He is a demanding Prof, so I called him "Hard" - but this is why he is so good.
Uses class time to push his own propaganda. Hypocritical. Hated the class.
Enthusiastic, approachable, and his office is the place to be. Outstanding guy!
Tough but fair. Interested in the analysis of information, not repetition.
Has a monster chip on his shoulder.
Probably the best teacher I have ever had... non-conformist and critical thinker
easily one of the most inpiring professors in our program. critical. brilliant.
Amazing, he knows what he's talking about...
Good teacher, interesting lectures, good texts chosen for class
Did not like this class at all. Always made sure to push his opinions on us
He presents the texts in such a manner as to not bore you, but get you immersed
inspiring, brilliant, hilarious. he TOTALLY rocks!!!
Interesting approach, prepared me for 2nd yr.
great teacher, he needs some better TAs
One of the best profs I've ever had
eye opening course, steps outside the mainstream, refreshing
Expands horizons, great course, cool classes.
Tim Rocks!
Tim is a gem. If you go to Western, take one of his courses. Incredible
Makes every class interesting, great personality!
he makesyou think..
Does he like anything?
Tim's awesome...he challenges important issues and runs a fun but educating clas
Awesome prof, I totally love his class!!
Possibly the most cynical man alive, but a great professor
He made me watch Star Wars and i still like him... that says a lot.
He is a great prof and made first year bearable!!
He's the best prof I've ever had!
It's almost like he WENT to 'Nam
Great man, great professor! But don't take the course if you don't like english
A bleeding-heart, left-wing liberal. Swears a lot to get a reaction. If he's even half as smart as he thinks he is...he's Einstein.

He's so pretensious. He picks favorites. He substitutes one liners for theory.
Prof. Tim's course will expand your mind--provided you actually make an effort to LEARN the theory. The ability to spell words like pretentious wouldn't hurt, either.
I liked him so much I sat in on his 025 class that i wasn't enrolled in...very fun times.
I took two courses with Tim and they changed my life. I continue to reference his teachings three years after graduation. What a fantastic prof.

wow. take this course.

I love this man. I love this class. There is no prof at Western as good as Tim.
yeah blackmore!
Tim is awesome. So helpful. Different from any other prof. Actually ENCOURAGES original thought!
Blackmore is awesome. Favorite class of my first semester at Western. So interesting and clear. Also, so cute with his little t-shirts and suspenders!
There's that "special" teacher people tell you about when you get to university - the type that changes the way you view the world. Your own, and the world around you. Tim's that teacher for me.
One of those profs that impressionable first years think is really cool, unfortunately, just because ever other word he utters is a four-letter expletive. Everything he teachers is abstract and incoherent.
Yeah...his courses may be great, but HE doesn't seem to be great unfortunately. Tell him somebody! "Pride goes before a fall."
I was very impressed by his class at first, but I was also very disappointed by his arrogance. He has betrayed students.

i took three blackmore classes. i loved the first two, but the third was tarnished by his attitude. always nice to me, but i saw him act in rude, demeaning ways towards other students. he outta practice what he preaches about treating others.
I quite agree. That happens in his office. So, many students don't go or stopped going there because of that.
He compels students to compete to get his attention. He's enjoying that.
He's puffed up.
It's too bad some people don't like to be challenged... You'll have plenty of time to ****back facts at UWO, so enjoy the chance to do "abstract" work. (Hint: Abstraction = Thought) He doesn't play favourites, he talks to the people who talk!
He's a total idiot. He teachs random one-liners not abstract thought. Avoid him at all costs.
seriously suck it up because u will never get a professor as nice or willing to help u out as tim. the best prof i've had in all my years (4) at western
Blackmore is a fantastic teacher if you like thinking abstractly. He has very strong opinions, and he's not scared of them. You might not agree with everything he says, but his lectures are so organized and entertaining you wont want to miss one.
Took every possible class that he taught. Graduated from MIT because of him. Most helpful prof at Western. He actually cares about his students. Always ready for a good debate! Killer Culture was amazing! Loved the sweatshirts and the Birks!
i saw him act in rude, demeaning ways towards other students. he outta practice what he preaches about treating others.
He's not fair at all!! You just don't know what he's doing!!
Took every class he offered and he's a hypocrite. All the comments are correct: helpful (but only for his favorites), good lecturer (but opinionated and even unprofessional if you don't go along with him). Sometimes abuses his position. Be careful!
yeah be careful. cool classes but he's uneven. has some really awful ideas about women that slipped out. inspiring but also opinionated and mean. watch out. I'm 3rd year and he's definately changed for the worse. Worth taking but he's hot and cold.
Get over yourself!Restates the obvious - over and over and over
VERY overrated. Really not as great of a prof as everyone says he is.
Tim was cool, always kind to offer tea. Sure he had some opinionated remarks about women that i didn't agree with... but i don't think that he meant to offend anyone. He's a really nice prof who answers all his student's emails showinf his concern.
Highly pretentious pseudo-intellectual. I got nothing out of his class, which has nothing to add to the MIT program. A waste of my time.
Very highly overrated. He was extremely rude to me for no reason. I enjoyed the class and found it to be pretty easy, but I don't really like him or think very highly of him. He's not such a great teacher.
Hmmmm... Ever think that his "demeaning" comments about women (that "slipped out") were a tongue-in-cheek rebuff to UWO stereotypes? And for being mean: does that mean having to defend your opinion and be an adult? Took 2 courses from him, and both were great, if you like to be challenged...
Excellent prof, very giving of his time if you put in the effort. He's repeating himself because most students are too thick to get it the first time; maybe that's you. As for inappropriate comments; grow up. He states his opinions (and can back them up if you bothered to ask). In case you haven't been paying attention, Tim's a feminist.
Love the man. His classes are challenging, helpful, interesting, and thought-provoking; you take from it as much or as little as you want to. He'll meet you halfway if you put in the effort, and he does offer tea! I don't agree with every single thing he says, but I'm not supposed to anyway. All in all, one of my favorites in the faculty.
Tim Blackmore is easily the BEST professor in the MIT faculty, and I would argue the most innovate undergraduate professor I have encountered in my academic career. Every teacher should strive to engage their students the way he does, encouraging individual thought (good or bad) instead of prescriptively lecturing on behalf of their own beliefs.
AMAZING
Uses catchy one liners rather than taking a thoughtful critical approach. Boring and rude and ****.
Funniest guy ever! Made this class really interesting.
Thoroughly enjoyed his class. Very entertaining, stimulating if you like abstract concepts. Funny, caustic. He comes across as being bitter - like a guy who's been battered by war, or maybe a tough divorce.
He made me realize mit is where I belong. Very reassuring emails are also witty and very helpful. I would marry him just to hang out and listen. Intelligence is very sexy. Everyone should take mit courses of his to become better citizens of the world.
THE GREATEST PROFESSOR THAT EVER LIVED and one who taught me things I will never forget
I love Blackmore!
Great guy. Hilarious. Fair. You'll love him.
A very nice guy but makes a point to not follow structure. While this is a novel approach and is certainly refreshing, you will get lost during lectures and find that simple definitions are hard to come by. His e-mails, while helpful and "fun," are boggling in their length and one must sift through the info to find what he's saying. Nice but vague.
Great communication with class. Very helpful and has the ability to keep students calm when things seem to be stressful. Best prof I've had in the past 4 years.
This guy is definitely different... He goes off on lots of rants and sends out some pretty wild emails. A pretty passionate prof, definitely teaches you to think differently...makes at least one reference to drugs per class, and he does seem pretty bitter. Aprroachable, understanding and seems like a pretty nice guy - just a bit off his rocker.
Great prof. Very passionate about the course and very helpful and approachable. Makes lectures very interesting and insightful. Encourages his students to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions instead of regurgitating lines out of a textbook.
The best professor in MIT. Between 025 and 242, Blackmore single-handedly got me through university. Go to his office hours for tea and you'll never want to leave!
Really pushes you to write better and think independently. Bit weird, but great guy.
Very funny and entertaining!
Very entertaining professor. He is really funny, but really abstract. Incredibly helpful and approachable, great prof for 1st year students.
Awesome prof, made me want to go to class.
An awesome, funny prof who is great with keeping in touch with students (usually via colourful emails and study sessions). Sometimes his left-leaning views seemed to influence the content, but the content itself was pretty abstract. The course felt more like a critical thinking course than a media course. Still, a great prof!
Very interesting man. Quite unique making the lectures easy to attend although they are highly unnecessary to go to since they have barely ne relation to the exams. Hes a great teacher, really helps you out. Its the TA i had that was brutal!! Very one sided, and SUCH a hard marker.Hated her with a passion. Tims sweet though.
He's really genuine and his class is very unique. Exams were a little vague but I never wanted to miss one of his lectures. He has some interesting ideas which made his class very refreshing.. Take it if you get a chance! He's my favorite prof!
He's really interesting - unconventional lectures, which can get a little too abstract and he tends to go off on tangents quite often. You need luck to have studied the right things on his exam, or else you won't do too well. Still - a great guy.
Incredible. Hugely interesting and a funny guy to boot. I'd take any class this guy taught.
He was one of the best profs I have had so far. Very interesting teaching methods, didn't fall asleep in this class! Kept it interesting..even if you're not in MIT, I would totally recommend taking this class. :) Props
Very interesting professor, loves his job and it makes it a lot easier to attend his class. If you get him, you'll enjoy it, he's a great teacher and he's pretty funny too :)
Overrated. An angry and ecclectic man. Did very well in his class (an easy A, A+) but was confused for the entire duration of it. His humour consists of snide comments, incomprehensible mutterings, and incendiary remarks. Very nice in person but has definite favourites. Apparently, students like him enough to flock at his door during office hours.
Took a first year and third year course with him. Very cool, interesting guy, but sometimes the main points of his lectures are hard to determine. You need to be able to derive interesting and original interpretations of texts to get good grades.
Angry guy, and highly overrated. Course content has only the most tenuous connection to what's described.
Definitely overrated. The things we studied were completely irrelevant to the course description. He was all over the place; his lectures had no flow whatsoever--a series of disconnected observations. He didn't say anything remotely enlightening. Lack of content masquerading as eccentricity.
Very interesting prof. Will go out of his way to help you understand (who else will meet the class at perth the week before an exam to go over material?) Obviously cares about the students. Makes weird connections at first, but it all starts to come together by week 2. Too bad he's on sabbatical this year, I scoured the calendar for his courses.
Great professor, kinda wacky, but he has a lot of great ideas and makes you think. He doesn't teach and test in the conventional way like most teachers, but he makes you think outside of the box and be creative for his assignments.
Most amazing prof EVER
Excellent prof. Very clear, very interested in his subject. Can tell he is very experienced. Will help you if you ask for it and treats you like a friend. Fair workload, mild readings, and very interesting class. The readings are interesting to read also. Two essays, no textbook.
He is my favourite prof by far. He is SO helpful if you go to his office hours and is such an interesting man. He's great.
I was hesitant in taking his seminar due to the lies people spread about him being difficult to impress, but this is certainly not the case. He is fantastic, makes you think, and you will have a few epiphanies in this seminar. He's fair, approachable, and wants to hear your voice. That's it. He represents what an art program should be.
Blackmore CARES. He cares unconditionally for his students, holding late study sesh's and sending hilarious and helpful emails. He really drives his points home with a summary at the end of every lecture and knows how to get students' attention with relevant subject matter. A truly phenomenal prof
Blackmore is one of the best MIT profs out there. His review sessions are beyond helpful and he sincerely cares about his students. Go to his office hours for help!
He is the first prof I have for the frist term of my univesity life. He explain everything very clear and interesting. Also his sense of humor catches our attentions. Very awesome teacher!!
Tim is such a helpful man. He is passionate about his teachings, and is always has open arms. He would offer pre-exam study sessions with him, and would stay as late as it took to clearly answer each and every persons questions. He encompasses all of the traits a university prof should, and I couldn't imagine 1200 being taught by someone else.
Such a great professor! You know he truly cares about his students with his friendly and helpful emails and study sessions. He came two night before the exams to my residence or a building on campus to help us understand the material so clearly! definitely must take his course!
You know he cares about his students with his hilarious and encouraging E-mails. He's one of the most approachable Proffs I've ever had and one of the clearest at lecture. i search for courses he teaches.
He is very helpful and so understanding. Good teacher, approachable, good sense of humour. He is really nice and fun. He really tries to make everything easy for his students.
He really helps every student and his lecture is fantastic. He is passionate to the course content!!!
I LOVED TIM. SERIOUSLY MY FAVOURITE
One of the best profs I've ever had. I enjoyed every lecture and learned something new from him everyday. He is inspiring, enlightening, extremely intelligent, and cares a lot about his students/is available for help whenever. One of the smartest guys/best profs out there. I was sad when his class was over.
Tim is such an incredible prof and is so adorable. You can really tell he has strong morals and cares about his students. There was a lot of scifi in this course, which was unexpected, but like everything he does he has a really good reason for it and is so into it that you can't help but love it. I could to listen to him lecture all day!
Confusing and weird
If you attend the lectures and do the readings then it'll be a breeze
I LOVED HIM!! He was such so interesting and made you want to do well in his class because he's so nice and inspiring!
Tim Blackmore is an awesome person. You have to work to get high marks in this course but Blackmore really cares about his students and wants to reward good work. He's an inspirational person and his lectures are interesting. :)
Bends over backwards to help students! A life saver
Blackmore is a really great person and cares a lot about his students. He offered lots of study tips and really wanted everyone to do well.. however, the course is still difficult. Go to the lectures AND tutorials and study hard.
love him. super funny and helpful. You won't get bored in his lectures.
made the lectures interesting. Came away with a much broader view on the subject matter. Definitely enjoyed listening to him.
My all-time favourite prof at Western. Absolutely adore Tim - so caring, kind and amazing. Always leave lecture feeling inspired and with a new worldview.
TIM!!!! He has to be my favourite prof (if not person) of all time. Tim is extremely caring and often gives extensions if you truly need them. He's a gem. Many people go to his office hours weekly just to chat because he's so kind as well as hilarious. He really brought out my voice in my writing and his classes are in depth and enlightening.
Best prof you'll ever meet
It doesn't take long to realize that Tim is extremely intelligent; he can thoroughly synthesize multi-disciplinary topics at rapid speed. What makes him an impactful professor, though, is that he is also highly empathic and immensely thoughtful. He doesn't simply teach students, he inspires them.
I've had so many amazing profs at Western but Tim by far surpasses them all. He is the kindest, most genuine prof I have ever met. Not only is he an amazing teacher, but he cares so much about his students. Need an extension? Ask! Need to chat about how stressed you are? He's there. He really encompasses exactly what a great prof is.
Was extremely caring and wanted his students to succeed. He was great in his transition to online course work for the pandemic and was probably the best teacher I had in all of my undergrad. I'm sad I only was his student near the end of my degree or else I'd take another course of his!
He is amazing, would recommend him to everyone if I could
I have genuinely never met such a kind professor as Dr. Blackmore. His class never made me feel anxious and made me think critically about the world without being just a bird because he's so nice. You had to work hard but whatever effort you put it always went appreciated. Wish I had taken more classes w him in my undergrad.
Tim is a gem who clearly cares about the education and well being of his students. The content in 4100 wasn't of particular interest to me but Tim still made the class worthwhile and engaging. Highly recommend going to him for feedback/just to chat as he is super approachable
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & TAKE HIS CLASS. He's funny, empathetic & most of all nurtures your confidence in your own voice. He would say "don't repeat the lecture back to me, I don't want to hear my takes I wanna hear yours." His unconventional assignments were fun and thought-provoking. Hes the kindest, most helpful person I've ever met, truly.
Truly one of the kindest & caring profs (or teachers) I have ever had. He is brilliant and teaches critical thinking through his own understanding of subjects, but better yet WANTS to hear your opinions. Assignments are for the most part non-academic (journal entries with personal pronouns), but teach you how to think- not how to memorize.
Honestly the best professor I've ever had, he truly cares about you and wants to hear what YOU have to say. He marks less on memorization and more on opinion, as long as you back it up. I hope I can have another course with him!
Tim was genuinely the best professor I have ever had! He was so good, so interactive with the class, he was able to connect to personal lives in such a caring way! To do well in this class go to class, it isn't mandatory but classes are so small he knows everyone! Talk to him, keep him updated on your lives, go to office hours, feedback is so good!
Such a sweet and caring prof who really values his students and giving them the best education possible. I wasn't particularly interested in the course content, but he made it engaging and always wanted to hear students' perspectives. Assignments are not too tricky (midterm, final paper, casual journal entries, participation). Highly recommend!
Tim is just the best
Fantastic professor and fantastic person. I loved having Professor Blackmore and he has to be one of my favourite professors of all time. Great lectures and material, good evaluations and super helpful and kind man. His office hours are also very helpful and welcoming. Take any of his courses if you can (even if you don't like the topics), worth it
Professor Tim is an amazing and caring instructor who makes the course engaging. Assignments are reasonable, and using resources like Unstuck study alongside the lectures really helps understand the material. Definitely take this class if you can!
Tim Blackmore is one of the greatest people you will ever meet. Any of his courses are worth taking, in fact it would be a disservice to yourself not to take one of his courses during your time at Western. A great lecturer, interesting course content, and a very supportive prof!
Tim is one of the few professors at this school that makes the experience worth it. He's what you picture when you think of approachable and understanding. Tim cares not only about the content he's delivering, but ultimately your success and enjoyment of/interest in that content as well. Can't recommend his courses enough, you won't forget it.
One of my favourite professors of all time. Genuinely cares so much about his students and what he's teaching. Great lecturer and an even better person.
The best professor I've ever had during my time at Western and I am so grateful to have been able to be in his class this semester. He genuinely cares about his students, and wants students to do their best without being overwhelmed with other classes. There is no other professor like him. Truly an amazing person and professor.
The content in Rebel Knowledge is sporadic and had no continuity. Tim is genuinely caring but lectures the full three hours about random topics like epistemology which is extremely painful. The good thing, however, is that none of the assignments require any course content. The final project is a creative artsy piece you design, which was fun.
TIM IS THE GOAT. I had no idea what this class was really about when I signed up for it, but it became the only class I never skipped. He really wants you to succeed and even handwrites comments on assignments. He wants you to be creative and speak what YOU think. Exams are very fair. Put in the work and you will do very well.
