what they should be. she makes me never want to take a college English class again she corrects people on their writing issues but when giving out assignments she has a lot of spelling errors and writing mistakes of her own .pick a different teacher not her
Horrible... This is supposed to be a 1101 class not a Masters level. She doesn't teach anything and rips papers apart like crazy! I now have to spend three times as much to take the same course over again... Don't take this teacher!
This class was pretty intense. Professor messerschmidt is an overall good teacher I took condensed class so was a bit harder. keep up with the work read her comments back and write your papers accordingly and you will do fine . sincerely a former student.
DO NOT take this class online. I always get an A or B and I ended up with an F in this class. She does not explain the assignment correct, and when you ask her all she does is tell you to refer to your notes. She gave out way too many quizzes, about 10+ a week. Worst class ever!
I am a straight A, dedicated student and found this professor to be very inconsiderate. I have never had so many problems with a professor. I would not recommend this professor at all and will never take her again for a class. I feel I was being graded unfairly and harshly. I had a terrible experience with this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!! IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TAKE ONLINE AND THE PROFESSOR IS NOT HELPFUL. THIS WAS A FAST TRACK CLASS BUT MAYBE A FULL SEMESTER VERSION WOULD BE BETTER. YOU HAVE 8-12 ASSIGNMENTS DUE EACH WEEK. THE MAIN PROJECTS THAT MAKE UP THE MAJORITY OF YOUR GRADE ARE NOT CLEAR WITH INSTRUCTIONS. VERY UPSET BECAUSE I WORKED MY BUTT OFF FOR THIS CLASS!!! KEEPS YOU IN THE DARK ABOUT YOUR GRADE ALL SEMESTER.
I really liked her class. There was a lot of reading involved, but most of what she chose to read was interesting, we even read a graphic novel. She would discuss the readings which helped if you didn't understand a poem or story. There where two papers to write and weekly response to any story or poem you chose.
Don't waste your time!! Don't even think about taking this class, you won't pass, believe me. The only thing she's good at is giving bad grades. Ask anyone who took her class and see if they passed or barely made it. Take my word. She may give you time to do essays but she has very high standards. Just don't take the class!
LORD, I barely made it in this class I passed with a C and don't know how. She's really tough on grammar, like your essay could be the best essays in the world but that does not matter, she will give you a D if your lucky a C. Classwork was pretty easy I think that's how I passed the class tbh. all the papers I wrote I got a D & F until my last a C.
She does not make an attempt to help you with anything. She also like to keep saying this is college and not high school. Make me feel bad for even inquiring because in other words despite I've been out of school for 13 years. She telling me its not her job to teach or review with me. DO yourself a favor don't take her take....... Costakli instead
I am an incredible writer, and take passion in both my poetry and short stories. I can honestly say I do not think this woman has ever given anyone a higher grade than a C. She is terrible. I spent time during her office hours to critique a paper, rewrote it for her with every little detail she wanted added, and she still gave me a 70. Don't take!
Mrs Messerschmidt is very strict and tough when it comes to grading. She has no mercy but if you show you are willing to do the work, she will help you. She has high expectations and grade your paper as if you were getting a PHD. She is a monster when grading papers but an angel if you let her know your struggles ( very sensitive).
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone, she doesn't give enough details in lessons and acts clueless when you ask for help. You pretty much have to wing it. Coming to class is mandatory or she will drop you. Participation is a must in her class or you will fail. She expects all work due on time or you will get a zero!!
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. Her assignments are not always clear, she is not helpful what so ever. I have never failed and I ended up with a D in this class. papers are graded unfairly. Never again will take a class of hers.
The weekly assignments were pretty easy, some reading and group discussion participation. The essays are the issue, she expects perfection, but she will give feedback one way one time and then the next time she will fail you for doing what she asked previously. I don't recommend. I am a straight A student, I barely passed this class.
She grades your work late and is tough on grading. Not really clear on assignments and gave me a complete 0 on a 4 page essay I wrote that was misunderstood. I think she would be a good professor, if you could take the course in person or your a self learner. My experience wasn't good and I'm hoping to pass this class with at least a 70%.
She is a great professor! this was my first class in ten years and she made it so easy to get back in the swing of things. She is a tough grader but she is very clear at how she wants things, and grades accordingly. Loved the class
Messerschmidt provides the tools needed to be a successful writer at the university level (a must for those wanting a BA). She is willing to help in anyway (office hours), provided that one is willing to work for it. Do not miss class and read the assigned short stories for discussion , it is crucial to the learning process. I would take her again.
Extremely fair and gives you the grade you earned. Willing to help at all hours, emailed her multiple times not expecting a response until the morning and less than an hour later she is responding (at 10 and 11pm). If she taught more than just ENC 1101 I would be in those classes without a second thought.
Professor Messerschmidt is completely unreasonable when it comes to grading your work. She gave me a horrible grade for a paper I completed but did not use sources from the PSC library; even though the work was completed and in proper format. This was my 2nd time taking her and do not recommend her!!! STAY AWAY!!!
If you are not an expert writer then I recommend steering clear of this professor. The weekly discussion boards are easy but the 3 projects are not. She gave me a C- on a paper that was only out of format by a few little errors. The last 2 projects are a bibliography that is strictly from the polk database and a paper off that. Hoping to get a C
Anyone who does not pass her class, has no one to blame but themselves. As a transfer student retaking this course I can honestly say professor Messerschmidt provided every essential tool I needed to be successful.
Gives great feedback but only likes thing done her specific way. She provides information on the formats needed for papers and projects. Annotated bibliography was difficult because you are only allowed to use PSC resources. Class work was very simple and discussion posts were very straight forward.
Professor Messerschmidt was wonderful! I took her class online and really enjoyed it. We had 2-3 short articles to read per week with 3 questions to answer, then we had to respond to one other students discussion post. There were only two papers with one annotated bibliography. Follow her rubrics and the syllabus and you will do fine!
She requires you to work, but will help you along the way. Extremely accessible. Quite a bit of homework, but nothing difficult. You do need to show up if you want to pass her class. I took her class when I first started college years ago, and wanted to take it again in my second effort. I am definitely a better writer than when I started.
There's work due every friday at NOON, but don't expect to start any work earlier than the week it's due. There's readings due every week, along with a 300 word discussion post about said reading. She's also a very tough grader on the papers. Also don't expect any extra credit.
I really enjoyed this class! She is very clear on expectations and is extremely reasonable on grading. 3 major projects, an autobiographical essay, annotated bibliography and research paper. Every week you have assigned reading in 2 books and have to post discussions and reply to someone else's post. Essay and grammar finals. Highly recommend!
Pr. Messerschmidt's online class was reasonably straightforward, however, to begin with, the content seemed completely disorganized. Once you figure it out, it's fine. A weekly discussion, and a peer response (after reading a couple of small articles), and three big projects. Don't expect to know how you're doing ... Very slow at grading!
Messerschmidt is a really great professor who really knows what she is talking about. There are 3 projects (Autobiographical, Annotated Bibliography, & Research paper) where she tells you step by step how to write each one and gives the grading rubric. There is peer-review before each project is due and weekly reading which you complete in groups.
Overall she was a good teacher. She made her lectures enjoyable. Her course was three projects that made up 60% of your grade. In my opinion it was an easy class if you put effort into the projects.
Dont take shes terrible. Grades super slow like lottery a month behind. Grades off of her political views. Very disrespectful.
She's basic.
She's good! 3 majour projects and from my experience she's not too tough of a grader. She cares about her students and is easygoing, it's a pretty easy class overall!
I took her in the summer, super easy class
Professor Messerschmidt was a great ENC1101 teacher. There were 3 major projects, but she's there to help you through them all. She gives great feedback and lots of materials to help you with the work. I'd definitely take her again!
Messerschmidt is amazing! You should totally take her. In her online class, you read about 2 short stories every week and write a discussion post as well as reply to another students. You have three projects, an autobiographical essay, an annotated bibliography, and a research paper. If you follow the syllabus and do the work, it's such an easy A.
She is very straight to the point, the lectures are long but helpful. You will have a autobiographical essay, annotated bibliography, and a research paper that makes up a big portion of your grade. She allows a few days you can miss but would recommend going to the class as she does grade class work.
I took her class for a fasttrack 1 class and it was super easy. I received a C because I missed a few assignments. Overall she is a fair grader. I would definitely take her class again
All of her assignments had clear due dates and were simple. Everything is due Sunday at midnight. She answers emails in 24 hours and is fairly helpful. I only used the purple culture book, the other one was to "help" you but I never read it. The schedule is preset so there wont be any surprises. Overall her class was easy.
I took her online for Summer B. Such a great professor! Typically answered emails within a few hours. Very clear grading material. She was not a tough grader at all! She will read papers prior to the due date and let you know what needs improvement. I really enjoyed this class, and I would take her again!
Grades too harshly. She gave me a 70 for minor grammar and punctuation errors and + 5 points for "turning it in on time". That one paper is dragging my grade down with little hope for an A.
All the homework is reading political articles out of a book and writing 300 words about them. It's just busy work and barely for counts in the grading system. Essays are heavily weighted and she grades them very harshly. Everything has to be absolutely perfect, and even then you aren't guaranteed anything higher than a B. Worst professor I've had.
I had a B and then ended with a D, all because she claims I "plagiarized" EVEN THOUGH I gave credit to my sources and had links to the sources. I then emailed her but she continued to argue the point that I was wrong even given ample evidence otherwise. I thought she was a wonderful teacher until this situation now Ill be having to redo this summer
First off, she is VERY slow at grading. Good feedback though. The course contains three projects. She grades them very strictly so keep that in mind as well. If you fail one it will hurt your grade tremendously. I got out of the class with a 69%. Even though based off your rubric grade, she'll grade you off for things she never even mentioned...
Professor Messerschmidt was amazing. I see a lot of negative feedback but I don't agree. She is very clear on her grading policy and is VERY quick to answer your emails and respond to any questions you may have. She is truly amazing and has provided exceptional response time which is very rare to find.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT LET HER BE YOUR INSTRUCTOR. She is one of the most condescending people I have ever had the "pleasure" of meeting. She has 0 sympathy for ANYTHING and will fail you if u overlook ANY tiny details. There are MUCH better instructors to pick than this woman. The positive reviews were probly made by her. She is NOT a nice person
I get how some are a bit peeved about this professor, but honestly, she was one of the best professors I've had! She has a clear rubric for the essays (three in total), you have a weekly grammar assignment (which are painfully easy), and a weekly discussion on readings. She does go into detail on things I did wrong on my essays as well! She's great
This was my first online class ever, but this teacher is amazing any question I had I emailed her no issues. She will offer to proof read your papers before you submit and give you advice on what needs to be changed, if I could pick her again I would!
Professor Messerschmidt is an awesome professor she should not have any negative reviews. Super easy class just follow her syllabus. Three major papers and weekly discussions based on chapters she assigned. She was quick to respond to emails and yes, she would proofread your paper if you wished and give you feedback on what needed to be corrected.
Professor Messerschmidt is a great professor; she has clear outlines for all of her assignments. In terms of grading, she lays out all of her expectations beforehand, so if these expectations are met the A is easily attainable.
Professor Tiffany Messerschmidt is a no nonsense teacher. Her course is well organized, which is something I greatly appreciate. Professor Tiffany Messerschmidt provides excellent feedback on assignments and is willing to go the extra mile to assist her students. I can honestly say Im a better writer after taking her course.
She was such a nice professor. She really cared about my success in her class. She was very open and easy to talk to. She was very available if you had any questions in regards to a paper. She gave examples of papers that she expected from you, which was very helpful. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Worst class ever, if you fail one project, you will most likely fail the class. This professor gave me a zero after I BEGGED for help. I have to retake the class now after failing with a 68. Way to harsh of a grader, grades you on information that isnt on the rubric. I suggest finding any other teacher than this teacher.
This Professor Grades papers ridiculously hard. She also grades politically, similar to the book youre required to purchase, lots of specific political ideology and situations you must write and respond too. There is no leeway for resubmission what so ever and I wish I knew not to take this Professor, nor should you. Great Waste of time and money.
An awesome teacher! Took her for the 6wk summer class and she was very helpful. Answered back every email I sent her. Very easy class, just need to do what she asks, and you'll get a good grade for doing it. Will definitely take again if I had to. 100% recommend!!
Lots and lots of work. Showing up to class is pointless because all she does is talk and no on hand work because of Covid. She is pretty understanding but just lots and lots of work for no reason.
The work is not hard. Weekly discussions unless there is a paper assigned. 1 autobiography paper (3-4 pages of writing) and the research paper (5 or more pages of writing). The bad reviews are from people that don’t turn in assignments on time. Complete all assignments on time, avoid plagiarism on the research paper, and you will get an A.
I loved professor Messerschmidt. I took her fast-track course. It was my first time taking a college class and was very understanding and wanted to help me. She only responses to emails on certain days. Finished with an 89.49 but the round up mark was 89.5 to get an A. i emailed her and She rounded my grade up and said since i worked hard she would
i took her spring of '22 & fall '20 and loved her. She ha awesome readings & great assignments. As someone who loves English class, Messerschmidt is a great prof. She gave great feedback and as long as you took it and improved you could guarantee a good grade. Take her, she's great
She is a tough grader when it comes to essays/papers. Allowed to use limited sources for your papers & she gives you parameters for your writing. Discussion questions are very detailed. She expects thorough discussion posts & a peer review which is common. She is accessible outside of class & is helpful. Be prepared to work.
Professor Messerschmidt was amazing, she was there when needed and could clear the confusion. She gives off great feedback on the projects and gives you 5 extra points for submitting your projects on time. Three major projects are very doable if you start them with time. The discussion posts were also very interesting and hep you grow as a writer.
Lots of discussions which do not count towards much of grade the projects count for almost 90% of your grade. Very slow on grading. Be prepared to do everything without any guidance.
PROCRASTINATORS beware. Her "helpfulness" is feedback and youtube videos. More of a "figure it out yourself" class. She's also a very slow grader. She gives out weekly discussions post 50% and a reply is 25%. There's three projects worth a big part of your grade 100% each. Just do the work and turn it in on time. READ EVERY DETAIL IN THE ASSIGNMENTS
Took this class during the summer semester. She is a great teacher. She helps with your grammar and writing However, it is important to prioritize your time. If you procrastinate the workload can be overwhelming. She also gives you extra credit for projects you turned in on time!!! One thing I wish she had done better is grade assignments faster.
Ms.Messerschmidt was great. Very cool person and helps clear up confusion if there is any. As long as you don't procrastinate and you do your work (like you're supposed to do) you'll be fine. She gives extra credit. Take it online, there is no need to attend lectures for this class, they felt like a waste of time. Regardless, great teacher!
Teacher doesn't provide feedback until over a month (almost 2) after assignment is due.
Messerschmidt was interesting to say the least. She grades tough and isn't the clearest about criteria on essays(extra credit for turning in on time)especially MLA format. If you keep up with the readings you'll be fine. Regular assignments are done through a different browser so I occasionally missed some. Overall not my favorite but not terrible.
She takes FOREVER to post grades. Over a month and you have no idea where you stand grade wise in the class so you don't know if you should drop the course or not with time. Do NOT recommend at all.
Would not recommend. Does not put grades in until almost the end of the course, leaving you wondering about your progress. Good luck on ever getting a response from her. 5 total essays in the whole course and weekly discussions with replies. Please take someone else if you can.
Last week of the semester and still missing grades from 1 month ago. You have no idea where you stand grade wise. Unprofessional! Should not take longer than 1 week to get grades posted.
STAY AWAY from this professor. Unfair grading. Takes over a month to post grades. Unclear expectations. DO NOT recommend at all. Find another professor.
RUN AWAY! 60% of grade is on 3 essays. Grades on political views. Takes over a month to grade. You think you're fine in the course. Then grade drops to failing two weeks after WD deadline on assignments that were submitted weeks before the drop date. Almost like she does it on purpose. Accuses of AI without speaking with student first.
Bias according to political views. Readings in course are very political. Takes forever to grade. Accuses of AI w/out meeting with student to see if it's a false positive. Probably because she has no time to grade everything. Majority of grade is on 3 essays. You fail one and you're dust. Everything is good, until after the WD deadline date.
Worst professor ever. Takes over a month to grade. Weekly discussions plus reply probably take up all of her time. Very few grades in before deadline to drop course. Good luck passing an essay if you don't share the same political view as her. 3 essays make up 60% of grade. Grades on things not in rubric. DO NOT recommend at all. Save yourself!
