Took him for Calc II. He is very detailed in his explanations, and gives different ways of learning. A technical, as well as intuitive, teaching style. I had personal, non-class-related, problems with him which tainted my opinion of him, but I cannot deny his excellence as an instructor. Difficult.

Excellent! The color coded notes on the board couldnt be neater if they were typed.You cant help but pass if you just attend class and take notes. He will explain basic subtraction if needed. Go to his office Trust Me he notices and it makes a HugE difference on your final grade even if you never master it.

This guy is one of the best math teachers. He is brilliant and knows his stuff. The only thing you got to make sure is that you know what he wants you to know. His tests are hard but the way he teaches the course in the class you should be half way retard to fail his tests. He will even help you with simple additions and multiplication.

He goes over the notes in class at a pace that is easy to keep up with and if for some reason u still have trouble, he will take time after class with u. His english is heavily accented, but if u r paying attention, I don't see why this is a problem. Ask questions if u r unsure; he loves that! First A I've made in math since elemen. Great teacher!

Dr. Tilak is probably the BEST professor I have ever had. He goes over material at a slow pace and makes sure everyone can understand it. He is very smart and knows his stuff. His tests are pretty easy b/c he lets you print out his old tests to study with and they are pretty much the same. I sucked in math before him. I really recommend him!

Dr. Tilak is the best math teacher I've ever had. He not only knows Math, but he also knows how to explain it in a way that students can follow and learn. He color-codes most of his notes, so if you do the same in your notebook (colored pencils recommended!), you will have a much easier time studying. Print old tests and use them to study!

Don't be hesitant because he is foreign. Even though his English is rough, he is very intelligent and a really great teacher. He goes over the info slowly, rather than just breezing through it. He even gives extra credit towards the end of the semester. He is so funny and clumsy and wears the same clothes every day! I would recommend!

Dr. Tilak De Alwis is one of the best trig. teachers I have ever had! His accent is not hard to understand and he is funny and loves what he does. He makes sure every one is understanding and he even lets you print out all of his old tests dating back from 2000 to last semester's class. So, there is no excuse not to do fairly decent on the tests. H

This is the teacher to take if you aren't that good in math because he go's slow and explains everything in detail. Very funny and willing to help. Gives old tests and notes to help. Gives plenty of homework but it is needed to succeed in the class.

He offers plenty of notes and old tests, but what he goes over in class is not the same as what is on his tests. You should only take him if you are a math major because he is thourough, but if you just need to pass, take someone else!

His writing on the board is the most clear and useful of any math teacher I've ever taken. You can tell he's excited to teach and will often get jumpy while teaching. Unfortunately he teaches a very hard class and gives extremely difficult tests. Maybe if I had him for another subject I would've liked him better...

Mr. Tilak is very nice and will go over something with you until you understand. He has an accent, but he's very easy to understand. The class is pretty easy until the very end and you can BS your way through homework and get a good grade on it anyway. I would recommend him, but only if you go to class.

If you don't do your homework or miss class prepare to be embarrassed in front of the entire class. He did it to me, although I finished with a 98%. I can understand him hounding the people that skip all the time, but it's none of his business when I rarely miss a class. If you must take 162, take him. It's extremely easy.

I had Dr. Tilak for Trig, Calc 1, and Calc 2. He was easily the best Math teacher I ever had, and SLU is fortunate to have him. His notes, examples, and explanations are very clear & organized (even color-coded, when I had him). He has an outstanding personality, a sweet disposition, patience, & a strong desire to help you learn Math. LOVE HIM!

Dr. Tilak is a fun guy. He really wants you to know the material and for the most part he will help you with the homework. I actually called him on the phone one day because i couldent figure out this one problem and as if by some miracle he helped me through it step by step. I still dont know if he had the book with him or he is just THAT good. A+

I'm not the best math student in the world, but he really break things down for every student to understand. The test are always 9 questions, gives particle credit, and all of his old test form 2001 is online. Study the current ones and you'll do fine. He's just reuses them and rearrange numbers. Study! A very nice concerned teacher but I will never take him again for anything. He grades too hard which keeps your score low. Tests are extremely hard, does not prepare you well for the exams.

Dr. Tilak is so nice and helpful. I hated Trig before i went in this class but surprisingly had a very good experience. He breaks everything down so that you don't even have to look at the text book unless it is for in-class work. He gives you everything you will need to pass and answers any questions you have even on exams. AWESOME teacher!!

Despite his accent I understand him perfectly. His class isn't an easy A, but you will learn what you need for next level. He stands out more than any teacher I have ever had. If you forget any materials he will give you his own. His passion for teaching inspires me to learn. 350 characters isn't enough to talk about how great of a teacher he is.

The last 2 problems on his tests are impossible and require an algebraic manipulation beyond what you could possibly see with 15 minutes left. I've spent weeks on the problems and couldn't figure it out. The last 2 are about the same difficulty as the prob of the month in the math dep. I can't believe he expects you to see a solution in 15 minutes

Last 2 questions are as tough as Navy SEAL training. Explains everything well but god bless me from his exam.

Dr. Tilak is awesome! He has an accent but it isn't hard to understand him at all. His lessons are set up in a way to help you take the best notes possible. Provides visuals and is extremely thorough. Go to class, and you'll be fine. If you're still struggling, he is great at office hours, too. Too bad he can't teach all of my classes.

I took this class during the summer, and Dr. Tilak was an awesome professor. Sure the class was hard, because he challenges his students, but he provided material for the class, and was willing to help whenever help was needed. However his tests were extremely hard but he was a pretty lenient grader. Overall good class, great professor.

This class isn't an easy A and the tests are tough, but if you go to class and just pay attention, it isn't bad. He's super helpful and wants every student to get an A. He gives TONS of partial credit on tests. Just stay on top of all homework assignments and that's an easy 100100.

Tilak is a fair professor. He shows more attention to students on the front row or those of us who come to every single class. His exams are easy to study for being that his old exams are posted on his website. He wants everyone to pass. Just come to class, participate and complete the hw. He also puts students on blast. if late or missing class

Dr. Tilak is one of the few math teachers who have been able to teach me math. I usually suck, but I passed trig with a B! He explains things well and is so enthusiastic about the course. He's always willing to help. He's a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it after the first couple days. I'd recommend him for sure!

He tells you when the test are in the syllabus on the first day of class. All test from previous semesters are posted online so it makes it easier to study. You absolutely cannot skip class and do well. He's a create teacher, but his test are EXTREMELY hard. There's only 8-9 questions and he always puts one on there with info he hasn't taught yet. With that being said, it's impossible to make an A. He's a great teacher though and really cares about you understanding the material.

Heavy accent but easy to get used to tho. He also is very adamant on taking notes similar to how he writes it on the board; "Maintain the style!" "Follow advice tightly!" Test are 9 questions (his old/previous tests are accessible to you), & quizzes are all take home! Homework is graded (not for correctness). Overall, he's great at explaining!

Dr. Tilak is one of the most passionate professors Ive ever encountered. He made me love something I would otherwise not care about. He is cery nice, patient, and informative. If you put in the effort he will reciprocate. His tests feel very fair and he gives a lot of partial credit. He tries to keep the class fun and keep students on track.

He makes it very hard to make an A in this class due to the fact that he always puts 1-2 questions on every exam that is 10x harder than the questions he goes over in class. Test are 7-9 questions and he gives homework after every lecture and 2 take home quizzes. Class is easy in all. Take him if you don't mind making a B or lower.

Mr. Tilak is honestly one of the best math teachers I've had. He truly cares about you understanding the material. With that being said, he is a tough tester. Tests are the hardest part of the class and if you don't practice a bit, you WILL FAIL them. Make sure to practice enough to have the speed to finish them. Take if you want a challenge!

If you LOVE math, you need to take Dr. Tilak! I am a math major and he has taught me so much. I feel as if his class is like a puzzle. He gives you the understanding of two simple problems and expects you to tie them together. The challenge is definitely there! That is what makes it interesting. There are 4 tests.
