This is the hardest class you will EVER take in your entire life...and you WILL cry over this class...but he is extremely fun and is a great guy...be prepared to enter hell...

Dr. Ballard inspires us to do our best in every aspect of our lives. He is by far the most influential professor I've ever had.

Hands down, the BEST teacher I've had in my LIFE...yes, it IS the hardest class on campus, but he does his best to make things absolutely clear to all of us, and is wonderful to talk to! He is absolutely inspriational! But, PS: STUDY your butt off!!! :)

Dr. Ballard is awesome! He has definetly been my favorite teacher. Really funny and interesting lectures. This class is really difficult but very rewarding as well. If you have to take this course dont be too afraid just ready to study hard!

VERY hard class, have to dedicate a LOT of time to it. Especially if you don't have a strong background in anatomy. But he's always offering to help those who want to help themselves. He gives you everything you need and tests in every style.

Great teacher!! class is no joke but you will get a lot out of it. Have to dedicate a lot of time but it pays off. Dont stress too much there is grade replacement.

Honestly, the HARDEST class I've ever taken at UNCW. It's 7 days a week; no joke. You must study every single day and work your butt off! Grade replacement, so no sweat; Final is not as hard as you think... Give it your best (7 days a week) and everything will be fine! Good luck everyone!

His class is very hard and you have to study more for this class than all your other classes combined, he is an excellent professor though.

Definitely the hardest class of my life, and you have to study more than you ever have before, in all your classes combined. Dr. Ballard is a great teacher though, and you will learn so much from him. He is a funny guy too, and makes the class interesting. GOOD LUCK with this class:)

Be prepared to study more than you have ever studied in your life!!! This class in 7 days a week from August until December....not even a break for Thanksgiving!! Dr.B is a very good professor and truly cares about his students. He wants you to do well!!

I loved this class and Dr. Ballard! It was hard as there is so much info to take in during such a small amount of time. DO NOT miss a class! Do the reading and use every resource and you should do fine. The tests are hard though as he liks to push to think broadly...memorizing isn't enough.

I was scared going into this class. definitely the hardest class I've taken. He is really willing to help you though. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY IN ADVANCE and you should be okay.

He is honestly the best professor I've ever had! He makes class interesting and has a great sense of humor. His tests are tricky but as long as you go to class and review his study guides you will be fine. I definitely recommend him!

Dr. Ballard told me I'd fail his Bio 241 class because I never had 240. Needless to say my hard work paid off I got a B and now teach A&P Labs for a community college!

If you want to learn, he is the man to give you the information for Anatomy and Physiology. Nice guy inside and outside the classroom.

He is a very good teacher. He makes it very interesting and is ALWAYS ready to help outside of class. There is no room for procrastination when it comes to studying, but the best thing is you can replace test grade witht he final.

Best professor I've ever had, but also the hardest and fairest. Lectures are really interesting if you enjoy learning anatomy. Don't need to read the text, just UNDERSTAND the material. Be ready for difficult tests, but as long as you KNOW what you are talking about, then you will do good.

AMAZING professor, always there to help no matter what. Funny, interesting and down to earth. Not going to lie, its the most intense class i have ever taken but its also my favorite. And i also like that he posts grades ASAP after tests and the exam

Excellent professor. Clear presentations, notes are very helpful. He makes the material very interesting, and posts grades right after the exams. Fairly hard class, but if you go and listen to lectures it's pretty easy.

Dr.Ballard's class is informative, fun and of course, hard! If you need help or just have extra ques. just go see him. Don't take this class if you want an easy A. Take this class if you want to remember the material that you study for. I will be extremely prepared for Nursing School because of the effort I am putting into these classes.

The Best Teacher I've ever had! He is very smart and cares a lot about his students. If you pass him in the hall he will acknowledge you by name (yes, he learns everyones' names and knows the grade you have) and initiate small talk. The material is hard but his teaching style is so good that I made A's in his class and B's in easy intro classes!

Dr. Ballard is by far the best teacher you will ever have. Incredibly knowledgable and makes learning this material so much fun. Really, really tough, but he gives you all of the study materials you could possibly need. USE THEM! Cares so much about his students and is very fair. Don't take anyone else!

I loved him so much I'm taking BIO 241 again!! HAHA...no seriously he's a good teacher, it's the class that is soooo ridiculously hard! Study study study...that's where I messed up...you really HAVE to study at least an hour everyday, so be ready to dedicate to this class!

Dis class was not hard..give me a break..a sat down the night before test and went over the like three times and remembered..most it makes sense anyway and you can figure it out without learning it..funny guy study is required..go to class bc he has a good way of explaining..i smoke buds everyday and before each test and i got B in lec/A in lab

Dr. Ballard is a good professor, the material isn't very difficult, but its very involved. Probably tough to take this class and have a part time job committment. Anatomy is more time consuming than anything else.

TOUGHEST class ever, be willing to seriously work. most AMAZING professor ever nonetheless. his tests will confuse the heck out of you until you 'figure them out' but he will help in any way he can. start studying from the beginning and utilize the endless resources he gives you!!!

One of the hardest classes i have ever taken, you MUST put almost all your time into it, but Dr.B makes it very interesting, Dr. Potts is good to but Dr.B is the best that UNCW has to offer. This class is no joke, prepare to study like never before!

This class is extremly hard. It requires a lot of study time. It was the reason for my lack of social life for the year. However Dr. B is the best teacher i have ever taken. He is amazing!! I recommed taking this class. You will learn and actually retain the information after this class.

Great class... In the beginning I dreaded going to it, but by the end I was amazed of all the body is capable of and may change what I want to do with my life. It's not so much that the class is difficult. It's just REALLY time consuming. You put the time in and you will get a good grade.

This was an incredibly hard class but Ballard is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes everything make since and he knows everything about the human anatomy. The test are ridiculous. But if you study it will pay off. He also does a mean curve which helps out a lot.

the only reason i didnt get up and leave the first day of class is because i slightly pissed myself from being so intimidated. it ended up being a cool class and i learned big words like corpus spongiosum and pudendum.

Teaches with an actual love of the subject. He is hard, demanding and interesting. You will not leave that class without thanking him for sharing his knowledge!

After hearing all the rumors about this crazy hard teacher, I was scared to death to take Anatomy but I can truly say I have learned more in this class then in any I have taken. Dr. Ballard has a passion for teaching and it makes you want to learn. I would recommend this calss to anyone who is willing to work hard.

Wonderful teacher, one of the best at UNCW. Cares about teaching and cares about students. Makes classes interesting although attendance is not required. Records each lecture and posts it online which is really nice if you miss a class. It wasn't easy but I learned more in this class than any other class at UNCW. You can make an A if you work 4 it

Knows SOO much about anatomy, sometimes it gets overwhelming, but it is truly a great class. It has been the hardest class I have ever taken because the tests are almost impossible. At the same time I learned the most and was my favorite class at UNCW. If you take it my best advice would be, GO TO CLASS!!!!

Absolutely love him as a teacher. He is great and always so enthusiastic but his tests are difficult. The material is hard sometimes...but if you follow his study recommendations you should do well. Has a cumulative final with the option to replace previous test grades. Awesome guy... one of my favorite teachers here!

This class is extremely hard but you cover so much information. I have learned so much from him. The tests are difficult but there is grade replacement with the final. He records his lectures if you miss a class. he provides powerpoints and typed lecture notes. He also gives you readings for everything we cover. The lab are easy. Awesome class!

Definitely one of the best teachers at UNCW! Just like everyone says, the class is a little overwhelming but he is great at explaining the info and I have learned so much. Tests are hard but this is prob still my favorite class. He makes class intersting and attendance isnt mandatory although it helps to go. I'm taking him again!

Absolutely the best prof. I have ever had. Super smart (like insanely smart) and very fair. You have to work hard in this class or you will certainly drown.... His sectioned tests prepare you well for the final. He has a great personality and wants his students to excel. Go to class!

Dr. B is a wonderful teacher. He really knows his stuff and makes it interesting to learn about. You really do have to study ALOT but he has his lectures recorded, study guides, power points, and so much other stuff available online. Attend class regularly and study hard and you'll be fine :)

OMG! He is an awesome teacher, enthusiastic, BRILLIANT, and really teaches you the material. The tests are hard though so make sure to study, grade replacement on the final though, and go to class!!

Dont even think on taking other classes, while taking his class! He will make Calculus seem like childs play and Physics look like a joke. He is the most CHALLENGING professor at UNCW! He is not kidding either. No compassion whatsoever. Forget about prayer and magical curves--- they dont work for his class!

His class is hard, he is not kidding when he says you have to study everyday! But he is awesome and extremely helpful and overall just a great teacher and brilliant! :) Definitely take him! Especially if you want to learn and do well on MCATS and whatnot!

He is a great teacher but his tests are impossible. You learn so much, and can know the material backwards and forwards and it is still almost impossible to get an A on a test. The lab is easy though and helps a lot and he has grade replacement and an end of the year curve, which both greatly improve your grade.

Hardest class to attend at UNCW. However if you study the material he gives you everyday and you are serious about the class you will be alright. I got a B but only through the grade replacement on the final which is very helpful. Study study study if you take this class.

However this class is not impossible and if you put in the time and effort you can get an A. It really prepared me for nursing school where the classes are even harder. AAMMAAZZIINNGGG!! i have NEVER had such an great professor! k his tests are very hard, but his final can replace any test. the labs were fun! Ballard knows his stuff! and he makes it relatable. his lectures are online if you have to miss his class, but i hated to. He is very helpful in class as well as out.

Awesome professor, but you really do have to study every single day and go to lecture. Though, all his lectures are put online as well. If you aren't doing well in the class its because you aren't putting forth the effort.

Granted this class was hard, Ballard is a very helpful teacher. He does cause a lot of extra stress in your life, but there's grade replacement and I went from a C to an A on the final so there is hope. If all else, study for each exam (but don't stress) and then study non stop for the final and it will all pay off. SI can be helpful too.

THE HARDEST YET BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! Don't try to take the easy way out...TAKE HIM! you will be glad you did..if youre willing to put in the work. Over half the class fails but I got an A because I studied like crazy. So if youre willing to put in the time, it is possible. DONT be lazy!

I LOVED this class! Dr. Ballard is such an interesting and knowledgeable professor. His tests are hard and you have one every other week with two chapters on each test. You have to print out the powerpoint slides or you will never get all of the informaion. If you study hard and go to class you will do well. Favorite class so far!!!

If you are a good student, you study, but dont study ridiculous amounts then dont take this class. I am a B+ average student. This class was extremely difficult because the test questions are so detailed and tricky. Take a different teacher if you need a good grade. This is a class that you will have to work for and keep up with if you are trying to get an A. Dr. Ballard provides you with thorough amount of studying material, including video lectures and auditory recordings of class. Those that complain on here shouldn't be bio majors. Unlike other UNCW classes you actually have to work for A.

Dr. B is an excellent professor who really wants you to learn. LOTS of material and you should study everyday, but its worth it if you want to be in the medical field. Big curve in the end (depending on your class). Go to class everyday to stay on top! An A is definitely not out of the question if youre a good student.

I took A&P 2 with Dr. B during summer session 2, a seemingly impossible mission. There are so many people who will tell you not to take Dr. Ballard, but he is the best teacher I've ever had. Although this was the hardest class I've taken so far, the grade replacement on the final had me walking away with a B+. I recommend him 100 percent

Dr. Ballard is a unique professor and a great guy. Few professors stick to their principles and force you to learn. If you study hard in his class like he says, you might get an A. If you do not study for at least 10+ hours per test out of class heavy hitting the study guides, you wont pass. Be warned!

I took this course a couple years ago but I would like to share my opinion too. Dr. Ballard IS the best professor at UNCW. The fact that he is the hardest professor, yet we all still love him is a testament to how much he cares about his students. I got A's in both anatomies and graduate from nursing school in December! Dr. Ballard is an outstanding anatomy prof. If you are pre-health definitely take his class because you will really learn the material. The man has been teaching this class for 30 years so he knows how to make a hard test! class is not easy BUT he gives you every study tool imaginable and going to watch him teach is quite the show.

Dr. Ballard, by far, is the greatest professor at UNCW! His class is extremely difficult, but that's because of the material. If you want to learn, study for hours, and listen well in class, it's not impossible to receive an A. He is an absolute genius and is very personable! Probably the greatest and most difficult prof. you will have at UNCW but also the most rewarding. Anyone that shows as much passion as he does teaching becomes contagious. For A&P 1 or 2 there is no one better. Histology was an amazing class, maybe not his forte but he is such a great motivator it made me want to work hard. Thankful he is at UNCW.

Definitely no lie that he is the hardest professor Ive had thus far, but I can say that Ive never learned so much in any other class. Anatomy is awesome but Ballard really tests you to see if you have learned the material. I dedicated my life to this class both semesters. One thing I hated was how much you studied and less than half is on the exams

The best professor you might ever have. Not only is he the smartest man I have ever had the pleasure of speaking to, he is also the best teacher. That being said, this class is likely the hardest under-grad class at UNCW (I had no more than 3-4 hours of sleep nightly). Don't bother with the book. Everything you need to know is covered in lecture.

Professor is very nice, but this class takes your entire life. I studied all day every day and I hate it since I only have to take this as a requirement.I am not going to be a nurse or doctor, so it was so stressful to take this class. He is a good professor, and it is very in depth. It just isn't something I will ever use again. Stressful class.

Great Teacher! If you study, you are guaranteed a B+ . When i say study, i mean study every day. It all about reptition. Not impossible, but it does require a lot of your time. Worst thing is the 200 question final. The final is a bit easier than his other test and you can replace past exams!

Dr. Ballard is hands down the best professor at UNCW. His classes are challenging and stressful. You will leave his tests brain-dead and questioning your study habits. But you will learn so much more from him than any other professor, and his lectures are so fun. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take him. If you want to learn, he's the best.

Dr. Ballard is truly a "one of a kind" professor. He has the rare gift of making tough subject material very understandable, and seems to have a helpful anecdote for every complicated term. Class is important, but he also has video lectures that are outstanding. Lets you replace all your tests with the final. Hard class, but a great professor!!!

Dr. Ballard is one of the best professors at UNCW. He is very challenging and expects you to go above and beyond to recieve your grade. Grade replacement at the end is always great. Goes 10x above and beyond any other professor I've ever had! Puts video lectures, records and posts each lecture on blackboard every day right after class, gives tons of helpful picturesfigures online, and is basically the whole biology department!! Love this guy!!

Ballard is definitely one of the toughest professors I've ever had at UNCW but he really knows what he's talking about, and gives great examples. I actually learned in his class instead of memorizing things. If you're looking for an easy grade this isn't the class for you.

Probably one of the best professors I've ever had but was also the most amount of work I've ever put into a class. Definitely attend class, use the lecture recordings and videos he posts online. You actually have to keep up with the material everyday if you want a decent grade, but it's not impossible. Take him if you want to learn!

Very challenging but teaches everything that you will need to know to make you feel confident in your understanding of how and why the body works the way that it does. Highly suggest if you are taking the course because YOU want to take it.

Dr. Ballard tells you on the first day of class that this will be the hardest grade you've ever worked for. If you look at the negative reviews, most of them are simply because the reviewer didn't want to work hard. He gives you all of the resources needed to be successful, it's up to you to work for it. Dr. Ballard is an AMAZING teacher. He clearly knows what he's talking about, answers any and all questions, and does a great job of keeping class interesting. Dr. Ballard is insanely knowledgeable on the human body. The guy is pretty funny in class and he makes the lectures enjoyable. The midterm exams were tough, but if you study for them you'll be okay. He looks at his students not as students, but as future healthcare professionals, and he's genuinely passionate about the material and helping you understand it. I transferred out of ballards class after the first week because a spot opened up in a class that better fit my schedule but I regret it because I could tell in the first week that he was an amazing lecturer and professor. Def need the book for 240 and 241 (I have them both if you wanna buy it from me for cheaper 919.441.9629)

I LOVE DR. B!!! He's a very tough grader, but it is only to make sure that you know what you are doing and actually UNDERSTAND the material, not just regurgitate info on an exam. HE'S AMAZING. If you want any future in the healthcare field, take him.

Fill out the study guide completely! He's a great professor, but really hard tests. Good notes won't get you good grades, depth of understanding of the material will (something I found out till the very end). Expect to study every day.

He was a great professor but definitely a challenging class. You must go to every lecture and take complete and clear notes if you want to do well. However, he offers many grade replacement opportunities and curves the whole class (rather than individual exams) if needed. He also allows you to argue your answers if you believe you deserve credit.

I always strive for A's, and this class was a challenge. The video lectures are very well done and he tells you what you need to know but you've got to be able to put that material together in your head, it's not simple memorization. Stay motivated and you'll do fine, this is the kind of person you want to teach future healthcare professionals.

Dr. Ballard is an amazing, but hard professor! Most of the questions covered on the exam would come out-of-the-box thinking or from the module lectures and videos, in which individuals who plan to take this class should complete all of the homework assignments! It helped me when he replaced my lowest TEST score with the daily assignment score.
