Clear and efficient lecture style. Good guy but slightly intimidating at first. I took Tim for cell and general and still remember stuff he taught me. But his classes took up a lot of my study time. He tests on what he lectures but he does it thouroughly.
Very clear great knowlege of the science, good sence of humor to ease the boring subject matter

Best teacher at SLCC!
He's the best! He makes sure you understand and does his best to keep it interesting.
Tim is probably one of the best, if not THE best teacher at SLCC. His lectures are very clear, he's a funny guy, and you actually learn. But if you're looking for a class to sleep in and still pass, this isn't it. If you actually wanna learn, then this is the class for you. I'm looking forward to taking his cell class next semester.
Awesome Teacher! He s very clear in his expectation of what he requires to get a good grade. His tests aren't very easy, however if you listen to his lectures you'll have no problem.
Biology is a hard, time consuming class no matter where you take it. Tim presents it in a way that makes it easier to understand. I think he's the all time greatest teacher I've ever had. You can tell that he really cares about his students.
Probably the best Biology teacher I have had. Very prepared lectures. Puts forth the extra effort to help students. Highly Recommended!
He was very clear and helpful when presenting the lecture information.
Tim Beagley is the best teacher I will ever have. His tests were difficult, but he was very clear and very concise, and covered all material in the lecture. The textbook was RARELY used in class, but definitely necessary for review. I would recommend him to anyone.
a very well prepared teacher who wants each student to succeed. His tests are quite hard, but he gives you all the information you need to pass his class. He is very clear and can explain things in a way that makes them very understandable.
I have never passed a biology class in my life but i got a B+ in this class. Tim Beagley is the best teacher. If your not good in science the he is the teacher for you.
He is a really smart guy. I enjoyed his class but though it would be easier than it was so I didn't do very well. I'll probably actually take it again
I am very sad that Professor Beagley is on sebatacle this year. I loved his General Biology class and was hoping to get him again for Cell Bio (I got stuck with Jane Rudolph, yuck). Beagley is very passionate about what he teaches. His tests aren't too difficult; nothing that won't be covered in lecture or in the text. Take his class if you can!
He is likely the best biology teacher I have ever had.
Tim Beagley is a wonderful professor. His lectures were interesting and he is able to inject humor into them. He keeps his students well informed. He made Microbiology interesting. He was readily available and always responded to emails. He was always willing to stop his lecture to provide answers to questions.
Tim Beagley is a great teacher! He explains things in a way that you can understand. I wish he could teach all of my classes.
He is awesome, i wish i could take all my classes with him
He's an incredible teacher. He lectures based off of PowerPoint notes, and tests off the same notes as well. Only use the book if you can't understand a concept. He clarifies a lot of complex ideas and overall is a fabulous professor.
Great professor. You can tell he really loves his subject, and his lectures are on point and interesting. The material is not terribly easy, but his grading is more than fair and there is plenty of opportunity to raise your grade. I would definitely take a class from him again.
class was microbiology. I took him because he had good reviews here on the site. They did not disappoint. He is a really good teacher. material was very challenging but the tests follow his notes very well. very fair. I argued my case for a test question, he said it came staight out of the book. he came to me the next day and said he gave me the pt
Excellent instructor. cell biology 2020 at slcc. he is awesome, he makes alot of funny nerd jokes that no one laughs at but otherwise is really great. The material IS really hard but he does SO MUCH to get you through it.
Tim's a great professor. His lectures are intellectually stimulating but not so over your head that you can't understand. Gives take home portion of test that help your grade. The multiple choice questions on his tests can be tricky and he admits that he uses them to test your true knowledge of concepts. One of the best professors I've had at SLCC
Great teacher! He was super nice and way helpful. He has a class webpage with everything you need for the class. Tests are hard but he tells you what you need to study and gives you assignments you can do to prep for the test. I really enjoyed this class!
Dr Beagley not easy. Take home tests don't help your grade - they are part of your grade! Test questions are kind of tricky. Pretty much memorize the slides!! Both classes there were 2 A's, 8 A- the majority B+ B and C. The class is early, no time for questions, no test review. a LOT of material covrd for ea test. record lectures & relisten
Be prepared to put in time studying to do well in this class. His multiple choice questions on the test are quite challenging and the chapters in the book are extremely long. Pay attention to the illustrations on the slides of all of the processes and you should do well. TIm such a good guy, he'll work with you if you go to class.
Tim is one of the best professors I've ever had. He knows the material so well and obviously loves it and loves to teach. His tests are tricky but go to lecture, study his slide notes, read the chapters, and learn your vocab and you can get an A. I really enjoyed this course and would recommend him to anyone.
Tim is the best!. Clarity and helpfulness were excellent. His door is always open and he tries real hard to help outside of class. The class is hard mainly because it is an upper level bio class. I took recordings of his lecture and so did a lot of other students. That helps a lot. He drops big hints a lot with what will be on tests. Take him
Learned all about Microbiology. Wonderful professor, really cares!
Even though this class was tough, Mr. Beagley made up for it by being a great teacher. You can tell he loves the subject and he made most of the topics pretty interesting. He gives you lecture notes & vocab crossword puzzles. The tests are part take home and the rest is vocab, multiple choice & short answer. No homework. Attendance=extra credit!
By far the best teacher here. Knowledgable, personable, and genuinely cares about his students. He is brilliant. HIGHLY recommend!
Take his class if you really like to learn microbiology! It was my first time taking this class and I learned so much from him. Microbiology is a hard course but I never read the book, I just recorded his lectures and try to listen to each lecture about 3 or 4 times and I did really good! Tricky multiple choice but you'll be fine. He is awesome!!!
Dr. Beagley's lectures are outstanding. They are perfectly timed and organized. Difficult concepts seem simple when he explains them. Obviously an expert in the field. Highly recommend Dr. Beagley!
Tim was awesome. No assignments except for the exams! We got to use a free online textbook and as long as you came to class and attended the lectures and read the textbook you will be good. Textbook reading is a little long but it was key to helping me pass the class. Would definitely take a class from him again!!!
Tim is simply an amazing teacher. He is fantastic at teaching biology courses. The grading system is very fair. The class has a website with materials you will use during the semester and that is very convenient. He explains topics very well.
take him for bio 1010 you will love it. there are four test in the semester, then the final. how to study for test: study the key terms, and the power point lectures. study for final: 12 of the final is on evolution, so study that part just like a normal test. then the other 12 of the final is questions from the previous tests.
Great instructor. He is very clear in what to study and his lectures are interesting. Make sure you study powerpoints and use the study page! It helps so much in understanding the material. Also make sure to go to class as attendance can be used later to help your grade. Good luck
He is a really good teacher, quick and to the point lectures he has fair grading, no homework tells you exactly what to study and works so that everyone succeeds. He is one of the writers of the Final so he tells you what questions and topics to particularly study come final time. Gives easy extra credit with eportfolio. HE IS THE BEST
Great teacher, very helpful, nice, and smart. Gives no homework. Lectures are solely power points. A quiz based on each lab. You will have to do a 15 minute presentation. Bad part: tests are unpredictable, he gives no study guide or sense of what will be on his tests. Grade is based on tests and quizzes only.
Tim is great! I enjoyed my Biology class, he taught it at a level that was easy to understand and learn. He encourages the students studying through helpful study material and teaches using the textbook. It is clear what is expected of you as a student and what is expected of the class. I highly encouage anyone to take a Biology class from him!
Lecture, lecture, lecture, lecture! You are graded on three test and a final- nothing else. Totally doable class, just lots of memorizing!
A great teacher who really knows his microbiology. He does a good job of preparing you for your career.
This was a straight forward bio class. You have 4 tests and a final. You just have to read and do online homework questions that are just graded by doing it. His lectures weren't bad, just a powerpoint and he seemed to manage some funny jokes within them. I'd take from Tim again. It was a relatively easy class and he is very willing to help!
I was failing this class but I reached out to him & I passed!! Don't take this class lightly. Your tests are your grade but if you go, take good notes, & email him questions you'll pass. Offers attendance points towards lowest test, so go! No need for a book, can pass w/out. Take home test: study that, corresponding material, vocab, & u'll pass.
He is a great teacher! I learned a lot in the class. He is a very nice guy, willing to answer any questions and help you understand. He grades clearly and fairly. I highly recommend him.
MUCH more in-depth that I expected for a 1010 course. Attend the class! He allows your attendance points to help with your lowest test score. The expectations and grading criteria are clear; and he tells you exactly what you need to study for the tests. This guy really knows his stuff, but he easily breaks it down so everyone understands.
He is the best to take this class from. He is super knowledgeable and respected by many staff at the college. His lectures are perfectly timed and he always covers all the material. His lectures are great! My biggest complaint is the difficulty of his multiple choice questions on the exams. They are extremely hard and you need to study a lot befor
Your grade is determined by 5 scores, making every single point extremely important. He made the class interesting enough, tests not too hard, but definitely not easy. You need to study very hard to get an A
I struggled in Bio but still received a good grade. Tim is one of the best biology teachers at slcc so I really recommend him. He has great lectures, lecture notes accessible, and also gives lots of extra credit opportunity.
This guy is awesome! I actually looked forward to class because he made it so interesting! He's a fair grader and wants his students to do well. Just ask if you don't understand. He responds to emails quickly and is happy to answer in-class questions. He gives you all the info you need just from the lecture slides. I didn't even buy/use the book.
You get points for four things in the class. Tests are ridiculously hard; almost impossible to score good on projects. I don't mind working for grades but there needs to be a rational approach to it. This guy has no clue about how to grade fairly. Lectures are OK usually, if dry. Won't repeat if I can help it.
Tim was a great microbiology teacher! It was a HARD class, but very very interesting. Well taught! I recommend him!
His tests are ridiculous! I really felt like he expects us to know the material as well as he does even though he's been learning and doing this for 30+ years. This was by far the hardest class I have taken and I have taken many other higher level science classes. I am usually an A student, but I not with this class.
He is a professor that likes to trick his students on his tests! Grades are dependent only on 4 tests and attendance (he takes roll everyday.) Again, his tests are incredibly hard and if you do bad on one, your grade drops tremendously. Lectures are extremely boring. Micro is hard as it is, but he does not help to make it more understandable.
In general, he is very helpful and wants you to success. But this class was the one of most difficult classes I have taken so far. There were lab quizzes, a presentation and exams.
I tend to struggle with biology but Professor Beagley was a huge help. He is very thorough and caring. Each test has a take home portion that is very helpful! He makes biology comprehensible. One of the best professors at slcc!
Loved this teacher! Very nice and understanding. You have 5 exams and a final. The final is a copy and paste of all your midterms. So as long as you study you should pass this class.
Very smart and well-organized, students absolutely know what to expect in his classes. Also seemed very understanding the few times I approached him for help. The course material is difficult, but this is biology - not an easy field of study at any school.
Microbiology is a hard class but Tim made this class fun and easy. Do not get me wrong you need to study your butt off but if you put in the time and effort your grade will reflect that. He cares about the subject he is teaching and I think thats why I like him so much. His lectures are amazing and he makes me excited to go to class. TAKE HIM!
He is amazing. Best teacher at SLCC hands down. He cares about his students and teaches the material in ways that I believe many people can understand. Grades on few things so study up but he will work with you to get the best grade possible.
Awesome teacher
Loved him and his lectures. Only grades on tests and labs so be carful but otherwise love love love him.
Phenomenal guy. I could talk to him forever. He has a particular way of wording things that sticks in your head. Study hard though. He gives you all the tools to be successful. Keywords list, attendance grade, take home exams are things to expect in the class.
Tim is one the best professors I have had. His tests are difficult but he will prepare you for them. He is very intelligent and always willing to help you understand. I Highly recommend!
Tim is willing to help you learn the material (lecture and lab), just ask him. He's a little intimidating at first but warms up after a bit. Study the vocab and the take home parts of the tests very well and you'll do great. He keeps his lectures as current as possible.
I really appreciated Professor Beagley's wealth of knowledge. He is extremely well versed in the topics he discusses. I struggled at the beginning of the semester. He creates powerpoints that are crucial in your understanding of the material.
Tim is a great professor, he is very clear about what it takes to succeed in the class and sets you up for success if you're willing to put the work in. His lectures are engaging and clear, I highly recommend recording them as he does state a lot of great info for the test. I enjoyed this class and would take a course from Tim again.
Prof Beagley is great. He's passionate about what he teaches and wants you to excel. Tests are really tricky though consisting a lot of e.g. "Choice A, B, C, two of the above, all of the above, none of the above". So you really have to study and know your stuff. Overall, would recommend.
DR. Beagley is fantanstic. He is HARD though. You need to put a lot of time into your studying and yeah, read the textbook dude. There is vocab that you need to know, and you really really need to know your stuff because his exams are tough. there isn't just options: abcd. theres a lot of : A and b, all the above, none of the above.
I wish I could take all science courses from him. This is a hard class and his tests are tricky, but if you show up to class, listen to his lectures, and put in the time to utilize the resources he gives you (power points, practice questions, textbook, etc.) he is more than willing to help you succeed. My favorite professor yet!
Tim is amazing. Attendance is not mandatory but it counts for extra credit. All material to read is from articles he finds on NIH which are amazing. He likes you to participate. His tests are kind of hard because of multiple choice questions that include A,B,C,D(all of the above),E(two of the above). Overall he is a great professor.
Tests are extremely confusing, Tim goes out of his way to make the questions as convoluted as possible. Many of his questions are relative questions ie: "would you rather..." this is biology! Biology is not a philosophical reasoning course where feelings will give you the right answer! He does not use a txt book so you only rely on poor lectures.
Tim is passionate about microbiology and obviously wants you to learn it extremely well. You grade is only the midterm exams and the final so study, study, study. Attendance is vital and he makes you sign a sheet for every class. Pure lecture on powerpoints and extra videos and material. Always has office hours. Work hard and you will be fine!
His class was the HARDEST biology class I've ever taken. This guys KNOWS his stuff inside and out. He tries to always update his lectures. Don't buy the book, he gives you powerpoints with only pictures and some definitions. His tests are HARD, and tricky. I learned so much though
Dr. Beagley is VERY knowledgable when it comes to microbiology. He packs a lot of information into his lectures so you have to write fast! He does let you record the audio if you need to so that is very helpful to go back and listen again. His syllabus is straight forward and you'll know whats expected of you day one. The textbook is online & FREE!
Tim is VERY accessible even late at night. This class is TONS of information and there is a complaint that the questions on his tests aren't very clear & some of them aren't in the lectures, they're from the videos, articles, etc. he posts on the canvas page every week. Tough grader but gives good feedback.
Super great lecturer and truly cares about teaching. He makes the class interesting and the labs are pretty fun. We had an online portion and in-class and while this made it so we had more at-home material, it was still manageable. The only thing that was hard was the material on the test. He tests on readings, labs, and the lectures. Read it all!
Only graded on tests. 4 tests total, you have a take home portion given a week before, 5 short answer questions, and 50 multiple choice questions. Tests are super hard! You have to master the information to get a good grade. He's not very helpful when you ask questions. Lectures are beyond boring. Wouldn't bump my grade up by 1% so not the nicest
I liked Tim's lectures. They felt fast-paced in person but re-watching online & being able to pause made the content doable. He's brilliant & although it's intimidating to have a grade be all test scores, the tests are honestly not very hard. Utilize him as a resource on the take-home, which is the hardest part, but open-book. Don't procrastinate.
Dr. Beagley is an amazing Professor. Its alot of information and you are graded strictly on exams which made me nervous but I recorded his lectures so I could listen them over and over. He makes himself available for help during office hours and is quick to return an email if you have questions. I would take his class again in a heartbeat.
Your grade is based on 4 tests which are very content-heavy. If you want to get an A you need to master the material. Professor Beagley himself is a good guy and really knows his stuff when it comes to Microbiology, but I often felt that he expected us to know as much as he did which made this class difficult.
Professor Beagley's class is graded on 4 exams, which I was scared of at first but it turned out fine. As long as you study hard and listen to his lectures you'll pass. He is very understanding and will work with you if you can't go to class. Very fast at responding to emails or questions. He knows his stuff very well. I would take his class again!
I personally did not enjoy this professor at all. He only grades on four tests and gives you one extra credit assignment. That's it. If you have not done well on the tests, well good luck on getting a decent grade because there really is not much he will do to help you. I would not take this class again.
Kind man, has a free online textbook that you MUST read. Absolutely attend the lectures, he explains everything you need to know extremely well and is very helpful. Super respectful and kind with questions. Wants you to succeed. Grade is entirely based on the take home test as well as the actual tests. I thought he covered it well. Final was great
I personally didn't like taking this class. I learned a lot but there is too much information and Tim moves very fast. His tests are very long and heavy and he gives you a test review that doesn't help very much. I spent hours studying but his tests have trick questions and you have no idea what to study cause there is too much info presented.
