very good teacher. he gives different ways of understanding a math problem if one is struggling.
hes so funny, very good teacher, makes everything easy, ima take him for more classes, def recommend.
prof mkrtchyan is a cool guy. he is funny and a good teacher. he also meets with us over weekends to do problems and prepare for exams.
Professor Mkrtchyan was extremely interesting and very funny at times. I've had a hard time staying awake in other peoples classes but not his. He is very helpful and clear about everything that he's teaching. Makes the class fun and has a good sense of humor. I really enjoyedhis class and learned a lot. I'll def take his class again. =]
Decent class...wished he explored topics at a greater depth though
I used to hate math, but his class made it so easy to understand that I really like it now. He is very helpful and fun, and the pacing of his class is just what I needed. I like him so much I am taking 125 with him next fall. I highly recommend him.
awesome awesome teacher! super helpful man! i had failed math 112 before but he help me pass it the 2nd time taking it, i passed it with a B! Take him!
I took trigonometry with him over the summer. It was an alright class. As a professor he sucks. He was all over the place with the topics. Since I had a background with trig the class was easy for me but for my friends it was hard. If you are retaking trig and you can't get any other professor, then take it with him. you should be fine.
awesome class. i really enjoyed how he always made time to accommodate our needs if we needed more help on a topic in trig. his test were based on the homework, so if you do the homework an A is not that hard. overall great experience. awesome teacher. he does have an accent, but its understandable
This would normaly be an easy class, math for teachers, even though this prof explains everything sometimes he gets "excited" & goes off on a "mathmatical tangent" if ya don't slow him down w/ q's. Overall nice prof, just sometimes makes it harder than it needs to be. Difficult cause class meets 1 day/wk not enough time to ask q's on hw, etc.
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS U'LL EVER HAVE. first thing he says everyday when he walks in is "good morning! questions...questions...?" hes funny without even trying. never in bad mood. teaches like no other professor i've ever had. do the homework because tests are easier and u are granteed an b. TAKE HIM
He's too funny, that is probably why I'm going to receive a B in such an easy course as Pre-Calc. Very helpful and intelligent teacher.
Math for Teachers: this class would normally be easy however somehow this prof makes it hard. The exams are exponetially tougher than anything he went over in class nor in the hw. Made an easy math class complicated by utilizing the "Singapore method". Yikes, what a disappointment. ugg.... :-(
The best of the best. He is funny and interesting. Has a cute accent. Very helpful, he will allocate the time for you, makes students participate in class by creating interest. I thought I wouldn't make through the Statistics class, but he was so clear and helpful, that I actually enjoyed it and passed with a good grade.
I love the teacher, but I do not like his tests. His pre-tests are far easier than the actual tests. It gives you a false sense of hope. This is an easy subject that he managed to make difficult. I do not recommend if you're not a math major. I am struggling as a math major. Calculus is easier than this class.
Very good helpful and intelligent teacher with very good attitude. Explain well and go over homework.
This professor is awesome. He is funny and makes you want to do as best as you can in his class. Dont be like me, i got cocky so i stopped showing up, was difficult to catch up again.
He does not believe in extra credit but he genuinely wants you to do well in his class. He will ALWAYS answer your homework or exam questions as long as you ask him. Tests are a giant part of your grade, but if you study & work hard, you will do well on his tests & get a good grade!
The tests are nothing like the homework or the problems he explains in class.gives you a lot of homework, does not give any extract credit and he is pretty harsh in the grading.
This class is very hard and this teacher it is not helpful, he challenge students in tests, and he thinks that is very funny that every semester he just pass 10 to 15 students from 40 or more. Prepare to lose a lot of time, money and to get frustrated if you take this class with this professor. He does not have any interest in helping his students.
238 is tough in itself. This is my second time taking it and I feel he is better at explaining it than the other professor. He'll help you if you ask for help and spends a lot of time going over the homework if you had problems. His tests however, are something else! His tests are not correlated with his study guide. It could go either way for you.
Tests are nothing like what he goes over in class. Homework are also not the same as tests. Take him if you're good at math.
He jokes around saying his job as a professor is to make everything difficult for students, and he backs it up. He really doesn't care if his students pass. More HW than any other class. Most time I ever dedicated to a class just to see the tests be different than the HW. All grading is on the 4 tests given. Bad test takers have no chance.
His teaching style is very clear and helpful. What helped most was the online homework that we had to do. The tests are quite different from the homework but they are still the same concept so you can still figure it out if you think hard enough. The quizzes were also very easy. Overall it is a tough course and work must be put in. No EC : (
Go to class, do your homework, study and the class is easy.
This professor is the ONLY professor that will teach you a subject and make you love it at the same time. he is extremely helpful and always takes questions no matter what. he encourages participation and believe me, you will WANT to participate. Tests are same concept as hw, yes alot of hw but thats how you learn math! Practice!
Very funny and helpful professor.
Very good teacher Excellent !!
If you want to do good in his class just do the homework and thoroughly understand it because his tests are just like the homework on webassign. He was nice enough to give us a study guide for some of the tests as well. There were no quizzes so you have to make sure you do the homework and do well on the tests.
best math teacher I have ever had. very clear and straightforward.
this guy is one of the best prof in math. he teaches great he is not rude but funny at times he will extended hw if needed in order to pass the class you need to go to class do HW i didnt even use my book .. do the hw understand the concept pass class
His exams are mostly from homework and somehow easy, but he is the most disorganized person I've seen in all my life. He does not post a class schedule and he keeps changing the quizzes and tests days. He also writes the quizzes in class, and they usually have errors, plus he skips lots of applications. If you wanna be prepared for univ, avoid him.
THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER! So helpful and is always available by email to help you solve problems. He gives practice exams which are pretty much exactly like the tests so you can prepare and he is pretty flexible with HW due dates. He lectures in the most simple way so everyone can understand and even comes 1hr early on exam days to answer q's.
Weekly online assignments and quizzes. 4 exams. Everything is done on Statcrunch. Program is very similar to Microsoft Excel. Easy class as long as you do all the assignments and study for exams. He provides guides for using Statcrunch. DOESNT RESPOND TO EMAILS. That's my only complaint. Overall easy A if you need a stats class. Also very useful!
Very easy. Let us use an computer program to calculate thing for us, for if you are not that good in math, i recommend you taking this class. there is homework everyday but it is manageable. Lets us use some notes during test.
I took Calculus with other teachers and I didn't understand it very well. When I got to the class I was prepared knowing it was a difficult class but the way he teaches made everything seem extremely simple. The lowest test grade I got was a B and that was on my first test after that I got A's on my tests. Overall recommended if you are struggling.
I took him for Math 115 and decided to take him again. Understanding the MathLab tool is key; 2nd time is a charm. My only complaint about this professor is he DOES NOT respond to emails most of the time. However, he will extend assignments to make sure you complete them. When we did the in class exams he provides an hour prior to review
Very friendly and jokes a lot. He posts Sample Tests to help us and answers a lot of homework questions in class. The professor is also very motivational and encourages students to ask questions and start discussions.
Very anxious professor! He teaches multiple courses on different campuses so he is constantly conflicting himself. Really humble to his students however. His exams are pulled from practice exams he gives out. Book is require with the access code. I don't see anyone getting anything below a B-.
The website used has great notes that help understand the chapter and statcrunch is easy to use. He lets us use formulas and the statcrunch guide during tests in class. He extends deadlines sometimes. You're able to take test and hw multiple times for a good grade. However, it'd be nice to receive a confirmation email after turning in work.
If your looking for A, take him. I took him for the Spring18 online, all I gotta say is hella Easy!!! Im glad to get an A, Im really bad at math especially someone at the DSPS, take him. If you have accomdattions let him know, he is willing for you succeed. Love him, take him!
Amazing professor. I definitely suggest to take him if you want to have deep knowledge in Math. He has a perfect sense of humor and tries to use jokes to keep students focused on lecture and not bored. He explains material in easy way to make sure that every student gets it.
It isn't that the class is easy, but that he makes math easy to understand. Statcrunch is helpful and easy to use. There is a lot of homework, quizzes, a couple labs and projects. I was worried about taking a math class, but this class was fantastic. It was organized and it was easy to understand what the assignments were and when they were due.
Overall, he is a pretty decent professor. Very active with his students, especially if you need help so don't be afraid to ask him questions. He extends homework and quizzes, and cares for his students. The class is really tough so get ready to do lots of studying. Most likely, you'll be doing a lot of work on StatCrunch. I recommend a study buddy.
He's really nice and he does try to help you, but holy hell. This class takes 90% of my school schedule. There is SO much work to do like SOOO much. If you're not a math or bio major, don't take this class. If you do take this class, hire a tutor and study every week. Thats the only way you'll understand even 50% of the material.
This professor gives a lot of homework and projects. He only teaches through power point and goes very fast. Gives two projects but does not really explain them well. He always gives the hardest problems for homework and exams and quizzes. I would not recommend especially since this class is very time consuming.
His lectures are very clear. He works with you but you cannot rely on his niceness to pass you. You need to take advantage of the extra tutoring and do the projects! it will show him you are trying.
I took online Calculus 3 with him. Very helpful professor. He provides formulas for the tests. Study the practice tests and homework. Exam problems are taken from practice and homework.
He's really good at explaining the concepts and is willing to answer questions. He does go pretty fast, but is willing to slow down and review the material as long as someone asks. He does offer occasional review sessions if we are ahead of schedule, which was super helpful.
Took online hybrid winter class with him for Math 227. As long as you do the homework and do the practice tests, and put in the effort there is nothing stopping you from getting an A. I am horrible with math and still got a A.
Amazing math professor. He's the chillest math profs I've met. Online class but he has great material and presentations uploaded. Some profs make stats harder than it needs to be but this dude is amazing. I go to LAVC but I chose to come here to to take him because he's so good. Communication is hit or miss, as he teaches a lot of classes.
I am taking Calculus 3 with him. The best professor I ever had. The class is online but he has in-class reviews. I recommend to attend the reviews. Exam problems are taken from homework and practice tests.
I took online statistics with him. you are allowed to use a software that comes with the ebook and he provides steps of using software and formulas during exams. He posts solutions online and problems are taken from sample exams. If you just learn those steps, you'll pass the class for sure.
I felt no support while taking his course. I dropped the class. The materials he gives are not everything. He didnt do lecture to explain the work or teach. All I got was handouts videos that made no sense and a tutor 2 weeks in. No help whats so ever.
I took online Statistics last spring. He gives saple exams and test questions are from the sample exams and homework. Just do the sample exams and you will pass the class.
Exam problems are from homework and practice tests. Just do those and you'll pass the class.
This was an online class. You need to do most of the learning yourself. Exam questions are taken from homework.
As with any online math class, it's really difficult to basically have to teach yourself all the material. He graded tests fairly, but it was really difficult to communicate with him. I had to email him multiple times to even be able to go to his office hours, and he would promise to have something graded by a certain time and was always late.
Worst Professor ever! He does not care about his students passing! He gives out way too much homework you literally have no time for anything else. Home work, quizzes and exams were due everything Thursday, which I thought was ridiculous because some of us work. Exams are proctored. He also does not reply to emails and does not offer extra credit.
I took his online clas last semester. All assignments are due in one week. He also gave extensions and opened all old homework for thanksgiving week, so we can improve our grades. Exam questions are taken from sample exam and homework. After failing Stats at a different school, I finally passed it.
Work on homework. Read solutions and notes posted on Canvas and you'll pass the class.
Math227 is tricky and confusing. If you're not fan of reading definitely you won't pass this class. Lots of homeworks and quizzes but multiple attempts. His lectures were too much to read and make sure to have notes. Exams are proctored and have 1 project. Prof Tigran wanted his students to pass his class. It isn't easy to pass, but efforts do.
Pros: extremely good/fast with email, fair grader, fair tests taken from the practice exams and homework. Cons: takes forever to grade, office hours were tough to arrange
This was a summer short class. The professor was fast at answering emails. A few times during the exam I had technical problems and professor answered momentarily meeting through Zoom, solving the problem and adding extra time for the exam.
I thought this guy wouldn't be so bad based on his rating, wrong. He never mentioned anything about proctorio in the Syllabus until the test came around so I had to buy a web cam for my pc all late Not to mention took 4ever to grade tests and he didnt show how you missed pts and on the sylb he says tests are off hw but they weren't at all. BE WARE!
Test questions are the same as in homework and practice tests. Calculators, handouts and software are allowed to use during the test.
Was an easy class. He posts videos of of the homework solutions. Most of those problems are also on the exam. Exam questions are picked from homework.
You HAVE TO read ALOT. There's also alot of HW and Quizzes after every chapter that are due in a week. There's 3 exams, 1 final, and 2 written projects. Uses Proctorio. The questions on the exams are from HW/Quizzes. Does Exam reviews. If you read through all the lectures, use the notes he provides, and time manage, you should be fine.
Study the sample exam and you'll be fine.
I have to get the class over with somehow! But anyways its like going to YouTube college and youll learn everything from there. Lots of homework assignments in which Ive spend hours on. Literally just took his class for spring semester cause of the homework load. Good luck!
This was my second time taking calculus 3 and professor Tigran made it easy to understand it.
A lot of homework. I would shed a tear every time I saw the amount of homework assigned. At least he would accept late work.
I took this course during the Summer of '22. Because it is a 5 week 100% independent course, everything is fast-paced with multiple assignments assigned per week. We did not have zoom meetings, so self-discipline is so important! Attend/watch review sessions and ask questions! I highly recommend creating study groups with your peers!
I took this class as a summer course. There's lots of homework but the actual curriculum is manageable with practice. Professor Mkrtchyan was understanding with extensions. The homework is based on content in presentations and exams are based on practice exam/homework. As long as you study and practice a lot, you should perform well in the class.
Care about your academic standing? Then do not take this course! He does not teach the subject, but you teach yourself through a website that you HAVE TO purchase for $70!!!Exams are super heavy,he will not extend them by a second, even if every single student asked. No extra credit and no rounding up grades, even if it's just 4%. Terrible professor.
You are allowed to use calculators and online software. The professor posts video solutions of problems and the same problems are in the exams. There are no surprises, if you learn how to solve homework problems, you will pass the class easily.
He's the most unorganized professor I've taken. He makes numerous mistakes when inputting grades, which is problematic when it comes to exams. He provides a grade based on the exam score and work shown but doesn't let you see what you've done wrong, so you don't know if he might've made errors. Your final grade is unknown until AFTER the semester!
I purchased the textbook for $105 and did TONS of homework. But the homework and quizzes were "easy" in the sense that you have multiple tries and examples to help you out. However, when it comes to HIM grading exams, he is very unorganized. I learned calc well, but his messy grading system did not reflect my hard work at all :(
The class was supposed to be hard because it was a fast 5-week class. However, the professor made the class easier by posting sample exams. The test problems were similar to the sample exams and if you work on the sample exams, you should be ok with the test.
This was an online class, so you have to study on your own a lot. If you solve homework and exam review problems, you should be fine.
I loved this class. Some of the lecturers were tough to sit through, but I had an overall positive experience taking his class. He taught what you needed to know and homework solidified what he lectured about. Tests were fair, similar to what he lectured and the homework he assigned. He did not assign too much homework either.
He was very patient but be ready to do homework for hours. He was alright. Just try your best and you will pass
This professor is good, I took him for a fast paced 5 week course so it was a lot of work. He is HW heavy but if something arises you can ask for an extension. I learned a lot from the way he teaches, he has zoom review sessions before the test and will reply to any questions you have throughout Canvas too. I recommend him and will take him again!
Reached out for help and accommodation. But he said math 240 is a very hard class instead of helping me out. I'm never handheld in math! The videos were out of order nothing made sense, disorganized. Retook in the summer w someone else and passed with an A. It was not as hard as he said. In fact, I love trigonometry.
I took online math 261. If you are late on homework, just email him, he will extend your homework. Exam problems are similar to homework, so if you work on homework problems, you should be able do good on exams.
I took Calc 1 with him. Great professor, class was very easy.
Not bad. Before each exam, you have to complete an assignment with 50-60 questions in only a few days. No feedback on tests. Changed the time for the final exam with only a day or two notice. I would not take again because I lost my enjoyment in math with this professor, please take the class in person if you get the chance.
Just work on homework. Test problems are similar to homework and practice tests.
Calculus in general is a tough class. He gives 2 to 3 HW assignments a week and a quiz per section of the 8 chapters. 5 exams 1 of which is cumulative. He uses a program called Cengage where you complete your HW, quizzes and Exams. As long as you do the work and stay on top of it you will pass the class.
Don't take a asynchronous course with him unless you are familiar with Calc 3. You grade is mainly based on your exams that arent based on the questions your told to study. So you better hope you understand the weird questions on the exam. Moreover, he takes forever to grade and respond to you. And you also won't get any feed back on the exams.
This Professor does NOT care. Does NOT respond to your emails and takes forever to grade exams. He doesn't tell you where you got wrong. Makes you buy WebAssign for $120+ and doing homework just becomes SLOW and PAIN. Go read Webassign reviews on Google, you'll see why. At least exams are easy but bad wording and lots of typos. I 100% self-studied.
Took Calc 3 with professor Mkrtchyan. Honestly a difficult class even though it was online because you must self-study and do the homework assignments to learn. Test questions are similar to homework. The professor posts lectures online which are actually helpful. Final exam was tough, but doable. Lots of homework prepares for 3 exams + 1 final.
Professor Mkrtchyan is funny and a humble mathematician. He's understanding of students and takes time to explain prereq concepts from Algebra. He's a kind grader on tests and provides some formulas. The tests are easier than the homework, do the hw and you'll be fine. Easily one of my favorite professors, super straight forward class.
He's just cruel. Even if this class depended on your whole life, he wouldn't show an ounce of humanity. I aspire to be everything this guy is not. What more can I say...
This class was an easy A. Tests weren't proctored and were based on lecture & hw examples. It was really easy as long as you put in enough effort to do everything on time and really study/practice for the tests. He explains very well and he is always available for extra help (office hours). Take him if you are okay with asynchronous classes.
Very reliable and amazing lectures. Tests and quizzes are easier than the HW he gives so as long as you do the HW and the practice exams you will pass his tests with a B at least
Provided lectures for almost every section (missing about 4 towards the end, might need to read). 3 exams + final, methods used are similar to those in lectures, although the wording in a few questions did cause some confusing. Office hours M-Th, 7-8am. As long as your calculus foundation is strong, you'll be fine. Doesn't give the best feedback.
He doesn't communicate well with students. It took 10+ students begging him to look over the exams (which he claimed were doable) and narrow the amount of questions down because there simply wasn't enough time to complete all the questions in the given time. He gives no feedback on anything, and if anything, left me more confused.
This professor is unfair, and very strict on how he grades. No extensions on assignments and also very strange how he grades tests. He requires you to show your work on every exam but will take off points if your work isn't ordered correctly or isn't in the way he wants the work to be done. Would not recommend this professor at all.
Took during summer but it was not that bad. Also an async class so it is 100% self learn and study. No feedback on exams unless you schedule a zoom call with him which isn't ideal. Free online tutoring PLEASE take advantage of this. I could have done better but was busy. Im glad to get Calc 1 out of the way. Would take him again in a full semester.
Took his async. class in Summer 2024 LOTS of work but doable. Some exams not enough time is given although it is quite similar to homework/study guides. The real issue with this Prof. is that he gives NO feedback on exams! He just takes off points from exams and you are left wondering where you went wrong. That's just being lazy, left students mad.
I took online calculus class in summer. The course is very fast but the exam questions were taken from the homework and we were allowed to use our notes. Just work on homework and you'll pass it.
Don't take him.....He doesn't grade fairly and a tough grader
unfair grader and doesn't tell you what you got wrong in the exams, not a single note.
He didn't grade my second exam after the semester was over.
although he does not proctor, he grades very harshly. I've had 2 tests graded 100 each but after he reviewed my work gave me a 60 and 65. All because I skipped some steps and need to explain my work more. Do not expect him to adjust your grade or drop any tests, whatever you end up in the end is that.
Tough grader and gives little feedback. Lots of work but it is necessary. Class is challenging and has lots of content but is doable. Exams are similar to practice exams. Pretty doable course as long as you stay on track, but the work adds up fast. Teacher is easily accessible online through email. Lectures are prerecorded.
I like his classes, especially because I am looking for fully online classes for flexibility, and he offers online classes. Thank you so much, professor. I am pleased that I got grade A for this class. Although I want to take his Calculus 3 class for spring 2025, they are already closed. So, I have to choose another professor's class.
Tigran's Calculus 1 class is challenging but doable. While exams can be tight, the homework prepares you well. unstuck ai was a game-changer for study prep. Overall, a solid professor who wants students to succeed.
Professor is laid back but if you are taking this course during the winter/summer with no prior calc 1 knowledge like I did, expect to be doing calc all day. It is fast paced with a lot of work load but the exams end up being pretty easy and similar to the hw.
The teacher has no prepared lectures but I did choose to take an asych class. The biggest issue was feedback, I never knew what I got wrong on tests. Honestly though the class wasn't so bad, tests were based on homework and the workload was manageable
I took MATH261 with Professor Mkrtchyan in Fall 2024. He is a tough grader, and assigns a large quantity of homework for his asynchronous class, however if you are disciplined about self-studying the work is not too difficult. The exams are similar to the homework. My one hang-up with this class was the purchase of the textbook with Webassign.
Professor gave an option to attend the lectures at school or through Zoom but attendance is not part of the grade. You can also watch lecture videos later. He goes slow and at the beginning of the class you can ask any homework question. Exams are easier than homework.
No feedback on exams. Test questions often differ from homework/review. Long homework (15+ Qs). Lectures are slow (mediocre at best) and sometimes missing. Expected fast solutions on tests after lengthy lecture examples. Even in async class, all tests will now require PROCTORED Zoom. Very disorganized and unhelpful.
Lectures can get confusing; he gets lost in the middle of a problem. Not too bad if you review the material on your own afterwards.
Took online course, each week 2-3 assignments were posted and due. The reviews for each test do not always line up with the actual test (especially for final), as each test is randomized from homework assignments. If you get lucky, you can get easy exams but there are no partial points given. Didn't watch any lectures and just read the textbook.
This was an online asynchronous class. You watch posted videos, work on the homework and quizzes online and take online exams. Exams are graded with partial credits and you can meet after the exams to discuss it with the professor. There are also Zoom reviews but you don't have to attend them.
